Killer Taco was phenomenal for several reasons. The food was fast, it was affordable, and it was DELICIOUS! I had the quesadilla with Kahlua pork, and a side of rice and refried beans to go with. If you like plenty of cheese (as I do!) this will be a great option. Not to mention a massive portion. I had half a tortilla layered with scrumptious pork and melted cheese, encased in another perfectly grilled tortilla. They also have several tortilla options, including tomato and spinach. The spinach was particularly nice, and made me feel like I could at least pretend to be healthy while devouring what seemed like 1/2 lb. of cheese. Ultimately, this is a perfect place for either loading up calories before the active beach time, or replenishing your energy after spending all day frolicking with the turtles on the white sandy beaches. An absolute must.

I had the beef tacos and they were amazing. The service was outstanding. My friend had the longboard burrito which was also amazing.

*Really really good burritos in this industrial park gem *Get the longboard pork burrito with added jalapenos, bam! *Great spot to stock up on burritos for the car trip out for the day

This place has killer burritos. We shared the longboard pork burrito very large and delicious.

Locals sent us to this industrial area for cheaper tacos. Good food great prices. Lunch special- two tacos ( your choice chicken, kaluha pork or beef) and a large drink $5.29 Just a small simple place

Lives up to their reputation. This place is not messing around! If you are from the mainland, compare it to Taco Del Mar but with waaaay fresher ingredients. I had the Kalua Pig Longboard Burrito in a sundried tomato tortilla and it did not disappoint! Served piping hot which I love! Hubby had three soft tacos, one with each kind of meat, and we both thought the pork was best, followed by the beef, and then the chicken, although ALL were tasty. I'd recommend the tacos if you have a smaller appetite. Habanero salsa is spicy and delicious and will make your skin dewy. Free refills on drinks. Fresh jalapeños on request. I'd recommend driving here as opposed to walking, as the location is in an industrial area with occasional sidewalks, but you are mostly on the shoulder of a busy road. Worth the trip from Kona resort area!

Coming from a Mexican family, I'm fairly picky about my Mexican food. Still, this place was great. Fast service, pretty inexpensive, and really good. I got the super nachos, and while I wish they had a few more toppings, they were delicious. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Kona!

I love me some fish tacos. After reading reviews and seeing plenty of cars with Killer Tacos stickers, I had to check this place out. It did not disappoint! This cash-only establishment located in a strip mall was bumpin' with butts in most of the available seats and a decent line to order. By the time you pay, your order is ready as they make everything right in front of you at the counter. The menu had plenty of options, but I came here for the tacos, so that is what I got. Fish tacos in Hawaii for only 3 bucks a piece! Pork and other meats are slightly cheaper. I liked the one pork taco I ordered, but the fish tacos had me back in line ordering more...a lot more. The tacos themselves are relatively simple, but the combination of the fish, sauce, and minimal toppings melt in your mouth creating a savory fusion that you won't forget. I'm quite a stickler with my 5-star ratings, but the addicting tacos and non-inflated prices make me want to recommend this spot to everyone.

This location is better than the Hale'iwa outpost. The servers are a little more friendly. A bit tough to find, as it's in an industrial area, but don't let that scare you off. The Taco Salad is a massive portion of food. Small crispy tortilla shell, loads of impossibly-thinly-shredded lettuce, salsa, cheese, and your choice of protein (get the kalua pig) spilling out across the tray. The lunch taco deal (2 tacos of your choice and a drink for $5) is a good value. Your choices from bean, pig, beef, or chicken. All are tasty; I usually do one pig, one chicken, plus a side of refried beans. My one complaint is that if the taco-crafters don't drain the scoop of meat, the juices make the tacos soggy and unnecessarily messy. But then I guess you're not going for elegance with tacos. We lunch here at least a couple times whenever we're on the Big Island.

Good food priced well. That's saying a lot for food in Kona. Nachos and Burritos were the best value here even though tacos are in the name

Killer Tacos is just ok, there are better taquerias in Kona. Our favorite place is Patricios. We had 2 burritos at Killer Tacos the other day. Mine was a regular (shortboard) pork burrito and my friend had a super (longboard) chicken burrito both with black beans. The burritos were average, nothing special. No salsa bar and no free chips.

Randomly ate here while doing laundry at the laundry mat next door. Glad I did. I can only write this review on one item however. The longboard burrito with pulled pork, black beans, and habanero sauce. Ive never got anything else because its so damn good. I really want to branch out but i can't because I'm afraid I've hit the top already with my initial choice. Eat here a lot and it never disappoints. Very fast service and cheap. Starting to get more touristy so hopefully they are making some extra cash and can open another one maybe in South Kona or closer to Ali'i. Still like this location though because its close to Old A, park, pool, gym, soccer fields, Keiki beach, great to grab a to go and eat at one of these spots. Cash only but ATM inside.

  • Kathleen M.

Wow you are among the locals here at Killer tacos, very friendly and polite. No table service order at the counter and then you find a seat if you are lucky and take turns filling up your beverage so you don't lose your table.. Try the chicken burrito or a beef taco very very good but my favorite item was the shredded chicken taco. Large portions, I don't think I could eat two shredded chicken tacos, but I am sure a growing teenager could easily tuck away a couple of those tacos or more. Lunch hour is very busy so expect lines out the door. Closed Sundays.

