Nestled in the heart of Kailua is Boots & Kimo's, your typical mom-and-pop breakfast shop that has since boomed into a tourist destination. Yet, this place still gets plenty of local business and if you go for breakfast/brunch on a Saturday, you can expect up to an hour wait for this place. My advice -- go early. Or, better yet, go during the week! I've only dined in at Boots & Kimo's once and have gotten take-out the two other times I went, but I found my ultimate favorite on their menu on my first visit -- the "Onolicious Fried Rice Omelette" (more on that below). Boots & Kimo's not only serves up delicious food, but they do serve up Aloha with every bite. Their staff is always welcoming and friendly, and it's great that it's a family-owned business. Here are some of the must-haves I would recommend, whether it's your first (or 50th) trip to Boots & Kimo's: "Onolicious Fried Rice Omelette": Now, the fried rice at Boots & Kimo's itself is bomb. But when you add a layer of melted American cheese and wrap that fried rice up into an omelette and serve it with crispy hash browns, you're in savory food heaven. The fried rice is moist and flavorful, and when you pair it with that oozing, melted cheese and fluffy egg outer layer ... oh man! All omelettes are made with 3 1/2 fresh eggs and are served with the customer's choice of toast, hash browns or fluffy steamed rice. I always go for the golden-fried, crispy hash browns. This "Fried Rice Omelette" is my favorite dish at the eatery, even though I usually go for pancakes or something sweet when it comes to breakfast food. "Kimo's Famous Macadamia Nut Sauce on His Onolicious Pancakes": These pancakes steal the show at Boots & Kimo's and they're probably the most raved-about dish (though I would make a case for that "Fried Rice Omelette"). The pancakes are good -- they're thin and light, yet fluffy, and they come absolutely drenched with the liquidy Macadamia Nut Sauce. I don't usually like too much butter/syrup on my pancakes so I ordered the sauce on the side, but I understand why so many customers rave about these pancakes. The sauce is light and has small chunks of Macadamia nuts, adding a welcoming texture to the pancakes. The pancake-and-sauce combo is sweet but not overly so, so you won't feel completely weighted down after enjoying this short stack. "Maui Original Portuguese Sausage Omelette": Though I have not yet tried this omelette, I'm always tempted to try it when I see it on the menu. It consists of savory Portuguese sausage and melted Haleakala Swiss cheese. One of these days, I'll have to deviate from my usual order and try it ... "Spam and Cheese Omelette": I got this dish once when I was seriously craving Spam and the savory meal didn't disappoint. However, I felt that it was almost a bit too salty for me. The omelette was pretty simple in of itself, consisting of generous portions of chopped-up Spam and melted Haleakala Swiss cheese. I definitely got my Spam fix after devouring the whole omelette, but I was pretty thirsty for the next few hours! "Chicken Katsu" or "Garlic Chicken Plate": If you're not the hugest breakfast fan and want something a little more "lunchy," I would recommend the "Chicken Katsu." Featuring a crispy, nicely breaded exterior and a tender, flavorful interior, this katsu is accompanied by Boot's "homemade katsu sauce," steamed rice and macaroni salad. The "Garlic Chicken Plate" is another good option, as it features pieces of chicken coated generously with Kimo's homemade garlic sauce There are plenty of other award-winning dishes on the Boots & Kimo's menu, such as the famous "Hawaiian Style Pulehu Ribs," served up with grilled kula onions, mushrooms, two eggs and the diner's choice of toast, hash browns or rice, and the "Eggs Benedict," which is sure to please any benny lover. I usually stick to my favorite entrée (the "Fried Rice Omelette") when I do visit this cozy eatery, but if you go with a group, I suggest ordering a bunch of different entrees and sharing everything so you have a sampler of everything delicious Boots & Kimo's has to offer.

First of all, Banana Macadamia Nut Pancakes. You will fall in love. Trust me! The first time I tried this place about 3 years ago, I loved the macadamia nut pancakes, but I didn't have a great experience service-wise. We waited over an hour to be seated & then I'm sure our server forgot to put our order in because we waited about 45 mins for our food! All we ordered that day was a side of eggs, spam and pancakes. I was pissed. 2 stars for the bad service, but the pancakes were pretty good. This time around, we were quoted 30 mins, but got seated in 15 mins. Service was great, food arrived in a timely matter, refills taken care of...solid service. This time I tried the banana macadamia nut pancakes & it was the best decision of my life! I will stand by boots & kimos so as long as their service stays consistently good. Them banana macadamia nut pancakes though!

This place was recommended by my friend, a local. We were so jet lagged (coming from 6 hours ahead) and therefore woke up at 5 am and decided to give this place a try. We got there a bit before opening at 7:30am and there was already a lot of people waiting. When the doors opened, all the tables were taken instantly. Now I can see why it is an hour wait, so get there early! -Macadamia Nut Pancakes is definitely a must! =) I do not need to say more. Just try it. -Portuguese sausage was so good. It mixed well with the eggs and rice. Worth a try. -Corned beef hash was good as well. It was a different style and I sure ate all of it. Actually all the food was gone and it was finished by only myself and my boyfriend. -Guava juice was yummy.Any chance I had, I would order guava or pog juice. -Kona coffee - free refills =) Service was fast. Since we got there early and seated as soon as we went through the doors, our orders were taken fairly quickly. Food was fresh and overall delicious. Refills on coffee and water was quick. My tips are to bring cash & be patient.

You have to try Boot's and Kimo's famous banana nut pancakes with macadamia nut sauce at least once if you're on Oahu. The wait can be tough especially if it's super hot outside, so I'd recommend to come early. I went on a recommendation from an old coworker of mine and brought my boyfriend's family in to try. They all loved it, which was surprising, considering all Filipino moms, dads, aunts, and uncles are all about food that's "not too sweet." The pancakes were nice and fluffy and the mac nut sauce was light with just the right amount of sweetness. You can even buy the sauce by the jar! Boot's and Kimo's is CASH ONLYYYY. They have an ATM inside too, if you do forget those bills, bills, bills.

I came here on a weekday and waited for about 45min+ for a table. It was crowded with tourist which i thought was unusual in the midst of residential area. I think the tour bus literally drop the tourist off the area. Anyways, it was your typical Hawaiian breakfast joint. The mac nut pancake and the sauce was good, but not mouthwatering amazing. Everything else (sausage and egg) was the same typical Hawaiian breakfast fare.
(3)Corin K.
The food here is awesome my favorite is the pulehu ribs and, of course the Mac nut pancakes! The food is totally worth the wait! If you don't want to wait you can be like me and order ahead for takeout and go eat your food at the beach!
(5)Mia D.
I love coming here but I hate the wait no matter what time of day you come. We came during the business season of the year so we knew we were going to have to wait no matter where we went. We always make it a point to come here whenever we are on the island. It always make us feel more at home on the islands whenever we do. This place is still yummy and yes, I always order the pancakes, the banana nut pancakes with the mac nut sauce. It doesn't get old. It's what everyone says it is, fluffy, buttery, a little soggy because the sauce, delicious, worth the wait, filling, etc. I love it. I usually get some eggs and bacon and the usual breakfast items with it. Of course they are the same as if you were to go home and cook it or go to ihop or wherever for the breakfast items. I mean, really, you come here for the pancakes. They are truly heavenly. You can try other establishment's pancakes with their macadamia nut sauce and it wouldn't be the same. You need to come HERE to be satisfied. I've also ordered the pulehu ribs. They are pretty tasty. The sauce is delicious. It's pretty finger licking good. haha. Sometimes you can get lucky and not have to wait as long but you have to come pretty early or when everyone is at the beach and that's a hit or miss. We usually come here with a big group so we wait a little longer than most. They want everyone to stay together so if you want to be seated you need to have everyone with you and not at the target across the street or the bank or you will have to wait again. Also, note that there were 8 of us so we were split up to accommodate us. They don't move tables around because it's cramped enough in the place. They will seat you as close as possible to one another but don't be surprised if there are a couple of tables in between you. You can gripe about or wait another hour or so until the tables you want are done with their meals. When on Oahu, this is a must. I really should've taken some pancakes to go. My meal didn't last me very long because I was that hungry. Next time, I'm ordering 2 stacks. lol. One more thing...cash only!

Come early to avoid the long lines. However, today the wait for 2 (2.5 with my son) wasnt bad at all. We arrived at 0930 and was seated by 1010. The ambiance is of a diner filled with sports memorabilia. The diner is small so dont bother bringing your stroller for your infant to sit in, just bring the car seat carrier. This restaurant only takes CASH and the service is quick and efficient. The macnut pancakes are a famous hit. They are soft and fluffy and the sauce is rich yet smooth because they taste whipped. We also tried the Shrimp Alfredo Omelette with fried rice. It taste just like shrimp alfredo except inside eggs. The fried rice is very tasty and not oily. I would definitely come back for these 2 items
(4)Adam M.
This place is a tourist trap. The pancakes with macadamia nut sauce are very good but everything else is bland and pretty flavorless. I would have given 3 stars if it wasn't for the obvious price gouging going on here.
(2)Amie T.
The reviews on this place are pretty darn accurate! The wait can be long. We arrived at around 9:30 and waited 30 mins to be seated at a table for 3. The restaurant itself is smaller than I expected, but the staff is super friendly. The place is decorated with lots and lots of football memorabilia. They had footballs, helmets, and jerseys signed by the players, lots of photos of the greats and even Wheaties boxes with autographs as well. The tables had team logos on them too. The music played was a mixture of older songs, Christian music, and 90s jams. The music was not too loud and the ambiance was good. We ordered the banana mac nut pancakes and OMG!!!! They are literally to DIE for! The best pancakes I've ever had. It's all in the mac nut sauce! We also ordered the rib-eye steak breakfast plate with fried rice and eggs overeasy and the mochino chicken with steamed rice. Everything was good. The only downfall to our visit was that we loved the pancakes so much that we ordered some to-go. It took them over 30 mins to get them to us so that we could leave. We felt like maybe we had been forgotten at one point. And we also thought they would want to fill our table with new guests since we were done with our meals. I can see how they wouldn't want to ask us to leave while we were waiting for our to-go plate, but maybe they'd want to be a little faster in the delivery. This is the only reason for the 4 stars. Everything else was definitely 5 stars!!

