Not enough alcohol in the drinks. Feels very bar/clubbish...

I liked their Fish Bowl Drink - share it with a friend or else...LOL!!!

Good food. Had the terriaki chicken burger and the sauce was yummy. Dissapointed it didn't come with fries or anything. Good service. Didn't get a Hooters vibe at all. Girls were all dressed like me. Shorts and tanktops made for a casual, laidback vibe. Didn't try the fishbowl but have to say the drinks seemed weak.

Lousy food, lame crowd, worse wait staff. If you love sports and want to shout at a box of light while having some drinks, you might love it here. Lousy food, lame crowd, worse wait staff. If you love sports and want to shout at a box of light while having some drinks, you might love it here.

This isnt really a place to go if youre looking for a "restaurant". This is more like a bar hangout! I think the setup actually pretty good. As soon as you walk in, the bar is right there and there are lounging chairs by the window. Most people hang out at the bar, so if youre walking from Kuhio, the place looks busy. But once you go up the stairs and youre at the bar, it MIGHT be a different story. All the low tables are behind the bar and sometimes it can be dead empty! Doesnt matter to me anyway, because I really dont like crowded places. They have TV's, darts, pool tables, and a lounging area. The bathrooms are REALLY small! But in all, this isnt a place thats trying to get you in an out. Theyre not trying to shoo you away! The bartenders are great and attentive. Its a fun hang out with your friends or co-workers!

I was not impressed by how this bar/restaurant looked from the outside. I thought it would be a gnarly tourist trap. The inside looks like a typical bar from the 80's. I know I am not painting a nice picture of this place, but I was a bit more convinced it may be a good place when our server was so friendly and attentive. My friend and I just wanted a good breakfast, since it was the morning after NYE. I ordered the Loco Moco- and was impressed it came in a bowl. (see in picture) The eggs were perfectly cook, the half a pound of hamburger patty was delicious, but the key component was the GRAVY. After eating so many loco mocos on the island, I must say this was one of the best. Their menu states that the gravy is home made, and after tasting all of it's goodness I believe it.

Maybe ok for a beer but not a place to eat if you enjoy food. Our food was cold (even the ones steamed in leaves!) and not very good. They did have a nice live singer which was the only redeeming quality other than some good beers.

This was my last meal in Hawaii. I got a mai tai and a lau lau. The portions are pretty big. I wasn't too fond of the spinach in the lau lau. It was a little too bitter for my taste. The tomatoes that came with it tasted a bit like salsa. The mai tai was refreshing. Nothing really special about this place. I only came in for the hawaiian cuisine.

Food, blah, drinks, AWESOME! Looking to get yourself intoxicated fast and painless? Go to Da Big Kahuna for the Da Fish Bowl, as you know, any kind of blue colored alcohol gets you intoxicated fast (aka AMF, drink of death for me), but Da Fish Bowl tastes nothing like AMFs, it actually tastes really good! They put these cute plastic little fish in the the fish bowl for decoration so I guess it's an incentive to drink your drink as fast as you can so that you can dig the plastic fish out. I've been there twice and one night they had a live band playing, definitely has a fun environment if the right crowd is there. There's also a pool table in the restaurant along with game machines, so there's something fitting for everyone to do!

My Ratings: Quality - 3 Stars Quantity - 3 Stars Price - 3 Stars Location - 4 Stars Service - 3 Stars Speed - 3 Stars My Opinion/Story: We were so hungry after arriving in Hawaii. So we walked around looking for some place to eat. We settled in our hotel and decided to hit the streets looking for something to eat. We didn't want to eat the regular things we usually see in California so we decided to check out this place. We sat ourselves and our server came. She got our drinks and later got our orders. Prices were a bit shocking but we knew it was going to be expensive since we're in tourist town. Our food came and we ate. I guess I was just so hungry that I was able to finish my food but for the price we paid I would expect something that would wow me. The dish was ok. I got their garlic shrimp and my husband got their loco moco. We finished our meal, paid and left. Service was ok but not the best. I don't know if I'll come back to this place again but it's not so bad if you're starving.

I made this a regular evening hangout with my cousins during my recent trip to Oahu. We enjoyed mai tai's and our waitress' great sense of humor as we took in the night life. They have daily drink specials, and are open until 4am. It's the perfect after hours spot.

This place is fun... After hitting up Zbar for my 21st birthday we decided to stop here for some food.. Upon walking in all decked out in my "It's my 21st birthday gear" and checking my ID they gave me a complimentary fish bowl, man that thing was DELICIOUS..and HUGE! Surprisingly, we finished it..like a boss :) We ordered some fries and a quesadilla...The fries are good..they weren't soggy and they weren't hard as rocks..just right...and that quesadilla was pretty awesome too!! I have been here a few times before... I'm not a fan of the nachos..I don't like nacho cheese...I like the regular shredded cheese melted.. Over all, this place is great and I definitely plan on returning here in the near near future :):)

  • Mark H.

3 stars is pretty much on the money. The fries covered with pork and chili were "ok", the wings were "ok". Nothing to be impressed about for sure.

