If I could live here, I would do it and happily gain 100 lbs. Not sure why I didn't bother trying Lappert's until the 2nd to last day. I vowed to come back again that night after dinner but I was way too full. We had the white chocolate macadamia nut and roasted banana salt caramel in the waffle cup. SOOO GOOD! I'll see you again soon, Lappert's. Hopefully...

I love this location since it's air conditioned and has self serve water but I've gone there and ordered a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream to receive a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream with no pieces of macadamia nuts. In all my life of eating Lappert's during the summer have I ever received a scoop of macadamia nuts with no pieces macadamia nuts. Their macadamia nut ice cream always has actual pieces of macadamia nuts. It was absurd. Maybe it was the way the ice cream guy scooped the ice cream or that the tub wasn't a good tub or that it was just bad luck. Who knows.

So yummy! Luckily we were only in Kauai for 3 days or else we surely would have gained a ton of weight from eating here. Everyday we stopped in to grab some of their delicious ice cream! My first ice cream was White Chocolate Macadamia Nut. This was definitely rich. There were bits of white chocolate throughout the ice cream. Couldn't really taste the macadamia but mouthwatering nonetheless. If you want something lighter, I recommend Auntie Lilikoi's Passion Fruit Sorbet and Hayden Mango Sorbet. I had this for breakfast on the last day, haha. Whatever you decide on, definitely get it in the waffle cone. They are freshly made and come on, waffle cone tastes better than a cup ;) For all you San Diegan, do not mistaken this Lappert's for the one in SD. We did some research and they are NOT the same.

Can I just say WOW! Great quality ice cream. The coconut ice cream with tons of shredded coconut was delicious! It tasted like coconut cream pie. I also got some kind of caramel, peanut butter cup, cashew flavor that was bursting with flavor. Glad I tried this place at the end of my vacation, otherwise all my meals would have consisted of ice cream.

Delicious Hawaiian ice cream. Lots of classic and Hawaiian inspired flavors. I got the Heavenly Hana (creamy chocolate ice cream with swirls of marshmallow, chunks of white chocolate covered macadamia nuts , dark chocolate almond chunks, chocolate bits, and roasted almonds). In a waffle cone of course. Not super cheap but even one scoop was a hefty portion.

The best ice cream we've ever had....hands down! I wanted to take my wife here every night....unfortunately she didn't go for it.....shucks!

Stopped at two different locations when on Kauai. The first time we got the roasted banana salt caramel and it was great. The second time I should have sampled the White Chocolate Macadamia before I bought it because it was a bit bland. The one downside is the high price for one scoop. Ah the price of paradise!

An island staple. Delicious fresh old-fashion style ice cream with amazing hawaiian flavors. I love their Kaua'i Pie: Kona coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge. Go in for a scoop, and if you're there for a while don't forget to use a stamp card to get a free ice cream after your 10th visit. Pro tip: Any of their ice cream can be made into a milkshake which is amazing, and they'll even let you choose multiple flavors for one milkshake.

Great service! Very quick, nice, and attentive employees here! The ice cream is as always delicious!

Oh Lappert's...how I wish you existed in the East Coast. This is probably some of the best ice cream/sorbets I've ever tried. It's so good, we went 2 days in a row. Their Kauai pie ice cream flavor is delicious. As my brother-in-law put it, it's like an ice cream sundae in a scoop--Kona coffee ice cream, chocolate fudge, macadamia nuts and coconut flakes. It's a party in your mouth. Try it with a waffle cone. I usually prefer wafer cones, but their waffle cones are homemade and too good to pass up. My husband ordered their mango sorbet. It's ridiculously fresh and you can taste the chunks of their delicious local mango in it. So divine! One more thing I highly recommend is their chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie. It's the perfect amount of chewy and soft, and the crunch from the macadamia nuts makes it perfect. I wish I had their recipe so I can make this at home!

We went here twice on our vacation. Once for ice cream and once for a morning pastry. Ice cream was delicious. Very rich and creamy. My husband and I shared a two scoop and it was plenty. For our pastry, we chose the cinnamon roll. Huge and fluffy. Strong cinnamon taste but overall over it! Very sweet staff too!

Lapperts the best ice cream anywhere by far. We love this place ! The ice cream is so fresh here.

  • Lori N.

Phenomenal ice cream! Super creamy & rich ice cream that comes in all the local favorite flavors - macadamia nuts, coconut, kona coffee, passion fruit, etc... Definitely get one of these local flavors because you won't be able to find them easily on the mainland & they are delicious!! You really can't go wrong here. Like many others have said, it's kind of pricey here ($3.95 for a single scoop) but the scoops are large. Tip: If there's 2 of you, get a double scoop ($5.95) rather than 2 single scoops, save yourself $2! Even better, put it in a waffle bowl ($1) & share so you can try 2 flavors. If you really can't decide, get the "I can't decide" which is 5 half scoops in a waffle bowl ($7.95). Best part, aside from the delicious ice cream, is that it's open late (11pm). So while the rest of the island is asleep, you can be eating ice cream!!

We stopped in for ice cream after an afternoon's adventure that included our car's battery dying in the parking lot at Kukui Grove shopping center in Lihue. After a long wait the guy from the car rental company's road service came and jumped the battery. He advised us to trade the car in since there was major corrosion on the battery terminal and since we were near the Thrifty site, we went over and took care of it. It was done quickly and professionally and we were on our way w/ a shiny new Altima w/ half the miles the previous car had had. On our way back to Poi'pu Alan suggested a stop at Lappert's. He went in, got ice cream for himself and a tiny, but generous scoop of chocolate macadamia nut for me. It was a tasty treat that took the edge off the afternoon's events.

  • Erin Y.

It's good quality ice cream but the value is iffy. The Kauai pie flavor was delish but the single scoop was a tiny $4 portion. They have a size smaller in the keiki (kids) scoop, but I wonder if that's even possible with how small the regular single scoop is. They also have a nice selection on the menu like affogato and the baked goods looked fantastic. Anyway, a trip to Lappert's is a must in Hawaii, but I wouldn't come more than once for an ice cream cone. You can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

  • Emma T.

Amazing ice cream with a great variety of Hawaiian flavors. I had Tutu's anniversary (coconut ice cream, raspberry sorbet, passion fruit sorbet) and it was delicious. It can be a little expensive but is definitely worth it. It is also easy to be overwhelmed when you first walk in and staff isn't overly friendly with offering samples, but if you ask they will let you try any flavor you want. Don't over look the baked goods. We got a few macadamia nut shortbread cookies dipped in dark chocolate and they were to die for also.

    (4)
  • Erik A.

They have creative Hawaiian flavors, but the taste is dreyer's-like. For the price, a store bought Haagen Dazs pint competes with Lapper's. I went there twice and had the Oreo choc cookie, Mac nut, Java, and mud pie (can't remember official names)

As long as we have been coming to Kauai, we have gone to Lappert's for great ice cream. in fact, we have always gotten a card to work our way toward a free cone, and over the years we have had 2 free! Back we came with an almost filled out card to continue our Lappert's love affair. We went twice to this location, once after a hike and once after diving. They still had lots of different flavors tho at one end of the freezer they had a lot of chocolate themed choices and the other end coconut and coffee themed flavors. Double scoops are $5.95 and we always have them in their on-site freshly made waffle cones ($1 extra). My spouse had the Coconut Caramel Macademia and the Mauna Kea, which is vanilla ice cream with raspberry sorbet, brownie and chocolate chunks, both of which he enjoyed. I had the Kona Lava Java, coffee ice cream with chocolate sorbet and the Coconut Caramel Macademia. In my opinion, there wasn't enough coconut or caramel in my second scoop, but the Lava Java was great After an all day dive, we went out to dinner and then ordered two fresh baked cookies ($1.65 each), chocolate chip macadamia nut and white chocolate chip macadamia nut, for another day. (great tasting cookies, soft and chewy) This time I had a double scoop in a waffle cone of Auntie Lilikoi's Passionfruit Sorbet and Caramel Cashew Turtle Cluster, both absolutely delicious! The sorbet was tangy and refreshing, while the Cluster had lots of caramel. My spouse ordered the Cluster as well, and then tried the Coconut Pineapple, a very nice combo. While Lappert's is certainly not inexpensive for ice cream, considering that we are in a tourist location and they make their flavors and the waffle cones, the prices aren't actually unreasonable.

Hawaii classic. Delicious, local ice cream!! All the flavors are solid, but take a leap and go for one of the wild concoctions!!

On vacation in Kauai in the Koloa area, we were delighted to come across a Lappert's Hawaii ice cream location. This was a must stop, as we have been fans of Lappert's from their Sausalito, California location. Sure enough my wife's favorite Kauai Pie ice cream was here - and how fun to enjoy it straight from the Kauai source! We also loved their Chillers, especially the Kauai Pie one. Very nice, modern interior, much better than the Sausalito location. It's wonderful to get out of the heat and cool off in their air-conditioned environment. Tip: if you are coming back a few times, get the Lappert's ice cream card that they will stamp with every purchase. After 10 purchases you get a free ice cream! We stopped here a couple times, and my only Kauai regret is not getting here more before leaving!

  • John P.

Best ice cream in hawaii in my opinion. I really enjoyed the Hawaiian inspired ice creams they serve. Anything with macadamia nuts was my favorite. Their kona coffee flavor as good too. If your visiting the Hawaiian islands you definitely have to check out lapperts at least once. I also liked how this location is open pretty late.

    (5)
  • Joel C.

Ice cream aside, their service here is terrible. Wife and daughter waiting in line and staff completely ignoring them, serving other customers that cut in front of us. Pretty disorganized and frustrating. Next time we're doing shaved ice instead.

    (1)
  • Jennifer T.

Love, love this place. The favors are amazing and so unique. Not only do they have glove cream, but they have gelato and sorbets in island fruit flavor a like pineapple and guava. The staff is so pleasant and they're open until 10pm - a rarity for Kauai.

    (5)
  • Marilyn A.

The best ice cream I ever had! The owner, Mary, creates her own receipes and uses only the best products, no short cuts here. I love the beautiful, clean store and every person that works there serves with Aloha. For those that are early risers, Lapperts is one of the only stores openin the area, serving great coffee and pastries. So perfect to grap a coffee and walk to the beach from the shopping center.

    (5)
  • Anne G.

