We came 3 nights in a row- it was that good!. The staff are super friendly and delightful. The owner is a Thai lady who makes us feel at home and well taken care of. The menu is extensive with some dishes not found at some other Thai restaurants, such as lady fingers (won ton wrapped shrimp), evil jungle curry, and a different variety of noodle dishes. We have asked for variations from the menu, like adding kefir lime leaves and galangal in the Tom ka gha soup and it was no problem. The food is freshly made and delish. Grab a beer at the corner store (conveniently located in the same parking lot) and enjoy in the restaurant- no extra charge. Parking is no problem. The restaurant is clean, decor is simple, prices are good, portions are decent.

I give it three stars but my true feelings are "meh, I've experienced better." Pimtong had me at 10% off and free dessert on their Midweek coupon. I Jedi mind-tricked my dad into coming with me for lunch. This restaurant is located where Thai Town Cafe used to be in Kalihi (same lot as New Diners). Nothing seemed to changed from it's previous life. It was dead in there upon arrive...just like Thai Town each time I've gone in. We ordered the Sliced Beef Salad, Pad See Ew with Chicken and Eggplant with Pork. The sliced beef salad or yum tok was okay, $8.75. Beef was cooked fine and it was tender. The flavors were good but I thought it was a tad bit on the saltier side. My favorite for this dish is still Phuket Thai and Thai Issan. yelp.com/biz_photos/pimt… Pad See Ew with Chicken was $8.95. It tasted good but the noodles were overcooked. It was mushier than I would like and missing that char that I associate with fried noodles. My dad liked this one a lot but that's probably because he's old and cannot chew well lol. yelp.com/biz_photos/pimt… The Eggplant with Pork was good. Lots of tender eggplant, Thai basil and chilies to give it a kick. $8.95. yelp.com/biz_photos/pimt… I was most excited for the free dessert. It was tapioca...typical. But it was weird. I'm used to the tapioca being cooked in sweetened coconut milk but this one had its coconut milk poured on top. I had to stir it a lot to incorporate it. Beggars cannot be choosers and it was a good free dessert. yelp.com/biz_photos/pimt… Service was good because we were the only ones there for awhile. They do have a lunch combo plate that looked really good for about $10. I'm not sure if I'll go out of my way to come back, well, maybe if I had another coupon. Pimtong is worth visiting if you're craving Thai food in Kalihi.

Sketchy Thai restaurant in kalihi at 9:30pm? Yep, apparently that's where you'll find me on a Wednesday night. My brother, who loves Thai food, was in the mood for some late night curry. We decided to try this random restaurant he saw in the Sunday newspaper because it was open late. We walked into the empty restaurant (which is byob btw) and ordered the normal spread: satay, pad Thai, calamari and masaman curry. Everything was delicious, especially the pad thai. We also asked if they serve thai style mussels, which they do even though it is not on the menu. the sauce for the mussels was different than usual and I don't think I'd order it again, but the waitress really tried her best to accommodate us. The chef even came out to talk to talk to us for a bit and comped us a mango sticky rice (probably because she pitied my mom's embarrassing attempts at speaking Thai) . She was so sweet!! The waitress was a little bit of a space cadet, but she was sweet and apologetic too. The restaurant got a little busier at 10:30, but we were leaving anyway. Although my experience here wasn't exceptional, I give them an A+ for effort and good food.

Two stars actually, but the best Pad Thai I've ever had was from this restaurant which will give them a star up. I've been to Pimtong Thai Cafe twice now, and it seems like they have just taken over Thai Town Cafe and had done no changes except for the sign outside. I was craving Thai and since another place I had wanted to go to was hella packed, this became the next choice. First visit...service was TERRIBLE! I usually don't mind waiting a while for food, but not when we're one of 5 tables there...and 2 of them done eating (they had their checks)...1 of them about done and one that had been seated after me. You see, the amount of people in the restaurant did not justify my over an hour wait for my food. The worst part is that the table that had arrived after us...received their food before us. Like...seriously?! We ordered the same thing. What was even worse was that during my over an hour wait for the food...the other table that was almost done eating was apparently still waiting for one of their dishes...and then he got mad and started yelling at the waitress. The table that came after us was complaining about how their order didn't come out right. Talk about awkward! Sitting there listening wasn't my idea of a relaxing lunch. So we finally got our food. I stared at the waitress for a good 5 minutes thinking...soo...should I eat this with my hands? Yup. No utensils. As the food got colder, the chopsticks finally arrived. The only saving grace that day was that damn delicious Pad Thai. I decided to give them another chance a month later. Service was much better but still mehhh. The Pad Thai was very mediocre. Inconsistency with their food was noticeable. Mehh. I'll need to return another day in hopes of eating Pad Thai that was as good as the first time I had it here.

I liked it. The food was tasty and priced right. The staff was friendly and helpful. What more might you want? For $24 including a fairly generous tip, two grown men had their fill of delicious Pad Thai with Chicken, Pananag Curry with Pork and sticky rice for lunch today. We ordered both the dishes medium. They were probably a little milder than medium. However, without being asked the aforementioned friendly and helpful staff supplied us with a little dish of finely crushed red pepper, just in case. **Side note: a little bit of this finely crushed red pepper goes a long way, and if you use your bare fingers to add a pinch to your food (like I did) don't later use one of those same bare fingers to wipe the sweat it caused from underneath your eye (like I did). Seriously, DON'T! So, what more might you want? Wider and more plentiful parking spots would be nice but unlikely. Or more reasonably, one might want a menu that was put together MUCH less randomly. The menu was 9 pages long. Some pages were landscape. Some pages were portrait. Some pages were BOTH! There were plenty of good stuff on those 9 pages; it was just a lot of work finding it. Despite these little problems, I foresee Pimtong Thai Café becoming a regular stop for the Hickam Lunch Gang based on their serving tasty Thai food at a reasonable price. A friendly and helpful staff is kind of nice too, but for the Hickam Lunch Gang, really, it's not that much of a factor.

