Great drinks on a HOT afternoon, waiting for the Expeditions Ferry from Lahaina, Maui back to Manele Boat Harbor, Lanai! Actually taste liquor in the drinks! I enjoyed the Lava Flow, which is like a coconut shake with pineapple and strawberry puree and rum! Yum! Friendly and prompt service! Woo hoo!

Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar - where i discovered the next best thing to Nutella on waffles and french toast..... Coconut syrup! We wanted breakfast, was actually looking for a different place, but ended up here. Service was friendly, loved our waitress, cute, and had a bubbly attitude. Nice view of the harbor. Even Alex the bird made it an interesting experience, when he wasn't squawking is head off. Ordered the Sweet Hawaiian bread french toast (before discovering the syrup). I broke away from my normal default of waffle breakfast, and went with something I can't get back home. I also got spam.... I love spam, its actually not normal how much I love it. all in all, left full and happy, maybe in a bit of a sugar coma after pouring half the contents of the bottle onto my toast.

We've been waiting 20 minutes for a hot dog and it still has not come out yet. Wtf!! Really????? Oh and when I asked for it then brought it out and it wasn't even hot is was room temp and all the waiters could say is that "it's happy hour" no apology for the long ass wait or anything. Ugh!!
(1)Nicole C.
Pioneer Inn has become a once per trip stop while we are staying near Lahaina. My 5 year old absolutely loves Alex the African Grey Bird that they have in the restaurant. We have never had a wait here and the staff and servers are all very personable and accommodating. Love their Molokai Sweet Bread French Toast! Good food, good people and a talking parrot?? What's not to love?
(4)Lynda R.
Seriously the very best fish tacos that I have ever had. And I love fish tacos!!! The bird is extremely irritating. Service was good. Great location.
(5)Marcus T.
This place almost met my standards for 5 stars as it offers a great oceanside view and the fresh fruit flavors are fantastic. As already mentioned in other reviews, the coconut syrup is divine! It went along perfectly with my wife's french toast and I seemed to drizzle it over everything on my plate. My omelet was ok and the service was fair, but overall the view and location made this place a prime spot to have breakfast. Alex the African grey parrot was a delightful greeter and helped to keep my toddler entertained with his variety of sounds.
(4)Erick A.
Very clean, great music, attentive wait staff, polite, great place to peope. Xlnt happy hour. Centrally located for boats and banyon tree and shopping. @travelswitheric
(4)Julie D.
Macadamia nut pancakes a must. Don't sit too close to Alex. 15% off for hotel guests was a great perk!! Love the history of the place.
(4)Red B.
Had brekkies here twice with my wife and loved both meals... she in particular absolutely adored the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict while I went for the Mowee Wowee Omelet twice (think Hawaiian pizza but in an omelet instead). Add a Bloody Mary a piece and we were happy as could be... go here and enjoy.
(5)Edwin C.
This place was amazing. My wife loved the French toast. The service was great. We suggest the Portuguese sausage.
(5)Michele L.
The prime rib sandwich is fantastic. The horseradish spread absolutely puts the sandwich in the best category. Hardest working server we've ever seen earned a huge tip by anticipating our needs. Husband had the seared Ahi tapas. He loved them too. Kids tried the Maui beef burgers. They raved about the flavor. In short, pick this place top easy!
(5)Sam S.
Went for breakfast for my 50th bday and the service was so bad we left without tipping. She was awful and made it our meal terrible. Sad.
(1)Debby W.
The waitress had a lot of tables to manage and she still was very quick to stop by and offer a beverage. We both ordered Fish & Chips... It was good. The pineapple coleslaw is not good. Coke was a fountain drink and tasted off. The view, ambience, music and TV screens in the bar area make it a place to stop. Washroom needs a key.
(3)Monica M.
Horrible prepackaged food. No originality. I am on an island surrounded by water, can I PLEASE get some fresh coconut shrimp? Third restaurant so far on Maui that uses pre-breaded seafood. I ordered from the tapas menu so I knew portion sizes would be small(er) but 3 small shrimp on a bed of cabbage is not an appetizer. I guess it's an island wide standard to only serve three shrimp at a time. The mac and cheese was so bland I had to salt it. I cannot remember the last time I held a salt shaker so I was a little embarrassed. There was no cream base, it was just elbow macaroni and cheese thrown in the microwave. Kraft mac & cheese tastes better! :( Anyway, service was worth the stars. All of the waitstaff were attentive and friendly. I won't be back for the food.