We had the loco moco here with some fries, the fries were pretty good. The loco moco was ok... the service was friendly.

Best Mai Tai Ever! This place is a pretty nice and laid back place to hang out. The staff are great and very nice. The Hawaiian Plate and the Big Kahuna burger are worth going there for.

Burger was pretty effing bad, and I'm not a picky eater. Think processed chicken mcnugget meat, but in beef form. Seriously, don't waste you time going to this dump.

  • Hershel A.

They handed me a coupon for $2.00 Mai Tis. Great! Ordered 2. When the bill came they were $7 each! Waitress said those are the cheaper Mai Tis with less alcohol. Turns out they have 2 different drinks with the same name. The whole point of this was to deceive the customer. I felt like a sucker. Watch out. Burgers were good.

    (2)
  • Dae Y.

the drinks were not tasty. "Da Fish Bowl" looked interesting. Saw 3 guys trying to share one. They didn't finish it. i will not order mixed drinks there ever again. but might some day try the food...with beer.

    (1)
  • Angela K.

Ok food. Service ok. Typical chain style. We only dined here because the guy was passing out coupons for half price Mai Tais. Plus we were tired of "hunting" for food down the main street with 3 kids. So, by default we went here. Not a good choice. Loco Moco was average, kids meals were ok. I would not recommend or go here again.

    (2)
  • K.c. L.

Food and service good. Price great. Music? Way too loud and not good music which makes it worse.

    (3)
  • Winnie H.

ordered a fish bowl and got a pitcher with long straws in it. WTF?

    (2)
  • Gabe R.

Not recommended, but I'm sure the drink specials could make it tolerable. There were also some hookers right outside, so the convenience factor is there. My friend and I hazarded a visit to DBK around 11:00, when nearby dining options were otherwise limited to Denny's or Subway. It looks like a cheesy fake Hawaiiana joint and that's pretty much what it is. Normally I know better than to try to order food in one of those places, but since I did, here's the lowdown: - Wings were obviously from one of those big freezer case bags, but that's not always a bad thing. Decent. - I asked if I could have my burger rare, and our waitress explained "They come to us already cooked through, so no". WTF? - I instead had the "huli huli" chicken, which was basically half a roast chicken with some sweet soy glaze. It was a limp, sickly chicken, however. - Side salad was decent. - My friend's turkey sandwich looked fairly disgusting, though I didn't try it myself. In summary, Da Big Kahuna is really more of a bar/microwave than bar/restaurant.

  • Cindy G.

We came here a few years back and thought the burgers, wings, drinks, and atmosphere was all pretty good! So...we returned on our Spring Break and it was just OK. The wings were ok, burger ok, and atmosphere ok. Service was pretty shotty, had to get up a few times to ask for things because the waitress rarely came by. My strawberry daquiri was awesome though, but not sure I'll go back with some many great places to eat in Oahu.

I would have given this place one star, but we really had a great server, and she doubled our experience, so I'm upping it to two. Attended a group party here to celebrate my wife's Halau's Hula recital on Saturday night and almost had to laugh at the decor. Cheesy Hawaiiana... and I do mean Cheese. From the fake Tiki Huts to the full wall mural.. this place is everything you can imagine for a cheesy Hawaii restaurant/bar that caters to tourists. I almost felt dirty after watching the ancient cultural performance of Hula that my wife's halau' put on and then switching gears to the ultimate plastic Hawaiiana that so many unfortunately relate our great state. Whatevas. Aside from the worlds greatest cheesy decor, this place has terrible food. At least the catering sized samplings they prepared for our large group of 50'ish. On the menu: Nacho's... Ballpark variety complete with melted cheese 'product' and a sad excuse for some salsa. Would have worked as a holdover before a hotdog in Aloha stadium. Caesar Salad. A little dollop of dressing'll do ya. Dressing tasted like it was straight out of a plastic tub. Lettuce was fresh though. Sweet chicken dish... glazed with something... not sure what, and had some sweet bits of an undistinguishable fruit. Meh. At the end of the buffet line: Kalua Pork... surely this would save the meal!! Alas... it was as dry as a Brett Farve p*** joke in Green Bay. They did have cheap drinks though... although not the highest quality. Wifey had a couple of glasses of 'house' chardonay and I had a Mai Tai. The guy at the door was passing out $2 Mai Tai coupons so if you are looking for a really cheap place to drink in Waikiki this place may be your ticket. Although he did joke that it was a ticket for a rum drink that 'May have some rum in it, not sure how much though' The duo manning the music stage played some decent covers of some 80's top 40, which I happen to have small affinity for every now and again... ...but the MMA fighting followed by a showing of 'The Greatest Police Chases Ever' on the screens scattered amongst the faux windows of the Tiki's (yes TV's in the Fake Tiki windows) was a bit distracting... People couldn't take their eyes off the fighting or the criminals running red-lights. Kind of like a train wreck, except you are seeing it while eating really bad food. All in all... a really strange mix.... to top it all off, the harsh fluorescent lights in the back really gave this place a strange feel. I think it made the tiki's and hawaiiana wall murals look even stranger. As I mentioned earlier... our waitress saved the one star rating. She was prompt, catered to our needs and worked wonders giving the large number of people that were needing service. Go here for a cheap drink and a laugh and if you are in dire need of some Cable Entertainment and your hotel room doesn't carry Spike TV. Stay away from the food.

