Island Naturals has sort of become my second home! I work just around the corner and often go there once a day....and oftentimes twice! The employees are SO NICE, friendly and helpful. Most of them know my name, which is such a great feeling. They all go out of their way to help you if you cant find something. Hawk in the deli/smoothie bar area is a real sweetheart! He is always willing to go the extra mile to answer a question, check if an ingredient is in stock, offer you a taste of a smoothie if there is extra etc. April in the nutrition and body care department is not only sweet, she is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to heath!!! She always seems to know the latest and greatest products and always has a smile and friendly attitude. Rica in the checkout line is one of the friendliest people you would ever want to meet and she is always aware of when there are long lines, calling for back up right away. The guys in the produce section are super cool and I love how they stock the shelves in a beautiful way. Just the other day I was offered a slice of watermelon to taste before I bought a whole one....sweet! The food selection is fantastic with a great bulk food and produce section, the deli bar is great and makes a wonderful choice for quick and easy lunches on the go. I cant recommend this health food store enough!!!!!!

Big Island's Whole Foods with a more local twist! My moms a vegetarian so it was nice to find a place that offered not just salad options but also vegan and gluten free entrees. My dad and I are omnivores and enjoyed the hot food entrees they had to offer as well! Price is by pound of food so really good deal! Lots of people were also ordering their fruit smoothies, we'll definitely give that a try next time we swing round!

It's true that it's not Mana in Paia on Maui, but it's gotten a lot better (more diverse selection and better produce) in the past few years and it is far and away the best place for food in Kona that we've found. The new section on Hawaiian grown food/items is nice. I wish they had a better meat and fish selection.

I very rarely leave a negative however here the employee was completely unfriendly. We spent over $100.00 on a variety of items only to get back to our condo and find out: 1) our turkey bacon expired in May of 2014 2) our licorice had been opened, was missing 2 pieces and worse, was stale. 3) our little bottle of maple syrup cost ...TWENTY TWO DOLLARS! Such a cute store and a big selection too but, boo! for old food, opened packages and high prices.

I go here a lot. Because I am vegetarian it sort of is the main game in town. There are many things that shine about this business: the salad bar and prepared deli items are great. The organic and humanely raised dairy at least exists, though I hope will grow more with time. Locally raised veggies and herbs are delicious, fresh and always a good variety. The maintenance, merchandising, and buying elements of the store are spot-on. Clean space, good variety of products. The beauty/shampoo type stuff is great. Nice selection of vitamins and other alternative products you can find nowhere else. Prices are not bad. Some things expensive, but the ones that you would expect-- and remember: this is Hawaii. There is one manager or keyholder, wish I knew his name, a blonde, friendly, energetic guy who is excellent with customer service and really should be promoted if he hasn't already. Many of the other associates, and sad to say even a couple of the managers would truly benefit from some customer service and systems training. Intended purely as constructive criticism, they don't need to be cheerleaders or anything -- the friendly hippie-chick aesthetic is just fine by me-- but too often I have been in here and been talked over by two associates finishing a conversation, ignored while a manager trained a staff member on something, or lulled into a narcoleptic stupor while someone who seems to be half asleep themselves rings me up. I like this store and want to see it succeed. I will change this to 4 or 5 stars, when they visibly work on their front of the house demeanor and service a bit more: start with that young blonde kid. He's fantastic.

Megan at the cosmetic center was extremely helpful for me today. She approached me while I was browsing through the vitamin isle to see if I needed any help. Not only was she very knowledgeable about the my skin concerns but she was also sweet and friendly.

So where is the Aloha Spirit? I've been living here for over 10 years and have yet to feel welcome at this "local" deli. I usually get my fruit and veggies from the farmers markets, cold cuts and bread from the grocery stores. Voila-- a tasty sandwich to take to the beach. But once in a while, I want to spoil myself; have a freshly made sandwich with lots of interesting ingredients. Or pick up some local honey or pink sea salt. So, I resign myself to coming here. No complaints about the food and groceries-- there is a well curated collection for all tastes. But the workers are the most bored, stuck up, unfriendly hipsters I have ever seen! They make the New York deli employees seem absolutely charming-- like Disney cast members --compared to these arrogant puss faces. Yeah, you're really cool-- working in a deli, earning the big bucks, looking down on the locals. I suggest the owner of the Island Naturals hire someone to give the employees some Aloha training. A smile, a friendly hello, a courteous "thank you" would go a long way to improving customer service and customers returning. And my guests visiting from the mainland will be steered somewhere else.

