Very charming cafe with reasonable prices. Carrot soup with coconut creme foam was shockingly fresh tasting and original. Entrees were strong. Friendly service. Don't miss the lilikoi daquiri if you are in the mood for a cocktail, it's in another league compared to your hotel's mai tai. Dessert trio was nice (tiramisu was my favorite)

Perfect. Went twice during our vacation. Had True at First light the first day and loved the exquisite flavor of a simple combination of local ingredients. Had Old Man of the Sea on our second go and it was just as delightful. A thin slice of salmon smoked to perfection. Not too dry. Not too smokey. Paired with scrambled eggs and a small serving of crab meat. Loved it. Make a point of eating at Hemingway's at least once.

When we discovered this cafe, we went for breakfast almost every day, even though we usually cook in our condo. There are so many good choices! My newest favorite is the quiche, which is unbelievably good! The best I've ever had anywhere. Any flavor, you will like it. The croissants are also excellent, so I have one with my quiche. The cappuccino will make you feel like you are in Italy. The other breakfast combos are interesting and very good. There is something for everyone. All the ingredients are the highest quality, prepared beautifully. The bread they make is fabulous! We usually get a loaf to make toast with, in case we can't get to the cafe. Last time in Kauai, we finally had dinner there, and it was also really good. It was too long ago to remember what we had, but I do know we'll be going back next trip.

We went to Art Cafe Hemingway for breakfast every day of our vacation on the verdant island Kauai that they were open (wednesday through sunday). I couldn't stay away. The attention to detail in their food and the flavors were such that I savored every bite. Truly. Each forkful kept me mindful effortlessly. Although I was tempted to try darn near everything on the menu, I couldn't stop ordering the "In Our Time" (I think that was the name). It was the most delicious omelet... made with little pockets of soft and warm cheese, reminding me of little pillow like you'd eat with ravioli. The omelet was never saddened with any brown splotches (from overcooking, which you often find with omelets). It was moist and yellow - super fresh and delicious. (See pictures). The omelet also came with a side of creamy yogurt jeweled with a few fresh berries. I'm a lover of yogurt and I'd swear this was the best yogurt I've had. There was also toast served and I opted to upgrade to the chef's homemade gluten-free bread. This bread deserves its own whole post - it was the best gluten-free bread. It was thickly sliced, easily held together without crumbling or falling apart, moist, and ridiculously tasty. No beverage required to swallow this gluten-free bread because it wasn't dry and choking. I will cherish the memories of this bread. I also tried a couple of the different coffee options. For heavens sake, this coffee was the best on the island and probably the best coffee I've had in my life (coffee is my favorite beverage next to spring water). I've never been to Europe and this was my opportunity to sample a little of Europe with each wonderful sip. I loved it so much - pardon me as I reminisce while I write this - there coffee was rich, fresh, effective, happy... I could go on and on. I tried the iced coffee a few times because the weather beckoned it (their iced coffee is two shots of espresso served over ice - one time I requested it with fresh whipped cream - so good). I also enjoyed their hot coffee by the cup, served as an americano. I really could do a whole post on the coffee as well. They take pride in their coffee, as well they should. I wanted a cappuccino on my last day but sadly they were out of organic milk. Organic and fresh foods are so important to the chef that she came to my table to apologize (and warn me) that I couldn't have one unless I wanted it with non-organic milk. As a person who places tons of importance on organics I appreciated this and opted to pass on the cappuccino. I will get one the next time I'm on the island. My husband tried the quiche one day - as you might imagine, it was fabulous. Another time he opted for scrambled eggs, wonderful and not overcooked. And another day he had a savory crepe. A true crepe - perfectly balanced. My 5-year old daughter enjoyed bits of our dishes as well as the gluten-free bread. She also experienced her first croissant which was served with a tray of tantalizing spreads (if I remember correctly, honey, marmalade, maybe butter and cream cheese? Sorry I don't recall more specifics, but I remember her opting for the marmalade the most). Oh, our first visit we were delighted as one of the owners(?) brought my daughter a toy box with which to be occupied. How thoughtful (and smart). One day we were asked to move our table and the chef comped us a dessert sampling. Where do I begin? They were all so delightful - creamy tiramisu, passionfruit panne cotta, and chocolate pot du creme. (Please forgive my misspellings if any, I'm eagerly writing this review with speed so I can get all of the details down.) My daughter was in love with the chocolate dessert. I couldn't get enough of any of them, but if I were pressed to choose, I'd opt for the panne cotta for its lightness and uber fresh flavors or the tiramisu for taking me on a journey with a little spice and sweet pick-me-up. The last few things I'll mention: The service was always great. The prices appropriate. And, the daytime decor was airy, light, and refreshing. My only regret is we never experienced their dinner options as I'm positive they'd take my soul (and taste buds) to another place completely. I have promised myself another trip to Kauai where my family will enjoy their evening creations. Tip: usually plenty of parking in the lot across the street.

