You cannot pay me to return to this restaurant. I was sort of a regular there for weekday lunch with co-workers but after today I will not give owner, Klein, another chance. His servers are very friendly, and most of the food on the menu can be good, or even really good, but the consistency overall is terrible. Today, Klein served my friend a taco salad with "taco sauce" that was actually french dressing. Before her plate got to the table I could hear Klein and his servers in the kitchen trying to locate the "taco sauce." I expected the server to come over and say "sorry, we are out of the taco sauce" and perhaps check if my friend wanted to change her order. But no, the taco salad was served, with the French dressing presented as "taco sauce." We've had this salad many times - it was clearly French dressing. But the servers insisted that it was the same taco sauce. I asked to speak to the owner, Klein, but he would not come to our table. He even charged us $1.00 for "extra taco sauce" so we had to adjust our "tip" accordingly. (Apologies to our very friendly servers.) My friends and I have been very forgiving with Klein and his tendency to charge for extra ketchup, under-season his meat, or ignore tables ready to pay. He can act very friendly, but after today's lunch I'm just done. I'll return to Ground Floor when there is new ownership.

Thumbs up on the bentos. I enjoyed the ahi belly and gyoza. My meat was rubbed with just the right amount of seasoning. Just remember to ask for steak knife. Ground Floor is a good place for small business lunches or pau hana with friends. Has bar and tv around.

Good burgers! Right up there with the best on da island. Great atmosphere, service and prices.

Shame on me for not posting a review earlier for this place. But places that I go to have lunch during the work week I often tend to forget to submit a Yelp review. Anyway, I have been here many times and really like their special bento. I am not a raw fish person so they kindly add more teriyaki and/or chicken which is perfect for me. I have salads here before too and they were good but I just think their special bento is the boom boom bomb to have for lunch. There was a time back in October that they closed down for about six weeks and I thought they had closed for good so did not venture this way for some time. But a friend told me they were opened so we started to frequent the place again. Ironically, went there last Friday and they were closed - not sure why but I will probably find out when I go there when I need my bento fix. Aside of this periodic closures, the food and service here is great. Especially during the work week you always want good when you go out to eat, but fast so you can get back to the office and this place does that for you.

My 1st time here -- never heard of it, didn't know where it was. It's literally on the GROUND FLOOR of a building. My boss took me here to have lunch...service was really slow. there was only 2 servers throughout the whole restaurant. The other people worked in the back. Took awhile to get our orders in, no one asked if we wanted anything to drink? or anything other then water. Finally got our order in...then it took awhile to get ahold of the server so we could pay. I ordered the "Mushroom Swiss Burger" -- DONT ORDER IT. The mushrooms looked fake!! The mushrooms at Pizza Hut atleast look real. I took off all of the mushrooms. i was not going to eat them. They give a thick burger with a little bit of fries. I wouldn't eat there again.

I came here one day during my jury duty lunch break. This was my first time here, didn't even know that this place existed. I met up with my mom for lunch and was glad she introduced me to this place. It's a decent size restaurant/bar. I noticed that they had flyer's up for live entertainment during the evening time so I assume people come here after work for pau hana time. When we arrived it was a little after noon and there was a couple tables open. The waitress told us to seat ourselves which we did. I looked over the menu and noticed that they had salads, sandwiches, a couple entrees such as hamburger steak, saimin and also burgers. My mom decided on getting a saimin and I ordered a patty melt with fries. The main reason why I didn't give this place 4 starts is because service is really slow. Other than that, the food was good and the servers were friendly. I would come back again.

I literally live across the street from this place and I finally got the nerve to walk in and check it out. And I am so glad I did! What a great "Cheers" like environment. Everyone is very friendly and the entertainment is fun. If you are lucky and stay after 9pm, the owner will break out the karaoke and you can stay until you lose your voice:) Come here if you are looking to eat fried foods and drink...I was impressed that they knew my name when I returned a second time. I try to come Tuesdays and Thursdays to see my fav bartender "Dee" and entertainer Guy. The owner runs the mechanic shop next door. How can you not love a place where everyone knows your name! A decent place to have breakfast too...