Thank the lord for this place. The best coffee the best food, for me it felt like I was still home in Berkeley. Great selection of supplements and organic food. Remember to bring a grocery bag. And try their coffee, just their house coffee. ..seriously some of the best on the island. I feel grateful to be a California girl. I was worried when I came to Kona that I would have to sacrifice my organic vegetables and fruits, grass fed meats and paraben free cosmetic needs. Thanks to this store, it felt just like home.
(5)J S.
We came here to get some fresh do it yourself salad since we felt like we haven't had any vegetables what so ever since arriving on the big island besides fries. I was looking forward to some greens but when we arrived at 530, all the food was already put away. I think they close at 7, so I was really disappointed. The only thing we could get was a premade kale salad with nuts and cranberries for $6 in a small container. It was sweet, which I don't like. Point of eating greens is to be healthier, not overload it with a sugary dressing.. Small store with organic products, and it makes me appreciate trader joes and whole foods a lot more.
(3)Nicola L.
Fantastic taro burger and excellent value. Blackforest cake was pretty good - you get a huge piece! Would've liked it a little fluffier/less dense though.
(5)Denni P.
Not Mana Foods in Paia, Maui but a close second. (Mana Foods is my uptime favorite grocer, in case you have not figures that out already). Great selection of local product made or grown on the Big Island this grocer, deli does a fantastic job in showcasing local! A huge thank you for being on the Big Island and will make this my grocer as much as I can 'afford' to. Prices are high but with respect to the quality and supporting sustainable local and organic, worth every penny.

Always a fantastic experience, at all locations. Formerly a solid daily patron at Hilo location for years, I now reside in Kona. The switch took some getting used-to, since all the stores are not cookie-cut, but have individuality, own character and flavor. Never feeling shorted of assistance or hospitality, I can not think of a time when any of the stores disappoint me. And believe me, my body is my temple so I choose wisely where I eat or shop. I'm kinda concerned for Susan K, a disgruntled reviewer below. Being that "Da Natch" is unanimously THE go-to for healthy food and snacks for Kama Aina and visitors alike, her review is on par with character suicide. I mean, if she knows that her sought-items are available cheaper and readily avilable online, then why does she continuously batter herself by patronizing "rude" (her words) staff and food that makes one sick? She says herself, "...one ill experience after another...". That is not a review. That is a drama queen writing her next episode on Yelp. I bet nothing makes her happy. Island Naturals, and the Senator, make me happy. If you have a gripe, I bet Russell would take personal interest in hearing about it. He is very approachable, friendly. His stores reflect it. The way I see it, an establishment as a "Whole", or even a household, are reflections of the top leadership. Without Island Naturals, I'd have to resort to eating from my farm haha!
(5)Carey N.
If you are from San Diego, this is a tiny Jimbo's. :) You will find all your familiar brands there. Even though it is smallish they have a great selection of organic food, including raw and vegan and gluten free. There's a small hot deli and a decent cold case. There's a neat spot of all local specialties. Not as much produce as you might imagine, but a great place to stock your condo's fridge, freezer, and pantry.
(5)Kate H.
Was visiting Big Island with my vegan boyfriend, and we stopped in this market a few times during our visit to pick up meals and snacks to keep in the hotel room. Lots of fun options, lots of local treats, and a salad/hot food bar and smoothie/milkshake bar. it's not all vegan/veg food, but there are lots of options for everyone!
(5)Jena O.
A great place for your organic needs. I stocked up on veggies, bee pollen, coconut oil and nuts. Similar to Whole Foods in thaf the prefixed foods and deli options are great, lots of vegetarian, vegan and carnivore friendly options. Also a great wine selection. My only issue was the minimal meat selection. Little variety, and although grass fed - little organic options.
(4)Jessica G.
This store has a good selection for Kona. Yes it's pricy but you are buying some products being shipped to an island & you are supporting local. I love stopping by for their breakfast bar and picking up things I might need for the day. The staff that I've interacted with were friendly and answered my questions to the best of their knowledge. I'll continue to shop here.
