I like the openness of the restaurant. It was roomy, high ceilings, we sat by the door by the little fish pond to get some air. My little girl had a mini loco moco, which was a good portion. It had one egg and one good sized party smothered in gravy. I got the teriyaki chicken which came with rice and a salad. I was a little hesitant to have the side salad because of a review I saw on here. But my lettuce was crisp and fresh. My bf got a kalua pig burrito. Its not as big as Olympic cafe's one, but its pretty good. He asked for a side of chips to eat it with. Took a little while to get them, but I didnt know they were making them fresh. They were so good fresh! It was a reasonable price for our breakfast. The only thing I didn't like was the mimosas was $7. That's kind of high. $5 is pushing it, but $7 is going kind of high.

My wife and I were hopeful for another great sushi experience in Hawaii. This place was a nightmare. We strolled in at 5pm on a weeknight back in January 2013. We ordered 3 different rolls and all of them lacked flavor with one tasting old and extra fishy. Sure enough I felt shitty the next two days and my wife couldn't even get out of bed. We lost 2 days of honeymooning because of the food poisoning caused by this place. I say AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It would take an exorcism for me to return here for anything other than directions to a better restaurant.

When visiting the beautiful island of kauai, youre going to want an equally beautiful meal. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE! The wait staff were beyond rude, they were completely unattentive, I had to order my drink as she walked away since they never asked for orders. Beside that it took ten minutes just to get them to see we were ready. Once the food was ordered it took forever to come out. So to make it better we were served our toast with no jam. Took another twenty minutes to get the waitresses attention to ask for jam and by then the toast was cold. When the returned from reheating the toast still no jam or food. The bread was cold by the second time we asked for jam, which was brown and unedible anyway. Finally our food arrived and awful. I had seafood eggs benedict and was served breading on toast with butter, not hollandaise, butter. My daughter ordered a simple denver omlette which arrived with cold cheese on top no tomatoes like she asked and raw peppers. So if you are looking for a nice meal, do yourself a favor and skip the Island Palm.

They recently opened up for dinner hours with an all Thai menu. I tried the Thai iced tea, trying to be adventurous. It was okay, but that might just be me. For dinner, my husband and I tried the coconut chicken soup. We ordered medium, and it was not that spicy. It had a creamy texture with enough for us both to have 3 (very small) bowls. For entrees, my husband had the red curry. He had ordered medium, but asked for hot after tasting the soup. He likes spicy things more than me. He got sticky rice with it. He was very hungry and ate it all. He really enjoyed it. I got the house curry, medium hot, with brown rice. I also really enjoyed it, but was less hungry so I took the rest home. The server was fantastic. She never let our glasses get empty. Look for coupons in one of the many books out there. We saved 15% on food. We would go back again!

Stopped in on our last day in Kauai. At 8:15 in the morning it wasn't horribly busy. I ordered the ham and cheese omelette my wife had the ham and eggs. The omelette was good but wasn't great. What you would usually come across as far as flavor and what not. So not really let down or upset. The ham eggs was good and same about how it wasn't overly fantastic or a let down. All in all, I say a descent breakfast. I would recommend it as far as the classic breakfast goes.

We stopped on our way to hanalei bay from poipu. The staff was so friendly. I had the Denver omelet with hashbrowns and my husband had the seafood Benedict with fried rice. We both really liked what we ordered and portions were hearty. We were seated by a window seat and the freSh air felt great. Would def. Recommend.

I have no idea what the people giving high reviews are talking about or whether their experience was real, but based on food alone, this place deserves less than 1 star. We had a group a 5 and ordered from all over their menu and the only edible item was an omelet. We came across the place while driving to Kapa'a and thought it looked cute. We sat down with high hopes, but were sorely disappointed. The seafood benedict was ordered by two of us - one with hash browns and one with fried rice. The hollandaise sauce looked very off - almost separated. After stirring, we tried a little before pouring on the dish. It was so bad it almost made me gag - it tasted like raw flour and raw egg. So, I attempted by meal without. The egg tasted like it was expired and was so overcooked (a poached egg should have a runny yolk). The seafood was awful and the English muffin was very soggy. The fried rice had good flavor, but was very crunchy. The hash browns were about the size of half a deck of cards on the plate - very stingy. Another person ordered the fish sandwich. The fries were good, but the fish was very bland - no flavor at all. A club sandwich sounded like a safe bet, but the cheese was sweating like it had been out a long time and the bread was very soggy. Again, the fries were pretty good. Lastly, we got an omelet, which was actually fairly good with the miniscule hash browns and a very expensive short stack, which was tasty if not a little doughy. Advice to the owner - get a new cook and get another waitress. Your place has potential, but the food is absolutely horrendous as-is.

