I cannot comment on the food much as I just had a couple of happy hour apps... Pork taco app was good. As others have said, the price reflects the size. If you order based on that, you will be fine. They taste good. Drinks were good and decently strong. View is fantastic. The kid and I were sitting by the fence while the wife and other kid were hitting the shops. In typically HI fashion, one minute I was worried about burning and the next it was raining. Always good times. :-)

Nice view at sunset but the ketchup on the table was rancid and my slider sampler platter tasted funky. The chicken one was dry and the burger was blah, the pork was edible. However it made me violently nauseous afterwards. Plenty of other choices skip this place unless you're just getting drinks while watching the sunset.

Three because of the Sunset view. The rest of the experience was a but under-whelming.

  • Frank K.

Terrific fish and chips. A little spendy but worth it for the view.

Great place for a sunset and drinks! This was another great Yelp find for us in Kona... We wanted to have some drinks and pupus while watching the sun set, and Kona Canoe Club met the mark. The Mai Tais were great and reasonably priced, and the slider trio was amazing (one each of burger, teri chicken, and kalua pig). The service was also excellent. All that said, the sunset here stole the show. The main thing keeping me from giving this place five stars was a slight fishy smell that was wafting in from the nearby boat pier. I don't know if the smell is normal or if the wind was blowing a certain way... That being said, the smell wasn't overpowering or anything, it just kept the place from being perfect. Would go back in a heartbeat.

The wife and I were looking for a quick mid-day bite to eat prior to dinner. We had been walking around Kona for a good portion of the day and hadn't eaten anything since breakfast. First time at the Canoe Club. Seat yourself patio dining. We naturally took the table next to the water. Luckily, it was Happy Hour! 2-5 pm. Not sure about the weekends but we went on a Tuesday. Was not busy at all. Waitress was with us within minutes of sitting down. Their Happy Hour prices were decent, especially for Kona. Had a $2.75 Coors Light and wifey had $3.95 margarita on the rocks, which was decent. The Happy Hour prices are cheaper than their normal menu, go figure. But for the sliders or tacos, you pay per item, unlike the menu where you get three or four. I got two of the Pork Sliders and a Bucket of Shrimp. Both, very good! The wife got the Teriyaki Tidbits. They were OK, just a bit dry. The sauce definitely made the difference. So, if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere that isn't super busy during the weekday, check out the Canoe Club during Happy Hour.

Good location with average food at a typical Island price.

You have to try their calamari strips when u get here. They are amazing! Very tender and yummy. I had the jobs burger. It was okay. I had much better burgers before. They do have a great view of the bay and if u r lucky, little green lizards do come to visit the tables a lot.

Reasonably priced food but the drinks are overpriced - $6.45 for a locally brewed beer and $3.25 for a club soda - yeah, THREE TWENTY FIVE for a club soda! Fantastic view!

  • Daniel A.

Ate here a few time. Diff on the list to go back to. Ordered a limen aid an for some reason it was really good tasted fresh kinda made my meal. And the fish and chips were really tasty also could have been cooked a Lil less but still good.

I was very disappointed with the Kona Canoe Club. The view was the only thing that was good. I have to eat gluten free, so I needed to ask questions. The waitress acted like she was so extremely busy that she didn't have time to help me. She would come back, I'd ask a question, she'd provide a quick, curt answer and then run away. It wasn't even busy in there. I should have took this as a cue and left immediately, but I made a huge mistake and didn't. I tried to pick something I could eat, but I ended up getting sick. Waitstaff need to better understand food allergies and intolerances. I'm not eating gluten free for some fad or for the heck of it. I get seriously sick if I have gluten. Gluten is not just in bread and pasta. It can be in bbq sauce, salad dressing, sour cream, the list goes on and on. It's hard to eat out when on vacation and rely on others for your health, waitstaff need to be more sensitive to this.

The stars are for the food, which was so so. Now the real complaint? The service. I have noticed this is not restricted to the Canoe Club, but is somewhat rampant around Kona - especially along Alii restaurants. It's the "I'm so special and hawt" thing the waitressses glom onto in these establishments. Look, ladies, yes it's fun and cool to be young and waiting on people in hot pants in the various restaurants along Alii. Yes, we're so impressed with your Chinese character or honu tattoos and lip/eyebrow piercings. Yes, we get that you think the entire island wants to know you and be aware of where you're partying tonight. But seriously, let's take a step back and look at reality. You're bringing food and drinks to tables. Chances are that Francis Ford Coppola is not at one of them, ready to offer you a role in the latest Godfather remake. You are simply not that special. So please drop the 'tude, stop yakking with your friends at the bar while ignoring your customers, or consider the people who pay your salary to be a huge pain in the ass because they are harshing your pose. Grow up and realize you are a relatively small cog in the wheel of commerce on the island. Just do your job with a degree of professionality and respect, that's all we ask. Most of us already have a mate, we are not slobbering over getting our phone numbers to you at checkout. For reals.