So good! I got a pint yesterday of two flavors (half Kauai Pie and half chocolate macadamia nut). The service is fast and they let you sample the flavors. A few nights ago I got two scoops of chocolate macadamia nut and regular macadamia nut which was also a really good combo. I can't wait to go back.

  • Hema K.

If you are walking around Kukui`ula shopping center, the smell of freshly made waffle cones will drive you to Lappert's. So many yummy choices with signatures ones (which is a must try even if you just want to sample them). Bit pricey but doesn't matter for the freshly made waffle cones. They have reward card (for every 10 purchases you get the 11th free for any size ice cream). They are open late and huge advantage for tourists who can stop by after traveling the entire day.

  • Katherine C.

Delicious, local, fresh ice creams and sorbets in a WIDE variety of flavors. We are always looking for dairy-free options due to my husband's food allergy, and this place has several desserts that fit the bill. The coconut-passion fruit sorbet is amazing. My friends tried the raspberry sorbet and loved it; this flavor is fat-free. Flavors are very rich, so a small is pretty much all that is needed. Stopped by here a few days later, and my husband had the raspberry sorbet (loved), and I had the vanilla ice cream (amazing). Friendly staff. Clean clean clean. Plenty of seating inside and outside. Located in the trendy shopping village, smack-dab in the middle so that you cannot miss it when walking off your lunch or dinner. Go at night and sit outside on a bench beneath the lamps suspended from the large trees...so romantic. I believe they are open until 10PM, which is later than a lot of places in Koloa.

  • Miriam P.

The ice cream was delicious. A bit pricey, but the ice cream was so good, it softened the blow to the wallet.

  • Corrinne L.

Conveniently located in the middle of Kukui'ula. I walked past this little parlor several times while traversing this upscale mall. After the third pass, I caved under the wafting smell of freshly baked waffle cones and walked in. Hardly any waiting time. Ordered an Affogato with a scoop of Kauai Pie and espresso. It came topped with Mac nuts, whipped cream and a generous piece of waffle. All so reasonably priced at $5.75. Lapperts never disappoints!

    (4)
  • Mona L.

Tasted good ice cream wise but the waffle cones were so stale! Granted I was there at night but that should not matter. It was also super busy and really took away from the experience for me and the kids. I find the experience part of why you go and pay so much more than a grocery store! The lady helping us could not be more annoyed at my kids wanting to try a flavor, which also took away from the experience. I would go back if I am in the area but I would rather find somewhere else. Pink's in Hanelei is AMAZING and tastes homemade.

    (3)
  • Adrienne M.

Good, but a little overhyped. The ice cream was tasty but not life-changing and their caramel macadamia nut sticky roll didn't taste nearly as good as it sounded. I did really like their cinnamon rolls, which are huge. After ordering the ice cream, I saw the chocolate ganache gelato & had serious regrets about what I ordered. If I ever came back, I'd definitely try that; it looked amazing.

    (4)
  • Tanya J.

If you do nothing else while in Kauai come here and get the Kauai pie mocha or ice cream! I came here just for the mocha. And came back again. And again. This ice cream and coffee shop was no where near our hotel but yet it was worth it. Also the ice cream will leave an impression. My two-year-old daughter recognized this ice cream shop as soon as we pulled in the parking lot. It's that memorable! Five stars and worth every bit.

    (5)
  • Patrick M.

Lappert's is good. It's ice cream. I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. There was nothing super special about it, and the prices were a bit high. The staff was nice and helpful and the ice cream was good. I think next time I should have gotten the Mac Nut flavor. I tried the "signature" ice cream that was OK. If I had to choose, I would rather get some Hawaiian Shave Ice instead, with the ice cream in it. However, just don't get it at Uncle's Shave ice. Lappert's ice cream is way better than Uncle's crappy Shave Ice.

    (4)
  • Jim R.

A small shop selling ice cream, cookies and coffee located in an upscale shopping center that feels like any other outdoor mall in a tropical setting. Their store feels like a Hawaiian baskin Robbins crossed with a Starbucks. We tried some of the cookies-chocolate chip macadamia nut (good) and the peanut butter (very good). Both were large thick cakey cookies and cost around $1.75 each. Worth a stop if you are shopping here already, but not worth a special trip.

    (3)
  • Joa K.

Delicious ice cream! Lots of local inspired flavors. Every other choice had a tropical fruit or some sort of macadamia nut focused theme. Fine by me!! We came here multiple times during our stay in Kauai and I was never sick of it. My favorite was a single scoop of the Heavenly Hana ice cream, of course on a waffle cone. The ribbon of marshmallow throughout the ice cream added the perfect extra sweetness and texture. Mmmm~ Apparently the milkshakes here are bombdotcom. Just a "first world problem" note: The straws are regular skinny straws. So if you are ordering a milkshake with any macadamia nuts in it, be warned you may get some nuts stuck in the straw :P

    (4)
  • Jacqueline G.

Just ok and overpriced. Hard for ice cream to be mediocre, and this was. The waffle cone was good though!

    (2)
  • Jen S.

Most of their ice cream flavors are good, but soooo expensive! Would be great if they offered some organic options for what they charge. Love that they have a free water station for patrons.

    (4)
  • Colleen D.

Amazing selection of ice cream and gelato. I got a Banana Ali'i sundae. It was so delicious and huge portion. It's in my freezer right now and will probably last 2 more days. My husband got the gelato. Yum!

  • Malia B.

Love coming here and sharing a cup with my friends when they come to visit!!

Delicious ice cream! Happy kids (5) and happy adults (9) leaving the store... Clean place and reasonable price...

  • Merritt V.

If your in Kauai and you like ice cream go to Lappert's. This is a land mark for Kauai and you won't be disappointed.

    (5)
  • Mariko C.

Soo yummy!! My fav flavor: Kauai pie! A must try when visiting the island! Will be back again next year and will recommend to all of our friends!

    (5)
  • E T.

Omg the most AMAZING icecream ever ! Definatly go for the salted caramel and peanut butter, Kauai pie, roasted hazelnut and caramel ... #addicted ! They also do cookies, coffee and cups! The best !

    (5)
  • Karineh T.

This place is great! We had ice cream one night and coffee and pastries the next day! The coffee is a pour over which is preferred as a coffee addict :) the pastries were great too! Definitely a must stop when in Kauai!

    (5)
  • Chuck D.

Tried their gelato one night, ice cream and brownies the next night. Two different kinds of gelato; one was icy, the other was so-so (nothing like you'd get in Europe). Neither was smooth. The ice cream was better, but not spectacular. The brownies tasted old. I would have said something, but we didn't try them until we got to our condo. And it was our last night on the island. Might want to ask for a sample first.

    (3)
  • Grace C.

I love ice cream and this was good ice cream. A bit pricey but hey you're on vacation why not? Try to go for more island flavors and deviate from your regular mint chip/rocky road choices.

    (5)
  • Julie T.

Experience: Good. The place seems to always have a line and it goes by fairly quickly. Ice cream: Okay. I got the almond mocha fudge... it wasn't very memorable. It was too sweet to fully enjoy so I wasn't able to finish it... Overall, I wanted to just check what this place offered. I can't say I was blown away by the flavors or textures of the ice cream (compared to others I've had). But it was worth a try.

    (3)
  • Ariel V.

Loved the iced chai tea here! And the amazing ice cream smell is enough to entice anyone.

    (4)
  • Desiree R.

Seriously amazing ice cream!! Been here 3 days in a row with the entire group to enjoy. Totally a staple for your visit.

    (5)
  • Alison M.

A must try. Many flavors are unique to Hawaii. My Mom and I split a dish of 5 1/2 scoops. We enjoyed all the flavors.

    (5)
  • Troy V.

This is the best place on the south shore for dessert. The building looks new and the ambiance is really great. Ice cream is local and has a lot of variety with options and toppings. Only complaint I had was with ordering a blondie bar. It was a little dry/stale. Not horrible but not great. This is a must visit. 2nd time in 3 days for us already.

    (5)
  • Lily P.

Fun staff, great ice cream, and better dessert choice than getting dessert at the various restaurants (that had okay but nothing super special dessert). The ice cream and gelato here are amazing...I haven't tried the baked goods yet. I got a pumpkin spice ice cream, got to try to coffee, and then some of the mixes with chocolate/nuts/fudge/etc. I recommend getting the waffle cone if you have room for it..otherwise the portions are pretty good in the cups.

    (4)
  • Arik T.

Great shop in a great area. The waffle cone smell made us have to stop in and I'm so glad we did. I had the sea salt caramel peanut butter gelato. Its way better than it sounds! Even though I just had 1 scoop it was enough to know that this place is FREAKING AMAZING!

    (5)
  • Giulianna N.

Now THIS is ice cream!!! The location is new since we last came to Kauai, we used to frequent their old spot in Old Koloa Town, and although the locale may have changed, the quality has STAYED ON POINT!! Expect to walk into their shops and breathe in a blast of that fresh made "waffle cone" aroma!!! mmmmm........ Our absolute favorite is the Kauai Pie!!! Delicious hawaiian inspired kona coffee ice cream with swirls of chocolate fudge, coconut flakes, macadamia nuts and a vanilla cake crunch! I think I gained a couple pounds on vacay due to these bad boys... Get them on a chocolate nut dipped waffle cone.. and voila!! Heaven in a cone!!! Love Lapperts !! A MUST TRY to indulge when you visit Kauai!!

    (5)
  • Kimberly H.

Made my day. The salted caramel and peanut butter gelato was super tasty. After paying $1.50 for non-bottled water at Savage's I was happy to see the water was free. The coffee was good and strong. We will be back.

  • S Y.

So there's always this mouth watering ad in the Hana Hou magazine when you're en route to one of the islands via Hawaiian Airlines. The ad pictures a double scoop of a chocolaty, fudgy swirled, nutty and chunky ice cream sitting in a chocolate dipped with macadamia nut rimmed sugar cone from... Lappert's. Years of seeing this ad, and here I am- finally! It didn't disappoint. Flavors with names that speak for itself; Caramel Coconut Macadamia Nut, Kona Lava Java, Auntie's Lilikoi Passion fruit, Maui Mango Madness and then some...

    (4)
  • Roberta T.

Good place for dessert in kauai. We had cappuccino brownie and dark chocolate macadamia shortbread. Both was very good (not too sweet) with a reasonable price. Location is very pleasant as well with stores around.

    (4)
  • Tuesday S.