Best seafood Benedict on Kauai. My husband and I try to go every time we are in Kapaa. Food is great and so is the staff.
(5)Patricia B.
The food was fresh, vibrant and delicious. We had shrimp pad Thai and cashew chicken. Both were outstanding and I'm excited to explore the rest of the menu. Island palm is really clean with open air dining and really great service. Best Thai on Kauai. Will go again and again.
(5)Kelli F.
Not that good!!! My husband and I got cheeseburgers, very weird consistency! Server was lost! Won't come again!!!!
(2)Raquel G.
Kealoha is the best waitress on the island! She was fast, friendly & a good time. The food is great & the price is right!
(5)CC H.
Great food, not crowded on Sunday late morning. The patio is nice with a fountain, The inside light and airy. Our server Berna, was very sweet and attentive. I had Tai ice tea to start, then the kalua pork burrito which was really yummy. Ask fur the special homemade hot salsa if you like spicy. My husband had the Sleeping Giant omelet which he liked. The price was great, and we got a coupon for 15% off in the Free Kauai coupon book you can find around town or at the airport.

Today was a first visit for us! We have lived on Kauai for 3 years & never visited. We walked in at 11:30am and the place was empty. There were two philipino ladies sitting off on the side. We were greeted right away by one of them. I wanted to check out their menu. The place seemed clean and nicely decorated. The lady was friendly too. She seated us and asked us what we wanted to drink. We said water was fine. What made me rate this resturaunt low, is She when she brought us the water she then lingered there with her pad and pen while we looked over the menu. It was creepy & made me feel uncomfortable. I even said to her, "you are making me nervous". She said it's ok, take your time & she moved slightly to the side, still waiting for us! We finally ordered our food. My husband ordered an omelet and I ordered fish & chips with side salad. She soon brought out my salad and some read, then stood two tables away and hovered near us. I'm like, I wanna go...this gal is creeping me out! Then, I looked at her and she looked away. She was stating! What saved our meal, was another couple came in for lunch! Thank goodness...cause I was freaking out about then! She wasn't overly attentive after that. She filled our waters and cleared our plates. It was a good meal. Good portions and well cooked. The food was great....I would suggest if you do end up in this restraunt - make sure you aren't the only ones there! Haha

I really like this place! Both times I've come I got the Denver Omelette, scrambled style. It's never crowded and service is pretty good. Recommended:)
(4)Jamie M.
We came here for breakfast yesterday. Between the four of us we got the Denver omelet, the Sleeper? omelet, eggs benedict, and french toast. Everything was fantastic! I had an omelet with kahlua pig and Portuguese sausage that I think was called the sleeper omelet, and it was amazing!!!! Get this. It's one of the last omelets listed on the menu. I got the fried rice at the recommendation of another Yelper as a side, and I can also say that the fried rice is better than average. My omelet also came with toast. It was a good-sized portion, and it cost $13.95. The male waiter we had was very attentive and constantly filled our water glasses. My order came out wrong, and he immediately noticed and apologized before I even said anything. My correct order came out in less than a few minutes, before anyone had really started eating. Great food and service! Must try.

