It seems from the prior reviews of this place that the management doesn't make use of social media, or just doesn't care. Went here in the afternoon and there were less than 6 people here. Three plates of food on the conveyor belt (which should have been a clue). We sat down and waited for roughly 10 minutes before the "waiter" came by and took our drink orders, we also ordered our food at the same time, roughly 10 plates worth as it was my family (wife +2 kids) that were eating. 5 minutes later we get our drinks and the order of soybeans. Which were dried out and looked like they had been part of the great harvest during the Depression. Dried out, old, browning and quite chewy. Roughly 25 minutes later and we ask one of the black shirts about our food, we were then told that the order had not been put in. During the 40 minutes that we were seated there were no new plates put on the conveyor belt, the same three items had orbited enough to put NASA to shame, 2 bowls of karaage chicken and 1 plate of ahi sushi (which was slightly pink and excessively dry around the edges). While they were kind enough to let us leave w/o having to pay for our sodas and soy beans I would not be so inclined to give them a second chance. Management needs to take a proactive role here, the wait help was lost, the cleanliness of the prep area was debatable and it seems apparent from other reviews that the owners and/or management here NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER AND FIX YOUR RESTAURANT!

What a terrible Genki Sushi branch! Tea was served lukewarm, and the service worse than lousy! I walked out once because they forgot about me. Also, they cut the corner on preparing the Shishamu, used the food warmer instead of frying them! I do not think this place will last, just like the Shabu Shabu Bangkok place in Kaimuki. Let's see.

I have been here about half a dozen times since they opened. Last night was the worst. When we arrived at about 7p, we expected it to be packed. Only one couple in the whole place?! Was wondering if we didn't get the Yelp bulletin or something. Sure enough, the sushi on the conveyor was looking worn. The maguro was dry and dark along the edges of the neta, not good. Everything we asked for was missing. Do you have wine? No just beer. Kirin and bud light. Ok Kirin. .......3 minutes later. Sorry we only have bud light. Nevermind. Can we go next door to the liquor shop and BYOB? No sorry. Ok. Let me have the chawanmushi. We're out. Sorry. Goodbye! We left.

We like coming here for lunch. My son loves sushi. We mostly end up ordering from the wait help, which, they are always very attentive and come by to see if we need anything. The conveyor belt has things on it, but the same ole things, and not everything on the menu. When we order, the stuff comes out pretty quick. We like it here. The only complaint, when I got udon... it was sooooooooooooo little bit and super super cold! I hate sending food back, just in case something bad happens to the food, if you know what I mean.. but I thought, I'll take the risk, cuz it's expensive and I couldn't stand it cold.. literally, it was cold! Got it back and it was just as cold. The next time we went, my mom got a miso soup. The darn thing was cold. Everything else is fine, just don't get the soups. Or just warn them that you like it super hot. It's a fun place to go and kid friendly!

Okie... I'm giving 1 star cause our waitress was busting her butt to keep the orders coming to practically all the tables! It looked like our waitress was working the whole place! The other two were goofing off most of the dang time and never came our side. If it wasn't for her I'd put a half star if i could. The waitresses were doing most of the ordering and bringing food to the tables. Isn't that what the conveyor belt is for???... The belt to bring the sushi to you... Not the waitress??? Ok, maybe the waitress for The special stuff, but come on... A whole tray of sushi?? Gimme a break!!! The guys in the back were fast.... A little sloppy, but fast none the less. BUT there was this one guy making food that was openly coughing and sneezing... Without covering his mouth!! He sounded sick and he was still making food! The guys in the back were only making orders for the waitresses. There were no sushi going on the conveyor belt... Ok well, they did put MAYBE one or two times, but nothing after that. We kept seeing the same sushi going around and around for the entire time we were there (approx 1hour). We asked for miso soup the first time we ordered with the waitress and she passed by us about 2-3 times afterwards and still didn't bring us the soup. We asked her again if we can have a miso soup and she asked "oh! you didn't get it yet?" I was thinking to myself, "uhh nooo... do you see an empty bowl on the freaken table???" Then you see her going to the back and making a bowl right then and there. Not sure if she was initially suppose to have done it OR if the guys in the back were suppose to have. This is the worse Genki I've been to! I took my girlfriend here (it was her first time to Genki) and telling her Genki is a pretty good place to eat and has plenty of food on the belt and usually No problems waiting for food. NOT WITH THIS PLACE! I won't go to this Genki again. The one in Waiau is better. This place wasn't even that busy.

Service is very poor. After waiting 20 minutes with two starving kids, we were passed over and they had the audacity to say we were not around when they called us. We were sitting in front of the podium the whole time!!! Total B.S. No apology , they. Said the wait would be another 15 minutes. We walked out! I think when they greet customers they are saying, " Ira shai my ass" After reading similar reviews I don't know if it is worth my time to call/write to their cooperate office.

Ordered take-out from here because my brother was craving. The service was great, the young boys over the counter were really nice. I loved that the tuna salad sushi was just over spilling with tuna.. I love tuna like it's not anyone's business. Like seriously, I love tuna. They were not stingy with their sushi at all, which is great! The same goes for their spicy ahi, they really give it you. I will definitely come back here and give the sit and dine experience a try.

  • Anna L.

Let's start with the positive--Seared Ahi, Garlic Chicken, and Chicken Karage. YUM. Negative- the service. One dude in particular that hangs in the back with the black polo shirt is particularly rude. All the workers seem like they hate their jobs. You also don't get your food when you order it, and also drink your water slowly because you're going to WAIT for that refill. Boy I tell ya. Don't bother asking for tea either. I always leave here only sem-satisfied, but when I crave those things above, and want it fast, this is the spot.

