Local dive bar that has live reggae music on the weekends. Cover charge is a crazy $10 on weekends, unless you know one of the bouncers who will "let you in." Definitely not worth a cover. The place is dirty and has a rough crowd. Lots of fights and drug use to be found there on the weekends. Cops were always there. It was put on the "do not go to" list with the military. It's so dirty that I would not recommend eating there. Be careful at night. Your car can be vandalized! Too many druggies hang around there in parking lot! Not a safe place. Boardriders is still the filthy, shabby crude dump that it has been for years. Bathrooms are toxic. Drugs and thugs abound. Brawls are the main entertainment.

This place is rotten to the core. The goo, slim covered tables are disgusting to say the least. It's like a homeless person slept on the table before you got to order your warm beer on tap. The service, what service! But, that's fine, considering it's best to wait longer for your incredible luke warm beverage. I'll never go back, unless they offered free $100 bills to taste the dry, hardened BBQ beef. Boardriders is like going to prison with live music. I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Here on a Sunday. The service is slow and bartender Carly is to busy being a chatty cathy to serve the 15 people in here. I sat and watched my coconut shrimp die in the window, if my boyfriend did not know the cook we would have proably never recieved them. Service is slow, the food is edible. At least the beer is cold.

I've been to Boardriders a few times, and more recently, I came here during a round of bar golf. There was a band playing music and most of the patrons were local. I tried to get a drink but the bar was super crowded and short me, couldn't flag down a waitress, so I bogeyed. :( Later that night (maybe 30 minutes or so), we returned to Boardriders in search for a missing wallet. The bouncer at the front said that there was a $5 cover fee, which we didn't have to pay earlier. Not sure when they charge cover fees so keep that in mind when you're planning to go there.

Dear Boardriders and Hog Island BBQ, After a long, grueling day and having sat a really long time in traffic on the Pali on the way home, I was looking forward to some of your mouthwatering barbecue. I was able to order and pay fairly quickly. Unfortunately, you were extremely short-staffed. Looked like one bartender taking care of everything in the front of the house, and one cook handling all the food in the back. Right after I placed my order, a bunch of people came in. They were probably just getting home, too, after the ridiculous traffic in the rain and construction on the Pali. Unfortunately, this seemed to overwhelm your skeleton crew. After waiting over half an hour for my order, I started to wonder if the food would ever be done. I literally couldn't ask the bartender about it, because there were so many patrons swarming the bar by that time. Instead, I asked the cook, who let me know by his nasty attitude that he did NOT appreciate my business. Guys, come on. If you're planning to operate two businesses here and do at least a decent job of it, you gotta work with us a little. After waiting 40 minutes, I gave up and left, having paid for food I never got. My rough day just got worse. Lesson learned. Do it to me once, shame on you. Do it to me twice, shame on me!

Probably one of the best dive bars in Oahu's Windward Side - located in Kailua. Weekend nights (Friday and Saturday - Some Sundays) will always have a live band lined up. Since it is a bar, noise is a bit extreme, but always a good time. No happy hours.
(4)Kody T.
Went here on a whim because I was in the area, and I really regret it. Service was super slow despite the place being nearly empty, which makes no sense. Food was mediocre, and honestly most of it looks like it came from a can or something. Would definitely not recommend this place to anyone.

I had a meeting after work at this bar. Honestly I had my doubts before checking it out, but was pleasantly surprised. Atmosphere: Laid back bar and plenty of seating. Surfboards strung up along the wall with TVs, a few arcade and table games set up in the corner. Not many people here on a Wednesday night. A teenage band was starting their practice session which lightened up the mood of the entire bar. Service: Good, attentive waitress took care of our table. She came around several times checking up on us. Food: I had a "baker's dozen" of their wings. They were quite tasty, I ordered the Guinness bbq and garlic local style wings. I heard their brisket was also a must try but was too full after my wings. If they have the brisket available make sure you try some. Intangibles: Looks like a place I would check out for game but not somewhere I would just go to for food and drinks.