The waitress was an a-hole. She was completely disrespectful and refused to even listen to our menu inquiries. She only came to our table to throw the food down and walk away. The food was bad: pulled pork sandwich, fish, and burgers all tasted below par--considering the price. It put a damper on our vacation. Try the other places around the island, don't go here. It sucks.

The location and view are great. Nothing else is spectacular. In general, I'm hesitant to review a place where I only have one item. But the french dip at this place was so, so, so, bad I feel I have a duty to caution people. Tough beef on a soft soggy bun dipped in brown water. My dinner mate said the burger wasn't that good either. The service was pleasant and efficient.

  • Andrew B.

Kona Canoe Club was just OK on the spectrum of fine dining in Hawaii. The location atmosphere are great since it is right on the water. I selected the Kona cheeseburger over the calamari sandwich which might have been where I went wrong. The cheeseburger was marinated in teriyaki sauce with pineapple, american cheese, and other garnishes. I have had much better on the mainland. The coleslaw on the side was not spectacular either. I had a fantastic banana flavored mai tai and also had a satisfying mocha flavored ice cream "mud pie" for dessert. The service was great.

What can I say about the Kona Canoe Club??? It's the BEST PLACE TO EAT IN HAWAII!! Not sure if that's strong enough. Ok, so Hawaii has a lot of great places to eat and I'm sure there are places that I didn't try, but WOW..if you're ever in Kona, go here and try the MahiMahi Fish Tacos! The BEST fish tacos I ever had. They come with a side of Mexican rice and that's also fantasic. My boyfriend had the ahi tuna sandwich and he couldn't say enough about how great it was. The MaiTais are second to none! Let's just say they don't "cheap out" on the liquor like most places. Good thing we were staying on a cruise ship and didn't have to drive! They put the baseball game on from our home town for us and were so nice and accommodating! Try this place..you won't regret it or forget it, trust me!

  • Joe T.

EXCELLENT location! Burger was meh, ok. Fries tasted like frozen, re-heated. I recommend happy hour. $5 mai-tai's were pretty good. I'd go back, for only happy hour.

  • Lindsay D.

First off, location location location. A great view of the ocean, sunset, etc. After several gut busting meals elsewhere, my husband and I were looking for lighter fare. The salads provided were HUGE but also delicious. I loved that my wedge salad came with everything on the side so I could make it a bit smaller. I would have liked a special cocktail menu, but my cocktail was still delicious. Service was friendly without being overbearing, and definitely attentive.

  • Peter S.

This place as a really nice view and a cool breeze. The food is also very good. We tried the calamari burger, breakfast burger, chicken club, and the fish/pork tacos and all were very good and delicious. The sides that came with the food were small in portion and so so in taste. The price is what you would is expect at a touristy area, so a bit high.

How happy were we to find this sea-view restaurant tucked away in a tourist shopping center on the coast of Kona?! THIS happy!! Over our weeklong stay, we must have come here at least three of the nights to watch the amazing sunset, the waves crashing against the lava rock wall right out front. Their happy hour everyday from 4-7PM didn't hurt either... Best Mai Tai I've ever had...and the strongest...for under $5. The sliders, and fish tacos are two of the stand-outs for me. But I honestly think you could order almost anything and be safe. Their macaroni salad is one of the best. If you're visiting the Kona side of The Big Island, don't miss the Kona Canoe Club! The servers are like personal tour guides, letting you know about the best beaches, drinks, and menu items. This place was the epitome of the aloha spirit for us. (The mai tais helped too.)

    (5)
  • Greg H.

Meh. Not bad, not great. We did see dolphins in the bay though.

    (3)
  • Julie S.

Food was good. But paying $2 extra for fries with a $12 burger was a joke. AND it was maybe 5 steak fries...not worth the extra cash

    (4)
  • Annabel T.

Great location, great service from Greg and terrific food. Would recommend this place

  • ALEXANDRA L.

This was a surprise. We stopped because we were hot and tired and just wanted a break and cold drink. We sat ourselves, had a great view (would have been better without the cruise ship, but oh well). We ordered the pig tacos and they were ever so tasty. There was a special spicy smoky sauce that came with it mmm. We didn't try anything else but the pina colada and lavaman red ale, which both hit the spot. Anyway, for a surprise stop, this did the trick for us. Ambiance is marine themed.

    (4)
  • Mike S.

Maybe it was because I just wasn't hungry but I didn't experience anything special about this place. They forgot part of our order and by the time it had been delivered I was extra full and couldn't eat it. The "salad" appears (my wife ate it) to be an entire head of lettuce topped with almost an entire cucumber and tomato, the pork was great but their BBQ sauce was just Meh, and our server clearly didn't want to be there. The only positive... EXCELLENT VIEWS!

    (2)
  • Debra S.

We had dinner there last night and the ambiance was exquisite with the ocean and the most beautiful property to walk about. Waterfalls, outdoor lighting and landscaping to knock your socks off. The food and the service was over the top. I'm writing this not just to share but to make sure it is on my Favorites for our next trip.

  • Margaret N.