Favorite Sushi on the East side. Love the new stuff they add on the Menu!!

  • Chels C.

I was so excited to eat here after coming home from college! ...Not the friendliest workers. I came at a slow time and so there weren't many other people eating there (about 5 other people), they had WAY too much food going around. Everytime someone grabbed a plate they would quickly make another sushi plate and fill out the space... way to waste food. I had to stop the waiter and ask for water and then stop him again and ask for sushi. I was surprised they didn't come by and ask us what we wanted first. Meh, I've experienced better Genki's. Not coming back to this one for awhile..

Have eaten at Aina Haina Genki Sushi several times since they opened. Always disappointed until last week... Way better!! The food was fresh and temperature appropriate off the belt. The food we ordered was hot and arrived quickly. The servers were better than ever, polite and professional, quick and thorough. Two of us got full for less than $25!! Keep up the great work!

    (4)
  • Jan T.

I love genki! I never have any complaints about their food (but then again, I never take items off the belt-- I'll just order through the servers)...I love that they have new items constantly, and I especially love their dynamite rolls! can't forget about the spicy tuna...my absolute fav!! Service (at all locations, not just this one) is usually a hit or miss. It really just depends on who you get as your server. I've learned that no 2 servers are alike. This location isnt as big as other locations (like waikele), but I don't mind much...keep my water filled and get my order right and I'm all good. All in all...I love genki sushi and I do like this location..I'll be back again.

    (3)
  • Sara T.

I've never actually dined in here, but I order take out frequently on my way home. Genki is pretty pricey, but I'm usually just craving a few items (spicy ahi roll, inari), so I never drop too much money here. I've never had a problem with the staff, food, or wait time. I'll update when I finally dine in here, maybe my star rating will change...

  • Gene K.

I've become a fan of Genki Sushi simply because of the ability to get your food rather quickly. The conveyor belt should take care of that problem, but here, it's a little different. I have to agree with the previous reviewer, Crissy, that the items scooting along the belt are not what I would have expected of a Genki. I saw several plates of fried octopus, fried vegetable croquette, the expensive dragon roll, and of course, wasabi. But strangely enough, there was no nigiri. They DID have, however, little placards on stands on the plates advertising their desserts. Cute, I suppose. There are good things about the place, though. It's brand new, so it's clean and smells nice (important in a restaurant!). We were seated right away at lunch time. We immediately got our cups of hot green tea and glasses of water. They immediately took our order, and as we took a quick scan at what was rolling around (and DIDN'T see), we ordered our usual favorites: abalone salad, scallop mayo, ika, spicy bomb, and several others that I can't recall right now. Funny, but after we ordered those things, we almost immediately got our orders and saw them placing 3 of each of our orders on the conveyor belt. It's too late for that, but at least it's fresh. The bathroom is super clean which is nice. The coat hanger in the bathroom is about crotch level and the door handle to the main entrance is also, so I suppose the place is wheelchair accessible. I'd go back here in a pinch since it's close to home, but if I'm out, I'd rather go to another Genki.

THIS. LOCATION. FREAKING. SUCKS. my friends sat around for around 10min waiting for SOMEONE to walk by and get our check. There was only one more table filled besides us. service terribly sucks. seriously. corporate, please do something.

I love Genki Sushi but not this location. I went this weekend when it was very slow, not packed whatsoever. I've been here several times and have overlooked the lack of service but this time was just the worst. Because I like Genki overall, I will give it 2 stars, but this location is just one of the worst I've been to. Firstly, there seem to only be high schoolers working there who either have bad attitudes or are not interested in giving good service. Sure, there are the few exceptions but for the most part, the service here is lacking. When you look for a manager, there is rarely ever one working...why, I don't know. What has bothered me is that lately, you go in and there are limited items going around the conveyor belt. I saw the same dishes going around and around and no one was eating them. The cooks and staff either didn't care or didn't notice but they kept cooking the same thing. Sure you can order items like I did but good luck finding a server to come to your table to take your order. Even if they do take it, there's no guarantee you'll get it.... I ordered chicken karaage and miso soup and they "forgot"....and this was on a day where it wasn't busy whatsoever.... I just don't care for this location, Ward is much better!

  • Mako H.

New location just opened in the Aina Haina shopping center, next to foodland, in the old komakata location. place is brand new so nice layout and clean, bar seems to better situated than some of the others. fish is fresh and they have a new baked scallop on top of shrimp tempura that was very nice, and service is good. lots of parking, so far the best of the Genki's but only time will tell, i hope they keep it up

    (4)
  • Mia N.

I haven't eaten at the location, but I've done take out and been pretty satisfied with the product. They have this spicy ahi mix that you can take out and it's really tasty. I like that it is in a convenient location with lots of parking and the wait staff seem nice. Someday maybe I'll actually eat at the restaurant itself.

This has seriously got to be the WORST Genki ever! We were starving so we thought Genki would be the BEST place to get quick food! WRONG! Mind you, it was way after the lunch rush ! Barely any sushi on the belt, and whatever they DID have going around and around, looked like yesterdays leftovers! Ugh! The girl who helped us looked like we were bothering her "filling the chopsticks and shoyu duty"! WTH?! We waited quite awhile before she finally stopped her chopstick refilling duty and saw our sushi orders waiting to be served! As for the tea ... It was sooo watery, maybe they were conserving for the dinner crowd? Chicken karaage was so burnt , really couldn't taste the darn chicken! This is the best part.... While everyone was patiently waiting for their orders, the servers and managers were busy In the back of the restaurant posing for pictures!!!! WTH!!!!! Took all of me not to fling my wasabi plate at them !! Never ever going there again!!!

