Awesome I get pineapple to my every order...Whoopie!! OK the first day i arrived Waikiki i ate McDonald's and had some free pineapple at first I thought it was cool, but by the second and third day and so fourth I had enough of pineapples.

My LEAST favorite McDonald's on the Island... Why, you my ask? Simply because they charge 25% more jut because of their location! McRib Extra Value Meal, regular sized, was pushing $9.57. Seriously?? I dont care if they offer free "pineapple" with every extra value meal...This place BLOWS! Additionally, service is slow and the line always moves at a snail's pace. I dont know if it's something we can blame on the tourists, but it definitely irks me.

Yaye for McDonald's breakfast in Hawaii where the menu includes spam and portugeuse sausage. Even better.....FRIED pies including banana! Yum! This is my go to McDonalds in Oahu as it is walking distance from all the Aqua hotels.

  • Kevin L.

Price upage and slow service. Loved the taro pies

  • Jason S.

Overpriced to milk money out of tourists... But that's just Waikiki. Also, if you come here after the bars close, you have a good chance of getting shot or stabbed.

Ok, so I'm yelping about McDonald's, of all restaurants! But I have to Yelp because this McDonald's offers...drum roll please: Local deluxe breakfast platter consisting of three slices of Portuguese sausage, two slices of spam, one scrambled egg, and two scoops of rice!!! All this for $5.49. Now why can't the McDonald's in the mainland offer this type of dish for breakfast? If you don't like spam, you can opt for the Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice platter for $4.49, or, if you like spam and not the Portuguese sausage, you can opt for the spam, eggs and rice platter for $4.49. Or...if you want the usual, they offer the regular menu items. As others have mentioned, the McDonald's offers FRIED apple and cherry pies for $1 each...yay! They also offer fresh pineapple chunks as healthier fare.

Not the best location of McDonald's, but it's close to the middle of Waikiki and they serve Hawaiian breakfast platters (I love Portuguese Sausage, eggs, and Rice) and Saimin. I'm a fan! :) No, there is no parking, this is for the people walking or taking the bus. Don't complain, parking is expensive in Waikiki. The breakfasts are hot and come out quick, so does the saimin. I always add two packets of shoyu since their soup is a bit bland. Does the trick for me! Whenever I stay in Waikiki, this is usually where I end up for breakfast. $4 breakfast will keep me happy! Cheers!

Back to my "remember when" tour, this place brought me back to my childhood days when we could eat fried foods without an ounce of guilt. What is this baked apple pie stuff?! How many of you remember those crispy, flaky turnovers often served so hot that your tongue singed after the first bite? This is why I searched so hard and ended up here on a lazy afternoon. Yes, on Oahu, they still serve their apple pies F-R-I-E-D! $1.00 for two? By all means... At the time, they were almost promoting a special banana cream pie. I'll take the apple one over this one, but a good change of pace option. Besides this, did you know they serve Portuguese sausage and eggs? How about Saimin - egg noodles in a clear broth with fish cakes and julienne pork with a sprinkle of scallions? In San Francisco, definitely not. Pass on the Egg McMuffin, pass on the Hot Cakes. Count me in on the local flavah!

When you had the kind of epic night that ends in photo finishes to get the vomit into the toilet your gonna need food to quell the emptiness in your stomach and absorb the remaining alcohol that hadn't been up chucked earlier. McDonalds isn't a fast food restaurant...No, not after an epic night. McDonalds is a life boat in a sloshing sea of sake....a superhero swooping down to catch me before I fall to my death... and their Deluxe Breakfast Platter which includes portuguese sausage, spam, eggs and rice is like an adrenaline shot to the heart of an OD'ing heroin junkie. Every bite charges my power meter a little bit and by the end of the meal I'm at least half-way alive and have enough energy to function for the rest of the day. With this McDonald's strategically located across the street from the hotel I was staying at, I was spared the arduous task of hiking Waikiki alleyways to find some grub. I thank you McDonald's, for all the times you've helped smooth out my rough nights and filled my raw alcohol soaked gut with processed goodness. You are more than a fast food joint to me, especially when the previous night rhymes with "medic". You know when to jump in the phone booth and don that spandex when you see me stumbling into your doors as a drunk in distress. #Yelp 365 - 041/365