  • Ron N.

It is ok for a large group on last minute notice to come in and play pool...

    (3)

The decor is Hawaiian Tiki and very festive. It feels like a luau inside. There is a nice lounge, in addition to the dining area. I had a pineapple burger and enjoyed it.

  • Quagmire Y.

I walked past this place a thousand times and could never bring myself to go in due to the touristy cheese factor this place secretes and the obnoxious barker they have out front yelling about the $3 mai tais. Last night I gave in since I will be starting my diet the next day (been saying that for awhile (pronounce it like Stewie on Family Guy) ) I wanted to treat myself to some wings. I was impressed with the bar staff. Very friendly and professional. No one ever had an empty drink. Wings were pretty good and meaty at 10 pieces for $8.95. I would rate them much better than The Shack but miles below Hooters. A couple of weak points are the uncomfortable bar stools that jam bamboo up anyone's (make that any fat guy's) ass and the TV playing sports was not in HD.

  • Robert R.

Wow, this place is just amazing, da big kahuna Burger stands by Its name, the service is great, beautiful bartenders and this whole place, the walls are designed to really have that sense of Hawaii culture, has flat screens every where. This place is 5 stars!!!!

    (5)
  • Shayna S.

Ehhh....not impressed. Didn't like the burgers but it could be a matter of personal taste.

  • Monique T.

When I went there, they were handing out $2 Mai Tai drink tickets!! Nice way to get people in the door! So we went there on night after dinner and had drinks. The place was pretty empty but, the DJ was spinning good music! The decoration...there was no decoration...it's large and looks and has a club atmosphere at night. The restrooms were scary! But, when you gotta go, you gotta go! Don't know why there weren't very many people there...maybe they know something we didn't know!! LOL!! I don't know! The drinks were good!

  • Alli D.

Da Big Kahuna--where da mai tai's are strong, da prices are higher than average, da bathroom has an attendant (handing you paper towels, so classy!), and da waitress tries to remember your name but gets it wrong. Didn't try da food, but they're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And they have plenty of dart boards and games to help you spend da evening in style. And they'll kick you out if you actually say da word 'the'. (Just kidding)

    (3)
  • Jessica P.

This place is awesome ;) -Great food (their chicken strips are the best) -Reasonable Prices -Friendly workers -Most important GREAT DRINKS!!! -Happy hour is great if you're on a budget Cant wait to go back to Waikiki!

    (5)
  • Myke F.

Meh... The third star is because of the happy hour... $3.00 wells! I got a nice buzz on! That said, the food is typical bar food... Wings were very good, but Frozen burgers and shoestring fries were as good as I would have expected from a snack bar. Atmosphere is great for a nightlife... A few HDTVs, pool tables, and dart boards. Huge bar and good setting for getting Yr drink on, and only a block from the beach.

    (3)
  • Ben S.

Horrible!! I was with the guy who was refused service and never have I been that disrespected for NO reason....even emailed them and still have not received an explanation. If they serve you the wrong food watch out because they will kick you out if someone reaches for it, even if they don't actually touch the food.....my only guess is that someone probably complained about them trying to give them food that sat in front of four people!--sad thing is I would have gladly paid for the nachos to keep the peace

    (1)
  • Caroline L.

Warning: the fish bowl will get you. I mean really get you. Especially if you just share it with one other person. Apparently this thing is meant for at least four people and I was struggling at the end. So much sugar. So much alcohol goodness. I had the pleasure of coming here at night and during the day. At night it was a place me and some friends could drink and dance until 4am. Good music played, beers all around and it was a wonderful place to be. During the day, I had the dreaded fish bowl, met some new friends and had some nachos that tasted good even though they looked horrid (sorry. They did.). But I enjoyed myself because of the excellent waitress, the excellent bartender, and the fact that they delivered my fishbowl in a timely manner. Would I go here again? Yes. Would I get the fishbowl again? Yes, but I would bring more reinforcement. I don't think I could do the two person thing again. It was pretty brutal. And walking around Waikiki, this meant making bad decisions like buying random souvenirs that cost lots and lots of money meant for buying drinks.

Use as a late resort. Not the best, not the best, just go when all else is full.

  • erik w.

Da Big Kahuna (or How to ruin a perfectly good Loco Moco)... go ahead an shoot me now, for even thinking that a place like this in Waikiki might be "ok"... (to my defense, starving on New Year's Day, looking for Loco Moco, and had already tried Rainbow Drive-in and Diamond Head Grill - both closed) I really want you to understand that this place sucks.. Both Loco Moco and cheeseburger had horrible pre-made patties, that I have a hard time imagining were 100% beef - tasted exactly like meatloaf. Don't get lured into this place my the "$2 Mai Tai" offer from the girl outside on sidewalk. Barely, if any, hint of alcohol in those drinks... not a Mai Tai !!