It's 4th of July and everything on Front St. is packed. So my family and I decide to go to the one place that has some open tables. We should have known that if its not packed, it's not worth it. Took a while to get our orders in but we ordered the cheese nachos, seared ahi, ribs, and a kids chicken tenders. After going around and trying all our orders, the verdict was... Nope and Yikes. Ahi was cold, the mac salad with the ribs were god awful, and the nachos were just eh. Best part of our orders were the pre breaded, microwaved chicken tenders. Long story short, definitely would have waited to eat at a crowded place compared to this.
(1)James J.
Cons: really loud, website is misleading. It is not a restaurant or grill. It's a bar. Pros: Fantastic service. Great waterfront bar atmosphere. Decor is nice, cleanliness is okay. Pricing is appropriate. They serve a tapas (appetizer) menu with happy hour 3pm-6pm.
(2)Helen L.
My husband and I enjoyed our breakfast at pioneer inn when we visited Maui in 20012. We have spoken highly of this restaurant to our friends and family. Upon our return things have changed because the service was not the se as before. Put waitress Michelle was not friendly or patient with us. She did not ask us if we wanted a refill on our water much less if we needed anything else. The food was good and the service was bad. The mahi mahi Benedict's were great and the oatmeal was very good. We will return because maybe Michelle was just having a bad morning. They were probably under staffed.
(3)Hannah L.
Good food and fast and friendly service. Plus we have the discount coupon from the hotel room so it was even better.
(4)Sebastian M.
The service sucked. Servers were only catering to Caucasian customers. I was here for a business trip and it took forever to get a server to help me and even longer to get my food order! I'm asian mix with brown skin and it seems like the only color that the staff sees is white. Although they advertise as Historic Lahaina, my experience was not the best. If given the opportunity I would not stay there again. It may have been a one off, but for the experience wasn't the best.
(1)Nadia H.
This place is pretty awful. I wanted to like it, since I stayed at the Pioneer Inn and it really was the easiest option, but agh. Food is sub-par at best. Dry, bland, unrefined. Service is pretty lame. Super rushed, with a side of B. Happy hour was weak. The few beers on happy hour were fine, I guess, but there wasn't much in the way of food items to go along with it. Fine for a one-time, I'm-too-lazy-to-leave-the-vicinity meal, but considering there are much better options across the street, you have been fairly warned.
(2)Wendy W.
The food was decent the service was terrible. We ordered toast with breakfast, which was an extra cost. We didn't mind. We never got it but it was on the bill. The waitress never came back to the table once the food was delivered. We had to track her down to pay for our breakfast. They were in the back talking amongst themselves instead of tending to their tables. I even saw another couple give their $ to the bus boy so they could leave. There was a group of people waiting to be seated while they were in the back. Totally not good for business. Management might want to look into this and have a talk with their employees. There are many other options out there with better service.
(1)Zenida J.
Pass if you can. Our family needed a place to feed on the Fourth of July and this place had seats for a reason. The cheese nachos barely had enough stuff for the first layer of chips. The seared ahi was cold with way too much wasabi sauce squirted on top. The rib plate was a rack of super dry ribs and drowned in BBQ sauce, and for the Pete do not eat the mac salad. It looked like it had been sitting out for a couple of hours - it was dry and warm, with no discernible taste other than bad. And you need a key card from the wait staff for the restroom, so be prepared for a grilling as to whether you're really a diner.
(1)Jimmers B.
We stopped at the bar on Halloween. Super busy. Lots of people having a good time, taking pictures and slamming drinks as quickly as they could be prepared. The Mai Tai's were surely not up to the standards of many of the other joints on Front Street but, hey, I'm sure they sold a boatload of them! Visited October 2014
(3)Allie H.
Mom and I were looking for a less busy, easy place to eat on front street on a Saturday night and stumbled upon this place. We got seated right away and they only had two other parties at the time. Our server got to us quickly and was friendly. We ordered sprites and waters which never got refilled. I ordered the clam chowder and the fish tacos. The clam chowder was too thick, but had great taste and a lot of clams. My fish tacos were really tasty. My mom ordered the pork nachos, the pork was dry and not what we were expecting but a good size portion and everything else on it was good. The reason for the 3 stars is more for service. We liked our waitress, but when we got there one of the sunset cruises was getting out and business started to pick up. She seemed to be the only waitress working so we didn't get much service other than a quick glance over. It took twenty minutes for us to ask for our check and another ten to fifteen before we actually got it. Definitely need to think about more staff, especially since we saw a waiter leave as business picked up... Weird. Overall a so-so experience. Hit or miss with the food, but definitely more like pub food. And service was rough but she was working her butt off to keep everyone happy. The owners should try and help her out.
(3)Alex W.
We just came in for a few drinks before our sunset cruise. It was right after happy hour ended so we missed out on there great deals (2 buds, 4 Mai tai) but the prices were still good. The staff we super friendly. They had a Hawaiian singer playing music while we were there. He did a awesome job. Another cool feature was the pet bird "Alex". He was very social and can talk. He even did the Andy Griffith tune while we were there which was entertaining in itself. Def should stop in for some drinks if you're in the area
(5)Ryan F.
Breakfast was awesome!!! Was a perfect all-american type breakfast with wonderful macadamia nut pancakes, eggs, bacon, potatoes, biscuits and gravy (which had tons of sausage). But I think the most awesome part was the prices. By far the best deal in all of Lahaina for a meal. I was in a bit of sticker shock on all the restaurants in the area, but I was very relieved when the bill for our meal was in a normal and acceptable range. We had good service and a good view of the docks. I wouldn't have any reservations returning to this wonderful historic place.
(5)Annie P.
macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup were the best. I went there 2 times in a week so I could get them again!
(4)Kirstie A.
Just so-so. Kinda looks like it needs a good scrub down and fresh paint. Waitstaff equally worn out. Cheap beer for happy hour. Tapas just fair quality.
(3)Chris M.
This review is for the breakfast we had. Not terrible but not good either. Omelets were ok, grits were like a soup, hash browns were pretty good but not homemade. Service was ok but as I write this review we have four empty drinks on the table out of four. There are much better breakfasts to be had nearby. Will pass on coming back.
(2)Marlene R.
Excellent place for a great breakfast!
(5)Christine C.
Awesome huevos rancheros and macadamia pancakes with coconut syrup.
(5)Dennis S.
This restaurant/bar/hotel right by the oceanfront is worn out, but with a very interesting history. The history is printed on the back of the menu - it's a good read. Service is excellent, really attentive. Beyond that it's not too exciting a place. The parrot looks like he'd rather be anywhere else, and after seeing all the locals and tourists pestering him, I'd have to agree. Food is ok, but nothing distinctive.
(3)Cheryl B.
While waiting for our dinner cruise to start, we popped in here for a quick cocktail and ended up with small tapas as well! I recommend the fish tacos! I was also pleased with their excellent selection of wine (although it was a limited list).
(5)Nice T.
Hands down, they served me the best Ahi steak i have ever eaten. The drinks were delicious, the bread soft and hearty, and overall the view was amazing.
(5)Jason L.
Great food, good prices, nice ocean view. Excellent calamari in sweet ginger sauce, excellent cevice. Big breakfasts.
(4)Mathias H.
The Pioneer Inn bar has a very nice and. Heap happy hour for drinks - $2 for some of the draft beers (the mainstream ones like Bud etc) and some others at $3-4 as well as drinks also around $3-4. It is fine for a beer or two. The service is however really poor, they are friendly but totally lack the will to provide information and are extremely slow. I knew about the happy hour since I was staying at the hotel but no information provided on the menu about it, when I asked I got vague answers and actually only after ordering got information that the dish I ordered was more $2 instead of $6 so do believe they could sell much more if they actually showed an interest in it. Beer was fine and it is nice to sit and look at the harbor. Food (had some nachos) was standard pub stuff - prices are good so fine stop for happy hour (from 3-6 every day) but do not expect anything fancy or good service. Still visited twice during my stay in Lahaina but mainly due to staying at the hotel.

