This place is awesome. Best dive bar in Maui. Open late, cold beer, strong drinks. Service is awesome. If your staying near Lahania this is the perfect late night spot. I have probably been here every weekend since I arrived in Maui. A fun spot for sure.

We got there as the restaurant opened, my husband and I both ordered taco salads with steak which was the BEST we've ever had. The owner was attentive and friendly, even drew us up a map of scenic sights to see as we drive the coast. On the other side was a dive bar which we didn't order anything from but there were several people already sitting at the bar at 11am. It was a cute little restaurant in a strip mall, prices were good. If I travel back to Maui, would definitely return.

Love this place!!! Cute bar with great food and drinks. If you want to have fun and listen to live music then this is the place to go while on Maui.

If you are looking for a pompous bartender then this is the place for you.. We gave this place two try's and just his absolute cockiness has us leaving again..

Really a mix of feelings on this spot. We wanted something quick and close and this place was down and dirty. To call it a dive bar would be too nice. We popped into the kitchen side and ordered some food to-go after the "hostess" threw the single sheet menu cards at us. While our food was being prepped we grabbed at drink at the connected bar side and listened to some guys get real jacked up over video bowling while their requested Metallica songs dominated the juke box. Really an F- on the atmosphere and it screamed of a place that didn't want tourists posting up there during their stay which was odd since it's a 2 minute walk from about 5 resorts. Only redeeming qualities for this spot - margs were totally fresh and on point. The food we ordered was also really fresh and hit the spot. They could have a great thing going there but only way return is with some ear plugs and a hazmat suit.

I was so incredibly disappointed when I came here after being so excited for some good Mexican food and happy hour margaritas. Sadly to say my nachos were less than appetizing.... Now let's go onto the margarita..... That was decent for a happy hour margarita however when the bill came it was certainly not happy hour prices but $14 !!!!! I'm not sure if it was because we weren't locals or the bartender didn't like us but regardless I advise you go elsewhere and save your stomach and your wallet

We were craving Mexican food while visiting Maui, so we decided to drive to Ono Tacos after seeing the great Yelp reviews. The line was long and there was no seating available, so we ended up taking a gamble and going to Nachos Grande Cantina for dinner. The restaurant is definitely dive-y and dirty inside. We ordered the chicken nachos as an appetizer, and my husband ordered a burrito and I got a mahi mahi taco for dinner. The nachos were great, everything tasted fresh and delicious. My taco was alright, a little too fishy tasting and dry for my liking, but my husband enjoyed his burrito. I wish they offered free chips and salsa, I find it very odd to have to pay for chips and salsa when I'm so used to getting it free with a meal at most sit-down mexican restaurants on the mainland. Another thing to mention was that the tap water at the restaurant was pretty gross...so I recommend ordering a soda or a beer if you are thirsty, or bringing your own bottle of water. I don't think I would ever make a point to go back here, but if I ended up back at this restaurant in the future it wouldn't be a bad thing. The employees were all extremely friendly, and the nachos were flavorful and tasty.

Best Mexican food in Maui! It's like a little hole in the wall spot but the cheese enchiladas are amazing! And the guacamole is spot on. I would definitely come back to Maui just for this food.

I wish I could leave 6 stars. It's the perfect dive bar set up with amazing staff and generous pours. If you want to meet true locals, then look no further.

Horrible service. Unless you're Maui local you'll get treated like s**t. Don't waste your time or money (cash only)

Muy Muy Bueno! Under new management, Miguel (new owner and chef ) makes some very fine Mexican fare. Loved the prices, only $10 maximum for fresh and yummy authentic Mexican food. Loved the Chile Relleno & Enchilada combo with fried beans, spanish rice, guacamole and chill verde. Small family restaurant on one side and small bar on the other - eat on either side. Highly recommend for a very tasty deal in Kaanapali.

Open under new management, name of Miguel, who served us two good plates of Mexican food. We spent a total of $30 for two lunches and drinks. Miguel told us he just took over a few weeks ago after working elsewhere as a chef. The food was not from a can, despite a recent review. If you want a modestly priced, but fairly good, lunch near Kaanapali then I suggest you give this place a try.

Very nice staff here, we spoke to Miguel who is the cook and took our order. Simple menu, but the food was tasty and prepared well. Miguel also came out of the kitchen to talk with us and tell us more about the restaurant and bar. He was very kind and you could tell he enjoyed his work. We ate and hungout here, it is a dive bar but we felt very welcome and had a great experience. Thank you!

Well, this place is alright, but don't have high expectations! First, the furnishings are a bit on the "budget" side, and the table tops could stand a bit more attention, but the food is adequate. The portions are o.k., considering the relatively low cost per person and while the food isn't outstanding, it's tasty. With a drink, expect to pay $15 pp.

  • Tim B.

