We live in Schofield so whenever we want some good chinese food and don't feel like driving towards Waikiki we go to Great Wall. It's not the most luxurious place on earth but the food is good. I definitely recommend it to others.

Tried the lemon chicken and it was not good at all but ate it cause I was so hungry and I didn't want to mess up our family time...anyways the location can throw you off a little bit since it's more of a hole in the wall place... We won't be going back, hawaii is full of Chinese restaurants so we will continue hunting for a good one :) Go Seahawks!!!

The teriyaki chicken had a burnt taste to it, the "fried rice" was white rice with soy sauce on it put in a pan...not really the usual fried rice. But with a bunch of salt it was ok. The lady running the place is really nice. If you go, try the orange chicken!

For the price it can't be beat. I got the steamed fish with rice all for about $10. The fish was fresh and bathed in a delicate soy, ginger onion sauce. The lunch plate is also great!

Don't know what Francesca is smoking. She must have been scared off by the exterior. Sure, it's in Wahiawa, and therefore, isn't much to look at from the outside. But go in anyway, 'cause you won't be disappointed. The lack of "atmosphere" means no hidden cost passed on to you, the customer. Just no-nonsense, good food. I recommend the hotter items. My wife likes the sweet and sour chicken. My son always does the fried rice. So, don't do as Francesca says. Do it. Go inside and enjoy!

This was my first time trying this place. I have been on the search since I got to the island to find a place like back home. It wasn't like back home but it was pretty tasty. I ordered the beef and broccoli and pork fried rice (call in) It was ready by the time I had made it from my house to there. As I entered the building it was empty (no customers) but a little lady popped her head out from around a wall and I told her I was here for my call in. I am not sure who the other people wrote a review had to deal with but the customer service I experienced was really good she was super nice wasn't rude smiled even told me to come again. I really feel like people who come from the mainland expect so much more (me included) but the thing people must realize is this is a lot different from across the big ocean...getting off subject just a bit...back to the food I got home with it it was a large portion 2 big scoops of fried rice and unlike some places they didn't skimp on the meat it was equal portions of meat and veggie. I can see myself going back there in the near future maybe next time dining in. If you need to know what is on their menu before you go in you can always google quick cuisine and it will pull up their menu they can also deliver the food to your house though I have not used them different day different review for that lol

I gotta agree with the other guy and not the girl on this one. I think this place is good although not great. I would certainly at least give this place a try. That's the reason I wrote this. I think they deserve a chance and if people only saw Francesca's comment, they would pass on this place. She must be planning on opening her own Chinese restaurant across the street or something. Just kidding. I like the lunch and dinner plates and also the Chinese peas with chicken or beef. The prices are very good too.

Good food. Closest thing to Chinese food from the mainland I've found on the whole island which is a plus considering its so hard to find. When I want Chinese food I'll always come here. I love the shrimp Lo mein And the fried rice Is good too

Closest to mainland I've had since I've been here...I will be going back frequently. Not the best ambiance but the food is GOOD! !!!

Wish I could give it zero stars. I had the lemon chicken. Chicken was greasy, flavorless, and mostly connective tissue. It was sitting in a pool of what tasted like melted down lemon cough drops. Nearly inedible. Service was slow. You couldn't pay me to eat here again. Truly among the worst places I've ever eaten.