Best place my whole trip. I would go for breakfast lunch and dinner every day honestly. Lots of choices, went with some fresh organic ham and eggs, gluten free whole grain breads with strawberry marmalade (that was absolutely breathtaking; the bread is very soft and flavorful and the preserves freshly made.) This is one of the finest meals I have ever had, and from a little restaurant in the city of Kapaa on the island of Kauai. A very comfortable place with a nice porch area if you want to eat outside. Art Cafe Hemingway has a great meal and cocktail menu - with many Glutton Free options. Also, their fondue is made with cheese imported from Switzerland. I had the Scallops with Cilantro Pesto on Angel Hair pasta. It included five perfectly cooked scallops individually topped with the Cilantro Pesto, which looked like small heapings of wasabi. It was sublime - the pesto was not over-powering and accented the scallops perfectly. The Angel Hair pasta was tossed with olive oil and with a little pepper to give it a surprising, but very pleasant heat. The rest of our table had the Moroccan Lamb with Basmati Rice (baked with dried mango, ginger, Maui onions and served with sour cream and fresh Cilantro), Gnocchi on Sage Butter with Gorgonzola Dip, and the Lamb Sausage with mashed potatoes and Tomato Compote. The prices are extremely good - especially for the quality of the meal. If you are staying in Kauai and want to take a little break from the local cuisine and looking for a fine dining experience, please check out Art Cafe Hemingway. You will not be disappointed.

This is a **MUST-GO** for the island at Kauai. I dont remember the last time i went to a restaurant twice in one day- but we went there for breakfast and dinner. Both times were wonderful. Very charming decor, as well as GREAT fresh food and service. It feels like a nice french cafe by day and a quaint romantic candelit dinner by night -at times we felt like we might be in paris while at the same time incorporating island flavors and charm. We would DEFINITLY recommend this place to friend and hope to be back in the future! Lastly, prices are more than reasonable and worth the amazing food. I took the recommendation of another yelper to try the "in our time" breakfast. And just as described, the omelet was filled with "pillows pockets" of cheese - never had i had an omelet like this.

My mother ran into the man who runs this place last night and we came here for breakfast and it was one of the loveliest breakfasts I have ever had. My brother and I had crepes and they were great, my mom had the best quiche she's ever eaten, and her girlfriend a croissant sandwich. The atmosphere is so gorgeous and so European and the whole place just makes me smile. Seriously, a gem.

The absolute best food on Kauai! The European style of breakfast is amazing, and the folks working are amazingly nice. The service is European as well...so relax and don't be a typical American, demanding you have someone kissing your ass because you are eating here! Pricing is on par for Island food...but the taste is worth more! I urge you to come here, relax, don't be demanding, and just enjoy an amazingly good dining experience. I'm excited to come back for another breakfast experience, and possibly a sample of the dinner menu too! The owners both work their butts off, so be sure to thank them for your dining experience...and don't be an "ass" if you don't get treated like royalty...you're NOT! Update: (dinner) better than breakfast; freshly made gnocchi, amazing marinated bell pepper and goat cheese starter....yummmm!

Cafe Hemmingway is not to be missed. The staff are friendly and the food and drinks are fantastic. I had a savoury and a sweet crepe, they were both delicious. I also had a homemade hibiscus lemonade which was refreshing and tasty. I highly recommend this cafe.

The food is ok, environment is relaxed. The service was funky. One of the servers was very attentive , the other probably did not really care about getting anything right. Two of our orders were messed up, service was slow and they sort did an up-selling on the last piece of quiche. I found that really odd. If I really wanted their quiche before it was gone I would come here earlier than I did. But hubby wanted the quiche and he did like it. My omelet was stretchy. If there is anything that puts me off food, it is the stretchy, badly cooked omelet. No one came to check if I liked the omelet. I didn't touch it after the first bite. I also ordered the chai. OMG Awful. They didn't charge me for the chai because I said it was not good at all. They do make some good croissants and some other pastries. Parking is a bit tricky. The menu is cleverly worded! Overall an ok place with a few hiccups.

Breakfast visit on our honeymoon trip. This hipster eatery is located just down the street from Kountry Kitchen. Seat yourself casual atmosphere. Overall friendly servers but terribly inattentive, and the portions were way too small for the inflated prices. I left hungry and thirsty, and wishing to give Kountry Kitchen a second chance. The Good: cute decor. Food flavor was spot on, but for these prices we expected larger portions. The Bad: inattentive servers who never even refilled our drinks. The couple next to us waited 20 minutes before a server even greeted them and offered water. Dainty portions for higher end breakfast prices. $5 meusli? Shame on me for ordering it, but it was two spoonfuls in a container slightly larger than a ramekin. Waited too long for the food to arrive. Our order: mine was the organic omelet and my wife had the croissant with ham and Gouda. I also ordered a side of muesli. It all tasted good but small portions did not satisfy our appetite.