This place is one of the more reasonably priced places on this side of the island. The staff was friendly, and the food was okay. The beans were good, but the salsas were watery and flavorless. The rice was a little mushy, but the guac was pretty delicious. If given the opportunity, I probably won't go back to Killer Tacos but will gamble on another place to eat in Kona instead.

  • Julie H.

As hyperbolic as this sounds, this is THE BEST burrito I've ever had. Hands down. I had a moment with this burrito. You know it's good when you take a bite and close your eyes to fully savor the food. We picked up food to go out first time and loved it so much we went back for lunch the next day. Seems to be busier during lunch. The food was so good, have I mentioned that yet? Personally I ordered the longboard burrito with kalua pork and refried beans. They have a few different tortilla options and I tried the spinach, it was pretty indistinguishable between all the other flavors. It was a nice soft chewy consistency though and I'm sure any tortilla (white, wheat, spinach, sundries tomato) would be great. For all the reasons to return to Hawaii, Killer Tacos is one of the top reasons!

  • Ann K.

Fast food Mexican. Seemed very clean and relatively cool on the hot day I visited. The server was young and untrained but seemed eager to please. He put an enormous amount of cheese on my taco salad before asking me if I wanted cheese which was listed as an option. The rice seemed a bit sticky and gluey, but the refried beans were good. A step above Taco Bell.

I'll first qualify this review by stating that I normally reside in the metropolitan area of Phoenix. We traveled to Kona as part of a business function. As a result of living in AZ, I am routinely exposed to authentic Mexican food. Killer Taco made both me & my stomach smile. I had the Longboard Burrito with Big Island Kulua pig wrapped in a spinach tortilla. It was very big and oh so very good. My girl ordered the Fish Burrito and I almost stole it from her when she allowed me to have a small bite. This place is good. Real good.

Had two great fish tacos with their hot jalapeño sauce. It actually was not hot but the jalapeño flavor was great. Solid value! Cash only so come prepared or use the I premise ATM.

PROS: This place has the best tacos I've had ANYWHERE in kona. They have fresh veggies and about 5 different options for salsa. I tried the Habanero, and that $#!t BURNED!!!! lol. very tasty though. The size of their burrito's are ridiculously HUGE! Packed with a bunch of delicious-ness: Chicken, Beef, & Fish. Oh, & the tacos are BOMB! CONS: I would say the place could be a lot more cleaner. Napkins all on the floor, chairs disoriented, food spills on the table and floor. Maybe they didn't know that they could bring in a lot more business, if they kept the restaurant tidy and clean. (Majority rules: EVERYONE LIKES IT CLEAN) The staff was so so. There was about 4 of them in the back; 2 of which was helping on the line and 2 that wasn't doing anything. They clearly could sneak away for a couple minutes to help clean the dining area, because it looked like a group of people were having a musical chairs taco party right in the middle and the trash was left. I will definitely come back. However, please work on the cleanliness!!!

It's quick, it's filling, it's cheap, and it's consistently good. Low key atmosphere, cool t-shirts . Can't go wrong here. Try the burrito with Kailua pig and black beans, spinach or sundried tomato tortilla. It's been 10 years and we keep coming back...

    (5)
  • Lane B.

Absolutely incredible! I asked for a suggestion, and the young man asked how hungry I was. VERY! He suggested the longboard burrito with Kahlua pig. So I did, with jalapeño sauce! Incredible food and very friendly locals!

    (5)
  • Linn T.

The tacos were great and there's a very wide variety. The people are super friendly and helpful. They have three sauces including have a habanero sauce that will burn your face off. The fish taco was far and away the best.

    (5)
  • D M.

My favorite place to get a burrito in Kona! Fish burrito is very good (massive too) and the habanero sauce is really spicy. The staff is always very friendly and quick. There is usually a line, which should speak for itself. ;) Downfalls: the parking lot can get packed. Cash only (atm inside).

  • Christine R.

We were craving Mexican food on our stay on the Big Island and Killer Tacos did not disappoint! My son had the nachos, and my husband and I both had the pork burritos. They were all delicious and we left feeling really satisfied. The burritos are HUGE, by the way. The only reason why I didn't give them a 5 star was location. It was hard to find and we made a few circles in the hood but once we found it, we won't forget the location for the next time.

  • Jamie L.

We drove past it a few times, but it was definitely worth the hunt. Hint: address is on Kaiwi St, but enter on Luhia St. I ordered a burrito and a taco. I ate 1/2 of the burrito and went back for another taco. GET THE TACO! Hard shells for tacos are made onsite. DELISH! Sadly, we didn't discover this place until our last day on the Big Island...I think they may be worth another trip! Everything was served up with plenty of the Aloha spirit! Best tacos ever!

Love that place, great food, great prices. Fish taco is amazing. Sometimes very busy but worth it. Will recommend and come again.

    (5)
  • Rebecca S.

A little hard to find at first. In kind of an industrial strip. It was worth the hunt for this place. I had the fish tacos----yummy. My daughter wanted to go back for more fish tacos later in our trip. Husband had a huge burrito. Prices were good.

    (4)
  • Adam F.

Solid large burritos and tasty tacos. Get the local Kailua Pork with the habanero sauce.

    (4)
  • Damian M.