Nice place to stop in for a mid day smack and a glass of wine. Prices good, service good. If you don't like geckos, don't stop as our waitress was feeding them Marciano cherries in the railing!

  • Zack T.

Great place to sit and watch the sunset. Reasonably priced drinks and food. I had the local Ono special. It was grilled to perfection and flush with flavor.

The Restaurant is located directly in the Kona Inn Shopping Village on the Water so we shopped until our reservation time no driving around looking for parking . We learned to simply park at the open air market a couple of blocks away and everything is centrally located from then on. The View The View The View OMG should I say it again but the View is spectacular right on the water our table was within feet of the water we were elevated so no worries about getting wet or so we thought . We had a perfect table for 6 right on the covered deck thank god for the covered deck our timing was perfect we watched the sunset as we enjoyed a shrimp bucket The Shrimp Bucket was perfect they need to give more sauce and lemons with it $9.95 . I had a Blue Hawaiian omg the Blue Hawaiian was a knock your socks off strong drink what are drinks like that called pantie droppers 1 was enough at $7.95 back to island beer. Others drank wine again and it was Sutter white Zin I almost screamed we are on the island go local but sat quietly drinking my pantie dropper.. We ordered dinner and it started to sprinkle then to really rain we simply moved our table over some and continued on I noticed a few table in utter panic and a few just like ours its Hawaii its 80 degrees out so whats a little rain and we are not the melting type actually it just added to the beauty . So 6 of us again I think the rain inspired a couple of people to have the bowls of chowder which I thought were small bowls not much larger that a cup just a different shape . I'm not a big eater and I would have wanted more to eat ..This I did not taste since I didn't want to lower their portions any more then they already were . $5.95 for a bowl My Dad ordered a Cesar salad with Creamy Blue cheese dressing which in my book means it is no longer a Cesar but he seemed to think it was good I thought it was just OK. $5.95 I think my father thought he was getting a dinner Cesar not a side since he is a big eater but no worries I order enough to share . My Mom had a Chicken salad , I'm not really into chicken in Hawaii but this was intriguing and very tasty and a large portion . DICED CHICKEN BREAST WITH COCONUT, SOUR CREAM, & BLACK BEANS, SHREDDED LETTUCE, CHICKEN, OLIVES, CHUTNEY, GINGER AND CURRY SPICES AVOCADO, GREEN ONION, CHEESE, SOUR CREAM, IN A HALF OF FRESH PAPAYA ALL ON A BED OF GREENS. $11.95 The Star Of Dinner was ******************* The Fish and Chips *********** Now we had the Fish and Chips Made from Mahi and to me they were the best we had on the Island sorry Quinn's Fans they were served with steak fries very nice ones at that and home made tarter sauce. **************************************************************************** I had the Mahi Fish Tacos served with Black beans and rice you get 3 tacos see I did have lots to share I ate 1 and gave away 2 , They were good not the best but good . $12.95 So by far eat The Mahi Fish and Chips and the Drinks are stiff you defiantly get your moneys worth of alcohol. If you not a fish eater have my Moms Chicken salad it really has the island flavor .. Our Server was Pinky we had good service but nothing memorable . So for 6 to eat it was $108. and granted 3 ordered very light .

Came here on a whim and had a very nice meal. Had whatever the local catch was that day and it was very good! They make pretty stong mai tai's...they are good but watch out! :) The view is outstanding and the service was good.

  • Cindy L.

Great location on the water with great service. The menu is very pedestrian, bar oriented food (burgers and sandwiches) but the view and location are great and the prices aren't too bad considering where you are. Their menu is online if you search for it. They are part of the Wind and Sea Restaurants group and have a website if you want to look at the menu before going. I'd go back again.

Ideal atmoshere to watch the sun set over the ocean. Calamari was out of this world! Best Chicken Parmesean my husband ever had, and he's particular! Good prices for great food.

  • Joey N.

i loved the calamari the lady didn't -it was a flat peice of squid breaded and fried.. works for me =) the blt with an egg (yes i said egg try it on burgers heck any sandwich) was awesome.

  • Dan A.

Just had lunch here....French dip for me, a bit to the small side, with macaroni salad side that was tasty. Interesting to me was fries were 1.95 more as an option...i thought those go hand in hand. Chicken salad is huge, lots of chicken, very tasty. Drinks.....EXCELLENT. Bahama Mama and Lime Daiquiri....spot on flavors and 8.95 is a kona bargain. Service is fast but not terribly friendly. Fourth star is location and venue. Open building space, waterfront, comfortable and we'll appointed. Could have sat a while longer!

    (4)
  • Christine L.

Early dinner and amazing views! Casual. Clam chowder was hot. I ordered seared ahi which was soon fresh on top of a chef salad. The poppy seed dressing on the side was perfect. I missed happy hour and it looked like a bargain. Food is probably 3.5 stars but it gets a 0.5 bump due to the location and the nice waitress.

  • Bill C.

