I wish there were more than 5 stars available! The best Bed & Breakfast in Kauai - why? Scenic Opeakaa Falls, Wailua River (where the river meets the ocean and where they filmed some of Jurassic Park) and Wailua Falls - a gorgeous double water fall! Kapaa Town - Beaches galore, House of Noodles (check out my review!) close to Lihue Airport and in the winter, look into the ocean and see the dancing whales! Access - Hanelei - in about 40 minutes you can see the beautiful Taro fields and in about an hour you can be at Ke'e Beach - a beautiful serene spot to snorkel and (at times) see sea turtles. Tunnel of Trees - in about 30 minutes you can be driving to Poipu Beach and see the beautiful Tunnel of Trees - and in Poipu - see the Spouting Horn - the lava blowhole that sounds like a train ! Then after all that adventure - relax in the gorgeous surroundings at the Hale Lani. We stayed in Kanoa's Cottage - a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom greeted us along with a gift basket with cookies and coffee. Ruth and Sandy stock it with local island soaps and body lotion as well as a hair dryer, towels, beach toys and fresh gorgeous island flowers. The decor was gorgeous - bright and seascaped - and the murial that we saw each time we got into the car was an underwater paradise The queen size bed was like sleeping on clouds, there were robes for our after our shower or a soak in the hot tub (yah you read right!) There is a convenient washing machine and line as well. Each morning Sandy brought over a healthy and yummy breakfast - probably after he walked Kanoa - their beautiful shepherd or picked the papaya that was in our breakfast igloo. The surrounding "big house" and garden is lush with fruit trees and a gorgeous, manicured lawn. The beauty of the Hale Lani is that it is truly serene. The neighborhood is quiet and strolling through it, you can see the mist in the mountains that surround you. Driving further up the road, you will come to places that take your breath away and provide picture taking moments. If you really want to experience Kauai at it's best - Stay here! Tell them Joanne & Atom sent you!

Not enough stars...... :D. My wife and I stayed in April 2013. We actually had our wedding and honeymoon while staying at Hale Lani. We had told our hosts, as we were telling everyone, and they provided a wonderful champagne breakfast...Totally unexpected. Hosts are very knowledgeable on the best local places to eat. definately the placc to stay if you want to stay clear of the resorts, and have a more natural "at home" visit to Kauai. We will come back as soon as we can.

Beware, you may just find yourself with nowhere to stay on Kauai. Seems like a nice enough place. but an extremely rude experience when we booked for 2 days and had a confirmation email. Then they emailed us 10 days later and told us we weren't really confirmed because someone else had offered to stay for longer. They said that they had a minimum 5 day-stay during Holidays EXCEPT that when we had asked about the Holiday minimum before booking they said 2 nights would be fine. Completely unprofessional.

A few things to know about the Hale Lani * The home is in a suburban neighborhood like any other in the US. It's like you drove down the street to stay at a friend's house. Don't expect a Hawaiian experience. * We never saw a mosquito during our week in Kauai (mid-July), but at the Hale Lani we encountered many. This made it impossible to sit outside and our room was invaded when we opened the door to move our luggage in. The house is in a particularly wet area of the island, thus the abundance of mosquitoes. * Other items: A TV was constantly blaring from the upstairs porch (Fox News!) The owners have a large, unfriendly German Shepard that barks every time you come in. Expect your room to be entered when you are not there.