    (2)
  • Sarah Z.

Probably not the best place to start your night but definitely the best place to end it. Enough $3 Coronas were had here to convince a group of girls to strip down and jump into the ocean at 2:30am. Need I really say more? Oh, and the cheese fries...they were SO YUMMY!

  • Tricia B.

Beware of this place! We had just come into town after a long ten hour flight and wanted something easy along with a beer. As we were walking by a guy standing outside was handing out free Mai tai coupons for this restaurant. We were hungry and figured why not. The service was awful, we walk in they tell us we can sit anywhere so we pick a table and they tell us we can't sit there! it took our server 15 minutes before taking our drink order, then another 10 to come back for our food order. We got basic bar food, my bf got a burger, his brother and I split a quesadilla, his sister got an appetizer. My bf's burger was one of those pre-made burgers with grease dripping down. Our quesadilla had barely any chicken and came with guacamole that was so rancid, I mentioned it to the server and she said she would bring a new one out. When she came back with the new one she told me it was a new batch made right then, it wasn't it was the exact same batch and so sour. The food was over priced, service was awful, after she delivered our food we didn't see her for another 30 minutes. The place was dead, yet she was busy hanging out at the bar!

  • Leah B.

This is our second time coming to Hawaii and we remember the first time being really great. Second, not so much. We both ordered Da Big Kahuna Burger and the food was okay. Service kinda sucked though. It was just awkward and super slow. They didn't seem to know what to do. Just, wish we would have gone somewhere else.

  • Sally M.

One of the best mahi mahis in Waikiki! Great price for a great taste! I definitely recommend anyone to go there who's looking for some delicious Hawaiian dish! However, the waitress had an interesting attire...

  • Jared And Daisy T.

A lot of reviewers have mentioned the great drinks. Perhaps we just like ours a bit stronger, but the ones we had -- while tasty -- were definitely watered down. Personally, we don't care for a place that seems to dilute its alcohol by adding too much of the flavored syrups. Don't get us wrong, the service was nice. The young girl that took our order was very friendly and attentive. But the food was simply okay. Very typical bar food and the fries left a LOT to be desired. The kalua pork was pretty good but we've come to believe that it's hard to screw that up here on the islands. Definitely a place to go if you're desperate. Otherwise, walk a block or two to get something better for your price.

  • Kassie C.

We were pleasantly surprised at this little gem of a place. A guy on the street was handing out coupons for "Free Fries or $2 Mai Tai", so we swung in to see if it was good. I ordered the Big Kahuna burger (complete with a pineapple) and it was simply delicious. The free fries were nice. The lava flow was the best I'd had in Hawaii...at least it was blended properly. My friends all ordered different meals, including the huli huli chicken, pulled pork sandwich and coconut shrimp. It was all awesome, and the prices weren't bad considering we were in Waikiki. The drinks were a bit steep, but they were good. We decided to just forego individual drinks the second night we went and ordered the fishbowl (doing the math, it was cheaper to get that than individual drinks and it was more alcohol anyway). It has 3 types of rum, blue curacao and pineapple juice = delicious! We ended up going here a few times just because we knew it would be good, easy, and cheap. Loved the local no-named artists...nice vibe!

Pub grub, beer specials live music, bathroom attendants, very relaxing atmosphere. Tany rocked the bar- the perfect cadence of mixing drinks and chatting us up.

  • Danny V.

My friend and I stayed not too far from here, and walked by it a few times while checking out the area. We decided to stop in with a couple other friends, and I had the pulled pork sandwhich, which was AWESOME! We ate here one time for dinner, and they had a small band, with two guys playing some Hawaiian style tunes, and some more well knoew songs. We had a good time listening to them, too bad I don't remember their name. We were given a couple coupons for $2 mai tai drinks, they were very strong, but what do you expect for $2. I recomend their bacon cheeseburger too. It's a cool place to have dinner, then maybe hit the town and walk around after.

My beer was great, my wife had a vodka and tonic with what must have been rocks and tonic. bathrooms were gross. location was great but need to kick up a notch or ten with the competition in the area.

  • Krystal W.

Budget people! Head here for lunch, their happy hour is 12-6 weekdays and get the quesadilla.. its enough for two! Just 4 bucks. I'm unfortunately unimpressed with their food otherwise.. but every food joint has their forte

    (4)
  • Julie K.

Love the Mai Tai's and the Blue Hawaiian, didn't try the food though, maybe next time Big Kahuna. Its a laid back setting, where you can window watch on some patio wicker benches. If you stay late enough, you might see something interesting ;) The locals know what i'm talking about!! My biggest regret, I did not order the Fish Bowl. And beware of bad Karaoke singing! Friendly staff, and great drinks! Com'on in to the Big Kahuna!

More of a bar than grill. Fun hang out very friendly staff. Food isn't bad but just ok. Definitely a fun an affordable hangout in Waikiki.