My family and I love this place so much that we drive all the way there from 30 minutes away. The atmosphere is so breezy and relaxed that it takes you away from the island heat and you forget where you are. I feel like I am back in time, living in a book that takes place in Europe. When the art gallery is open they have really cool art as well. The food is great on its own and very simple. I'd say it is the best breakfast for everyone. They have something for everybody, unless you hate a european style breakfast, but who would? Scrambled eggs, fresh tomatoes, awesome cheeses, excellent bread. Croissants and crepes are delectable and go great with their very well done coffee drinks. All of the servers are very sweet and respectful, it makes you feel very welcomed. The owners have a really interesting story and the whole idea of the restaurant as a dual art gallery is brilliant. All in all I think we love this place for the experience. It really takes you away... We have yet to try their dinner, but are very much looking forward to it!

Wow, this place was perfect for brunch. Although there is sometimes a wait, it is BEYOND worth it. The crepes are delicious and perfect. The croissants are exactly what you'd expect to find in France. My parents enjoyed their quiches and my boyfriend loves the Nutella crepe. I ordered the mozzarella and olive oil crepe and came back the next day to order it again. Can't wait to be back in Kauai.

This amazing place is my favorite brunch spot on Kauai. My first time here was on a Friday evening around 7pm. I was seated promptly. My dinner that night was my first and ever cheese fondue experience. My SO and I shared a variety plate of fruits, bratwurst, raw mushrooms, and potatoes. It left a lasting impression so much so that I continued to return every morning for brunch. The following morning I returned the next morning around 10am. There were only outdoor seatings in their garden available. Totally fine with me! I ordered "The Old Man and The Sea". It was a spread of the most delicious smoked salmon, crab meat tossed in a wasabi sauce, cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs and baguettes. So simple yet so flavorful. Their hibiscus mango lemonade was very refreshing and nice touch with the dehydrated mango in the cup. The only negative thing about this place is they don't serve their amazing smoked duck salad until after the holidays and that they run out of quiche after 10am. I can't wait until I return to Kauai just so I can brunch here every.day .

Although the crepes and coffee were excellent, go right for the quiche (portobello + Gorgonzola) and oatmeal with milk and Greek yogurt (museli). They are both off the book amazing... We just happened to stumble upon this little restaurant. Lucky for us! We had the most delicious brunch here. We ordered the True at First Light, the ham & cheese croissant sandwich, cappuccino & OJ. Everything was amazing & you could tell the ingredients they use are very fresh (e.g. OJ was freshly squeezed). If you're looking for a typical breakfast/brunch place (heavy, buttery, sweet, salty food), this is not it. If you're looking for an experience & the opportunity to try something new, this is your kind of place! It was our 1st time trying muesli. The waitress kindly explained to us what this deliciousness consisted of. This is a cute little place. The workers here all try their hardest to make sure their customers are happy. At the table next to us, a customer was not fond of the cup her latte was served in, the cup was quickly replaced. We had a wonderful experience & just wish we were staying longer to be repeat customers. We'll definitely be back soon!

We had the best experience with friendly, accommodating staff and delicious food! The ambiance is very European with lovely French music, and at dinner, it is more romantic. We had our 8 month old baby girl with us and even though we didn't think it felt like a family place, they were so gracious and even had a high chair. Our girl slept most of the time so she was quiet and calm, but I don't think they minded either way. We had salads and their classic fondue,which was so good and just the right amount of savory. So refreshing compared to all the resort restaurants, pubs and walk ups. My husband had a well crafted martini and I had a French petit bourgeois. I so recommend this place and wish we had time to go back!

Amazing dining experience. This spot was highly recommended and worth every penny. This is family owned and operated and it's clear they take great pride in making it a full dining experience. Make a reservation, we got there at 6:30 without and luckily squeezed in by 7:30, they limit the tables because they make each dish by hand. Marcus (one of the owners) made amazing cocktails with careful care to ensure they aren't your typical touristy sugar drinks (they can sweeten them more but it's refreshing to have a Daiquiri that doesn't leave your mouth sticky!) The food was exquisite. I had the Moroccan Lamb and it was the first time in awhile I had to pause on the first bite, shocked by the flavor to enjoy! The atmosphere is so welcoming and they don't rush the meal at all. I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to savor the experience, our meal was a full two hours (similar to traveling abroad) It's wonderful to relax and enjoy. By far the highlight for our first trip to Kuai!

If you not looking for a greasy spoon, and want more of a food experience, I highly recommend The Art Cafe Hemingway. The atmosphere is lovely, but be prepared to possibly share your table with strangers as it can be "family style". I recommend ordering the Honolulu Sekt Breakfast with a side of spinach, tomatoes and the Mediterranean relish! The service is on Island Time, but lovely servers, yummy food and an exceptional atmosphere make it well worth it! And guess what... We loved it so much we went back for dinner! You can't beat a yummy fondue on a stormy Kauai night! Atmosphere was amazing and I am basically in love with this place! A side note, those with food allergies will find it easy to navigate the menu.

My sister and I decided to order a croissant to finish off our breakfasts and it was the best croissant I've ever had. While on vacation, we went here twice because we couldn't get enough. Yum!!!