Worst Genki experience ever. Friday afternoon. Conveyor was totally empty and nothing was added during the half hour I was there. Did not get some of the things I ordered and heard people next to me say they did not get what they ordered. I go to other Genki locations often and they are pretty good for what they are- fast, high turnover, good variety. Not sure if this was an off day, very off, or if this particular location (Aina Haina) is having problems.

  • Chelle L.

My boyfriend and I usually come here for dinner dates and it's always awesome, but one day we came in for lunch and we were pretty disappointed... First of all, the same food was still on the belt that had been there before we even got there. And they only added some steamed edamame towards the end.. But the portions on the sushi apparently had a cutback seeing as on a roll I ordered only 3/4 pieces had salmon on top and instead of being over-flowing bite size pieces they were just that... Very dissapointing.

  • Ketchum H.

Went in solo about 11:30...only three counter seats and there is one guy taking the middle seat and he does not look like he wants anything to do with anybody...so, I wait a bit and get the massive counter to myself...the sushi train has pulled out early and there is hardly a passenger...that being the movable line of sushi that travels the joint offering the goods...apparently, in this location of Genki Sushi you are supposed to order off the menu...that is fine, but that is not what I expected or really wanted...turned out to be good but by the time I had finished I had spent a bit more than I wanted to originally...not a big deal...it was good and easy...check out the ball cap with their logo face...!

Cheap, fast-food sushi, but delicious! The service is great here, and it's a cool place to go with friends or family. I like the rotating food, but sometimes I see the same thing go around a hundred times! Also, some of the dishes look unappetizing, but I guess it's good to be able to pick and choose exactly what I want.

  • Sarah B.

Lunch on a Monday and this place was pretty quiet. No problems with service although there wasn't much sushi on the belt. We chose to order off the menu instead. We had baked mussels, garlic salmon nigiri, unagi nigiri, and some other roll I can't recall the name of. Everything tasted fine and our waitress was cool. Our drinks were refilled often and there was no problem with the food. This restaurant is on the same level as Chili's; casual, not fancy at all, quick service, pretty standard lack of ambience.

  • Angela D.

This place is like sushi boat, there isn't many variations of sushi that goes around but you can order the ones that you don't see. Some sushi weren't on the menu that came out, so I didn't know what I was eating but it looked good. Prices are decent, just like sushi boat, the trays are colored so you know what price they are. You can rack up a pretty high bill if you are hungry without realizing it. One plate after another with just two sushi on a plate.

  • Dave T.

Went there at around 11:00 am with a group of six. Only two other customers there. There wasn't anything on the belt besides cupbacks (from next door, I guess) and bottled drinks. About 5 mins later some deep fried shrimp comes. Another 2-3 minutes, finally some salmon comes around. Problem was that they had not much on the belt, so we ordered what we wanted. They were out of hamachi and tamago. Anway, we had our fill of salmon, that's for sure. Service was friendly and attentive with our cups of tea often filled up.

  • M Y.

I think this place has gone down-hill as far their service, cleanliness, quality of food. We tried not to go for a while because it was always crowded and service was always a so-so. Tonight was definitely a bad "sushi experience" This place has gotten worse. Our table is about 10 feet away from a rubbish container next to a broom and dust pan on top of rubbish on the floor. There was a pack of chopsticks and napkins left on top of the display. We waited for 10 minutes even though there was an open table but left unclean for a while. When we sat, our table was still damp from the wet rag they used to wipe it. Then we had to stop the server to get our drinks order because no one was coming to us. We asked for shoyu dishes and they said they were still in the dishwasher. We ordered miso soup and never came. Maybe bowls were also being washed. When we checked out the kitchen behind the counter, the servers were all there talking stories. No manager on sight. I have never seen one from the time this place opened. There were all young people who were over-worked, or just didn't care working there. They were not at all friendly. It seemed like we owed them a favor for eating there. Never again!

The food at genki is always the same, so it basically always good. The sushi on the belt (what little there was) was pretty nasty looking. The inari looked like it was melting. It's kind of understandable though considering the place isn't that busy so you can't just make a bunch of sushi that's not going to be eaten. You're better off ordering food & it comes out great. The service though... Every server there acts like they've never had a serving job & don't understand the concept of good service = good tips. They all act like fresh out of high school punks who just want you to leave. Or better yet, don't even come in. It's pretty embarrassing since they were all black shirts (which are the supervisors). Like wow must not be hard to get promoted here huh. If you're reading this, HEY doesn't hurt to smile you know. Or at least be polite. ANYWAY. They have draft beer here which is $2 or $11 a pitcher which is pretty awesome. Wouldn't ever come back here though, when Genki Kapahulu, Ala Moana, or Waikele (probs the best) have awesome service for a cheap sushi restraunt.

Horrible service. Waited for a table. When seated, the booth seats were covered in rice. Servers walked right on by and didn't ask if we wanted to order. Unsanitary!!! Don't eat the ginger in the little boxes on the table. One of the servers whiled the table and picked up the tongs used to grab the ginger off the table and placed it right back in to the box. Didn't even bother to get a new CLEAN tong or even wash it. Gross.

