Best Mole Poblano on the island, absolutely no question about that. Also, the salsas here are pretty much the best on Maui (for a restaurant)

I was craving nachos so I decided to give this place a try. What a let down. I can honestly say they were the worst nachos I have ever had in my life. Absolutely horrible. The chicken on them was moist but the chips were a sog fest. You couldn't even pick up a chip. Plus if you did find a crunchy chip it was stale. They gave me not even a tablespoon each of pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole on the side. It was a joke. Las Pinata's has the best nachos so far that I have tried on Maui. Fred's are good if you want an Americanized version. These were so bad I will not even consider giving there other food a try. Plus they are expensive.

This place is located in a small food court, we came to grab something to eat before leaving the island. There was the choice of Vietnamese sandwich place (I'd rather just go to Westminster) or L&L (I was plate lunch'd out) or Mexican!! Yum!! Mexican! That's one thing that was lacking in Maui...the mexicans! Perhaps it's cause I'm so use to being around the people and the food! I was really craving for a burrito! This place was pretty busy and they had everything on the menu. I ordered an al pastor burrito and it came with some beans and rice. The people who ran the place were all Mexican so I felt a little home sick and at ease all at the same time. It looked like they had a lot of locals and regulars because they all knew the cook in the back. The rice and beans were decent. The burrito was okay. The meat reminded me BBQ pork in the steamed buns...on the sweeter side and it had the same color. It was different and not exactly what I thought it would be... But not bad. I'm sure there has to be better Mexican food on this island and when I come back one day that will be my mission. All in all, fernando's was not too shabby, A-OK in my book. It is what it is.

We came in before heading to the airport. And I was excited to see the day's special was Chicken Mole, one of my favorite dishes. My husband and I shared the mole plate, along with some chips and guacamole. The chicken was shredded, well seasoned and moist. The mole sauce was a tad sweet with a kick, so yummy. Then it was served with beans and mexican rice that were good. It also come with three warm tortillas. It was a large meal, so with the chips and guac it was enough to share. The guacamole was pretty good. But didn't taste very fresh. I'm basically giving it 4 stars for the Chicken Mole dish. Next time i'm visiting I may call to see when they'll have it again. It's not an everyday menu item.

Last stop before flight back to LA. Decent shredded chicken in the soft tacos and good guacamole. Nothing like my favorite Tacomiendo on Gateway in WLA but good for an island pretty far from Mexico.

I tried them all, and this is the best Mexican Food on Maui. I like Maui Tacos, but Fernando's is more authentic. They make a killer torta sandwich, a huge taco salad, and the best carne asada tacos, like the ones you get from street vendors in Mexico. Not overpriced and good size portions.

Food is actually good however there prices are ridiculous! They charged us $10.50 for carnitas quesadilla but the menu said $8.99. Then I asked what the $1.00 random charge was on the receipt and they said for the carnitas. So they double charged us for the carnitas. $2.50 for a soda and $3.00 for just chips. A total rip off.

Slim pickens on Mexican food here. The Carne Asada was not the deliciousness I am used to but I am a California girl. The chile relleno is why I give the place three stars because that dish is absolutely delish! Their chips were too oily and the fresh salsa bar could use some freshening up.

Their Carne Asada Torta is my favorite! They are my go-to place when I'm craving Mexican food.

My family comes here often and we always get the Molcajete with double al pastor pork. Its about 70% of the time DELICIOUS and 30% a miss. I'm not sure why.... but its delicious enough times that we always get it anyway. My sister has tried a few other things like the chile relleno and that was really tasty too. I also appreciate that when you order a side of sour cream or guacamole that they give you a hefty serving. For a long time i wouldn't order a side of either because i thought it was over-priced. That was all over once I saw the heaping scoop of sour cream heading for our table :) Score! The service can be slow at times and we've had an inept waitress or two who would forget we existed for vasts amount of time. where they went with only 15 people in the whole restaurant... who knows. thank god i was with good company every time or else this would've altered my rating. It is located next to Sears, not in the food court... perhaps it was once located there and then branched out.

In a small mall with pier one imports, petsco... Smelled great while we waited for the food but never got to order. The line was moving at a snails pace. I'll be back if its still open in a few months. I gave it 3 stars cause the food that was being eaten by some people looked great and they looked to enjoy it and the prices are reasonable.

The food here is terrible, i enjoy good mexican food and this place is not good mexican food. honestly i would have rather had Taco Bell for dinner. The waitress had nothing but attitude when ever we asked a question. I would never go here again...this place deserves zero stars.

i used to have drinks and apps at Fernando's quite a bit - no more - they just started charging 3 bucks for the chips - which had ALWAYS been free - owner is getting greedy apparently.

This is the best Mexican food restaurant that I know of on Maui! The food had fantastic flavor. I've had the Fish Taco's combo, the Carne Asada soft taco's and they made a Camarones Diabla (Devil Shrimp) burrito for me! They have a plate called Devil Shrimp and I asked them if they would make it into a burrito for me and they did! It was so good, that's my favorite meal now! The prices are decent and the service is ALWAYS fast and courteous! The salsa bar is very reliable as the variety is always vast and the bowls are always full. I love the carrots/onion/jalepeno mixture they offer on the bar as well. Great place, eat here, I recommend it to all!

As you know from reading my reviews of Mexican in Hawaii----there aren't a lot of good options. Fernando's is by no means 'authentic' Mexican food but it is tasty, fresh, and a great value for the amount of food you get. On Maui, this is by far the best. The food is incredibly flavorful. The meat is high quality and cooked and seasoned well. Their prices are competitive with other restaurants on the island and their service is great. The dining room is huge so you shouldn't have to wait for a table!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
