Keep the sugar content below 50g per meal at Jamba Juice and ensure that you don't follow it with a heavy meal. A small size regular smoothie is equivalent to a meal for everyone. I've had better. If you want banh mi, the Ba-Le in Rainbow Food Court at Maui Marketplace is wayyy better. The food at this one is... I don't know, different. It's just not up to par if you've had Vietnamese food before. I've even had stale banh mi from here once. Ew. The old owner was friendlier, the new one is kind of mean. O well. I'd rather drive to Kahului or Wailuku to get the better stuff.

Quick bite to eat, we got the pork sandwich and the beef to go. I liked the beef much more. Great lemongrass flavor and lots of goodies inside the freshly baked bread. We also got a croissant and water. i think it was $15 for everything ;) Would definitely recommend it!

My wife really likes the sandwiches there....I don't care for pretty much anything there....but for those of you who like Vietnamese food this is your spot. It is one of the few places that is still at the Cannery Mall since I last visited here two years ago....so I guess that's saying something....LOL...Eat, Drink, and Be Merry my Friends!!!!!

The pho is bad but the sandwich are OK. The manapua is actually pretty good, probably one of the best one on the island I've tried; sandwich and manapua makes good and cheap picnic food.

  • Matt A.

Had the Ba-La pork sandwich, pho with chicken, shrimp rolls and Thai iced tea. Food was good and more expensive than my hometown (San Diego) but this is Maui. Thai tea could have had more condensed milk but overall good meal for family for around $26.

In the food court and so not a dining out "experience" however everytime I'm in Lahaina I eat there at least once as their pho is pretty good. Fast and friendly service and fair priced.

Cashier is never welcoming and never smile. She seems irritated. Smaller portion of food compared to many Vietnamese restaurants.

Vietnamese sandwiches and Vietnamese dishes are ok here at Ba Le in Maui (honestly, can't compete with any Vietnamese sandwiches store or fast food in California). We stopped by two different locations, and they all located in the food court area in the mall. Surprisingly, there was a different in prices. For just a bread, one store would sell for $89 cents and $1.24 cents at another store.

  • Andrew P.

Pho rare steak is good... But the portion size is small. The service is ok, just be mindful there's a sassy chunky young lady at the counter. Also buying a croissant ala cart or French bread is not an option. That's why the 3 stars.

Who would have thought there could be half-decent food in a shopping mall. For the most part, Lahaina Cannery Mall has been almost barren, but in the past year, things have been getting better. Besides L&L, there is Ba-Le that serves decent bahn mi's and the like. You order at the counter, and wait for about 5 minutes for your order to be called. Ba-Le's Pork Sandwich (Bahn Mi) for $5.50 contains Vietnamese style cold cuts of thinly sliced pork, pickle, daikon, carrot, onion, parsley, cucumber, and homemade mayonnaise. You can order it on French bread, which is similar to the typical bahn mi bread, or a Croissant (add an additional $0.75 to price for Croissant). I got it on a French baguette-like bread. Although the bread was not as airy and crisp as bahn mi bread, it was pretty close. The bread is just a bit denser. All the vegetables were crisp and fresh. For the price, it's on the high side, but if you're craving a bahn mi, it'll get the job done, but don't expect to be amazed. It's worth checking out if you want a quick bite, but don't plan on a lunch or dinner here if you're only visiting the island. There are much better places to try in the short period of time you're spending in Maui.

After waking up at 5 am, flying from SFO to Maui and finding our way to the Lahaina Safeway for food supplies for our stay, my boyfriend and I realized we were hungry NOW!! Still delirious from flying and disoriented from being on Maui for the first time, we stumbled on this place in the Cannery Mall. Was it fine dining or a place I'd go out of my way for? Well, no, but for a spontaneous stop it does the trick. I got the fresh Tofu spring rolls and they were flavorful and generously portioned along with peanut dipping sauce. My boyfriend enjoyed his lemon grass chicken sandwich. Cheap, fresh, and quick. Perfect for a quick stop before checking in to our hotel. Who would have thought Ba-Le would be my first meal on Maui?