I had the Hawaiian breakfast here. It was pretty fun to try, especially if you're up early and you want to try something different that you can't get back at home. It comes with two heaping scoops of white rice, a block of scrambled egg, spam, and Portugese sausage. About halfway through, it did feel a bit much. I could feel my art aching under the weight of all that sodium. What I would recommend getting for sure are the pies. Quick snack that'll cost you a buck, the last time I visited they had taro pie. This time they had coconut. Crunchy deep fried cartoned goodness. It brings me back to my childhood, but with a tropical twist.

slow !! slow!!! shouldn't take 20 minutes for two items !

  • Steph G.

I don't know why people don't like this McDonalds. It's in a great location, it has pretty fast wifi, the staff is pretty nice and decently proficient, and unlike McDonalds' in hometown, there aren't bunches of homeless people hanging out or asking for a handout. This McDonalds though, is very busy, so sometimes the service can be a little bit slow. Oh, and there is no ketchup area, and they don't give you any unless you ask.

    (3)
  • Allison O.

Terrible service which is NOT up to the standards of the stockholders and McDonald's in general. Plus, now they have the stigma of the recent shooting incident to deal with on top of an incompetent staff. I would be SHOCKED if they didn't close down this location within the next twelve months. Try the food court downstairs of the Waikiki Business Plaza instead.

  • Patti K.

Not the best McD I've been too, but they have frappés at this location!!!

    (3)
  • Christian R.

I'm giving them 3 stars strictly because of the local deluxe breakfast platter. I wouldn't normally waste my time reviewing a McDonald's restaurant, but man...spam, portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs, and rice? That's worth it right there. It was close to the hotel and pretty good for a McDonald's breakfast.

Not the greatest of locations...busy area. It attracts a lot of strange people of all walks of life (not a big deal to me). I placed an order for my family and ever so often, my kids want a little more. We always start them off with something small. I go back to the cashier and order my daughter McDouble, with only ketchup and onions (this is how my daughter likes it). I also order a large fries. I pick up my order from a lady manager (in a blue shirt) and I proceed back to my table to discover that the McDouble had no onions and the fries were 2/3 full. I immediately (without hesitation), take my order back to the manager that had given it to me 30 second prior and told her the issue. The first words out of her mouth about the McDouble was, "That is not how you ordered it." Accusation #1! Why on earth would you accuse a customer, telling them that they order the sandwich wrong...very unprofessional. I did not even order the sandwich from the manager, but another McDonald's worker. Obviously there was some miscommunication. Second, I show the manager my fries and how they were not filled and the words that came out of her mouth were, "You ate some." Now I was eating at McDonald's our first night on Oahu with my family of 5 and we chose to eat at McDonald's for dinner. Our family loves the most, the McDonald's fries and it is discouraging that when we get our fries that either the employee that filled them (probably the manager) decided to get chintzy with how they fill it or they were just rushing the order to get the fries to us as quickly as possible, without taking care and consideration with how the food was being prepared. Maybe with this manager, both holds true. Never the less, it amazes me how a manager would accuse a customer without any merit or facts. I am sure by the look of many of those customers who were loitering around the restaurant, they probably get a lot of strange and dishonest folk, but you still treat people with respect and at the uttermost, do not accuse and attack the customer. I informed the main manger (who was counting out a drawer) about everything I discussed herein and left it that, but I seriously doubt that anything will be addressed.

spam, eggs, and rice AND saimin..at mcdonald's?? I was excited to come here because this franchise doesn't carry these items in the mainland. We purchased these two items for breakfast. The spam dish was just like any other..but was a bit greasy for me. I suggest you skip the saimin..it was bland, noodles were hard, and the broth tasted really fishy. Word of advice: Try Zippys, it's way better.

  • Michelle B.

