Hidden gem! Amazing! If you are staying the night around Volcano National Park, this is "THE" place you need to stay. It is a small bed and breakfast that is amazing! Impeccably neat and clean. The couple who run this genuinely love what they do and it shows. They are very welcoming and make you instantly feel comfortable and at home. I will be back to Hawaii and I will be staying here. Thank you for a great experience!

After staying in a tacky condo in Kona, the Volcano Forest Inn was an oasis--beautiful, spacious rooms, convenient to Volcanoes National Park, warm yet unobtrusive innkeepers--we were blown away. Almond cake and tea in the afternoon, nice breakfast in the AM. We wished we could have stayed longer.

We typically stay at resorts, but for part of our honeymoon we decided to stay in this B&B so we'd be close to the volcano. Overall the stay was enjoyable, although I doubt we'll be back, mostly because we don't typically stay in B&Bs. Pros: -Beautiful, large room. We stayed in the rain forest room, and we really were surrounded by rain forest. -Location is excellent, which is primarily why we stayed here. Only about 5 minutes to the volcano. Cons: -Soap/shampoo dispensers in shower did not look inviting. Thanks to yelp, though, I knew to bring along soap from my first resort, so this was not a problem. -We like to eat real, whole foods, so we didn't particularly like the "Can't Believe It's Not Butter" and "Pancake Syrup" at breakfast. I don't think it would cost the B&B much more to have real butter and maple syrup? -Not really a con for us, but could be for others -- the B&B manager was not very friendly. He wasn't unfriendly or anything, but he didn't go out of his way to chat with us. Again, we didn't care about this, but others might. We also asked him about dinner options and he didn't seem to know much about dinner options in the area, as he said only one place would likely be open at the time we wanted to eat (we were actually able to find restaurants much nearer by that were open; the first place was further away and could not seat us for 1.5+ hours). So, overall, the B&B is OK, and would likely be a nice place for some people, but it just wasn't our type of place.

This place has so much potential - the setting is beautiful, it's quiet, the rooms are huge, it's a very peaceful place! Beautiful bird sounds and pheasants on the property. But, they get it all wrong in terms of style - there really is none. Another reviewer called in garage sale chic, which is perfect. It's all so tacky, from the plastic chairs on the patios, the dated and dirty curtains, to the 3 pound Country Crock butter container that is laid out on the breakfast table. Don't get me started on the breakfast: an instant undercooked pancake with some sort of lemon extract in it, a tiny piece of store bought banana bread, 3 orange slices and half a papaya. Could we get a little protein here, folks? The coffee was horrible with the powdered Best Buy creamer and the tea bag was so cheap it wouldn't even steep in the cup. The innkeeper was nice enough in a creepy way, his cook was a riot, very sweet but told me way too much info on her life. Back to the room - extremely large but it felt moldy and dank. The pillow was flat and horrible. The dial hand soap smelled gross and I didn't even attempt to use the shampoo from the weird container labeled shampoo/shampooing - what does this mean? It could be such a great place if they just took a little time and effort to make it nice. Somebody needs to save this Inn!

The room was adequate for a Motel 6, but not what I've experienced at other B&B's both on the islands and the mainland. The quiet and solitude were wonderful, but that's the only thing keeping this review from being a 1. There was a strong odor of urine in the room throughout our stay, and the TV looked like something picked out of a yard sale. As others have remarked, the provided soap and shampoo smelled strangely like institutional dish detergent The innkeeper was a very "interesting" person. On our arrival he immediately began explaining how expensive electricity was on the island and warning us not to plug anything in because of supposed power surges that would fry everything. He then explained about his marital difficulties and how his wife had left the island and was filing for divorce. Although I did note that her name is still used on the website. And I'm pretty sure the owners of the Inn would not be happy to learn that their Innkeeper was regaling their guests with his medical marijuana use. Bottom line - there are other establishment within 2 miles of this place. Give them a try. For what this place charges, it's worth your time to keep looking.

What a great enclave in Volcano. Dan the GM was very accommodating and Nicky and her husband were so nice to chat with. The rooms were extremely comfortable and clean, free of any moisture and mold - which is very important this part of the island. We highly recommend and would stay here again.

This place is just OK. The innkeeper is kind of weird- he's nice enough, but has a way of making you feel sort of uncomfortable. The room was adequate, but nothing special, and I thought it was weird that there was only strange unmarked bottles of supposedly "organic" body wash (which smelled suspiciously like dishwashing detergent) and shampoo in the rooms. Everything about it was like staying over at a friend's house- nice enough, but you felt like you were tiptoeing around so as to not disturb the innkeepers, who live upstairs. They don't make themselves very available- the one time we had a question, we had to go upstairs to knock on their door, only to be told very sharply, "We'll be down in a minute!!" It felt like we had irritated them. Breakfast was a joke. A half a papaya and a measly little piece of banana bread? It's a bed and breakfast. Every other B&B I've stayed at has provided a hot breakfast of some kind. We were starving by 11 am, and we're small people. I don't think scrambling a few eggs would be too much to ask, especially not for $160 a night. I've stayed at hotels that are cheaper than that that include breakfast. We were also given a weird 10% discount, but we're not sure for what. The other couple who were staying there were also told they were given a discount, but were told that it was for a t-shirt that they had bought for the innkeeper. I'm in the hospitality industry, I work for a 5 star hotel, and we only give discounts when things go wrong. We hadn't complained about anything, so I can only imagine that it was to prevent us from writing possible negative online reviews? We couldn't wait to get out of there and away from the creepy innkeeper. Plus, the taking the shoes off before you come in? I guess I get it- they do get a lot of traffic from people who have spent the day in the park and probably have dirty shoes, but just sweep your floors every day. It's not like the innkeepers have anything better to do, since they certainly aren't spending any time shopping for breakfast items or going out of their way to make their guests feel at home. There are tons of other places to stay in the area- please do not waste your money at this place. I'm sure anyplace else would be far more friendly and welcoming.