As others have mentioned, this place has a great view of the ocean. Wifey and I were going for a nice stroll along through Kona and we decided to get a couple drinks at the Kona Canoe Club. The bartender was on the far side of the bar talking to some other customers but she saw us after a few minutes and made her way over to us. There really wasn't and friendly greeting, more of a "What do you want?" attitude. Well, we placed our drink orders, she made them and then went back to talking to the other bar patrons. Ok, fine, no worries. The drinks were fine and the view was good. Only after the other patrons left and we were finishing our drinks did she ever come back to check on us. Yeah, we were kind of done by then. Will we be back? Maybe. It seems like a decent place.

I give this place a 4.5 star for their excellent quality in their Fish menu, they serve real fresh catches. I know my fish so take it from me. Some restaurant claim to serve fresh fish but of course anyone can tell if a fish was previously frozen. For anyone out there that is looking to have the best cook Ono, Ahi, or Mahai, this is the place to go. They do have a varieties of other items on their menu but I come to this place specifically for their one and only "Grilled Ono" I must say that out of all restaurants I've been to, this place prepared me the best grilled Ono. Occasionally, may not have Ono but don't worry they cooked any other fresh catches perfectly. Consistently the taste always perfect. The chef of this place knows exactly what he does, perfection. I tried fresh fish from the following places, but nothing compare: Fish Hopper, Hugo's, king kam honu restaurant, Roy's, Hapuna Prince, and other more. Staff are friendly, professional, and very attentive. Setting is relaxing with ocean and sunset view which is amazing. Great for family as well.

  • Sherri W.

Please do yourself a favor and skip this horrible restaurant despite its ocean front location because that is ALL it has to offer. I had the Chinese chicken salad and it was terribly disappointing in every way. Lettuce was Iceberg from a bag, chicken breast was finely chopped and if such small quantity I doubt I got more than 2-3 ozs of meat. Tangerine slices, sesame sticks and sliced almonds were all from cans or bags. NOTHING whatsoever special about this food. Everything in my salad was bland and the same color. My sister had a BLT which I could have done better at home. The whole experience was disappointing in every way from this CA restaurant chain. Take that kind of lack of service and presentation back to SoCal, if you can get away with it there; but please don't shame HI with your meager, ugly food.

  • Maria S.

Quick stop for happy hour but I'll be back for dinner. Excellent calamari, refreshing margarita and we really enjoyed the bucket of 21 shrimp... Small but tasty. Great views and vibe.

    (4)
  • Chris J.

Amazing location! We were able to walk in at super time and grab a table along the water to watch the sunset. Of course that should have been our clue this wasn't the place to eat at. Food was fairly bland and certainly nothing special. Wait staff was friendly however. It's a good spot to grab a drink along the water but I wouldn't recommend their food.

  • Paulette M.

By far my favorite restaurant in Kona! Went two times. Once for puu puus and next for dinner. Both times were great! Calamari puu puu is a steak the is cut into strips! Yummmmm. Shrimp basket was very sweet and seemed endless!! And the mai tais! Strong and tasty! The second time I got the blackened Ahi. Cooked to perfection! Absolutely amazing! Thank You for the memory! The view was the best for sunsets (besides the balcony of our hotel) and the waitresses were very accommodating! Prices were reasonable too!!

    (5)
  • James B.

We did not try the food as we came in for their happy hour. If your looking for one of the strongest mai tai's ever this is the place and the beautiful view of the sea is a bonus. We waltz out very very happy and giggling all the way.

    (5)
  • Jessica M.

The only reason I have this place any stars was for the location. Right on the water in beautiful kona town. The menu was pretty basic. Sandwiches, burgers, fish and pupus. I got the French dip. It was very blah. And you pay extra for fries. So my plate was like $17 for a French dip. My boyfriend got fish and chips....you would think it would be good being we are on the water. Asked the waitress what kind of fish....she said ono. Well it wasn't. These were clearly frozen store bought fish fillets. And over cooked at that! Clam chowder was cold and tasteless. This place sucks. Save your money....there's plenty of good places to eat inn kona....this is not one of them.

  • JD L.

Great quick service. D Happy hour streets at 2:00 to 5:00pm daily. Amazing view of the ocean. You are out I the sun in a covered patio. The ocean breeze is great to cool down. The have lots of seating as well.

    (5)
  • Cindy B.

I'm giving it two stars because the service was great and the view amazing. The food I would give zero stars. The fish and chips was truly disgusting. No seasoning. A ton of over fried bland batter. Next time I'll just have a drink and enjoy the view and find somewhere else to eat.

    (2)
  • Savannah R.

Only came here for happy hour.. was not disappointed! Great prices, great drinks, great location, great view, great customer service. Their mai tais were the best ones we had during our whole big island vacation!

  • Dutch M.

Great place to enjoy some delicious (not to mention strong and cheap) cocktails with delicious burgers while you watch the sun set over the Pacific. Several local Hawaiian dishes also. Our server, Lennie, was super charming and she was very on top of service.

    (5)
  • Tina B.