Killer Tacos is the only place in Kona that you can get good Mexican food for a decent price. We don't have the cheap, yet good tasting Mexican restraunts like some states, and only a few of the pricier Mexican restaraunts are actually good. Get the pork, it's Kalua pig.

    (4)
  • Kem K.

I got the taco salad. Terrible. The lettuce was really wet and very cold, the chicken was dry and the medium salsa tasted old. Avoid.

Simple menu well done. Had short board burrito, soft and hard tacos in our party. Everyone was happy.

Been driving by Killer Tacos for a while and have been meaning to try it (great name, and even cooler slogan on the shirts). 1. Food: we had a chicken burrito (longboard), taco salad and chips/salsa. The chicken is shredded, which is too bad because grilled makes a better burrito, salad, etc., but the seasonings were good. The burrito was kind of a mess: (1) asked for no guac, but they included it anyway; (2) extra chicken, not sure I got it; and (3) it started to fall apart within two bites. The taco salad was on iceberg lettuce and just ok. The salsa, in contrast, was really good (we tried medium and 2nd-most hot). 2. People: indifferent to friendly - depended on who you talked with: one woman could barely crack a smile, but the other was very nice. 3. Location/Ambiance: small spot not in the tourist area, which is cool. 4. Other: cash only, which can be annoying to some, but I had some on me so not a big deal. We'll give it another try, and maybe try the fish.

So I hadn't been in for a long while as there are so many small mom and pop mexican places now in what is known as the "old industrial area" of Kailua town. As I was a bachelor for the evening I stopped in on my way out of Target and thought I'd try a taco salad as I have enjoyed their burritos. Imagine my surprise to get a bunch of shredded lettuce, with a scoop of chicken on top (see pic). Oh, yea, the taco bowl held about 3/4 of a cup of lettuce and meat, or 25% of what was in the box. Fortunately I was on my way home and was able to put some fresh tomatos and other mexican type things on to salvage this. First off though I had to actually drain the salad, as the lettuce was soaking wet and there was a layer of water on the bottom! I'm still shaking my head at this as I could have gotten a head of lettuce at Target and put some shredded chicken on it just as easily as stopping in here. I also had a taco, which was soggy because of the lettuce. This leaves me wondering if there' s been a change of management / ownership, as I have had better experiences in the past, I am sorry to say. Oh well!

Amazing food. Great service. Don't let the industrial setting turn you off . Best burrito I've had in a long time . Visitor from Canada

  • Evan A.

This is the kind of place I love to find on vacation - simple, quick, and cheap, so we can eat and then get back to the actual experiences we came halfway across the world for! Great, sizable burritos (white, wheat, or spinach) and uncomplicated tacos (chicken, spicy beef, or Kahlua pork) for about $6 per person, made quickly by friendly staff right in front of you. It took a bit of effort to find the place in an industrial park area, but it was well worth the excursion and we will definitely be going back.

  • Cassandra S.

Great pig burrito. Split one between hubbie and I. It was a perfect lunch. Cheap too! A mix of Hawaii and Mexico style burrito.

    (4)
  • Doll F.

If you want a cheap, filling lunch, this is your place. The food is not earth shattering, but is fresh and you get lots of it. The chicken, guac and salsa was a bit lacking in flavor and abundant in salt. The hard taco shell was delicious. If I were in the area, I might go here again, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

    (3)
  • Edge N.

Ended up trying this place on the fly. When my co-worker and myself got here there was like 2 people inline. We just missed the after lunch crowd, I guess, because after getting our order there must have been at least 8 people in line. Tells you something when there is a line at 2pm. Taco special was good and pretty damn cheap. If I remember it was two good sized beef tacos with drink for around 6 dollars. Tacos were tasty and definitely deserve a return visit when I am in Kona.

    (4)
  • Nancy S.

Delicious! Had the lunch special (2 hard shell tacos & soda) and devoured it. I had 1 pork and 1 chicken taco, Mom had 1 bean and 1 beef. Bean and pork are our choices for next time. Crispy house-made shells, fresh lettuce, spicy salsa - all combine to make a refreshing and reasonably priced lunch. Yes, it's hard to find, but worth the hunt. Busy at lunch, a few tables inside and out, friendly staff and great food!

Love going here for a different kind of burrito, thats so good and fresh! I love the longboard pork burrito and the fish tacos are "killer". Everything is good and fresh. On point.

During my travels I attempt to eat at the local Mexican restaurants [you can even find one on Rarotonga, Cook Islands and on Antigua, West Indies, Caribbean]. I visit these restaurants in pursuit of the perfect burrito (at least to my tastes). For years, the one at the top of my list was El Faro, in Concord, CA. But after verifying that my first visit wasn't a (taste) fluke, the burritos, at Killer Tacos in Kailua-Kona, HI, have moved ahead of the pack. I have ordered both the long board and short board (difference is the long board has sour cream and guac). I prefer the long board, but you can't go wrong with either choice. The meats are moist and flavorful. There is a choice of four different tortillas: flour, wheat, spinach and tomato. You have a choice of beans and peppers (warning - the habanero is spicy hot!). I will be sure to come back to this place, every time I'm on the island!