This place has so many options to choose from so we got the 'can't decide dish' where you choose 7 different scoops in a waffle bowl!!!! Heaven :)

    (5)
  • Amanda H.

There is something about the smell of freshly made waffle cones that make you want to eat ice cream. How about Coconut Ice Cream w/ Chocolate swirls and Macadamia Nut with a second scoop of Kona Coffee Ice Cream. Step Back Jack -- that is the stuff that dreams are made of!!! When you walk in this store it is like an Ice Cream Dream!!! And they have pastries also -- I love it. Thinking about it all brings about a diabetic coma. Yum

    (5)
  • L S.

Yum! I can only review the coconut ice cream because it's the only ice cream I ordered when I went here...and it was many times! It's so creamy and delicious with bits of coconuts swirled in. Once I had it on a chocolate and mac nut encrusted waffle cone! It's amazeballs!

    (4)
  • Sally M.

Loved the Kauai Pie. Bf enjoyed the Banana Fudge. We both loved our waffle cones. Things we didn't like: the lack of queue / design / layout of the store. The fact that the flavors are not all listed conveniently for everyone to see makes it very awkward for people to all circle and re-circle around the ice cream cases trying - desperately - to peer in to see all the flavors. Simple lists on the board / on the cases / in conveniently located spots around the store would solve this. As would a proper queue. It was insanely busy tonight on NYE, and we were a bit bummed by the UX, and how it dampened our ice cream adventure out.

    (3)
  • Arnold W.

Finally got to try lappert's. I tried a couple of the gelatos. Tasted pretty. The wife got affagato (which she loves), it was pretty good except the ice cream was a little icy.

    (4)
  • Mark M.

This stuff is the real deal.

  • Leigh Ann B.

I'd vacationed several times in Maui and always loved Lapperts, so I was so excited to see the ice cream shop so close to our hotel in Poipu during my first trip to Kauai. It's a bit pricey, but some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Very rich and creamy. A single scoop is more than enough. Advice: go for the local flavors. You can get mint chip and cookie dough anywhere. Try flavors with coconut, mac nut, or kona coffee ice cream. You can't go wrong.

    (5)
  • Chad H.

Great ice cream and freshly pulled espresso shots. That equals a very tasty affogato!

    (5)
  • Nishad J.

Great gelato with macadamia nuts and shaved coconut in several different flavors! If you don't eat eggs they also make their gelato the real Italian way so no eggs are added in! Super yummy and definitely worth a trip before you head out to Poipu Beach!

    (5)
  • P S.

Yum! Attentive and knowledgeable staff that knew ingredients to ice creams like they had been there a long time. Our children loved the banana fudge ice cream and the lilikoi sorbet. We also tried the coffee ice cream and salted caramel one too ... nice!

    (5)
  • Tim R.

Ice Cream Heaven Plenty of options here but went for the most popular and employee recommended Kauai Pie Ice Cream in a waffle cone. Kauai Pie Ice Cream - Kona coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge, coconut flakes, macadamia nuts and vanilla cake crunch. The waffle cone was average but oh boy, the ice cream was anything but average. I love ice cream and always indulge on my vacations and I was truly impressed. The blend of coffee, chocolate, and coconut flakes was just sensational. They also have coffee, baked goods, and sorbet.

    (5)
  • B R.

I frequented this place while staying in Poipu. It was overall really good. Delicious cookies, carrot cake, and other pastries. Iced coffee was not the best I've had but really good considering that this place is known most for its ice cream. Ice cream was delicious but watch out as it melts fast! Service was not the fastest but was friendly. Ambience was pleasant, nothing great but not bad either.

    (4)
  • Rachel Z.

Ice cream is great, but the latte is too sweet for my taste.

    (3)
  • Barrah C.

You have to give any Lappert's you find on the island a try... it's excellent and a good value... typical scoop ($3.95) + waffle cone ($1.00)... Friendly staff will provide samples of whatever you'd like to try... Ate at two different shops and both were excellent. The Cashew Caramel Turtle was delish.... ;)

    (5)
  • brian b.

The ice cream is okay. I've had five star artisianal hand made ice cream before and I'd reserve 5 stars for that ice cream. I'd also reserve 4 dollars for one small scoop for that ice cream too. You're paying tourist trap prices. Anyway, nothing to write home about. The server wasn't paying attention and I had to ask twice for a cone. The cashier was friendly though so they kind of cancel each other out.

    (3)
  • Julie S.

THE BEST, CREAMIEST, MOST DELICIOUS ICE CREAM EVER!!! I tried the Kona coffee and macadamia nut flavors - both were heavenly! Loved it so much, I wish there was a Lapperts on the mainland! (sad face)

    (5)
  • Arden B.

For anyone who has ever been to a Sprinkles Cupcakes, you understand the concept of these kinds of places that are so ridiculously over-hyped that the lines are always out the door and you're left to wonder: Is it worth it? It's worth it. So so so worth it. I was admittedly a little tipsy upon arrival (see my Josselin's Tapas Bar and Grill Review) and was also pretty full. But still, I had heard such good things and had to give it a try. I tried the banana first, but didn't love it. Instead I decided on a cone of the white chocolate macadamia nut. BINGO! Some of the best ice cream I've ever had, and I'm really not an ice cream person, so to enjoy it so much said A LOT!

    (5)
  • Rachel H.

Our morning routine consisted of getting coffee and cinnamon rolls to-go and eating them on the beach just after sunrise. (We were up verrrrrrry early as our 10 month old struggled with the time change. Not only is Lappert's open at 6am (one of the earliest spots in Poipu), it also has really fantastic coffee.) The cinnamon rolls are fabulous and HUGE.

Great place on the island to come for handmade ice creams, baked goods and coffee. Located in a very busy shopping center, Lappert's is located on the east end of the shopping center. It's not a huge place, but they do have a good selection of different ice cream and sorbet flavors. Chocolate cookie crunch: Basically chocolate ice cream with Oreos in it. I enjoyed it since I do love Oreos. It's very chocolatey so if you're not into chocolate then don't get it! Tutus anniversary: Coconut ice cream with raspberry and passion fruit sorbet. It's a very tropical ice cream. They have actual pieces of coconut in the ice cream. The two sorbets aren't overpowering and all the flavors seem to work together. If you're in the south end of Kauai, definitely make a quick dessert stop at Lappert's!

My wife and I had coffee and split a piece of carrot cake. It was amazing! The price was pretty good to. I have no complaints about this place.

It absolutely drives me nuts when places like this don't have any kind of an organized line or take-a-number so you can get served fairly. So last night I order something for my daughter and the guy asks if there'll be anything else. I point to my wife and before she can order, he goes and helps another customer! And not for like a quick taste or something, he lets her taste some flavors, answers some questions, and then serves up her order too! Finally my wife has to interrupt him to order, but then we have to wait for the same customer to talk to her friend before she finishes paying, so we can pay. Ugh. I should have went with my instinct--you're in Hawaii, get some shave ice, bruddah. It's good ice cream, but realistically, it's just ice cream that you can get on the mainland. And the service is not exactly drawing me to it.

I had the salted caramel peanut butter gelato which was delicious. They had baked treats here which also looked very good, but I didn't try them. All of the ice cream looked good.

I'm trying to figure out how people can possibly rave about this ice cream because it was bad. From the reviews I have read online I was expecting something great and I got ice cream that was extremely icey and not creamy at all. In fact the other person I was with threw away his ice cream about 1/4th of the way through. We both had different flavors, but it didn't matter has this ice cream was pure ice.

I fell in love with Lappert's as a kid when my parents and I would vacation to Kauai. As an adult I had to give it a try to see if it was as good as I remembered - it was. Great local ice cream with lots of local flavors. Perfect treat for a hot afternoon.

  • Omar S.

Great selection and their one scoop is really one scoop. Not some oversized monster scoop. With little kids we appreciated that. I've had the kona coffee and the banana fudge. Both are super yummy.

  • Thomas V.

A little pricey for ice cream but everything is in this area. We got the coconut macadamia nut fudge ice cream in a waffle bowl and it was creamy and delicious! Will definitely be back before we head back to California to try another flavor or maybe stick to what we know is good...

Decided to check out Kauai's homemade ice cream. This was the closest location to us so we came for dessert. We got the mac nut with caramel in a cup ($3.65) and mac nut with fudge in a waffle cone ($0.80 extra). The ice cream is smooth, soft and the flavors weren't too sweet. The ice cream was creamy and delicious. They also sell sorbets, gelato and pastries. It's in a shopping center so there's plenty of parking and there's seating inside as well as outside. We got a frequent buyer card, but you gotta eat there about 10 or 11 times before receiving a free ice cream. Service was fast and friendly.

Great selection of unique flavors that taste really good. It was hard to pick, but the Kauai Pie and banana fudge were pretty divine.

Beyond 5 stars. The ice cream is loaded with tons of toppings and chunks of gooey goodness. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to eat this ice cream.

South side is typically sunny. Having the ice cream shop here is a perfect solution to keep cool after a day out on the beach. Waffle cones are freshly made and the bomb dot com.

  • Paige S.

Clean modern place that smells like fresh baked cookies, has a wide selection of items and free tastings, and lovely seating inside and outside. Loved the Hawaiian ice cream flavors like Kauai Pie. They give you a loyalty card for 11th item free. Keep it! You may eat there that often!

Is it bad that I loved this place so much that I gave it 5-stars despite one of my scoops of ice cream having freezer burn? Cuz THAT is how good it is... for real. The banana fudge? The waffle cones. The coconut ice cream with fudge and macadamia nuts? FOGEDDABOUTIT! Winner winner!

Best freshly made ice cream ever. Creamy, rich, refreshing, especially on muggy days in Hawaii. Coconut and chocolate - yum.

one of my fav ice cream place on kauai. Customer service is great! make sure to try a sample before you order. They have variety of flavors. They also have pastries, coffee and other cold drinks/ shakes. I love the location in Poipu, Kauai.

Lappert's... So glad we found you during our honeymoon in 1989. We've since introduced dozens of folks to you, too. EVERY one of them came away smiling. As ice cream goes, they're stupendous. Toss in all the fresh Hawaiian Ingredients and it's better still. But you have to slowly try ALL the favors to find the one that most speaks to you. Mine? Why, it's of course the Kaua'i Pie. I once met Walter Lappert in person at their original shop in Koloa. Although he is no longer living, the ice cream is still the best. We do miss the old charm of the Koloa shop, but Kukuiula doesn't suck.