Worst service at any Genki to date. I dont know if they were short-handed that night or what. No employee looked over 22. We got there, put our name on the list and waited.....waited....waited....17 minutes later we got the 2 open counter seats that were open the entire time we were there. And then this is what was going by on the belt: wasabi, arizona, cupcakes, mochi. No sushi. Took another 10-15 minutes for a server to take our order. Some sushi trickled out after that but whats the point in having the conveyor if youre not gonna stock it??

I usually love eating at genki but the service here didn't seem that great! The waiters weren't too friendly at all! They forgot one of my dishes that I ordered and didn't service us water! The staff here really don't make the customers feel welcome! Don't get me wrong the foods good but the service sucks! Genki at another location would probably be best!!!!!!!!

my mom and I went here lastnight and the service was terrible. We were seated in the back and we were waiting 10 minutes minimum for the server to ask us what we wanted to order. This place is really unsanitary. The ginger in the containers and the tongs were filthy. My mom ordered tea and the tea smelt like fish water from the tank and the cup was dirty. The wait for the things we ordered was long too. If I didn't live 5 minutes away I would've made the trip to the one at Ala Moana. Honestly if I knew how bad the service was and how filthy the place was beforehand then I would've made the drive to Ala Moana's genki.

I've always had positive experiences at the Aina Haina location. Expect a wait during peak times, but otherwise, if you come mid-morning or mid-afternoon, there will be tables available and quick service.

We decided to try the Hawaii Kai genki location while we were in town and were a little disappointed with the experience. Our initial server was very shy and did not bring me a water as I had asked. While we waited for our food, for some reason all fried items arrived first before any nigiri or rolls. When they did arrive the had been poorly made and were falling apart on the plate. My boyfriend also found that his water cup was chipped and cracked in multiple places on the lip. Later on, we witnessed two employees make themselves food in the sushi station and eat it. One who proceeded to walk out onto the floor very obviously chewing a mouth full of food in front of guests (found out later his name was Drew). This server then stood next to us and laid his head on the sushi train overhead and chatted very loudly to other coworkers as we were eating. Poor and unprofessional service and for the first time we left unsatisfied with our genki experience .

Wait time is longer than usual. Service -- ? ?? blah... they lost the good workers.. Food Price -- menu price went up (quality not there) Something happened there.. either change of management or POOR management that made the 'better' staffing and service leave.

i dont know why this place has such a bad rating. seriously, genki is only gonna get like 4 stars in general. they do have sushi, but if you are looking for the better items, it is gonna be like the ocean salad, spicy tuna, garlic salmon and such. you are not going there for toro or something. the service is alright and something you would expect from a corporation running a revolving sushi restaruarnt. idk, good IMHO, but idk why they have two stars

Worst location ever. Every time we go...for some odd reason they forget to bring our food. I swear every single time. Today was what had me write this review. We ordered our food and 2 other tables came in and ordered their food as well and I seen them receive everything while we never got our food! I had to flag down the workers to ask them for it! Annoying. Idk how hard it is to torch salmon but im sure it isnt that hard and sticking rice in a bowl with a scoop of poke. I could understand if it were busy but it wasnt. Workers every where standing around talking! We wont be back to this location. Totally sucks ass!! Also how hard is it to refill water! I work in the food service business and I understand urgency and giving good customer service. It would help if they didnt have such young workers no one looked like they cared to even work and looked like no one was even in charge. No tip was given for us. I dont tip bad service.

Used to really like coming here as long as we beat the lunch crowd on the weekends. Sure, it's almost all kids that work here, but the service wasn't terrible and it was quick sit-down sushi. Unfortunately, it's gotten TERRIBLE. The service is rushed, the wait staff doesn't seem to care, and this place is always dirty. Watching them bus tables to try to get people seated as fast as possible is enough to make you lose your appetite. Not to mention you see them run in the back to put dirty dishes in the kitchen then run back out to deliver plates to tables. They're not in the kitchen long enough to wash their hands. We even saw one of the waiters, Drew (no actual name tag, just a label stuck directly on his shirt), carry a plate of sushi while carrying a dirty bus tub at the same time. Did he deliver it to the table like that? Yep. Sure did. Disgusting. Not sure how this place got the green "pass" from the health department...maybe the reviewer didn't sit down and actually eat here. If you don't mind building up your immune system with all the nasty from the waitstaff, feel free to give this place a try.

Had to do a drop off in the area, of course of all places we ended up eating at Genki's. The workers seems a bit disorganized since we weren't sure which booth they wanted us to sit at. We just sat at the first open one. From there, I started looking at the plates coming around and when I pulled the fried squid combo... I realized there were no chopsticks! Sat there staring at my food and the belt until a waiter came by. By then I already knew what I wanted and we still didn't have our cups of water. Slow. Some plates came out quickly than some that were ordered first. Had to ask about it again, just in case they had forgotten. The food is always good and by the end the service got better.

Sadface. I love Genki, but each time I've been here it's been disappointing. Everytime I've gone here it was slow and we get little to no service, or they forget our orders. The turning pt was with our last visit. My bf and my fave sushi is the Hamachi, and it was not listed on the board as "out" for the day. Naturally, we order it, but the girl quickly responds "oh we are out of hamachi today." We are a little sad, but whatever, move on and eat other sushi. At the end of our meal, we see the same girl bring a plate out to the next table that very much resembles hamachi.. Us: is that hamachi? Her: (rude) yea Us: I thought you were out of that today Her: I guess not *walks away* WTF!!!!