I'll die for the Macadamia nut sauce pancakes!! It was amazing! Personally, I prefer Boots & Kimos far much than Eggs & Things. I did not like Eggs & Things, but the pancakes of Boots & Kimos were worth to wait. Shrimp alfredo omelette was also great. shrimps were really fresh, and sauce was realy nice... I recommand to visit Boots & Kimos around 1pm. you will have to wait for a long time if you visit there around 9am.
(5)Dave Y.
What can you expect when you see a line? Food is good, employees are nice, but the only downfall are the tourists. I don't mind the lines, but having people coming at you with cameras, phones, and selfie sticks kind of kills your vibe. Other then that, come for the food, but expect some delay.
(4)Cristina A.
Best pancakes I've ever eaten in my life. The macadamia nut sauce was amazing. I wanted to take some home to the mainland. I hardly ever finish my pancakes. It was so good, we ordered the pancakes twice! Ribeye steak & hash brown were delicious. Great marination.
(5)Teresa T.
The wait is insane on the weekends. Wait time for dining in and to-go orders were the same. WTH?!? If you're hungry, go elsewhere. The pancakes were normal, it was the syrup that made it slightly above average.
(3)Melissa Y.
First time to Boots and Kimo just because the line anytime I passed by before was pretty daunting, and everyone had always told us to expect at least an hour's wait. However we played it smart, had a tiny breakfast then head to Kailua for a Target run. My son and I went into the store while my husband checked in for a late lunch. "Only a 15 minute wait" -- he texted so we finished up quick and in we went! Had the oh so famous Mac Nut pancakes, mmmm. Also got my favorite Eggs Benedict. For the non breakfast crowd there are a bunch of sandwiches, my son had the ham and chesse, really flavorful. Our servers both had TRAINEE name tags on but were extremely attentive, friendly, and funny. Good service. I am reading other reviewers saying this is not a place for locals but our servers were terrific. Yes we were one of the few locals in there but who cares? The food and atmosphere was terrific. OH A BIG WARNING THIS PLACE IS CASH ONLY SO BE PREPARED (Target and an American savings Bank is across the street if you need to make an ATM run) Husband and son had no idea this place had a football theme and were thrilled to watch the college games while we ate. We will come again, probably using the same late lunch game plan. While we were there friends texted the pulehu ribs were awesome so we gotta try those.

Not sure why this place is only 3.5 stars...if it was really that low rated, I don't think people would wait 1 hour and 45 minutes to sit! Even if every single dish isn't exceptional, the Mac nut pancakes is really the best! Whenever I visit Oahu, stopping by Boots & Kimo is a MUST. Mac Nut banana Pancakes 5/5 - the sauce is magical, and the pancakes are exceptionally fluffy. You can really taste the bananas in the pancakes! Fried rice 3/5 - it's good but not the best fried rice I've had. Still, it's nice to have something other than just pancakes so it's a great thing to have on the side. Kalbi 4/5 - this was a "special" so not sure how often they service it. Everything on the meat was amazing - the cut wasn't the best but it's what I'd expect for the price. Service 4/5 - they are super busy but are good at giving all tables equal attention. Really feel the Aloha Spirit here! I will definitely be back next time I visit Oahu (hopefully soon!)

Overhyped . Zippy's breakfast is better. Food is bland. Had the spinach and mushroom omelette. Nothing special. Pancakes are ordinary with butter and Mac nut . Not worth waiting for even 10 minutes. I will not come back.
(1)Christina K.
[Dine-In] the food was mediocre and not worth the wait. It is extremely overpriced for such small portions that I would probably feel better eating my breakfast at McDonalds instead--that way I at least get faster service and probably a more satisfying experience. One example includes the side order of pork links that came out dry on a small plate with 4 at $4.95. One of our orders was also left off the menu and our group was unable to eat together. Nevertheless, the food was extremely small-portioned and lacked taste--except for the white macadamia pancakes--and my food was served cold. Our server was a trainee but the experience could still have been better. Due to the order mishap, she offered to remove it from our bill but then did not. 3 of us had also ordered the new pitaya drink which were served to 2 of us first and then 1, 10 minutes later. I'm not thrilled about this place and I'm not sure why there would be a wait line out the door. I did appreciate the effort but it failed my food and service criteria. Dishes ordered: Eggs Benedict, side order pork links, bacon omelette with fried rice, pitaya shake (we were in a party of 8)

Not a big fan of bananas but I will definitely eat the banana pancakes with macadamia nut sauce from Boots and Kimo's. Seriously, words can't even begin to explain how good this pancake is. The sauce is just to die for! Honestly, I think the best thing about this restaurant are the banana pancakes. I've had the eggs benedict and it was just mediocre. I'm drooling just thinking about their pancakes and yummy sauce. They really should consider opening a location in California. Just sayin. :) P.S. This place accepts CASH ONLY
(4)Mark T.
Most overrated and overpriced breakfast ever! $5 for a side of cornbeef hash?! I'm also a grown ass man and have no fricken time to be waiting 1hr and a half for some damn pancakes.
(1)Meli N.
Service was very friendly. Place is decorated like a sports bar. Pancakes were mediocre at best. Served with Log Cabin syrup on the table. Corned beef hash was mostly potato with a little bit of corned beef that tasted canned. They do offer a 10oz ribeye for breakfast though.

If you asked me a couple of years ago, I'd be all about it. Cheerleading the wait, saying its not that long (even for over an hour) and actually have a system down where we go and grab a Coffee Bean drink for the wait. However, one unfortunate or should I say faithful day we were overlooked and our wait extended pass 2 hours!!! Let me say first, food, is good. Not super amazing, I die kind of a deal, but the foods good. The mac nut sauce is what its all about. Pancakes or waffles, whatever you decided, the mac nut sauce makes it! This is why we wake up early and head there by 8am!! So we can wait in a ridiculous line for this sauce. How quickly I realized its ridiculous in another level. It's really not worth my time. Especially when there's so many other great Kailua eateries!!! So back to the faithful day of when my eyes saw clearly of the unfortunate time I wasted. We frequented here often, sometimes we made the drive two to three times in a week to eat here. We knew the drill come early or wait for an hour or hour and a half. This day we've been planning on with my family. My parents were coming in from California and was looking forward to this food stop. Yes, we plan our day on food stops.... My sister had the day off to spend altogether. We checked in and waited. As the hour and a half passed we began to notice that these other groups were getting their seats before us. Wait a minute.... Didn't they come after us?? How is this happening? Is someone else checking in for them? Maybe their bus tour guide??? Well, I go in and check and the girl who is always there at the front tells me that it'll be another 20 minutes. Okay, cool, we will wait. But, another 20 mins passes... And people continue to get seated. My sister goes in to check it out. As she does this another gentleman is also checking it out. He tells the hostess/ manager that he saw other groups being seated before him. She quickly copes an attitude and tells him to point these people out and that he's wrong!!! Wait, WHAT!?! Who does that??!! I get it, if its true or not, don't make the customer feel insignificant. I'm in there seeing why my sister is taking awhile, and when we go to see if our tables ready, we hear the magic words, "It'll be ready in 20 minutes!" Girl, what?? Is 20 a magic number or the go-to number? Let's just be real! At that point, I'm hungry and over it. Please remove my name. It's the local name, not the Japanese name on the list. Sorry, I won't be returning, ever. Enjoy the hype of the Japanese tour buses that drop off here ....
(1)Jade S.
Beware, CASH ONLY! But they have a ATM machine that probably charges a withdrawal fee. It's very cramped in here. I really think they should expand for their volume of customers. We brought a stroller & we couldn't fit it at the table. The food is okay but overpriced. Customer service was good. Don't think I'll come back again. Cinnamon's is better!
(3)1st A.
Brought family here...ordered banana nut pancake, blueberry pancake, strawberry waffle, shrimp Alfredo omelet, sides of Portuguese sausage, bacon, potatoes...Portuguese sausage was really good & shrimp Alfredo omelet was also good. Food is 4 stars...long line (one & a half hour wait) is 2 stars.

Not too far from the Presidential worthy Lanikai Beach, is this little Breakfast/Brunch gem. Heads up, this place is relatively small, meaning not as many tables... meaning usually a wait. Luckily, for us, even at around early lunch on a weekday, we only had to wait 30 minutes. Well worth the wait and a great pitstop along our drive around the island. The dishes my girlfriend and I devoured were the Banana Pancakes with Kimo's Macadamia Nut Sauce and Hawaiian Style Pork Ribs (incl. hashbrowns and egg). Both EXCELLENT. The pancakes were perfectly fluffy, yet moist, warm and topped with the unique and sweet Macadamia Nut Sauce. It's easy to tip my sweetness scale - the sauce was just the right amount of sweetness to leave you wanting more, while the fluffy pancakes neutralized the flavor. If you're a coffee drinker, for sure order a cup-a-jo to go with your pancakes. Great combination. I personally enjoyed the Hawaiian Style Pork Ribs. I'm a savory guy and I LOVE eating steaks for breakfast. These ribs weren't exactly a steak, but they were tender, flavorful with a nice charbroiled touch. While I can't say much for the hashbrowns and eggs... they were hasbrowns and eggs. I really enjoyed Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen. While I wouldn't call this a Hawaii specific cafe, it offers a handful of unique flavors and location tailored specialties.

Okay this was one of the places my wife had bookmarked to try. I looked and didn't see a menu and the pics were practically all of omelets and sauce drenched pancakes. I'm glad we gave it a try. The Mac nut sauce wasn't overly sweet like I thought it would be. It was cream based and the pancakes were light and fluffy (good flavor too). And the omelet (paniolo) was tasty, it was a little heavy on the tomatoes and onions (good onions) but towards the halfway point I wished I'd asked for them to go lighter on the onions. But that's just me. The paniolo omelet was corned beef hash, Swiss, tomato and onions. My wife uses the French dip as her decision factor for sandwich shops and I use biscuits and gravy for my benchmark of breakfast places. If they don't serve that I use corned beef hash. The hash was fresh and had a good flavor, I would have liked it with a bit of crunch, but it wasn't from a can and I happy about that. There is an ATM in the restaurant for those that see cash only and possibly want to change their minds. My wife took pics of the menu do they should be in the gallery. Also we were in and out in less than an hour. So while they were not pushy (in fact they were friendly and helpful) the restaurant is not a stay and have a chat after the food kind of place. More of an enjoy your food and take the conversation to the Starbucks a block over kind of place.

The experience was both good and bad. The host that put our name is was Kimiyo. She was not friendly at all . She wrote our name down and when she told us 45-60 minutes before we got seated it turned out one hour and twenty minutes . In fact others were being seated that came after our party . I determined this when Kimiyo did not want to show where we were listed on her waiting list which angered me. She need customer service skills which she lacks. When we sat down Kristi served us and was a great experience and the Macadamia nut pancakes were perfect. The restaurant needs to work on the front end since the table service and food were great!