The World Cup is in full swing. My wife and I usually don't like watching sports. For some reason, we only tend to watch olympic curling, The Final Four, and the World Cup. So when it's alternative sports season, we are looking for a place that is not full of soccer hooligans. Since nobody comes to this bar, it is the perfect place. Big screen TV's aplenty! A funny thing happened since our last visit. They upped their food game like 200% Their smoked meat products are no ka oi! I had a cuban sandwich, wife had a half rack of ribs. Beautiful and smokey. We also had straight up nachos. Usually you can tell how a place feels about itself when you order nachos. This place must have a lotta self love because the nachos were wonderful. Wife ordered a Moscow Mule served in a copper cup. Nice and refreshing. They also serve a "Molokai Mule" with pineapple juice. Waitress was shocked when the bar was overloaded with soccer fans during the Potrugal/US game. She worked double time and kept everyone happy. I have to admit that I became one of the soccer hooligans I was trying to avoid. Our table wound up group hugging the other table when US pulled ahead. But then, AAAAAHHH last minute tie score :( Can't wait to catch more games!

On a live music night, when it's busy, they should consider more staff! On a Friday night with live music and about half full in the restaurant they had only 2 servers on staff and even a water refill was hard to get! We ended up getting a pitcher of water eventually for our table and the food service was pretty slow as well. Still this bar has been around for years and is conveniently located in Kailua. Cover charges fro live music nights. Parking is easy. Friendly staff. Noise level is a bit extreme-even without the live music.

I think the night we went, it was slow... hence, three stars. Nice atmosphere for just kicking back. Some billiards around and one of those cool interactive game things you can play via Text Message with. It was a refreshing drive to Kailua side after being tired of barhopping in Waikiki and the University area. I just wish I wasn't the DD so I could've had more fun ;) Live music from time to time. I will definitely be back... and I sure will update!

I am confused! went to this place yesterday and was even thinking about using it for a work party , ordered food and it slow but I ordered a lot (pulled pork, birsket, ribs, scalloped potatoes, mac an cheese, had a vodka for $6 and Crema Pinot noir for 9$ (it had been opened for a while, more than a day or two, and while hadnt turned yet was already tasting off) the food was ok and I would have been in better mood and might not be dissatisfied except for two things 1. bathrooms are very dirty, I mean still bits of used toilet paper on floor and the urinal water was brown ??? 2. a older man in a party of 4 at the high top nearest to the bar kept saying Nigger over and over apropros of nothing in particular, not saying it to me, (Im not black or dark) and just having loud conversation but it was repeated at least 4 times with one sentence being clear "black comedians can get away with saying it" the bartender and the others in the bar seemed not to notice. all set to right a terrible review but then saw a review from a few months ago where a group was scolded by the barmaid for saying nigger!!! so when they try to do the right thing they get a bad review and when they dont do anything they get bad review ??? if the food was better, and if the bathroom was clean , maybe different but I have not been for years and now not planning on it fro a few more

the only reason to come to this place is to see a good band and eat some cheap veggie chili over rice. i really wanted to like it and gave it a number (10+) of tries, but every time the service has been utterly terrible! what makes it worse is that the employees are arrogant. we have left more than once after sitting down and not even being acknowledged in 10-15 minutes - and it was empty every time this happened. in fact, it's usually empty except 10 pm and later on a thursday or weekend, so you feel weird sitting in this large, spread-out, cold and dark room. the only redeeming qualities are one good waitress (from israel, i think), their veggie chili and the good reggae bands they draw.
(1)Mim L.
Beer was warm. "Briskit" was tough, dry and crappy cuts of beef. Baked beans were bitter. Service was marginal. Tables were dirty. Ick. Go somewhere else, even if you're just going for a beer.