Wife loves macadamia nut pancakes so we decided to check this place out, no one answered the phone but we came anyways. Got there the line was 30 deep, thought ok thats why they didn't answer the phone, after 15 minutes the line started to move, I peeked in and their was tons of open tables and thought it very strange we were waiting to be seated, finally we get sat, 15 min later dude brings us waters and menus, 10 min later a rather slow, large, tall and grouchy waitress asked us if we were ready to order we said we were, she took our order without writing it down, which worried me and rightfully so as our order came 45 min later terribly wrong, we asked another person to fix it, 15 min later we got our food. Honestly eggs and pancakes aren't hard to make but it was a HUGE stretch for them today. Dennys is 5x the food quality as this place, for breakfast anyways and at these prices, I'd hit Cheeseburger in paradise up the street that really is ocean front from now on. Go elsewhere unless you like huge waits, bad service and crappy food.
(1)Kelli D.
Fish Taco just okay. Service was worse! Too angry to think now. Disappointing- don't be a waitress if you hate waiting on people!
(1)Bianca Y.
The mahi egg bennedict was so yummy I had to come back a second time to satisfy my craving! So good it should be 5 stars but other food was just ok and bathroom card is a pain in the ***.
(4)Tara M.
Open air, but covered. Right off Front Street, next to the big Banyan Tree, and across from the Harbor == lots of people watching. Food was good; not the best, but very reasonable for Maui. $8 for 2 small fish tacos - $25 for fresh catch of the day. We ate there for lunch and dinner because of the convenience, the decent prices, and just enjoying Lahaina atmosphere.
(4)Jessica L.
I really like this place for brunch. Very quaint and historic. It's perfect if you're headed for a day trip from the harbor or a day in Lanai. Definitely not the best food in the world, you come here more for the experience of an historic Hawaiian location. Similarly, the waitresses are all aging hippies so don't expect insane service, but they're all really nice. The coconut macadamian nuts pancakes are AMAZING and I definitely fantasize about these often and am attempting to recreate them when I'm back on the mainland. The Loco Moco was solid, with great gravy.
(4)Tyson J.
We were looking for a place close to the water and stopped here. Neat appearance, over cooked food in the burger and fries. A friend had a chicken salad, chicken was undercooked. Wife had the ahi ahi salad and said it was ok. It seems that there are many more better choices for your visit to Lahaina. Staff was nice.
(1)Marc D.
Not a dedicated host/ess, we were sat by a waiter with a short attitude. Our waitress was inaattentive, as we had to ask a bus boy to refill our water. The food was mediocre; the coconut shrimp tasted like something from Skippers, the Pork Sliders were average and nothing special ( I expect sliders in Hawaii to be served on sweet rolls, at least). My wife was able to identify the dehydrated potato base of her clam chowder by taste. She said her Caprese salad was good, but that's hard to mess up. I was very underwhelmed with the quality of food, and the service, although busy, left something to be desired. Find another place for lunch.
(2)Lindy L.
I just went in to have a drink after returning from visiting a friend in Lana'i. I was basically denied s service. Horrible customer service. Then when I tried to use the restroom I wasn't allowed. I realize I may look like a Local because of my ethnicity and tan that I picked up this week, but I'm a paying customer on vacation and am appalled by the rudeness of this establishment. I highly recommend he Cool Cat across the was instead.
(1)Tiff C.
My dad and I loved the nachos there! It's an appetizer, but the portion was so big it could have been a meal! We ended up sharing, and it's a crunchy tasty mix of beans- not black as they had written on their menu- delicious pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream, cheese. Next time I would ask for extra pico de gallo. As for the service, it was amazing quick and fast. One glance at the waiter's direction, he would come over and ask if we needed anything, etc. Our water glasses were constantly refilled, even when it was just halfway empty. Granted it was during a slow time of day, but they were still on the ball. Other establishments, when it's quiet, they can easily drop the ball, but not the folks here! It's an open eating area, no air condition, but it's right by the water, so there is a fresh breeze always coming in. Just beware of the occasional fly or a birds flitting around your feet wanting some fresh crumbs. Overall a good experience, and if you're a guest of the Pioneer inn hotel, you get an addition 15% coupon everyday of your stay! Not a bad deal for a quick meal.
(4)Stan B.
The best breakfast on this side of Maui hands down! With great service and big servings to satisfied your morning including local characters.
(4)Stephanie A.
This place is delicious I loved everything on the menu, from the freshly squeezed pineapple juice to the macadamia Nut Pancakes and coconut Syrup to pour over, it was extremely delicious I recommend anything on the menu the Polish sausage is worth the second trip to Lahaina ;)
(5)Kristi N.
Love this place! Best breakfasts in Lahina. I love the fresh fruit plate, the french toast is killer, the banana pancakes out of this world. If you finish the Loco Moco you are good till dinner. AND a talking bird.
(5)Tom S.
The food here was fairly average, but the service was far worse. The waiter visited our table a grand total of 3 times, once to take our order, once to bring our food and drinks (which he never refilled) and once for the bill, which obviously garnered no tip.
(1)Jennifer N.
We went here and sat at the bar while trying to escape the Lahaina heat! They have a very strange parrot that sits in the bar area. It doesn't talk back to you because it is apparently a very young parrot and that is something that parrot's learn as they get older. It just squacked, a lot. Pretty amusing but it could get annoying. The beer was good! Service was great. Seemed like a good place. Nice location next to Banyan Tree park.
(4)Jerry C.
Come in for happy hour...$2 bud/bud light and chips and salsa. 3-6pm
(3)Joelle C.
Breakfast: macadamia pancake is bigger than your face!! Good for sharing with your whole family :) loco moco is the best here. The patty is super thick and i got extra gravy with mine. The Portuguese sausage was really good too! Lunch: fish n chips were really crispy. Their coleslaw is awesome. Sweet and it has pineapple bits. Drinks: happy hour 3-6pm :))
(5)Cathy B.
Located on the coast. We went for happy hour and dinner. This is a historical landmark. Lots of locals coming from the wharf area. The food is very good and the drinks are better then the drinks at the Marriott Resort where we are staying, plus 1/3 the price. Alex is a feathered regular at talk and whistles to the customers.
(5)E. Y.
It's no wonder the place was despondently vacant with only 2 or 3 tables occupied during the lunch rush. When your restaurant is empty and a family walks in requesting a larger table, just give it to them. You may get 1) good karma 2) good yelp review 3) good tab 4) good tip and 5) good yelp review. I realize numbers 2 & 5 are the same but it bears repeating. Save yourself the hassle: for mediocre food and minimal service, there are dozens of other places in Lahaina you can visit that will also be moderately priced. At least they won't turn you away before you've even tried to spend a dime.
(1)Charles W.