Close to the office, use to have great service. One of the best burgers on island. But this last week even the manager was rude! The waitress was hanging out of all her clothes. Tank top, and shorts if you'll call them that. Then scratching her arms while trying to stay focused on our order. Asked the manager for mayo he barked "it's on the bun" well I can't eat the bun! And my friend wanted a little extra. Not only did he "toss" the extra mayo on the table but charged us .50 cents for the smallest plastic container out there. I don't mind paying extra for items but sheesh. Finally their health card was a "conditional pass". Ground Floor not sure where your regular wait staff went, and your manners, but sad for this experience.

I love this place! The people that work here really made an effort to get to know me, maybe cuz I don't always come in when they're jam-packed. Food: Yummy The burgers are top notch, really. The salad doesn't need as much dressing as they put on there, but no real complaints. Bar: Dead guy! They have dead guy on draft. Color me impressed! The girls that work here don't really know how to bar tend, but that's not why they work there either, so don't get fussy about it. Service: Great They get so busy with the lunch rush around noon that the service can be a little slow. It's understandable, though. I mean the one girl working the bar is also working the whole floor. You try waiting on 15 tables with a big smile and see what a breeze that is. Ambiance: Busy If you're there for the Friday night music, you might be in luck. Or you might not. It doesn't get too loud to chat with someone next to you, but the bands are hit or miss. Price: A bit pricey The quality of the food justifies the price tag, but in no way is it a "great deal." I wouldn't be able to come here regularly. $12 average lunch entree is too much for me.

They're now under new management, who've renovated the place. Personally I didn't recognize any of the renovations until someone pointed it out. It's dark in there with black ceilings, but your eyes adjust. They've also adjusted their menu - they still have the Taco Salad, but it's just not quite the same. My coworker had it and she noticed the difference in the dressing they now use and she also noticed the smaller portion size. I ordered the korean chicken. Halfway through eating my lunch, someone came out and told me that they forgot to give me the sauce that goes with it. I kinda thought something was missing from my dish, but wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I think that I would have been better off not knowing they forgot to give me the sauce. Would I come back? I don't know. Fellow Yelpers - help me out - check it out and write a review =)

Nice little place with great food, drinks, and entertainment. Every dish I've ordered has been quite tasty. I will go through entire menu eventually.
(4)Nicole M.
Popped in here to get a saimin because I wasn't feeling so well. The place itself is comfortable and quiet and seems clean. Their saimin is fairly basic with a mild (but still good) broth, kamaboko, and a little shredded cabbage, but mine also came with a piece of shrimp tempura which I thought was a nice touch. The service was very nice too. Looked like they had a few other plate lunch type items available as well as a poke plate which I'd be curious to try. I think it'd also be a nice place for a few pau hana drinks!

One of my go-to favorite places in Downtown. Nice casual atmosphere and the food is good and plentiful. Moderately priced, you can afford to dine here at lunch. Breakfast menu is reasonable too - they have a $3.99 special that really fills you up. For lunch, I usually order the Ground Floor Taco Salad. . . . I remember the first time I tried it - I thought HMMM . . .strange to put a creamy french dressing on taco salad, but I'll try it. It's delicious. Highly recommend. They have a fairly extensive menu, from sandwiches, to salads, noodles and burgers. The nice thing about GF is that its a nice place to meet a couple friends for lunch or go it alone. Some places I wouldn't dare go eat by myself, but this one of my favorite places to dine alone. They have televisions on (usually tuned to Food Network during the day) and the servers are very attentive and usually seats you in one of the nice window seats so you can people watch as well. Or if alone, the bar is a great place to plant it and chat it up with the wait help.

Tucked away in a snug little corner of downtown is one of Honolulu's little surprises. Newly renovated and under new ownership with a friendly professional staff... the atmosphere is just perfect for that after work drink, or casual lunch. Close to all the government offices downtown... it's a popular meeting spot for political insiders, journalists and the like... It's never short on interesting characters to talk to, Top it all off with the occasional live music or art show and I think you'll become a quick convert. In a word... Cozy.

Awesome spot to watch sports! Hit up lots of NBA playoff games at Ground Floor - volume on, good beer specials, good food, fun bartenders to shoot the breeze with. Nice place to unwind after a long work day downtown. Don't normally eat food here, just get some pupus. Service is usually pretty on it in terms of speed, so your glasses should never be empty for too long. Don't expect a ton, just hang out and have some brews. You'll be pleased with the mellow vibe there.