Sorry quick review, great dessert, what a treat. Young lady behind the counter was great too! Thank You! Only criticism was to define the waiting line better, it's a good problem to have, but a little confusing for those that don't use proper line etiquette.

  • Josh K.

This ice cream shop was excellent. I had the mini peanut butter cup fudge ice cream and it was great! The staff is friendly and will let you sample whatever flavors your not too sure about. Not too special, but if you're looking for ice cream in the area, I'd go here!

    (4)
  • JD S.

Holy indulgence. This place is great. Had two scoops, kona coffee & something with carmel & chocolate. The latter was delicious, sweet & indulgent. Famous on the island & for good reason. Pricey but worth that splurge after a long day of hiking, swimming & boogie boarding.

  • Emilio M.

This ice cream is da bomb! We have gone here the majority of our nights here in Kauai. Really good quality ice cream, fantastic flavor selection, I'd recommend a flavor to try (aka every one I've had thus far) but honestly i don't think you can lose at this place! I'm an ice cream guy, and this store is just phenomenal!

    (5)
  • Lesley M.

The moment you step inside your nose will be filled with the amazing smell of sweet ice cream and fresh waffle cones. We had one scoop of white chocolate macadamia nut and one scoop of regular chocolate macadamia nut in a waffle bowl. Both were good but the regular chocolate was much better. If you are an ice cream lover and you are in the area this is a must stop shop. They have a ton of flavors to choose from and a number of them are unique.

    (4)
  • Tania D.

I had to try this place because I had heard it was one of those places you have to try if it's your first time in Hawaii. I was not disappointed , I taste tested the kona coffee and lillikoi and had a hard time making my choice because all the flavors looked so good and original. I ended up with the heavenly Hana and mac nut, I definitely would come back here next time I visit the islands!

Expect to find long lines but it sure is worth the wait. Try everything if you can. The choco coated waffle cone is a sin. yum yum yum

  • Chris G.

I have a Lappert's by me on the mainland, soooo not the same. This location has a lot of choices, and everything is very fresh, which is the result of how busy the place gets. My biggest complaint is that they have not figured out a good system to address the foot traffic, c'omon people! The night I went customers had to talk amongst themselves to figure out who was where in line. Once we got our ice cream, we had to go back against the foot traffic and pay. The layout and flow of the store is far from ideal. OK, store logistics aside, this place rocks. As good as any ice cream I've had anywhere, very fresh and lots of options. We had the caramel, macadamia, coconut swirl (something like that) and the caramel, vanilla nut (something like that). Everyone will find something to tickle their fancy, and it's all good. Don't hesitate to have a sample spoon, or two.

    (4)
  • E M.

Excellent ice cream and friendly staff, my only complaint is they do run out of flavor choices quickly since they are small batch! Worth a stop!

THIS is my favorite ice cream on Kauai, after trying the highest recommended places on yelp and in my trusty guide book. On our first day of our honeymoon, my hubby and I had the Kauai Pie, and we should have just gone back for it every other night of the trip. It was perfection in ice cream. Perfect amount, sweetness, fat content. I would seriously need a whole new, larger-sized collection of clothes if I lived less than 1,000 miles from this place. Thankfully I'm safe. Also we were told the decaf coffee at Roy's down the street is the Kona blend from this place, and it was the best decaf coffee I've EVER had. And I have had hundreds of decaf coffees with desserts over the years if not somewhere in the thousand range! Usually they're terrible on just a very base level. I never even expect them to be good, just drinkable and able to at least cut the sweetness of the dessert. This coffee blew my mind. So I am going to go try out their regular coffee tomorrow and see if it's the real deal! If it is, I might have to ship some home. Oh and I'll probably have to have a big waffle cone of Kauai Pie while I'm at it. Darn! :)

    (5)
  • Jacob K.

We sampled a bunch of flavors and thought the gelato was delicious (better than the ice cream flavors we tried). Service could have been better but ok.

    (4)
  • Andrew H.

Great ice cream selection. Also have gelato which is tasty. For two scoops it's around $7. The waffle cones taste very good and fresh. All Ice cream can be made into a shake. I had the white chocolate macadamia nut. Very good. They also have fresh water . After eating all that ice cream, you get really thirsty.

    (5)
  • Aaron R.

Had the chocolate macadamia ice cream, and yeah, it was good. Nice people and convenient location to Poipu and Lawai. You can also smell the great waffle cone scent wafting around the corner as you walk by. However, it was what I'd describe as one mini scoop of GOOD ice cream for $4.11. That was for a tiny plastic cup, not a waffle bowl/cone. I knew the cost, went for it, and can only say, I'll try something else for dessert next time.

  • Aimee B.

Lappert's is a tradition for my family on Kauai! We go at least twice ;) I love the chocolate macnut, my hubby loves the caramel. Their waffle cones are really good. Be prepared to eat outside the shop as it gets crowded and is small - the back patio seating is fun when tables are open.

    (4)
  • Joanna L.

I like that Lappert's has something for everyone. Not an ice cream fan? How about some sorbet? A pastry? A drink from the extensive coffee menu? There were many flavors to choose from and after hemming and hawing for a good five minutes, I went with the Chocolate Macadamia Nut ice cream. Very creamy texture and loaded with macadamias. Good-size scoop and a reasonable price. The only negative? Glum staff. Eat some ice cream, ladies, it'll cheer you up.

    (4)
  • Christina W.

Oh my gosh. Kona coffee, coconut, macadamia nuts, and fudge all in one ice cream?! The Kauai Pie is the flavor to get. I was amazed. The ice cream was thick, creamy, and super rich. We loved every bite. When we went, we had to wait an odd amount of time to pay for our ice cream (there was no one else in the store), but that's the only bad thing about our experience there!

    (4)
  • Vince L.

What more can I say about Lappert's? I've never been disappointed by any of the dozens of visits I've made to any of the locations so far. I have to note that one particular lady was extra nice. She got me a freshly-made waffle cone. It sounded great at the time and was good if I had eaten it by itself. However, it didn't occur to me at the time that it meant I had to eat the ice cream quickly because it melted all over me!

  • Jenny F.

I rarely give 5 stars, I actually try not to in order to reserve that rating for the best of the best...and lapperts takes the cake. Kauai pie (coffee ice cream with fudge, Mac nuts, vanilla chips and coconut) is sooo good. And you can actually taste all the different flavors, which is impressive in and of itself. This is quality ice cream for such a good price, and their single scoop cone is heaped high with dairy goodness! Their gelatos were inventive too - salted caramelized banana, poha berry and goat cheese...lol trust me. They sounded different, and I mean that in a delicious way, not a I'm searching for a nicer word for gross kinda way! Creative and inventive, how bout that?

    (5)
  • Susan W.

Popular desert spot tried scoop of chocolate macadamia but in a chocolate dipped cone. Chocolate on the cone sooo rich couldn't finish it. Ice cream full of macadamia nuts but a little shallow on chocolate flavor. Pretty good overall.

    (3)
  • Nancy C.

This place has the best homemade ice cream and the flavors are unique to Hawaii. Their caramel coconut macadamia nut flavor is delicious and they have a few gelato flavors as well. We went back practically every night to try a new flavor. Love it!!!

  • Nina B.

I love ice cream so can be easy to please when it comes to the sweet treat. Add in local ingredients and flavors done well and I'm a very happy camper. We tried 6 flavors. There is an option for the indecisive where you choose 5 1/2 scoops. The half scoops they gave us were more like full scoops. I order an additional flavor on the side because, well, I'm selfish when it comes to ice cream and didn't want to share. The full scoop was nearly 2 scoops in my book. Here's what we ordered: - Kona Lava Java - Kona coffee ice cream with deep chocolate sorbet - Tutu's Anniversary - Coconut ice cream with raspberry and passion fruit sorbet - White Chocolate Macadamia Nut - Kauai Pie - Kona coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge, coconut flakes, macadamia nuts and vanilla cake crunch - Caramel Coconut Macadamia Nut - Maui Mango Madness - Mango ice cream, mango sorbet and grand marnier I liked the flavors but I favor the more creamy ice cream. My favorite was the Kauai Pie - all the goodies lumped into 1 flavor. The Caramel Coconut was my 2nd fave and surprisingly I really enjoyed the fruit flavors which I usually stay away from.

  • Jolene B.

My favorite is Kauai Pie. I 'm here everyday when visiting Hawaii

    (5)
  • Courtney K.

You usually can't go wrong with ice cream in a waffle cone and Lappert's is no exception. I definitely recommend getting some of their local flavors like Kona Lava Java (coffee ice cream with dark chocolate sorbet swirled in) or chocolate macadamia nut.

    (4)
  • Monica R.

This place is way overrated. Most of the ice creams are far too sweet (and I like sweet!), and all are overpriced. The customer service sucks, too. You're better off going to Koloa Mill Ice Cream not too far down the road.

  • Lina O.

do you ever wonder what heaven smells like? walk into Lappert's. its delicious. my mouth watered when i opened the door. we've been to the Lappert's in Las Vegas at The California Hotel but had to come to Lappert's in Kauai as it is originally from Kauai! there are a couple of locations. this one is located in the Kukuiula Shopping Center in Koloa. the original location is in Hanapepe. they have several different flavors of ice cream which you can ask for tasters. they are super friendly and kept cheerful even after asking to try a couple of different flavors. they also make milk shakes and drinks and have really good drip coffee. the ice cream is super airy and light in flavor. its not over poweringly sweet. they use local ingredients and it tastes homemade. they also freshly make their waffle cones. ours was still warm! Lappert's is a must go to place on Kauai. get some coffee to take home as omiyage!

    (5)
  • Joshua B.

Yeah, this ice cream is incredibly high quality! The "line" was a little... discombobulated? But otherwise, the ice cream and waffle cones were perfect. The ice cream was rich, creamy, clearly very high quality, and my macadamia was perfect!

    (5)
  • S E.

I wish I could give Lappert's more stars. It had an incredibly nice staff, convenient and clean location, good flavor concepts, and I'm always happy to try local-made stuff. But the actual execution was only just barely alright with a slightly icy/grainy texture in most of the ice creams we sampled (between us, we had the Kauai Pie, Mint Chip, Lava Java, Big Island Inspiration, and Heavenly Hana). Would be okay with going back if over that way but, if I were amped for the best quality ice cream/frozen dessert in the area, I'd probably get the Kalaheo Cookie gelato at Papalani.