(4)Ryan B.
Being one of the only natural food stores on Kona side it gets a lot of attention for good reason. While most of my visits are for the hot bar food, which is consistently very high quality and fresh, with good variation and innovative culinary creations. They offer a full deli-sandwich-smoothie bar as well. The grocery prices are as expected, somewhat high, but as far as I've ever seen they do a really great job filtering out the garbage and not letting unacceptable ingredients into their products offered. You get what you pay for. They also offer a (somewhat) limited dining area to eat at with some outside seating as well. Very friendly and well-staffed there is always someone available to help you if needed. The only draw back I'm able to point out is that the parking can become filled quickly, due since this is due to the places popularity it's not all a bad thing. There are other businesses directly nearby for additional parking if necessary. Love it
(5)Dee B.
People need a reality check - health food stores are ALL expensive. This is how Whole Foods became what it is. Anyway, not really the point. This place is great for lunch time hot and cold salad bar. Especially the turkey gluten free meat loaf. YUM. On the gluten free front... TONS of options! The chocolate cake and brownie bars are my favourite.
(4)Sonal P.
Good place for vegetarian/vegan food. They are a grocery store and deli in one. They have a hot foods line, a salad bar and sandwich/wrap line that allows you to custom your order. Also there is a fruit juice area and you can pick whatever fruit combo u want out of their case. The reason I'm giving it only 3 stars is because our custom sandwich orders took over 20 minutes to make and they weren't even busy. And although the hot food was great, the sandwiches were a little bland. But there are a ton of veggie options and unique food/drinks.
(3)Juliet M.
Love this place. The hot food is awesome, and the smoothies are great. The only thing about this place is that the woman that works the smoothies is on the slowwww side. I have cancelled my smoothie order twice at lunch bc I was sooo mortified at how long she was taking - doing nothing. HAHAHA...Kind of walking back and forth. ALthough poor service I usually knock my star-age down a notch, but I love this place so much I kept them at five stars.
(5)Potvor K.
Had an excellent breakfast there. Belgian waffle and florentine omelette, both recommended. Although they dont have a proper espresso machine, the quality of the beans used (local grown kona) more than made up for it in taste. The staff even heated my milk into a frothy foam so i could have my cappuccino! Great value for money. It is worth the 20 minutes drive out of Kona to come here. The view is nothing spectacular (by Hawaiian standards) but you're still able to sit outside and be surrounded by greenery.
(5)Carolyn P.
I've eaten here at the hot food bar a couple times now. It's a little pricey at $8.99/lb. but I guess that's what heathy food costs. Good variety of organic/vegetarian/vegan dishes. My favorites were the veggie lasagna, turkey meatloaf, tuna melt, and raspberry chocolate cake ;) Great selection of organic foods and specialty items in the market.
(4)Tina T.
Basically, the store sells organic stuffs, nice & clean. I found a vanilla plant there! It's very rare & I love plants:) Lucky to stop by!!!!!
(4)Sarah S.
Best veggie sandwich on the island. Smoothies are wonderful too. Grocery costs are pretty high, too high for me to shop there, but as a treat it's a lovely spot with friendly staff.
(4)Sutra L.
We recently mentioned you in our lifestyle blog sutralifestyles.com/mai-… Check out our photo journal and favorite aspects of Island Naturals! We love visiting the Kona location and trying out new things at their amazing Smoothie and Hot Bar!
(5)T L.
Love this market!! It's your island "Whole Foods" but local style. Their deli makes delicious and wholesome sandwiches and yummy smoothies.
(5)Ralph R.
We were on our way to the Green Sands Beach near South Point Hawaii. The rest of the family already grabbed something to eat for breakfast at Kona.. I was the only one who hadn't eaten.. I hoped to find a nice spot along the way to the beach. When I spotted this place, I pulled over and was genuinely surprised by the wonderful options I discovered inside. The Breakfast Burritos (potatoes wrapped in flour tortillas) were awesome. They also serve several gluten free options.. (which was great because my son has gluten allergies).. they made him a custom deli sandwich on gluten free bread as he checked off the desired items on their order sheet. He has never been given such top shelf custom treatment from any food establishment before.. so this was a real treat! Very friendly staff and great food.
(5)Ashlee W.