Cafe Hemingway has great food, and charges as they should, island prices (high.) The environment is very relaxed and loitering is encouraged. It seems like a hang out for writers and artists, and there is often an art exhibition going on at the top. Despite it's good food and relaxed atmosphere, I don't love Cafe Hemingway. I like it a lot. The service is consistently slow, though nice. There's also some rule about getting your check, and this seems to add 10-15 minutes of wait time when you're already set to leave. And I don't feel inspired to write anything when I am there, which I am usually pretty diligent about when I go out with the intention of doing that. Overall, it has some food that's so tasty, I will return for sure. Most everything they have is made in house, and I hear the recipes are a close guarded secret! +There are LOTS of vegan, gluten-free, and special needs options. Which is unexpected and awesome. +The owners are really nice people and the staff seems like they are treated well. I love things like this in a restaurant.

5 stars because I adore this place and there's nothing like it on Kauai! The food and coffee are excellent and the owners are beyond accommodating and friendly, however, they are closed on my days off :( and they really need some more help because the last time I was there it was so busy and the service was really slow. The food was excellent... really good and enjoyed it very much... very cute cafe and a really nice place to relax and have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our only observation was that we felt the portion sizes were pricey for the size... as an example I had the eggs on spinach for breakfast and probably had about 3 spinach leaves with 4 tiny slices of baguette... I really would have expected more and actually left hungry... Don't let the price sway you if you like good quality, organically grown produce... everything we had here was very tasty and despite this observation, we really did like it! :-)

Best food we have had for our entire trip! We had fast and pleasant service. You have to order the Italian iced coffee. It comes poured over vanilla bean gelato and topped with fresh made whipped cream. They had wonderful gluten free homemade bread. The food was fresh organic and homemade. So yummy! Yummy! First impressions, I love the ambience and the presentation of water and use of weck jars for water cups. I take this as a good sign of attention to detail. I ordered a white mocha. It was delicious and not overly sweet. It could have been a tad hotter, but it was perfect temperature to start drinking right away. I ordered the organic omelette with mozzarella, basil, and tomato. It came with a side of muesli parfait. The omelette was delicious and the ingredients perfectly proportioned, all of the flavors having an equal play. The parfait was excellent!!! And a perfect compliment to the eggs. The plate was perfectly satisfying but not overly stuffing the way some breakfast plates can be. This place is not for you if you are looking for a huge plate of, stick to your gut, breakfast fare. But great if you like fresh real foods . I ordered the Nutella and strawberry crepes for both of my kids. They were as good as I expected. My daughter's had a lot of Nutella. She didn't mind, of course, but it could have used half the amount. My son's was perfect. My husband had the 'Old Man by the Sea' and he was happy with it. I would say it met expectations. He also ordered the mushroom and Gorgonzola quiche. We had to wait about 30 mins for this as we got there right after they opened and quiche was still in the oven. He is a picky quiche person, but he was really impressed with the flavor. We were pretty much done, but everything was so good that I put in a last minute order for the croissant with Camembert and pineapple mustard. Again, so yummy. I only wish they had put more of the pineapple mustard, it is so good. If I hadn't already eaten a full meal I would've paid the $1 for an extra side of the stuff. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. Being from Southern California, just outside of LA, my food standard is quite high. We were disappointed with many of the other dining suggestions during our stay, but this place really hit the spot. I think the price is totally reasonable considering the quality of the food. Wish we had gone here earlier on in our trip. I'll probably be dreaming about the parfait!

If you're a light eater or a European eater then you'll surely appreciate this little gem. We were lead here by Yelp and were not disappointed. They are closed on a certain weekday so that did throw our plans off a bit. We had the croissant with jam and butter, a quiche, and a Sun Also Rises. All were perfect for our breakfast needs. The croissant was light and flaky, nice and moist. The quiche was too filling! The Sun Also Rises was a complimentary treat, with the eggs, cheese, and bread...all very nicely done. A perfect combination of ingredients for a delightful breakfast. Pieces of art hung from the walls with descriptions in German. We thought that the second floor would be packed but had we known it was empty then we would've sat upstairs--breezier and lighter in color. Service was average at best--although the restaurant wasn't full or anything close to, our waiter seemed to have his mind preoccupied and we were constantly waiting on him. Even getting the check prepared was a real pain--like an additional 15 minute wait. Other than the service, this restaurant is recommended because the food is just very well appointed and highly recommended for any light eater. $35

I live on Kauai and have given this place several chances. First time in, I am not noticed or given a menu for 15 minutes. It was not busy. I leave. I come many months later with a group of 15 women. We are seated and waited on minimally. Food was excellent, but my latte was cold. I ask for another (I don't like doing this but my friends insist). When we all pay it takes a half hour to ring us all up. I am charged for BOTH lattes. I ask to have it fixed, I wait another 15 minutes. Final time was today. A lady asks me to be seated. I am not given a menu or water for 10 minutes. I wait for my order to be taken 10 minutes after my menu is placed closed. I am sitting patiently, not on my phone. I lock eyes with the waitress and she proceeds to take the order of a group of four, seated more recently than myself. I politely told the manager that they have terrible service, and left. I'm now being served quickly and efficiently at Java Kai.