I wasn't sure what to expect when my friend told me he was holding a HH at Ground Floor. The name sounded funny, I didn't know where Richards street was, and the reviews weren't all the best. However, I was pleasantly impressed. First off, there is free parking in the complex after 6pm. Always a plus. When I walked in, there was a live band playing, a 20 something person table setup for our party, and quick table service. Even though there was only one bartender who was also the server, I must admit, service was really good. They have drink and food specials I believe all night long. Awesome place. I will for sure be back!

This review is for lunch... Total low key, easy going comfortable sit down restaurant in down town. It reminded me of Columbia Inn (and I mean that in the nicest of ways). And such, that means I had to order chicken cutlet with gravy all over! Yum. The menu is quite extensive with comfort food. I hear you come here for the taco salad or the teri hamburger, but I found that out AFTER I already got back from lunch! The chicken cutlet came with a side salad, which was basic (iceberg lettuce and a little bit of other stuff) but the french dressing was quite tasty and it was quite a mound of lettuce. The main dish came with a nice slab of chicken cutlet, 2 scoops rice, and mac salad. The mac salad was a surprise. But it was all for like 10 bucks. The gravy was the best part, I must admit. But I can't give it more than 3 stars yet because the cutlet, while tasty, was really full of burned, crispy fatty breading, so I actually cut away a lot of that. Made my plate kind of a nasty mess, but it was still good. The gravy is really why I'll be coming back! They did try to give us the wrong bill, but when I asked they were like oh yeah, sorry. Doesn't matter, the bill was about the same price anyway it turned out... They take credit cards but I have no idea where you park. I'd go back. It's one of the few casual/diner type feeling restaurants in downtown! Yelp 365 Challenge #06/365 August 6, 2011

Ok, I had my first meal here a few weeks ago and I had the pulehu ribs and it was great! I've been here a few times since and the food is always good but today I placed a phone order. Oh boy did this girl mess it up, I call at 12:00 pm, place the order and I'm told it'll be 20 min. When I arrive 35 min later, she then enters the order, WHAT? I then finally receive my order at 1:00 pm and find out there's no Mac salad and I've been given green salad. I ordered for 4 people that expected Mac as well as myself, let down again on the Mac, they don't make enough, so sad. I made sure to double check the rest of my order and found more issues!!!!! Huh, sigh, it's hard when you specifically order something and told no problem and get something else. So sad.. Make sure to check your phone orders here and it'd probably be a good idea to repeat it 5 x's.

Ate there once, had the hamburger steak with toss salad. 15 mins after had a really really really bad reaction to the food... nausea, dizzy, heart racing, dry mouth... Last time I had that it was because of MSG. Guessing they add a lot MSG to the gravy. Will NEVER eat there EVER!!! Who knows what else that add it in.

I was curious about this famous taco salad. I got it and was like, is this it? Maybe it's because I've eaten a lot of taco salads in my time but this was ridiculous. I got the "light portion" of the salad for about $7.50 and it was nothing but iceberg lettuce, ground meat cooked in those powdered taco seasoning packets, and like 3 crushed tortilla chips. There may have been some cheese in there I'm not sure. The regular portion was the same but with more lettuce. The service was ok. At about 1:15pm, we were the only ones left in the restaurant. We kept overhearing the waiters turn down incoming patrons because the kitchen "ran out of food." This was weird, do they want to do business as a restaurant or what?

I'm on the journey for the best Loco Moco on the island. This is my first stop down town. This place caught my eye while I was walking. Went into a nice, friendly atmosphere, homey little restaurant. Service was super quick and like I said was super friendly. Wish I could have stayed longer but #1, I was full, #2 only had 20 more minutes left for my lunch break. I will definitely make it back here again... this time to suck down some beers/scotch. For the food: Loco Moco: Rice- Regular white rice cooked good. Meat- Homemade patty, cooked well, good tasting, about 3/4 to 1 inch thick, nice amount of salt, tender. (2)Over Easy Eggs- Perfectly cooked. Not too much where the yolk gets cooked, not too little where the white part is all "hanabata" like. Perfect. Gravy- Looks like regular brown gravy with an added sauteed thinly-sliced onions. Good tasting too. Total Damage- $8.90 Overall Loco Meter- 7 out of 10 It tasted very good. I was sad that I had to put ketchup, tabasco, and pepper on it (because thats my ritual!) but it tasted good without it. Wish it came automatically with a spoon (I hate eating loco moco with forks). Overall experience- 4 out of 5 stars (nice place, nice people)