This Genki Sushi is really the worst Genki location ever. In general, you don't go to Genki to get high quality sushi. You go because you like the cool conveyor belt, and you like their variety. But the bottom line is that the conveyor belt sushi looks dank, like it's been sitting out there forever, so you order from the menu anyway, and you only end up ordering the same things that you like so does the variety really even matter? Plus it's not that cheap. All that aside, this location really takes the cake for being the worst. They are always out of something, and are ridiculously slow. When eating in, the service doesn't seem to be so bad, but when you're doing take-out, that's another story. The last time I went was around 8pm (out of desperation might I add) and it was pretty empty. I ordered 2 spicy ahi dons and 1 kabocha tempura take out... somehow it took 20+ minutes for me to get my food. This is after I saw the 2 spicy ahis come out almost instantaneously. They were just sitting on the take-out counter. The counter boys were chilling, talking story, not even manning the tables because there weren't a lot of customers at the time. It's all guys that work here basically. But that's not the point, the point is just that while my spicy ahis were sitting there, no one was making the tempura. Finally after 15 minutes the register boy realized that I was STILL waiting for my food so he went to go check on it and I saw him say to the kitchen crew "what you guys never started the tempura!??" About 5 minutes after he said sorry the tempura is coming, and I finally got my order. Congratulations, I am officially 100 years old. I didn't make a fuss about it but honestly I was very tired after work and just wanted food. The spicy ahi is okay, but that's because they cover it in sauce so you can't tell if their fish is fresh. At peak hours, there's always a wait here. I would NEVER wait for this location. I would much rather drive a little further to Kurukuru at Kahala Mall instead of settling for this shiz.

It's not even busy and they've forgotten our food three times. No one has checked us after we've gotten our food and asked if we're doing alright as well as asking is if we'd like to order anything else.

My family and I come to this Genki all the time. Jaimie S doesn't know what he or she is talking about. The quality of food is good and it is a nice family friendly atmosphere. In fact I have had Drew as a server on many occasions. He is always friendly and polite. He also appears to me to be a conscientious worker. It is always a pleasant experience to have him as a server. All of the the staff at Genki are professional and courteous. My family and I will continue to patronize this establishment.

The service is really poor here. My girlfriend and I ordered four simple sushi dishes and only received two of them. We waited patiently for the other two (garlic ebi) dishes to come out, but it never came. We asked about three times about the status of our food and it still did not come. After the fifth time asking about our food we received our food and it was really unappetizing. We never want to come back here again.

For cheap sushi, this place is great. The quality of the fish actually isn't bad at all. I never ever ever eat anything off the conveyor belt at any genki sushi I go to. I always order everything from the server because then it's made fresh for you and tastes wayyyy better. I always order the ahi, salmon and tobiko and have never had a problem with them being fishy tasting or stringy which is a lot to say for sushi that costs so little. The service can be a bit up and down. They're usually good about checking on you to see if you want to order something but once you want to get the check it's like they're no where to be found haha. Maybe they want you to keep eating? Haha. The staff is friendly and I've never had a waiter who was rude. My friend and I even walked in to eat at 8:45pm when they close at 9pm and the staff wasn't rude about it. I also like coming to this location because there's usually no wait to sit down and the food comes out pretty quickly once you order it. Definitely coming back here again.

When genki first opened in Hawaii, their spicy ahi was so good as i remembered. I moved to cali and came back to Hawaii reminiscing about genkis spicy ahi.. but today i can tell that the quality has gone down. Had their spicy ahi bowl and idk why they drench it with unagi sauce. Just taste soooo salty and gross. Genki Sushi is not genki...!

I really don't know why there is so much haters. I really like this place as it isn't as crowded as their Kapahulu location which is closer to my house but I actually drive down to this location. The service is really good here. I can't remember my server's name but she was awesome. This comes from a person who worked as waiter from casual all the way up to fine dinning. If I had a restaurant I would hire her and her co-worker as well. So yes, this isn't going to be the best sushi you could possibly ever eat but for value it is pretty good. It's your typical conveyor belt sushi place but you can place your order with the waitress/waiter help if you don't see what you want on the belt or if you want more. This location serves a couple different types of beer only. I like to get their spicy tuna bowl and their chicken. Hmmm just thinking about it is making me hungry. They are located in the Aina Hina Shopping Center 820 W. Hind Drive Honolulu, HI 96821 Ph: (808) 373-4033 Hours: Sun - Thur 11am -9pm Fri - Sat 11am - 10pm

I'm not really sure why this location got such bad reviews. We've been going here since it opened awhile back and maybe it's because we always go at around the same time so the same people are working but we've never had a bad meal here. The employees are friendly and always come by to check if we want to order anything or need more water, etc. The only complaint I have is that sometimes there's hardly anything going around the belt. I usually find it easier to just order with a waiter. Overall, this is one of my favorite Genki locations.

This place is "okay" if you want average (or dare I say below average?) quality sushi, decent service, and crave the atmosphere of conveyor belt sushi - although you're going to end up ordering off their menu because there's really nothing that great coming off the conveyor belt. I've had a much better experience at other Genki Sushi's, and you can even get higher quality sushi at somewhere like Kozo Sushi. The nigiri sushi at this location (such as the ahi tuna) is of pretty average/below-average quality - really thin, cheap slices. Service here wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. Our group ended up ordering the majority of our dishes (ahi nigiri, spicy ahi bowl, spicy ahi nigiri, fried squid, tempura roll, etc.) off of the menu because it didn't even show up on the conveyor belt. In terms of what you pay, I'd suggest trying somewhere else if you really want good sushi. If you're stuck in the Aina Haina area and are just craving that experience of being near a conveyor belt and eating sushi, then you can give this place a go.