First attempt dining here last year was a fail as there was a huge tour bus parked right in front with a huge crowd surrounding the front door. A year later, I was determined to dine here to try the infamous banana mac nut pancakes. Arrived at around 930 am on a wet Sunday to find yet another crowd waiting for a table. Walked in and were told about 30 mins. It was no more than 20 that my name was called and walked in to be seated near the window. Settled on the spam and eggs w/ hash browns for the entree yelp.com/biz_photos/boot… . Spam was perfectly fried to a golden crisp and hash browns were cooked well done as I had requested. Damn do I love Spam!!! Pretty much stuffed from the spam and eggs, I had to make room for their banana mac nut pancakes yelp.com/biz_photos/boot… . Damn the pancakes were light and fluffy filled with sweet chunks of banana similar to Dupars' is but the mac nut topping was awesome!!! Totally worth the wait and can't wait to come back for more of their mac nut pancakes!!!!

If I could give zero stars, I would, for the older woman (wears glasses) who spoke VERY rudely to customers. It seems that there are quite a bit of bad reviews involving this same rude woman, so I'm wondering why they haven't gotten rid of her yet. I was so annoyed that she would even have the audacity to speak to tourists or anyone that way. It's one thing to kindly ask a customer to move, but another to point them out personally and rudely demand them out of the way. If you cannot handle working in a busy restaurant environment, do us all a favor and get another job. Not only are we waiting a long time for a table, but having to hear this worker be so rude is very displeasing. It's unfortunate that this place serves such good breakfast food but lacks the "hawaiian hospitality"... They could definitely use a more friendly and inviting staff. Bad service is UNACCEPTABLE anywhere you go.

It's a great day when reality exceed expectations, especially when it comes to a food item with a lot of hype. I met my friend for breakfast at this spot and despite not having, say, a love affair with mac nuts, I felt like getting the "famous" mac nut pancakes would be a good move. Turns out it was - and then some! It was like eating cake, without the total sugar rush. Delightfully satisfying, perfectly sweet, different enough to be worth going back for. It was, in three words, "all-around perfect." I also appreciated the reasonable prices and portions - it was a totally normal amount of food on a plate so you didn't feel compelled to overeat or take home leftovers. The only issues were the wait time (45+ minutes on a weekday morning) and the fact that they only take cash. (Good thing the wait gave me time to run to an ATM.) I'd go back!
(4)Alexandra R.
Great diner atmosphere with a fun football twist. The servers were all friendly and knowledgeable about the food, and clearly happy to be there. Price was fair for the amount of food we got. I had the Puleho rib breakfast, and it was yummy! Mom had the banana macadamia nut short stack, Dad had the corned beef hash, and Uncle had the ham and egg combo. All was tasty and we'll definitely be back. Between here and Cinnamon's (just down the road), it's a toss up.

I visited Boots and Kimo for brunch with my husband based on my colleagues suggestion. We reached Boots around 11ish on Saturday morning and we had to wait almost an hour to get a table. By the time we got our table, my expectations had reached its peak seeing the number of people waiting to be seated and the number of to-go orders that I saw. After being seated,We ordered the Macadamia nut banana pancake ( which was supposed to be ridiculously delicious) and the Eggs Benedict ( can never go wrong with this). The order took really long to arrive and the service was slow. The Pancake had a frothy and creamy sauce- Macadamia nut sauce with very little resemblance to the actual taste of Macadamia. The Benedict was nice but it wouldn't say it was the best, I have had better. Over all I would just say that the area has many other nicer restaurants and brunch places than Boots and Kimo. DO NOT go here with great expectations as I did and don't expect very good service as you will be disappointed and will end up hating this place. The food is not great, its just a hyped place where people like me visit and end up getting disappointed!!
(2)Jackie C.
This place was awesome! You have to try the banana pancakes with macadamia nut sauce on it. The spam, eggs and fried rice is just alright but definitely get the pancakes! We got there right when it opened like literally and the whole place filled up. The only bummer is that it is cash only and there are not that many workers for how crowded it gets.
(4)Leland S.
Definitely this place deserves more than 3.5 stars. On a Sunday morning around 11am, known for their infamously ridiculous long line, we came in with the game plan of putting our names and hike to the Pillbox and comeback. However once we listed my cousin informed me were able to be immediately served. Ambiance: Parking * Parking can range from street to plaza parking. The space definitely got bigger from where they relocated but it is still competitive as the plaza shares other parking spaces. Seating * The restaurant can seat about 50 people all ranging from groups to couples; all inside seating. Feels * This place takes great pride with their celebrities, especially their football visitors. There are television screens usually displaying live football games. With hawaiian music in the background, the restaurant makes your dine quite comfortable. Food: Banana Pancakes with the Macadamia Nut -Can't top it really. You have a delicious soft pancake flavored with bananas and macnut sauce. The unique sweetness of these two just made it extra delicious. Maui Omelette- Delicious Portuguese sausage sausage mixed in with some eggs, cheese, and more. Definitely a delicious entree for a savory taste to balance out the sweetness of the banana and macnut sauce. Lemon Papaya: Simple yet delicious element with a lemon to adjust the amount of sourness to your papaya Customer Service: Servers were pretty quick with or orders and polite. Overall: 4.5 stars. My two things are always customer service and quality food. With a reasonable price I am a huge fan of Boots & Kimo's. If you find another place with macnut sauce then please let me know. Until then, I would say this is on the must list in Hawaii. Tips: CASH ONLY To avoid the line, call ahead to go. Ask for extra macadamia nut sauce and dip it in there!

If you're planning on getting the pancakes, get take out instead!!!! They quoted U.S. 1.5-2 hour wait on a Sunday afternoon. We noticed some folks getting take out, so I asked how long it would be, and they said 25-30 minutes. Our pancakes came out in less than 10 minutes. While the decor inside was okay and they were showing Sunday afternoon football, I really didn't feel like we missed out on the experience by getting take out. The pancakes lived up to the hype. You get a few different choices but the hostess recommended the banana and regular as their most popular so we got one of each. One order comes with 3 large pancakes and the famed sauce on top. We ate our pancakes outside on a bench and had the rest of the afternoon for the beach.

Long wait! Party of 5 over 2.5 hours! Ridiculous..haven't tasted food yet but just the wait..

Hands down the best breakfast I've ever had. Since it is a pretty popular place, especially for tourists, there is a bit of a wait. But I promise it's worth it! I ordered the Shrimp Alfredo Omelet, which is a very savory meal with shrimp, Alfredo sauce, mushrooms, and cheese. Incredibly delicious! It tastes exactly like a shrimp Alfredo pasta but wrapped in an omelet. My family and I shared an order of regular Mac nut pancakes and an order of red velvet pancakes. Although both are great, if I had to choose, I highly recommend the red velvet Mac nut pancakes because they're warm, fluffy, and sweet! The staff is friendly and work their butts off to get everyone their food because they understand that customers wait a while before being seated (again, it's a very busy and popular place).

Only been here 1x because I just had to try these MACADAMIA NUT PANCAKES that I hear everyone talking about. Here's the deal. The pancakes themselves are really nothing special. But the syrup or should I say SAUCE is YUUUUMM. Super thick, creamy, sweet, and bits of macadamia nuts inside. Basically dessert disguised as breakfast. I got the pancakes and a side of bacon. My boyfriend got the eggs Benedict which neither of us were amazed by and the hollandaise was too lemony for our liking. This place apparently is all the craze with the tourist as well..... We waited about an hour to be seated. Which I normally wouldn't do but I was determined to try the pancakes. Inside it's very small, crowded and loud. Not very enjoyable but for a 1x experience I can deal. Cash only FYI. I probably wouldn't come back again.

Came back today 7/30/15 almost two years later and still amazing!!! The service is amazing the macadamia nut pancakes are so fluffy and delicious.
(5)Nikkay K.
No where can best their Mac Nut sauce even though many places try to. Almost everything on the menu is great. So good you better expect to wait to get seated and to be a little crowded by people at your table. Compromises!
(4)Pri Y.
Need I say anything about their macadamia nut sauce pancakes??!! You have to try them!! Everything else is pretty good but not as amazing as their pancakes! People travel the world just for them!! And their guava juice is yummy!
(5)Lindsay D.
We knew since it was a touristy spot that there would be a wait, so came fairly early to beat the crowds, which might I add baffles me that others here complaining about the wait didn't think of that. Came on a Sunday at 8am with a 15-20 min wait. Ordered the Kalbi short rib w fried rice, banana pancake w Mac but sauce, and a side of Portuguese sausage. Worth to try while you're visiting, expect a longer wait for bigger groups. Food was satisfying as I can't sit up straight anymore b/c I'm that full. All in all, if you don't like to wait, have an awful taste bud palate don't even bother cause you'll just complain because you hate life. You're in Hawaii for Christ sake, enjoy it!

One of my favorite Breakfast spot to go too when I'm in Kailua. Must try their Banana macadamia not pancakes, so ono*liciousss and sweet! My usual order would either be their seafood omelette or shrimp Alfredo omelette cause it's so good! especially for seafood lovers like myself. I had to minus One Star because 1.) they accept CASH PAYMENTS only! I don't know how you can be such a popular breakfast joint and not accept debit or credit card payments?! and 2.) the WAIT TIME is just absolutely ridiculously crazy. This place really need to consider about renovating and expanding their restaurant so that more people can be seated and serviced quicker. That is all. Aside from that though, their food served is worth trying!

On a Friday at 10:30am, the wait time was 1-hr. Lots of tourists from Japan, too. Most customers probably ended up doing what we did to kill time....pull out some cash (no credit cards accepted) from the local ATM, walk to Target, or check out Hawaiian Island Creations (HIC). Everything was conveniently located across the street. Our name was called in exactly 1-hr. Our party of 2 was seated at the window with menus. It probably took a good 10 mins before our server came to take our order. He used an electronic tablet, so our juice came out in a blink of an eye and our food in about 10 mins. I liked the fast service, especially after waiting for so long just to get a seat. Our server and the kitchen were definitely on top of things! I ordered Eggs Florentine and shared the Kimo's Famous Macadamia Nut Sauce on their Onolicious Pancakes (Regular/Plain) with my hubby - sauce on the side. (He ordered an omelet and will tell you about that in his Yelp Review). Ya know, I thought the macadamia nut sauce was going to be really sweet. It's not! It just has an airy consistency with a hint of macadamia and topped with nuts. It was a great topping for the plain pancakes. No need to add butter or syrup. It was just perfect. So perfect, we inhaled those pancakes before our main entrees were delivered. Eggs Florentine. OMG! So delicious!! The eggs were on point. The muffin had a slight crunch to it. The combination of the hollandaise sauce with garlic folded into the spinach made it such a delight!! I couldn't finish it though! So, you could probably even share this with your special someone since you HAVE TO order the pancakes with macadamia nut sauce. If you're a football fan, you'll like the decor. Framed jerseys and helmets everywhere. At the entrance, there's an article on Kimo and what his life story was like before he ended up with this awesome restaurant. Enjoy every minute of it!!