Living in So. Cal, you get really spoiled about your Vietnamese food. Come to this place if you feel the need for something that is passable for Vietnamese. If you can wait and head back to Cali for your Vietnamese in San Jose or in the LA area, I'd wait. Their vermicelli is slightly tough and their meat was a bit on the salty side. Their pho was OK but nothing to write home about. They ran out of pate for their sandwich which made their sandwich a little odd. I would say that most of it is passable but doesn't compare to So. Cal. One thing to definitely NOT get is their dessert. They've been over refrigerated and the texture isn't quite right, especially the bean with coconut cream on top. They have to reheat it and it just isn't the same.

Not too bad! The bf & I stopped here because we were starving getting to the hotel...the shrimp rolls were AWESOME, my teriyaki beef...well not too sure it was beef but my ass still ate it & it was ok. Little hairy, stringy...whatev's The bf had the pulled pork sarnie & thought it very good. I'd go back.

Went to Maui on vacation and while shopping in Lahaina for souvenirs, was hungry for a fresh tasty bite to eat. Ordered the short ribs plate with rice, the lady in line before us highly recommended the taro pudding, so we got that too. The short ribs were flavorful and delicious. I'm not a fan of rubbery fat on my meat, I usually trim it all off of my steaks. In this case, the fat had been nearly burned off during the grilling process, leaving only a savory coating of buttery fat on the edges, yum. The taro pudding was simple and comforting, in the way you might enjoy simple home foods like PB&J or mac and cheese. We stopped here multiple times during our stay in Maui and also enjoyed the bun cha gio (rice vermicelli with imperial/egg rolls), pork sandwiches, and iced coffee. The food is fresh, healthy, and cheap. The owner is charming. What's more to love?

for food court food, pretty darn good. now granted, it's definitely food i can get back home, but hey, L&Ls are all over the place anyway. i was satisfied, but not completely blown away, nor completely disgusted.

Compared the Vietnamese restaurants in NYC, Ba Le was somewhat of a disappointment. The pho did not meet the quality of what I usually get at home. Ban mi sandwich was good but bread somewhat too hard. Compared to the other choices in the mall, a solid choice for fast food. Menu very wide selection.

I read about the good review about this on my third trip to Maui. I have always eaten at the tourist place before. This time, I decided to try the local eateries. Came here and wanting to try some pho. I was expecting the size to be the same as the ones back in Los Angeles. Saw a few orders of the noodle and decided it wasn't worth it. I did tried the banh mi and they were very good. The french bread was as fresh as back home. The only difference is the price. A simple banh mi here is $5 comares to $3 in LA. Anyhow, for a quick fix, can't beat the price (for Maui) and the tasty/crusty french bread.

On our first night staying at Royal Lahaina hotel, we drove to a nearby Safeway to get some water and wine. It was still early so we went into a small shopping mall next door and voila, we saw a Vietnamese fast food place in the food course section. We ordered PHO and bun thit nuong. The PHO cam out in a small styrofoam bowl with a little bean sprout on the side. The both were surprisely flavorful and good. The bun thit nuong, on the other hand, tasted like NOT bun thit nuong. the meat tasted weird and nuong nam tasted bad. If you come here, stay away from their bun thit nuong, but do try their PHO. Also, their mi xao gion (crispy pan fry noodle) is not that good either. Didn't have time to try their banh mi, but it's supposed to be Ba Le specialty.

I had my sights on this place even before we decided to eat here. It has BOBA!!! Another place to add to my boba list! Ok, well, we were looking for lunch but knew we needed to hit the Longs Drugs and Safeway so it seemed logical to just check out the food court. I knew a pearl/bubble drink was on the menu and realized that they had pho. A done deal. I ordered the chicken pho which I add all the jalapeos, a huge squirt of siracha, and hoisin sauce to. The bowl was huge and it was so good and very fresh. Steve ordered a pork noodle bowl. The pork was so good. The bowl was really big and I think he enjoyed it. He finished the whole thing. I got a mango boba/bubble drink. The pearls were pretty good. Not perfect, but not crunch or slimey. Both of us thought it was pretty good. Thanks to MalteseMomm A, I now know there is another place on the island and will have to have a boba there too. There just aren't very many boba choices here on Maui, so I have to set out to try them all. The staff at this place were very nice, very helpful and really seemed happy to be doing what they do. I always appreciate that. And I highly recommend this place for a good casual meal while you are shopping or even just stopping by.