Although, I'd love to give Boardriders more stars because I have had good experiences a couple of times here, the bad ones overshadow that. First, the bar is a little rundown. It's big, which makes it awkward when it's dead--which is more often than not. But, more time should be invested into fixing the place up a little. I've been there for a few talent shows. And I've gone in once or twice on a weeknight. There were literally three people there on a week night. I do go here on occasion, when I get really, really desperate and don't feel like driving into Honolulu. But I can count on half of one hand how many times that's been. Their food is decent. I've had their French fries and their quesadillas. And their quesadillas are delicious. It took awhile to get my food, though, which was a little odd considering this time there were about eight people in the joint. And I do believe we were the only ones who even ordered food. The waitress was also texting while I was waiting to order my drink at the bar. That was a little annoying. If you're looking for privacy and really want a drink, I would recommend Boardriders. Otherwise, I'd say save your money and go to Ruby Tuesdays or something. Same difference, faster and more efficient service.
(2)Nick K.
Board riders riders is amazing spot for good vibes. Owner is friendly & his crew the same. The Talent is also very entertaining, I definitely recommend you to check it out.

Nice, quaint, cozy, low light place. Great pūpūs, reasonably priced beers. 3 stars
(3)Brian B.
About six months ago this place upped the menu with a chef who really seems to care about serving great bbq and sides. However, what's the point of a great menu if you can't get served? I arrived there 5:30 PM on a Saturday with two families, not very busy, but it took us almost half an hour to get drinks, and then the waitress got off shift and forgot to put in our food order. How would you like to entertain kids for 90 minutes before the food arrives? Then tonight (Wednesday), we went in for another family dinner. Again, it took half an hour to get drinks, and the waitress never took our food order. We left after an hour. A restaurant that doesn't take food orders?
(1)Jake H.
I love to stop in to this place for a pint. Bartenders (except one) are great. They need the jukebox back. This and the creek are my favorite places. Chelsea is a helluva bartender and easy on the eyes. Food is good, bathrooms need some work.

TOTAL DIVE. Not that there's anything wrong with that. My niece likes to watch Diners Drive-ins and Dives so I took her to Boardriders which is apparently the new location of Hog Island BBQ hogislandbbq.com/Home_Pa… . hahahahaha. No sooner had I told the waitress that I wanted a beer then my niece jumped in with "and I'll have a Shirley Temple." She cracks me up since she's actually 23 and still orders Shirley Temples. The place smells like stale spilled beer and sweat. I think it's intentionally dark so you don't see stuff you wouldn't want to see. Basically you're eating in a mosh-pit set up with some tables and chairs. Waitress was pleasant but had to hunt her down to ask for basics like a knife and salt and pepper. She could have been a little more present. She seemed to be working the bar also. Music was OK for a while (at least my niece liked it) until they switched to some horrible metal that was way too loud. Onion rings ($7) were good but just served with ketchup. A house dipping sauce would have made them a lot better. My brisket plate with add-on of smoked chicken (about $15 with two sides) was good. Side of coleslaw was lightly dressed, (not creamy) and I liked it. Baked beans were surprisingly not sweet and very smoky. I like them. My niece's side of mac and cheese was not great, way to much mac and not enough cheese. Her carrots and broccoli was good. She had a half rack of ribs. We were served a pale dry smoked pork rib served with some tangy barbecue sauce on the side. They seemed a little undersmoked to me, and a little fatty. I would have liked them a little more cooked and the fat correspondingly a little more rendered. The bill came with a $2 overcharge for my added smoked chicken. When I pointed this out to the waitress she said something like "oh they forgot to change the menu" but she did credit me back the money. I really hate when the price on the check does not match the price on the menu. This sealed the deal on 3 stars instead of 4. Plus the tab including tax and tip for onion rings, one draft beer, one draft cider, one shirley temple, and two combo plates was over $60. So i kind of walked out thinking there were other places I would have rather spent that kind of money. If you're a connoisseur of barbecue maybe you should check it out and offer a more sophisticated critique of the barbecue than I can.

