I agree with LB from PA. The place looks unkempt and the linens threadbare. The landscaping needed help and there was "stuff" strewn about. The photos look good...but in real life it's the pits!!

Everyone has a vacation style. Some folks require plush accommodations in big resorts. Others are content to tent it up and literally camp out wherever they may land, should they bring their gear. For me, a vacation is about experience first and foremost. Experiencing the city/town, the natural beauty, the food, the people, and what's truly local... that's where it's at. There's a time and a place for a spa and a television, but for me, that's not on vacation. For this reason, I'm not a big resort-type person. I prefer clean, comfortable and modest accommodations, generally speaking. Old Lahaina House provided just that; this small 'inn' of sorts is part hostel, Airbnb rental, and bed and breakfast... though to be clear no breakfast is provided. This family-run joint with maybe 5 rooms total (?) is just far enough from town that it feels secluded. Super close to the beach and super chill, however, it's close enough to town to be convenient. There's a small pool in the communal patio area, and a grill and small fridge are available for you to use in the same shared space. The owner (ohmygosh I'm blanking on her name) was thoughtful, kind, and provided us with a number of recommendations and some sound advice re: the area. If you're not into cut and copy resort-type complexes, shopping, and boring food, Old Lahaina's for you. I recommend renting a bike from Boss Frog's to make the trek to and from town a little shorter and lot breezier; snag some provisions from the local Foodland (surprisingly good poke!) and sit back, relax, and take it all in. This humble and cozy yet lovely spot did us more than fine while enjoying our first few nights on Maui, and we'd definitely return!

Everything we wanted and more! Beautiful location close to the beach, close to downtown, etc.... The rooms were clean and the hosts were incredibly nice! Shari was more than accommodating and even gave us a miniature tour of lahaina on our first day. And, you can't beat the price! I will be returning. Mike -from Chicago!

My two friends and I (21 year old girls) went to Maui and stayed here at this lovely place! We had a great time and the owner and the staff were so friendly and helpful (we were recommended great places to eat nearby)! It was only 200 steps from my bed to the beach (across the street) and only about 10-15 minutes walk to the cosy town of Lahaina. My friend said she felt like a princess waking up in the bed she had! We also had a lot of fun in the pool and our room was clean with a tv, mini fridge, microwave, plates, silverware, glasses and towels (both for the shower and then also for the beach) etc. And also good wifi! We had our own key and our own entrance to the room (which was next to the pool area). A great place to stay and it's awesome for a nice, quiet vacation.

My husband and I stayed at the Old Lahaina House for a week and it was quite good. We were in the mountain room and truth be told, the view of the mountain is nice. Even though it wasn't ready when we got there, the room was clean, well equipped with fridge, coffee maker, iron, plates and cutlery. Basically all you need for a comfortable stay. On the downside, the mattress and pillows were a disaster. This may not apply to everyone, but for us, who are used to harder sleeping surfaces, it took a while to adjust to them. Also, the wifi signal was very weak in our room. The computer managed to pick it up, but the phones kept losing connection. We talked to the owners about it and they blamed the thick walls which hindered the signal. Anyway, the beach access is across the street (where you can see a nice sunset, when it's not too cloudy), downtown Lahaina is just a nice walk away and there is plenty of parking. So yeah, we'd recommend it.