I've ate here once. I'm always a little weary trying new little "hole in the wall" places, especially getting such mixed reviews. However, this place was recommended by a coworker of mine and I figure, what the heck. My husband and I actually drove past the restaurant. It's located off of California Ave, and there's street parking around. We actually parked a street down and walked. That being said, I was looking for the pawn shop next door, like it shows in one of the pictures. A more accurate description would be to notice the Stripper bar that's two doors down. We had plans of eating there, the restaurant seems clean. However, I got this overwhelming orange "clean?" smell and I just didn't want to smell that while eating. It was bad enough smelling it while waiting. So, we ordered to-go. Down to the order: Our food came out pretty fast, which of course, makes me worry. We got an order of the spring rolls, general tso's chicken, and mongolian beef. Spring rolls: I was told the filling was chicken and veggies. Where was the chicken? All I got was a mouthful of greasy cabbage spring roll. Yes, I know spring rolls are greasy, but these were overly so. I will not be ordering this again. However, the spring rolls were super hot. It's important for me to note that to put bad calories in my body, the food better be worth it! Mongolian beef: It was okay. I won't be ordering it again. I'm not a fan of soggy mongolian beef and prefer mine a little more on the well cooked, kinda firm side? If you've had PF Changs (on a good day), you'll know what texture I'm trying to get at. It said it was spicy on the menu, but I found it not to have any heat to it. Speaking of heat, most of the meat was barely even warm. Which of course, made me worry. Piping hot spring rolls that I couldn't even eat right away and then barely warm beef? So, I tossed all into a pan and made it piping hot, praying I wouldn't get food poisoning. (Which I didn't) I won't be ordering this again, it just wasn't my thing. Okay, now onto the redeemer: General Tso's chicken: This was right on the penny of the generic chinese food I was looking for. It was labeled spicy on the menu and it had the right amount of heat. The dish was also hot, like the chicken had just been fried and doused in sauce. Perfect. I will come back again for the general tso's chicken and I may be adventurous enough to try a different dish.

We order this tonight.. Pork fried rice, teriyaki chicken and egg fu yung. It was all highly distasteful! So disappointed in the food.

Hole in the wall, but very clean! Great food for the price. Best Chinese in central Oahu.

Every Chinese restaurant i have been to i would receive big portions, but this restaurant wont leave you with left overs because of their small portions. The location is really bad, it's located right next to a strip club "california Girls". The food seems to have a lot of msg. Their soup is really good tho but thats all that I enjoyed and they have take out service. The price is not worth the portion.

This is my 4th visit. Again, customer service was lacking. This is the closest Chinese restaurant but I really need to look for another one in this area. Any recommendations?

So far everything I've tried on the Island was below average. This place takes the cake. I mean is it just me or no one here knows what quality means? Soggy chicken, "fried rice" is really under cooked brown rice..not pleased for how expensive this slop is

    (1)
  • Zeny O.

Sadly there's nothing great about Great Wall. We had Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao, friend rice, everything was too salty, and the freid rice was greasy like it might have been deep friend.

    (2)
  • Katey P.

Love the food but don't bother getting it delivered through quick cuisine it will take 2 hours and cold you $5.99 in service fees to wait those 2 hours.

    (2)
  • Andrea J. G.

It's usually pretty good. Every now and then it's a miss, but it's my favorite place to go to on island still.

Went here for dinner tonight and ordered pork fried rice, beef broccoli, shrimp canton, and chicken chow mein. The fried rice was really good and the shrimp canton too. The chicken chow mein and beef broccoli were pretty standard. It's definitely not a fancy restaurant, but it's clean and the waitress was friendly and helpful. The prices are pretty reasonable too so I would come here again.

Located in Wahiawa on California Avenue. There is a creepy parking lot in the back but I've never ventured into that one way lane because I don't know if I'd ever come out... so I opt for street parking! (smart smart) ;) I've never eaten here but my BF has as well as his family. It's decent Chinese food. They have every staple Chinese dish that other Chinese places have: roast duck, char siu, roast pork, beef/pork/chicken dishes, seafood dishes, fried rice varieties, chow fun and chow mein varieties, soups, etc etc. Prices here are definitely reasonable and the portion is a nice size. The restaurant itself isn't anything spectacular; it's a simple restaurant but it gets the job done. It can get busy during lunch and dinner (I notice more take out during lunch and more sit downs during dinner). Staff have always been efficient and friendly. They also have delivery service... which I've never used. I guess you just call and make a take out order and just like a pizza they'll bring it to you so long as you're in the delivery area??... pretty cool if you ask me! Delivery Chinese ain't got nothin on pizza! lol My BF loves the garlic fried rice which he usually gets with roast duck and honey walnut shrimp. One two occasions we have also ordered a large pan of roast duck from here. The portion is very large and the price was reasonable at just about $90. I mean they fill up the pan with roast duck! Good deal! The duck itself tasted pretty good (so says my BF because I don't eat roast duck). All in all, if you're looking for Chinese food this is a good place to try!