Sometimes we just have a craving for bahn mi (Vietnamese hoagies). Since we were staying in the west side of Maui, we were very happy to learn that there was a Ba-Le in the Canery Mall, so that we didn't have to drive all the way back to the airport area to do our hoagie run. However, these bahn mi were a bit disappointing--too dry, the pickeled veggies were not tangy, the bread was too doughy and not crisp. Another person in our party who skipped on the bahn mi and ordered a noodle dish instead, really liked her dish. But, the below par bahn mi combined with the slow service has us recommending that you try someplace else.

  • Paul G.

Ba-Le There are 2 of these in Maui, one by the airport in a weird food court by Barnes and Noble, and One in the food court of the mall by the Safeway on Front Street in Lahaina. I have eaten at both. the last time we went to Maui, we had a no frills flight and drove straight to Ba-Le from the airport!! Its tasty and cheap(for the island) Vietnamese food. the Bun is good and the shrimp rolls were good, we usually eat here several times in one trip.

  • rosa S.

Based on the reviews, had my hopes up for a good Vietnamese Sandwich. Was gravely disappointed with the results of our combination order. There was barely any cilantro or pickled carrots/daikon and very little meat and too much bread. We went to the one closer to the airport which is 10x better for the Vietnamese sandwiches. While waiting for the order, I caught a glimpse of some kitchen staff on little crates shaving a crate loads of carrots and daikon. Now that's fresh! We brought our sandwiches onto the plane (incidentally we were re-routed due to the ATA fiasco/nightmare) and was pleasantly surprised by the vast difference in quality and freshness of ingredients. YUM YUM! So, if you're an island regular or a regular visitor, I recommend going to the Airport location over this place.

It was hard to find this place. I knew the address but didn't know it was in the Lahaina Cannery Mall! My daughters, ages 10 and 12 shared the combo plate--beef, chicken and pork with macaroni sald and rice. They liked it. The pork was the best. I had a tofu sandwich (I'm vegetarian). I'd never had a tofu sandwich before and thought I'd try it. The texure with the tofu and bread was weird. I ended up pulling out the tofu and rolling it around the pickled vegetables and eating it that way. The best thing about the meal though, was that a free ukelele lesson was going on right by the food court during our dinner. We enjoyed watching that (we were too late to join), and then it was time for a free children's hula show, so we stayed to watch that, too.

This place is in the food court at the Cannery Mall. Came here while on vacation because we had a milk tea craving. The milk tea was NOT GOOD. We ordered four and they were watered down, obviously made from a powder mix, and the boba had a weird consistency. If we ever come back here it would be to try the sandwiches, but we will stay away from the milk tea! My one star is for that terrible milk tea. I can't say anything for the food because we only stopped here because we wanted boba. If you come here, check to see if they have currently have a coupon in the mall magazine.

  • Tou L.

For a food court place, it is good. Tons of selection to choose from, but I opted for the pho. It was surprisingly good! The noodles texture was a bit blah, but the broth was good. I came back later in the week and got a sandwich and boba...I got the special sandwich, I forgot what it was, but there was something in it that did not sit well with my taste buds. Like someone said earlier, stay away from the "boba." took them like 10 seconds to make and was not good at all.

Fantastic service by the older gentlemen and when we asked him what was his favorite on the menu he had too many answers for us. We ended up picking the ribs and they came out sizzling and the flavor was very tasty. We ended up going to Ba-Le about 3 or 4 times on our week vacation and enjoyed everything we had. If you are doing your shopping in the Lahaina mall you have to check this place out! Its right in the middle of the food court.

I have been to like 4 different locations and the Lahaina one is my favorite! I always get the number 19 veggie noodles! Super yummy and every time I let my friends or family have a bite they end up buying one for themselves! I have been going there for probably over 10 years and I love the food!

Great cheap eats, perfect for quick lunch or takeout or just grabbing a mellow dinner. Love the pho soup they pile Thai basil with it n offer it with a combo with spring rolls on the side, we do chicken or the rare steak. The teri beef plate is pretty good as well and they're known for great sandwiches- I like the lemongrass chicken. I have pho here once a week if not more, one serving feeds myself and my pre-schooler for ten bucks! Cant go wrong there. Also have bubble teas you can ask for one without those weird gelatin balls in the bottom I dont personally care for them and I was pleased the cashier offered me the option! She usually remembers my order, I get extra cilantro and a bowl to split the soup between my daughter and I and it's nice that she remembers how to set me up. Also theres a hula show certain days of the week so you can enjoy a little entertainment those nights as well. Definitely worth checking out for a no fuss, affordable and delicious lunch or dinner.