When I eat at a Genki Sushi, I expect the sushi to taste the same as the one I've eaten at every other Genki Sushi. I want to depend on that. Unlike other Genkis, the pickled ginger at this location is on the conveyor belt and not on the table. When I picked up the box from the belt, there wasn't a pair of tongs in the box. Oh, oh. Are people really using their own chopsticks to grab the ginger? I wondered. Back went the box of ginger on the conveyor belt. Disappointment #1 There was a trainee working the night that I went, and service was chaotic. You know how your teacup is never empty at the Kapahulu Genki? I had to ask for refills twice at this location. Then I had to ask for more water. And finally, I had to stop someone to get my check. When I asked a question about a type of sushi, the trainer and the trainee looked at each other and said, "We'll have to check on that for you." Disappointment #2 Sadly, the sushi at the Aina Haina location falls short. I ordered a tempura California roll off the menu because I wanted to make sure it was hot. By the time the server dropped off my plate, the tempura was already cold and not crispy. Disappointment #3. It was 5:30 PM when I walked in, so it wasn't very busy yet. I don't dare go back to give this place a second chance. Maybe if I see the yelp reviews are getting more positive ... .

I am a frequent diner at this location, and love the food, atmosphere and hospitality. I drive out to Aina Haina from the Punahou area, bypassing many other dining options just to eat at this Genki. Drew with his styling haircuts has been my server the last 3 times I've come and has been pleasant and courteous. The entire staff at this Genki is service oriented, accomodating, and friendly. My go-to sushi spot.

This genki sushi like all the rest has really lost their quality. Their food looks cheaper and cheaper quality all the whole their service sinks to a new low. The restaurant in general is just dying in my opinion. Some of the kids work here do try , but I feel they just aren't trained right. The others seem to hate their jobs. I don't eat here anymore its just not fun like genki use too be.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place; love it because my son learned to like sushi here and it's fairly cheap. Hate it because of the spotty service and selection; it can definitely be a crapshoot of what is going to be available that day; the day we went they were out of Ahi and Udon...how can you run out of those at 1:30 in the afternoon?? The place was far from crowded but took a while for the waitress to get around to us for drinks. Of course the kids go straight for the conveyor and grab their favorites. I get a couple of rolls (Dragon and Ebi Tempura) that were decent; kids shared with me as well. My wife, who is not a fan of Sushi, went for the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl which was disappointing; 1) Size (very small even though it is less than $3) and lack of chicken. Also, (and maybe I should have asked) but is it too hard to serve warm Edamame vs. cold? All in all, Genki served up a little less than what I expected; I knew it wasn't Morimoto's but expected a little better.

WHAT is this spring special going on?! I am coming to genki everyday until it ends. All plates are discounted mon-thursdays!! This location is always out of things I like... :( the last time I went, they were out of croquette, mussels and ebi!! Another time I went, they were out of Spicy ahi! I am still a loyal customer to genki, although I probably frequent the kapahulu or ala moana locations more. Last night was pretty awkward though. I went with my family; my dad is white and my mom is asian. The hostess like wouldnt let my mom sit down with us because I guess she thought my mom was in a different party.....awk!!

Genki has always been OK in my book as a place to grab a cheap meal. The sushi here may not be the best, but it's got some pretty good finds. I try to avoid picking sushi off the conveyer belt, which probably defeats the purpose of going here, but by ordering you get sushi that is fresh(er) than what has been sitting out. I really like the chawanmushi here and the miso soup for some reason! They also have a good spicy tuna bowl and other good nigiri for cheap. The servie here has always been friendly and great. They do get crowded though, so the wait can be a while, but this location seems to move along pretty fast.

Go here for the spicy tuna and regular tuna rolls not for the nigiri. Don't go here for quality service or sushi. Revolving sushi bar and order what you don't find on the belt.

I feel it's time to update my review as I have seen improvements to this location. Because it's a very convient location for me, I still go for cheap sushi. The staff has changed (I've always expect this with these types of establishments). Good thing too, they are a lot nicer and more efficient. I can never compare this to a "real" sushi bar. It is what it is.....their spicy tuna is my favorite here. Next, it's got to be the seared ahi. I never feel guilty eating here because it's very affordable. When it's affordable, you can't complain if it's not the best you ever had. You get what you pay for right? Well, most of the time.

It's like paying fo' da whole cow, but you end up getting stuck with da testicles. You go in expecting: - decently sized portions - reasonable prices - relatively OK service You end up getting: - portions that'd been drastically reduced - inflated prices - non-existent service 11 AM, Saturday, right before the lunch crowd. Dey get mo' cooks (3-4) prepping sushi den dey get cashiers/servers (2); wouldn't be so bad if da lunch crowd neva come in & da cashiers/servers were swamped. 5-7 min. to get my receipt, another 5-7 min. to pay. Been eating at Genki fo' over a decade now & portions have gotten mo' manini while prices have increased. Even cashier admitted dat choke people notice & were disgruntled about it, but it was a management decision (not theirs). After spending $12 & still hungry as heck, I decided to stop eating & wanted to head to McDonald's across da way & get several $1 chicken burgers to make up da difference. P.S. Wrote a letter to their corporate office expressing my displeasure 3 weeks ago & neva hear back from dem. Afta dis, I taking my testicles ($$$) & eating elsewea from now on. REVIEW #174

I have given this restaurant 2 or 3 chances but they failed every time. No cheerful greeting when you arrive. Wait seems to be long for them to seat you and when you are seated not much of a selection on the conveyor belt. I have been to other Genki and am satisfied with the food and good service. I don't know why just this restaurant fails in the food and service category. You would think since they have no competition in the area that they would be happy for business. I end up driving farther to the Kapahulu store or going to Kuru Kuru just to avoid this place.

