Horrible. This place was once pretty good. But now its just a wreck. I use to come here for the chicken katsu which was pretty good, now its just an oily mess. The chicked is just coated with oil and that's all you can taste. They absolutely tenderize the crap out of the chicken and make it so thin that the majority of the katsu is breading.. The interior has not changed, the people are the same rude chinese people.. The prices have risen over time which is natural but the food quality has gone down.. If you're looking for an oily mess and an excuse for clogged arteries and a heart attack visit L&L.. Otherwise, don't waste your time!

Horrible! I agree, they once use dt be good, but now these reasturant are old and run down, food is nasty and staff is rude. Went to Kahala store at 8:30 (they close at 9) Everything I asked for was "sold out", and cash only. Lady was VERY rude! Instead of sitting on her behind counting the minutes till closing and scaring away customers, she could of wipe down some tables or mob floor. The table are sticky, and floors are black from dirt

I had previously gone to L&L Drive-Inn in Hawaii on a frequent basis when visiting, but the only thing I really have gotten is their chicken katsu, which tends to be really greasy at times. Service isn't really that great, however. Not exactly one of those go-to places in Hawaii to eat at, but it's okay here and there.

Tasty. We got the medium platter of chicken katsu for a party and were as a whole, satisfied. On time and prompt with service, on a Saturday afternoon.

L&L is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat. I do however HATE being rushed whenever I walk into the door or ANY L&L. I walk right into the door and they expect me to order on the spot. It is like, "HEY, I JUST GOT HERE. LET ME LOOK AT YOUR MENU."

This may be a little strict, because this was the first meal I had after I came back from Japan, where a restaurant like this would go out of business within a week. I went to the store and ordered a katsu curry. "katsu?" asked the lady. No, a curry with katsu I said. "ok." she says. I go and wait for my food and sure enough, just plain old katsu. At that point, I no longer cared, I just wanted to eat, so I just took the katsu. My gripe is with the katsu itself. I seem to remember the days when the chicken katsu I ordered from L&L actually had chicken in it. The two or three slices from the very middle were the only pieces that I could actually tell that there was chicken inside. Even then, the layers of breading were thicker than the layer of chicken. The rest of the pieces seemed to be breading and maybe some skin or something. The sauce was...not too too bad. It was a little thin and had more worchestershire than my liking. Perhaps if there was some chicken to balance the flavor of the sauce it would have tasted better.

Quantities of food at reasonable prices. My experiences here have been good, unlike the other yelpers. This is not healthy stuff, but it is realiably "stick to your ribs." Most recently ordered a staple--BBQ chicken. Tasty, moist and filling. Good stuff! Mac salad is good. Dining companion at the other staple--chicken katsu. Crispy fried cutlets with sauce. Hot and yummy and not greasy or oily. They do offer brown rice and greens in lieu of mac salad, but who are we kidding here? You're here for the plate lunch. L & L does it right.

Not very well kept, really dirty. Extremely disappointed that they don't serve mochiko chicken. Their breaded pork chops which was on special tastes horribly old

This review is more about the dining room. The food is typical L&L. For being empty, the dining room was filthy and all of the employees were just standing around. The dining room also smelled heavily of Clorox, which made me feel like I was sitting in a public bathroom.

Thr food here is just like any l&l, nothing special, just a plate lunch. The place is a bit dirty but im sure they are doing their best. The service is terrible. I ordered catering trays a day before my party and it was quick and painless over the phone. When my husband went to pick it up the next afternoon they "lost" the order then said that I cancelled the order. So I had them make it right then and now and that took another 25 minutes AND they didn't even cut up the meat into strips. Never again.

I used to eat here too much when I was in high school and in college. Probably one of the many reasons why I balloon close to 300 lbs way back then. But then again, I was just too ignorant of the fact that I was just killing myself with fast food. And so, once I got my weight down to a decent goal, I decided to come here in the more recent future to part take in what I had (or should've been) missing. Let's just say that I really don't miss it, when I could have went to a real restaurant and be waited on and have that whole experience. But I do like the fast side of fast food, where time does matter to a lot of people and the fast pace of life we all live in these days. L&L is synonymous with Hawaii, as with Zippy's and beaches and Diamond Head is. As much as I dislike Zippy's for trying to be Hawaii's go to place for comfort food, L&L Is no different. Comfort food is what it is. Most often than not, it's quite unhealthy, but it's delicious and very much tasty too. Located within the Kahala Mall Shopping Complex, L&L Drive Inn next to the Kozo Sushi and McDonald's block. It has been there for as long as I can remember. This place has not changed since my high school days, and it's the same people I still remember from back then too who's still working at the exact same location 10+ years later! Wow. Talk about no personnel turn around! I guess whatever works for them is a success to them. L&L Kahala has been a relic in the Kahala Mall shopping center, and they seem content on being there for a long time more. It's clear that the L&L that I once knew has decidedly have gone steadily down hill from the last time I remember. On this last visit of mine, I wanted to try the BBQ mixed plate again. I remember the prices being cheaper than they are right now. I guess they, like everyone else, is raising prices because of the current economic times. Just wanted to see if the BBQ mix plate is as consistent as I had known before. And just to see how much of a lingering craving I have for this kind of cuisine right now. Let's just say - again - that the food itself isn't all that great, and I just like to be waited on at the restaurant, even if I paid a bit more for it. It's worth the extra. The experience at this L&L was basically like McDonald's. Fast and a bit hurried. They didn't take credit cards back then. All cash only, like I remember it back in my high school and college dayz, but apparently they do now! How times do change and they adapt to the times. It normally takes about 5 minutes to order and pick up and it's never crowded, but at times, it can be during peak times. I often liked getting the cold ginger chicken plate w/ white rice back in the day. At least that was probably the most healthiest thing you can get at L&L. Just saying. C-