Self seat. Upstairs is nice with a balcony & view. They accommodate gluten-free & vegans. Food was good, although we waited over 40 minutes for it. Had Old Man of the Sea on our second go and it was just as delightful. A thin slice of salmon smoked to perfection. Not too dry. Not too smokey. Paired with scrambled eggs and a small serving of crab meat. Loved it. Make a point of eating at Hemingway's at least once.

When we discovered this cafe, we went for breakfast almost every day, even though we usually cook in our condo. There are so many good choices! My newest favorite is the quiche, which is unbelievably good! The best I've ever had anywhere. Any flavor, you will like it. The croissants are also excellent, so I have one with my quiche. The cappuccino will make you feel like you are in Italy. The other breakfast combos are interesting and very good. There is something for everyone. All the ingredients are the highest quality, prepared beautifully. The bread they make is fabulous! We usually get a loaf to make toast with, in case we can't get to the cafe. Last time in Kauai, we finally had dinner there, and it was also really good. It was too long ago to remember what we had, but I do know we'll be going back next trip.

We went to Art Cafe Hemingway for breakfast every day of our vacation on the verdant island Kauai that they were open (wednesday through sunday). I couldn't stay away. The attention to detail in their food and the flavors were such that I savored every bite. Truly. Each forkful kept me mindful effortlessly. Although I was tempted to try darn near everything on the menu, I couldn't stop ordering the "In Our Time" (I think that was the name). It was the most delicious omelet... made with little pockets of soft and warm cheese, reminding me of little pillow like you'd eat with ravioli. The omelet was never saddened with any brown splotches (from overcooking, which you often find with omelets). It was moist and yellow - super fresh and delicious. (See pictures). The omelet also came with a side of creamy yogurt jeweled with a few fresh berries. I'm a lover of yogurt and I'd swear this was the best yogurt I've had. There was also toast served and I opted to upgrade to the chef's homemade gluten-free bread. This bread deserves its own whole post - it was the best gluten-free bread. It was thickly sliced, easily held together without crumbling or falling apart, moist, and ridiculously tasty. No beverage required to swallow this gluten-free bread because it wasn't dry and choking. I will cherish the memories of this bread. I also tried a couple of the different coffee options. For heavens sake, this coffee was the best on the island and probably the best coffee I've had in my life (coffee is my favorite beverage next to spring water). I've never been to Europe and this was my opportunity to sample a little of Europe with each wonderful sip. I loved it so much - pardon me as I reminisce while I write this - there coffee was rich, fresh, effective, happy... I could go on and on. I tried the iced coffee a few times because the weather beckoned it (their iced coffee is two shots of espresso served over ice - one time I requested it with fresh whipped cream - so good). I also enjoyed their hot coffee by the cup, served as an americano. I really could do a whole post on the coffee as well. They take pride in their coffee, as well they should. I wanted a cappuccino on my last day but sadly they were out of organic milk. Organic and fresh foods are so important to the chef that she came to my table to apologize (and warn me) that I couldn't have one unless I wanted it with non-organic milk. As a person who places tons of importance on organics I appreciated this and opted to pass on the cappuccino. I will get one the next time I'm on the island. My husband tried the quiche one day - as you might imagine, it was fabulous. Another time he opted for scrambled eggs, wonderful and not overcooked. And another day he had a savory crepe. A true crepe - perfectly balanced. My 5-year old daughter enjoyed bits of our dishes as well as the gluten-free bread. She also experienced her first croissant which was served with a tray of tantalizing spreads (if I remember correctly, honey, marmalade, maybe butter and cream cheese? Sorry I don't recall more specifics, but I remember her opting for the marmalade the most). Oh, our first visit we were delighted as one of the owners(?) brought my daughter a toy box with which to be occupied. How thoughtful (and smart). One day we were asked to move our table and the chef comped us a dessert sampling. Where do I begin? They were all so delightful - creamy tiramisu, passionfruit panne cotta, and chocolate pot du creme. (Please forgive my misspellings if any, I'm eagerly writing this review with speed so I can get all of the details down.) My daughter was in love with the chocolate dessert. I couldn't get enough of any of them, but if I were pressed to choose, I'd opt for the panne cotta for its lightness and uber fresh flavors or the tiramisu for taking me on a journey with a little spice and sweet pick-me-up. The last few things I'll mention: The service was always great. The prices appropriate. And, the daytime decor was airy, light, and refreshing. My only regret is we never experienced their dinner options as I'm positive they'd take my soul (and taste buds) to another place completely. I have promised myself another trip to Kauai where my family will enjoy their evening creations. Tip: usually plenty of parking in the lot across the street.

