i'm completely shocked. i cannot believe i am not the first person to review this complete hole. i was going to review it and upload a picture as a joke. not only am i not the only person to review this pile of debris but it actually has three 5-star reviews. i'm in shock. i think these people are pulling your leg(s). i think they are trying to lure you here in order to amuse themselves. this spot looks like a broken down RV with a window where someone takes your order. the only reason we stopped here was because we were about to jump on our dolphin excursion and it was either this (which had that "local" vibe) or burger king or KFC. so we opted for this. plus there were a couple other people waiting for food so what they heck. eat where the locals eat, right? well, sorta. not that the pile of rice and egg and beef/chicken was bad. it wasn't really. it was okay. but it was just grilled chicken/beef with rice and some eggs. SUPER-healthy! not. the sign had fallen off which was hilarious and it was close to being a dirt road which led to the window so it gave you the idea that it might be an abandoned shack.

I'm giving L&L 5 stars 'cause I grew up near this L&L and used to go there ALL THE TIME as a little kid...yes, I was a chubby little kid living in Hawaii...yes, that was me. I left Waiane when I was ten and moved to Pearl City, but it always holds a special place in my heart. (remember Maili Elementary, down the street from the chicken farm...there was the one playground that was always empty because of the smell) I love L&L...my husband loves L&L, although he's never been to one in Hawaii...we usually go to the one in Fremont...next time we go back I'll have to take him there to get a little taste of home...

Making a decision of buying a plate lunch from Barbeque Kai or from L&L Drive Inn is easy. L&L Drive Inn accepts credit cards where Barbeque Kai accepts cash only. The employees are really friendly. When the workers see me they tend to ask "Are you heading to work or are you done with work?" Sometimes I answer "I'm heading to work." My wait time for my food is under 10 minutes. When I answer "I'm done with work." The wait time is still under 10 minutes. My last visit to L&L Drive Inn I had ordered the fried rice with sweet sour spareribs for my meal since I was heading to work. The spareribs was on the tough side and there was little servings of it. There was a lot of fried rice though. The sauce of the spareribs over portions of the fried rice as delicious. My previous visits I would order the hamburger steak plate with all rice, kalua pig cabbage bowl, chicken katsu plate with all rice, teriyaki chicken plate with all rice, mini curry bowl, or mini beef stew bowl. If I'm just getting off from working the graveyard shift then I would come here for breakfast and I always order the french toast with side of bacon. This L&L Drive Inn gives you the option of take out or enjoying your meal in the dine in area or the outside seating area. They also do catering for parties and bentos for field trips.

I always choose this place (vs) barbque kai! Cooked well, large drinks are large, and they are friendly... Prime rib/medium rare/cut up is bomb

Love this place. A friend who's a local recommended the chicken katsu, which was awesome, but the chicken katsu curry was even better! Good thing we're staying nearby because we're coming back this week for sure.

I've tasted better L&L's elsewhere... BBQ Chicken and Katsu was dry

You know, I've been to this particular L&L more than a few times. I remember when Masago's (the pink place) across the street was open, just to give you an idea of how old I am. Of all the L&L's I've ever been to in Hawaii, it had to be the worst one. I always order the same things-- hamburger steak, with double rice double salad or beef curry or chicken katsu, having ordered those things from this L&L, I have to say it was overall a big disappointment. Seems like they took a few (bad) pointers from Makaha Drive-In (behind Cornet's) in how they served food. I had a friend who worked there for a while, so lots of the times that I went there it was only because I'd get "free" stuff. If I order curry stew and the potatoes and meat are cold in the center, that tells me that they're sloppy. It's not like I went there during a rush hour, this is like 3:00 pm after swimming at Pokai Bay all day. The people who work there are friendly and kind but overall it's a neglected franchise out there. After hearing stories about the mac salad sitting in the fridge in huge batches for weeks at a time, I'll pass. When "B-B-Q Kai" opened across the street, that's where I went. Bigger portions, better food and awesome service. I can't find them on Yelp though... did they close, weird DBA? As a person who likes food and isn't too picky, L&L in Waianae is probably one of the lamest places to eat if you know what you're doing.

I absolutely LOVE this L&L! As a lot of us locals know, the food doesn't taste the same at every L&L. I ate a lot here while I was living in Waianae and tried just about everything on their menu. Everything was tastey, but my favorite has to be the shrimp curry - it's delicious! I tried eating that at other L&Ls, but it just wasn't the same ... sometimes the curry didn't taste right, the carrots/potatoes weren't cooked long enough and other times the shrimp were smaller. The service at this L&L is always efficient and friendly. I make it a point to stop there and order my shrimp curry whenever I'm in the area.

This was the first place my fiance and I ate at in Hawaii and really enjoyed it. True that it maybe isn't the healthiest, but hey, I'm on vacation. The service was quick and the food hearty and tasty, which is perfect when you're tired from a day of swimming, tourism, etc. The BBQ chicken had skin on it still, which where I'm from is vitually unheard of. Again not the healthiest option but gooooood. You might want to try a different L & L if you are a tourist. We didn't think much of it until we were told to "watch our backs" at a liquor store down the street. It then occurred to us that maybe it was ballsy of us to be going to all these local places as a tourist. We come from a somewhat rough area so nothing seemed that odd to us and we feel that branching away from the super touristy locations gives a more authentic experience.