I was walking around the streets of Waikiki and I was very hungry. My brother wanted a puka dog but that just wasn't on my agenda. After he ate, we set off to look for a place for me and I was craving seafood. Unfortunately, I hadn't looked up some great places for seafood before heading out. We were walking by this place and the menu out front listed mahi mahi so I decided to give it a shot. A couple was exiting as we walked up and she was telling him that she was not overly impressed with the food...I should have taken the tip. Inside the place is decorated in a tacky tiki bar theme. The service was average...not good or bad. I ordered the mahi mahi and a side salad. The plate came with a small portion of mahi mahi and 2 big scoops of rice. I got the mahi mahi blackened and it tasted OK however, it was very salty. The rice was dry/sticky. The salad with ranch was yummy but how can you mess up a salad. On the way out, I saw someone with a fish bowl drink which was HUGE...but I did not partake in alcohol on this visit. I won't return but I will be looking for some good seafood elsewhere. =)

  • Genelle G.

To make this short and to the point... Service sucked. Don't get me wrong the burger I ordered was the best burger I have ever eaten. I had the custom made burger with mushroom, bacon and swiss cheese. Delicious!!!!! However two of the people I was with ordered the Hawaiian Plate and if you live in Hawaii you know that we don't like the rice hard. My mother-in-law ordered a second beer that she never got. Then when we were done with our dinner we had to wait a half an hour to get the check and to top it off she shorted me a dollar on my change. So that was my experienced at Da Big Kahuna. I know I will never eat there ever again.

Had the opakpaka(Hawaiian pink snapper) mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm The pineapple salsa was awesome.

  • Kathy B.

The food was fine. Not too expensive considering it's in the middle of Waikiki! Portions are good, and our waitress was really great! She kept checking on us, making sure we didn't need refills or anything like that! All in all, a decent place to eat!

    (3)
  • Vincent W.

The fries are really good, and definitely strikes the 3rd star for this place. Got the garlic ones, but kinda sucks that they don't come with the burgers. The rest of the food was subpar though. Dry chicken and fish all around covered in cold gravy. Teryaki sauce is pretty good though, but there is nothing else positive to say about the food. Rice was not fully cooked, or dried out. Kalua Pig tasted reheated and old (might have gotten there on the last day of service on that roast). Asked for my eggs overhard and got them over easy, really really runny. Service was good though!

    (3)
  • Jessica L.

BREAKFAST ONLY REVIEW I had to eat breakfast here and I had a 15% off coupon. It was the grossest eggs, bacon and potatoes I have ever had. Even the juice tasted like frozen concentrate. Boo. $9 down the toilet. They do take out and advertise a decent sounding happy hour....

  • jill j.

total touristy resto right down kuhio but no less, it was close to BFF hot mama's work. with a name like big kahuna why the hell not.. we were in the mood for seafood that day so we got the crab legs and the buffalo shrimp. we wanted to have something light knowing that we are still gonna hit the beach later. we were seated by the window, great for people watching! talk about welcoming me to hawaii.. crab legs were fresh and tasty. we shared a plate and that was more than enough. the buffalo shrimp on the other hand needs more buffalo action. we got the hottest but it still needs some oomph! yeah, we like it hot and spicy that way. our server was great! she checked up on us and made sure everything was ok. she did managed to notice some stranger introducing himself to us and thought if we needed some "help". haha... she was cool! overall, not too bad of a place to get some grub. a little pricey but hey, ur in hawaii..

  • Johnny M.

this is a bar and for a bar the food is decent but actually a lot of the fun begins at 10:30PM Sunday to Wednesday where the karaoke starts and ends at around 3:30am. Waitress's there are friendly and very attractive so as a guy good pupus, lively scenery, entertaining karaoke singing, attractive waitress's and good drinks what more can you ask for.

    (5)
  • Shawn S.

My wife & I stopped in for afternoon happy hour. The beer specials & half price pupus were good. Only draw back... Each day only two beers on special. If its not beer you care for you'd be outta luck. Nice place though, we'll come back.

Need to try the fish bowl! Its a little pricey though, but it was a nice thing to experience. I was drunk by 1pm in the afternoon. :) and OH YEAH, food is pretty good too.

Food was good. Drinks were ok. I had two mixed drinks and didn't really taste the alcohol in either of them. Service was really good though. Overall not bad but I wouldn't go here again.

  • Joe M.

My wife and I stopped by and had a fish bowl it was delicious. The service was good and the prices were even better so we went back again. I ordered a Loco Moco and my wife ordered some cheese fries and a spicy chicken sandwich. And again the service was great and the food even better. The drinks are affordable and delicious. If you don't stop in and have fish bowl your missing out.

  • Melissa C.

Can't stand karaoke, especially the kinds of songs the tourists were singing, I wanted to simply shoot myself. Since I didn't drive, at least I had the option of drowning myself in a Fish Bowl, in hopes that I would have selective hearing and tune out the awful karaoke... but it didn't.