Best place my whole trip. I would go for breakfast lunch and dinner every day honestly. Lots of choices, went with some fresh organic ham and eggs, gluten free whole grain breads with strawberry marmalade (that was absolutely breathtaking; the bread is very soft and flavorful and the preserves freshly made.) This is one of the finest meals I have ever had, and from a little restaurant in the city of Kapaa on the island of Kauai. A very comfortable place with a nice porch area if you want to eat outside. Art Cafe Hemingway has a great meal and cocktail menu - with many Glutton Free options. Also, their fondue is made with cheese imported from Switzerland. I had the Scallops with Cilantro Pesto on Angel Hair pasta. It included five perfectly cooked scallops individually topped with the Cilantro Pesto, which looked like small heapings of wasabi. It was sublime - the pesto was not over-powering and accented the scallops perfectly. The Angel Hair pasta was tossed with olive oil and with a little pepper to give it a surprising, but very pleasant heat. The rest of our table had the Moroccan Lamb with Basmati Rice (baked with dried mango, ginger, Maui onions and served with sour cream and fresh Cilantro), Gnocchi on Sage Butter with Gorgonzola Dip, and the Lamb Sausage with mashed potatoes and Tomato Compote. The prices are extremely good - especially for the quality of the meal. If you are staying in Kauai and want to take a little break from the local cuisine and looking for a fine dining experience, please check out Art Cafe Hemingway. You will not be disappointed.

This is a **MUST-GO** for the island at Kauai. I dont remember the last time i went to a restaurant twice in one day- but we went there for breakfast and dinner. Both times were wonderful. Very charming decor, as well as GREAT fresh food and service. It feels like a nice french cafe by day and a quaint romantic candelit dinner by night -at times we felt like we might be in paris while at the same time incorporating island flavors and charm. We would DEFINITLY recommend this place to friend and hope to be back in the future! Lastly, prices are more than reasonable and worth the amazing food. I took the recommendation of another yelper to try the "in our time" breakfast. And just as described, the omelet was filled with "pillows pockets" of cheese - never had i had an omelet like this.

My mother ran into the man who runs this place last night and we came here for breakfast and it was one of the loveliest breakfasts I have ever had. My brother and I had crepes and they were great, my mom had the best quiche she's ever eaten, and her girlfriend a croissant sandwich. The atmosphere is so gorgeous and so European and the whole place just makes me smile. Seriously, a gem.

The absolute best food on Kauai! The European style of breakfast is amazing, and the folks working are amazingly nice. The service is European as well...so relax and don't be a typical American, demanding you have someone kissing your ass because you are eating here! Pricing is on par for Island food...but the taste is worth more! I urge you to come here, relax, don't be demanding, and just enjoy an amazingly good dining experience. I'm excited to come back for another breakfast experience, and possibly a sample of the dinner menu too! The owners both work their butts off, so be sure to thank them for your dining experience...and don't be an "ass" if you don't get treated like royalty...you're NOT! Cafe Hemmingway is not to be missed. The staff are friendly and the food and drinks are fantastic. I had a savoury and a sweet crepe, they were both delicious. I also had a homemade hibiscus lemonade which was refreshing and tasty. I highly recommend this cafe.

The food is ok, environment is relaxed. The service was funky. One of the servers was very attentive , the other probably did not really care about getting anything right. Two of our orders were messed up, service was slow and they sort did an up-selling on the last piece of quiche. I found that really odd. If I really wanted their quiche before it was gone I would come here earlier than I did. But hubby wanted the quiche and he did like it. My omelet was stretchy. If there is anything that puts me off food, it is the stretchy, badly cooked omelet. No one came to check if I liked the omelet. I didn't touch it after the first bite. I also ordered the chai. OMG Awful. They didn't charge me for the chai because I said it was not good at all. They do make some good croissants and some other pastries. Parking is a bit tricky. The menu is cleverly worded! Overall an ok place with a few hiccups.

Breakfast visit on our honeymoon trip. This hipster eatery is located just down the street from Kountry Kitchen. Seat yourself casual atmosphere. Overall friendly servers but terribly inattentive, and the portions were way too small for the inflated prices. I left hungry and thirsty, and wishing to give Kountry Kitchen a second chance. The Good: cute decor. Food flavor was spot on, but for these prices we expected larger portions. The Bad: inattentive servers who never even refilled our drinks. The couple next to us waited 20 minutes before a server even greeted them and offered water. Dainty portions for higher end breakfast prices. $5 meusli? Shame on me for ordering it, but it was two spoonfuls in a container slightly larger than a ramekin. Waited too long for the food to arrive. Our order: mine was the organic omelet and my wife had the croissant with ham and Gouda. I also ordered a side of muesli. It all tasted good but small portions did not satisfy our appetite.

My family and I love this place so much that we drive all the way there from 30 minutes away. The atmosphere is so breezy and relaxed that it takes you away from the island heat and you forget where you are. I feel like I am back in time, living in a book that takes place in Europe. When the art gallery is open they have really cool art as well. The food is great on its own and very simple. I'd say it is the best breakfast for everyone. They have something for everybody, unless you hate a european style breakfast, but who would? Scrambled eggs, fresh tomatoes, awesome cheeses, excellent bread. Croissants and crepes are delectable and go great with their very well done coffee drinks. All of the servers are very sweet and respectful, it makes you feel very welcomed. The owners have a really interesting story and the whole idea of the restaurant as a dual art gallery is brilliant. All in all I think we love this place for the experience. It really takes you away... We have yet to try their dinner, but are very much looking forward to it!