Little hard to find small shop in a industrial looking area behind target but the food was great kind a like a Qudoba if you know what that is you walk up and tell them taco or burrito or salad and what meets and side you want on it the pulled pork was great beef was okay the chicken was good too I would say the best was the pulled pork I did not try the fish it seems to get good reviews on here though. Cash only I stress.

Wikiwiki ono grinds! Fast, delicious tacos and burritos crafted by experts directed by you in real time. Extreme surfing videos entertain the locals frequenting this akamai delight. Bottled beverages in cooler, like a beach cabana.

The Kalua pork long board burrito was very good. Staff was friendly and courteous. Parking can be difficult.

  • Matt A.

I came here after a long bike ride based on the recommendation of the guy at the shop. A good, filling burrito is always what I look for in these situations, and he suggested I come here. Overall, it was a good choice. I had a shortboard burrito with chicken and it was quite large and filling. Flavorwise, the chicken was very good. It was moist shredded chicken, which while tasty, is never as food to me as grilled chicken. A part of me wishes I had tried the ground beef, but overall the burrito was good and it hit the spot.

    (4)
  • Craig C.

Great food at a reasonable price and super friendly staff. Hard and soft tacos are both great. Order it spicy. Lots of locals and a great vibe. I have been coming to Kona for years and would not miss a trip here every time.

  • Adrian W.

The fish taco and fish burrito are incredible. It was recommended by the locals here and there's a clear reason why. Definitely a must when on the Big Island.

    (5)
  • Amy M.

Had a short board burrito- delicious! Service was quick and friendly!! I would recommend this to anyone that loves a good burrito or taco! I was not overly impressed with their tortilla chips but otherwise everything was great!!!

    (5)
  • Paul M.

Nice people, but clearly they have taco bell as the model they aspire to. Woefully inadequate by California standards. E.g ground beef instead of carne asada. Sigh.

  • Sarah A.

This was recommended by the big blue bible of Hawaii. It was a bit tricky for us to find at first ("Oh sure, it's by the laundromat!"....which is where?) It's in a sort of strip mall in an industrial area of Kona. It's a small little shop and there was only one girl working the day we were there. They are CASH ONLY but do have an ATM just in case. The burrito's were definitely tasty and the ingredients fresh. It's a good price too after spending way too much on dinners at the resort. I don't know that I would go way out of my way to try this, but if you're in town it is totally worth a trip!

    (3)
  • Di H.

The taste of their fish burrito is just so so, I've had much better back home. The pork burrito was quite good and the ground beef was ok.

    (3)
  • Chris P.

This is just a small fast food place, but it was really, REALLY good! I was not a fan of fish tacos but since we were in Hawaii I thought why not order a regular taco and try a fish taco. Oh my gosh, my mouth fell in love! Their food was SO good, the staff was very friendly, and contrary to one review I had read on this place, the place was super clean and kind of trendy with stainless steel chairs etc. Highly recommend if you are wanting some good mexican food for a reasonable price (which is hard to find in Hawaii).

    (5)
  • Erica M.

Ok so for the price you get plenty of food, not good food though. This is not good Mexican food. I am from California and this cannot compete with any taco truck in California. The chicken wasn't so good and the what they labeled habanero was anything but... This place is a joke

    (2)
  • Ward K.

When you want a big tasty burrito, this is a pretty good place to come. They make 4 different types: 1) Veggie Burrito - Fresh salsa, guacamole, lettuce, rice and beans. Cheese and sour cream are optional. $4.99 2) Fish Burrito - Tender Alaskan Cod! YUUUUM! Rice, beans cheese shredded cabbage, salsa and their own spicy cream sauce. $6.49 3) ShortBoard Burrito - Rice, refried or black beans, cheese, and choice of meat. 4) LongBoard Burrito - Choice of meat, rice, refried or black beans. includes cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and salsa. $6.49 For rice, they have either brown, or Spanish. For meats, they have roasted chicken, spicy ground beef, or Big Island kalua pig. They also have tacos, taco salad nachos, and quesadilla all for a reasonable price and the most important.... Your taste buds will thank you. I would of gave them 5 stars but they only take cash. 74-5483 Kaiwi St. Ste 145 Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 ph: (808) 329-3335 Hours of Operation: Mon -Fri 10 am - 8 pm Saturday 10 am - 6 pm Sundays - Closed

Great fish tacos and fish burritos! Helps to order carry-out cause it can get busy depending on the time. Also, request sauce on the side for dipping or dribble on the quantity you like.

    (5)
  • Marty T.

We stopped in here while doing laundry next door on vacation. The reviews here are on the mark - great tacos! I had the chicken and pork, and would recommend the latter, although both were good. The restaurant doesn't have much eye appeal, but don't let that discourage you. The staff was super friendly and food great! Even bought a T-shirt for our son back home...

    (4)
  • Jessi M.

Definitely Killer! Giant burrito, was very tasty!

    (4)
  • Rocco C.

I eat here multiple times a week. The staff is so friendly, helpful, and clean just like the business! Food is amazing and so worth a stop in the old industrial area.

    (5)
  • Lauren W.

I really like their habanero salsa, and even though it's their hottest, if you like hot, it's not really that hot. It's cheap, so if you're hungry but don't want to spend a ton of money this is a good place to stop. I wasn't super impressed by their food in general so just don't expect much more than what you're paying for.

    (3)
  • Michael M.