What a weird McDonald's. I ate breakfast here after the fake tsunami closed down just about everything in Waikiki and found it to be an interesting case study in franchise corporate culture. No public restrooms are available at this McDonald's. To make up for this lack of Aloha they offer free wi-fi, complimentary fresh pineapple with every breakfast combo, and fried banana pie. I have yet to try the fried banana pie, but I'm tempted to go back and try it with the McPlate Meal. Which would be more appealing if they had a restroom cause I have a feeling you might need it after a meal like that.

  • Dennis H.

Get the local deluxe breakfast best deal in town !!! Yes I was on vacation and I went to McD's !! The irony is, for $6-7 they offered the best breakfast deal around. Spam, Portuguese sausages, eggs, and a hash brown. It was sooo good I came back the next day and ordered an Egg McMuffin but with Spam instead of Canadian Bacon!! Yup, you can subsitute.

I would give this place 3.5 stars. I read most of the other reviews and I wish there were a little more content for some of the reviews. Some of them are legitimate. 1) Yes, the prices are high and quite expensive. (my counter? it's next to the strip of what I would call "Rodeo Dr.". How can it not be so high? Also, it's Hawaii, so everything is more expensive here. 2) Yes, service was slow. (my counter? my husband waited 5 minutes or so for his McD's "fast" food. Was I a little annoyed? I can't lie and say that I wasn't. But my husband noted that there wasn't any food that was "sitting" there waiting to be picked up. They were making everything fresh to order. I could validate that because when I got my food, it was piping hot and it tasted fresh. So, YES, SERVICE IS SLOW but the food was made to order. Depending on what you want, it depends. For me, I prefer quality over the quantity of time it took to get my food - for today at least.) 3) Kimo K. discussed some of the layout of the newly renovated McD's. Yes, I agree that the layout of the McD's could have been better. Honestly, I can't comment too much with regard to this because I'm not sure what it looked like before but I imagine you can only renovate based on the base you have, no? I liked the fact that it was remodeled. I felt that it was clean. She may have a legit point for those who live here, but this place is so touristy, I'm not sure that many of us tourists are bothered by the layout too much. =X All in all, I thought it was clean, refreshing (because it was newly renovated), the sausage burrito was awesome because they STUFFED it with sausage, egg, and cheese. I'm used to the burritos where I barely get ANYTHING in my burritos. MAD PROPS for stuffing these burritos with all the goodness. Also, as others mentioned, COMPLIMENTARY PINEAPPLEs come with breakfast combos. i didn't think i'd have this much to say about a McD's, but I surprised myself. Just don't expect the mainland McD prices. Think about the stores that are a block away (high end stores) and the population to give some perspective on the prices.

  • J G.

You know McDonalds. You know the food you're getting if you go here. The only reason I'm bothering to write a review is their ridiculous choice to inflate the prices here because of the location. Being 2 blocks from expensive restaurants and the beach shouldn't mean such a huge increase in the prices of a chain restaurant. The Cheesecake Factory doesn't increase their prices (at their closer to the beach location) why does McDonalds see fit to?

  • Iris J.

No expiration date on the haupia pie is very disturbing. When the question of "why" was prompted, the manager on duty immediately offered a new fresh order and a complimentary card for a free item on my next visit. That quick remedy was sufficient for me!!!

  • Tricia L.

Food quality? It's McDonald's so it's the same as everywhere else. Service was not as fast. The real doozy is questionable characters hanging in the restaurant.

Consistently the slowest service ever. I've waited 15 minutes for a dollar mcdouble. The cashiers can almost never get my order right. Horrible communication between staff.

FYI: the $1.00 cheeseburger and $1.00 chicken sandwich is now $1.15 __________________________________________________________________________ A few days ago. I had ordered the $1.05 cheese burger on the side with other items. I got home and bit into the cheese burger and guess what? THERE WAS NO HAMBURGER INSIDE!!!! WTF?!?? Just the 2 buns, cheese, pickles, onions, and ketchup. BASTARDS ! __________________________________________________________________________

I had to come here to try the banana pie they serve here yet don't in California. I was disappointed that it was the banana pie at first as I was hoping for taro or the coconut one. The outside is super crispy, they still fry their pies here which makes the difference and serves to upset me that we no longer do it in California. Crispy outside, the inside was a moist banana with cinnamon. It was REALLY good. I mean wow. Again, I am not big into bananas but this remanded me of a yummy bread pudding or some other type of decadent dessert that you would plunk out far more than $1 for. Yes I got breakfast. They even subbed out the meat for another egg for free which was super nice of them. Great service, and surprisingly one of the better little pies I have ever had in my life.