My family and I had plans to check out the Kailua Summer Fest this past Saturday. Starving for brunch, we decided to check out Booths & Kimo's as it's owned by my sister's friend's family. Thanks to our "connections", we were lucky enough to get seated quicker than usua. On the way in, I did hear the hostess tell a guest that the wait was around 1 hr, probably because the seating area itself is smaller than I imagined. Like I said, we were definitely lucky. The menu itself is small too, but that didn't necessarily mean that ordering would be easy. I was star-struck at the amount of omelettes they had! We were heading to Polynesian Cultural Center later that day, so I knew I wanted something that was going to be filling. I went with the bacon and swiss cheese omelette with added spinach, and chose their fluffy white rice. The omelette was huge and stuffed with bacon - just how I like it. I wished they would've used cheddar or mozzerella because the bacon, swiss and egg didn't work for me. The rice wasn't necessarily fluffy - more so sticky - but I had no complaints because I'm Filipino and LOVE sticky, white rice. My boyfriend ordered steggs (aka steak & eggs), and my sister and her friend ordered omelettes as well. I also ordered their famous macadamia pancakes to share. They were so, so good I forgot to share (no regrets!). Parking is free both on the street and in the back of the restaurant. Be careful with your timing because I saw a security guard issuing parking violations and marking tires by the hour. I didn't see a time limit as to how long you were able to stay parked. If I had to guess, I'd say 2 hours. Take heed!

I usually hate when someone mentions service in a food review, however, the wait time was insane. 1 hour and 20 min. I would not recommend going ina a large group, and if u do, split up. Be prepared to see people walk in and out before you get seated, there's literally more ppl waiting then there are siting and eating. It's probably not heir fault, especially since the place used to be smaller apparently. I'm not gonna be like these douches who give one star based in the service cause that's nit what I really care about. Seriously though if your hungry and go here, bring some snacks for the wait, maybe download a movie on ur phone. With that being said, that's the only reason for the -1 star, and I would give a 4.5. It s just the wait was really that painful. I got CBH with fried rice, and a short stack of Mac pancakes. Mac pancakes were amazing as expected, especially the first couple bites, after a while, it's necessary to take a bite of something salty(they are pretty sweet). The CBH was really good, homemade style, and the fried rice had some meat, green onions and other spices ,everything was hella good. Could've used a Bloody Mary after that wait. Honestly, it's really good, but the wait is so bad lol. It's local and has a great feel, but damn, I've had some bomb breakfast everyday here, even at harbor pub and pizza (Hawaii bread French toast), as well as Mac 24/7. Just hard to believe I'd wait so long for breakfast. Bottom line the food is great but the wait time is extreme.
(4)Taylor L.
I went with my friend after coming back from the beach and we got there around 11AM on a Sunday so I figured from the reviews that there would be a decent wait to get a table. When we got there they told us an hour wait. No big deal~ there were other things to do while we waited so we weren't too worried about a wait. The hour came and went and we still were waiting for a table. It took another 20-30 minutes for us to finally get inside!!! We got greeted by our server right away and since we waited so long we already knew what we wanted to order. I ordered the Maui Portugese sausage breakfast, which came with eggs and fried rice. My friend ordered the Mac Nut French Toast with a side of grilled potatoes and Portugese sausage. Pretty simple right!? Thought since I ordered a simple menu item we wouldn't have to wait too long...think again! Here is the main reason why I will only give this place 3 stars. After we ordered we waited another 30 MINUTES till our food finally came out. When we finally got our food it was so delicious but honestly not worth the 1 and 1/2 hour wait to get a table and then another 30 minutes to wait for our food! I would recommend this place if you're willing to wait for pretty much two hours or so for good food then go for it! They need to seriously figure out their kitchen situation because they produce food WAY too slow from what I experienced and what I watched in the restaurant while waiting for my food. But I think there are better places to go with a lot shorter wait!
(3)Michele L.
Of course, I had to experience their signature banana pancakes with macadamia nut sauce since my friends kept raving about them. It turns out they were right. They really are the best pancakes I've ever had! At first glance, they look rich, huge, & overwhelming. Looks can be deceiving. They were light, fluffy, and the macadamia nut sauce was not too rich nor too sweet. This is what a pancake should taste like! Also, we had ordered the Portuguese sausage omelette with hash browns. That was good too but not as addicting as those pancakes! The only cons - they only accept cash but they have an ATM inside the restaurant and they are busy. We waited for 45 minutes but the wait for the pancakes are well worth it.
(5)Josh L.
The wait is always long, but the food is always worth it. I've been here about 5 times and never had a problem parking. Service is always good, hostess and servers are always friendly and helpful. Despite all the tourists always trying to jump the line, staff always remains polite. Banana Mac nut pancakes, just get them. Have them as an appetizer, breakfast, or dessert... you can't go wrong. The Portuguese sausage omelette was also better than I expected. I've never been disappointed with anything on the menu.

3 words: MACADAMIA NUT SAUCE. If I could put the emoji of the face with it's tongue out like a million times I would. This place is ridiculously delicious. The hype is real! I planned a trip to Hawaii a couple of weeks ago and this was on the top of the list of places to eat. For some reason, not sure why, I assumed this was in the Waikiki area. It's totally not. It's about a half hour drive out here, but it's so worth it! I got here around 11:30 after a morning of snorkling and it was still about a 30-45 minute wait. Finally got seated at the 49er table (Go Niners!)! Ordered one macadamia nut sauce pancakes and one order of the portugese sausage and fried rice plate and my boyfriend and I shared the two plates. Both dishes were bomb.com . They were a little pricey but it was worth it. The portugese sausage with fried rice was really good too! The fried rice had bits of bacon in it! Whaaat?! Made it 10x better! But obvi the crown jewel, was hands down the macadamia nut sauce pancakes! It was like heaven in every bite. The deliciousness was unreal. So good, I'm actually craving it right now! If you're visiting Oahu make a stop here. You won't regret it!

We have been here twice now for breakfast. I am a huge breakfast lover. After eating here I have come to the conclusion that I will get my man some cooking lessons on how to make those banana pancakes with macadamia nut sauce or I will never be satisfied again. There is a lack of parking as most places seem to have. This is CASH ONLY. There will be a wait. There is only 1 bathroom. Which blows when you are potty training your 3 year old. I will definitely come back to satisfy my craving before I leave this beautiful island. Tip: Also check out the extensive omelet menu. I truly want to check it out but I can't seem to get those pancakes out of my head.

Every local I've spoken to urged that I come to Boots & Kimos for breakfast. We started off a mile away at Lanikai for the Pillsbox trail hike to see the sunrise at 6:30AM, then went straight to Boots at 7:30AM right when they opened. People say there are lines already, but we got there around 8AM with a party of 15 and was seated right away, no wait! Good to note that there was a line that built up when we were leaving at 9AM. Seemed like a 20 minute wait. Everyone ordered the pancakes with the macadamia nut sauce, SO GOOD. I'd recommend getting one serving to share - it's a bit much for myself because of the sweetness. Definitely a MUST though :) I got the shrimp Alfredo omelette, $14, and was hands down the best omelette. I nibbled bites off other omelettes that our huge party got, and nothing compared to mine. Sides can be hash browns, toast or rice. Their fried rice is really good, and juices are cheap, $2.50 and freshly squeezed. Yum, guava juice. If you're on the island, Boots & Kimos is an absolute must. Not touristy, yummy brunch.

SOOOO ONOLICIOUS! Came here with my boyfriend and a friend after a hike in Kailua, and it was phenomenal! We arrived at 7:15 AM (open time at 7:30), and we were still the 7th party in line. Banana mac pancakes were so delicious, and the Portuguese sausage omelette was pretty good was well! Guava juice had the right amount of sweetness, and the service was super friendly and quick!
(5)Caleb S.
I am never disappointed when I leave this place! We always make a point to suggest it to visitors we meet or bring friends who are visiting. I've watched people literally lick their plate clean to get every bit of the macadamia nut sauce of it. Everything else on their menu is cooked well also, and we always leave very satisfied. I normally try to show up by 8 o'clock to avoid a long wait, but when that doesn't happen, we just walk over to Starbucks down the road, grab a coffee, and enjoy Kailua town. Trust me...the food is always worth the wait. The cash only part is a slight downside but really not that big of a deal, and to be honest the food really isn't any more expensive than any other sit down breakfast place.

Oh Boots and Kimos. Everyone on this island talks about how amazing the food is and how you have to come here for breakfast. So two years ago for my birthday my mom and I decided to wake up early and brave the crowds to see what all the hype was about. Now my major complaint was the decor. I'm not saying everything has to be frilly and covered with flowers. However, when I go out to breakfast I don't want to feel like I'm in a bright sports bar. I felt like we were at a bar that just so happened to serve breakfast and not a place that's famous for their breakfast and I'm pretty sure closes around two. Also because they're so busy there's a lot of tables crammed in there. It kind of reminded me of New York City. So people kept bumping into our chairs and it just had a very cramped feel. That being said the food was good. My mom got the pakalolo omelette and I got a Benedict and we both thought the food was delicious. I ordered takeout from here about a year ago when I was meeting a friend and we enjoyed our food at the beach and it was a much more enjoyable experience. Though I don't know if the wait is worth the food seeing as how there's so many delicious breakfast places around. If you want to see what the hype is about my recommendation is order take out and head over to Kailua and Lanikai beach.
(4)Helen T.
We avoided the infamous long lines by coming at 1:30pm, just 30 minutes before they closed. We were seated in 15 minutes! We ordered the famous banana pancakes with macnut syrup and the corn beef hash with fried rice. The macnut syrup was as tasty as everyone raved about and the corn beef hash/fried rice was solid. The place is super casual with no fancy plating - I wished we had taken it to go and gone to the beach earlier! Not sure if I would brave through hours of waiting and fighting Japanese tourists to find a seat - so glad we came late!
(4)Tyler M.
Maybe I had too high of an expectation when I came here. There was a big line waiting outside before they opened (good sign), but almost every one was a tourist. The quality of the food was good (I ordered a paniolo omelet and the mac nut pancakes). Both were good, but the price was a bit over the top. Tax and tip included, an omelet and short stack cost $20. The portions aren't that big either. This place isn't a bad option, but I would look around Kailua before designating this your go to breakfast place (maybe take a look at Cinnamon's)