This place is in a cool location, inside the historic Pioneer Inn - the first full hotel established in this old Whaling town. My family and I stopped here for breakfast on the day we were meeting for a midday submarine trip. I can't speak to other food items, but the breakfast food was all good and of high quality, and service was excellent. Bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes - they pretty much have it all, and its all good. The breakfast potatoes were especially good. I heard the parrot, but did not go see him - after reading the other reviews, I should have stopped by to say "hi".
(3)Michael D.
Stopped in for a quick bite after exploring downtown and enjoying a submarine tour. Service was fast and excellent. Food came in moderate portions (except fries). Fries were exceptionally tasty cross-cut style. Cheeseburger, grilled fish sandwich and fish and chips were all worthwhile choices. Beverages refills were quick and choices were as expected, with a moderate selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices. The parrot in the corner is real, but don't let him distract you from the tasty food. Overall worthwhile and I would definitely eat here again with my family.
(4)Chris G.
This place joins my favourite pub list. I love going here at happy hour for a Kona Castaway IPA (hard to find on Maui, most places supporting the local brewery with their excellent Big Swell IPA). I like the fish taco appie. The Inn has that old world feel, old wood, old decor, on the waterfront, open air, with no A/C. Wife and friends tell me the happy hour Mai Tai is pretty darn good too!
(4)Robyn R.
This place is worth a shot for its history alone: If memory serves, the inn is the oldest, longest-consecutive running hotel in the Hawaiian islands. The plantation green exterior nails this home, as well as the old, polished wood that makes up much of its interior. The restaurant faces the harbor, and is set right off the buzz and energy of First Street. It's a lovely place to spend an afternoon whiling away with a great meal and drinks--their Bloody Marys are especially good (spicy, ripe, with just the right amount of booze), as well as their ceviche. The fish and chips here are meh--the breading is a bit thick--and the the daily catch isn't worth its market price (at least not on my latest visit). Their homemade tortilla chips have lingered in my mind, though--they're perfectly cooked and crispy--as well as their guacamole. Service can be on the slow side, which some might complain about, but it reflects the laid back experience the venue does such a swell job of creating. Will return, time and again.
(4)Cristy R.
Their Hawaiian Sweetbread French Toast (made with Portuguese Sweet Bread) with coconut syrup is yummy in my tummy! I split an order with my boyfriend. He devoured an order of the Big Kahuna Pancakes( two plate-covering pancakes) along with eggs & bacon. I feasted on a fresh half of papaya. Definitely stop here for breakfast. It's affordable with an ocean view!
(5)Gina B.
I was first introduce to POG (passion orange guava) at Pioneer! We went on our first full day in Lahaina for breakfast. $6.95 for 2 eggs w/all the fixin's...it was a huge plate of food and I literally took half of it home for breafast the following day. The quality didn't blow me away, but for the price...it was sooo nice! Nice location for a sunrise breakfast. Just an fyi; they have a talking parrot in the bar area....and he is a chatty thing. Just talkin away the entire time. Cute for about 2 minute, then really annoying after that. He's got quite the vocabulary though!
(3)Katey H.
This is a great location in front of the marina at Lahaina to have some great food and people watch. We were there for breakfast and I ordered the mix that included eggs, bacon and potatoes. These were some of the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had! My dad had the pancakes which were HUGE and very good. Don't need to order anything other than two of them, good luck finishing them. I felt bad for our waitress because it seemed like she was working harder than the rest of the staff. Don't forget to stop and visit their bird Alex, who by the way might be eating some bacon!
(4)Kate C.
Mowed down some food here after departing the Ferry to Lanai across the street. I was so hungry I considered gnawing on the crayons so this review might be skewed by the fact I would have eaten paint chips and licked my fingers clean! The main squeeze and I ordered the make your own fish tacos with all the fixings off the pupus menu. And the equivalent of Chili's triple dipper. Pull and peel shrimp, eggrolls, and ... now I don't remember, (is there a less than useful button?). I thought the eggrolls were an usual choice but they were the first to go on the sampler. A couple rootbeers and the check in about 20 minutes left us enough time to get a move on our drive to Hana. Very fishermanny, nice outdoor dining and people watching!
(4)Bill H.
Fish and chips were soggy, fish of the day was over done, and when we got our bill they automatically charge you a 20% tip. We only had four people in our party, should not get an auto tip. Food is bad, service is so-so, and there is a noisy bird in the corner that screeches every 5 minutes leaving your ears ringing. Avoid this place!
(1)Tera Paleka P.
Every Tuesday AM we have our Lahaina Sunrise Rotary meeting here. I enjoy not only the breakfast but Mark is the best server in Lahaina! I come here often through-out the week to just have a quite place to eat and journal. Great Kamaaina specials..
(4)Marjolyn D.
We ate here for lunch and I ordered the mahi fish & chips and my husband ordered the appetizer trio. The pineapple coleslaw that came with the fish & chips was super refreshing and delicious. The calamari was so good (i would definitely order a whole plate next time). Service was pretty good and I loved the look of the restaurant. Birds would just fly in and out as they pleased which was fun to see.
(4)Bob C.
After horrible fish experiences at Ruth's Chris and at a BBQ joint, my parents finally found some redemption with Mahi Mahi served with a Mango Salsa here. Cooked nicely and paired well with the salsa. I had the Maui Paniolo Steak which was pretty good, though slightly overcooked (medium when I asked for medium rare). Didn't quite have the flavors I got used to at Honolulu Harry's in Chino (now Kealoha's).
(4)Kyle D.
Presentation: 0/10 Service: 2/10 Food: 0/100!!!!! Atmosphere: 1/10 Don't waste your time their. Also don't bring kids (there are drunks!!!)
(1)Stephanie S.
The food is average and the drinks are fairly cheap but the waiter shorted us on our change. It'll be a while b4 were back.
(2)Christiane D.
Yesterday was my first time at Pioneer Inn and I enjoyed my time here. We got a table facing the street area and got their in time to check out the live music that played from 5-8pm. They have a great Happy Hour that runs from 4-7pm that includes domestic beer for $2 and any premiums for $3.50. They also have a selection of appetizers for the same prices. It's a great little place to get a cheap Happy Hour and some snacks to go with it. Our service was decent considering how busy the restaurant was (every chair/table was full) and the vibe was great with everyone around us. The band kept the people entertained and attentive for the most part while the beverages kept coming. My one little complaint would be that there isn't a lot of space in the bar area, which causes a bit of a problem if you are trying to shimmy to the restroom. It's quite the obstacle course overall. If you are looking to catch the live music, I suggest coming down a little early because it does get busy quickly. As for parking, it's downtown Lahaina, you get what you can find. They do take credit cards and the attire is casual.