Wow, this place was perfect for brunch. Although there is sometimes a wait, it is BEYOND worth it. The crepes are delicious and perfect. The croissants are exactly what you'd expect to find in France. My parents enjoyed their quiches and my boyfriend loves the Nutella crepe. I ordered the mozzarella and olive oil crepe and came back the next day to order it again. Can't wait to be back in Kauai.

This amazing place is my favorite brunch spot on Kauai. My first time here was on a Friday evening around 7pm. I was seated promptly. My dinner that night was my first and ever cheese fondue experience. My SO and I shared a variety plate of fruits, bratwurst, raw mushrooms, and potatoes. It left a lasting impression so much so that I continued to return every morning for brunch. The following morning I returned the next morning around 10am. There were only outdoor seatings in their garden available. Totally fine with me! I ordered "The Old Man and The Sea". It was a spread of the most delicious smoked salmon, crab meat tossed in a wasabi sauce, cheese, fluffy scrambled eggs and baguettes. So simple yet so flavorful. Their hibiscus mango lemonade was very refreshing and nice touch with the dehydrated mango in the cup. The only negative thing about this place is they don't serve their amazing smoked duck salad until after the holidays and that they run out of quiche after 10am. I can't wait until I return to Kauai just so I can brunch here every.day .

Although the crepes and coffee were excellent, go right for the quiche (portobello + Gorgonzola) and oatmeal with milk and Greek yogurt (museli). They are both off the book amazing... We just happened to stumble upon this little restaurant. Lucky for us! We had the most delicious brunch here. We ordered the True at First Light, the ham & cheese croissant sandwich, cappuccino & OJ. Everything was amazing & you could tell the ingredients they use are very fresh (e.g. OJ was freshly squeezed). If you're looking for a typical breakfast/brunch place (heavy, buttery, sweet, salty food), this is not it. If you're looking for an experience & the opportunity to try something new, this is your kind of place! It was our 1st time trying muesli. The waitress kindly explained to us what this deliciousness consisted of. This is a cute little place. The workers here all try their hardest to make sure their customers are happy. At the table next to us, a customer was not fond of the cup her latte was served in, the cup was quickly replaced. We had a wonderful experience & just wish we were staying longer to be repeat customers. We'll definitely be back soon!

We had the best experience with friendly, accommodating staff and delicious food! The ambiance is very European with lovely French music, and at dinner, it is more romantic. We had our 8 month old baby girl with us and even though we didn't think it felt like a family place, they were so gracious and even had a high chair. Our girl slept most of the time so she was quiet and calm, but I don't think they minded either way. We had salads and their classic fondue,which was so good and just the right amount of savory. So refreshing compared to all the resort restaurants, pubs and walk ups. My husband had a well crafted martini and I had a French petit bourgeois. I so recommend this place and wish we had time to go back!

Amazing dining experience. This spot was highly recommended and worth every penny. This is family owned and operated and it's clear they take great pride in making it a full dining experience. Make a reservation, we got there at 6:30 without and luckily squeezed in by 7:30, they limit the tables because they make each dish by hand. Marcus (one of the owners) made amazing cocktails with careful care to ensure they aren't your typical touristy sugar drinks (they can sweeten them more but it's refreshing to have a Daiquiri that doesn't leave your mouth sticky!) The food was exquisite. I had the Moroccan Lamb and it was the first time in awhile I had to pause on the first bite, shocked by the flavor to enjoy! The atmosphere is so welcoming and they don't rush the meal at all. I recommend giving yourself plenty of time to savor the experience, our meal was a full two hours (similar to traveling abroad) It's wonderful to relax and enjoy. By far the highlight for our first trip to Kuai!

If you not looking for a greasy spoon, and want more of a food experience, I highly recommend The Art Cafe Hemingway. The atmosphere is lovely, but be prepared to possibly share your table with strangers as it can be "family style". I recommend ordering the Honolulu Sekt Breakfast with a side of spinach, tomatoes and the Mediterranean relish! The service is on Island Time, but lovely servers, yummy food and an exceptional atmosphere make it well worth it! And guess what... We loved it so much we went back for dinner! You can't beat a yummy fondue on a stormy Kauai night! Atmosphere was amazing and I am basically in love with this place! A side note, those with food allergies will find it easy to navigate the menu.

My sister and I decided to order a croissant to finish off our breakfasts and it was the best croissant I've ever had. While on vacation, we went here twice because we couldn't get enough. Yum!!!