I had been reading up reviews about this place and I am glad I listened to them. Yes, the wait is long, very long if you decide to sit there and eat but as stated in some reviews, I too will recommend ordering To-Go. The husband and I decided to give Boots and Kimo a call to place an order of their delicious Mac Nut Pancakes. I was told it would take about 45 minutes for my order to be ready. 45 minutes for a pancake stack that will be to go... pretty crazy huh! But the good thing was that we had about that much time before showing up to Boots so it was perfect. We showed up just 30 minutes shy from their closing time and as I was waiting for my turn with the hostess to let her know I was there to pick up my order, I over heard her let the person in front of me know that it will take a good hour to hour and a half wait before they could be seated. Gosh! As a person that suffers from hunanger, I wouldn't be able to patiently wait for that on a very hungry tummy. I walked up to the hostess and informed her I was there to pick up my order and sure enough it was ready. Woot woot!! The husband and I enjoyed the pancakes at a bench outside. It sure felt wonderful to walk in and out of the restaurant within minutes with our super fluffy pancakes and the mac nut sauce that was just so so perfect! It wasn't overly sweet (like I was expecting it to be). I do wish I had more Mac Nut Sauce though. For those of you wondering what it taste like, it reminded me a little of condense milk. I would totally love to go back to get me another order today. Tip: - Cash only - Order to go to avoid the crazy long wait - As for extra mac nut sauce on the side

Coming here last week was the first time I'd come to Boots and Kimo's in three years. I'd been dreaming of those silky, light, fluffy macadamia pancakes with that luscious sauce... My friend and I came here early (around 8:00 AM) for breakfast and there was still a wait, but it definitely wasn't as long as the last time I ate here. There was about a 15 minute wait, but it flew by, and we were in before we knew it. (Tip: go early) I ordered the Banana macadamia nut pancakes with the macadamia nut sauce, and my friend got the Portuguese sausage and eggs with white rice. It came out in about 15-25 minutes, so it wasn't that bad. The wait was definitely worth it. My pancakes were the best pancakes I'd ever tasted. I mostly enjoyed them because they were light and fluffy and FILLED with extreme macadamia flavor. This is such a rarity because in other pancake places, they cook dense cakes that are overwhelmingly filling and too much for me to handle. But I had a 3-stack order and ALMOST finished the entire thing. I couldn't waste pancakes made of gold. They were too delicious. As for the service, we were treated with the best care. Our waitress was so nice and always came by to check on us. We also saw some customers taking pictures with their waiters because they were so kind. The atmosphere / environment was lively but not too loud. Boots and Kimo's has a football sports-themed restaurant, which I thought was really cool. Overall, this restaurant was absolutely phenomenal and I'll definitely come back. They serve THE BEST pancakes on the island, and I can't wait to come back next time.
(5)Tippany S.
Two stars for food, no stars for the rude service we witnessed and received. We called ahead to ask about reservations and were told they don't accept reservations, so we ended up doing take out. Great idea since the wait was over an hour and a half at 1030am. Upon arriving to pick up our food, we asked the hostess if we could go to the cashier and were told to get into a long line behind guests that were checking in for a table. We couldn't simply go to the cashier to pay our meal. So we had to wait in one long line to get our bill and then stand in a second long and slow moving line to pay our bill. While waiting in the second line, a server came behind us and loudly said "EXCUSE ME!" Good thing we stepped aside while turning around because he was mid stride to walk thru us! As he walked by, my shoulder length hair brushed the food he was carrying and he had no idea because he was walking so fast and without being aware of his surroundings. My friend had thought from her view that the plate had brushed my face as it went by. Shortly after that, I witnessed the hostess grabbing menu from the guest behind us and heard her say, "please leave the menu alone. You can look at it outside." I was flabbergasted. Who treats their guests like this?! This guest may have wanted to add on to her order, and the hostess just stole that chance from her and eliminated a potential sale. The guest this happened to was a Japanese tourist, like many of the guests here. It's disappointing to see a local business treat their customers this way. You'd think that with how much they thrive off of the tourist industry they'd treat their guests with greater customer service than that. When we finally arrived at the counter, we had to wait AGAIN to have our food come from the kitchen! Upon checking our order, we discovered there wasn't any syrup or butter for the pancakes we ordered, we ordered four entrees and only had utensils for three and no napkins. Based on the portions provided, I believe they are overpriced. If I visited again, it would be take out only. I wouldn't want to waste my time waiting outside in the hot sun to be treated the way I was treated today and how I saw others treated. Also, the only method of payment is cash. That's right, it's 2015 and they don't accept debt or credit cards. I am always weary of businesses that only accept cash as it makes me wonder what they're reporting as their profit for taxes.

We always have a great time here. Excellent service & the food is so yummy!! Worth the wait.

Aloha! Wiping the drool as I write this short and sweet review. This is a must eat! Take the scenic drive on the Pali Highway (61) from Honolulu. The hype is real here, so a few pointers to make your visit here an enjoyable one. 1) Come early or be prepared to wait at least an hour! (You can also order for take out if you don't want to risk the wait). 2) Be patient and have the Aloha spirit while here, as service can be slow (but the staff hustles and does the best they can to accommodate). 3) Bring cash! 4) Order the banana pancakes with the creamy mac nut sauce/syrup. Pancakes are light and fluffy, and not overwhelming (as I'm not usually a pancake eater). The sauce is outstanding and the best I've ever had. You will lick the sauce clean from the plate. Mahalo and enjoy!
(5)Annalei A.
Definitely worth the wait! Come in at around 10am. We had no idea it was going to be thy busy! We waited for a little more than an hour. Good thing there's benches outside, and Target across the street to pass time. The banana macadamia nut pancake was my favorite! And the French toast with their macadamia nut sauce was amazing! Definitely will be coming back to try the rest of the menu or more of that banana pancake!
(5)Ian G.
This place is a Joke. Great pancakes but that's pretty much it. How can you have a legit establishment without accepting debit/credit cards. The line is so long mostly due to the fact that the restaurant itself is so small and cramped. The service is extremely poor! Highly doubt you get refills and I doubt you will see your waiter/tress after you order your food. I believe many of the servers don't come back so that they can rush you out the door. This business/ revenue thrives on Japanese Tourists from Waikiki. But if they knew this place had poor service they wouldn't come back again. I recommend going to Big City Diner (3 minutes away) you can get nearly the same MAC pancakes without the long wait. You can even go to Cinnamons or Crepes No Ka Oi.
(1)Mimi N.
If you're ever in the mood for a big solid breakfast and you're willing to wait for your food, make a stop by this place. I had breakfast here and it was quite a filling and yummy meal. My only suggestion is to get here a little before opening time, in order to avoid the big line that comes later in the morning. Trust me, it's worth coming early since this place gets packed pretty quickly and service isn't always the quickest. For breakfast, I ordered the classic banana pancakes with the macadamia nut sauce. My friend ordered the Portuguese Sausage meal and both dishes were tasty. The sausage meal was quite savory and not too salty. As for the banana pancakes, this was definitely my favorite. Light, fluffy and loaded with the sweet fruity taste of bananas and the slight crunch of the macadamia nuts used in the sauce, this was an absolute YUM. I was pretty surprised to see how big one pancake was and how thick it could be. If anything, I would just come back here again for the pancakes. Overall, service here isn't too bad. When the place got packed, it did take some effort to flag down the wait staff if you needed something. Our food arrived around 45 min ish after we ordered and while it did taste pretty good, I wish it was a bit hotter instead of room temperature. As for the décor of the place, it's warm and cozy with all the various football gear laying around. Downside to this place: Cash only. Breakfast here isn't the cheapest, so prepare to bring a nice chunk of money to spend on the food.

I asked someone about Boots & Kimo and asked if it was worth the hype. They replied they've been thinking about the macadamia nut pancakes for 8 years. YIKES!!! So they love the pancakes like I love good foie gras. LOL.... Got here super early and there was no wait. +1. Noticed at the door, CASH only -1 Servers were really prompt and attentive. +1 Corn beefed hash seemed out of a can and made into a round shape (hey! I could have done that at home!!!) -1 Macadamia Nut Pancakes were really tasty. Pancakes are pancakes, but their sauce is really good. +1 Paid at the counter, made to wait even though they weren't busy because the cashier wanted to chat and not do her job. Then didn't even smile and was rather unpleasant. -1. All in all, its overrated. YES, the macadamia nut pancakes are good, but they're not I've gone and died to heaven good. It's ALLLLL the way over in Kailua. And its a trek no matter where you are unless you live on that side. Not worth the drive or any potential wait. Husband said his omelet was good, but dayum, its an omelet, right? Is that really complicated? Nah, thinks not. They get an a-ok but I won't come back unless I absolutely must kind of a thing.
(3)Elsie S.
Ambiance Once a hole in the wall, local ma and pa shop, now a bustling spot filled with locals craving that comfort goodness and tourists wanting a piece of the pancake. Be prepared for a long wait of at least 45 minutes, both on weekdays and weekends. Food The infamous pile of pancakes smothered in macadamia nut sauce! It's fluffy, sweet, creamy yumminess. This is what Heaven must feel like... in your mouth! Also love the omelets with melted gooey cheeses! My favorite is eggplant parmigiana, sweet and tangy tomato sauce, mixed with breaded eggplant, and cheese oozing out. Hashbrowns are okay. Nothing special. I recommend to upgrade to the fried rice. Customer Service Straight to the point service with a smile. Parking Parking lot in the back and plenty on the street. Overall The food is dreamy, worth 5 stars. However, the long wait and over crowdedness brings it down to 4. Be prepared to wait, it is worth the wait! Just do not come hangry, otherwise you will get more hangry. Tips Bring cash. Ask for a side of the mac nut sauce and dip your pancakes, if you love it as much as I do!
(4)Ram K.
Banana pancakes with mac nut sauce!! Side order grilled ham steak. 5/5 Service is much improved than the last two times I've been there. This time they checked up on us a couple if times. Food came out in a timely manner. 5/5 Serving size for the passion orange guava juice is tiny. For $2.95 I'd expect a grown up cup. 1/5 Bacon omelet with hash browns. 3/5 average nothing special. Personally I go just for the pancakes and MAC NUT SAUCE!!!
(4)George M.
brunch with the wifey and what an amazing experience.. Great sports memorabilia atmosphere, service was good but had to wait 45 minutes for our table.. server recommended the short rib breakfast and the shrimp Alfredo omelette and we finished with the red velvet pancake.. must try all.!!
(4)Arica H.
Well worth the wait! Saw them on Diners Drive-Ins & Dives while at home on the main land and had to try it out when we visited family on Oahu! The blueberry pancakes with the macadamia nut sauce was out of this world!! Would go back in a heartbeat!!!