    (3)
  • Kathryn M.

great ice cream and good service. Long lines though, but that isn't their fault ;)

    (5)
  • John F.

I'm not a dessert guy, but Lappert's is awesome. Their waffle cones are really good and, as I've been told, home made. The ice cream is really tasty, but not too rich. Two scoops isn't too much. My only regret is not coming here every night while in Kauai. Their brownies and coffee are pretty good too. Don't leave Hawaii without getting ice cream here.

    (4)
  • Michael F.

"Ice-cream Plotter" There was never any doubt. Ever. It was going to be Kona Coffee ice-cream for yours truly. Three scoops. In a dish. Every night. Without fail. I would take my dessert and walk through the rows of shops. Eating, thinking, plotting. Always plotting. I liked to walk out back and listen to the ocean. It soothes me like nothing else. Except for Lappert's, that is, and the very nice gals who work there. It's down in Poipu at the Kukuiula Shopping Village. Run there, child. Run.

    (4)
  • Andrew W.

Nothing to write home about. Other customers were ridiculous, having a sample of EVERY SINGLE FLAVOR before deciding on a triple scoop of this or that. I felt like I was right back in the suburbs of Chicago. So many other places on the islands make sure you know you are in Hawaii. Here, not so much.

    (3)
  • Sara B.

Not sure what all the hype was about this place. My partner is an ice cream lover and it was ok. Nothing that was worth raving over. They do have a large variety and I liked that they also have coffee and baked goods. Ice cream wise- EH

    (3)
  • James H.

Surprisingly, one would never guess they make the best brewed 100% Kona Coffee in Kauai. The ice-cream are also incredible as well. My favorite is the Coconut Pineapple. It was so good I had a scoop everyday for a week.

    (5)
  • Sammy L.

Had a baby sized scoop of the spumoni as I was full of dinner and my honey had a regular waffle coned salted carmel banana gelato which was just absolutely heaven in your mouth! Stop by and get a scoop since Lapperts were originated in Kauai, its a nice little treat!

    (5)
  • Rob C.

tasty satisfying flavors. high butterfat ice cream. mango calamansi, maybe too much air in the gelato? banana salted caramel, nice on the banana. btw Lapper's Hawaii and mainland are different (made in hanapepe vs richmond). look for those hawaiian special flavors like kauai pie.

    (5)
  • Sparky T.

Really good, creamy icecream. Semi-soft style. Many flovor combinations (they let us have tastes of many). I went with the banana fudge which did not skimp on the flavoring. Really great as i ate the first half a scoop but became a bit cloyingly sweet after that. Prices are high, as is typical on the islands, but this could be worth it. Just find the right flavor for you - it may take repeated attempts! ;) ----------------------------- NOTE: This review (and others on HI) were based on a tourist / vacationers perspective. I would expect that may be different from reviews from locals. Keep that in mind. It would be nice if Yelp allowed a visitor/local indicator on the reviews. Also, I think all of my reviews on Kauai could start with "A bit pricey..." or "Very expensive..." just due to the location. Everything is expensive here and locations near touristy areas even more so. Take that as a given. I also noted that I tend to be giving very high star scores. This was a bit of a concern until I realized we were primarily going to places that were well rated by other Yelpers. If you only go to good places then the reviews will naturally be skewed to the higher end. Thanks to all the Yelpers that helped us find so many good places!

  • Annie C.

Wow! Just drive here now! Wherever u are on the island, drive here. The ice cream is sooo creamy and yummy, it makes u come back everytime. And if u do come often, don't forget to get ur card stamped. Every 10th ice cream is free! Enjoy!

    (5)
  • Emm C.

I don't know why I have to go when there is one in Marin (Cali). I think I crave it bc its so darn hot and the coconut pineapple one hit the spot! Wow the 100% kona coffee here is $39! Kinda nuts

  • Ruby W.

This was my last stop before we flew back home. This Lappert's location had more selection than any Lappert's I've been on Kauai or on Oahu. Still planning to check out Maui. They got ice cream, gelato, coffee, tea, pastries, and so on. I'd be at this shop more often if I could but we stayed in Princeville location. Still love their Kauai Pie! Finally got to have it at every Lappert's on Kauai!

    (5)
  • Stephen S.

Most of the flavors were underwhelming. They were nice enough to let me try a couple before I settled in on the Maui mango. Solid ice cream, tasty waffle cone

    (3)
  • Jennifer O.

Here is all the advice you need: Kauai pie. That is it. This ice cream is sooo delicious! I love the macnuttyness and coconut mixed with coffee....Wish I could have some now....unfortunately, I'm 3000 miles away *sigh

  • Jody Z.

Lappert's has moved out of Koloa to the new big shopping complex called Kukui'ula Village on 2829 Ala Kalanikaumaka. You have to go past Koloa, and follow the signs to Poipu. This ice cream was yummy! Plus they have fun flavors that you won't find at home. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but no worse than a chain like Cold Stone and at least this place is more unique. Since it was a little expensive, we shared a double scoop of the Big Island flavor in a chocolate covered waffle cone. It was delicious and the perfect amount to share.

    (4)
  • Gail G.

Delightful tropical flavored. I had white chocolate macadamia nut vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce! Yum! When you get tired of shave ice, go here! Nice shopping too.

  • Dennis L.

I am now thousands of miles from the nearest Lappert's, but remembering my experience is causing me to salivate. I am not kidding, this ice cream was too legit to quit! I need some now! I am sure they have a lot of amazing flavors, but there is one that you must have. Kauai Pie - Kona coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge, coconut flakes, macadamia nuts and vanilla cake crunch Just do it! It's amazing. And if you are lucky enough to live west of the Rockies, you can order Lappert's through the mail. $120 for 6 pints. Ouch...this stuff really must be crack!

    (5)
  • Kim S.

This new location was dangerously too close to our hotel in Poipu. We visited 2x on a 2 nite stay! Haven't been to Lappert's in ages - when did they start making gelato?? The waffle cones are fresh & crunchy. They have chocolate dipped waffle cones too. I had a dark chocolate with chocolate chips gelato and mango. Yum yum!

    (4)
  • T S.

i start my day off here with incredible coffee (I don't even want to put cream in it, it's so good) and something fattening and I always try to end my night here for the most premium ice cream. Here are the three that make me swoon~ Heavenly Hana - Creamy chocolate ice cream with delicate swirls of marshmallow ribboned throughout with our handmade chunks of white chocolate covered macadamia nuts, dark chocolate almond chunks, chocolate bits & roasted almonds. Big Island Inspiration - Vanilla ice cream with chunks of fudge brownies and chocolate Kauai Pie - Kona coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge, coconut flakes, macadamia nuts and vanilla cake crunch. I can't even think straight writing this review =)

    (5)
  • Jina J.

So many flavors and hardly any of them appetizing. Also, when you mix in toppings, like nuts or candy, they should not be so plentiful as to mask the actual taste of the ice cream. Unless your ice cream is just not all that great. Would much rather have Papalani Gelato.

    (2)
  • Christopher P.

Delicious local Ice Cream place! Every time we went on our vacation it was delicious! So many different options. Dont forget to put it in a cone!

    (4)
  • Ann S.

I think we kept this place in business...I'm surprised the employees didn't know our names. We had more Hana Hou sundaes than should be allowed by law. I will say, stay clear of the peanut butter bar brownie thingy. That was realllly bad but everything else, go for it!

    (4)
  • Sarah B.

The smell of the waffle cones lured us in. We ended up having desert for dinner. This place was amazing! I had the gelato and it was to die for. I highly recommend this place.

Koloa Mill Ice Cream & Coffee is far better, no contest.

  • Ellen C.

Loved it! I had the vanilla bean pistachio I believe it was. I just had a cup. it was actually a cold & windy night when my auntie & uncle treated the fam. Feb 26 2012 lol was the exact date so u know it was a stormy weekend. :-/ taste was awesome I'd come back here again if I was in Kauai. They were busy that night & they were able to get 9 orders :-)

    (5)
  • Makana W.

The ice cream is delicious. It's pretty pricey, but the majority of southside restaurants and shops are up there because of all the tourism. They do have a kamaaina discount though! I love their chocolate shakes!!

what i love about lappert's hawaii is that it all started in sleepy hanapepe. it's a local kauai company that has expanded to a couple of the outer islands. the ice cream at lappert's is always sooooo delicious! they have a variety of different flavors. i always get a scoop of ice cream in their freshly made waffle cones. sooo good!! they also have very good pastries and coffee. check out this new location, located in the kukuiula shopping center!

    (5)
  • Richard D.

Ice cream here is GOOD. We had the white chocolate macadamia and kona coffee ice cream in a waffle cup. The price wasn't too bad, and the flavors are just delicious. The shopping center where this is located is upscale and very nice. You can enjoy your ice cream while walking around this small quaint little area. The staff doesn't quite fit the place (an assortment of fairly stern and somewhat impolite ladies), but luckily at a ice cream shop, that doesn't matter much. Only reason this wasn't a 5 star was the white chocolate macadamia is essentially a white chocolate macadamia bar mixed in with vanilla ice cream. Totally not what I expected. It was good, but we found huge huge chunks of chocolate/macadamia still in tact. Sorry, but I could have re-created this at Safeway.

  • Anita S.

Maybe because I almost never eat ice cream because I avoid sugar and starch, this ice cream tasted so awesome. I coerced my husband into getting a keiki cup of Kauai Pie for him (me) to try. My ONE bite, was phenomenal...surprisingly not too sweet, but creamy and filled with all sorts of tasty stuff mac nuts, coconut, chocolate. What is not to love? Well, the scooper/cashier didn't crack a Smile, Aloha, Mahalo, or Thank You.

I absolutely love a plastic cup with vanilla ice cream , drizzle Hot chocolate fudge , and some Macadamia Nuts!! oh em , it's delicious! thank god for Lapperts! and it's amazing how they have a little bakery of Pastires , They have coffees , expresso's , ice cream , shakes , and more! :) open early like 630 or 7am till 10pm if I'm not mistaken! ask for the punch card , get 10 stamps and you get a free scoop of ice cream

This is located in a nice shopping center. It's also a nice ice cream shop along with drinks and bakery items. They have seating inside and outside. We tried the coconut ice cream and white chocolate macadamia nut ice cream in a waffle. The white choc mac one was SO good, the coconut was just OK, the waffle bowl delish! Bakery items are also half off after 9 PM. We picked up some goodies a few times to eat for breakfast the next day. The muffins were pretty good, scone a little bit dry and the carrot cake not good. However, this place is really known for their freshly made ice cream which I do feel is top quality overall. Would def recommend!