The cheeseburger was overcooked (eventhough I asked for "medium" temperature), but taste was not bad. They don't give much grilled mushrooms (only 4 thin slivers). Fries are a little soggy. Don't bother with the ahi belly - too small (about 3 ounces).
(2)Layne O.
Under new management from the start of 2012 with an over hauled menu and decor. Tried the Ground Floor bento for lunch and everything in the box was awesome, fresh and tasty. My friend tried the tuna sandwich and he said it was the best tuna sandwich he ever ate. The waiter told us that they use fresh ahi (tuna) and not something out of the can. Definitely will be back to try that.
(5)Kirk K.
New owner, recently renovated. Great atmosphere, excellent service, employees very attentive. Heard the hamburger was "to die for"! Third time back, I gave it a try...soooo happy I did. Patties are hand-made on the spot, cooked to your specs. AWESOME!!! Best I've had in awhile. Very, very juicy & moist patty, served on a soft, bakery-fresh bun with crisp lettuce and vine-ripe tomatoes. I'll b back for the burger and the company! Ohh, it alo came with fries crispy, hot...but its the burger i'll be craving!!!
(5)Eric B.
Retraction: the Ground Floor was sold a few months ago and remodeled. The old owner/waiter is gone and the place suffers his loss. Wait staff is not charming (though, okay, waiters aren't required to be), and they have a new menu, where both the portions and the prices have gotten a little bigger. It's still an okay restaurant, plenty of people still there at lunch, but after one visit to the "new" Ground Floor, I haven't bothered to return.
(2)Peter A.
Couldn't find anywhere in the downtown area with live music six nights a week till I stopped by the Ground Floor. It sure beats sitting in traffic to get home, and the music starts at about 6PM till 9PM or later. Good service, good food. The variety of music every night from different performers is what gets me going back for more. And come on, what other establishment has free well lit parking after 5PM.
(4)John T.
I've eaten here about 10 times, and despite this review, I'll probably eat here again in the future, just for the sheer convenience (location near my job). I won't be mean as it's not deserved, so to their credit, the food is marginal to good. The portions on most of their dishes are decent. I've tried several dishes and my favorite is always the saimin with an extra shrimp tempura. The poke bowl is also good. The low review is due to the service. If you go during the lunch rush hour, prepare to wait... and wait for all service, from receiving drinks to receiving your food, to receiving your bill. And don't expect to get refills on your drink, as the single waitress they have working during each shift, is too busy servicing a full restaurant. I'd say the average time to receive your food is about 20 to 30 minutes, which can be an issue when you have a set lunch break. Please, please invest in two waitresses and maybe an extra cook. I know you need to save money and cut costs, but it shouldn't be at the expense of customer service.
(2)T M.
Love it here, owner tells it like it is, pretty chill live music. Older crowd, downtown after work vibe and great food. Owner is a formers Roys chef. Small place but nice. I love the burgers and pulehu.

A bare bones bar that has the best fried chicken EVER. One doesn't often think of Downtown Honolulu when you think about where to get a cocktail but thankfully yelper Laurie P knew just the place! We had just wrapped up an Elite event at the First Hawaiian bank building and wanted to gather for an after-party drink. I was wearing three-inch heels and insisted it be close by or else I was going to jump ship. We walked just two blocks away to Ground Floor. It's located across the backside of the post office and there's no way I ever would have found it on my own. We walked in with a rowdy group of about 15 people and were welcomed with a blank stare from the bartender and what I can only assume were regulars. We took up the back end of the bar and I hurried to the bar to get my one drink for the night. The bartender who I didn't feel was very happy to see us (I theorize he may have wanted to close up for the night or maybe he just wasn't having a sunshine day) but carded us all diligently while taking our orders. We sat down to socialize and played a "add your own sentence" game with new yelper Jason who was Victoria M's +1. I can't retell the entire story but basically it started with Jason ordered fried chicken and Victoria lost her virginity which forever changed her relationship with KFC. I cannot even explain how awesome this game was. Jason and Victoria had ordered some pupus and I nibbled on Jason's fried chicken which was OUT OF THIS WORLD good! It was so light and not greasy at all! No wonder Victoria lost her virginity over it. Okay this is not true at all, but it makes a good story doesn't it? You really had to be there. And you REALLY need to eat this fried chicken!!! Bring your virginity it may need to be traded in.