Breakfast is open at 0700, so good for an early riser like myself. Eggs are fantastic. I had them scrambled, and they were fluffy, light, and perfectly cooked. The country sausage was links, with tight outer skin that snapped as I cut into them. Delicious. The french toast on sweet bread was a novelty mostly, but I was unimpressed with the actual taste. It was huge when they brought it out, and was served with regular breakfast syrup and coconut syrup, as well as powdered sugar on top. The sweet bread's subtle flavor was mostly unnoticed. I like my french toast heavy on the eggs. Coffee was good and hot. It is Maui company coffee, but the flavor seemed very similar to columbian I have at home. Good score for quality and speed of service, and quality of eggs and sausage.
(5)Catherine A.
Second time here for breakfast! Still great food with interesting historical ambience. Fruit plate was fresh and ono. Eggs Benedict was good although one section of my muffin was a bit burnt! All in all great value.

Whatever you get for breakfast, make sure you include pancakes! Excellent restaurant with a great staff.

Considering there is not a lot of epicurian treasures in Lahaina (in my humble opinion) this isn't so bad. It has a fun history, and nice open patio not too far from the ocean, and a little off of Front street. We went there for breakfast - Bloody Mary could have used a little more of a kick, the coffee was a little too strong (what could I expect) and they were suspiciously out of macadamia nuts due to a 'shortage' that we hadn't heard of anywhere else. My friend tried the traditional Hawaiian Loco Moco, and I had the Maui Wowie omelet which were both fine. Nice to be able to eat outside with the fresh ocean air!

It's a tradition coming here every time I'm in Maui. I've only had breakfast here. I would recommend the macadamia nut pancakes or the loco moco. It's another restaurant that is in a prime location and with history behind it also. The service can get a little bit better. We had the same waitress that we had 5 years ago. She had the same attitude, as if you're putting her out of her way.
(4)Mike P.
Nothing fancy. Wife's sausage was overcooked. Walk to Lahaina Coolers and eat there, it is much better.