I love this place!!! Although it isn't the best sushi, it's inexpensive, always clean, and the waitstaff is great. They check on how you're doing and refill your drinks regularly. It's a belt sushi restaurant, but you're able to get it cooked to order. It always comes out nice and fresh! It's family and children friendly, but does have Kirin and Bud Light on tap (which are on happy hour special between 2pm or 3pm and ends at 6pm). They have many long tables for big parties and a smaller area to sit directly at the belt. I loveeeeee the spicy bomb and spicy tempura! Yummmmm!

For some reason, over the past year, it seems that the sushi at this Genki location has gotten better as compared to Kuru Kuru (Kahala location only), which has gone slightly down hill. In general I like their hamachi, unagi, abalone salad, tobiko, spicy tuna gunkan, garlic ebi and soft shell crab roll. Also, for the first time, I sampled their poke bowl and ika geso karaage. Stay away from their poke bowl, it is flavorless. In addition, the tuna pieces are tiny, almost to the point where you need a microscope to seem them. The portion size of the karaage was generous; the ika was slightly chewy, but had decent flavor. The service was okay, but not great.

My son has finals all week so he is out a little before 11am ... perfect to grab lunch out all together before my daughters nap. He picked Genki Sushi near our house - I had previously only had take out so was looking forward to trying the "sit down" meal. So we got a nice welcome & they got us seated & set up with a high chair very quickly ... they had about 5 other tables occupied and as we ate the place filled up. We had three different servers coming by and checking on us - they were VERY friendly ...made sure our drinks were refilled & promptly bringing out the orders from the kitchen as they did not have everything we wanted on the conveyor belt. They apologized for being out of several fried items & tofu BUT in hind sight they saved me the calories !!! We tried the spicy tempura roll, ebi, avacado maki, unagi, spicy tuna bowl, gyoza, chicken karaage, crab, tobiko, hamachi, etc. It was very filling and pretty decent .... they were kid friendly and I liked that it was comfortable & clean !!! only con : for some reason they were blaring techno music that made me hyped up - maybe helps them turn tables quicker ?

DON'T EAT HERE BECAUSE THEY MESS WITH YOUR FOOD AND THE MANAGER SHOW LITTLE CONCERN. My family and I were eating here and I ordered a chicken karaage, I saw the my order on the counter ready to go. I then saw one of the workers in the back take my order to the back where they wash dishes. I saw the worker dig into the trash can and pick up a piece of trash with his bare hands. At this time, he saw me staring at him and he threw down the trash, grabbed my order with the same hand he touch the trash with and put it back on the counter. I'm glad I caught him before he could do anything else. But I can't help but think what worse things he would of or have done. The manager was the one to serve me that plate, I told him I wanted another one because of what I saw. He stood there dumbfounded not knowing what to say and said "ok" I saw him go into the back and talk to the worker. After the talk to the worker, the worker began to start making a lot of noise in the back and I could hear stacks of dishes falling. After a while, I see the same person grab my new order with his bare wet dirty hands. This person was still washing dishes and picking up trash. Once I got my order I had it and told them I don't want it. The manager asked me if he did it again. I told him what I saw and he responded with a "oh sorry." The manager then headed straight to his office and I didn't see him for the rest of the night. I left being very disappointed. I wrote to their main office of my experience and got a letter from the store manager saying sorry and I need to understand that he can't be at his store and know everything that goes on. Are you kidding me, why should I eat there when you just told me that you don't have control of your staff and don't know what is going. I have decided that I no longer will be dining at this location again.

This Genki location gets a high rating due to the location and the availability of parking but The quality of the sushi pulls this location down with a 2 rating. We have dined at the Genki at Ala Moana center and the sushi when ordered fresh comes out with very crispy nori wrapping and super tasty toppings. It is very apparent that this location is lacking the same quality as some of their busier stores. The staff is friendly and the service attention level is good.

I think I would give 3.5 stars. Not the best sushi, but hey, nobody expects that when they walk in the door. The guys here were super nice and we had good service throughout. And did I mention they serve beer at this location? Spicy tuna bowl was pretty good. Unagi was served cold, not a fan. Overpriced compared to Kuru Kuru, but Genki has way more locations.

Went to Aina Haina location and I wasn't thrilled at all. I went for a late dinner so we got there about two hours before closing, it was pretty slow. They ran out of ahi which if you look at the menu kind limits the things you can eat. I also tried the stuffed mushrooms, MISTAKE. It doesn't look the picture at all, It's two huge mushrooms that are over stuffed with their stuffing. Also since it so big the mushroom is half raw, and since it's big it's hard to eat it. You really need a fork and a knife to eat it. The only thing that made the place bearable was that they have alcohol, if there was no alcohol, I don't know if I could've stayed there for the entire meal.

Worst Genki on the island. The servers could care LESS about serving. The managers need to FIRE, HIRE and TRAIN. If you ask them for something they look at you like you are bothering them. Then they talk to each other about the customers. GO ELSEWHERE.