SO absolutely delicious!!! I loved the Big Island Inspiration Ice Cream and wish I could have it back on the mainland :)

This place has really good ice cream and lots of island flavors. Many flavors are made with local chocolate and fruits. I had the Kona coffee flavor in a really nice waffle cone that was far more substantial than the stuff you buy in stores or even get served at most creameries on the mainland. I also appreciated that the ice was not overly milky and had good texture; not too firm but no so soft that you have to eat fast before it runs down your arm. Not sure what location others have gone to but when I stopped by here there was no line at all. So I was able to sample 2 other flavors (can't recall which now) but they were both tasty.

    Very good ice cream!

Okay...so went almost EVERY day, uh huh, there 8 days, and went nearly every day. : - ) Lots of great flavor choices. They have (GREAT) cookies and other baked treats. Mmmmmmmmmmm. Seriously, run to this place and enjoy how ice cream should be enjoyed!

  • Mel R.

We're big fans of ice cream and have big expectations coming from San Francisco but Lappert's gets high marks from us. The "Hawaiian" flavors were the best. Kauai Pie was ah-mazing! However the Kauai Pie coffee was way too sweet -- and we ordered it without the whipped cream. We did buy coffee to take back home with us and it was GOOD. Make sure to get a stamp card to earn free ice cream. If you're like up, you'll fill up a card in no time.

Had a large white chocolate mocha. Unfortunately, it was the best togo coffee I've had so far. Way better than starbucks. Espresso and Ice Cream is a great combination. Place smelled like warm waffle cones. I'd go back.

  • Lola L.

We are Ice cream lovers so their flavors here were amazing! The Kauai pie (coffee ice cream with coconuts and macademia) was to die for. Also the tropical flavors (Mama Tutu's revenge- passionfruit and coconut) was one of a kind. Also try the homemade waffle cone which makes it even better :)

I love Lappert's! This new location is very nice. I like how much roomier & cleaner it is. They also have a wider selection for ice cream flavors, & they recently added a few gelato flavors & pastries, which I have yet to try. They also make a variety of smoothies & espresso drinks.

Rating: 4/5 star's (There's always room for improvement) Date visited: too many times Simply the best in the state! I have not encountered any problems with any of their locations.

  • Al F.

Very good selection of ice cream and baked goods. We make sure to stop here on every trip to Kauai, usually more than once. The ice cream is nice and soft. The waits can get long as many people come here so make sure you are on Island time and relax.

  • Greg F.

As far as ice cream goes, this place has it all. I had the lava tube and it was everything I could hope for in a dessert. If you have not been to Lappert's, you owe it to yourself. Enjoy the indulgence...

  • Katie A.

    love the kauai pie!!!!

    (5)
  • Sparkles S.

All the flavors are good. If you have 2 people get the pint. 3 or more get the quart. You can pick 2 flavors for the pint and 4 for the quart. You save money. I really like all their flavors. My son loves their pistachio gellato. I like the Oreo cookies in chocolate, mac nut, and Kauai pie. They also have pastries and hot coffee.

    (5)
  • Kirkwood J.

The gem of the lot, likely the largest and possibly newest location. Has gelato too! Looking forward to next Kaua'i trip!!!

Oh Lappert's. I wish you sent your ice cream to Colorado!!! It was quite the warm day walking around Kukuiula Shopping Village and I stopped in for something cool and delicious. A scoop of Kona Coffee and a scoop of Chocolate Macadamia Nut later and I was in heaven. Its also a large store with some cute parlor type tables. We also stopped here after the Kauai Coffee Company and my nephews had some fabulous looking dipped waffle cones and I of course, had the same exact combo as my first visit. Make sure you stop in here - the service is also very friendly.

    (5)
  • Ryan D.

I had the Pumpkin crunch in a bowl and my wife had coconut pineapple in a waffle cone. Both flavours were spectacular. The waffle cone was also very good. I highly recommend this place.

  • Eileen C.

Macademia nut ice cream ftw I was a skeptic, but it tastes amazing. I don't even really like Macademia nuts! Kaui pie flavor is another honorable mention. This joint is off da hook. Features hand made ice cream with ingredients from Kaui. I'm going to miss this place when I head back to California. The ice cream is so creamy and delicious. Perfect to go with their homemade waffle cones. I noticed several people buy Lappert's coffee. I haven't tried it, but I'd go out on a limb and assume the coffee wins as well.

    (5)
  • Sophie M.

The lilikoi passion sorbet was great. I tasted my husband's coffee Kauai pie and it was amazing... Coconut and chocolate undertones. I was given a taste of the ice cream that had the same name. It was awesome. That is what I am getting next time!

Delicious ice cream and friendly service. Interesting flavors. Definitely will go back.

  • Keith A.

I'd be able to write a review on Lapperts if I was able to have their ice cream but since I'm lactose intolerant and they don't have vegan ice cream (not one flavor, none, nada) I was only able to get a cinnamon roll while my wife and friends got ice cream. For being the best ice cream shop on the island it would be a lot cooler if they had just one vegan choice, not just for vegans but for folks who can't have milk.

  • Katie D.

My husband and I were staying just north of Lihue and discovered Lapperts when we were on the north shore. We instantly looked it up to see if there was a closer location and we were in luck with this one. We stopped by the coconut grove to try to go to the Fish Hut for lunch, but it was closed (we were there 4th of july) we walked around the marketplace and came across Lapperts and it was open! The guy working behind the counter was super friendly and I feel like there were more flavor options at this location than at the one up north. The ice cream is superb! Cant be beat! (get the Kauai pie!)

    (5)
  • Roxana D.

In heaven, the fro yo will be from Yogurtland, but the ice cream will most definitely be from Lappert's. The only ice cream place that I love as much is Ici in Berkeley.

    (5)
  • Norm H.

This place is so good it's ridiculous. If you are looking for something refreshing or indulgent hit this place up. So many awesome options it's hard to pick just one or two. The anniversary flavor with a trio of coconut, raspberry, and passion fruit is insanely good. Lapperts is always worth a stop for a snack or some dessert!

    (5)
  • JJ L.

Disappointing. Had high expectations given the reviews below. It was good sure, but nothing special or all that unique. We had the Kona Lava Java and Kauai Pie on a waffle cup. All good, but again nothing all that special. I would rather have Papalani which is not too far from Lappert's.

    (3)
  • Marco M.

The woman who was behind the counter offered tastes which was nice. Had the Kauai Pie - coffee ice cream with a ripple of fudge, coco shavings and mac nuts. Heaven.

Coconut macadamia nut!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhh best ice cream on earth!! I ate one almost everyday on my last 2 trips! Why can't we have Ice cream like this in LA!

    (5)
  • Kristen H.

Our first morning in Kauai we waited 30 minutes for coffee at Starbucks. Driving back to the resort that day we drove past Lappert's and made a note to stop there the next morning for coffee - and subsequently every morning after! The Kauai Pie latte was dessert in cup. They have some fun specialty coffees that were a treat to have on vacation. They also had a bunch of fun ice cream flavors too. It was a coffee stop in the morning and ice cream in the evening. I would definitely recommend seeking them out for either while on the island - you won't be disappointed.

  • X-tine N.

I don't really think it's overpriced for ice cream. But then I also hate baskin robbins which is fairly cheap & poor quality. But anyhow I ended up having the pineapple coconut. Always a favorite. it went down surprisingly quick! Yes I only got a kiddie sized scoop but tonight I'll probably go crazy and get a real human sized scoop! My boyfriend got a triple summer berry & some sort of Hawaiian version of rocky road. He couldn't decide so the lady suggested he could get a 1/2 scoop of each flavor! Sweet! I guess if you're really crazy over it, they actually have an "I can't decide" which is like 5 or so half scoops in a waffle cone.

    (5)
  • Joe T.

Expensive. Expensive. Expensive. For mediocre ice cream, this is just too expensive. I got 2 scoops, my wife had 1. Hers was the size of a golf ball, we asked if it was the kiddie portion.... Nope. We won't go hear again. Koloa Mill much better ice cream and price.

In this newer shopping mall: Kukui`ula Village, just minutes walking distance away from the Sheraton, is LAPPERT'S ICE CREAM & COFFEE - a must for any visitor to the islands. It is FANTASTIC ice cream that pulls big island tropical flavors through and through. Depending on the location, there are anywhere between 20 and 30 UNIQUE flavors. Some that I have THOROUGHLY ENJOYED ON MY LAST TRIP ALONE ARE (yes, I ate all of that ice cream): Heavenly Hana - Creamy chocolate ice cream with delicate swirls of marshmallow ribboned throughout with our handmade chunks of white chocolate covered macadamia nuts, dark chocolate almond chunks, chocolate bits & roasted almonds. Big Island Inspiration - Vanilla ice cream with chunks of fudge brownies and chocolate Kauai Pie - Kona coffee ice cream swirled with chocolate fudge, coconut flakes, macadamia nuts and vanilla cake crunch Banana Fudge Caramel Coconut Macadamia Nut Kona Coffee Macadamia Nut Mini Peanut Butter Cup 'n Fudge White Chocolate Macadamia Nut and LILIKOI - passion fruit! AND at this particular location they also sell coffee and baked goods. Chocolate chip cookies are CHOCK full of chips. White chocolate macadamia cookies don't skimp on the chunks either! They even offer gelato - but I say skip that stuff - that's not what they're good at.

Located in an upscale shopping center in Poipu (next to Josselin's Tapas and Merriman restaurant), we stopped by for a morning cup of coffee on the way to the airport to head back home. The hot chai tea was really quite good (as was the vanilla latte). In addition to coffee and tea, they also have an assortment of ice cream, which, given the time of day, we skipped. Bad mistake. On the flight home, I come across an ad in a magazine that noted that the ice cream and coffee are freshly made on a daily basis in Kauai. Doh! Reason to come back!