The food is pretty good and they have a large menu to choose from, that and it's pretty much the only place to get Pho from on the Westside. The best part about eatin here is talkin story with Uncle Mike. Sometimes I wouldn't even order food, I would just come and kill some time while I did deliveries for work. If you go here don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with Mike, he's the man.

We went shopping at the lahaina Cannery mall, and then we got this urge to eat Vietnamese sandwich and there you go we found one , its Ba Le Vietnamese food, located in the mall's food court, people are lining up so we thought it must be good and it is good. The only thing i notice is that the lady in the cashier should smile more. She has a lot of reason to smile because she is one of the busiest vendor in that court. My overall experience is good.

  • Kora T.

It's a Vietnamese joint with sandwiches, soups and appetizers. We were craving pho so we thought we'd give it a try. The broth was good, but the noodles seemed old. It was slightly hard and they were short and broken. Will have to try a different place for pho next time.

  • Kristan D.

Was craving vietnamese food while on vacation and decided to try this little food court restaurant out. It is located inside of the Lahaina Cannery Mall. Ordered the char siu fried and two banh mi combination to go. YUMMY. A bit on the pricey side for us main landers ($6.85 for banh mi and $9 for fried rice, but hey its maui.

    (4)
  • Chow L.

You could tell this is a locals spot but $5 for a combo banh mi is a bit steep. I guess with the lack of competition they can charge whatever they like. The bread was fresh and cooked on-premises but the picked veg was limp and not very pickled. They also forgot to put paté. It was a nice easy lunch on the Road to Hana but the bay area does it way betta for cheapa.

  • Steve T.

Average typical local lunch place for Asian food. You order at the counter which shares the same owner as the L & L booth next door. I had saimim on a styrofoam large cup which was just meh. The locals gather here and it is fun to be around nice happy people enjoying their comfort food together.

    (2)
  • Mimay W.

They make a great pho soup - amazing comfort food, especially when you're under the weather and need hot soup. They packed up the basil, bean sprouts, and chili nicely for my 'to go' bag. Took care to tape the containers up so that they don't accidentally spill. The chicken pieces were good too, no skin. The noodle itself was just ok. maybe because I had it 'to go', it was congealed a bit. I also tried the taro tapioca, and it was addictive. I'm trying the banh mi (sandwich) and spring roll next time.

    (4)
  • Greg C.

Don't come here if you're looking for boba! The drink is watery and the tapioca pearls are rubbery.

Towards the end of our vacation in Maui, we were craving less fancier, cheaper, and tastier food. Something you won't find at alot of the tourist traps. That's were Ba-Le came in. Ba-Le is actually a vendor at the Cannery Mall's food court (I believe it was across from the Old Lahainia Luau). We had rich delicious Pho. So good. and the owner was pretty nice too. We also took some Vietnamese sandwiches called Bahn Mi on our 'road to hana' trip. On our first visit to Ba-Le, the Bahn Mi were already sold out, so when we came to get sandwiches for our Hana trip, we made sure to come early. Make sure you do too. review 2/3/08 I.M.Y.

Being a vegetarian, this is the only place in Lahaina that truly cooks vegetarian entrees, with vegetable stock and it's own frying pan. Most places will use the same pan they cook other meat dishes in. Wide variety of vegetarian dishes and food is great. Locally owned business that treats their clients with Aloha!!

I had the teriaki steak. The service was friendly, the price was a little steep - none of that would have mattered except the steak was burnt - I mean bits of charcoal meet on it. My wife and daughter sampled the L&L Drive In two counters over and had a good experience.

I remembered going to this place years ago and was happy to see they are still around. They have limited hours - pretty much confined to breakfast and lunch hours. We were there to grab morning food. If you are looking for the perfect malasada, don't look here. Try to find a place where you can get it warm, like Home Maid Bakery. The chocolate croissant, however, was flaky and yummy. We also got a bread pudding, a bit rich for breakfast but wonderfully creamy and delicious. It would have made a better mid-morning or afternoon snack with a good cup of coffee. Next time, we'll know to save it for later