Ohhh yeah... If you're looking for great tacos, this is the place! It's hard to find in their industrial park location, but it's worth the ride and hunt to get there. The not so good location and really poor signage when you're trying to find the place, are made up for with their delicious tacos and burritos and salads. The staff are pleasant and serve up a great meal. Mmm definitely worth the trip.

    (5)
  • Kris V.

MUST try the Longboard or the Super Nachos with the Kalua Pork! The sizes are definitely made to share and the flavor does not disappoint! Highly recommended if you are in the Kona area and looking for some great no-frills local/mexican food.

  • Jennifer D.

Absolutely delicious! You will not find a better value in Kona. The hard tacos and burritos with pork are the best.

Tasty tacos. They make em up fresh on the spot. Nice gal making them. Very fresh ingredients. Favorite was the pork tacos.

Worst tacos ever. Ok, maybe I am spoiled coming from California but I was looking not for Mexican food but FISH TACOS. I wouldn't expect to get great Mexican food in Hawaii but fish tacos? Yes I would expect greatness. Well not here. First of all the FISH WAS NOT LOCAL. It was Alaskan cod and it was battered and deep fried!!! Aweful! I didn't realize it until I ordered it and saw them making it. Also, the ingredients are MUSH. Everything is squeezed out of a bottle - the ''guacamole"" and "jalepenos'' were creamed and came out of a bottle!!! It was disgusting! It was like baby food. And the tortilla wasn't even cooked! Gross! And to top it off, the portion was tiny tiny and they don't include chips! You have to pay $3.99 for chips and salsa!! They should toss some chips in just to help scoop up the mushy mucky food. I took a few bites and tossed it. you couldn't make a more disgusting fattening non fresh fish taco ever. Avoid this place. There has got to be a better fish taco in Kona. I will be investigating other venues and report back.

Good meal. Food was okay for a fast food place. Not 'authentic' Mexican food but for an inexpensive, quick and filling meal in Kona, it served it's purpose. Pleasant, friendly staff. Didn't make us feel like tourists.

  • Travis P.

Killer taco? I don't know about that, but it was a pretty good taco (and burrito). The kalua pig tacos and burrito were good ... And remarkably like carnitas, in case anyone needed that Hawaiian-Spanish translation. Seating is limited, but there's no reason to linger, so that's probably not a big deal. My only real gripe is that the fish tacos and burritos are made from Alaskan cod. While I'm sure it's delicious, I couldn't bring myself to order Alaskan fish in Hawai'i.

    (4)
  • Carina T.

Fish tacos with the hard shell are so yummy. The Alaskan cod they use is super flavorful and ONOlicious!

  • Jeanette B.

OMG really?! I can't believe the reviews this place gets. And my guide book said best Mexican food on the island. I didn't trust anything else I read in that guide book or Yelp after eating at Killer Tacos. I had been saving my fish taco experience for Killer Tacos. I get there and it is basically a slow fast food restaurant. And the fish tacos are COD. In Hawaii?! Needless to say I passed on fish tacos and had a taco salad with beef. Fine if you compare it to Taco Bell. I have yet to find a real fish taco on this island. BUT, I did see a food truck today, Estrada ' s Surf and Turf. They are not listed on Yelp but good reviews on Trip Advisor. So, I think I will try it and if it's good try to get onto Yelp.

  • Sarah S.

Loved this place. Quick, good food and great service. This was our first find on Yelp and we were happy to find it. Take note that this is in the industrial section, a bit of the beaten path, but helped save us some $$ for other meals on the island. If you are a chipotle or free birds fan, this is a local version.. not exactly the same food, but the same concept. They do well to focus on a simple menu. My portion was more than I could finish.

In our search for great Hawaiian food in strip malls we discovered Killer Tacos. We all enjoyed the fish tacos immensely. The fish is batter fried, but not greasy. The sauce is good--medium hot is not very hot, though, so if you like some heat go for "hot". The tacos are a little unusual-if you get a soft taco, it is on a flour tortilla and rolled, not folded.

Great burritos and the fish tacos are good as well. Living in Southern California makes me kinda spoiled and picky about eating mexican food in different states but I was surprised. The longboard burrito is what I recommend. The pork was great and the chicken as well. Worth the stop if you're craving mexican food.

Terrible place, even worse service, food was disgusting and they dont even take credit cards. They must be living in the 18th century. Dont waste your time or CASH there.

The name does not lie, these are indeed Killer Tacos. I thought they were fantastic - place looks a little funny walking in and I was kind of like "oh dear, what am I in for" but the meat and toppings all tasted really fresh and super flavorful. Authentic it is not, but for american-style tacos, they were delicious and the lunch special is a super good deal.

  • D J.

You can find this place just north of the touristy core of town. Which is a good thing. This was good food, and true to local style, the tacos were big and fat; more like small burritos. We had a burrito, too, which my daughter said was pretty good. This is a great place to hit if you are coming to Target, or going shopping to stock up a vacation rental. It's right off the highway and easy to find.

Great tacos! Fast service and good prices. $6 lunch deal: two tacos and a drink. Beef and chicken is better than the pork. Super easy to get to from the old airport beach.

  • Adam H.

Good prices, tasty food big portions! Was great for a quick meal.

    (4)
  • Makhetsi L.