Ate here for lunch after walking around Lahaina. French Fries; perfect. They were nice and crispy and not greasy. Salad; fresh. Blue cheese dressing; strange, glad I got it on the side. I ate my salad dry. Ice Tea; very good. Slightly higher touristy prices. Our waitress was on the ball. Now that the meal is out of the way, the reason we walked into this place is that it looked very charming with all of the nautical décor. They even have a huge parrot squawking at people. The hotel attached to the Grill had all the nautical whaling charm that anyone could ask for. However, if you want to do a theme right you must pay attention to every detail. Music is also a big part of creating the right atmosphere. The music was horrible, horrible classic rock that you hear everywhere; it was made worse, by a young waitress (not ours) that couldn't make up her mind and kept changing it every 5min. How about a playlist with some old time drinking songs, some sea shanties and other nautical themed music? I understand that it is also a bar type atmosphere and that is why there is a modern TV for sports and stuff. But maybe play more relaxing music for breakfast and lunch until happy hour. The crappy music just ruined all of the fantastic décor.

Located at the Lahaina harbor. Great place for drinks after a boat ride. Some afternoons and evenings local musicians play which can be a great time with dancing.

My cousin Dean (from Hawaii) and I ate at the "Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar" in Lahaina, HI on 12/15/2011. It was my first time there. Nice location, not far from the water. A bowl of their New England Style Clam Chowder costs $5.95 while their Fish Tacos cost $9.95.
(5)Courtney B.
Live music on Wednesday's. Lots of fun for groups and great before dinner drinks. Wednesday's are best if you like to shake your groove thang down by the water. Great views!
(4)Michelle E.
Had fish and chips and it was really good! Lots of food for a good price. Outdoor seating was nice too, view of harbor
(4)Karyn W.
Again, stumbled upon while looking for a place to eat breakfast and watch the water. Not really a view spot, the food was good. My kids had the loco moco, I had 2 eggs, bacon, rice and pineapple. The food was good. However, the service was slow. Well, not slow, but it became obvious that there was a table of more important people than everyone else in the restaurant, because they were seated well after us, and served long before us. I hate that. Kinda messes it all up for me. A personal note, having been in sales for 25 years. You never know who you are snubbing, so snub NO ONE!!!! Had that not happened, it would have been 4 star no doubt.

We had a great visit, and loved the eggrolls. The service was excellent, and the beer cold. A nice open air location.
(4)Charlene S.
The Best Bloody Mary on the West shore of Maui. Great macademia nut pancakes too all at reasonable prices.
(4)Nikki W.
Not a favorite. Probably the worst meal we've had on Maui! Ordered an omelet which was blah..coffee horrible. The eggs Benedict were the worst I've ever had, the sauce tasted like it was out of a can and the english muffin it was on tasted strange as did the ham, so overall just gross. Ordered a side of 1 mac nut pancake just to try it out, the waitress brought us 2 ( the normal portion which cost $7) I was so irritated I just didn't say anything and wanted to leave. The ONLY thing they did right was a side of fresh pineapple, luckily that is pretty hard to screw up. Let's not also forget that the waitress came to out table 3 times before we reminded her about the coffee order and then just said oh instead of sorry or I'll go get that now or something else polite. My advice, stay clear....