The other reviews are spot on about the waitresses and the level of service... We even spotted the one with the 'huge set of personality' LOL ordered the Moscow Mule since it was well reviewed but wtf $9 for a drink at a dive bar in Kailua? That's Waikiki on the beach price for a drink! Food was not good, but it wasn't bad either. Though the pizza looked like a cracker... Or a circular piece of cardboard. Stick to the $4-5 beers if you find yourself here.
(2)G J.
This is a great little local bar. The bloody Marys with the Slim Jim's in them are delicious. This is a great place to find other football fanatics but for the love of my failing eyesight, they need to get bigger TVs on which to see the games!!! Otherwise, I would have given it 4 out of 5 stars.
(3)Hanwook K.
Ordered the ribs. Tough as rock. Couldn't even cut it. The Mac and cheese came out congealed and cold. The BBQ sauce is tangy and not too sweet. argh. Yuk. The ribs were just bad. Really bad. Wings were super good. The service was good. I don't have much more to say ...

My new favorite NFL Sunday morning place. The restaurant has been renovated, with newer furniture, upgraded menu, friendly service, and flat screen televisions that feature all the sunday games. My favorite item is the eggs benedict with fresh salmon. Toasted english muffins, poached eggs, grilled salmon, covered with hollandaise sauce. Add sauteed spinach and tomatoes for some healthy veggies.

I live near boardriders and have been there a few times when I'm craving barbecue. I've never thought it was good barbecue, but sometimes better than nothing. I've been going a lot less often because every time it gets worse. Place is dingy and tables are often sticky. No decent beer on tap or bottle. Live music is WAY too loud, can't hear your friend sitting next to you, when the band is across the bar. And they suck. If they're not busy, customer service is okay, but if you have any problems with your order the servers seem very perturbed, like "what do you expect? You came to a dive bar with subpar food". On my most recent trip, my friend got chicken strips to-go that were like cardboard. He took them back and she said they were always like that, said he had to wait a long time for a new order because a large group just ordered and offered no refund, so he just threw them away and got Papa John's. Being a huge barbecue fan it makes me very sad that restaurants like this can stay open in Hawaii. But that is often the nature of Hawaii. I just gave them too many chances. If you MUST go here, the burger is probably the best thing on the menu.