I struggled between 1 or 2 stars. It wasn't the worst I've had but it certainly was far from the best. Our meat was soggy and the crab rangoons were well below par. I rarely waste food and I love General Tso chicken but I couldn't even finish my plate. Not worth the price and won't be ordering from here again.

  • Rita D.

So, maybe it's not the best Chinese food in the world, but it's close to where I live and better than Panda Express so I'll take it. It's better than some of the other Chinese places in Wahiawa, and the food is always the same quality. My husband's main complaint about is orange chicken is the chicken isn't coated in sauce the way he likes it...it's sitting in the sauce, if that makes sense. Hard to describe, but it doesn't really 'stick' to the chicken. Maybe it's a little watery, I'm not sure as I normally order cake noodle which is yum.

I ordered a Wide Assortment to get a feel for this place. First the Egg flower Soup had carrots, peas, and chicken which was nice. The Spring Rolls are greasy however, they also have chicken in them and are very good. The Crab Ragoons are made with probably cream cheese shallots and imitation crab meat, but they are good. I got the Chicken Lo Mein to try out, and it was good, probably one of the best Lo Mein I have had in Hawaii so far. The General Tso's Chicken was just lightly breaded in a great sauce. ALso the shrimp fried rice was great. Overall I will order here again. It is one of the best chinese I have found out in Wahiawa. The only downer I had was the sweet and sour sauce that came with the rolls and ragoons is very thin.

***UPPDATE*** As I have gone to this restaurant more and more, I just don't like it. Sometimes they are good but to me, that is just not good enough. Whenever I call, the lady always seems bored and annoyed, not welcoming at all. Overall, I have been nothing but disappointed as of late with this restaurant. I was very happy to find that this place is so close to me. It is a little seedy looking inside but I was happily surprised with my food. I ordered Broccoli Chicken and Won Ton soup. First, let me say that it seems like no where on island knows how to make Chinese food without making it a little more Japanese than Chinese... that being said, The Broccoli Chicken was very good! The only thing I didn't like was that the rice is a la carte. The Won Ton soup was also very good! The broth was nice and light and not too salty! I will absolutely go back.

This place is hit or miss. If you miss you will most likely get sick and the food will be all grease, if it's hit it will be great. Chicken chow mein isn't even in my top 10 but I like the chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, hot and sour soup, and egg rolls are some of the best I've had in years. I gave it such a low rating because I know several people who've gotten pretty sick from eating here over the past year.

Love their honey walnut shrimp, crab rangoon, and garlic fried rice

I've ordered delivery from them many of times, I decided to stop in today and check it out in person. Not the best atmosphere for a Chinese place but the food like always is amazing, I had the combo fried rice and I'm in love with their fried rice, large portions, not expensive, pretty quick service.

Small portions, food arrived cold, and was nasty. Never again.

Tonight we ordered takeout; beef broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, hot cake noodle with vegetables, cold ginger chicken, sweet and sour chicken. When we arrived we checked in with the greeter at the front door. She mentioned that our full order wasn't going to be filled and was going to be have only half and order of the sweet and sour chicken. That was free. For the rest, we paid for. The dishes were pretty good for the first time I've tried this place. The cashew shrimp and ginger chicken stood out for me.

the food is good for a small restaurant. Kayuk is really good, fried rice was really strange (it is not your quintessential), other things are tasty. pretty good for take out. mellow place big tables. Very Wahiawa

Great chinese food, it was surprisingly better than I expected. Ordered the General Tso's chicken with pork fried rice, my husband had the Hong Kong crispy chicken with pork fried rice also, and we were very satisfied :).