It is so irraz doing a food order because I am ordering what is in the menu and for some reason I have to keep on repeating myself a couple time. Finally I said if I can speak with someone who understands English. Picked up my "chicken katsu plate"..come home..no chicken katsu sauce. Called them up and she said she will give me a credit for the fries I ordered. I said nope. So after less than 5 minutes explain to her that she screwed up on the chicken katsu she will give us a mini katsu. Plus our fries were so gross. It was so soft..far from being crispy and they looked like they were burnt. It tasted gross. This is the last time I will be eating here. Other locations are much better.

Ate here numerous times and each time I've asked myself wth I even come back...oh that's right, I used to work at the mall and I live right up the road. Front service is usually a young 20s Chinese person. Not nice or rude, but always a whatever demeanor. Parking can suck depending on time of day and busy hours. Portions here are small while prices are higher than average. You get screwed twice. Mini plates average almost $7 without drink and plates are tons of rice and salad - skinny on the meat. Regular plates are almost $12. And believe me, the mini is literally mini. Good is LnL quality which is typically ok. But when you get less for more money then you expect quality to be at least congruent with cost. Do yourself a favor and skip this place! If you're driving then visit the LnL on Waialae across Chaminade and St. Louis. It's for sure a hole on the wall usually with a Chinese couple that either look upset or actually are upset, lol. They are nice but you know sometimes they look like it's been a long day. Prices are roughly $2 cheaper and portions are waaaaay more appropriate/larger. Example, their mini plates are served in the regular size containers so the meat portion is much more substantial. I've been going to the Kaimuki location almost 10 years now so trust me, if you want lots of food at decent prices from LnL then go there!

Don't say nobody warned you. Ordered the Katsu Curry plate. The "curry" had the consistency of water and tasted exactly that. There was absolutely NO FLAVOR. It was the most disgusting plate I have ever had in my entire life. Writing this review is pissing me off more now than when I was taking my first flavorless bite.

L&L: Luxury price and little portions! Went there and asked for a chili bowl with all chili, came home to a bowl that was 1/4 th full. Called to complain, they said to come back and they would fill it up. Came back and was thankful they gave us a chili bowl so we ordered a bbq mixed plate ( kalbi/ Teri beef/ bbq ckn) went home and noticed they stuck a pork Chop, a small piece of chicken and a tiny piece of Teri beef, couldn't even feed a small child with that portion! For $12.95 too?! The kahala Location has gone downhill, fast!

Ordered two hotdogs plain for my youngest son. They decide to put ketchup, mustard, and relish on the dogs. Would have been okay, but the relish was full on rancid. My boy could have gotten sick....... Even their hamburger was old and dry... I will never eat there again.

So this L&L (Kahala) charges 11.95$ for a regular chicken katsu plate! I saw that, asked for clarification and walked out. I dont write reviews often and definitely try to stay positive if I do, but this kind of price gouging is awful. This particular franchise owner's are greedy...point blank period. They dont deserve anyone's business. I called my hometown Kalihi/Liliha L & L to see what the price for their reg chicken katsu plate - 8.36$ with tax. Nuff said! #GreedNoGood

Ok, so this may not be the healthiest choice for a quick bite to eat, but man, it sure does hit the spot sometimes. So I came here recently because I was craving some chicken katsu! My experience here was decent, the staff was friendly and quick. My order took a while (not sure why), but I guess that means my katsu was cooked fresh! It was just as yummy as I remember it, with ono mac salad and their awesome katsu sauce. I did however feel like I needed to run 5miles after eating it all!! This location is fairly small, but never that crowded. It has seating if you wish to eat there and the parking is just in the mall, which can get crowded. I'm actually amazed that there are still so many L&L's standing these days. Usually people are trying to eat more healthy and going here is definitely not the way to go! But, we all get that local plate lunch craving, so I guess I'm glad for it still surviving at kahala mall!

disclaimer: i was ono for Hawaiian food at the wrong time. Ok! So, you may think," what the heck kind of Hawaiian orders a lau lau plate from here?"