TACO TUESDAY!!! $2 tacos! You can choose Kalua pork, chicken, or beef tacos. I've tried them all and they are all delicious! My experience there has fluctuated from crappy service to excellent service depending on the server. So don't expect much. In Kailua town on Hamakua Drive. Free parking is right around the corner after the building (Zia's). It's a dive bar, so casual. I've only gone in there after a work out, still sweating... It's dark in there and kind of dingy... Crowd is mixed, you got your local Kailuan to the military. Overall, pretty chill and laid back.
(3)Al-Imran K.
they got a lot of tvs nice loud atmosphere great for watching a game but they dont have hd quality for their games. im ok with that. they got a good selection of beers to choose from. ive never eaten anything besides fries here.
(3)Todd P.
Drinks are moderately priced, BBQ sauce is very good, brisket is good. Burgers are soso. It could probably use a pool table or something cool to play around on. There's a tall bartender there that is usually in a bad mood. But she's pretty. A nice blonde bartender with a HUGE set of personality. And a lot of good local music on the weekends including my favorite mike love.
(4)Abby D.
Decent enough dive bar. Food was pretty good. I would stick to bottled beer as the draft one I had was stale. Not sure if I got what was left in the line, or if there is/was an issue with the keg cooling system. This is the second place I have been to in Kailua where I have had the stale beer experience... maybe folks around here prefer bottled beer...
(2)William B.
Good food, but draft beer isn't cold enough and service is slow to say the least.
(2)HighStandard S.
Pulled pork, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, and BBQ sauce were all solid. Honest, fresh, and tasty. Stand-out was the mango dessert. The chef came out to give me a choice of ice cream or whipped cream. I went with the whipped, and it was made to order. Wonderful! Wasn't crazy about the quesadilla, but I haven't enjoyed any Mexican dish I've ordered at a restaurant in Hawaii. Friendly, civilized service. What's not to like!?!
(3)Kaiser M.
Love the place! Everyone that worked there was pretty friendly. Drinks are a bit small but they're made well. Bartenders are gorgeous and sweet. It didn't seem very busy the times I have gone but overall still a nice atmosphere and place.
(4)M M.
Went here on a weekend and had a good experience. We were there early (6pm) so the place was empty, which was good. We got good seats and the beers were never empty. As the night pressed on the place filed up, but the service was still good. They had live music, but that's was good too cause it wasn't super loud so you could still hold a convo. Food was typical bar food that was good, but not broke da mouth. I would not hesitate to eat and drink here again.
(4)Dustin R.
Boardriders has never really been my choice of bar to drink at in Kailua. Every time I've been service has been spotty and slow. I can't really say how good the food is because the one time I ordered food my waitress forgot to put my order in. I wouldn't necessarily tell you to avoid this place because maybe I've just had bad luck...but I don't see myself coming back.
(2)Woode W.
We stumbled on to this place mid day. What a gem on all fronts. People, service, friendly. They recently stared offering BBQ ribs, Memphis style. Best ribs I've had in a long time and I know ribs. Kelly Joe and Chelsea made us feel like we were right at home.
(5)Kat M.
Nice spot in Kailua to grab some after work wind down drinks with friends. Food is a little over priced for the portion size, but flavors were decent. Pizza was tasty, but that's hard to mess up. Note to all, I would recommend parking across the street in the Safeway parking lot. Lighting in parking lot is better. When we were there on a Friday night around 7pm, a patrons truck window was smashed and items were taken. This happened in Boardrider's parking lot WITH people outside watching it happen....hummmm!
(3)Seth D.
Meh. That about sums it up: Meh. Living in Kailua you don't have tooo many options you either can chose from: a) Dive bar w/ tons of military b) Pub w/ tons of military c) Outside seating w/ tons of military d) Bar w/ slow service and local heavy on certain nights(This is where Board Riders fits in) I would actually like to love this place because the atmosphere for the most part is very chill. But that ends up translating to the service and food. The waitresses are always Hit or Miss. You either get a smile and chipper attitude and quick to get you a refill or you get the sour faced she-devil who will literally serve every other person before giving you the light of day. I'm known as a HUGE tipper and on two occasions I've felt it necessary to leave a 1 cent tip. It pains me to do it but standing at the bar for 20 minutes when there are 10 other customers in the place just to get another pitcher of beer, Ridiculous. They do a decent enough job of offering different music throughout the week, but would it kill them to have something other than Reggae (And I grew up in the damn Caribbean mind you) on the weekends? The food is alright, but again, its summed up by Meh. Nothing bad, nothing great. If I don't feel like dealing with 100 Jarheads then I will end up going here, but with 50/50 service more often than not I will opt out go grab some beer from Safeway across the street and spare myself from another so-so bar.