Don't go here if you want one of the dipped ice cream cones that they advertise prominently. After waiting in a long line to order from the lone counter-person, I was advised that the ice cream machine was "still broken." No such information was posted on the picture of the cone right next to the order taker, or anywhere else for that matter.

This McDonald's is probably the worst I've been to. I went there three times and during all three times they managed to mess up the order... even after having them read it back to me before I paid. Also, don't forget to say NO PINEAPPLES when you order a meal because it is an extra cost and don't even ask if you want the pineapples or not. And if you order fries, expect half full containers... they stingy on the fries.

It was about 6:30AM and we were on our way to the North Shore for our North Shore Shark Adventures reservation ( yelp.com/biz/north-shore… ). Our hotel's complimentary breakfast wasn't open that early, so we decided to go to McDonalds for a quick to-go breakfast. Wow, this place is ridiculously expensive. $7 for 2 Egg McMuffins - aren't these typically on the $1 menu?? No parking lot. No free parking in the neighborhood, and it won't be easy finding a spot in the street. If you have a car and need to park, your best bet is to park at the nearby Food Pantry ( yelp.com/biz/food-pantry… ) and pick up a quick bite there!

Free wifi and super great food. They have the taro pies you read about only randomly. They have hawaii items like plate breakfast with rice and eggs and spam. Definitely a cure for the night before.

Yes, I ate at McDonald's while I was in Hawaii. Don't judge! Whenever I travel out of the country, I always like to try the McDonalds. Here, they have slightly different menu than back in the mainland. Like portuguese sausage, eggs and rice, or spam, eggs and rice for breakfast. Yes, I said SPAM. They even give you soy sauce. SOY SAUCE and RICE at Mickey D's!! And they still fry their apple turnovers and banana pies. I had a fried banana pie ala mode, FOR BREAKFAST! YUMMMM!!! Oh, and the macadamia nut ice coffee?? SUPER YUM! flickr.com/photos/dukeof… flickr.com/photos/dukeof…

This mcdonalds is about 2 blocks from the hotel we stayed at so I thought I would give it a try. I was hoping for some region specific foods, especially spam but there was nothing unqiue on the menu at all which was very dissappointing, except for the blueberry pie. Not very unique but never seen it on there menu before. I ate a couple of them and they were very good, I will get a couple more for sure before I go home from vacation. Pigeons fly in and out of here at will, I think that's funny.

This McDonalds sucks. Service is so slow and the fries are always soggy. They also inflate their combo prices for the included Pinapple. Tell them you don't want the pinapple and they will take $1.50 off the price. Otherwise a Big Mac combo will cost you $9.00 Yuck.

Just want to get a mcdouble before work, but this place took 15 minutes to get my mcdouble ready. It took 15 minutes to get a mcdouble ready while the restaurant is not busy and there are 6 employees working plus a manager. What a joke!!!! I will never come back to this McDonald ever, I can get any of my food ready in any fast food restaurant in less than 15 minutes!!!!!

One of my goals coming to Hawaii was to try Hawaii's Mcdonald's breakfast menu. Nothing special super special, breakfast special included: spam, portuguese sausage, scrambled eggs and tons of rice. Also, a local special is the deep fried taro pie. Not wowed or amazed by it, but it was cheap decent eats because everything in Hawaii is crazy expensive and I can say I tried the local breakfast menu.

This MD was near our hotel room so it was easy to pick up some FAST food breakfast before we went on our little adventures for the day. The employees are rude. No smiles AT ALL! And once you order, it takes about 10 minutes to get your food!

