What a waste of time and money. Waited 20 mins for a donburi & an ahi roll. Got a half full donburi & a soggy and tough hand roll. Though I'd lose my teeth during the tug of war with the nori. The prices are rediculous! $10 for an ahi maki, $14 for chirashi bowl? The owner must be on crack! Yelp: must I rate this with a star?

The place is small but never too busy! They share parking with a bunch of other places so it's hard to find parking! The service is great and the place is clean! I always order the same thing the dynamite sushi roll which is a shrimp tempura with cucumber mayo wrapped in nori and rice with spicy ahi all over it! It is pretty spicy so be careful! They also have shave ice and icee for sale which is a plus cause on a hot day I love a icee!

Looks like mediocre / cheap sushi because we all tend to judge by the exterior. Yeah, everything is in little plastic boxes but it's GOOD!!! This is the best fast food style sushi I can remember having.

Overpriced, low quality sushi. I've given this place more than one shot hoping that they could magically redeem themselves from prior visits, but they never seem to succeed. I've ordered different things from the menu hoping that I could find something actually worth getting a second time, but still no success. The only reason why I would go back is because it's less than a block away from my apartment and that I don't wanna deal with traffic. As if the quality of the food wasn't bad enough, the service is even more horrible. I've worked in the service industry for many years and having a sense of urgency was always top of mind....this is definitely not the case here. On my last visit it took me 15 minutes to get a simple 8pc nigiri set! The worst part was that I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER THERE! Unless they drop their prices or get my food to me faster, I definitely won't be going to sushi man anytime soon.

The food is okay but the service was really disappointing. I ordered a kids bento B and she gave me some other bento B ( she barely spoke English so that came into play). When I received the tray I told her it was a mistake and she refused to fix it. Good thing my daughter is not a picky eater. I ordered the family tray for my hubby and I and I noticed there were squid nigiri which I hate. I looked at the menu and saw that it should have been surf clam. I asked her to correct it and she said they were out of surf clam and I should just eat the squid! I said I hate squid but she insisted it was good for me and I should just eat it! Is she crazy? She should have offered a replacement of my choice when I placed the order. I will not be going back, even if its so close to where I live. It's a little over priced as well.

Never wanna come back here again. I have gotten sushi few times from here but salmon wasn't fresh at all and it tasted old.. Decided not to get salmon here. And this time I got Dragon maki which is eel sushi roll. There were 8 pieces but half of them didn't have eel. Just avocado and sauce on it. This can't be called dragon roll. We spent $9 for this. It's not worth it. So we decided not to go here anymore. Convenience is not enough!!

Sushi man is good if you're looking for a quick sushi fix but you don't want to go to a restaurant for it. It will satisfy your craving for donburi/rolls/hand rolls. I ordered a spicy ahi don and a red dragon hand roll. The spicy ahi don was a bit expensive ($10). I felt that this was a bit on the pricey side, especially since the serving itself isn't super big. The spicy ahi here is chunky so if you like your spicy ahi smashed up, you should check sushi co. It was also more spicy than mayo, which I liked but if you can't handle spicy, you might not like it as much. The red dragon hand roll is a cali roll with spicy ahi and for $2.49 I'd say I would have preferred to order a few of these instead. They keep the place clean and the food is decent. It's nothing special but not bad either.

This place isn't the best sushi we've ever had, but it also isn't the worst. The salmon based options are probably the best. The ahi they have is probably from younger or smaller fish. It's always really light in color. It probably has to do with cost. It's not poor quality by any means, just not now I prefer my ahi. Having said that, the rolls are good, but not something we will normally order. We've been here a few times since it's right by our house. Price wise, it's about average. Overall, we like it. As with most restaurants, there's stuff on the menu we like and stuff we don't. The Philadelphia roll is really good. I feel like Philly rolls should have a refreshing feel when eating them, and theirs do. We also recently had the California roll with spicy salmon on top. That was delicious. Definitely spicy. My biggest complaint probably? The last time I picked up dinner here, I asked for the Edamame to be warmed up. We just don't like it cold. It doesn't taste good. At first, the girl forgot to put it with my order. When I reminded her about it, she still gave it to is cold. U didn't realize it was cold until we got home. I put it in the steamer and warmed it, which wasn't a big deal. It was the fact that I ordered it, reminded her, and still didn't get it right. Oh well. We'll be back for sure. Like I said. It's nice and convenient.