Are you off to Maui? Trying to stay away from the expensive resorts in Wailea and Kapalua? Want to veer away from the crazy Timeshare Resorts of Ka'anapali? Stay in Lahaina! A few minutes walk away from the Lahaina Town Centre, Old Lahaina House is the "idyllic" setting for your journey into Maui. Behind the house, past the gate, walk the corridor to access the sandy beach for a relaxing view of the sea. Inside, the rooms are very clean with A/C, iron, mini-fridge, small TV and a nice bathroom. We stayed at the Double Palms with its 2 twin beds and I am amazed at the size of the room. I did not have to be squeezed in like in the rooms of boutique business hotels. Next trip, I would be eyeing one of the suites with a balcony. Sherri and her family are beautiful! Had a blast chatting with the sons. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay the night at a budget (Maui Pricing) and not break the bank, this fits the bill. The town itself is so close and the shops close to each other you don't have to walk miles and miles to search for deals or places to eat like in Kihei. I found out that Sherri had other properties, some beach front... may want to try those the next trip. If you are into luxury, maid service, paying a lot of money for rooms a night and enslaving the rest of the population for your own enjoyment, this is not a place for you. Choose Ka'anapali or Wailea instead. Pros: Easy going, secure, friendly family, reasonable rates, close to Lahaina, not boring, very close to the beach, no hotel staff to worry about. Cons: Could not think of anything. We slept there, put our stuff there, chatted with the family for quite a bit and made our journey into the four corners of Maui, in and out. Choose the Balcony Suites on the Ground Floor or Top Floor, nice view and a place to relax. Of course, you have the pool if you don't have a room with a balcony... you'll just be the one stared at by the people with a balcony!

These place was very cool. It is a regular house just outside Lahaina, so everything is within walking distance. The beach out front is really nice too. There is a ton of coral about 300 yards north and the waves were decent. The people working here are very friendly and there is a pool that is noice to relax in between trips to the town and the beach. I stayed in the poolside suite. I would recommend this place. They do not serve breakfast or any other food here.

Yikes. Not sure where the other reviewers stayed, but we were not too thrilled about the accommodations here. Sure, it's about a block from the beach and a 10-15 minutes' walk to touristy Lahaina, and the owners are definitely nice. But when you first walk up it looks like a family of total slobs lives on the first floor--not a great first impression for a little former B&B. The room was clean (in fact, the cleaners were still there when we came to check in, even though they had us confirm our arrival time twice) and there was an iron, cooler, tv, and mini fridge included. But the next door neighbors had a party each night we were there, with music blasting and girls screaming through the night. When I went to the office to complain at 8am, you could feel the bass pounding inside, but the owner acted like she had no idea. Also, we never got a room key during our entire stay (had to leave our stuff unlocked all day), and I found a cockroach in my shoe one morning when I went to put it on. Not pleasant. And definitely not worth the $130/night. I know Maui'a expensive, but do yourself a favor and book something (else) early!

Eh, you get what you pay for. I'm a sucker for places with character and this place is somewhat out there. Close access to the beach, not too far a walk to the center of Lahaina, and somewhat eccentric staffers. Honestly, this is sort of the same criteria I used to choose where I currently live, which may explain why I live in a 150 year old house housed by tenants who all believe in ghosts. Rooms were very clean and the air conditioning was excellent. Look, I only look for a few things in a place: air conditioning, the luxury of being left alone, and wifi, and honestly if the wifi reached my room so I didn't have to go down to the pool and actually get some sunlight while in Hawaii this would be a five.

I agree with a lot of what the prior reviewer said. This is a nice, clean place to stay with a good location to walk into the strip in Lahaina. The staff is all very nice and it is very affordable for Maui. They also have a small pool that is clean and free wifi. This place is obviously not for everyone. If you are looking for the honeymoon experience or the luxury of Maui, this place is not for you. If you are looking for a low cost, clean place to stay, with an atmosphere that is very social, this place is for you. Everyone from the guests, to the staff and owners are going to make you feel welcome and crack up a chat. If that style is you, this is just the place to go. Major positives: Location, cleanliness, super comfy bed, great a/c, friendly staff slight negatives: It is an old building so noise can flow in/out of the room easy, if you have pet allergies there are dogs that live here, the wife got stuffy inside. Overall we really liked this place and would definitely return if we get back to Maui again. I also recommend contacting well in advance, this place can book quickly. The owner does also have other properties. One is a beachside house that you can rent entirely that sleeps quite a few. So if you travel in groups, give them a call and rent the house out. It's a great deal

I have to say this place is amazing. I had no complaints. It is a 1 min walk to the beach. And they own two other amazing properties on the beach.