Awful, cheesy Hawaiiana decor that is so cheesy that it's fun. Food is average, but the staff is what separates this place. All the girls are young, smile, and bounce around the restaurant.

BIg Kahuna has THE BEST CHICKEN WINGS I EVER HAD HERE IN HAWAII!! It's tender, it's juicy, it's finger licking good! Please try it, it's really freaking awesome!! Cheese quesadilla is good too, hack, everything on the menu is good!! Although I don't come here as often as I would like to, but i dream about those chicken wings... It's not really a bar... it's more like a restaurant that opens real late and has karaoke at night on the weekdays, a DJ on the weekends. They have that fish bowl drink, i would recommend bringing out of town guests here it's pretty fun~ some dart boards, 2 pool tables... great place to hang out with friends and just have a good time! :)

Went here on a spur of the moment just looking for a little dinner... wasn't expecting too much but how can you mess up a burger right??? This was hands down the most disgusting food I have ever eaten...as anyone and they will tell you I always eat all my food as I hate to waste money!!! I couldn't even stomach 1/2 of the burger...I ordered a medium rare cheese burger with mushrooms and cheddar...no joke the burger came out in about 4 minutes...i figured I would bite into it and it was be RAW...but no..even worse...fully cooked through and through...so either they pre-cook their patties and warm them up or they are just frozen to begin with and just stack them up waiting for orders to come in...when I asked the server if I should be worried that my burger came out in about 4 minutes flat..she said "no" and that the "boss was in the back" and "he cooks really fast"..good try... I was in and out in about 15 minutes flat...got the check and ran..waste of money...waste of time...one star because at least it didn't make me sick!!!.

I came here awhile back and don't remembered what I ordered but it had Kahlua pork and lau lau. It was pretty good. Didn't stand out as being the best I ever had but good enough for me to attempt to finish (i eat like a freakin bird some days). Also got the ahi poke and my friend got the salmon. Somewhat short of Goldilocks status: not "just right". not great, but not bad either. Didn't try to infamous fish bowl but we did have a couple of lava flows that were delicious. Live band was cool. Server was pretty cute. So jealous of her legs.

Bar with no cover while all the surrounding bars do charge cover? I guess that's why I rolled into this place. Although the place wasn't packed, we got to sit at the bar with my favorite bartender of the trip. Brandy is a little Asian cutie who gave us great recommendations for the local scene. The free shots were awesome as well. DJ was playing awesome music as well. My friend had his iPhone out Shazaming all night.

I started my Yelp account to warn people about Da Big Kahuna. My fiancé and I flew into Honolulu and decided to explore Waikiki and have some dinner there before checking into our hotel in ko olina. We passed by Da Big Kahuna, glanced at the menu, and decided a burger was the way to go. Big Mistake!!!! This burger, which was supposed to be beef, tasted far from it. To this day I am not sure what type of meat I ate, but I am leaning towards either a mix of spam and beef or a very processed beef burger. I took two bites because I was starved, but refused to eat rest because I was afraid of getting food poisoning. Please do your self favor, do not eat here! If you must, do not have the "burger".

Decided to checkout this place after getting the $2 Mai Tai coupons from the girl outside. Overall decor is ok. Lots of seats with a handful of tables with low, living room type chairs by the window seats. This is what we ordered: 2 cups of water - Tasted like horrible tap water. We promptly ordered a beer and Mai Tai. Mai Tai - Watered down, but tasty. I wasn't looking for a stiff drink; so this was fine by me. 1/2 Chicken - The meat was juicy. Tomatoes on the side were a bit weird for me, but I enjoyed the chicken and steamed rice that accompanied it. Peel & Eat Shrimp - I believe this was listed as an appetizer (but it doesn't get the 50% off for the happy hour special). Good amount of shrimp and pretty fresh. Only downside is they left the black intestine on the shrimps...gross. Overall, it was good. Not sure if I would go again (especially considering all the other options nearby).

Two pool tables, not in great shape but hey, they have pool tables! A small dance floor, lots of tables and another section near the street. Drinks were around $5 for a draft bud. The service was very good.

I went here on Jan 31, 2009 for the BJ Penn vs George St. Pierre 2 fight. I ordered their chicken strips and a draft beer. My father ordered a chicken quesadila and a diet coke. My chicken fingers come out and I have about 2 small pieces, it's very dry...I send it back. They bring me back another which was a little better than the first. We watched the fight...we order chips and I have another beer, my father orders water. Driving home about 2 hours later, I get this sharp pain in my stomach...I get home and I'm sick as a dog, the worst stomach pains I ever felt. I throw up, and I'm on the toilet all night. I can't sleep, I feel like death. The next morning (today) I called my father to tell him I can't make the Super Bowl game because I'm too sick and I'm not sure what happened, perhaps the stomach flu. Then my father tells me he's in worst shape than I am. He said he felt that way as soon as he walked out of the restaurant too. The only logical conclusion was the chicken. We got food poisoning... I contacted the manager at the restaurant. He was very understanding and said he'll look into it and file a report. I have no complaints about the service, the people, the location, or even the fight. Everything else was good, it's just they served us bad chicken. I also realize that my father got more sick then I did because he ate all of the quesadilla and I returned my original order a new chicken. I know this doesn't happen here often, we were just one of the unfortunate ones that got served a bad order. If it wasn't for that, I'd rate it 3.5 stars and would recommend it on a weekend.