If you think you have tasted the best calamari steaks-come here! They are like butter, huge and just simply the very best. I see others having hamburgers, sandwiches, salads...but all you need is this to make bliss happen!

  • Carolyn A.

The highlight of the meal was chatting with Nikki and Kathy, the waitresses. The fresh fish (spearfish) was good. Someone forgot to dry off the lettuce in my salad, which was unfortunate and made worse with soggy croutons. The Caesar dressing was boring and bland. The fish in the fish&chips was ok, but the fries were straight out of a Sysco bag (via the deep fat fryer). The tartar sauce was tasteless -- how do they do that?! The drinks were on par with the rest of the meal. The good news for others could be that the place was empty, no lines, and plenty of room for groups.

    (2)
  • Jim M.

Dinner with wife. Sunset spectacular. Server was not very friendly. Drinks were good, but a bit on the pricy side. I had fish tacos, my wife had chicken skewers and mini tacos. Both dinners were good, but nothing to write home about.

    (3)
  • Chris V.

Nice view, good service, lame food. Bland booring menu appears to cater to midwest tourists accustomed to Denny's and waffle house. If that is your idea of good food then this might be a place for you. I would personally rather eat gas station poke or supermarket Benton box cause it would have more flavor. Why is there no good food in Kona?

When I went to Kailua I knew I wanted to find a nice bar to talk to locals and get the real Kona experience. I certainly found that at KCC. I took a day to myself to do some shopping and saw KCC. It looked super relaxed and welcoming. The outside seating gives a magnificent view of the marina. The downside was that the bar itself doesn't face the ocean. You can easily order cocktails from a table, but for a quick drink the bar makes more sense. I asked the bartender for a recommendation and she showed me the Fruit Daiquiri. You get a choice of flavors: strawberry, banana or pineapple. When I asked which one she thought was best she told me she liked to have all three. Being on vacation, I decided to go for it. The mix of flavors was so tasty and refreshing and the presentation was flawless. It was garnished with a slice of pineapple as well as a purple flower resting on top of the pink smoothie-like drink. Couldn't have asked for a better drink. I was still able to order food at the bar. I got an awesome cheeseburger. Nothing too crazy. Just a classic burger. Can't go wrong. They had an extensive list of other kinds of unique burgers. The rest of the menu looked fantastic as well. I went back on my last night in Kona to enjoy a couple more drinks. This time I sat at a table and the view was even more magnificent at night. They light tiki torches and you can see all the lights of the marina reflecting off the water. So relaxing. Check out the KCC while you visit Kailua-Kona!

Happy hour awesomeness! Great mini nachos, teryaki bites, sliders, mai tais and ritas by the water. Our waitress Cathy is so cool and turned us on to nachos with chips on the side. Dip the chip into the tasty goodness! Here from Austin and they gave us a great experience. Try happy hour from 2pm - 5 pm.

    (5)
  • Erik G.

Food was ok. Fish was good, seasoned well. Clam chowder was watery and the celery was too much. The Caesar salad was more like a creamy Italian. The service was good. Friendly, prompt with drinks and pleasant. Kids enjoyed their burgers.

    (3)
  • Carrie A.

Great service, great ambiance, and killer mai tais! The nachos were all that you'd want for happy hour.

    (4)
  • Amy M.

Food was just ok- felt like it lacked that little extra touch to make it really memorable. Happy hour prices are the best but only go until 5pm. Mai tai is strong- I think it was made with dark rum. I did not enjoy it. Our waitress seemed very stressed and was NONE too happy when we asked our bill to be split. Customer service was not her strength!!

Kona Canoe Club has been one of our favorites for the the last few years. Great outdoor seating right on the water. This is owned by the same company that runs the Kona Inn so the menu has a few similar items. I think the pricing is a little better and it's a more relaxed atmosphere. I typically do not like fish except sushi, but the fresh catch sandwich here is amazing. A generous serving of local caught fish (could easily be served on a plate instead with a few veggies and charge $35+) on a very nice roll, house made tartar (I also usually hate tartar sauce), and choice of side like potato salad. The fresh catch was local short nose spearfish on two days and it was some of the best food we had on this trip. Market price was $15-17 and worth every penny.

Delicious food, really nice servers, great vibe and beautiful view! We stayed at a luxury resort and paid exorbitant amounts for dinner there...and yet this was our best meal on the island!

  • Bruce S.

The Kona canoe club is a short stroll from the cruise ship terminal. The view was the best part of the restaurant was the view and the nice breeze. The service was good and fast. The food and prices are what you would expect for a tourist place in kona. Fish and chips was above average. It was a very nice way to relax after our tour. Happy hours prices (2 - 5) would have helped a lot but all in all it was good value. Worth the walk.

    (4)
  • Jamie W.

The food is very bland. No flavor. Everything is bought from the store and heated and put together. The waitress got our order wrong TWICE. Do not let the location fool you. Definitely go to a different restaurant in the area. Piss poor food.

  • Rob K.