Lanai three times a week right before I get on the lanai ferry and right after I get off-line ferry P.I in his right there they have a good breakfast their staff is wonderful. If you ever get a chance to go go to the PI You should check out Jermy the bartender he's very knowledgeable about the islands and drinks that he makes are hands-down the best
(4)ELDA T.
Food is disgusting. 3 fish tacos (pupus) was chopped & "grilled" fish in oil. My partners fish & chips were hard. Kids Dino chicken bites were cold & old looking. Fries nasty. The ONLY good thing that was good was the iced water. Never again. Well considering I've been here in Maui for 7 days and this is our last day and the only bad experience guess not too bad. I will never ever go again!!! It's a shame that the location is beautiful but sadly the food is horrible.
(1)Sahil M.
Good hotel, however crazy server here who billed us another customers bill, did not add the 15% coupon provided!! Great central location, other than the server incident I the place has decent ambience
(1)Ashley S.
I sat down, chugged a beer and left to catch the ferry over to Lanai!! The quick five minutes I was there the server was very friendly! I think she stopped over 2-3 times in that 5 minutes!! I have yet to try anything else but a beer! Atmospher seemed fun! older or family type crowd. Located right on the water in downtown lahaina. WOuld love to come back and spend more time and maybe try the food!!
(4)Anna S.
busy place. so it took a while to get food. we were a large party so it was very hard to get a table. we had to just sit separately and wait to move tables later...
(3)Cassandra C.
Location was awesome. Right across the street from the Banyan Tree with a view of the ocean and ocean breezes. The food was good, standard fare. There was live music at the park across the street which added to the experience. We sat at a booth and those on the back side got an awesome view but the seat cushions had seen better days. I sunk in all the way to my knees when I sat down. But, a few minutes looking at the ocean listening to the jazz wafting through the air made up for that. Service was very good.
(3)Matt E.
Horrible service. Lousy food. Would not recommend this place to anyone. The happy hour drinks are watered down and one of my jalepeno poppers was still cold in the middle.
(1)Amy V.
Average food, but great happy hour prices. Friendly staff and amazing views!
(3)John A.
I'd take a star off for just ok food, but the ambience is well worth it. Try the local draft at a table facing the half wall for a few of the banyan tree. Beware you might have to wade through a sea of tourists but - hey this Hawaii.
(4)kahau m.
sat at the bar. a few beers. a crazy a** parrot that says some crazy things. baseball game on. good time for sure! bartender is hilarious. "i dont serve ninjas! so dont sneak up on me!"
(5)L. D.
Actual visit was on 12/23/11. I had the Grilled chicken wrap with veggie sticks. Veggies were good, the wrap was ok. I wouldn't rush back based on this meal.
(2)Mike M.
The food and service was fine. Typical burger and fries place with great ambiance. The down side is the waiter didn't like my 15% tip and decided to tack on another 5%. When going here always pay cash.
(2)Alan K.
We had a late lunch there on Friday. The happy hour pupus were cheap and fair (typical stuff, buffalo wings, nachos, etc., you know, frozen stuff tossed into a deep fryer, that type). I had the fish and chips, wifey had the mahi sandwich, lil girl had the hot dog. The food is fair. My fish wasn't bad. So is wifey's grilled mahi sandwich. The sides (fries, cole slaw, etc.) were forgettable. For the price, you can do a lot better elsewhere. Note that this is primarily a bar. There are just enough food on the menu for this place to pass as a restaurant. Definately won't revisit. Not worth the money.
(2)Tony K.
Fun drinks at the marina. Nice patio to sit and have a drink. Only had drinks and they were Great !!
(5)Emery W.
I ate breakfast here twice on my trip to Maui. The first time I had eggs and sausage and the second time I had eggs benedict. Neither meal was anything out of the ordinary, but the prices and service was pretty good both times.
(3)Easy S K.
Shiiity service from this dingbat F*** waitress. Hardly anybody in the joint. Shitty breakfast. I ordered typical full american breakfast, and it didn't even come with any toasts. No refills on my coffee. What are they smoking???? What were you thinking when you hire these people to run your business? I am so pissed just thinking about this place. What a f...ing waste of time!!!!!!!!! 6/6/09 for breakie and never to return to this place in my life time.
(1)Stephanie F.
They have a certain bartender there that is AWFUL. I was visiting my parents and we went to go see JD & Band play on a Wednesday night. They never would have gone if I hadn't been in town because of this bartender. Every time they go there, and I experienced it too while I was there, the bartender is RUDE and has no interest in serving customers at the bar. When we got there we walked up and tried to order a drink and he told us we had to get seats and order from our server. Well, there weren't any open tables and we weren't interested in ordering food, we just wanted to hang out and listen to the music. After my father argued with him about serving us he finally poured us each a beer. We ended up with seats at the bar after some folks left and when my beer was gone it took some effort on my part to grab his attention. (this isn't a big bar, maybe 10 stools) When my mom finished her beer and he asked her if she wanted another she said no, because she was driving but asked for some water. The bartender actually rolled his eyes and never brought her water. When I had finished my last beer he asked me if I wanted another and when I said no he rolled his eyes at me! Sorry, to be so long-winded but as you can probably tell this was not a pleasant experience. I don't understand why a place of business would allow for a bartender to be so awful to its patrons. Like I said, if it weren't for me being there my parents never would have gone and that bartender is the reason for it. They've been a few times in the past and every time he is so awful that they've just stopped going. It's horrible for business.

The parrot in the bar was the highlight of our visit here. We came for breakfast, which was reasonably priced and tasty. The server was good and overall accommodating. Nothing amazing but worth a stop. Also, the decor was interesting and the street parking was easy to come by, but there wasn't much on the kids menu.
(3)J B.
Meh............ Just don't... the food is just crappy- Denny's style. Not worth the time or money, you are in Hawaii- go somewhere else...
(2)Colin M.
Awesome breakfast! French toast was huge and more than enough. Although it is a part of the best western, you would never know it besides their name tags (you dont even enter the hotel)
(4)Steve V.
Mahimahi eggs benedict... unbelievable!!!! Maybe the best potatoes ever. Wow! This place will be a hnag of mine whenever I'm there.
(5)Ziggy K.
Food A+: get the ahi salad. The seasoning on the ahi is amazing.
(4)Tara L.
Always go for breakfast when I'm in town. The french toast is so good! It's made with Hawaiian sweet bread and served with regular and coconut syrup. Add in a side of the breakfast potatos and you are set! Service has always been friendly and the parrot (jake?) is hilarious!