Just your typical bar drinks and food with a tropical flair. Been coming here for years for late night drinks- whenever I visit. I coulda swore when you order the "Tropical Itch" it's served with a back scratcher! But on this last visit, I didn't get any =(. Of course, it's kinda pricey but for HH it's pretty decent.

This is properly described as a frat bar by Lonely Planet. We dropped in for a very late night bite after our 10 p.m. arrival into Honolulu. It was fairly empty but it was still very loud with karaoke and large tables of wannabe meatheads. The food itself was entirely forgettable. With all the options around this area, I would never return.

This is a fun drinking pre- party spot before you hit the clubs. More for a tourist attraction but I still like it. This place has huge picture windows so very fun to hooker watch!

Like everyone said, they hand out coupons for free friends or $2 mai tais. We had a huge group of 12 and they got all of our orders quickly. Most awesome were the giant fishbowl drinks they had for $20-yes they had lil plastic fish in them too. You don't taste the alcohol so you think you can drink a lot but for $20 you can't beat it! It's better than paying $4-8/drink at the other bars/clubs. We had 3 fishbowls split among 4 of us at a table. Amazing. I'd definitely come here with friends-they had a guy playing the guitar. Really chill place. Seating for such a large group was a bit of trouble as other customers glared at us since not all 12 of us were there, but other than that, no problem. The menu is a bit limited as in few choices, but definitely chill and prices were reasonable!

I really can't speak for the food since all I've had was french fries. However, I really like this place. My boyfriend works in Waikiki, so sometimes we get a drink when he's done with work. After trying numerous places in Waikiki, Da Big Kahuna is our go-to spot. We met in Wisconsin where dive bars with cheap beer are a-plenty and we've had a hard time dealing with all these high end fancy places in Waikiki. We like this place because we can walk in, take a seat at the bar, the bartenders know our names, and there are nightly beer specials. There are great seats by the window for people watching or hanging out with larger groups of people. And of course, the bright blue fishbowl is a fun treat every once in a while, but I usually just stick to PBR on tap!

Fun and lively place. We got the fish bowl everytime and it gave us a good, but weird, buzz. Must've been all the cheap liquor they put in it. Still, you have to get it at least once when you're in Hawaii just for the experience. They sometimes have Karaoke there which is a lot of fun, 2 small sized pool tables and dart boards. They also serve bar food - wings, fries, burgers, loco mocos, etc. The staff consists of mainly cute young girls, great to look at. But sometimes it smells like sea water near the window seats with the Kuhio street view. It's a nice place to get a buzz on and do some people-watching, but the "bar vibe" is something you can get at home. Come for the fish bowl and then walk to another bar for more of a "Hawaiian Paradise" feel.

The food was gross, the drinks were weak, and by the end, I was really wishing I had just gone to Chili's, which is right down the street. Seriously. The guy outside trying to lure you into this place says "Nothing but chain food ahead". Believe me, this is one time when you WANT the chain food.

Food was alright and place was fun, but it's not a place to go on a date. It's more like a Hooters than a dine in type of restaurant so don't take the family.

I wish there was a way to compliment the chef or whoever came up with the recipe for the Blackened Mahi Mahi over the Chef's Salad because it was one of the best salads I've ever had. I never order seafood mixed with my salads but this was definitely yummy. The fish I mean. Now everything else- ick. Upon walking in, I felt like we were at Hooters. The blaring music, hooters-looking waitresses walking around in tacky outfits-- not exactly my idea of a nice evening to be yelling at my boyfriend to he can hear my above the music. I get that they're trying to go for the casual, hip, guys-hang-out-spot feel, so why not just make it into a Hooters? Nevertheless, I like to give everything a try so we stayed. The service was terrible. We never treated our waitress rudely or even asked why our salad was taking so long. (I'm not sure why our salad took so long to make, esp. when there weren't a lot of customers). Anyway, our waitress must have felt the same because after 30 min., she passed by quickly and told us our order was going to be a few more minutes. Our waitress didn't get us our water until the food was served nor did she check up on us until it was time for the bill. And then this was what set me off, including my patient and lenient boyfriend. We paid by cash and the waitress had the nerve to ask us if we wanted change back. Uh, why no, I'm just going to ignore the fact that I should be getting $17.83 back... since when has asking if the customer wants change become acceptable?! You get your tip when the customer feels that you earned it. So I replied "yes, thank you" and she came back with only $17.00. Granted, it's only $0.83 of change missing but it's MY MONEY. My boyfriend, being the nice person he is, gave our waitress a 15% tip although I would have liked to give her my two cents. Literally, two pennies. My boyfriend tried to justify it by saying she might have been having a crappy day but guess what- I'm paying for the eating out experience. If I wanted to make my own chef salad, I could do it at home but you eat out for the ambiance and service. It's not my job to sympathize what the waitress is going through. Originally, my boyfriend was going to leave her a higher tip but ended up getting irritated and instead, leaving a 15% tip which she shouldn't even have gotten. Never going back here.