In here for happy hour (2-5 pm), so place is 70% full. The drink specials are good, coors light small pint $3. Margarita $4, but too sour. Mai Tai tasted like cough syrup. Food was good. Slider with Kalua Pork is really the only great thing here . Biggest problem was our dead beat waitress. Not that she was bitchy or anything, just no personality at all. Zombie-like, just going through motion of serving you with one word answers. Quite rude. Noticed other waitress are friendly and smiling, so it's worth checking this place out as long as you don't get this waitress. Think her name is Courtney.

They have a good variety of food all good, but not great. We've had burger, peel & eat shrimp, nachos & fish tacos. Great drink selection with many frozen & tropical specifies. Outdoor seating with great view & friendly & attentive staff.

I had Ceasar salad with Ono. Fish was excellent but Ceasar salad very wet. Potato skin appetizers not the best I've tasted so only a fair rating. Two people had calamari and thought it was too breaded and fish dry. Husband had fish tacos and loved them. Ceasar wrap got a thumbs up from another person in our party. Service was excellent.

First night in Kona we went to the Kona Inn on a friends recommendation. It was very nice. Also very pricey. After our drinks & snacks we wandered around & I found the Canoe Club. Next night we came here. Wonderful waterfront location. Good HH prices on drinks & pupus. The exact same calamari is served here that is served at the Kona Inn. I do think the Mai Tai at the Kona Inn may be a touch better but not $4 better. The peel & eat shrimp were very good. Nice size portion. Mini Tacos were ridiculously small.

Three point five stars. We went at happy hour. The waitress tried to upsell us the regular menu but we stayed with the happy hour one. GF had a margarita and I had a Mai tai. We shared a plate of nachos. Her drink was sweet but good. Mia Tai was STRONG. good tho! Nachos were plentiful and tasty. Nothing special. But it was nachos. Great view and attentive service. I just can't give it 4 stars. On that note. We'd probably go back.

This was the worst meal and experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The service was apathetic and the food was embarrassing. The one star is for the beautiful ocean location.

Great great drinks for low prices. One of the better lava flows we had on the island. The happy hour prices are perfect. The calamari strips and chicken skewers were tasty. Great views as well.

Great happy hour! Loved the food, drinks and service. If you are looking for a beautiful place to enjoy an excellent meal, this is it!!

Stopped in twice during happy hour for what has to be the strongest Mai Tais in Kona. Great view and great service. Didn't really eat here, unless you count the flower and pineapple in our drink! Nibbled on some chicken skewers my daughter ordered, but that was it. Great location to watch outrigger races, the bay, or the sun disappear for the night

Great spot for drinks. We didn't try the food. I had the best Mai Tai here to any other spot during my trip. They used real juices and didn't add any artificial ingredients (e.g. sweet and sour mix). Also really cool to sit on the patio right on the ocean. You can hear the waves crashing on the rocks. Lastly, they have a great happy hour menu.

Happy Hour menu items were delicious especially the Kalua Pork Tacos... and the Mai Tais were quite good and a deal at $5. Perched on the open air deck that's perched right above the shore you'll be in no particular hurry to ask for the check. With the right timing you might even sneak a peak at some performers doing their polynesian magic on a not too distant stretch of Kona's beach. Service was prompt and attentive. If you're up for an early supper (Happy Hour runs to 5pm) it's a perfect spot.

Showed up a little after 2pm on a Saturday. Moderately busy, but a section was closed off, so we were forced to sit oceanside which was all open. Would've been fine except for the freak winds that were happening. Unusually windy, I was a little cold and had to put my hair up in not only a pony but a bun. Wish we could sat elsewhere. Service was ok, nothing to write home about, but no complaints. Ordered a mixed green salad, caesar salad, calamari and bucket of shrimp. Salads were actually a pretty decent size. Calamari was tasty but a small portion (please sir, can I have more?). Peel and eat bucket of shrimp was worth the price. When the bill came, it was the best kind of surprise. It was actually happy hour (2-5) & the calamari and shrimp were discounted (yes!). Money well spent.

I have eaten here during my last two trips to Kona. I really enjoy sitting on the water and enjoying a Fire Rock and seafood entrée. They have a good selection of beers on draft and the food is good and at a good price point. The fish sandwich, Cajun style, is really, really good. It is so good it is worth having more than once while in Kona. The reason why I do not go back a second time on my trips is the service. I have been to this place twice and both times my party was ignored by the wait staff upon arrival after they saw us. Being ignored really ticks me off; do you want my money or not?. When I have been there 4/5 of the restaurant was empty. Maybe they made enough tips for the day...Maybe I am just spoiled living in Las Vegas where you usually do not have to wait a long time to at least put your name on a list or be acknowledged, and you hardly have to wait for a table unless it is Saturday night on the strip, but I really cannot stand being ignored by wait staff when they are standing around talking to one another. This has happened both times I have been to this restaurant. Maybe it is just the slow Hawaii pace? Well, if that is the case, at least say aloha and acknowledge my presence.