Had the worst experience ever at a bar. Sitting at the bar with 4 other friends talking amongst each other and there was 5 other people in the bar so it was dead on a Tuesday night. Started out good until the bar tender Sam decided to make a spectacle of us by making a dam scene voicing her opinion loudly so the other 5 people in the bar could hear her. I didn't understand what the hell just happened cause it sounded like she was scolding us for being too loud when the music they had playing was louder. As she's walking away from us she still blabbering something at us and then starts talking trash about us to the other patrons at the bar. We were all confused for about 30 seconds and realized she was upset at us for using the word "nigga" in front of her...we were all talking to my boyfriend cause that's his nickname amongst his friends cause he's half black. We quiet down a little cause we all couldn't believe what the hell just happened. We were all super polite to her the entire time even after her little outburst. And she was insulting us and was just plain RUDE!! She wanted to apologize 20 mins later for rudely interrupting our friendly conversation between ourselves, and even when my boyfriend explained that was his nickname and that he's half black, she didn't care. That's when we all got upset and was just stunned. She was basically saying were were racially unaware and racis...the group with a white girl, white guys, Hispanic, kanak, and black/white guy... Yah real racis. HELLO!!! She totally ruined our night. If she can't handle people being loud, laughing, and having a good time them she should go work at a library! If anyone was being racially unaware and offensive it was her. If the manager is reading this as he should be...maybe that's why your bar is lacking customers. I worked in the service industry for years and put up with all kines of attitudes but I never treated a paying customer like crap! NEVER!!! We were gonna stay longer but she ruined it BIG TIME! I rather spend my hard earned money somewhere else. I was so pissed off and still pissed, thought about calling the manager but this is better...this way other paying customer can be aware. I would pick zero stars but one is the minimum to post my review That star can go to the cook cause he cooked up some good tacos...I'm glad I finished it before the drama. Cause she would have ruined my dinner too.

I live right down the road from this place and really wanted it to be better. We ordered a few different things, and all of them were really bad. 1. The Mozzarella cheese cheese sticks had no flavor, and the most of them were only half filled with cheese leaving an empty shell of flavorless crust. 2. The pupu steak was completely flavorless. We ordered the steak MR and it came out almost well done. 3. The garlic fries had potentially, but they were so oily it was hard to eat them. The service was good and they have TV's to watch the games.
(2)Aaron K.
Food: 2/5 Price: 2/5 Service: 3/5 Organization: 2/5 Layout: 2/5 Atmosphere: 2/5 To say much, it's not a bad place to go but not my first pick. I have had better but living in Kailua, I kind of want to see what my town has to offer. First time and most likely not the last but when the next time will be, that may depend on my mood and options available. Anyways, the food was ok. Menu is pretty simple and straight-forward. Best of all, they'll actually recommend certain beverages with the food you order on the menu. Ordered the Mahualu Fish Sandwich ($9.95) plus the salad (extra $2.50) with the guava vinegrette. The food is average for the most part. The fish was grilled and thankfully not dry. The bun was also lightly toasted so there was a nice crunch to it without it being burnt. The one thing I kinda wish they would learn how to use are sauces because that sandwich could have had a lot more flavor to it rather than just me adding ketchup to it. Then again, ketchup makes everything taste better. Haha. The food and price don't necessarily match up but I'm not about to sell this place short. The waitress was nice and decently attentive. Considering the fact I went on a Monday around 2pm, there were very few clients in there and thankfully she didn't hover around me. Very relaxed atmosphere. She actually handled the place pretty well from what I saw. The layout is minimal to say the least. Cement floor and kind of dark but for a bar and grill, I guess that's an ok angle to take it from. Don't know how it is at night but I heard there are live bands that perform during the evening. They also had a pool table! The atmosphere was relaxed. Had Hawaiian tunes playing in the background. Overall, I plan on going back if not to see about the other dishes but also to see when the best times to visit this restaurant are. I have had better but for what it has to offer, especially in Kailua, it was decent.
(2)Ramy M.
Not sure why the previous reviews were bad, I love Taco Tuesdays and they always have the best live music around. The bartenders are super friendly and the pours are stiff! I've always had a great meal and and great time everytime I've been! Definitely the best bar in Kailua!
(5)Maren B.
After finishing a nearby hike, we decided to stop in for some food and a beer before heading back to town. We got the Buffalo Shrimp, 3 Sliders, and garlic fries. None of it was great...it was down there with some of the worse bar food I've had...and the service was awkward. There were maybe 4 other people in the whole place, and granted it was 3 in the afternoon on a Wednesday, but I have a feeling this was pretty much the standard for Boardrider's. I'm definitely not opposed to a dive bar, so maybe this is better for the night crowd, but I would venture down the street and try something else unless I was drunk as hell on a Friday night.
(1)holland h.
top notch.
(5)Brittany N.
We ended up having a great time, but the place was a bit messed up. There were two pool tables--one of them didn't work at all when we put our money in and the second one was missing a ball and never returned the cue ball when you scratched. The bartender seemed to be not very cool at first as she was preoccupied with getting any and every guys' drink before she helped me and my female friend, but by the end of the night I ended up liking her and we had a great time there. They have beer pong set up in the middle of the bar, which is very rare and super cool (but we also do that at my bar too :] ) and they had video games...however they were all broken :[ They also had that punching game where it shows you how hard you punch, so that was fun too even though I KNOW it must have been lying when it told me I got a 5...haha :] All in all, it's a jankity little bar, but if you're with fun people and can roll with the punches (literally) then you're gonna have a great time there. Watch out for the hangover from their drink specials though ;]
(3)George N.
I really like the mason drinking cups..and the food was good...customer service a bit slow..had to go up to the bartender to place order...There were hardly nobody inside...
(3)Iris J.
Ain't much of a place, yet they do provide live entertainment that is worth heading out to the east side...
(3)Food Mongol M.
I love this place. Always hit it after this place after work for a few beers.
(5)brigette l.
WOW Charlie way to make some VAGUE first reviews... I am suprised I have not found yo uand bout you a shot. This place seems to be the cleanest dive in Kailua despite the fact there are no potties so you must go outside to the portapotties to go potty. I liked the music I liked the bartender, there is some food (I wouldn't eat it). Honestly I liked this place better when it was Jarons but for now this fills the void. Rock on Boardriders. There is no Belvedere but this seems to be an eastside trend. HOLLA.
(3)bobb n.
be careful here. the cute young sweet bartender was obviously double charging my (admittedly drunk) friend Marcus for drinks. disgusting. watch out! or better yet just avoid this place
(1)Sharon N.
My first bar! Also, where I met my current boyfriend. Haven't been back in a while, but from what I remember it was a good place to listen to some Hawaiian/Reggae music. The waitress we got was always the same one and always nice and very quick. The only problem is that there seems to be a LOT of underage girls at the bar ...