An update to my review from 2 years ago. Service has not gotten any better. In fact it's gotten worse. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. HORRIBLE treatment to LOCALS! My friend and I decided to phone order instead of dealing with the crowd thinking that we could at least enjoy the food without waiting for hours in line. My friend ordered his food and the person on the line repeated back everything he said correctly. He then told her he wanted to add on to his order and gave the phone to me. When I got on the phone the girl put me on hold. 5 minutes later someone else comes on the line and asks me how she can help me. I told that I was adding on to my friends order and she asked me what it was again. She wanted us to repeat everything we had just ordered because the other person who took the order said they couldn't understand. My friend asks what's the problem because what he ordered was repeated back correctly. This girl started yelling at my friend on the phone, then there was dead silence and my friend asked so are you going to take our order then? She yelled back "yea I waiting for you. You not talking." By this time we were already in Kailua. The girl on the phone said "you know what just come in da store and order. My name KRYSTAL, ask for me den." Pretty much calling my friend out. Where in the world do these people think it's ok to talk to paying customers like this? My friend went in there and chewed her ass out twice in front of the whole restaurant. Serves you right for treating locals like crap. LOCALS are your repeat business and they're the ones who can refer their out of state friends to you. Needless to say I'm done giving this place chances. I work too hard to give it to people who disrespect me, my family and friends.

Macadamia nut pancakes! The hour and a half wait was well worth it! My family decided to come here after coming from Lanikai Beach! I loved how I was able to just sit with wet trunks and sandy toes. The service was great and the food was excellent! The decor inside was a sports fan paradise with memorabilia throughout including the restrooms! There are enough NFL Helmets and Jerseys to make you feel you're inside an actual eBay auction or Footlocker! Being a die hard Chargers Fan, it was a little intimidating to see so much Bronco Gear and huge John Elway posters lol! I was still able to enjoy the meal though and the passion mango juice was the perfect compliment to my steak and eggs! My wife ordered the eggs Benedict which I helped her finish... Can't wait to be back to enjoy more homestyle breakfast! Be sure to bring a hat and shades as you'll need it when you wait. Or just walk over to the Target! Keep in mind you must be present when your name is called otherwise you will lose your spot and the next present party will e seated. Snooze you lose... Shuffle your feet, lose your seat!!!

Amazing! The pancakes with the macadamia sauce was delicious! The wait is long but worth it! Great food very friendly service!! If the wait wasn't so long we would have this more often!(45 min wait and we got there at 8am 1 hr after opening on Saturday)We also had bacon omlet. There was a ton of bacon in the omlet! It was great as well!

Believe the hype! Boots and Kimo was every bit as good as everyone led it to be! On a Wednesday morning in March, we waited about 45 minutes for a group of 4, and we arrived at the restaurant around 9am. I've heard of stories of people who wait hours, but luckily there is a Target across the street to help you kill time. The theme of this place is sports. Jerseys and banners hanging on the walls, and logos on the tables. As for food, I went with the Hawaiian corned beef hash (not really sure what made it "Hawaiian?"...) while my bf went for the seafood omelet. And of course, we had to get a short stack (1 pancake) of their infamous banana pancake covered in macadamia nut sauce. Verdict? My corned beef hash was alright, but the seafood omelet and pancakes were amazing! The banana pancake was not overly flavored and the macnut sauce was amazing! No butter or syrup needed. Service seemed on point when we were there but I can see how slow and overwhelming it can be when there are hoards of people waiting outside. Cash-only establishment! I'll definitely be back but will be back early in the AM to avoid that ridiculous wait!

When my cousin asked what we wanted to do for breakfast - did we want to go to Boots & Kimo's, I jumped at the chance. I would finally get the chance to see if they lived up to the hype. We ordered a plate of banana pancakes with the mac nut sauce to share for the table. Pancakes took forever to come. Pancakes finally came - other dishes then took forever to come. We decided to gobble down the pancakes first before they got cold (no plates?). The pancakes were good - the mac nut sauce was also pretty good. But I didn't think it was life-changing. I also didn't think it was worth waiting 45 minutes for a table. Eggs Benedict finally comes - cousin found a hair in hers. Waiter took it back, kitchen made her a new one, and they comped us BOTH Eggs Benedict dishes that we ordered. I really like that they did that - they didn't need to comp my dish but they did. Excellent customer service/reaction. But food is slowwwwww. Or maybe it's just because I'm a NYer and we do everything fast here?

Great place for breakfast but it can get quite busy. We had no problem getting a seat right away since our entire party was already their. Everyone their is kind and really attentive to your needs. Their is a lot of sports memorabilia so you know it's pretty chillax. My meal: Top sirloin steak, fried rice, & two eggs made over easy. They steal was maybe cooked a little more on the medium side of medium rare but it was still great to eat. Eggs were cooked perfect and oozed as you dug into them. Fried rice was seasoned well. Of the many breakfast places, this one ranks second for me.

Be warned this is a touristy spot that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins , & Dives so expect a long wait especially at peak hours and if you have a large party. Breakfast was really good here and ordered the banana Mac nut pancakes and Kalbi short rib breakfast with a side of Portuguese sausage. Pancakes were good and the syrup was more of a whipped topping that was delicious. Kalbi was a little on the fatty side but they were way thicker than your standard Kalbi and very flavorful. Portuguese sausage was three slices and very good as well. Someone wrote a review that they were small but they were standard size and a portion I would expect for a breakfast meat side. Overall a good local spot for breakfast that's one of those places you have to hit up if you're just visiting.

I heard many people complain about their crazy waiting time....so we kinda expected (I mean emotionally prepared lol) but it was not so bad. I guess we were just lucky. the macadamia nut sauce was amazing! I don't think I have ever had pancake like that...yes thats the pancake you can eat only at boots and kimo's.

My first time here. I always thought small business would be friendly. I had a party of 8 the host told me it'll be around 45-1 hour wait. After an hour past we waited for another half and hour. The host was really nice her name was nadine. We order our food our waitress jewel was awesome she gets a 5star because she did everything she can to make us happy. Now the food runner Sarah or what ever her name is. She didn't have a name tag on but we had to ask a worker for her name. She gave everybody the food that order after our table. And as she was dropping our food off she was giving us major attitude and she literally threw my food to my hand and it almost fell down. Like seriously that made me angry and I didn't even enjoy my food.my food wasn't great I also was excited to try the mac nut pancake I didn't not taste any mac nut it was pretty much just regular pancakes that I could of made myself. As we was getting our check it took about 40 mins to get our check and it was so simply. I'm pretty dissapointed in this place and I won't be back due to the experience I had here. So readers! If you want to wait 1 1/2 for you to get seated another 30 mins to order and another 35 mins to get food and not but not least another 40 mins to get the check then this is the spot for you cause it sure not the spot for me and the food didn't even amaze me!

I'm not a breakfast person, and I most certainly am not a pancake person. After trying out this place, I can say that I'm still not a breakfast person, but I am starting to warm up to pancakes. I came here early on a weekday morning (around 8ish) and our party of 6 was seated right away. I would definitely suggest coming early because when we finished eating at 9 there was a huge line outside. Also make sure to bring lots of cash cause this place is cash only.... As for the food, I ordered an omelette as well as their signature macadamia nut pancakes. The omelette was okay, nothing special. I can't remember the name of the omelette that I got, but I felt that the egg to stuffing ratio was a little bit off. At one point it felt like I was just eating endless spoonfuls of tomatoes. A friend that I was with thought her omelette was way to cheesy. So I guess with regards to their omelettes, I wasn't all that impressed. But the pancakes were a different story. They were perfectly fluffy, and the macadamia nut sauce was amazing. It was like melted ice cream drizzled all over your pancake. I'd eat the sauce by itself any day. So so delicious. So if I ever come back to this place, it would solely be for these pancakes. If it weren't for these, I'd only have rated this place 3 stars. But man oh man, those pancakes were bomb.

Let me preface by saying that I am an avid local business supporter. But after this visit I can't measure my disappointment. I would've given one star but the macadamia nut pancakes somewhat redeemed itself. The main issue was the service. It was terrible. After ordering our food we received our drinks. We waited 25 minutes for our food to come out and no one came to check in with us to let us know the status of our order. In addition, no one refilled our waters while we waited. When our food finally came out, it was room temperature at best. The iced coffee was watery. We asked for a new one and there still was no change. It pretty much was water with a hint of coffee. The staff didn't seem friendly. More often than not they came across as aloof and distant. Overall, it seems like the company relies so heavily on Japanese customers that its staff is complacent not just with the service but with the quality of the food and the overall experience. There is something charming and appealing about local Hawaiian businesses. Every customer is made to feel like they're part of their ohana or at the very least lifelong neighbors. I wish that could be said about Boots and Kimos. No amount of sports or Hawaii decor can mask the lack of aloha in this place. While I applaud that they've been featured on the food network, it should be used as a baseline for how their business should be run and how they can be better.

What a missed opportunity. The famous mac nut pancakes are truly unique, and although I think most of the special sauce is butter, it still worked for me and provided great flavor for the fluffy pancakes. Sadly, the wait time, quoted as 30-45 minutes but lasting an hour, made us fairly unhappy campers before we even took our seats. The wait staff was courteous but slow and absent-minded; though we were among the last parties seated, we had to remind our waiter more than once to check on my pancakes, which arrived a good ten minutes after the rest of our order. I really felt the low blood sugar kicking in at the end, and I was simply so exhausted by the whole experience that it was hard to enjoy the food. Boots & Kimo's reminds me of Salsa & Beer, another ampersanded, family-run restaurant in LA that has outgrown itself, and they need a real kick in the pants to iron out the inefficiencies. I would not return unless I was absolutely sure that there wouldn't be a huge wait, like I'd maybe drive by with another plan in mind and stop in only if the timing worked out. But again, the pancakes are fantastic.

It seems more like a tourist attraction that a place to grind. So just know that before you go. Not my place but try it out for yourself. CASH ONLY. First off, the wait. It's bad. And people come in by the bus load. Serious. Get there early and be ready to wait. Everyone needs to be there before you get seated. The food. There are pancakes with lots of macnut sauce. I saw the red velvet pancakes after I already ordered. The pancakes aren't really fluffy and they weren't to die for but they were enjoyable. The sauce wasn't too sweet and it didn't get too soggy. So yeah it was just right. It ain't no Hawaiian style cafe ;-) The Pulehu ribs are supposedly really good but I don't like my ribs charred or fatty, which is the highlight of these ribs! Fried rice was good. Corned beef hash tasted like it was based on canned stuff. As in no big hunks o' corned beef with those crispy potatoes. Juice didn't taste like fresh juice as it was advertised. It tasted like carton juice. So I could have done without. Street parking. Don't forget cash only. Bathrooms inside. And be ready to wait. And the crowd just keeps on coming!