One of the really cute things about Hawaii is that even their Mickey Ds are different. This one is shaped like a cute Polynesian hut. Parking here probably sucks, but chances are you'll be here on foot if you're a tourist. Having free Wi-Fi here is AWESOME for us foreigners. This is probably one of the best things the head office has done in years. Some of the food items here are uniquely Hawaiian as well. If you're from out of state, you HAVE to try the Spam + eggs breakfast. It was awe-inspiring. Just like a Big Breakfast back home, but with 2 scoops of rice instead of hash browns, and well, the 2 slices of Spam goodness. They also have a Portuguese sausage option (also uniquely Hawaiian afaik) if you want to mix it up and live on the edge.

While vacationing in Hawaii, you would think McDonald's would be one of the LAST places you would eat, especially with Hawaii's ample supply of local food, but for people in the know, we come here to try the special regional MickeyD's menu. Here's what I tried during my stay: SAIMIN: I wasn't expecting noodles to be any good from a McDonald's so my expectations weren't dashed. It was basically a very bland cup noodle, but with what seemed like soba noodles, a bit of egg, kamaboko, and seaweed. I needed to add the little packet of soy sauce because the broth was so bland. I won't be ordering this again, but at least I can say I tried it. TARO PIE: It seems that the special pies rotate on the island. I was hoping to try the Haupia Pie, but they didn't have it this time. :( The taro pie was rather disappointing. I love taro, but this pie was strangely pink (when usually taro-flavored items are purple-ish) and didn't taste very taro-y. I could sort of taste the taro if I took a big bite of it, but it wasn't enough to get me to finish the thing. I only managed to eat about 1/3 of it before giving up. It was also fried (and I prefer my pies in the baked form). LOCAL DELUXE BREAKFAST PLATTER: This breakfast platter came with Spam AND Portuguese Sausage. I thought rice from a McDonald's would be terrible, but to my surprise, it was actually okay. Interestingly, they also give you a small packet of soy sauce, but we thought the Spam was plenty salty for us and adding soy sauce to the rice or eggs would be overkill. The sausage was actually pretty tough. It kind of reminded me of those Chinese reddish sausages you eat with rice, but flattened and not as sweet. I split the order with my friend because we didn't want the sodium causing us to swell up when we went to the beach. Haha! Another special thing with Hawaiian McDonald's is that they serve FRESH PINEAPPLE with their Extra Value Meals. I thought this was cool, but didn't order off the value menu so I didn't get a chance to try it. The prices on the island McDonald's are higher than the prices found on the mainland and I assume the pineapple is probably to blame. Other than these few menu items, this place is your typical McDonald's albeit with slightly higher prices and tourists.

Are You kidding me ? No restroom for customers in a McDonald's joint with all the money they made and at a central location in Hawaii? Come on! I am from Hong Kong where properties price are skyrocketing and more expensive than here and the McDonalds there have restroom for customers no matter how small the McDonalds are ! Management of McDonald's in America needs a slap in the face and they need to up their customers service compare to Hong Kong management. If I find another one of McDonald that are like this in USA. I won't be going to any USA McDonald anymore ! Period !

Hawaiian breakfast good...but the eggs are....meh. Service is slow, but "Now Hiring" sign in the window. Can't really complain, it was a decent experience. Haupia pie is a delish treat, if you think you're going to share it...buy two, because he won't share.

The typical McDonald's experience. Except there are some Hawaiian specialties such as haupia pie and spam breakfasts. Positive: It's open 24 hours and in the heart of Waikiki. Features the new shaker fries. Negatives: no drive thru. Past midnight expect a crowd of drunken revelers.

**NOTE: This review is for the Haupia Pie only.** The Haupia Pie is a seasonal pie that you can only get in Hawaii. Haupia is a coconut-milk based dessert that is very popular in the aloha state. The McDonald's Haupia Pie was deep fried and served warm. The haupia filling was delicious and the pie was crunchy, but it wasn't anything special. I still prefer the original apple pie to this. In other words, "meh, I've experienced better." Speaking of experiencing better though, if you ever go to Canada, try their caramel pie. It's the best McDonald's Pie in North America.

Really rude cashier, no restroom, and only had banana and apple pies (no taro, no haupia). Left empty handed. Won't return.