Definitely not authentic-tasting mexican but I've come to expect such from Kona. It's a good price but very bland. I can make better at home. Service is friendly and the place looks clean.

  • Karen S.

I ordered the Big Island kalua pig tacos. The meat was really moist and flavorful. I also had their housemade guacamole which was also good. Good Mexican food seems pretty hard to find on the island, but Killer Tacos is definitely a solid bet.

    (4)
  • Becky S.

Very nice employees, and fairly reasonable prices, but anyone who has had REAL Mexican food will not want to eat here.

    (2)
  • Marti A.

No - it ain't fancy or even authentically Mexican, but it is a fun fusion of Hawaiian and Mexican. Each time we're on the island, we get their pulled pork soft tacos, or split a barnyard burrito (easily a dinner for two normal appetites)... usually, best as take out and eaten with a cold one overlooking the ocean watching the sunset. Now that's da kine!

    (4)
  • Mark H.

Great place, and inexpensive. Food on all the Hawaiian islands is generally bland, salty, fatty, and worst of all....damned expensive. In contrast, Killer Tacos serves very good food, lots of it, for a low price. Their meat and sauces are very good, the staff is friendly, and it's a very cool, very low-key place. When we fly in, we always get lunch at Killer Tacos, and then hit Costco on the way to our condo. We always get a condo because we eat much better (in Hawaii) cooking for ourselves, and we save a ton of money....because, again...the restaurants generally are expensive and not very good. Save your shekels on the Big Island for the great coffee and places like the fantastic Hamakua Macadamia Nut Company that is way north of Kona (I'm just about to post a great review for them...).

  • Kelton J.

What kind of fish taco place opens on one of the best coasts of the Hawaiian Islands, and puts store bought Alaskan cod in their tacos?? Fail. I won't go back.

    (1)
  • Jack M.

One word -Awful. I had a beef burrito, it tasted like eating wax, must of been all that grease. Taco bell is better than this place!

    (1)
  • Helen H.

Mostly because we get great mexican food in LA, I found this place just okay, nothing special. BTW I got the salad with fish, husband got the killer burrito and a taco.

    (3)
  • Ashley B.

I gave this place 5 stars simply because it was one of the cheapest meals we had on the island and was definitely worth the price. Of course, I've had better Mexican food, but like I said... for this price it's excellent quality and quantity. I got the longboard chicken burrito, which came with beans, rice, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. My husband had two beef tacos. We paid under $12. Their menu is simple and it's worth checking out for lunch or a simple dinner.

    (5)
  • Matthew S.

Nice little hole in the wall. Came here for some burritos after craving burritos from home. They have really great fish burritos, and they are not crazy expensive like the other places mainly because of the type of fish they use. Their service is great as well, nice and friendly staff.

    (4)
  • Katherine K.

We came here on vacation after missing our California Mexican food. While its nothing like the food we have at home, it's still good. I got a fish burrito and loved it. It was cheap and tasty. Only bummer is that this place gets pretty packed at lunch so seating might be hard to find.

    (5)
  • Jan F.

Loved it. Our friend who lives here is friends with the owner. She took us there for lunch. My husband and our friend had the kalua pig burritos. I had the spicy ground beef salad. All were excellent. Too much food. My husband and I took 1/2 home. Such a deal. There is always a line but the service is fast. The prices are great. We will be coming back for more!!!

  • Erin H.

Simple but very tasty....maybe not 'killer' like the guidebook and their name suggests - but I really enjoyed them. It's a small shop where they put it all together right in front of you (Chipotle style I guess), and I don't mean this to offend, because I'm a sucker for Taco Bell tacos - but it kind of reminded me of glorified Taco Bell tacos SANS grease - what more could you want? Both of us had one beef and one chicken taco, plus chips and salsa. I enjoyed the salsa but the chips? Eh, I've had better ones from the market. Cheap and cheerful as my Dad would say - which is a rare find on the islands.

    (4)
  • Steph S.

Small place but I really liked the fish tacos and burritos - very flavorful, a nice staff for an overall very good food and experience, even if I had low expectations. Definitely a place I would go back to if I have a craving for Mexican food.

    (4)
  • David W.

Killer tacos it's a must stop when visiting the north shore. Be sure to try the fish tacos or the fish burrito. And if you're like me, visit this place twice so you can try the crunchy tacos as well. All are killer!

    (5)
  • Brad P.

Killer tacos serves decent mexican food at a decent price. I've only tried their kalua pork burrito... it's pretty darn good. For about $5 it's enough to satisfy even the most gargantuan hunger. Make sure you bring cash...

    (3)
  • Chris O.

Yay they are open again. Cash only which is weird. Kailua pig burrito was very good, lots of meat, flavorful - a little oily but not excessively so. Wife loved her crunchy pig tacos also. The salsas range from marinara (mild=no spice) to ho hum (medium=mild). The location is Spartan but who cares. Prices are reasonable. CLOSED (2009) - we tried to go there and it was permanently closed with paper over the windows, no forwarding address.

  • Scott M.

This place is pretty good when it comes to fish burritos and I'm pretty spoiled being from Southern California. One filled me up and I can eat! I would give it 5 stars if they sold beer, but oh well. Hopefully see you next year Killer Tacos!

    (4)
  • Kyle G.