It used to be good. Food was great, spicy ahi was spicy, and everything was fresh. My most recent experience there was terrible. Not only has the quality of their food gone from good to bad, but their customer service is horrible!! Never going back there again!!!
(1)Curtis C.
Average quality sushi. I don't like the fact that I leave smelling like old fryer grease... Seriously, do they ever change their oil? Their "hellfire and brimstone" religious pamphlets are also a downer. Keep your religion to yourself when running a business, or you risk alienating customers.
(2)Khara Grace M.
Dynamite Maki and shrimp tempura California Maki are really good!! The lady that makes it is really generous with the ahi she puts in top the dynamite. It also has a clean environment.
(5)Michael C.
We would have liked to have been able to review the food but I think the older gentleman worker seemed too pre occupied with his newspaper to want to turn around to take our order. He should have known that we were there because I only asked another guy if he was waiting in line so loudly. I didn't want to disturb the worker's newspaper time so we decided to leave. As we were leaving then he decided to turn around but he didn't say anything and went back to his newspaper. If customer service is this bad I would worry about the quality of the food.
(1)Amanda P.
I love the food. We always get the dynamite maki and tiger maki. I'm giving it only four stars though because the service was poor. Older man in front was very rude to me and my husband. Try smiling and being nicer to your customers.
(4)James M.
I am a frequent eater but I will honestly not eat here again. I used to go for the convenience of it since I lived down the road. I eat there about 4 times a month averaging $25-30 a time. My last experience, I ordered the nigiri bento. I bit into the ika nigiri and it was spoiled. I could taste the smell of it. Slimy and all. That goes for the ikura and tobiko. The owner also made a big deal about giving me extra ginger. I didn't have cash(mind you they have a $10 minimum for credit) and it was 30cents. I spent $30. He didn't even give me extra being that I'm a regular there. I also walked in when they (the owners) were having lunch with their friends. I waited a while for the wife to finally notice me and serve me. NOT GOING BACK AGAIN. TERRIBLE SERVICE, QUALITY OF FOOD LACKS BIG TIME
(1)Greg B.
This place is rather good. It's more of an average thing with low prices and a nice setting to sit in. I was looking for sushi to go and the cook provided it. I want to say that the sushi rolls were very nicely wrapped and tasty. Each piece had volume and lingered in my mouth well after I digested it. The menu is quite expansive and it does have a swell refrigerator with drinks in it. It's more of an average place when one is in a hurry and would like quality in a simple bento meal.
(3)Elaine W.
The ahjussi is extremely nice and his wife is even nicer! I love going there after work to fill up on some sushi. Their spicy ahi handroll is the bomb. They also have great udon and dragon rolls. If you want something small, a handroll or maybe a spam maki is good. Also super cute. They also have shave ice and icees. The only downer is that they can't change channels on the tv.
(4)Monte K.
This place is pretty good! I love their udon! And their spicy ahi hand rolls are delicious!
(4)Angel W.
Forgot about this little gem for quick sushi take out. It's quick, simple and clean. I've used them for party platters but never for a quick last minute meal. I got the spicy ahi hand roll, 3 piece salmon sushi and the shrimp tempura maki. They were out of the spider roll (my favorite no matter the location) so I was a little bummed.
(4)Greg H.
Food is good... It is take out Sushi you get reasonably prices for decent quality food.
(3)JenniLi ..
I use to live on the same block and go here weekly. I love the shrimp tempura roll, the sauce is good. Dynamite sushi too of course... Kinda wish I lived walking distance still but I will always make the drive when I can :)
(4)Puka P.
no changes in interior or tv channel preferences. I feel like the owner is never in the mood of treating the customers nicely and i would appreciate some smile or nice word, since we are regular customers and come pretty often. His wife is very polite and nice tho, I like to come when she is taking orders. the quality of sushi is still ok, the prices went up and unfortunately the price change didnt reflect on the quality or quantity of food.
(3)Thanh N.
There food is decent and cheap for sushi but definitely not a good quality sushi place. I only come here for a quick, lazy dinner only. My choices here are always Tiger Maki or Dragon roll. They make it pretty fast too. Its odd that people who own the place is all Korean...Lol. Anyway, their sushi is not that bad, it is just the ambiance of the place and the service is not that great.
(3)Lisa T.
Spent $15 for a crappy, half full unagi donburi with 6 puny slivers of unagi & a spicy ahi roll that had more mayo than the ahi & rice in it. Ninja Sushi needs to move in closer if not take over this place. I can get my Superman maki & a hand roll and still have change. I wish Yelp has the option of not giving a star... N/A would do.
(1)RJ Q.
The sushi is ok, but not for the price you pay. The last time I was there a couple of days ago, I spent almost $20 for their bento box B and their dynamite maki. The fish was fresh enough, didn't taste old or slimey. The dynamite, however, was drenched a little to much with their spicy sauce, which tasted almost like thousand island dressing. All were still edible though. The place is a bit dreary, despite the place being mostly white, and the whole look of the place seemed like the place is in its final days and they plan to make a quick escape one day. The tables seemed clean, but I don't quite know how often they wipe the tables down because I've never witnessed it. It took about 1/2 an hour to get my takeout order and I missed my bus because of that. The only reason I'll eat here once and a while is only because that it's the most closest place to get sushi in my area and only because I'm craving sushi. Other than that, there are definitely other places to get decent sushi at a far better price.
(2)Vin F.
Got the spicy ahi maki... Chee... That's some good kine grindz right there!!! Well actually, anything with spicy ahi is some bomb grindz for me!!! The spicy ahi got the right amount of kick... Chee!!!
(4)Alysha K.
Sushi Man is right down the street from where I live, so I go here often out of convenience. Compared to Kozo, Aloha, and other take-out sushi places, Sushi Man is one of the best. They serve icees and now, shave ice too! One thing is that they don't make it til you order it, so sometimes you wait a while for your food, even if you just have a small order.
(3)Alt K.
Be warned - the worst sushi I EVER had! Now I am a reasonable guy and don't like giving any business 1-star, so know that going in I was not expecting "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" type of offerings. Based on Sushi Man's pricing structure, all I was just looking for was something quick and fresh for dinner. I got there at 6pm and was the only person in sight, even still I had to wait for service and then another 20-minutes to get my order while the owner was watching TV in the dinning area. We ordered Sushi Man's nigiri platter (supposedly their best offering) for $34 and was disappointed. The ahi looked carbon treated, the salmon was dull in color - perhaps partially cooked, and the ikura was dried out and sullen. Sushi Man is also in serious need of better ventilation. Although I ordered takeout, I left smelling of a grease trap so badly that as soon as I got home my daughter says "Dad you smell like burnt oil!" - never again!