On our way to the airport heading home, we pulled in for some breakfast. We thought that the nice "island" decor would be an indicator of the quality inside the restaurant. We could not have been more wrong. When we entered, there were only two or three other tables occupied by small groups of less than four. Our group (7 people) was seated promptly near a large window by one of only two waitstaff members. The other waiter returned to take our drink order ($3.00 for a six oz glass of orange juice, no refills!) and seemed very stressed, despite the sparse amount of patrons. When he returned to take our meal orders, my father ordered the Eggs Benedict, and was immediately asked how he would like his eggs! (Anyone familiar with that dish knows that the eggs come poached. That's one of the defining qualities of the meal) The waiter did the same thing to my mother. My husband ordered a House Salad with bleu cheese dressing. The dressing that arrived was congealed and discolored and was decidedly NOT bleu cheese. (Or at least, had not been bleu cheese for several days) The waiter acted very frustrated when my husband asked for ranch as a substitute, questioning my husband's impression of the bleu cheese. We then waited for at least ten minutes, watching as two tables of people who arrived after us (one party the same size as ours: 7 people) got their food. Eventually, the waiter brought out my parents' Eggs Benedict. My father took one look at the raw, runny egg mess all over his plate and said "That's disgusting! I can't eat that!" The waiter's response? "But it's okay, right?" Not so much. Immediately after this, the waiter delivered a plate of food to a small table behind us which was sent back for having the wrong side dish. My food was the last to arrive. It took them 45 minutes to make a short stack of strawberry pancakes, which tasted vile. The strawberries were VERY old, and the pancakes were tough and tasted stale. This place was a terrible send-off as we were on our way to the airport, heading home. Although I won't have the opportunity to vote with my wallet on Kauai anytime soon, I urge you to listen to my warning and stay away from this place. You will pay way too much money for terrible service and disgusting food. Don't even bother.

Small quite place for breakfast. Food was a good portion not too big or too small. Our waitress was supper nice. Coffee was great
(5)Lala Q.
So, so bad. The waitress brought my salad and said "that doesn't look appetizing to me at all" (not jokingly). Ummm, thanks...ate my wilted lettuce with four not ripe yet slices of tomatoes with a side of overlooked, dry, too-salty fried rice (I have no idea how anyone would recommend it). Turned out the waitress was right.

We went here twice in a week, and ordered the same thing each time. I had the French Dip and the Misses got the Loco Moco. The first day the french dip was very, very good. Nice slices of roast, tons of garlic in the au jus. The second time it was sliced lunch meat, and not much garlic in the au jus. Very inconsistent if you ask me. The first time the Misses ordered the Loco Moco it had two very flavorful handmade patties. Very good. The second time, they had one handmade flavorful patty, and one frozen. WTF? Nice servers though, but inconsistent. Small parking lot too.

Giving this restaurant a 5 star review to balance out the unfairly poor rating from Sara W., who is for no reason whatsoever, a harsh judge. She got quick service and great food, but wasn't impressed by the "warmth" and apparently wanted to wait. What I am learning from my time here on Kauai (4 days now) is that there are sooooooo many places to eat and fewer tourists than on other islands - aka no wait time at most places. Be happy Sara, you were in paradise and the Island Palm is a great place. Why lower a star rating because YOU feel meh about insignificant details like how full the place is? @yelp - need to be able to call people out on lame reviews.
(5)Richie D.
Fried rice was very good, not too busy for a late breakfast. Great atmosphere and amazing people. Everyone is just so helpful and friendly. The light breakfast was just right
(4)Wayne K.
For breakfast, island Palm can do better. But for Hawaiian style breakfast with white rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage and/or spam, it woulda coulda shoulda been good enough. But I made the mistake of going with fried rice instead of white rice. It was made ahead of time and was mushy. I could do it more better myself! Service was ok but next time ill just go back to Tip Top, Country Kitchen, Waipoli, Ono or one of the other places that just serves up the basic rice, eggs and meat.
(3)Joann H.
Yum way to start my day. Aloha! eggs, rice and Portuguese sausage. Friendly service and just a good way to start the trip.
(3)Jana A.
We were craving for an American breakfast so while cruising one early morning, we seen their banner that said breakfast. Glad we went came here! We had the seafood eggs benedict, spinach omelette, and banana pancakes. We all sampled each others choice of breakfast and it was deliciONO! Our waitress was Vicky (I think that was her name) and she was GREAT!! Loved her recommendations! Will definitely come back here with the whole ohana :)