To begin with this place is a shit hole. Especially after midnight only hookers and homeless and drunks and not a place that you trust the food I would take a picture of the hookers but pimp would beat the crap out of me. Is also a McDonald's where the SS shot dead Da Hawaiian. the outside is a toilet for homeless. It really smells bad. I was out with my Marine buddies and stopped to see what I could get for $1... but most of the tables were taken by homeless (5) and I left when I saw manager over salt the cancer sticks ... not sprinkle but dump his load in one spot and scoop up the order of fried GMO. And these are people demanding $15 an hour? Never go here unless your a drunk whore or homeless wanting to get free wifi.

Came in to get a bit to eat. The restaurant was dirty. As busy as they are at this time they shut down a area to eat. The down side is that it's very hot in the restaurant. The A/C vent was blowing hot air. Service was very rude. No one smiles.

Don't know why, but the breakfast platters with rice are inconsistent. Either the rice is too wet and inedible or too dry and hard and equally inedible. Sigh! Found out that I can request my Portuguese sausage to be "well done" so that it doesn't come out undercooked! Have to wait about 5 minutes longer, but it's worth the wait. Hope no one gets sick from the inadequate and poorly prepared food...Where are the McDonald's standards?!!

Trash people, making subpar (even for mcdonalds) trash food...... Oh, and they treat you with a hefty dose of disrespect.

Took too long to get a Six piece kids meal. Normally would be happy that everything is cooked when we ordered it but it tasted like it was undercooked or re heated maybe not happy at all

Hate this location. The staff don't care. All the customers stand wherever and some cut without a clear cut area where they are supposed to wait. The staff should be directing people to stand in a certain place to order. It is also SOOOOO slow. Seriously. Sometimes the line is out the door and the manager makes no attempts to make sure more people are on the register. Crap hole is what this location is.

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. This is the worst chain of McDonalds on the island. Not only is the "renovated" method of ordering and pick-up useless but it creates congestion near the front of the store you'd think its a town hall meeting. I also hate that the menu it's so ridiculously small...Since the ordering lines are on the left side of the counters, you can barely see the right side of the menu even if you're 2nd in line to order. And I have 20/20 vision- go figure. If I wanted to get a closer look, I'd have to venture into the 'pick-up' area in order to see. Ugh. CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!!! True story- I placed an order for an egg mcmuffin meal w/ orange juice only to find that my total was $8.50! Are you serious???! For breakfast?! To fuel my disgruntlement, I saw a charge for pineapples on my receipt that I did not ask for nor offered by the cashier. Why the hell are you charging me 'fresh cut pineapples?!' Apparently, according to the supervisor/manager/incompetent idiot...pineapples automatically come with every meal. Wait a second, so McDonalds Kuhio takes your money without your consent? Isn't that -what's the word for this umm- RIPOFF?!! Oh yeah by the way, this "every meal gets a pineapple" deal is at Waikiki only...or so he says. Well I say this is a TOURIST TRAP!! He reluctantly authorized my refund to the clueless cashier with no apology. I feel bad for all those who has fallen for this trap thinking yay pineapples I love Hawaii! What's deceiving is the sign advertises it as 'fresh cut pineapples with every value meal,' however does not list a price next to it, insinuating that it's free. Bullshit. Make sure you request NO PINEAPPLE and check your receipts the next time you're here. Or not, that is if you want a few chunks of canned pineapple in a McDs cup for $1.50.

***Visited in October*** Canada's McDonalds lack specials like spam breakfasts, banana pies and $5 20 Chicken McNuggets deals. It was worth the few dollars spent here. Very friendly, but it's McDonalds. Everyone is friendly!

Local "deluxe" breakfast - works in a pinch. My compatriot was tired of my never ending quest to eat every day at Shirokiya and besides, I didn't see any "Hawaiian Breakfast" there. It was a hop, skip and jump from our hotel and I wanted to try the taro pie but the breakfast was filling and we'd had enough fried foods at that point. The novelty of ordering rice, spam, portuguese sausage and eggs at McD's was sufficient rationale to skip Shirokiya for one day. Ah, but if you can make it over to Liliha Bakery ... that's a whole 'nother story and likely my next "review." Now that was AWESOME!