Had dinner there our first night in Kailua Kona. The waitress was very nice and attentive, took out orders and had our food to us in no time. I had the kaluha pig sandwich, and it was pretty tasty, even with the canned pineapple slices on top. My Guyana's had the calamari sandwich and said it was good, flavorful and tender. Of course the view is wonderful, right on the water.

The fish and chips were on point. I have had cod, snapper, halibut as options for my fish. KCC serves Mahi Mahi and I think this was the best F&C I have had.

Super cheap happy hour. Beautiful view and ambiance of Kona Harbor. The Kona Tuna Melt was sad. I love, love, love tuna melts; however, too much mayo and too much cheese. It was a waste of the albacore tuna, which was drowned with mayo. Still recommend drinks and bucket of shrimp for happy hour.

I had a wedding rehearsal dinner here with my family from California. The restaurant offered good service and ok food. We had a set menu that included calamari, shimp bucket, and offered the option for three entrees Ono, Ribs and Pasta. I was a little disappointing with how they set up the tables; they placed us as far away from the water as possible. C'om we had more than 40 people and a nice size tab, give us at least some oceanfront property. The staff did work hard to accommodate our large group but all the food came out at different times and it was a little chaotic.

HAPPY HOUR MAI TAIS!!!! I use to bar tend so I have that bad habit of counting while the bartender pours alcohol to find out how strong the drinks are. Most restaurants always follow the same guidelines of having a shot and a half in all their drinks. Not this bar. No way. These are the strongest and tastiest Mai Tais we've ever had. Not to mention the bar is right by the water. What could be better than drinking an amazing Mai Tai while watching the sunset? Nothing. P.S. the food is typical to most places (burgers, sandwiches, fried food).

Location A+. Drinks good. View great. Food - don't go here for good tasting seafood or find dining. Food is totally meh. The spearfish sandwich was way gross, fish was not cleaned properly (left bloodline in and totally ruined it). Basically, go here to enjoy a cocktail and leave the eating to elsewhere.

Found this place as we were shopping up and down Ali'i Drive and it happened to be happy hour. Got a pretty Mai Tai that was decent. The happy hour tacos were micro-mini. And the half basket of fries (around $3) was barely filled it halfway. I don't think there were more than a dozen fries in the basket, but at least they were thick cut. Still, how much should potatoes cost?!? Aside from that, the kid's grilled cheese plate came with a decent amount of fries and heard good reviews on how good the cheese in the sandwich tasted. This place is really all about sitting at a table next to the water and watching the view. Don't think I'd go back unless I just happened to be there and there was nothing else open.

The Kona Canoe Club is about what you'd expect from a restaurant with a view in the middle of a tourist trap... overpriced, mediocre food and watery drinks, and service that borders on non-existent. If you do go (which I don't recommend) stay away from the mud pie (which is served with a side of visible freezer-burn).

We have lived in this Kailua-Kona area for ten years and we visit this restaurant weekly. The drinks are fabulous (strong), the view is incredible and the FRESH FISH DINNER_ - now THAT is the thing to get here! The tartar sauce is GREAT! Everyone who I've taken to this restaurant loves it and usually get the fresh fish dinner (with jasmine rice and vegetables). This restaurant should have a 5 star rating.. maybe others didn't recognize the generous drinks here and the fresh fish platter. IT'S A PLACE TO GO! (PS: I dont know the owners, so this isn't biased).

I have no clue what people like about this place besides the view. I wanted a veggie burger, at $11 that is a bit much but we are in Hawaii so fine...but you don't have an automatic option for fries, if you want fries that will be an extra $2.50...for fries! Frozen fries that they throw in the fryer. Goodness. So instead I go for the fish tacos, you can't really mess those up right? Well I was wrong. First off the rice was WAY undercooked...still crunchy undercooked, that is a huge pet peeve of mine. And the flavor was blah, I make better mexican rice then that...came with some jar la victoria type salsa. Then the fish tacos...they didn't even warm up the corn tortillas, the fish was super greasy and really chewy which means they used frozen fish...we are in Hawaii...frozen fish? Then it is just tore up (brown by the way) iceberg lettuce and shredded cheese out of the bag. NO flavor at all, just grease and chewy fish. I was REALLY hungry and ate just because of that and the fact we were in a hurry and I didn't have time to return the meal and wait for a new dish...seeing as how that dish took forever to make it to our table. The water even tasted bad. My husbands fish and chips were just as bad, big steak fries weren't horrible but the fish was the same, really chewy and greasy. Just blah...never again. Our waitress was really nice so that is why they get 2 stars instead of just 1.

While walking along Alii Drive, my wife and I started looking for somewhere to grab a late lunch. We were uneasy about the KCC as it appeared to be just another tourist spot. But because of the great views of the ocean we decided to give it a go. We were both delighted we did. She had a burger and I had seared Ahi. Both meals were great and the service was excellent. AND, we enjoyed a wonderful view as we ate. Like some of the other reviewers, we felt it was a bit pricey but given that it was lunchtime, we did not feel it was altogether out of line. We never went to KCC for dinner. That may be another pricing story, don't know. Tip: if a late lunch fits into your plans (we were there about 2:30), you will have a real good shot at nabbing a table along the ocean side of the dining room. While we were there, the only tables that were taken were on the ocean side. We walked by once earlier in the day and it appeared to be a good bit more crowded. Timing is everything.

