Stopped in here after reading the good reviews and was not disappointed. Had a butter roll, chocolate donut, macadamia nut cookie and bread pudding. They were all outstanding, so good that I plan to go back tomorrow to try the custard danish and whatever else I haven't had. Owners were really nice, I asked what I should try and they recommended the chocolate donut which was probably my favorite, super moist and flavorful.

To me this is one of the few REAL bakeries left on the island. If you're like me and prefer regular old school, standard pastries this is the place to visit yet the taste is anything but regular or standard! I'm not a fan of those doughnuts with snicker toppings or rocky road glazed yippetty do-dahs where the flavor is all in the topping and the actual doughnuts being mediocre at best. When I first tried Mike's I came strictly for the butter rolls..well I was late and that was pretty much all that was left. I was a bit sad until I bit into it...(signing..AAAAHHHH) oh my goodness was it heavenly! When I was finally able to wake at a decent time and arrive early enough to more than butter rolls (the butter rolls are so popular, they literally bake hundreds of them...I could be exaggerating but I doubt it) the cases still had doughnuts...yay me! Every piece of pastry that I ordered was so delicious! From the glazed donut, hotdog and oh my lawd, their napoleans were orgasmic! Not sweet at all, prefectly sweetened, soft, flaky, just simply wonderful! If you know me I'm a huge fan of plain old, good brewed cup of coffee. I must say, I have no clue why but Mike's coffee is addictive! You order your coffee, she hands it to you and you add the simple cream and sugar but, mmm mmm, the coffee is exquisite! I'm actually addicted to the coffee. Honestly, I daydream of their coffee...yep I nees help. I highly recommend trying Mike's and yes, try their coffee. All you real coffee drinkers will thank me! Mmm..coffee, mmmm...Napoleans..mmm.

"Do not judge a book by it's cover" Mike's Bake Shop ( and it's former identity Miles Bakery) has been a west Oahu favorite for decades. Located on the mauka (mountainside) of Farrington highway just past the main Nanakuli area in a small concrete commercial building, the first impression one usually has is, "am I in the right place?" Sometimes the walls are laced with Graffiti so a good impression it does not make. Sketchy is something that comes to mind. But if you were to dismiss this place and not stop by, you would be missing out on one of the best old school bakeries in all of Hawaii. Their custard Danish is plump and filled with a lot of custard, not like some places where the filling to breading ratio is like 2%. ( eh, I came here for a Danish not a sweet roll) The butter rolls are old school style where there is a nice buttery flavor throughout each bite. Firm yet soft, I love to eat these rolls with over easy eggs- oh so good to "sop" up the egg yoke so you no waste, yeah? Rainbow cake- the King of cakes. Each layer a different flavor of chiffon goodness with a delicious cream type filling. For those occasions when Dobash or Chantilly will just not do. The cinnamon bread has that homemade old time charm that tastes great in the morning, toasted with butter with a cup of Java. Just the right amount of cinnamon balance to not overpower the soft bread base. Although all their stuff is good, my favorite treat is their brownies. Deceptively simple but just the right amount of chocolate sweetness, they cut them into little square pieces. This is the way I remember brownies growing up in Kaimuki. Each piece has a thin chocolate coating on the top that melds well with the rest of the treat. You know, cannot eat just one. Easy to find, you make a right turn right after Princess Kahanu Street (there is a traffic light at this street on Farrington Hwy). So the next time you are down Waianae way, pick up a box of treats from Mike's Bake Shop- your sweet tooth will love you forever.