I'm a huge fan of low key bars. Bars that make me think that maybe, if I came often enough, this could be the "Cheers" bar of my life. I feel like Ground Floor is that bar. Klein, the owner, was an amazing host. I don't think he was quite expecting the 12 of us that rolled in at 7pm after the Yelp Elite Coffee Break @ Cafe Central was over, but he let us rearrange a back corned into one long trestle table so we could sit together and got us served quickly. A couple of us ordered food - fried chicken, kalbi, and garlic fries - while most of us just sipped on beers and wine. The food came in larger portions than I was expecting and was delicious. The garlic fries especially, they came with melted cheese and a chili powder and were super garlicky without actually being tossed in fried garlic. It was quiet-ish with TVs and jukebox. If I worked in downtown, I would definitely kill time here before heading home. Fridays there is live music and parking is free in the building lot after 6pm. Seriously sold.
(4)Carlee P.
Great place to hang out with friends, watch the game, and listen to live band! Karage Chicken, Kalbi, Fried Rice, and Poke was onolicious!
(4)Mark H.
Oh em eff gee. Why is it so hard to cook a burger medium?!?!? Didn't expect much when I came here. Passed by here many times since it's a block from work. Sometimes it's open, other times it isn't. Because of their unreliable hours, figured unreliable food. Their burger came dressed to impress! Ground Floor floored me with their burger! My new favorite burger in downtown! Toasted soft bun, 8 oz patty, melted cheese, onions, sh*tload of bacon, and that kabayaki sauce. Whatever kabayaki sauce is, it is good shit! The sauce perfectly complemented the beefy taste of the patty and didn't drown out the other flavors of the burger. Check out my pic, yelp.com/biz_photos/grou… . Notice the light, crunchy fries? Ahhh, damn! You want this now, huh? Life isn't perfect and neither was this burger. Cook it medium as ordered, dangnabit!! They have a special on Tuesdays for $10 burgers. If this applies for the Ground Floor burger, then this is a great deal! Add a half star and bump this review to 4.5 stars for the cuties working here! Ground Floor Burger. Try it! You will thank me afterwards!
(4)Clay Y.
First time here, parking in the lot is free after 6:00pm. Live entertainment, Deja Blu was playing, the place was packed... We had wine $6.50 a glass, we also tried the Steak poki, $18. 00 a must try but a bit pricey, bathrooms are outside. Heard the other food is ono too, I'll try it on my next vist. Staff is very friendly, one waitress/bartendress, one cook and the owner. They were taking care of the 40 customers...
(4)Erica W.
It's convienent because I work close by (a block away). I've been coming here for a few years and I've noticed that with the managment/ownership the food is relatively the same but prepared differently. For instance, their taco salad no longers comes out in a taco bowl but now just on a plate, with the taco broken into pieces and scattered on top of the salad (a la won strip style on a chinese chicken salad style). Now I come mainly on Tuesdays becaue it's Burger Tuesdays. Yes I said Burger Tuesday. For $10.00 you can get your choice of burger (Hamburger, Cheese Burger, Teriyaki Burger, Teriyaki Cheese Burger), side of either salad or fries and a soft drink. They don't ask how you want your burger cooked (i.e. medium rare, well done). Service is slow and not overly friendly - the waitress is nice when taking your order but she doesn't smile. I'll be back. On Burger Tuesdays. Not for the service. But because I want a burger.