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T COMBINE CARDS! WHERE IS THAT ON YOUR CARDS AND WHERE IS THERE A POLICY SIGN IN YOUR STORE? We forgot our card at the hotel... so we got another one... we had eight... wanted to get our eleventh free... and was rejected... WEAK SAUCE As for the ice cream-- I like Marianne's here in Santa Cruz... I wanted to try their coffee, but didn't get a chance.....

  • Valgar ..

The ice cream here is delicious! My wife loves this place, and we must have visited Lapperts on 5 different occasions. The coffee here is good too! I had the Kona coffee here and it was around $4.50 for a large. A little pricey for me, and it was okay coffee, but not for the price. I'll stick to their normal drip coffee. We wish there was a Lapperts on the mainland. Definitely a must for people who like ice cream!

Good coffee & ice cream and a very clean establishment. Although the service needs a little work.

Ahhhhhhh!!!! So many choices and being able to try the flavors before you buy does not help with your decision making if your are a indecisive person like me. This place is great whether you like ice cream, sorbet or a yummy coffee. I highly recommend it. Lip Smacking Ice Cream Dripping Down the Cone and on Your Hand Good Times.

We stumbled upon Lappert's Hawaii after dinner one evening just when we were craving a sweet treat. This ice cream and coffee shop also has some delicious cookies! I sampled the chocolate chip and macadamia chocolate chip cookies. These are the kind of cookies you crave! Soft, thick and full of chocolate chips and nuts, they melt in your mouth. What do we need to do get these on the Mainland? For more reviews and recipes, visit cookiesleuth.com .

Lapperts has gone way downhill ! Nice baked goods which are baked in the store. Ice cream can be excellent! However over the past 6 months their ice cream has been wildly inconsistent. Some batches being tasteless. When it's good it's excellent. Recently they changed their coffee ice cream and now it's the worst and tasteless. They Also have Gelato which is okay not anything real special. It's too sweet and not very creamy. The staff is super friendly. My other complaint is they don't have butter for their bakery which is a huge disservice to their excellent muffins. They have no wifi which has made me stop going there

    (1)
  • Jocelyn L.

i don't really get the ice-cream here. The texture is not very pleasant and there's always a weird aftertaste. It's also expensive...although the portions are pretty big. But i don't need big. I need Good Quality. Sorry...i can get ice-cream at other places...but there're definitely some unique Hawaii-inspired flavors here

Lapperts is a classic but now that they moved they are even better. The interior is very modern. Large menu, lots of flavors and even gelato. Flavors like Kauai pie always have me coming back. Get a stamp card so you can get anything off of the menu for free after you've filled it out.

    (4)
  • Sara N.

They serve ice cream, gelato, cookies, a few baked items, and coffee. They have classic and unique flavors. We tried the chocolate ice cream with oreo cookies and the coconut macadamia nut fudge ice cream in a freshly made waffle cone. Both were creamy, delicious, and unique. There is indoor and outdoor seating and they sell their packaged coffee in many different flavors. I had a sample of their chocolate gelato and it was very hard to choose for the flavors. It's worth stopping by if you are in the area. Get a few samples first to see what you really like.

Ok, it is the BEST. A required stop by my family. In a funky old building. Clean, courteous servers, and great, great ice cream with Hawaiian slant. Think macadamia anything, and they have it. One of my favorites, Coconut Macadamia Nut Fudge. Hmmmm! Don't miss it. A must stop!

yyuuummmmyyyyyyy!!! this area is full of little shops - its nice to walk around at night while eating your waffle cone. i sampled 3 flavors and decided on the big island. it was vanilla ice cream with chunks of brownie and macadamia shortbread cookies!! omg this in a waffle cone is a little piece of heaven!! the place was packed with tourists and locals all getting their cool ice cream treat!!

    (5)
  • Denise L.

you really cant pass by this place and not get anything! the sweet smells of their ice cream and goods is too hard to pass up! my friend got the coconut macadamia nut ice cream and it was sooooooo good! i got the chocolate mac nut cookie and it was delicious as well! nice little spot within the shopping mall.

    (4)
  • Katharine A.

I am with Henry L. I have tried to be impressed with this ice cream, but just can't. It is just OK. I think perhaps it has gone downhill from the "good old days?" I find it pretty standard in taste and flavor---and it is expensive and the lines long. If you are in town, and crave ice cream, by all means stops by....but special trip? I think not.

    (3)
  • Alex W.

I can only give Lapperts four stars because, despite having a great collection of ice cream and coffee, they have no bathrooms for me to review :(

YUUUUMMMM!! Caramel Coconut Macademia Nut ice cream in a waffle cone. This is the best ice cream. THE. BEST. The Kauai pie is amazing too.

  • Alex H.

the restaurans in this mall were very touristy and not great, but this was a great place for dessert after the whatever choices for dinner in the same mall. great island flavors that we always love, ie. mango, coconut, pineapple, mac nut, etc. the ice cream is creamy, which is how i like my ice cream.

    (5)
  • Cindy C.

Yummy. Ice Cream. Yummy. The unique, local flavors (try banana fudge or something with Kona coffee in it) are tasty and very creamy. Someone in my party order mint chocolate chip and said she can make better mint chocolate chip herself, so I suppose stay away from that flavor for sure. Doesn't hurt to try, but my vote on the island will be shave ice over ice cream, especially since often times shave ice comes with a scoop of mac nut ice cream anyway.

    (4)
  • Tawny A.

hands down, the best ice cream i have ever tasted! they have soooo many flavors it is really hard to choose just one or two! White Chocolate Macadamia Nut and Banana Fudge are my favorites but their Lilikoi sorbet is amazing also! The also make really good cookies, especially the macadamia nut dipped in chocolate! I love the smell of waffle cones drifting down Koloa town's wooden planks!

    (5)
  • David A.

My favorite ice cream. My favorite espresso drink. My favorite coffee beans. Lapperts has always set the bar for me. Take fresh coconut, macadamia nuts, hot fudge, fresh Kona beans, and blend them with cream cold or hot and you have something truly magic. I think the fact you can't just get it anywhere makes it all the more valuable. Still wish I could have it every single day though. ;) And love the new location! Much better than the one in Old Koloa town

    (4)
  • jessica w.

We have high ice cream expectations and this place is GREAT. The Love Potion (chocolate ice cream, raspberry sorbet and chocolate chunks) was amazing, especially when coupled with a fresh cup of coffee. It was the perfect evening treat! Outdoor seating available in a cute shopping area.

  • Jennifer D.

My mom has been talking up Lapperts since her first visit and finally I got to give them a try. OMG. So good. I particularly like the carmel, mac nut, coconut icecream. The staff were friendly, but there were not enough to manage the swarm of folks trying to buy and some customers were getting cranky.

    (4)
  • Anna P.

Although my local loyalties are with good ol' Fenton's, there are times one must be real. When it comes to ice cream, you gotta be real. Lappert's serves the best ice cream in the United States, if not the world. They have hands down the BEST waffle cones you will ever have. That's why I yelled. The BEST. You can get the simplest vanilla, and it was taste better than any previous vanilla you have tried. The consistency, sweetness, and texture of the ice cream is perfection. Combine this with the fact that you are enjoying a giant cold cone of happiness in a tropical paradise, the warm moist breeze massaging your skin, and the intoxicating smell of sea salt, sand, coconut, and plumeria wafting about you.... Lets just say this is the BEST ice cream you will both taste and experience. Oh and might I recommend the Marble Fudge flavor? MmmmMMMmmm.

    (5)
  • Jennifer L.

The aroma of waffle cones and chocolate chip cookies baking is enough to tempt any sweet-lover into this ice cream paradise (so much so that most of the surrounding stores post signs saying you can't bring ice cream into their stores!). I hate to admit that I don't go for the fancy Hawaiian flavors, but the hubby and I have found a flavor combo here that we think is unbeatable: mini chocolate peanut butter cup ice cream with hot fudge on top. It is a delightfully melty chocogasm. The quality of the ice cream, peanut butter cups, and fudge are top notch! Warning: This is not a place to frequent if you want to look good in your swim suit.

    (5)
  • Duckie A.

I like the new location but the old on was much more cute. :o) Their ice cream is super delicious. I had the Roasted Banana and it was the best!! They've got other things like pastries if you're not into the cold stuff, but everything is yummy! :D

    (4)
  • Van V.

If you're on vacation, take a break from your usual Starbucks fix and get your coffee here instead. It's SOOOO TASTY. Came here every morning for it. And every night this was the best spot for dessert. My fave is Tutu's anniversary- coconut ice cream with raspberry and passion fruit sorbet. The perfect balance of creamy decadence and refreshing tartness! I tried the Kauai pie, just too sweet for me. Try everything. It's fun place.

    (4)
  • Mike R.

sour cream blackberry crumble, kona coffee, and banana fudge are my favorites! always great service!

    (5)
  • Sarah R.

We stopped in after Bubba's Burgers. Husband had a Kona Blue Mauka coffee, and although it was very good, he thinks it was overpriced. I had a scoop of Christmas crunch ice cream. It was good, but not nearly as tasty as the gelato we had last night. So overall it was good but not outstanding. However, we may go back in the morning for pastries and I may have to update after I have one of those scrumptious looking cinnamon rolls!

    (4)
  • Benjamin L.

Delicious ice cream and sorbet. Love the macadmia nut-encrusted waffle cones. It's a good thing we live a couple thousand miles away, because this stuff is addictive. When we come back to Kauai, and I hope it's soon, this'll be one of the first places we hit.

    (5)
  • Jill M.

Coffee and ice cream; how could you go wrong?! This is a neat location--nice patio outside, near unique stores, very clean. The selection of ice-creams was wide and unique, and the coffee was excellent. The prices were higher than I'm used to paying at home, but I felt like the quality was definitely good.

    (4)
  • Josh J.

The highlight of this trip was the waffle cone my ice cream came in. Other than that, tiny scoops for $3+ and so-so ice cream. I got white chocolate macadamia nut ice cream. Expected to have white chocolate in my ice cream...none. No taste of it whatsoever. Staff was marginally friendly, but that won't save this place from getting one star. Won't be back.

    (1)
  • Chris M.

If you've had better ice cream than this, I want to know where, so I can try it. The coconut pineapple blew my mind. It was so creamy, and the flavors were so well balanced! The coffee ice cream with coconut and other bits was fine too, I just don't really care for the stringy texture of grated coconut in ice cream. I think the dipped waffle cone may have been the best I've ever had. Now if only they would keep some decaf in stock...