First off, let me say that i'm really surprised how much food places there are in Waianae. One thing I can say is that L&L has never let me down when it comes to getting good food at a good price. This place comes through with good food, but the location leaves a bit to be desired. The thing that makes this location unique is that it's right across the street from another plate lunch place. Talk about close competition. So I ordered a chicken katsu curry rice plate. I have to admit, I thought the katsu was great and the curry was good too. The curry here was way better than the Kapolei L&L. The consistency was thicker and had a richer taste. As far as the seating goes, I really didn't see an indoor dining area although they have a lot of outdoor tables. Eating outdoors wasn't really that bad since it was quite breezy today. The service was also good with quick service and the portions were generous too. A pretty decent place to eat either just for lunch or dinner, or as a place to get food from after swimming at Pokai Bay(which is just down the street). Either way, a pretty solid place to get some good food.

Very friendly staff, I come here every Friday just to eat their beef stew. Best beef stew I've ever had, no joke! Their prices are reasonable and you have the choice of dining in or taking out. I will continue to be a loyal customer every Friday :)

The chicken Katsu was like fried breaded cardboard. It was flat and dry. The place was surrounded by flies. After we ate our disappointing meal we found a review that said the Katsu they ate had a fly fried right into it. Not surprised. Wish we read the review before we wasted our money. Go to barbecue Kai across the street if your up for a cleaner dining establishment.

After reading all the previous reviews, I felt compelled to add my two cents. This L&L is not one of the better ones in terms of its physical beauty, in fact, it needs an overhaul desperately. The food is typical "plate lunch" style food. The only thing that I ever order from there, if and when I do eat there, is their hanburger deluxes, cheap and good tasting. If I want a good cheap plate lunch, I walk/drive across the street to BBQ Kai. "Annie" has a great place, very friendly and always tries to please when I need to order large trays of food. Their best on the menu is the garlic shrimp, 1 scoop rice (i'm not big on rice these days) and I ask for garden salad instead of the mac salad. Sorry L&L, very disappointing.

I know, I know--there are L&L's all over the place--why would we eat here while we were in Hawaii? Well, we were in the middle of nowhere, and were tired of eating at Burger King and our hotel. I feel bad for giving them 2 stars because there was nothing wrong with the food per se...it just wasn't any better than the L&L's I've been to in Sac. In fact, their macaroni salad didn't taste as good. On the plus side, they do have way more things to choose from on the menu. It was cheap, quick, and tasted good for fast food.

Excellent food, with excellent service! The other yelpers need to think that there are only so many food establishments on the Leeward side of the island! This place is awesome!; a place where one can buy food in bulk for parties, or order small orders that takes cash, credit, and/or debit card! The food here is exceptional and we cannot afford to loose an excellent business on the leeward coast due to a lack of business more tourist should become aware of this precious jewel on the Leeward side of the island! Come try the bar b que mixed plate with extra rice. Dine in on the right side of the drive in for air conditioned dining! The soda pop here is also exceptional! Try the curry which is to die for! The curry at this place quickly made, hot to sizzling, and the spice exceptional! Going to a pot luck on the leeward side purchase from this leeward restaurant toward acquiring your pot luck dish! The water salty and the food taste 'mo bettah' on the leeward side after you come out of the water swimming all day!

Food is good here and i've really had no complaints! Party packs are a convenient way to have dinner ready for the fam, without having to cook!! If they could change one thing, it would be that the chicken katsu could be more meatier...it's kinda thin with the breading on it, seems like more breading than actual chicken :-(...other than that, it's all "G"... Their extra crispy fries are a family favorite, yummm! Be careful though, they close for a week or so annually for their family trip :-(

Food 3/5 Mainly because of the lack of consistency here. Like many others said this place can be a hit or a miss. Sometimes the chicken katsu is actually chicken and sometimes its battered cardboard but as a local food joint I don't think people actually care since we've grown up with this place lol. Also portions are big enough to fill you up and cheap too. Service 5/5 no complaints from the service but not much to say except they're friendly. Setting 4/5 The place doesn't look like much but there's a small area to dine inside with a/c since Waianae is so hot so that's nice. But it's near a beach (pokai bay) so you can take out your food and have a picnic at the beach a minute away.

Food burnt, very small portions, and nothing like the L&L's in town. I thought that all L&L's were consistent with their plates, but it is totally different which was very disappointing. I ordered the Healthy BBQ Chicken plate. The food came in a medium sized bento container, shredded cabbage, a thin slice of tomatoes and a few paper size slices of cucumber, and a small piece of boneless chicken with a small scoop of brown rice. The L&L on Koapaka gives a big plastic clear container with chopped bbq chicken in a HUGE bed on lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber. I highly recommend going to Barbeque Kai across the street! While you live in your mansion behind, you are a rip off.