Seems like new owners have taken over from Thai Town Café. The good news is that they are a little better but not that much. Prices are a bit lower than most Thai restaurants. The portion sizes are pretty good. Expect to pay $7 to $10 per dish. There is a Midweek coupon for 10% off plus free dessert. We tried the tom yum, panang curry, and pad thai noodles. Tom yum was not bad, had all of the ingredients that you would expect. Very generous chunks of mushrooms, chicken (our meat of choice), onions, and tomatoes. The panang curry was too watery, had good peanut flavor, but had some subtle kaffir lime flavor which was good, a bit too sweet however. Pad thai was a bit of downer, noodles were not fully cooked and was a bit chewy. Where is the heat? We asked for medium heat for all. Again, a bit too sweet. Check your bill, they over charged us for the tom yum but thanks to my detail oriented wife, she spotted it right away. Save a buck and change there. We were the only ones there, from how things are going, unfortunately, this place won't last for long.

Friday night 6:30. Ray's Cafe closed again. Pimtong is one of my closest bookmarked restaurants. Crowded parking lot. We walk into the restaurant and no one else is in there. I silently question my judgment. My dinner companion remarks that Thai food must not be popular in Kalihi. She's so diplomatic. I am hoping the food tastes OK. We ordered and waited. No one else comes in. We got our first dish - Thai beef salad. Good, but not as good as Champa in Kaimuki. Better than Champa in Pearl Kai, though. Even so, by the end of the meal, I had finished it all. Our second dish was Pad See Ew. Many spellings of this dish exist. But it is meat (chicken, in this case) with broad noodles and broccoli in a yellow soy bean sauce. Great flavor. I would eat this every time I want a chow fun type noodle dish. Way better than any Chinese chow fun dish I have EVER had. And better than most I have had at other Thai restaurants. The sauce coats the noodles and the flavor is really addictive. A must-try dish !! The third dish was pork with eggplant and basil, with long beans added. The flavor of this dish is fantastic. My companion, who does not regularly eat rice, happily took most of the remaining jasmine rice to soak up all the flavor of the dish. After our dishes were delivered, two local couples with their 4 kids noisily dragged tables and chairs around to customize the 7 tabled restaurant to suit their configuration. One of the women knew exactly what she wanted and was polling the kids as to their choices. So some people in Kalihi do enjoy Thai food! I only hope more people try this place because the food is awesome. And to top it off, the food was being cooked by the second-string cook because the owner was in Thailand for a visit !!! Keep this place in business !!!!

Newly re-opened Thai food restaurant in this little strip mall in Kalihi. Standard fanfare of regular Thai food menu, curry, pad thai, etc. 6 tables of 4 seats each, tables & chairs were carried over from the Keawe grill that was at this location & prior to the other Thai restaurant that was here. No real lunch specials menu so it ramps up to be expensive really quick. I had the eggplant with chicken stir fry entree, a small bowl of regular rice, and a Thai iced tea set me back about $14...toss in tip and my total came out to $17!...not doing that again, especially for lunch. Seriously for them to thrive in this area they going to have to compete in the realm of less than $9 for lunch if they want to attract more customers; granted this price point is without the tea! Not sure when I'll give this place a go to round 2 yet but first round was not too impressed with the food. For my tastes, it was a bit on the salty side and I do like salty stuff! Ambiance - nothing special Service - nothing special

Vegetarians take note: Second time here. First time, the restaurant had been open a week and the cook disappeared, so they scrambled and even though we were only ones there, our food took an hour. We said no tofu, no seafood products in our Evil Jungle, but it came with tofu and anchovy in the curry sauce. Turns out only yellow is purely vegan. This is the second time here and we ordered Pad Thai which came out reeking of fish and the order took half hour. They insisted it was pure vegan, but I've never had meat or fish in my life and this smelled incredibly foreign and fishy. I will not come here again.

I watched through the door to the kitchen as they microwaved the rice for my wife's curry in a ziploc bag, and then brought that same bag to our table with our meal. The curry was OK but the rice was chewy and overcooked. The pad thai was good but I wouldn't come back to this sketchy looking place for more.

Since moving to Oahu a year and a half ago, I've been on a continual quest to find my go-to Thai restaurant, and I think I found it this week! Pimtong Thai fits all of my requirements: friendly service, clean restaurant, rich flavors at just the right spiciness, and chicken that isn't sketchy! Seriously, the sketchy chicken thing is a problem I find at the majority of other thai restaurants I've tried in town. It's inevitable that I order a dish with chicken and I end up having to pick through the pieces to eliminate the fatty and questionable bits. I just want to eat, not sort, if you know what I'm saying. Thankfully, this is not an issue here at Pimtong. I ate my chicken pad thai without having to worry about a gristly bite. And did I mention it was delish?! Also, fantastic were the panang curry with beef and yellow curry with chicken. Normally, I'm strictly a curry girl, but surprisingly my favorite dish from here so far has got to be the basil chicken stir-fry. It's made with ground chicken, bamboo shoots, onions, and a couple other vegetables and packs a TON of flavor. So rich, and don't be afraid to go spicy as it delivers a fantastic kick. Save yourself some time by not having to try every thai place in town like I have, and just go to Pimtong! You'll be glad you did!