It was Thanksgiving day and we were on the hunt for some lunch! I had a weird craving for sushi and thankfully Sushi Man was one of the few places open on our national day of over consumption. We ordered an Aloha platter because we figured 43 pieces of sushi for $23 was a fairly sweet deal. The platter came out quickly, under 10 minutes and the sushi was gone in even less time than that! The only odd part of my experience was when the guy at the counter asked me if this was my platter. I looked at him, then at the platter and then at the empty room full of no one and asked him "Did anyone else order a giant platter of sushi in the last 10 minutes?" Sushi Man will never replace Sushi Sasabune but when you're looking for quick and cheap sushi in Makiki then this is the place! Sushi Man also gets bonus points for serving Icee!
(4)Gloria S.
I love their California Roll & Spam Roll! I bought one of each and it cost me $3.69 I think that's a great price compared to all the other places that I've been to. The 5 Start is for the great tasting food and affordable price! Don't expect to see ambiance here! If that's what your looking for, I suggest you drag yourself to this place order and take it back to your place, break out the candle light, nice dishes, some music or take it to the park!!

Do not come here. This Sushi Man sucks, which is sad because I love sushi and this place is literally down the road from my house. First off, the food is just ok, nothing special. The donburi is way overpriced and they only fill the bowl half way and the nori for the handrolls is always soggy. They also charge for wasabi and ginger. Seriously? Who does that? Be sure to check your take-out bag for the wasabi and ginger though. They forgot to give me mine's a couple of times even though I paid for it. Worst of all is the customer service. You'd think businesses would be nice to regular customers; well not this business. The service actually got worse each time I came in and I'm probably one of the most low maintenance customers. The last straw was over a stupid icee of all things. I ordered a strawberry & coke mixed icee, but I only got a strawberry icee (no coke). I politely told the worker that I ordered a mix of both flavors. Instead of fixing the mistake, she argues with me saying that I didn't ask for mIx. Seriously?! We stood there for what seemed like an eternity just staring at each other. After the stare off, she finally gave in and gave me what I ordered. Wth?! Wish I could give no stars.

OK the original review I wrote has actually changed somewhat for the better. No more order mistakes, sushi is actually coming out faster and today only two quiet skinny boys were eating sushi. Everyone I know who eats sushi is skinny, except me. No fair. Anyway, recommended are these handrolls: Ikura, shrimp tempura, California roll and as for the maki must tries: Spider maki (soft shelled crab) and bacon maki. Both excellent. Yes, it is still pricy and yes, the quality is wonderfully fresh so how can I bitch? At least now they have take out menus so I can decide before stepping in which works well for me. Maybe that's why my order has been "rolling" out more quickly. I don't take 12 years to decide what I want. Weird tho, not all of the items are on the menu. You gotta go in and look at the pictures like a Pavlovian dog trying to remember the difference between dragon roll and red dragon roll. One is as silent as a lamb? Only current criticism. It's hot in there with afterschool teen bodies. Phew! Turn up the air please. Even without the futting, the air inside is....well.....warm.