Went back to Lahaina again this year and found this place. Last year we didn't even notice it.. not sure why. This year we actually ate there a couple of times during our trip. It's a great place right on the marina. Service was great, people are friendly. First time we went was for Happy Hour. I had the nachos.. HUGE & Delicious especially for the price!! My boyfriend had Buffalo Wings.. he said they tasted pretty good and was a good protion for Happy Hour. We also ordered just a typical green salad.. HUGE.. seriously I wish more restaurants would give you dinner salads with all the fixings and make them as big as the Pioneer Inn's. The next time we went for dinner... I had the seafood scampi. It was pretty good. Lots of fresh seafood and tasted great. My boyfriend order the clam chowder which was yummy!! For dinner he had Maui Paniolo Steak. I had a couple of bites myself and I sort of wished I had gotten it. It was a great size and my boyfriend couldn't finish all of it.. and he's not a light eater! Everything on his plate was yummy! We were pleasantly suprised with this place and that's why we kept coming back. Some of our friends actually made it down there for breakfast a few times as well and they loved it too. It's a must go!
(4)Denis K.
Food was good. Service was friendly. Mac pancakes were H-typical with a side of sausage. The eggs benedict was also typical.
(3)Roni L.
had a lunch here- everything was super tasty... great kids meal, plus the proprietors were super friendly, and the parrot was a hit. Didn't dig the 6+ automatic gratuity add-on... since when did it drop from 8+?
(3)D J.
Good view of the harbor, this bar is very old and has history.
(3)Michelle M.
Definitely the best breakfast we had while in Maui. Try their french toast or the variety of tasty omelets.
(5)Michael C.
Wicked happy hour, $4 Mai Tai , best bartender around .... great place for an afternoon drink
(4)Jon N.
you know, it's as touristy a location as possible and yet for drinks, this place is great. Decent happy hour, awesome outdoor vibe, friendly enough wait staff. The location is as convenient as it gets. We actually went multiple times. $2 poppers, chips or moz sticks for their happy hour food. Beer was $3.50-ish I think, pretty darned good mai tais for around same price. When you're looking for a nice place to grab a drink around 330pm on a hot Maui afternoon, it's a good place to go
(4)Sarah B.
Good location, good well drinks, ok food. Parrot at the bar and charming (not at all authentic) decor. You can definitely do worse in central Lahaina.
(3)Scatman D.
I remember going here for breakfast over 20 years ago and some things like the view and the building/bar have not changed a bit. The prices for breakfast are very reasonable and there is a kids menu. Pancakes are a great deal and keep you full for hours after. Could be four stars if the place was a little cleaner (high chair for my kid had bugs crawling on it) and service faster.
(3)Brandon M.
Best drinks in Lahaina Great happy hour prices. Friendly staff. Views of the Banyan Tree while you relax.
(5)Tina B.
Do NOT eat here. Drinks maybe. But dinner?? We paid $30 for a cardboard tasting mahi mahi. We ordered the fish cajun style, and it arrived overdone and with NO seasonings. When asked about the cajun seasoning, our server replied "well, you have to ask for it". We said we DID ask for it. And she said "Well, it's just a rub!" obviously NOT willing to redo the fish. But we insisted on the cajun spices. So she took away the fish and returned in 30 seconds with the SAME fish that had been dry seasoned with the mango salsa re-applied! Any restaurant worth it's salt would have seasoned the fish and grilled it, but NO, not this sorry restaurant. Really??? Applying DRY seasoning on an alreadey cooked fish???? It tasled like cardboard. The seasonings were absolutely raw. The fish completely overcooked. Fresh?? More like Frozen! The bill was presented MINUS a 15% off coupon we had supplied and the server said "Oh, sorry, I just haven't slept". Vegetables consisted of broccoli with the tips brown and yellow. Completely OLD and should never have been served. The food is AWFUL. Drinks maybe but do NOT expect good food for the outrageous prices. Plenty of other places to spend your money!!!

Another one of our favorite haunts each time we are in Maui. Lahaina is a daily stop and we go to the Pioneer inn a few times during our stay. They make great drinks, crunchy calamari and don't skip the ceviche. I tried it here first and now I look for it every where I go. I thought initially it was a Hawaiian thing but it's Mexican so check out your local Mexican restaurant if you want to give it a try and your not at the Pioneer Inn.

after a night of camping lahaina-side, lily was grumpy and hungry and looking for a good sit-down breakfast. we wandered front street looking for a good spot when a vendor recommended pioneer. it took FOREVER to get seated (even though there was only one group ahead of us and plenty of seating) but we finally got a table outside by the railing. the service was horrible. the waiter constantly had us vying for his attention, he brought us 4 coffees instead of the 3 we ordered, and he just seemed always in a rush to get to other more important tables than ours. the boys went with just coffee. one tried to get a piece of bread and butter (which was a nightmare to ask our waiter -- he kept getting confused about what he wanted and flat out denied that they had bread and butter a few times) and ended up paying 2.50$ for a side toast and jam. lame. i got the eggs benedict which were actually the saving grace for this place. they were excellently prepared (the eggs were just the right degree of runny-ness and melted in my mouth), the hollandaise had just the right kick and the ham was cooked perfectly. my friend got a standard egg plate with toast and potatoes that she said was pretty decent. would rate this a one for the horrible service, inattentiveness and the fact that we were treated like second-class diners . . but i had to raise it one since i loved my meal so much. probably won't go back though. and i'm not recommending.

We are staying in Ka'anapali, which is pretty close to Lahaina, so we decided to check out Pioneer Inn & Grill for a lunch. The decor was nice, right on the edge of Front Street where you can see a lot of tourists cruising the town, great for people watching. The service was friendly and helpful. Our waitress recommended the Buffalo wings appetizers over the calamari (since those are the only two that I wanted to try at the time) so I went with the Buffalo wings. My boyfriend ordered the seafood scampi pasta dish. Everything was wonderful. I loved the buffalo wings with the spicy, sweet and sour sauce, which came with carrot and celery sticks and cool ranch dressing. It was a generous portion for an appetizer, easily bigger than his seafood scampi. But the seafood scampi was the best we've ever had; the sauce was great, plenty of shrimps, scallops, and mahimahi. It also came with the garlic bread that was very good for mopping the sauce. We topped it off with a Mai tai and a Lava Flow. Mai tai was alright, the Lava Flow was definitely better. If you come during their Happy Hour the drinks are half off. All in all, good food and friendly service.
(4)Bryan L.
Located near the giant Banyan tree in downtown Lahaina, the Pioneer Inn + Grill is solid. The food was decent (the ahi appetizer had lots of fish for the price and was very fresh), we got seated immediately. No problems with the service. The location and view is nice. It's right next to the pier so you can see the boats coming in and out. There are some pay parking lots nearby, but if you're lucky you should be able to find a 3 hour street parking spot or park in the free lot a bit south on Front Street.