Large selection of natural products. Had what I needed, kukui nut oil. :o)
(4)Kara M.
Man, we sure wish we'd found this place earlier in our trip! Lots of organic selections, a good selection of natural/healthier sunscreens and a good bulk section. It wasn't the best natural food store I've ever been too, but certainly worth a stop for good, healthy selections compared to Safeway, KTA. It's a bit tucked away from the main tourist area/main shopping areas, but worth finding. I would also recommend it over Kona Natural Foods, which is in the same shopping center as Safeway, and doesn't have nearly the selection, deli or produce selection of Island Naturals. Another bonus was the fresh foods deli, which would have been a great option for healthy lunch (and probably not much more expensive than other restaurants on the island!!).

Overall: A very limited grocery store with some organics I'm always on the hunt for organic produce/groceries and before we arrived in Hawaii, we did some research and knew there were a few "natural" markets - Island Naturals Market being one of them. This place is pretty easy to find with its own car lot. They have a very small variety of organic produce, with the most exotic fruit being melon!!! There were no breadfruit, pineapples, coconuts, papaya or even kiwis! They also have a bulk section with both organic and conventional items and include starches, lentils, nuts and dried fruits etc; an ethic aisle, toiletries and a _VERY_LIMITED dairy, meat and bakery section. Island Natural Market also do a deli service - with hot food, including items such as lasagna, veggies and a salad bar. I was a little dissapointed, but still managed to pick up a few items for salad. We picked up the equivalent of about 1.5-2 bags of groceries, which came to a total of more than $100! Additional note: Service here is very poor, they're rude and during our checkout, the assistant didn't make eye contact or even speak to us, other than to tell us how much the total was!
(3)Oh Y.
The hot deli is pricey. Well, let me qualify that. If you are into eating 3 lettuce leaves and a teaspoon of shredded cheese for lunch, it's very affordable. Cheap, even. Alas, they charge by the weight of your plate. With one slice of turkey meatloaf, a salad and some chili-tofu, my plate was $10. I guess I could look at it as an investment in my health; in that case it's a 5 star establishment. They don't take checks so be sure to have cash, debit or credit for your next lettuce leaf adventure. There is an upstairs dining area with a panoramic view of the store, so if you lose your wandering relative you can climb up there and yell "Hey! Tita! Where you stay????!" ...they have a clean restroom and a nifty used bookstore next door.
(3)JeiNice H.
Lilikoi Cheesecake - dee ri shous. Beeswax candle I picked up burns nice and bright. Store has a little bit of everything. Cashier too cool to be cheery.
(4)Jene' G.
Great hot deli and salad bar. Vegan and vegetarian options. It might be a bit pricey BUT my health is worth every penny and this tastes soo good! ;) Several stores on island. Indoor and outdoor seating. Very consistant with the food quality and u can order a homemade sandwich/ wrap and smoothies :) good selection of bulk and health food and product items... Try the vegan scones and the Buddha Bars... Vegan snickers in my opinion! Mmmm... They're great!! They will also order and find items that you want if you just ask! super Ohana feel! love it! :)
(5)Mary B.
Love this place, giving it only 4 stars as parking was not great. Food was good, I eat from the food bar twice, fresh and good. It reminds me of Whole Foods on the mainland. Similar dishes. Had a smoothie here, that was great, but a little over priced. Good away of food and drink.
(4)Patricia C.
Would def. go back here for take out sandwiches on the way to the beach or hiking. Friendly staff, good selection & the vegetarian sandwiches are great (hubby had a roast chicken sandwich that he said was excellent as well). Tasty!
(4)Erin S.
Great selection for a small store. They also have an awesome deli with hot prepared food...awesome!
(4)Krishna N.
Awesome place. Their prepared foods are excellent. (prices are a bit high)
(4)Starrgirrl B.
We found this place while shopping at Kona Bay Books (they share a parking lot). Prior to shopping here we had experienced a bit of sticker shock by the prices at the local KTA grocery story ($5 for a bag of Kettle chips and $4 for a bag of pretzels). We couldn't believe it when we discovered that Island Naturals Market had better prices than the grocery stores (same Kettle chips were on sale for $1.99 a bag). The store is clean & they have a great collection. They have a hot food bar, salad bar & deli. They also have a nice selection of prepared foods & baked goods. If you're looking for healthier choices to take back to your hotel or condo, definitely check them out! Total bonus - the day we were there they had their monthly Customer Appreciation Day and we saved 15% off of our bill!