This should really be 2 1/2 stars, I feel bad giving them 2 but 3 is too many IMO. I've decided that good food on Kauai is either hard to find or simply nonexistent. I was hopeful that with the place we were in we could get at least some decent sushi. Nope, I was wrong. We went here for dinner, probably around 7pm. There were maybe 4 other tables seated when we got there. We were greeted and promptly seated, brought water and had our drink order taken. We each got a bottle of a local beer at $4 each. We then ordered 4 rolls and waited. The service was quick, I felt bad for our server though. I think he may have some sort of social disorder, he seemed very uncomfortable and would not make eye contact. Whatever, we got our drinks and food in a decent amount of time so that's fine. He did check on us and see if we needed or wanted anything else. We ordered the wontons, they had some sort of fish in them that was pretty good. I don't think it said on the menu what they were stuffed with, but whatever it was I liked it. The sushi was weird. I don't tend to think of myself as a food snob at all, heck I'll eat a good burrito any day of the week or some cheap sushi here in San Diego without complaint. This sushi had WAY too much rice, the rolls weren't rolled tight enough and kept falling apart and one of them had big chunks of tuna on the top. I've never seen fish cut that way for sushi, it was really strange. It didn't taste bad, but it did look odd. They like the creamy based sauces here, I tend to like eel sauce to dip in but they didn't seem to have that. All in all the food wasn't terrible, the service was prompt but not too friendly with our waiter. There was another waiter there who seemed very friendly with his customers. I wouldn't go back here again, at least not for dinner.

Breakfast experience: Tiny glass of orange juice for $3? That's kin to a hotel's patron robbery, and it's not even fresh squeezed. Server added coffee to cup without asking first. Don't they understand some folks add cream and sweetener to taste? Always ask first, and don't go diluting someone's morning beverage. Claimed Eggs Benedict had homemade hollandaise sauce, maybe it is true, but it had a mayonnaise texture and flavor to it... Does hollandaise sauce have mayo??
(2)Abdul K.
Don't be fooled be the lovely decor, our food was terrible. My club sandwich was made with really cheap turkey lunch meat loaded with filler. My toast was rock hard as well. My wife's eggs were burnt to a crisp and service is painfully slow. The coffee had a very strange bitter taste- the only bad coffee on the island! Their House special is admittedly made with canned Costco gravy.. No thanks. People were very nice though.

2-star food at 4-star prices.
(2)Josh C.
Great breakfast. No crowds. Try the sleeping giant.
(5)Leslie S.
Excellent service! We stopped here for a quick breakfast and bloody marys before a long day at the beach. We were a large party of 8, 4 of which were kids. Staff was so nice, accomodating, attentive - food was good but not excellent. Would recommend this place if you'd like a quick and friendly, affordable, place to stop.
(4)Chris B.
Excellent food. Great steak, fish, and chicken.
(5)Cyndi W.
The worst food that we had on the island in 8 days!
(1)Duane H.
not sure why they call this place a grill and bar. All we did was have two of the nicest breakfasts we got during our stay. Stormy was particularly enchanted by spam and eggs. Classic Hawaiian. Staff were incredibly friendly.
(4)Valerie K.
We had a great breakfast here! Tons of food comes with each order. I had a veggie omelette, with tons veggies came in this. The man got steak and eggs and was also very pleased! Be prepared to share your space with wild chickens, but you'll have tht in all of Kauai so no big deal.
(4)Sara W.
again, another disappointingly average breakfast spot...do Kauai-ans not care much for a solid start to their day with a foundation-setting breakfast? we decided to try this place as it was seemingly well reviewed. I shoulda known better when I rolled up and barely any seats were filled. Sat promptly, we looked over the underwhelming menu. they had a couple of intriguing twists on the eggs benedict which I sorta liked...they know how to cook eggs properly which I appreciate. The food came pretty quick, which I appreciate. The lady servers weren't very warm/friendly at all which was just whatever. My benny was just fine, as was the husbands meal. Overall just not impressive or worth mentioning. I say skip it, unless there's something I shoulda ordered that I didn't that is ah-mazing.