I've often drove past this bakery a ton of times when I had to do some work in the Waianae area, and I've often wondered - "how is this place?". I remembered my friend telling me that he use to go to this bakery (but I think it used to be called Miles Bakery) to buy their long john's, as their long john's were huge & packed with a lot of custard. Well, today was the day that I finally expanded my horizons.........I finally decided to drop by this little bakery, just on the outskirts of the Nanakuli area. When I drove into their parking lot, it was quite empty, and I saw a lot of graffiti on the walls with iron bars across the entrance doors & windows. I'm thinking......wth??? Is this place safe? I walk in, and was greeted right away by a very nice couple..........I take a look at their heavenly pastries, and think - BINGO!!!! Wow! What a display of goodies!!!! Right away, I see my favorite item in the bakery case............the custard danish! I picked me up a few of them, as well as a few donuts, & and one flaky pastry. I made sure I picked up a few items for my co-workers so I could be - Office Hero Of The Day! :) What can I say about the pastries...........well, I must say the custard danish was OUTSTANDING!!! You can tell the pastries were hand made, and the custard was just packed on top of the danish! You could tell, as when I picked up the danish to eat it, the danish was quite heavy. The donut was good too............it had a little powdered sugar on top of it, with a chocolate drop in the middle. As for the flaky danish, it was very good too...........but I would definitely come back just for the custard danish! When I was paying for my pastries...........the couple had mentioned to me - "if I've ever tried their butter rolls?" I told them, that I've heard about it, and read about it on Yelp.........then I told them - "next time I come here, I will buy some to try." Next thing you know, the lady reaches into the bakery case & gives me a butter roll for free! You know, it's so weird...........this is the 2nd time I've patronized a local bakery where the people have given me free samples............the other time this happened to me was at the Aala Bakery (see my review). It's nice to know that there are still very nice, & thoughtful people around...........little do they know, with their kindness, they have gained a loyal customer! Next time I'm in the Nanakuli/Waianae area..........garans ball-barans I going stop by again! Oh........by the way..........the butter roll was OUTSTANDING too! Probably just as good, if not better than Kamehameha Bakery's butter roll.

Went here on 7/1/13 to pick up pastries for the crew at work, which is sort of my morning ritual. All I got to say is that this place has some of, if not the best pastries on the island. Today I got the butter rolls, which everyone highly recommends. When you eat one, you taste the warm, melted butter, and it makes you want to eat another. Very addicting. I also like the danishes, which they pack with fruit filling. The long johns are good too, packed to the brim with cream filling and oh so good when fresh and warm. But the thing that Mike's has that I can't get enough of is their pig in blanket. It's kind of like a mini croissant with a half a hot dog in it, which they bake. Very delicious and highly recommended. The lady who works behind the counter is very nice too. She lives to talk story and I can see that she enjoyes working there. She is also very generous and likes to give her customers samples. And I don't mean just a piece of something. The lady gives you the entire pastry as a sample. I tried an entire long john and a pig in blanket. She definitely has won me over as a customer. So if you fellow yelpers are ever in the neighborhood, give this place a try. And say hi to the nice lady behind the counter.

Mike's Bake Shop is the humble descendant of Miles Bakery, which is what I still call this place. I grew up in Nanakuli and when we were kids, we always wanted butter rolls, long johns & glazed donuts from Miles Bakery on the weekends. I've been to this place since it's been renamed and they have kept up the good work started with Miles. The butter rolls are still broke-da-mout 'ono! As with most bakeries in Hawai'i, you must get here early to get the good stuff. Definitely try the butter rolls... but leave some for me... i stay coming!

It's always the places in the boonies that got good grinds and it's true. I go to Nanakuli twice a week for work and a fellow employee bought baked goods called a Napoleon and gave some to me. Now with my indigestion issues I was hesitant on eating one, but once I popped one in my mouth.. delicious sensory overload. It's phyllo dough layered with butter with more phyllo, ripped open in the center to make room for the custard, and topped with a chocolate drizzle and powered sugar. Now I'm not a fan of chocolate.. (GASP) but it's so good I eat three in one sitting and regret it two hours later. If you're in the neighborhood you have to try it!

Yummy butter rolls! The custard Naples are amazing too! So flaky and sweet. I love making early morning pastry runs to mikes bakery. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. Best way to start the day. Btw they are usually closed on Tuesdays but open every day. Go early to get the best selection before everything runs out!