(5)Erin D.
This is just what I was looking for - Organic produce and health food. Travelling with a toddler and finding good food for them can be tough. This place was perfect for that! They had containers of their homemade hummus, gluten free selections, as well as, a good variety of salads, vegan and vegetarian dishes. Is it pricey? Of course it is, it's Hawaii and healthy organic foods like this are even expensive at home so I went there prepared to pay good $ for good food for my toddler because her health is worth it.
(4)Amy M.
Great market to stop in to really shop or for just a snack!! I had a homemade Mac nut white chocolate cookie which was delicious and SOOO worth the money!! I would highly recommend stopping in to this place!!
(5)Melissa B.
I was around the corner doing laundry when I stumbled upon this gem. They have tons of organic food options! I'm visiting from Los Angeles. Mahalo!
(5)Pismole T.
2 stars now for you, after couple phone calls from Lucy yesterday , I felt so much better . at least there are some prompt response from the management. please improve ....improve ... improve...the quality of service to your customer to back up all your great selections of products. I m still traumatized of being treated rudely by your employee. so for now I will stay away. and I will send my dad to shop there.
(2)Amanda C.
Soo glad I found this place on yelp. I'm vegan and mostly raw and this place had so many options!! Was here about a month ago and went here almost every day. Loved how they had exotic fruit and dehydrated fruit (especially the bananas!!!!). They also had some yummy raw desserts. This place did remind me of a mini whole foods store and I was grateful they had two locations on the island
(5)Nicholas H.
Awesome natural foods market with tons of gluten-free and dairy-free items which made my visit to the Big Island a really happy experience! In addition to all the normal packaged items that I was looking for (Earth Balance, So Delicious Coconut Creamer, Bob's Red Mill gluten-free products, etc.), there were hand-made gluten-free vegan scones that were unbelievably delicious! Already craving them now that I'm back on the mainland!
(5)Donna B.
Island naturals is the best place on the big island to eat for the price. After asking numerous people for a good place for a vegetarian and pescatarian to eat, we finally found someone who was helpful. He said his wife spends a LOT of his paycheck at island naturals and directed us there. The lady trolley driver was SO helpful in getting us there, and it was SO worth the hour drive on the trolley and the five minute walk from the international market! Best meal we have had since we got here four days ago. Can't wait to go back!!!!!!'
(5)Mara M.
I have been shopping here for over 5 years and am a very happy customer. It is always a pleasant experience for me and I have always been greeted by friendly workers who are helpful and kind. For those of us with food allergies, this place is one of the only places I can find healthy, fresh, delicious food at. Their quality and variety of foods, drinks, and supplements are hard to beat. The prices for some items are higher compared to those of the larger corporate companies, which is understandable with high importation costs. It does always makes my day when I get $5.00 off for using my Island Naturals rewards card :-) Aloha!
(4)Joe F.
Breakfast, lunch or dinner is wonderful from the Hot and cold food bar. Shopping is better than any other market on the island! Almost everything is Local, and fresh. Informative pleasant employees full of aloha!
(5)Kezo N.
da Island Natural is dakine kine health eatery in Kona, I've been to both Locations, the one at Manago and the main venue in Kona, the food bar is ono delicious'oh'so plenty variety and salad bar as well, in the fridge there is heaps of packaged bento box kine grind'zee....it's small by contrast to places like Whole Food back on da MainLand but can't beat for freshness and organic stuff, peeps are friendly and helpful, so every chance i'm in da area of a Island Naturals i'm there, perps complain about expense but what the hey, you don't get grub like this here on da island's...it's dakine kine!!!!!!
(5)Amy C.
This is the equivalent of a Whole Foods back on the mainland, but on a smaller scale. Like its name, Island Naturals sells organic, natural, gluten free foods and products. I came here with my hubby as my father-in-law was requesting us to bring him some Noni Icy Heat Lotion. Unfortunately, they were out of it. But the staff we encountered when we were there were very helpful and friendly. Like Whole Foods, Island Naturals also has ready made food, salads, sandwiches etc. It is a great place to grab some food if you are on the go. BTW, they also carry Les Menehune Kitchen Gourmet Jams and Butters. This brand is OMG delicious! I first tried their jams and butters at the Hilo Farmers Market last year and got to meet the owner. You must try the Passion Fruit Butter. It is to die for! I am so happy they sell it here because now I don't have to drive all the way out to Hilo to get it! :)
(3)Wendy S.