Holy mother all that's good! If you are anywhere near this place.... Get your butt here and order their fish taco. I ordered two for lunch and wish I would have ordered two more! Fantastic. Don't let the outside scare you from eating here. The food is great!

    (4)
  • Jeremiah C.

Great barnyard burrito! So filling and tasty! Worth finding.

    (5)
  • Hendrik S.

Maybe five stars is a little too much, but the average 3.5 star rating needs to be increased. I came here with my wife. She had the vegetable burrito and I had the Kailua pork burrito with hot sauce. My wife thought hers was just OK, but it is my review and her loss that she would have gone for the vegetable burrito rather than the pork. I loved mine! And at less than 6 dollars this will become my new goto lunch spot when on the island.

    (5)
  • J P.

We stopped in for a quick lunch taco--not out of any great hunger, but just to try them--and we thought it was pretty good. I had a shredded chicken soft taco in a white corn tortilla, and DH had a ground beef soft taco in a white corn tortilla. Friendly, helpful gals at the counter too.

    (4)
  • Jean-Paul B.

It was so so - crispy tacos were blah except for the fish taco that was good. Most everything is pre-fab and not fresh. They charged extra for hot sauce, and two bucks for ghetto costco corn chips. That was no bueno.

    (2)
  • Homer O.

had the 3 meat burrito, with all the other stuff they put in there, i did ask the girl what's your biggest burrito, and she gave it to me. might have been 3+ lbs, don't know, but i do know it took awhile to eat and left me very full. was tasty from one end to the other. search this place out, eat a fat one, then watch TV, can't do anything else.

    (4)
  • Tiffany S.

Yummers for sure! We walked in all salty from snorkeling all day and starving! It took a while to decide because everything looked so good! Needless to say we gobbled our tacos and burrito in 2.5 seconds! Delish!

    (4)
  • J B.

Decently good burritos. Very fair price point. Fast service. If you need food on the go, this is a good stop.

    (3)
  • Amanda C.

Went here multiple times on our trip. It was that tasty. Personal preference but their crunchy tacos were better than soft tacos. But they were both really good. Their kalua pork and fish tacos were really good! If you like some spice, make sure to get jalapeno or habenaro sauce on your tacos. Their burritos are good too, a person in our group thoroughly enjoyed the fish burrito. I also ordered the barnyard burrito, it was huge. I'd recommend the tacos more though. Very good tacos and a must go :) Tip: You can call in and order for pickup. We did it on our way to the airport so we had a tasty lunch!

    (5)
  • Kathy A.

The Kailua pig on the taco salad was delicious! The fish tacos & burritos great! They were pretty quick serving. The line was continual. It is located in an industrial area, which was unusual. Nice people!

    (4)
  • Jacquelin S.

The food was good and the burrito was quite filling. The employees however, were a little rude. We arrived about 6:45 p.m. and wanted to eat there. There are a few tables and bar stools for dining. After we were seated the two employees started mopping the floor and then piling all the chairs and tables up for the evening. I was concerned we were keeping them from closing. We felt rushed and left a little after 7 p.m. On leaving I checked their business hours. The evening we were there was posted as being open until 8 p.m.

  • Joan T.

Sorry, five stars for Mexican are reserved for El Cholo's in Los Angeles, CA. Killer Tacos? Yes, they are. Truly a tucked away little place. Great Mexican food. In Hawaii, no less. As good as the best taquerias in the Denver area, where we live. Wonderful food. Teensy place in an industrial area. We love it!! The most inexpensive place by miles that we ate at while on the big island. And delicious!

    (4)
  • Erin S.

Seriously the best tacos around!!! No credit cards though, so remember to take cash

    (5)
  • Steve S.

Killer tacos is pretty darn good, especially since there is no good Mexican food on the whole island. I have tried many of the other spots with the results usually ending in the belly gurgles. Give it a try CASH only! There is a ATM with 2 dollar truncation fee.

    (4)
  • Jeremy S.

I was so thankful to find Mexican food in Kona. The Habanero sauce that you can get on a burrito or taco is excellent if you like hot food.

    (5)
  • Dennys P.

This place rocked. Found it by accident. Super cheap and tons of local flavor. A must for anyone visiting the big Island.

    (5)
  • Mark B.

Very yummy. Looks/tastes a bit more "chain-like" then they look. Thought I was walking into a neighborhood hidden gem. Felt a little more like your local suburban strip-mall taco chain.

    (3)
  • Mais S.

This place is super affordable! You gotta try Killer Tacos even if you have money to burn elsewhere. The food is very good and service is quick soon as you get through the line just like any cafeteria style place (e.g. Chipotle on the mainland). Try pork tacos or taco salad. Muy delicioso!

    (5)
  • Sandra L.

Tacos were pretty good, but how bummed was I to see on the menu "Made with Alaskan Cod" when we could basically see the ocean out the window. I left a little disappointed, but with both my belly and wallet full. Cheap eat for the big island.

    (3)
  • Josh A.

I thought this was pretty good food. It was like a Qdobas or Moe's, but better. I had the Kalua pork burrito, which was pretty large and good. The prices were very affordable, which in HI, is something to seek out. The people that worked there weren't overly friendly, kind of distant. I tried to make jokes and get them to talk, and it was like pulling teeth. Go for the food, not the stellar service.

    (4)
  • Kaius G.