Horrible food, unless you enjoy Mexican food straight out of a can. Portions were pretty large and the guys were friendly and we didn't have drinks, so this is a food only rating. Seriously though, this is really bad Mexican food. I think the only time I've had worse is in the middle of Arkansas.

This place is bad. Bad, bad, bad. Their menu touts homemade recipes. We ordered the jalapeno poppers to start. They arrived on our table and we realized we had just paid $8 for 6 jalapeno poppers you buy at Costco. My top shelf margarita was weak. When the bill came the waitress made a mention of taking a dollar off for taxes, but the bill was about $5 too high. To top it off, the high chair was dirty and covered in mold and dirt. We decided to cut our losses and get out.

Terrible service, totally crowded, but a fun place to hang until the wee hours of the morning. Most definitely worth the stars I gave it!

So I'm feeling like a mid afternoon snack of something like a street taco and I'm heading to Kapalua and I see two taco joints on Yelp on Lower Hono ....... with 4 and 41/2 stars. So I turn off the hwy on Lower Hono...... and right away I see a taco place in the Times Market Center so I pull in. I should have looked at the name of the place or the address coz it was not either. BIG DUMB MISTAKE!! So I go in and look over the place and I think, this sure does not look like a 4 Star place even for Triple D. I look over the menu and no a la cart tacos, the man behind the counter tells me that he'll divide the 3 taco plate by 3 and for $5 he'll make me one taco. I order "spiced" ground beef and take a seat in the empty dining area. After awhile he brought me the furthest thing from a street taco. It was loaded with the blandest ground beef ever to be on a taco with lettuce, tomato, some cheese and a huge glob of American sour cream (no Mexican crema) ever to sit on a taco. It cooled the barely warm meat to cold. There was also a barely warm small side of beans that would make Rosarita canned beans seem like gourmet . So dumb me, I'm still wondering how this place gets 4 Stars til I drive out and see it's not Ono or Ohana tacos. OH SH.....! I looked both of them up the street away and will try them next time I get that street taco urge.

Soooooooooooooooooooo delicious! It doesn't look like much from the outside but the fish tacos were the best fish tacos we've ever had. The beer was cold, food was hot and everything was delicious! You know it's fantastic when the place is filled with locals. Don't judge a restaurant before eating their food. You'll be glad you stopped in!

Fast service at lunch hour. I HIGHLY suggest the chicken nachos. I'm from so cal so I'm accustomed to great mexican food, and these were some of the best nachos I've EVER had. The chef is very friendly and fast and sometimes brings the food out to you himself. Awesome little joint!!!

We went here without checking any reviews first because we were starving big mistake! They were out of guacamole I was told they were waiting for a delivery which makes me think the guacamole is probably prepackaged junk otherwise they would probably walk across the shopping center to the store for avocados instead of loosing a 6 dollar sale. They were also out of the draft beer we wanted and offered to sell us the more expensive bottled beer. The food was edible but just barely 3 out of 4 plates were cold and none of us finished. The prices were outrageous 6 bucks for stale chips and a tiny bowl of salsa come on?!?!? our waitress was kinda friendly but it mostly just felt like we were bothering her with our presence. Hopefully someone will read this and not make the same mistake we did. Save your money and your stomach and just skip this place You will be happy you did.

THIS WILL RUIN YOUR NIGHT & YOUR MAUI VACATION I WOULDN'T SEND MY WORST ENEMY THERE !!! OH Ya i ate there yesterday and the Guy behind the counter is UNCLEANLY The Food is DISGUSTING as the Man Used his SWEATY BARE HANDS ( Which he handles Money with ) To Toss a few Chips from another Basket into mine to complete my 1Taco Plate ! BUT The Kicker is that you have to order at the counter and then sit down . After you Pay , the Man says, " Go sit down & I'll bring you your change " ! BEWARE you Should ALWAYS GET YOUR CHANGE ASAP ! I ate my 1 taco and NOT the CHIPS ( i shouldn't even ate that it gave me the Runs ), waited and waited , until Finally i had to ask for my $4.50 change from 1 taco . he quickly grabbed my change and i put 50cents into the Counter Tip Jar and the man replies " OH GEE THANKS A LOT " ! if you don't see the wrong in the than maybe you might like eat there ALOHA

This place is a hidden gem! I was looking for a fun time in Maui and went through Yelp. After seeing previous, mixed reviews I thought I'd give this place a try and I'm glad I did!!! The staff is AMAZING, super friendly and the drinks are VERY affordable for Hawaii. I am definitely recommending this place to future Maui goers and you should definitely give it a try!!!!!