Once again a very bad experience at AH Genki. Out of various items at noon...was told 10 minute wait to open the belt, but we could seat right away if we didn't mind ordering off the menu. Sure thing, seat us now. Took them 10 minutes to come by and take our order. 10 minutes after ordering they told us out of Spicy Ahi...really? Srs? Girl kept giving us items we didn't order. Needless to say no tip was given. Manager here obviously takes no pride in his store as the staff is poorly trained on customer service.

When you go to Genki Sushi at any given hour, you expect to AT LEAST the following items on the conveyor belt: spicy ahi, tamago, something in a bowl (somen salad, karaage chicken, etc.), seaweed salad, imitation crab -- you get what I'm saying. There's a certain variety that we've all come to expect at Genki . . . which is why it's so weird that this location chose -- at noon on a Saturday -- to only have wrapped foods (mini cucumber sushi, handrolls, etc.) and some tamago on their belt. I ordered my favorite salmon skin roll and an oyster fry from the waitress and sat there for a while, waiting for the spicy ahi to come around . . . but it never did. Really weird. The guy next to me and I actually had to order a couple of rounds of spicy ahi before the sushi chefs seemed to realize they should put some out. And I had pretty much given up on my oyster fry after it failed to come out for 20 minutes -- though, sure enough, there it was as I was about ready to ask for the check. This place is really going to have to step it up if they want to keep people coming back. Per their request, I filled out a comment card. Let's hope it makes a difference!

HORRIBLE SERVICE! We used to dine here regularly, but hadn't been in awhile until yesterday. Very surprised and disappointed in the decline in service. Seemed like the same staff, but with a total lack of caring. Female server made 5 mistakes on our order of 8 items (wrong quantities and wrong items). She did not apologize, and instead acted like we were greatly inconveniencing her! Her total lack of caring was quite shocking. The two male servers each stopped at our table to ask how we were doing. When we indicated things were not going well, they quickly ran away without doing anything about it. Needless to say, the service was disturbingly poor. The quality of most of the food was still decent, except for the spicy ahi, which did not seem fresh. What a disappointment. This location is convenient for us, but we will probably not dine here again. Instead, we will drive farther to Kuru Kuru or G Sushi when we are looking for conveyor belt sushi. UPDATE 4/2/15: Service is still horrible. Different staff but still clueless. Unable to get the orders correct, super slow service.

Slim pickings, subpar cuts of fish, ginger upon request, no poke bowls, and most of all poor service. Thanks but no thanks, I'll take my business to kuru kuru.

Whenever I'm looking for a just a little taste of sushi, I'll head to Genki. (This is mainly because Kozo has just pissed me off too many times.) Anyway, it's pretty good for fast food sushi. Tonight, we tried the Aina Haina restaurant. We figured, they've been open for awhile, they should have worked out the kinks by now...right? We got seated pretty quickly considering it was pretty crowded. When we put in our order, we found out that there was no hamachi and no croquette...and that sucked, but we tried to make the best of it. Along with our order, I included a Keiki Bowl, no egg, for my son. Usually after we put in our order at Kapahulu, the sushi just starts coming, but at Aina Haina - you wait...and wait...and wait. And I'm not sure if it's a tactic so that you start eating the stuff going around and around while you wait for what you really want. And if it is, bravo...well played. But I ain't falling for that shit. So we wait. And slowly, but surely, plates arrive. So as I mentioned before, we ordered a Keiki Bowl. For those of you who are not familiar with the Keiki Bowl - it's rice, two pieces of hot dog, spam, and egg...and here's a hint - it's for KIDS, hence the name KEIKI Bowl. So you would think that the workers would know that this order is for a kid and that perhaps it should come out first because their tactic of having the other shit go around and around while we wait ain't gonna cut it for a kid...but NOOOOOO...the fricken Keiki Bowl doesn't come out until I ask our waitress for the third time if it's ready and then finally I ask her to please check with the kitchen one more time. Lo and behold - they only start working on it when she reminds them...WTF. Then I ask her for a fork - and you would think that because we've been waiting for this dish that she'd get the fork immediately, but NOOOOO...what does she do?? She starts filling up her fricken tea pot to serve tea to more people!! So I stood up and got a plastic spoon. Then she's like, "Oh, do you still need a fork?" I just answered politely, yes. Finally, she arrives with a fork. Now I understand that Genki ain't no gourmet shit. It's fast food, which means I expect it to be served promptly. Will I ever go to Genki Sushi again? Yes, I probably will. Will I ever go to Aina Haina Genki Sushi again? Hell no.

I came here for lunch and the restaurant had very few clients, yet it took us quite a while to get our selections. I was very pleased with our waiter. He was very nice and seemed happy to serve us. Too bad the kitchen staff didn't feel the same way. They were too busy talking story.

I've tried this location out a few times now, and I'm still not impressed. Whether during slow or busy times the service seems to fall short. My other half experienced getting hot green tea instead of green tea ice cream. Another time, no one seemed to pay attention to us. After many failed attempts to flag someone down to notify we're ready to pay, we could've just walked right out the door with a free meal. Of course we didn't. At first I thought, "ok give it some time and it'll get better," but I must agree with the previous reviewers that it hasn't kept up to the same level as experienced at other Genki locations.

For how much it cost it ain't that bad. If you are looking for some fancy sushi bar Genki is not the place for you. If you are a money deprived college student that is in need of some sushi, Genki is the place for you. You can get a decent meal on the conveyor belt for about 20 bucks. Not too shabby. The waitresses are on it with the water and green tea, the only thing I found annoying was the same things were going around and nothing really changed. All in all decent quality sushi for a reasonable price.

Worst Genki Sushi in town. Simply bad management overall.