Another well kept secret in Honolulu that you've probably driven by a thousand times. It's on the DH/Makai corner of Merchant and Richards. If it wasn't for Mark H, who lives right near here, I would never have known about it. This is a pretty small place but with a big heart. The staff have all been friendly the times I've been and the food is pretty solid. So far my favorite is the short ribs and the garlic chicken. I've also had the karaage chicken which was pretty good, too. The things on my radar are the fried chicken (since Emi considers it the best EVER and she knows her fried chicken!) and the teri salmon. They're open for lunch and dinner and close at 11pm. Nights when I'm leaving to head to work at 11p, I drive by here and there are always "the regulars" huddled up to the bar and having a laugh. Definitely a neighborhood-type place that would be cool to hang out for a drink as well as eat.
(4)John C.
I came here with just one other person because I had passed it a few times and really wanted to check it out. The serving sizes are pretty large but I think it's meant for a group of people to share. I only got the garlic friends and kalbi. The kalbi was good (thick cuts) but there was nothing special about the fries. The server was very attentive so that was good. I am willing give this place another chance if I come back with at least 4 people to eat. Maybe I would come back just to drink.
(3)Mishya J.
This place has the best teriyaki salmon salad, that I've ever tasted. Fish here is very fresh, and the owner is really picky about the fish that he serves. I've also tried their poke and that's also tasty as well, but if you don't like a little heat then I'd stay awsy from that. If they don't have the fish, then my next go to is the surf and turf bento. Tons of food, but takes forever to make. All, in all, the food here is pretty good. They're near to my work, so it's an easy place to meet up with friends. Service is super slow so come early to beat the crowd.
(3)Kendra O.
I only went there for the first time recently and really enjoyed it! Nice atmosphere and pretty good service (it gets crowded between 11:30 - noon, but can't fault the servers for that). I had the pulehu ribs which were really good! The price point is very good for Downtown. I would definitely return and recommend.
(4)Tim F.
OMG YUMMY. I was out for a walk and stubbled onto this place. The place appears to be a bar first and restaurant second. I had the garlic fried chicken. The garlic sauce was outstanding. The fried chicken was better than I'm used to. BAM! The lunch special came with white sticky rice and choice of green or macaroni salad. You're in Hawaii no brainier get the macaroni salad. Which was freakin delicious. The staff is super friendly. If you're in this part of town do stop in.
(4)Cynthia H.
I have to agree the TACO SALAD is to die for! This little hole in the wall is great for an after work stop. They have about 15 two seat-er tables and like 3 or 4, 4 seat-ers. They also have what looks like a full bar but I can't really tell since it is a small bar. Bar has a few bar stools also. Service is pretty good. They take, take out orders and are pretty fast in making the food. They also have nightly entertainment.
(4)Gary T.
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times and have been really impressed with the service. It's family owned and run with a lot of pride. Good range of choices on the menu, and swift attentive service. They really made me feel welcome here.
(4)Kimberly R.
I'm only giving them a 3 star rating based on one experience. Their poke was a little overpriced for the amount they give you. And it was salty for my taste. I wish I had ordered something else then maybe my review would be different. Their garlic chicken was not garlic chicken like. It tasted more peanut like than it did garlic like. The first serve we had was friendly, but I felt like the other server was rushing us.

I only went there for the first time recently and really enjoyed it! Nice atmosphere and pretty good service (it gets crowded between 11:30 - noon, but can't fault the servers for that). I had the pulehu ribs which were really good! The price point is very good for Downtown. I would definitely return and recommend.

(4)Andre D.
Good burgers! Right up there with the best on da island. Great atmosphere, service and prices.

Great place to hang out with friends, watch the game, and listen to live band! Karage Chicken, Kalbi, Fried Rice, and Poke was onolicious!

Love it here, owner tells it like it is, pretty chill live music. Older crowd, downtown after work vibe and great food. Owner is a formers Roys chef. Small place but nice. I love the burgers and pulehu.
(5)K M.

(2)Nam K.
(4)Gee Gee M.
(4)Alyssa M.

Overall experience- 4 out of 5 stars (nice place, nice people)
(4)J. C.
The cheeseburger was overcooked (eventhough I asked for "medium" temperature), but taste was not bad. They don't give much grilled mushrooms (only 4 thin slivers). Fries are a little soggy. Don't bother with the ahi belly - too small (about 3 ounces).
(2)Kirk K.
(4)Gary T.
I've been to this restaurant a couple of times and have been really impressed with the service. It's family owned and run with a lot of pride. Good range of choices on the menu, and swift attentive service. They really made me feel welcome here.