There are always some places on a trip that you wish you had skipped, and other places you wish you had found earlier, so that you could have repeated. Kona Canoe Club is one of the places I was kicking myself, for finding only on my LAST day on the big island. GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. We endured some bad meals, and this place would have come is soooo handy on those days. They serve salads, sandwiches, and 14 kinds of burgers, but also have appetizers like quesadillas and sliders. As Donna mentions, Kona Canoe Club has an amazing view of the water and starting area where the Kona Ironman swim begins. The quality of food is very good and just about everything on the menu is $10 - $15. This place is fairly hidden off of Ali'i drive, but that just makes it a place you will appreciate even more once you find it.

Tonight, my wife and I went to Kona Canoe Club for happy hour and dinner. It was terrible! We ordered nachos (good), margaritas (ok)....but the service was horrible! We had to ask for water (something that is not optional in Kona as far as I'm concerned), then after our waiter had dropped off our nachos (literally... from about six inches from the table top), he disappeared. We ate the nachos, but he never came back to take our dinner order!!!! When we finally decided to leave, he scurried up to us and asked "Pau?" Well, my wife read him the riot act, and he started to argue with her. "I was waiting for you to finish your nachos..." We left, without tipping, and will NEVER go back. We finished dinner at Jackie Rays (a great place). It will be a freezing day in Kona before I eat there again!

This place is pretty much the same as what you'll find all over. Lots of fried stuff, with nachos and burgers. We kept going back for the Mai Tai's - which deserve a try and one more! They will definitely start (or end) your evening right! Two menu choices that are worth mention: the kalua pork tacos (guess we can call that Hawaiian fusion) and the calamari pupu (that's an appetizer in HI). The calamari is sautéed and uses the hood, so it's like a steak - very lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. Did I mention the Mai Tai's? Darn those were good (and strong)!!

I agree with Elizabeth that it's a great location and that there's a great view. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich on the recommendation of the server. It was pretty good but not extraordinary. They do have some happy hour items. I didn't order any of it but they seemed to be a good deal.

I stopped here for a midday snack because the boyfriend was hungry... it was what it was. It wasn't too expensive, but the food wasn't really all that great. Happy hour was cheap, but the margaritas weren't that great, either. Service was friendly. Overall, meh. I suppose if you just want a quick bite, it's fine, but I wouldn't make a family affair out of it.

Our family stopped here for dinner around 4 pm on a Wednesday. Our waitress was super nice and was on top of everything we needed. She was informative and funny and was pleasant to visit with. We never felt like she was in a hurry or we were annoying tourists. The food was just ok. Nothing fabulous but nothing wrong either - just middle of the road. My daughter and I had the Ono fish sandwich. The fish was amazing but not for 18.95 a sandwich. My son had mac and cheese - which was straight out of the kraft box. My husband had a hamburger which was just nothing special. He had to pay 2.50 for fries even though he didnt want the macaroni, potato salad or coleslaw it comes with. When the fries came out I had to laugh - there were literally 11 steak fries, the frozen kind you buy at the grocery store for 2.50 for a big bag. A total rip off. I would suggest that they just add the fries and add a dollar to the menu, seriously. So, wtih everyones pop, milk and three happy hours beers for my husband, our bill came to 87.00. A bit steep if you ask me for 3 sandwiches and kraft macaroni. The view here is gorgeous and that is what you are paying for. The view and our nice waitress is what earned this place 2 stars. The food was meh.

As a local I have given this place many opportunities and I have yet to be impressed - or even feel welcome there. I don't think I've ever even been greeted with a hello. All of the staff that I have dealt with have been rude and unwelcoming and always act like they would rather be doing anything other then helping you. An establishment is only as good as their staff members - since they are half of the experience. I do not recommend this place to anyone and apologize to anyone who has visited Kona and felt unwelcome anywhere.

Wonderful place to watch the sunset without a crowd and great service. We came with 8 people twice without reservations and they never gave us any looks or made us wait, unlike at Huggo's Restaurant (not Huggo's on the Rocks). The food is good, and the Blue Hawaiian is super strong and delicious! True hospitality here.

Not kid friendly if you have a toddler. Don't even think about it They'll tell you you can't bring in your baby food since it's a health code violation. First of 50+ restaurant I've been to in 5 states that actually said you can't feed your kid baby food. I will never return to this establishment. Very little customer service, and slow. Manager went as far as saying..well, we have a problem with people bringing in their own food. Gee..we had a $70 food and drink tab, but they gave attitude over flippen baby food. Not even the hint of an apology. Worst server possible..if you get Alycia.do yourself a favor and.ask for someone else. If you have kids....go across the street to the Fish Hopper. way better service.