We came here to try there famous pancakes. My husband and I are not really pancake people, my two kids got the pancakes and oh my gosh the flavor of the sauce "macadamia nut sauce" was delish! My kids didn't even want to share! I got the ribs and hubby got the omelette it was both very good! I wish we can take the sauce home!!
(5)Joanne K.
4-star food, but was unimpressed because we waited 2 hours to eat here! The famous banana macadamia pancakes were indeed delicious, but probably not worth the 2 hours. Get here very early or very late to enjoy. Other menu items didn't seem too spectacular, so come for the pancakes primarily.

Pancakes with Mac nut sauce was amazing. Shared a full stack with my sis. Friendly staff and fast service.
(5)Shari Y.
Oh my! Banana Mac Nut Pancakes made my mouth do the hula. I may never go home! I arrived at 7:38am, eight minutes after opening, which was a good thing because the place was already packed. Only draw back, cash only. Fortunately I had some cash stashed away or I could have had an issue.

If I'm going to Boots & Kimo I expect a long wait, a dose of attitude and ok to pretty good food at an exorbitant price. Why go then? It always involves out of town guests. Usually from Japan. Japanese taste in American breakfast baffles me. The places that they will stand in line for leaves me scratching my head. 10:27am: Placed name on waiting list. Told that it would be a 45 min wait. 11:30am: Check w hostess. "Just four parties in front of you" we're told. Of course we start counting parties. After the 6th party is called my wife inquires about our place in line. "I DONT KNOW!!" We bite our tongues and smile at our guests. 12noon: We are called and seated after 1 1/2 hours. During the 90 minute wait we notice also them pulling friends out of line and seating them with little to no wait. So a girl comes up to our table and asks us in Japanese if we want to order drinks. I order four coffees in English. She leaves without a word. 12:10pm: The girl who would be our server came to take our beverage order. We told her that we ordered 4 coffees from someone but weren't sure if they were 12:15pm: Ordered our meal. 12:20 pm Got water after flagging someone down and asking 12:39pm: Breakfast served 12:40pm: Asked about our coffee. Had to clarify that it was indeed 4 coffees 12:42pm: coffee comes 12:49pm: Check left on table. So they are capable of doing some things fast. 12:51pm: So hungry we're done eating in 10 minutes. Asked if we want more coffee. Of course it's a "yes". I go to use the restroom. 12:54pm: return from restroom. Coffee is served but dishes have been whisked off the table including the spoons to stir the coffee. Im so ready for this dining "experience" to end. We finish our coffee. 1:03pm: Fresh air. Total time from sign up to walking out: 2.5 HOURS Pretty frustrating. The Food? Ok to pretty good but never ever worth an experience like that. I could usually get by at Boots & Kimo with their Eggs Benedict which I like. Should have stuck to the plan. I decided to try the "homemade" corned beef hash and eggs. Bland and boring. With each (fairly far between) visit, there seems to be a steady decline in one department or another. Could be my imagination but the $10 pancakes seem to have gotten smaller despite their being served on a smaller plate. The Mac sauce seemed watery too. Checkout the QC picture of the two orders of pancakes on our table. What's the commotion? The usual. Employee yelling a customer. They've realized that people will come no matter what they're served, how they're treated or how much they're charged. I guess that keeps the good spots from getting over crowded. That's a good thing.

We lucked out on our visit to Boots & Kimo's - a favorite when out of town guest visit - this time, no waiting and we eased right on in. As always though, the restaurant was bustling with locals and tourist. All the crew were very friendly while also having their "game face" on making sure orders were taken, food delivered and people were happy. My favorite here is the omelets which are huge, along with most dishes here (everything seemed huge). I love the Maui Wowie with jalapeno, onion, mushrooms, pepers and cheese that came with hash browns. I wish the omelet was cooked a little more firm but otherwise tasty and delicious. Everyone seemed to enjoy their choices including kalbi with eggs, eggs benedict, and seafood special omelet. Our table also ordered the famous mac nut pancakes -- again, huge and great for sharing! Great local spot with good vibe and friendly staff.

Step 1: Call Boots & Kimo during business hours Step 2: Order Mac Nut Pancakes TO-GO Step 3: Pick them up / pay Step 4: Sit at one of four tables outside and enjoy them Congratulations! You just avoided waiting up to 2 hours for a table AND enjoyed the best thing on their menu!

Came here because I am a huge Macadamia nut fan, and heard about their "famous" homemade Mac nut sauce they put on their pancakes. The wait was 45min on a Wednesday morning at 8:30, but was expecting that given the tourist season and from friends who have told me about their past experiences. I got their banana pancakes with the Mac nut sauce, and it was so good! The banana pancakes were soft and fluffy, and the Mac nut sauce was delicious and not overpowering. The rest of our meal, the ribs and the Portuguese sausage omelette, were just okay. Probably would only come back for their delicious pancakes.
(4)Collin M.
Total rip off. Rubber thin pancakes covered in a sauce you can find at any decent grocer. Most of breakfast menu is ala carte and a side of 2 eggs is $3.50. Their juices are the same size you put in your kids lunchbox. For a local place to serve you only 1 scoop of rice tells you this is for the tourists. Their Portuguese sausage plate comes with 3 pepperoni sized slices REALLY BOOTS? They'll sell you a smoothie not priced on menu for $8 WTF KIMO! CASH ONLY & THEY'RE LAUGHING ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK.

Let me start by saying I've been coming here for years now. You can see that by my original review in 2010. & I was a loyal customer WAYYY before i was an avid yelper. Over the years, like most places in kailua, this restaurant has changed so much. It no longer has that nice, treat you like family kind of feel. The wait has gotten so long and the worst part is i've never been quoted and accurate wait time. If its gonna be 2 hours tell me so i can go run some errands, grab a coffee, shop and come back. The last time I was here was the worst. We were quoted a 1 hour wait. We came back in an hour only to wait one more hour. By then (the time we thought we'd be done eating) Another one of my friends came to meet us. I wasn't going to have her sit outside while we ate so I asked if we could add a chair to our table. And order a few more things. Instead of politely saying no to my request I was yelled at and told, "if you make a reservation for 2 thats all you're gonna get. if you wanna change, you'll have to wait again" If it weren't for me being so embarrassed that I suggested this place to my friends I would have just walked out. Since they came all the way over here i decided not to let that ruin their morning and i just got our food to go so we could eat together on the beach. Its really sad that places like this take advantage of their local customers who have been supporting them for so long. Quick tip: Avoid the wait, the high prices, and the terrible service and go to Cinnamons. You won't be disappointed.

We had to see what the hype is about at Boots n Kimos since we were in the area! It's a small breakfast joint that gets packed the later you go. We went at 830 after a hike and checking out Lanikai beach and the place was pretty busy. They estimated about a 45 minute wait, but we got sat pretty quickly which was awesome. It's really unique in the place itself, with a lot of football gear and jerseys ( I'm guessing the owners a Denver Broncos fan. Even the ceiling was orange and blue which was pretty cool!) We ordered their Alfredo omelette, Loco moco, and their famous banana mac pancakes (short stacks are available if you can't finish a full order). Everything was DELICIOUS and met our expectations. The banana pancakes were not overly sweet but super flavorful and soft, almost to the point that it melts in your mouth. The waitress slightly messed up our order for the loco moco and we got one patty vs the usual order of 2, but it was still a good amount of food for us to share with the rest of our food. They recommended the shrimp Alfredo omelette (at first we didn't know what to expect), but it was really good as well, filled with a lot of shrimp, creamy cheese, and mushrooms. Overall, all the food had good flavor, but the banana pancakes were definitely the highlight of our breakfast. If you're in the area at Oahu, I really think Boots N Kimos is a MUST try. It's a good experience and you get to try some of the best food in town! Go in early, beat the crowd, and leave full and super happy!
(4)Diana I.
OMG what a miracle! My husband and I showed up around 8:30 AM on a Thursday and only had to wait for 5 minutes!! I was really dreading the 2 hour wait after reading other yelp reviews but dang we got LUCKY!!! Of course, we had to try the Banana Pancakes with their famous MACADAMIA NUT SAUCE. The pancakes were soft and fluffy, and the mac nut sauce was light and creamy without being overly sweet. I liked that they had crushed macadamia nuts on top to add some texture. Overall it was yummy but didn't blow my mind. I would definitely not wait over an hour just to try these. We also tried the Maui Original Portuguese Sausage Omelette with a side of hash browns which was decent, not amazing. But it's a good option if you want something savory. One thing I did like was they gave free refills on coffee! It seems like a lot of other restaurants in Oahu don't give free refills on beverages... Overhyped breakfast spot but if you're gonna be spending some time in Kailua (30 min away from Waikiki), then this is a good spot to try. After we had breakfast here, we went to the Lanikai Pillbox Hike a few minutes away and then to Kailua Beach. :) Parking: free in their private lot.

After years of seeing my friends post on Instagram of the mac nut pancakes, I get it. I so get it. The pancakes were so good! But what made it a winning combo for me is the ribs. What in heaven did they do to that short rib that made it so good?? Aged it? How? Ok, I don't care. The short ribs and the pancakes is a winning duo dishes for me. As for the wait, being that I am from out of state, I am willing to wait about an hour. There's a Roxy store across the street so I'd kill time over there.
(4)Hilary M.
No. Just, no. We tried Boots & Kimo's out because the lady who runs Helena's (in Honolulu) recommended it as a great breakfast place. She said the wait was long because busloads of Japanese tourists get dropped off right in front of here. She was right, it was absolutely packed! We waited a good 30 minutes to get seated. No big deal. But right before we were called the hostess called out for another group. Because they took .001 seconds too long to get to the podium, they were turned away. My husband was very bothered by this and went to talk to the main hostess who replied, "I can't help everybody!" I know he wanted to leave right then and there but we stayed. We should have left. We both ordered the short stack banana mac pancakes and a side of grilled potatoes. I got one of the "fresh" juices. The pancakes were so completely covered in the sauce you could hardly tell they were in there. $9 for two pancakes and too much stuff dumped on top. What really killed me was the grilled potatoes. Four SLICES for $3! Save your money and go to a place that's worth it. There's so much tourist hype here now that it was pretty disappointing overall.
(2)Trish D.
Banana pancake with macadamia nut sauce is a must at this place! Been here a few times over the past few years. It is drowning in the sauce & it is heavenly! Also tried the Puleho ribs, it reminds me of Filipino bbq flavor, so if youre into that taste, you will like it.