Cafe Hemingway has great food, and charges as they should, island prices (high.) The environment is very relaxed and loitering is encouraged. It seems like a hang out for writers and artists, and there is often an art exhibition going on at the top. Despite it's good food and relaxed atmosphere, I don't love Cafe Hemingway. I like it a lot. The service is consistently slow, though nice. There's also some rule about getting your check, and this seems to add 10-15 minutes of wait time when you're already set to leave. And I don't feel inspired to write anything when I am there, which I am usually pretty diligent about when I go out with the intention of doing that. Overall, it has some food that's so tasty, I will return for sure. Most everything they have is made in house, and I hear the recipes are a close guarded secret! +There are LOTS of vegan, gluten-free, and special needs options. Which is unexpected and awesome. +The owners are really nice people and the staff seems like they are treated well. I love things like this in a restaurant.

The food and coffee are excellent and the owners are beyond accommodating and friendly, however, they are closed on my days off :( and they really need some more help because the last time I was there it was so busy and the service was really slow. The food was excellent... really good and enjoyed it very much... very cute cafe and a really nice place to relax and have breakfast, lunch or dinner. Our only observation was that we felt the portion sizes were pricey for the size... as an example I had the eggs on spinach for breakfast and probably had about 3 spinach leaves with 4 tiny slices of baguette... I really would have expected more and actually left hungry... Don't let the price sway you if you like good quality, organically grown produce... everything we had here was very tasty and despite this observation, we really did like it! :-)

It comes poured over vanilla bean gelato and topped with fresh made whipped cream. They had wonderful gluten free homemade bread. The food was fresh organic and homemade. So yummy! Yummy! First impressions, I love the ambience and the presentation of water and use of weck jars for water cups. I take this as a good sign of attention to detail. I ordered a white mocha. It was delicious and not overly sweet. It could have been a tad hotter, but it was perfect temperature to start drinking right away. I ordered the organic omelette with mozzarella, basil, and tomato. It came with a side of muesli parfait. The omelette was delicious and the ingredients perfectly proportioned, all of the flavors having an equal play. The parfait was excellent!!! And a perfect compliment to the eggs. The plate was perfectly satisfying but not overly stuffing the way some breakfast plates can be. This place is not for you if you are looking for a huge plate of, stick to your gut, breakfast fare. But great if you like fresh real foods . I ordered the Nutella and strawberry crepes for both of my kids. They were as good as I expected. My daughter's had a lot of Nutella. She didn't mind, of course, but it could have used half the amount. My son's was perfect. My husband had the 'Old Man by the Sea' and he was happy with it. I would say it met expectations. He also ordered the mushroom and Gorgonzola quiche. We had to wait about 30 mins for this as we got there right after they opened and quiche was still in the oven. He is a picky quiche person, but he was really impressed with the flavor. We were pretty much done, but everything was so good that I put in a last minute order for the croissant with Camembert and pineapple mustard. Again, so yummy. I only wish they had put more of the pineapple mustard, it is so good. If I hadn't already eaten a full meal I would've paid the $1 for an extra side of the stuff. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. Being from Southern California, just outside of LA, my food standard is quite high. We were disappointed with many of the other dining suggestions during our stay, but this place really hit the spot. I think the price is totally reasonable considering the quality of the food. Wish we had gone here earlier on in our trip. I'll probably be dreaming about the parfait!

If you're a light eater or a European eater then you'll surely appreciate this little gem. We were lead here by Yelp and were not disappointed. They are closed on a certain weekday so that did throw our plans off a bit. We had the croissant with jam and butter, a quiche, and a Sun Also Rises. All were perfect for our breakfast needs. The croissant was light and flaky, nice and moist. The quiche was too filling! The Sun Also Rises was a complimentary treat, with the eggs, cheese, and bread...all very nicely done. A perfect combination of ingredients for a delightful breakfast. Pieces of art hung from the walls with descriptions in German. We thought that the second floor would be packed but had we known it was empty then we would've sat upstairs--breezier and lighter in color. Service was average at best--although the restaurant wasn't full or anything close to, our waiter seemed to have his mind preoccupied and we were constantly waiting on him. Even getting the check prepared was a real pain--like an additional 15 minute wait. Other than the service, this restaurant is recommended because the food is just very well appointed and highly recommended for any light eater. $35

I live on Kauai and have given this place several chances. First time in, I am not noticed or given a menu for 15 minutes. It was not busy. I leave. I come many months later with a group of 15 women. We are seated and waited on minimally. Food was excellent, but my latte was cold. I ask for another (I don't like doing this but my friends insist). When we all pay it takes a half hour to ring us all up. I am charged for BOTH lattes. I ask to have it fixed, I wait another 15 minutes. Final time was today. A lady asks me to be seated. I am not given a menu or water for 10 minutes. I wait for my order to be taken 10 minutes after my menu is placed closed. I am sitting patiently, not on my phone. I lock eyes with the waitress and she proceeds to take the order of a group of four, seated more recently than myself. I politely told the manager that they have terrible service, and left. I'm now being served quickly and efficiently at Java Kai.

Self seat. Upstairs is nice with a balcony & view. They accommodate gluten-free & vegans. Food was good, although we waited over 40 minutes for it. Our waitress was very friendly, however, because the restaurant gets very busy, service was a bit slow. I would love to return... maybe when they first open in the morning.