BUTTER ROLLS!!!! 5 stars for the butter rolls alone. The best place EVER to pick up your butter roll fix especially for Thanksgiving. There is literally a line Thanksgiving morning to pick up these delicious butter rolls and they sell out too. You can pre-order your Thanksgiving hook ups like pumpkin, custard pies and butter rolls weeks ahead before Thanksgiving. I've tried their rainbow cake at a birthday party and it was OK but I've tried better. They have your basic bakery fixings here and I usually order the Napoleons and/or Custard sandwich but nothing that stands out more than their butter rolls. It's absolutely the best. Mike's Bake Shop is located on the Leeward Coast of O'ahu in Nanakuli right after Princess Kahanu Estates. It was called Miles Bakery in the past but heard Mike & Miles is a family operated business and they're related some how. They even expanded to the 9th island of Las Vegas, Nevada. You heard right!!! 702-Sin City BABY!!! but the name in Vegas is Miles Bakery. I always experience a line when I arrive and just experienced my first overflow of parking when I went there this past Sunday morning so best you come with a partner so one can wait for parking while the other waits in line. The line did move slow because there is only 2 people working the counter in the hole in wall bakery so be prepared to wait a bit. The Leeward Coast doesn't have to many places to eat at or take out but Mike's Bakery is DEFINITELY a "Must Go To" spot to try.

If you live in the Waianae coast & you haven't eaten here, you are missing out big time! This yellow building could be passed off as an old shut down rugged where the "wrong-looking" people hang out, but little did you know they sell the best pastries you could find on this side of the island & everything is out before 12pm. You have to go there in the early to get the freshest pastries like their famous long johns (omg) & cream puff thingys (lol). The bread is so soft & when you bite into it I swear it's like angel's start to sing: the custard gushes out slowly but in chunks, the texture, the taste, the fluffiness is just perfecto. Not too sweet not too bland, you might just end up drinking the custard. The secret: you have to eat it as soon as you get it, the chocolate, custard, powdered sugar & bread is so fresh it's like they all melt as soon as they enter your mouth. To Mike's Bake Shop: you have satisfied my soul

Very nice staff. We picked up some cinnamon bread and a custard pie. ps I think the cinnamon bread is the only thing to get there that having been said get a loaf and take it home and slather it with butter so good. :)

First time to visit today. We spent about $30 for a dozen butter rolls, two pigs in a blanket, two long johns, 8 regular sugar donuts, one lemon Danish, and one coconut Naple. I have to be honest, I'm not impressed at all. The sugar donuts have a lemon bite to them. It's as if they put some lemon extract in the dough, and it makes your tongue question the flavor each time you swallow. I had a bite of the lemon Danish, not something I'll buy again. I heard they make great rainbow cakes, that will be the only reason for my interest in the future. I would rather have Kam donuts. But it was good to try something new.

I do like their pastries and butter rolls but I feel like the price paid for a half sheet cake is absolutely ridiculous!!! The banana cake was heavy, dry, tasteless and the buttercream frosting was a fricken joke it was literally sugar and butter it was gross... Don't get me wrong their service is very openly and friendly but it doesn't beat their product it totally sucked. I wasted money on that wont do it again!!! I will just be ordering donuts next time!

Our family has been coming here forever for their famous butter rolls, custard pies and pumpkin pies. So popular among the Waianae coast, you have to pre-order these for special occasions like Thanksgiving. Their Rainbow Cake is to die for!!! Not to mention all the delicious fresh pastries on the rack!

Showed up late to Mike's....and all the butter rolls were gone! I decided to sample what I could.... The mom and pop that work there were really nice to me. They saw that I was on my way to a function and really took care of me. I wasn't sure what to buy, so I got a little of everything (from what they had left). I bought long johns, sugar donuts, pigs in a blanket, coconut turnovers, apple turnovers, a custard pie, a few danish, and bread pudding. Everything was very good.....but the bread pudding was AMAZING! So soft and flavorful....it was sweet and creamy at the same time. I will be back for sure....still have to try the butter rolls! 4 stars

Butter rolls ... where have you been my entire life? The couple working inside were super friendly and were handing us stuff to try and didn't want us to share :) Purchased 12 butter rolls and various pastries. My apricot pastry was good but almost too much filling in it. When ever we go to the west side, I will make sure we leave in enough time to go to Mikes!

Awesome donuts and pastries I love this place. There is so much to say but it says it it self.

OMG! Walked into this nondescript bake shop and knew immediately that I was in the presence of greatness. The unmistakable aroma of damn good doughnut infused my pores and I felt a keen desire to eat everything in the glass case until I could eat no more. Instead, I settled for a chocolate doughnut, a butter roll (a specialty here), and a custard-filled thing they call a long john. I will return!!!!!!!!