Killer taco would get 5 stars if they knew how to wrap a burrito. Other than having to eat my burrito off my lap and then with a fork, this place is the bomb. Off the touristyville path, a great place to eat. Very reasonable prices and delicious food! Will be back for sure!

    (4)
  • Miguel M.

The food is filling, inexpensive and fresh, though not particularly authentically Mexican in flavor. Overall, it's a reasonable option and I will continue to eat there occasionally. Their fish tacos (with raw cabbage, not lettuce) are the single best thing on the menu, though the longboard burrito is what I order most based on overall value. The salsas are just ok, though their habanero salsa packs a moderate heat. The guacamole varies from pretty good to bland and pasty, but that's probably because they source their avocados locally.

    (3)
  • Pete F.

Good inexpensive eats in an otherwise expensive town. Whenever we make the inevitable Costco or habitat for humanity run we pop in here for a filling meal. I like the veggie burritos, my wife likes the fish.

    (4)
  • Fred M.

Good, kind of cheap, but not particularly impressive. The pork is excellent, and deserves to be in a taco. The spicy ground beef is not spicy, the spicy salsa relies too much on the "biting" kind of spicy as opposed to the more flavorful spices you get at real Mexican / Latin restaurants. The taco salad is mediocre, bordering on downright dull and, according to the 3 people who had it with us, pretty eager to get out. At the end of the day, this is a good place for a quick bite that's fairly inexpensive ... but not on par with true taquerias.

    (2)
  • Karen N.

They did not have what I consider a real taco!

    (1)
  • Neil W.

We ate the special which was 2 tacos and a medium drink which was a special for $5.39. The tacos were really crunchy and good.

    (5)
  • Tommy L.

    Killer burritos also!!

    (4)
  • Chuck T.

Great little secret hidden away. Its more of a locals place but for tourist who stumble upon it. Its worth it. Very cheap, very filling.

    (4)
  • evan f.

This is essentially a not particularly cheap version of Chipotle with a few changes. The salsa was indeed nearly flavbourless as noted, and they do close early. There are no real tacos on the menu, and the food is only vaguely reminiscent of Mexican. That said, it fills a niche--cheaper than a nice place, quick, filling, and close to 3 major dive shops. We'll probably go there again, but only if we're in the neighbourhood and are hungry--it's definitely not a destination.

    (2)
  • Rob O.

We tried the fish tacos, the kalua pork and the chicken tacos. In general, everything was quite good with fresh ingredients. Was a little disappointed that the tacos were not mahi, ono, or some other locally caught fish (fried cod was their choice). Also surprised that there were no free refills on the fountain drinks. May go back and try the burritos today!

    (3)
  • Andrew B.

Asked a local where the best kalua pig could be found and he recommended us here. Out of every restaurant on the Kona coast, I never would have thought to try a taco joint in an industrial area, but the food was delicious! Hands down the tastiest pork I have had to date and great portions! You have to try them out of you are in the area!

    (5)
  • Blake A.

Nice, but not spectacular burritos. Mostly I love this place for good food at a surprisingly reasonable price. They don't take credit cards, so you have to pay the ol' fashioned way!

    (4)
  • I Be E.

if youre from LA, you wont find this place that impressive. we have legit mexican food in our backyard. this was trying to be mexican, but in a fusion way which didnt really work for me. it's not bad. the burritos are filling and tasty, but it just wasnt what i expected it to be. they are a little confused of what they want it to be. hawaiian? mexican? fusion? hard to say.

    (3)
  • Carolee H.

the best on the big island...don't miss it!!!

    (5)
  • Emily Y.

The tacos are ok, but not as great as the guide book promised. You can definitely find tastier kaluah pork elsewhere on the island. And maybe it was just the batch of taco shells we got, but they were a bit burnt-tasting. Try some other place if you're craving mexican.

    (3)
  • Zan M.

the best burrito ever!!! kalua pork yum yum...

    (5)
  • Laura R.

The food is good with a Hawaiian twist. Not traditional Mexican food. The chips could better. Out of the way locale, was never crowed when we were there.

  • sammie M.

My husband and I were excited to try these "killer" tacos when we read about this place in the blue book. We could not believe this place got an ok rating from anyone. The salsa was completely tasteless and the fish was like bad frozen supermarket fish sticks (as someone put it nicely). Is this an island surrounded by fresh fish??? If there is no good mexican food on this island then so be it..... go eat another cuisine.

    (1)
  • Kir U.

Delicious hard tacos. The kailua pig was so good.

    (4)
  • Ro H.

good, cheap, fast mexican food - we loved eating here, or taking it to go while we were visiting the Big Island. The burritos are HUGE and I loved the kalua pork. My daughter loved the tacos - crispy and not too spicy. My husband loved the fish tacos but wished the salsa was hotter so we bought some of his favorite kind at the supermarket and he just added it as needed. We just couldn't get enough of this place. Sure, its a tiny taco joint in a strip mall and parking was iffy, and there was no bathroom. But we didn't eat here for the ambiance. Just for the great food served fresh & fast, which was WAY better than any fast food in the area. We remember Killer Tacos fondly and can't wait to go back there for lunch.

    (5)
  • Lauren M.

Good for the Big Island. There really isn't enough Mexican food out there so if you're looking for a burrito or tacos this is the place to go.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