My family was staying at Aston Kaanapali Shores for a recent vacation when we visited Nachos Grande Cantina. We're from California - land of movie stars, legalized pot and, of course, relatively good Mexican food. With that said, we're definitely used to much better for waaaaay cheaper. $10 for a single hard taco and barely any sides of beans and a sparse offering of chips? outRAGEous. $8 for a burrito that didn't have any sour cream or guac? You've got to be kidding me... It was quite obvious the prices were jacked, but definitely way lower than many other tourist traps in the surrounding area. We didn't want to pay $30 per plate at the resort (not an exaggeration), so we bit the bullet and came here instead. The food itself was nothing memorable. Standard burrito, meh beans, meh rice. Although I love the sights and sounds of Hawaii, I think I'll stick to the mainland when it comes to Mexican food.

The only reason that I gave this place 2 stars was because the staff were nice and courteous. The food on the other hand was horrible - my carne asade burritio lacked flavor and even the rice and beans were bland. How do you ruin rice?! The burrito that I ordered didn't taste much better, the meat was dry and tough and there really wasn't much else to this burrito. If my fiance and I weren't so hungry we probably wouldn't have finished eating. And For the quality of the food it was really overpriced! I can honestly say that I would rather eat at a Taco Bell (and I hate Taco Bell).... This is the first and last time I patron this Cantina for food. When we were there they did have a New Ownership banner posted...so who knows maybe this place used to be decent. Anyways I think their saving grace is that they have a bar and its open late. Especially since this is the only bar in this area. This area is either considered to be Kahana or Honokowai, even though the address will state Lahaina! Keep in mind that from this location it takes about 15 - 20 min drive to Lahaina Main Street.

Cool little bar! Didn't eat, just got drinks but the service was great so was the atmosphere. Open later than anything else close by and the drinks were fair!

Under new management! The food is awesome and the chips and salsa are fresh, the gaucolmole is made to order! The staff was wonderful! The have a full service bar with great Margaritas, De-jay on Friday and Saturday nights. A great place to mingle with the locals and travelers from near and far. No complaints from anyone on our group, we will definitely go back before we leave.

We are staying across the street and didn't feel like driving to Whalers Village or Lahaina Main Street. We decided to try Nacho Grande Cantina. I have Celiac so everything has to be gluten free. I had the fish tacos which were made from Mahi Mahi. I'm from the DC/Baltimore metro area and fish tacos are always breaded and fried around us. It was great to have fish tacos that were fresh fish and not breaded and fried. When I let them know I couldn't have gluten, wheat, etc. they checked for me with the cook. I couldn't have the beans or beef. That was fine. I wanted the fish tacos. I got extra rice. Its nice to go out and not get sick from gluten. The cantina is a dive bar. It reminded me of a couple of bars I went to in Cabo San Lucas. I enjoyed my fish tacos. I will be going here before I go back to Maryland.

There's not that many casual Mexican food places on Maui, so we were happy to come across this tiny place. The food tastes fine, the people were nice, and the service was decent. The prices were your typical overpriced "near a resort" charge. I'm from Southern California, where there are Mexican restaurants on every other street. If this place was in So Cal, I think it's quality of food would be comparable to the other authentic joints around here. What's funny is that our server told us she's from our area too, and she misses the abundance of Mexican restaurants because of living in HI. If you're craving freshly cooked Mexican food on Maui, this might be a good place to start.

Dude. Why would you ever get food from this place and expect it to be good? It cracks me up that this place is called Nachos Grande just because nachos have to be one of the hardest food items to actually fuck up, but I would still NEVER order them from this place. Nachos Grande is strictly a the place to go get cheap, strong drinks late at night in Lahaina. That's it. Nothing else. I think it's one of the only (if not the only) bars on the entire island of Maui that is open until 2. For that reason, 4 stars.

  • Peter G.

Do not try this god awful place to eat!!! It is hands down thee worst food, service, cleanliness establishment i've seen on maui!!! First of all they did not even have ingredients like"meat" to make a burrito??? When my wife ordered the lady kept on giving dirty looks as if she was mad that she had to work. The young guy that was at the counter had the same crappy attitude. This place is a dive with a capital D!! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

  • R C.

Awful food! Don't eat here! The food was cold, over priced and super plain. You are better off going to Taco Bell. The only reason I gave it one star is for the little girl (11yrs) that waited on us. I don't know how this place is still in business. Yuck!

    (1)
  • Keith Y.

as of late this place has been ruined by a new owner take over (or rumor has it). not only is the food still mediocre which wasn't the reason for going there in the first place but they have completely decimated the late evening crowd of local restaurant workers...what a shame!

    (1)
  • Joseph O.

Nachos Grande. The food for lunch was Maui-cheap (read: Midwest expensive) and was decent. Nothing to write home about. If you're hungry for tacos, it'll do, but you should go north a few blocks and stop off at Ono Tacos instead. You'll spend about the same, maybe less, and be much more satisfied.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