Haw I say before everything perfect and fresh, Sushi and Sashimi and more...,

24 September 2010 The Island Palm Island Style Grill & Bar was almost empty when we pulled into the parking lot. We thought that maybe Kapaa was a sleepy town (even though it was a Friday night) and decided to give the place a chance. I probably would not give this restaurant a second one. The decor was nice and the food was good, but it took over 30 minutes for our entrées to come out (we were the only people in the restaurant). Coupled with mediocre service, the experience wasn't worth the high menu prices.
(2)Bruce A.
We liked the dill garlic sauce on the Kamaaina Burger! Service was a little slow and the place is not air conditioned. It was a late lunch so perhaps things are better during normal hours. The waitress was nice, but the only one working. I will try one more time the next time I am back in Kapa'a.
(3)Andy W.
I had fried eggs with fried rice and portuguese sausage. I've been eating linguica (portuguese sausage) my whole life and this was nothing like the stuff I've had growing up. I don't know if it's an island thing but it was so bland. When I looked around YELP and found pictures of it from other Kauaiian eateries, it was all the same. The stuff in California stains your hands it's so spiced. ANYWAY, I went for something really different on my first day in town and the eggs on the fried rice was good but I still felt like i should have gone with my old reliable, bacon and eggs. They brought out my wheat toast way before our main dishes so it got kind of cold by the time I was ready to eat it. My wife got the eggs benedict and wasn't terribly impressed since we have a favorite place back home. The eggs were cooked to her liking and the hollandaise was good. It was the smallest serving of hash browns we'd ever seen however. Prices were acceptable I guess. It is the island after all. We won't be going back because we found better places to have breakfast and are still looking for others.
(3)Vanessa B.
Don't do it. Really horrible sushi, bad service. Stay away.
(1)S M.
Awesome!!! Prices were reasonable for the island. Dave, our server, was super friendly and attentive! The sushi was so fresh and tasty - a real treat! Our entrees were equally amazing! Can't wait to go back!
(5)diane d.
This place was outstanding! I was shocked to see the low rating when I logged on to rate them. We ordered a calamari appetizer and a few sushi rolls. The calamari was fresh and tender. The sushi was fresh and delicate. The service was outstanding. The only recommendation I would have is to wrap the roll a little bit tighter. I seriously don't understand the lackluster ratings with my fellow yelpers. I will definitely go again!
(5)Frank M.
Very good pork sandwich . Great ambiance. Service was very good. Definitely recommend for lunch (which is what we ate here).
(4)No Kids Around N.
Not sure what is going on with the reviews, but breakfast was good. I ordered the Sleeping Giant omelette and it was FANTASTIC! Service was attentive. You have got to try that omelette though! I ordered it with cheddar, other option was Swiss. My boyfriend Ordered a regular breakfast with bacon and eggs but he couldn't keep his hands off of the omelette. Inside this omelette was Kailua pig, sausage, onion, spinach and cheddar. Must try! Not to mention it was quite relaxing with waterfalls and comfortable seating.
(3)Darren W.
We had dinner here.I wasn't impressed with the food. It was a bit overpriced in my opinion. The starting price for most meals was around $15 and goes up from there. The service was fine. The atmosphere was quiet, almost too quiet of that makes sense. It's not someplace I would eat at again. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner.
(2)Dana D.
We stopped in to grab breakfast before heading to the airport. I noticed we were the only customers seated. the other people that were seated appeared to be staff with nothing to do. Our waitress did not seem to know much about the menu when I asked her if the Ruben sandwich came with thousand island dressing she was unsure and did not check with the kitchen so to be on the safe side i ordered dressing on the side. My sandwich came with both copious amounts of stock thousand island slathered on top and a little cup of it on the side. When asked if there was horseradish in the kitchen she was unsure and again appeared to not have asked the cook. My boyfriend ordered the kamaina burger which came with a "garlic dill sauce" which turned out to have very little if any garlic and had a grayish/green hue that i found odd and Its texture was equally unappealing. My boyfriend described it as a kale mayo flavored substance. If i return I will stick to the basic breakfast fare of eggs, hotcakes and coffee. Cant get that wrong, right?