Sushiman, herro! (Excuse my sterotypical/racist asian spelling of hello. But I'm asian so it's okay!) My brother and I endearingly call this place: "Sushiman, herro!" It's because everytime we order take out a sweet old korean man (ajusshi) usually answers the phone and says this. We both just think its so sweet and cute! :D Honestly I just I love this place. I always get dynamite maki. I dont like my spicy ahi too chunky so the "puree" is good for me. It's seriously addicting. I think I've spent at least $150 here from buying dynamite maki :D Friendly service, and you can call in orders. It'll be ready when you get there! Avoid 2:30 - 5:00 PM when its packed with roosevelt kids coming from school.

We decided to take our dog for a walk and we came across Sushi Man, which was five minutes from our apartment. I read a few reviews including Emi's and Kim's so I was willing to give this place a shot. First I went in and was confused but the nice lady at the counter was helpful in trying to find something for me to eat and enjoy. So I ordered a couple of things she recommended like the spicy ahi and the other thing with the shrimp tempura on it... the name escapes me... read other reviews for the name. Then I sent in my husband and took over puppy duties. Eventually we ordered a few things between the both of us and headed home with our crazy puppy. We tried the sushi, it wasn't the best ever and nor did I expect it to be but it was filling, decent, and cheap. We also saw the pictures of the platters outside and they seemed very reasonably priced as well as looked tasty too. I mean seriously, we could just get a platter to share and it would be only around $20 for the both of us. SCORE =). Also, they're open pretty late on a Sunday... good times good deal yay! Food was three stars but the value knocked it up one!
(4)T K.
I had the tiger maki and the dynamite maki a while back. Their maki rolls are descent, even though they use what seems to be hard, old rice. But just recently I ordered a spider roll over the phone, among other things. When I get there, I check my order and see that the spider roll is missing. They said they ran out! Why the heck didn't they tell me over the phone?! Anyway, I ordered a fresh salmon roll instead. All I get is 1 measly hand roll rather than a maki roll. Wth! So I just gave up and left with whatever they gave me. So irritating! What's weird is the person who took my order on the phone spoke perfect English, but the people at the restaurant didn't know what I was saying! Where was this person that took my order?! So in short, don't go here for quality sushi. It's cheap, and you get what you pay for. Orders take a while, and it may be best to order in person if you have a big order that may be screwed up.

There were a few things that made me never want to go back to this place.... First was the price to quantity of food ratio. I spent over 20$ and didn't even get close to being full. I got an Unagi Donburi, because I saw a picture it, which look like a full bowl. But when I got it, the bowl wasn't even half full. Which leads me to the next thing that ticked me off was the customer service. Feeling ripped off, I asked the man at the counter if I really just paid 11$-12$ for HALF a bowl. And all he had to say was that "its expensive." No sorry, no offer of any kind, nothing. I know sushi is pricey but they take it to a whole new level. And this is the first time I ever got upset enough to complain about a restaurant on yelp
(1)Juliann C.
I used to work at sushi man when it was open at Windward mall... it was a good sushi place. :) This company is run by Koreans, but they make sushi! Their donburi's are awesome, they give alot of raw fish! Their dynamite maki is to die forr... good "fast" sushi.
(2)Liz S.
I was craving sushi within walking distance of my house and this was the closest place so this is where I decided to go. Obviously I had to get something with Spicy Ahi so I decided on the Dynamite Maki, I also love natto so I got a handroll as well. No one was there yet I had to wait a pretty long time to get my food. The cashier was really nice but sorry, that does not make up for how slow it was. When I got my food, it looked pretty delish but the Dynamite Maki was wayy overloaded with sauce, too much for my liking. The spicy ahi wasn't that spicy and the pieces were very small and chopped up. The nori around my handroll was really grainy and got stuck in my teeth which doesn't really happen ever. Overall I don't think I'll be coming here again, I'll make the trek into Manoa valley to Manoa Sushi instead.

So you know how when you have a big family get together, someone has to pick up the sushi platter? Well, if it's my grandma's turn and she ultimately makes me go pick it up, I always call Sushi Man in Makiki. Not only is it convenient for me, but the sushi is decent, prices affordable, and the staff is efficient about it. While they offer hand rolls and other smaller selections if you so desire, the platters are always what I come here for. They offer fantastic party platter selections from the simple maki/cone combination to nigiri platters or various rolls. Is the sushi the greatest? No, I can honestly say I have had better but when price is an option and volume is required, you want consistency and good, not great. Sushiman offers that. The staff are efficient, not really warm and friendly, but when I'm ordering for a party that is what I want. They are definitely nice and accommodating if they can be. Definitely call ahead if you can, cause there can be a wait at times. It's street parking or plan to park in the Makiki Village complex that it is apart of.
(4)Jill T.
WAITED TOO LONG for just one shinko maki and one crab roll. The guy/cashier didn't look like he was happy to be there. Don't sit at the table right in front of the air conditioner unless you like it to feel like you're in Alaska. The taste of the sushi wasn't that great either. Don't go here.
(1)Jenny T.
Sushi is good but it's to small and it's over price.
