***NOTE*** This is the ice cream factory in Kamuela. For the Tropical Dreams location in Hawi that is listed in guidebooks, search for "KOHALA COFFEE MILL" on Yelp. That location is conjoined with the cafe and is not listed as Tropical Dreams. Tropical Dreams' ice cream factory has a little shop that only sells packaged ice cream. No scoops, sandwiches or coffee-- that would be at the Kohala Coffee Mill in Hawi. Sizes range from about a cream cheese container (~8oz; $3.50), to 3 gallons!! The smallest size is about 2 big scoops worth. Plenty of flavors to choose from, at least in the pint sizes, but they usually don't have every flavor on the board in every size. The ice cream is most likely the best ice cream on the island. It's not something I crave when I'm on the mainland, but I can't take a trip to the Big Island without stopping here. They have a bench outside of the shop where you can enjoy your ice cream, but most people purchase here to take home. There is a big parking lot.

Warning, they do not sell by the scoop here. With how amazing this Ice Cream is, how am I the first to review this place. Everyone on the Island of Hawaii knows this brand and how truly outstanding this stuff is. Coffee shops on the island are known extremely popular because they serve this stuff. So skip the store or the hunt to find the one you like and go right to the source. We came to only get one for the few days we had remaining and ended up buying three tubs. It is so good I have requested yelp add a 6th star for truly exceptional places.

Two stars for the venue only. The ice cream is good. Stopped by in May 2015 to try their ice cream. Although you can purchase here, it's not visitor friendly. One small room with a refrigerator and a wooden bench outside. Not very inviting or comfortable. I do recommend buying their ice cream out in town at storefronts that have chairs, tables, etc., just not here at their production facility.

We enjoy trying local products as much as possible when we travel, so we picked up a few containers of Tropical Dreams ice cream in the Waikaloa Queens Market grocery store. It did not disappoint! It certainly beats any of the big brand stuff on the shelves, so go local!

This is all we heard about even before we landed. I think the guidebook itself had it listed a handful of times. Of course we were going to hit this place. My impression: it might be good for Hawaiian standards (whatever those are) but in the grand scheme of things, this ice cream was nothing special. I appreciate that it's made from the milk from the cows that basically live in their backyard (up the road actually) but in terms of consistency and taste, it was just average. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to go here... it's fine to try if you're already here.

Another spot recommended in one of our guidebooks. It was a good break between the sight-seeing. There were LOTS of different flavors to choose from and reasonably priced. Would definitely stop by here again for a scoop or two.

Holy cow! Best ice cream I've tasted in a long time. Made fresh daily. Creamy, milky goodness! Don't miss out. We went to the location in Hawi at kohala coffee shop. We got the macadamia nut and blueberry cheesecake flavors. Absolutely amazing!

Delicious, high quality ice creams and sorbets! Tried the salted caramel and cookies & cream along with champagne sorbet--outstanding! Flavors vary but they have a wide variety in the half gallon size and fewer in the smaller sizes.