(2)MaomingSweetiepie Z.
we had breakfast here twice on a recent visit to kauai. liked it so much the first time we went back. fried rice is great and portuguese sausage is above average. wife had the mahi mahi omelete. not sure why the ratings on yelp aren't higher. service was fast and friendly. i admit the decor of the restaurant is a little odd. we definitely plan to return here on our next island visit.
(5)Michael A.
We had breakfast here and it was a good start to our vacation. I had the kalua pork omelet with white rice and it was very good. The service was fast and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I never had to ask for a refill on coffee or water. I would recommend this place for breakfast.
(4)Dan G.
Definitely the best loco moco on the island. Omelets are awesome. Regular Bacon and Egg, very good. Service was excellent. My family came here for breakfast and we were not disappointed (you will not be disappointed either). Didn't have to ask to have my coffee refilled once, that's excellent service.
(5)Jennifer K.
I was very sad to see this place got such bad reviews on yelp! Are Hawaiian yelpers crazy? My husband I were actually headed to a different breakfast spot that was recommended to us but couldn't find it. We were very hungry (and impatient) so when we saw their BREAKFAST sign, we were in. This is the BEST breakfast I have EVER had and I am so serious! I ordered the Seafood Omelet (Swiss, shrimp, scallops, and fresh catch) their were a few traditional sides but our waitress recommended the fried rice. This seemed very strange to me but I gave it a shot. Sooo glad I did, I could have eaten a plate of the rice alone but it complimented my omelet perfectly! My hubby got the seafood eggs Benedict with (perfectly crispy) hashbrowns and he was super happy. Atmosphere was adorable with seating inside and out with tiki hut umbrellas outside. The only con... THE BILL, $34 for breakfast for two?? I asked for some chives on top of my omelet, which they were happy to oblige for $2 extra (for a sprinkle of chive!?), in their defense, I was told that when ordering and I went for it anyway. I still stick with my 5 star review, breakfast was awesome. Just be prepared to spend some $$!
(5)Sue S.
Island Palms is a breakfast/Lunch place in Kapaa just north of the Safeway. We had a great lunch there, though someone there told us the breakfasts were awesome. And I will say the breakfast menu looked really good. What can you do to a club sandwich, but my husband's club sandwich was on really good bread with fresh tasty bacon -- every thing about it was just really good. I had the catch of the day, which turned out to be mahi mahi with a mango-paypaya sauce. Yum. I chose rice and a salad instead of fries and stir fried veg, and they were very nice. The building is really beautiful and the decor is lovely. There are nice island style paintings and very humorous and unusual sculptures .It's an open air restaurant which I appreciate in the islands. The service was great and the people were fun. I thought the prices were reasonable.
(5)Jenny H.
Dinner....not so good, came cold, salad bar, pathetic! Only 2 to 3 tables full, and they couldn't keep up, had a party of 8 that threw them all off. So, food tasted okay, but overpriced for service and food!
(2)Lisa K.
This place doesn't even deserve one star. Perfect example of not judging a book by it's cover. I should have guessed it was terrible when I saw very few people dining there during a peak hour. I ordered the French dip and the waiter exclaimed it was the "best on the island". Imagine my disappointment when he served me what I can only assume was beef jerky in between 2 pieces of bread. Not to mention the salt content was enough to put me into cardiac arrest (and I LOVE salt!! Really, I overdo it so if I think it's salty. It's salty) it was so bad I lost my appetite, which doesn't happen to me. So when he asked if he could have it remade I politely declined. I had a few bites of my husband loco moco (and this was certainly the end of any residual hunger). As our family was finishing up and getting ready to leave he presented me with another French dip. I reiterated to the the waiter that I did not want it, and he practically begged me to give it another shot. I did. No better. Except perhaps they watered down the ajus in a sad attempt to lessen the salt content. My mother in law ordered the pork plate, it was dry and tasted like feet. A party of five and not one good meal in the bunch. I suggest looking elsewhere.