    (5)
  • Antonio L.

Went here once while on the island recently. Good ice cream. A good variety of flavors and what I ultimately had was very good and generous. 1 scoop is basically 2 scoops, so I ordered 2 scoops in a waffle cone and got a TON of ice cream. Some of the flavors seemed like they were a little past their prime sitting in the freezer, at least visually. Not quite as good as Papalani Gelato, at least not to me, but overall very good and I would certainly not hesitate eating there again and again.

    (4)
  • Nichole B.

Hubby and I both got ice cream. It was delectable and costly.

like others have mentioned, the old koloa town location is closed. it moved to Kukui'ula Village, which is really close to the traffic circle heading towards poipu, sheraton, etc. this new location has plenty of seating indoors and out, and is larger than the old town koloa location. this place is a MUST try in hawaii! their flavors are so different from the ones here on the mainland (e.g. hermosa beach location). i don't think anyone who loves ice cream could leave here unhappy, except for their slightly steep prices! a single scoop cost about $4 (or just under). add a waffle cone or cup, and you're looking at $5. (i guess long gone are the days of thrifty ice cream prices. heehee) they have a frequent "eater" card, so be sure to get one! 10 ice cream purchases will get you a free cone. i don't feel like any trips to hawaii are complete without a scoop of ice cream from lappert's! heehee...=)

Yummy!!! Yummy!!! And my latte...was done perfectly!!! And I'm very particular. Service...awesome!

  • Jonny H.

We came here after we had lunch at Merriman's (this is the one in the Kukuiula Shopping Village) We love ice-cream and had to try a local favorite. We had a single scoop of the Kona Lava Java, it was excellent (5 stars) and a single scoop of the Kauai Pie (4 stars). We actually came back here two nights later to have another scoop of the Lava Java, so we have to give this place a 5 star rating.

  • Dan W.

Do not miss Lappert's. We tried the macadamia, caramel coconut ice cream, the lilikoi sorbet, and the Tutu's anniversary (coconut ice cream with lilikoi mixed in). All sizes available from keiki to huge. An island tradition.

    (5)
  • Marcus L.

Lapperts has common ice cream flavors but are given a twist with local Hawaiian flavors. I got the Coconut Caramel Macadamia Nut. Instead of using bits and pieces of nuts, there were whole nuts which I loved. It was a little too sweet, but whats ice cream without the sugar? Again, like any other chain store in Hawaii, its over priced, but live a little, you are on vacation right?!?

    (4)
  • Katie M.

We thankfully stumbled upon Lappert's on our family trip to Kauai...in mid-August. It was a particularly balmy day and my kids were wilting like sad little plumeria. My oldest son is allergic to milk, but we happily found that Lappert's had a great selection of sorbet that was milk-free! It was a bright spot on our trip.

    (5)
  • Mimi D.

There are multiple locations on the island, and it's basically a local man's Baskin Robbins. There were several flavors that we don't have at home such as passion fruit and tons of macadamia nut and coconut combos. The service is better at some than others, and the selection is better at some than others. Some of them are fancy and even carry coffee and pastries. My favorite was Tutu's anniversary which was a swirl of coconut, passion fruit and raspberry and it was so much more amazing than rainbow sherbet. We went to Lappert's every single day of our trip and sometimes twice a day.

Ice cream so good that if I was their corporate attorney, I'd seriously advise them to change their business name from "Lapperts" to "Straight-to-Your-Thighs," or "STYT" for short. Hello? Truth in advertising anyone? In fact, I'm going to go ahead and annoint this particular location with that new name. No longer shall anyone who has read this review refer to this locale as "Lapperts," instead, it shall be "Straight-to-Your-Thighs" as that more accurately embodies the creamy essence of their delectable product offerings. Thus sayeth the Hannah. Also, thus sayeth the me: Damn! How slap happy fat fabulous and worth every calorie of straight-to-your-thighs-ness is this ice cream? Especially the pecan flavor. Thank god if you can't afford the plane tickets, you have a really long swim to make it to a Lapperts. And don't anyone go and tell me there's any on the mainland. I don't want to know about it.*** The swim to Kauai from the SF Bay just about burns off a triple-scoop of decadence, so make me work for it! Oh, and this "Straight-to-Your-Thighs" location is quite cute in a little strip of Old Koloa Town stores (mostly tourist tchachkis, but a decent gallery is thrown into the mix). ***originally wrote this review on 8/22/07... Have since discovered through a completely random path that not only is Lappert's corporate office on the mainland, but it's in RICHMOND, which is just around the corner from me... AND there are 2 Lappert's (STYT's) in Sausalito, which is ALSO just around the corner from me... AND GET THIS.... no shit - this is totally true... the owner / CEO of Lappert's is the vice mayor of Corte Madera, my new home town. I'm DOOMED, DOOMED I tell you!!! Thank bejesus that I found Ultimate Fitness ( yelp.com/biz/Aw-j-FtmKIH… )

Best coffee and ice cream on Kauai, in my opinion. Great charm in this place, friendly bunch... strong brew, tasty ice cream. What more is there to say?

Delicious and refreshing ice cream, but a little expensive (sundaes) and super, super busy with kids running around and yelling. We visited on a Saturday night and thought that the overworked employees behind the counter were going to blow their brains out!

"Small" scoops are actually quite large and the flavor selection is great. If you need a snack/dessert to have with you as you walk the mall or just need something to cool off with, stop here. It's worth it.

Color me unimpressed. The ice cream is just ok. I think I've been spoiled by better ice cream on the mainland or perhaps my tastes have drifted more towards gelato these days. If you come here, try and get the local style flavors rather than say, chocolate chip mint. I had two scoops: banana fudge and Kauai pie (kona coffee, fudge, coconut shaving, and macadamia nut chips). The flavors were all pretty good, but I guess I was expecting to be blown away.

Blah blah blah, it's expensive. Of course it is, it's ice cream in the middle of the ocean... Read the history posted on the wall of the little shack... pretty interesting! Didn't take much of a genius to figure, make ice cream where it's hot, but the flavors they've come up with are great and have all the local flair any ice cream place here would need. A MUST for any visitor wanting to see what Kauai has to offer it's locals.

Love the local charm of this place. Super tasty ice cream with fresh ingredients (which just happens to taste even BETTER if you're in Hawaii!). Caramel, coconut, macadamia nut - how can you go wrong?...

I'm so glad I saw an ad for this place in one of those tourist magazines. The ice creams were phenomenal. We thought this location was adorable and the servers let us sample about 5 flavors before we finally decided on Kauai Pie and coconut macadamia nut fudge. a

Ice cream seemed like the perfect option for a mini-lunch on a hot day after hanging out in Koipu. We ended up in Koloa and were enticed by Lappert's selection. D really loved his pineapple and coconut scoops, and I found my guava sorbet a lot more worthwhile for thickening my midsection than the green tea flavor. My advice would be to stick with the tropical fruit flavors if anything, and probably the sorbet over the ice cream (the dairy-based ice creams lacked that indescribable creamy umph found in truly excellent ice cream). But $17 for two ice creams and a water? Damn, Gina! Broke da mouf?* A little, but moreso the wallet. *D and I have discovered the phrase 'broke da mouf' and thinks it's the best and funniest thing ever, so all Kauai restaurant reviews this trip will have a 'broke da mouf' rating."

Great ice cream that is made in Kauai. Taste and price is comparable to Ben & Jerry's but I think everything tastes better in Hawaii. I recommend eating outside, on the benches... great atmosphere with the wooden boardwalk and sites of old Koloa town. Didn't try the coffee or the bakery treats but they looked & smelled good.

Sooo good! I think I had "Kauai Java" or something like that, in a waffle cone that had been dipped in chocolate and macadamia nuts..... it was heavenly!

Had a scoop of guava ice cream and caramel cashew cluster. The guava is very good. A must try if you like guava. They both had lots of flavor. They have a lot of flavors and they will let you sample them.

I died and went to heaven when I tried the caramel turtle ice cream. Never again will another ice cream taste so good. I have been ruined for life.

Did not try the ice cream, but instead treated myself to a cup of genuine Kona coffee. At $4/cup, I had high expections and they were met by the delicousness of the brew. At that price, it wouldn't be a three cup a day habit, but glad I got to try it.

Lappert's Ice Cream is now my best friend! I live in Oakland and there are a couple ice cream shops that serve Lappert's but I have never had flavors like the ones here! There are special Hawaiian flavors, my faves were the mango, kona coffee, and the kona coffee with fudge. Don't forget to get it in a waffle cone! As you can see we went back a few times!

I aboslutely LOVE their coffee here, they have the yummiest flavors like Chocolate Macadamia Nut, and their Kona coffee (get the whole bean) is a little pricey but so worth it. Their coffee houses are all cozy on the inside and they have cute mugs and stuff.

It's hard to mess up ice cream, but Lappert's makes even more delicious ice cream than your typical chain. I liked it so much we came here twice. This particular location was my favorite because I like the benches and storefronts in Koloa. Like others have said, go for the Kauai Pie on a waffle cone. The single scoops are huge, almost worth the $5 for your cone.

All I've ever had there is the Kauai Pie. It is expensive + it is delicious= it is worth it. Once a trip. That is all.

OK ice cream, but you can get much better elsewhere. Really yummy pastries, especially the macademia/cranberry muffins. Cute location, you have to love Old Koloa town (It's a very expensive but charming town). Decent coffee, not the best, but it's your only option in the area.

My co-worker who used to live in Kauai told me to check out lappert's bc they have the best ice cream on the island. It was definitely good, as it should be bc the ice cream was so expensive! I had a scoop of mango and it was so creamy and fruity, very good! My bf had mocha with a chocolate cone and im assuming he really liked it bc he got ice cream all over his face and shirt =P It was located in a cute little town with gift shops and discount stores that were pretty cool!

Yes, the place is not exactly cheap but the ice cream is simply delicious. They have more traditional flavors like strawberry and they also have some more unique stuff, like white chocolate with macadamia nuts (super yummi) and coconut.

This is just some fantastic ice cream. Sure, I'd been on a long hike and a restricted-calorie diet, but I still know fine ice cream when I taste it. We got it all over our faces, like little kids. It's so creamy and fresh tasting, like someone's grandma is back there with a churn. It's a Must See.

Rich, yummy goodness! Try the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut or Heavenly Hana. A must for all Kauai visitors.