A little bit expensive for Chinese food, but it was still delicious. Called an order in a little more than half an hour and I got there, and I hate to wait another ten minutes. Place looks empty but they had a WHOLE BUNCH Of pick up orders in the side. It was no wonder why they took long. 4/5 cause the food was awesome. -1 cause the wait and price :c

The city of Wahiawa is home to a handful of restaurants but for Chinese, Great Wall is the best! My family and I are regulars, no menus needed as soon as we walked in she called our order to the back: Roast Duck and Noodles with extra veggies plus extra extra onions! #sofresh #sogood #sogone

just ordered delivery via quick cuisine from this place,& literally got a "kid size" portion of sweet and sour shrimp canton and kau yuk.(see picture) very disappointed in portioning,I have no clue, how I'm supposed to feed my family of 5 with what I've been given, looks like I still have to cook dinner tonight.

    (2)
  • Roy K.

Odered Mongolian Beef, pork sweet sour cabbage, and crispy won ton, for dinner. All delicious. The Mongolian Beef wasn't too spicy and the vegetables were not overcooked. Beef was tender and tasty.

Best Chinese food around. Pf changs is NOTHING compared to them. Shrimp fried rice and shrimp with lobster sauce are my faves :) I hate street parking so i usually go down what looks like a little scary alley located to the left of entrance, and voila, MORE PARKING. great food. decent price.

Ordered thru quick cuisine. They were very nice and polite. Read our order back to me to ensure it was correct. Took about an hr to arrive. Upon arrival it smelt delicious, we started to dig in and we were immediately disappointed. I had ordered the teriyaki chicken with fried rice and an order of crab ragoons and my husband had sweet and sour pork with lo mein and an order of spring rolls. Out of everything we ordered the crab ragoons were probably the best and they were only decent.. My "teriyaki" chicken was a tiny serving and very very bland. Whatever was on the chicken definitely didn't taste like teriyaki. The rice that came with it was supposed to be fried rice but looked and tasted more like steamed rice. It looked like it had soy sauce in it but upon tasting it, like the chicken, was VERY bland. Then my crab ragoons were ok. Definitely could've been cooked longer as they were very soggy. My husband's sweet and sour pork was also very bland and very tough. The piece he gave me tasted more fatty and grisly than like pork. His lo mein was flavorless and he ended up putting some of his sweet and sour sauce on it to help it go down easier. The spring rolls he ordered were tiny and oily. All in all we were not pleased in the slightest, we are still hungry, and paid entirely too much. The total ended up being $40 for only the two of us.

We tried Great Wall tonight and while it wasn't the best Chinese food it certainly wasn't bad at all. I wasn't too fond of the won ton soup but everything else was good, typical Chinese food. My kids ate everything so that is definitely a plus! We will be ordering again.

  • Katelyn R.

I absolutely love this place!! I crave the crab ragoons at least once a week!! I feel like the only reason they don't have a higher rating is because of quick cuisine. If you pick it up yourself or dine in it is amazing! Food is nice, hot, and delicious!! The only downfall is that they're not open Sundays because I would love some right now!!!

    (5)
  • Jamie L.

the food was good, but i have to go pick it up because they dont deliver to mililani town. only to the tech park. they should really deliver more this way because the food is good and its not that much farther of a drive...and they would probly have more buisness that way too

I was really craving some Chinese food, especially being pregnant. I placed a order and was really excited to stuff my face when the food arrives, especially a long day of work, and this is my first time ordering from them and i really heard good stuff about them, but 5 minutes after i placed my ordered to be delivered, i guess they dont deliver to ohai st in wahiawa after 6.pm .. Got my hopes up,I was really looking foward to trying their food. But I guess not. Thanks anyways.Hopefully they change that.If I had my car I would came and picked up the food myself, but at the moment im with out a ride.

Pretty decent. Its a hit or miss place. Ive learned what i love and what i dont like there. plus quick cuisine will deliver them to us over on schofield!! so i like that!

    (3)
  • Diane M.

Some of the best Chinese food we've had on island. Never had to wait for a table, and the food is usually pretty quick. We usually will do pick up though as I'm not real comfortable in the area after dark. Just feels run down and the shopping center isn't family friendly. Will continue to order, but will probably just do take out.

    (4)
  • Amanda M.

Idk if I was just craving chinese food but this place was great! Orange chicken and fried rice! So ono! Called in my order and picked it up in 20 minutes later nice and hot.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