Be careful at night. Your car can be vandalized! Too many druggies hang around there in parking lot! Not a safe place. Food is good just do take out!

I have to say that I'm kinda suprised that there are several reviews higher than one star. I've been to Boardriders about 5 times... Food and prices are okay but the bottom line is Boardriders is a sketchy place with sketchy looking people inside. Never been there while a band was playing so I can't speak about that... but I have heard several stories about fights with locals and Marines.

As Kailua is transformed into Carmel or Monterey one place stands firm in the face of gentrification and sophistication. Boardriders is still the filthy, shabby crude dump that it has been for years. Bathrooms are toxic. Drugs and thugs abound. Brawls are the main entertainment. Service is flat out the worst I have ever encountered anywhere. Avoid this crap hole.

My wife and I are in our 60's. Boardriders is a block away from our condo. We go at least once a week. During the day it is a sports bar. During football season they are open for breakfast and have a great eggs benedict and fritatta. The barmaids are very cool, friendly and good looking. The chef has been there forever. It is a sports bar that is changing it's role into a good restaurant. We love the vegetarian pizza, but we turn in into non-vegetarian by adding Italian sausage or pulled pork. They have specials every day and a full bar and restaurant menu. Later at night, there is music, either live or DJ. It can get a little more rowdy and younger late night. If you are older, like us, go early...if you are young and rowdy, go later. I recommend it for sports lovers, pub grub lovers, and later in the evening, younger, party lovers.

Came here on a night they had live music. It was pretty empty and despite that, the service was lacking. Food was okay. We ordered a bunch of pupus to eat family style. Nothing really bad nor nothing really good about it. Probably wouldn't come again unless my friends want to go again.

It had cold beer. It was on sale. 3 stars!

Looking for a piece of ass? This is the place. The hot spot for people under the age of 40, live music more often than not.