Such a great find! Local and organic products plus prepared food. I came here looking for biodegradable sunscreen and, of course, walked out with half a dozen other things.
(5)Guy T.
0 stars! Place has heaps of potential but not management nor bottom line employees to back the amazing products. I went in for a cold espresso and a sandwich from the deli only to be intentionally over charged by the supervisor for a latte solely due to the fact that I wanted a splash of milk over my 4 shots. I called the GM Eric and he apologized and gave me a gift card, nice of him. The next day I received about the same treatment from a young guy who worked there so I gave the drink back and proceeded to walk out with my sandwich when I reached the parking lot I saw the supervisor from the previous day coming into work and she an her bf proceeded to openly harass me right in the parking lot I'm assuming because she was talked to about her actions. I've since been harassed openly in the parking lot by these same individuals even after talking to the assistant gm Miranda. They have no plan to correct these actions and strongly oppose the promotion of aloha in their store. It's a true shame and I only hope I'm the only one that has and will be treated like this though I'm sure I'm not :[ I went back in today and since I wrote this review Eric decided to refuse service to me and my friend indefinitely just for writing this review, beware this place is epically disastrous! They reserve the right to refuse service to people that reserve the right to warn people of their harassing ways! Aloha!
(1)FoodAlchemist C.
I shop there a lot in the past. I just feel my money would be spent better else where. Rebecca one of the managers there is disrespectful young lady. I thought this was one time deal and maybe she was having a bad day. Every time I am in there she is rude and I have reported her to supervisor there. That was a waste of time. So yes this food selections are good but customer service by Rebecca and management is not good. Spend your money some where else. The other cashier and employee are wonderful and helpful.
(2)Bruce H.
Great service but inconsistent product availability. You go sometimes and an item they carried last month isn't there any more. Some items crazy expensive. Example rice milk. $3.49 at foodland is $6.99 here. But they have the best gluten free selection in Kona. Just wish they were more fair on price and consistent in stock.
(3)Susan T.
We ate and shopped here a couple of times while on island. Great choice for something quick and freshly cooked or a raw organic salad. The prices are a bit high, but we found that throughout the island for food
(5)Monika S.
I used to say my first two stops on the Big Island were Costco and Ceviche Daves, Since Dave's is gone, it has been happily replaced by Island Natural's. OMG what an awesome find. Their fresh produce varies by season (it was OK in April) but their "to go" options were amazing! Curry chicken salad, quinoa salad, all kinds of rice blends; all of them were really good, super satisfying and made on the premises. Prices are probably a little high for the average tourist, but considering it is organic and fresh (two words not often found on the Big Island) it is worth the money. The large container of curried chicken was about 6 bucks and fed both of us for lunch. If you are staying in a condo this is a must stop for filling your fridge. Everyone was super friendly and the market is well stocked on all the basics. A little bit of SF on the Big Island.
(4)Megan K.
Stopped in here by chance when looking for a quick stop-over to grab sandwiches for the road. We ended up each getting the turkey wrap in the pre-made deli section. Much better than you would expect from simply grab-and-go deli fair. The turkey was delicious- really made the sandwich. Left us with that full yet healthily-satisfied feeling. Reasonable prices (7.99 a sandwich).
(4)Sheena E.
SO EXPENSIVE!!! They have a good selection of really healthy stuff which I love, but really...people just can't afford to pay $7 for butter alone. I got a few items just to cover us for dinner. I would love to come back but I would need to save up more money next time we come here on vacation just to shop here.
(3)Drew B.
If you like to spend lots of money for some average vegetarian stuff, This is your place. If you like a good value then this may not be your cup of tea. Had lunch here and only because I was a guest did I eat. The one saving grace of the meal was the Veggie Chili. They even managed to make cheesecake taste bad, how does that happen. Anyway If you need some fish oil capsules then stop by but if you want to have a good lunch, don't do it.
(2)Brooke D.
My favorite place to eat in KONA!!!