Best Advice I could give would be to Arrive at 6:45am.. We got here at 6:45am just before they opened at 7:00am. Doors open and Employees greeted with a smile. Sat down right away and ordered within 5 Minutes. They sat about 10 Parties and once. Keeping that in mind the food came within a reasonable amount of time. Food is always great here. Macadamia Nut Pancakes are a must. The Fried rice here is excellent too!! Every time my family and I visit the island, eating here is a must. Take my advice and arrive early. My first trip here, we arrived to Boots and Kimo's around 9:00am. Wait was about and hour and additional 35 minutes for food to arrive.
(5)Carina Q.
Good Hawaiian food! The pancakes and sausages are flipping phenomenal! Highly recommend if you want banana and macadamia nut pancakes. There's a big line, but it moves pretty quickly. The staff are nice and friendly. Pricing is a bit high, but most things are in Hawaii.
(4)No S.
One of my MUSTHAVE destinations when I go back to the islands. It's on the other side of honolulu - kailua side, but well worth the drive. GET THE MAC PANCAKES. i usually hate cream, and macadamia, but these pancakes are different. try them.
(5)Elise K.
Banana macadamia but pancakes were tasty but would have been better with more macadamia nut pieces on top for some textual difference. Maui Wowie omelette was well prepared but nothing to write home about. Friend got the eggs Benedict which she said was quite tasty. 3 of 4 dishes came out together and the last dish and additional pancake orders came out 15 min late. Other tables around us got their foods irregularly like us. I don't understand why they don't serve tables all together based on time of sitting. Would be better if they're more consistent with food expedition. Waited almost 1.5 hours and saw that some people made take out orders which took about 20 min. Next time won't wait that long so will place takeout orders of pancakes only.
(4)Jennifer W.
I don't usually like panckakes but these were so fluffy and soft, and the macademia nut sauce was so tasty. The wait can be a pain because there are so many tourists coming here (lots of Japanese) and it's a pretty small restaurant. There's a Target, Safeway, and some other shops right across the street to help pass the waiting time.
(4)Jeena L.
Folks hyped up the Mac nut pancakes here too much, call me a critic but it was just ok. I'm just glad we didn't wait the average time of 90 minutes to end up getting disappointed. We waited 30-45 minutes on a Wednesday afternoon. There's parking available and you don't have to worry about paying for meters. Service was swift, they're very efficient as they want to take your order as a whole versus putting in an order and coming back to get someone else's order at your table since they want to deliver at the same time. My fiancé ordered the corned beef omelette (apparently boots and kimos favorite) with hash browns and I got the original Mac nut pancakes. The pancakes are nothing out of the ordinary, it reminded me of ihops pancakes. It's just the cream that goes on top of the pancakes that people perhaps rave about. It was alright. I thought cinnamons pancakes were fluffier and better in my opinion. The corned beef omelette was nothing special either. The flavors were average and typical breakfast omelette. I think we could have spent less on what we ordered elsewhere that would have satisfied our hunger. Overall we didn't really think highly of the quality of food nor service. We did like all the sports memorabilia and wheaties boxes galore.
(2)Grace L.
This is definitely a go to place to bring visitors. Delicious fluffy mac nut pancakes and awesome omelets to balance out the sweet and savory (try the seafood or the paniolo). The servers are all nice, just super busy. Don't expect them to spend too much time chatting at your table but they do what they need to do to handle the mass of people so it works. My biggest warning is that the Japanese tourist busses now stop here so it's always an hour plus wait, if they will even seat you. Sucks for locals but great for their business. Try take out and eating outside, still yummy but no hassle and only about a 30 minute wait. Or just try the yummy crepe place down the street!

In all honesty, I've never heard of Boots & Kimo's Homestyle Kitchen until a friend from the mainland came to visit, and told me this was her absolute favorite place on the island for breakfast. I was skeptical at first because I also have friends from the mainland that say Zippy's is their favorite place to eat on the island. LOL Don't get me wrong, I like going to Zippy's occasionally, but it's not my #1 place to grab a bite to eat... Not by a long shot!! So before we went to Lanikai Beach, we decided to come to Boots & Kimo's for breakfast. We planned on meeting there at 10am on a weekday. I left my house in Mililani Mauka about an hour early expecting to run into some traffic, but it was pretty much smooth sailing all the way to Kailua. But I spoke too soon because there was traffic jam of Japanese tourists at the front door of Boots & Kimo's!! There were about 10 groups in front of me, which translated into about a 30-45 minute wait. I got there a little early, so I had some time to wait before my friend got there. When my friend finally arrived, we only had to wait another 5 minutes before we got seated. Talk about perfect timing!! We walked inside, got seated, and I noticed the owners of the place were big football fans... Okay, maybe "noticed" and "big" are a bit of an understatement!! LOL Every inch of this place is crammed full with all kinds of football memorabilia... Photos, helmets, jerseys, and Wheaties cereal boxes. They have NFL team themed tables, and even the ceiling is painted to match the royal blue and orange of the Denver Broncos. But you don't have to be a football fan to enjoy the food at Boots & Kimo's... I ordered the Corned Beef Hash, Eggs & Rice, as well as a short stack of their famous Macadamia Nut Pancakes. The Corned Beef Hash was good, nothing really stood out from this dish... But the Macadamia Nut Pancakes, on the other hand, were F@#%!NG AMAZING!! Fluffy buttery pancakes with a thick creamy macadamia nut sauce that's out of this world!! Possibly the best macadamia nut sauce on the island... At least it's the best of what I have tasted so far. This place is always super packed and busy, so I understand the longer than normal wait time for your food, but it wasn't unusually long. Overall, it was great eating experience... I'm definitely coming back for their Macadamia Nut Pancakes!!
(4)Lacey P.
The sauce really lives up to the hype. Not to sweet and is good on both pancakes and French toast. My husband got the steak. I told he should get the ribs, but he wanted steak. Afterward, he said " oh wait..j should have ribs!" Well duh! We waited an hour but for lucky that my 2yo was too hunger to wait so I got him something next door and be the time we for back it was only a 10 min wait. They don't give you a monitor, so you certainly walk around the area. Cash only!
(5)Apollo Y.
This place is good but not great. The staff is friendly and the environment is pretty cool with all the NFL team logos on the tables and memorabilia everywhere. We ordered a Mr. T waffle, short stack banana pancakes, and an onolicious fried rice omelette. The waffle and pancakes were super good but I think it was mostly because of their macadamia nut cream sauce. The omelette was ok but nothing spectacular...it says it's made with 3 1/2 eggs so I assumed that 1/2 egg would make it extra big, it was just a regular size omelette :( All in all this place is alright but make sure you bring cash because that's all they accept.

First off, I'm not a big yelp fan but what I witnessed today needs to be told. We get our names on the list at 0735, told 30 minutes. One party ahead of us. Japanese tour group rolls up (at least 20 deep) on the place led by some chick who looks like she just finished eating Boots & Kimo. She waddles in, waddles back a few minutes later and IMMEDIATELY takes groups in to be seated...this happens three more times. Now we are approaching an hour on the wait and I'm about lose my shit and they finally call us in. It's clear they DGAF about anything but those bus loads of Japanese tourists arriving all day long... Food was ok.

I have never waited so long in my life. People ordering take out got their food faster than grease lighting. The only way it seems to get in here quickly is to be Japanese...every other name is Japanese. Got here before 10 am and it's now almost 11am and we were quoted a 20 min wait. People put their names down and left came back and got seated before us. Fuck this place....if you wanna loose weight just put your name down and bake out in the sun and just get a tease of the smell of the food as the door opens and closes.

Prepare to wait at least 30 minutes for a table and that's just for 2 people. If you have a bigger party, you might have to wait even longer like an hour. But hey, if you're patient enough and able to hold your hunger for that long, you'll be rewarded with the best Macadamia Nut Pancake you've ever had in your life. My advice, hang in there!

Seafood Omelet was good. Banana pancakes with the Macadamia Nut Sauce was bomb! Go early! Otherwise, you'll have to wait a while just to get to the front door.

Food is mediocre at best, and the service is garbage. We ordered, they brought our food, then immediately brought our bill. They've become a tourist spot. They want people to come in and get out as quickly as possible. Sad. Their macadamia sauce is overrated in my opinion. Put melted macadamia nut ice cream on your pancakes at home and you'll have the same thing in a more pleasant setting.

Yes, those famous macadamia nut pancakes are awesome. The pancakes themselves are good, but it's the white creamy sauce that makes it stand out from the rest. Also tried their special galbee lunch plate and korean fried chicken, both with fried rice. The portions were good and the food was delicious. Service was quick and friendly. The only problem - the 1 hour wait! Yes the restaurant is small and very popular, particularly with tourists. It was about an hour drive from our hotel, so we pretty much waited for 2 hours to eat. Was it worth the wait? Yes and no. But it's definitely worth a try.

Absolutely amazing breakfast place which you should arrive early (like the moment it opens) unless you want to wait on a long queue. I ordered the banana pancakes with Kimo's macadamia nut sauce... which was AMAZING! It looks heavy at first but the moment you bite into it its so light and fluffy. This is a cash only joint, but they have an ATM onsite in case you forget.

I ordered to go, walked here while waiting for my table at Cinnamon's. The wait here looked crazy. The restaurant is decent sized. Football themed. Cash only! Macadamia Nut Pancakes - $9.99 - 2 big fluffy pancakes. I tasted macadamia in the pancake itself, so I wonder if they use macadamia flour. The sweet macadamia sauce was very tasty and sweet. Yummy nutty dessert taste. But for 10 bucks, kinda not worth it but I had to try it for the hype. I liked this more then Cinnamon's Guava Chiffon pancake. Good pancake, not worth the price though.

Must order anything with Mac sauce. My shoe would have tasted good with that sauce. We ordered the French Toast and waffles with fried rice and a side of sugar cured bacon. The one tip I could give is to get there early before they open. It's a tiny little corner joint. We arrived at 715am they open at 730am and their was already a line. Service was fast, food arrived hot. Although I wish my french toast had more mac nut sauce on top since my last slice of toast was dry. I didn't want to add any syrup. I want more mac nut sauce. Would definitely eat here again.

Waited the usual time of 45 minutes. The service was nice and quick. Ordered Steak meal - tasty and juicy Eggs Benedict - pretty good Macadamia nut pancakes - delicious and fluffy. The nut sauce was subtle sweet with the perfect amount of crushed nuts mixed in.

This is my second time here. I attempt to come on my last trip but it gets crazy busy! I agree, the macadamia nut pancake is pretty darn good. I didn't care for the other foods. Had eggs Benedict again and it's okay. Omelettes, spam, fried rice, Vienna sausage, corn beef hash, Portuguese sausage, chicken katsu, are a few things I saw on the menu- nothing special I heard anyone say it is to die for or recommended other then the pancake! Our food came out really late, I think they forgot to put in our order but the service is good, everyone was nice! Bring cash, come early- it's a tourist spot.