Pros: Awesome servers (definitely sit in Allison's section - she's a hilarious red head!) and perhaps the ONLY bar in Waikiki that you can order Edemame. That's right, edemame. At a bar. I almost want to give it five stars for that fact alone. Food-wise, I think the little yelp description of 2 stars pretty much sums it up: "Meh. I've experienced better" The fish bowls are perfect for collegiates sporting popped collar A&F shirts: they *look* like the sh*t, but in reality, it's just a few shots and a whole lotta sugary liquid. So, when you average together the great servers, fun atmosphere and questionable beverage selection you get 3 stars(ish). At least I did.

Had the infamous fishbowl for the first time. It tasted good, but it was like drinking juice. The three of us had a good buzz already but it wasn't as strong as everybody raved about because I hoping to get the birthday girl slizzard and throw up :] it was a cute concept and it came with 6 straws and two little plastic fishies inside. For grubs, we had kalua pig nachos, kalua pig loco moco and mozzarella sticks. Not even 10 minutes after sitting down, our meal was presented to us in all it's yumminess! The food food was to nom nom for! Service was excellent. It looked like she was the only one but she did a good job checking up on us. I usually base the tips by the amount service and attentiveness the waiter/waitress gives us. The best place to sit around the 10 o'clock hour is on the couches right by the window facing the main road. The entire night we watched ladies try to pick up guys in all shapes and sizes, married or not and the success of the night, minors who are visiting and can't get laid :) The experience was good altogether. Only downfall when we first sat in our seats it smelled like vomit and I was afraid to touch anything. But other than that, I will most definitely come back and get my nom on again.

First time I was here it was 2AM and it was pretty empty but the patrons who were there seemed to be enjoying themselves. Wanting to see this place during "normal" hours, I came here for dinner and cocktails one night. The food was terrible. Worst food I have ever eaten.. ever. We got the nachos and it was comparable to movie theatre nachos. We exchanged this for the quesadilla which was also disappointing. Deciding to give Da Big Kahuna one last chance, we ordered the $25 fish bowl. Although it was decorated cutely with little fake fish floating in the beverage and you are able to keep the fish bowl, I was still completely sober after finishing the drink. Too sober for my own good since I was able to remember how terrible the food was. The one star goes to the musician playing the guitar.

Pass. I had the chicken wings. Blah - they tasted like frozen wings from Costco that had been heated in the microwave. The lady had a cheeseburger, which also looked and tasted like a recently frozen patty from Costco. The patty had that round, disk shape, which is so characteristic for frozen patties. Plus, the burger was kind of watery (and NOT in a juicy way) - I think they just melted the ice frozen on the patty. I expected more from the elaborate descriptions on the menu. I also tried the chili, which was ok. The side salad was also ok. Service was friendly but slow and unresponsive. Since you're on Waikiki, there are plenty of other options. Patronize one of those.

It's DA Big Kahuna, not THE Big... get it right. **This review is mainly for the atmosphere and service on my Tuesday night, not so much the food, I can't speak too much for other nights. I LOVED it here Tuesday, there were two really talented vocalists singing in between karaoke songs, it felt like a cover band. Everyone in the audience who sang their selection was freakin' amazing and didn't miss a beat! I was impressed by each and every person to the point that I thought they were all undercover staff? hehe. Had such a FUN time watching, drinking, muchin on appetizers and just hanging out here, the vibe and staff are relaxed and everyone seems happy. One gutsy woman even sang while walking through the crowd right on over to her husband, wow, fearless! I sang along and wanted so bad to sing myself but competition was stiff :P Great place to start your night off at, didn't stay all night but my guess is that it turns into a danceclub as the night goes on. [Once before I came in here for a quick pit stop for Mai Tais early Thursday evening. Fast service at the bar, Hawaiian/Reggae music was playing, a group of people were dancing. Saw a couple sharing a huge and I mean HUGE glass fishbowl-shaped cocktail & thought that was the coolest thing.]

I went here with about 10 people from our film crew and we really had a blast. Never heard of the fish bowl drink, but it seemed to be a favorite among the other tables so we ordered several for ours. I would give it a 4 star rating as far as the alcohol content, but the fun factor of the place surely makes up for the extra star. The pool tables are a bit outdated and the dart boards, but who cares after 4 or 5 drinks right? Last nights music was all reggae and it was hopping with tourist and locals to the sound of the beat. I think by the time I left at 2am, we were all trying to talk through our ruptured eardrums..lol lots of fun. The thing that topped this place was the angus burger I had with a slice of ham, tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, pinnapple and thousand island sauce between pita bread. It was really delicious. I would certainly plan another place to party and parking was next door for a reasonable price.

I ordered the "Hawaiin Plate" it was good and I enjoyed the lau lau (spelling?) The bartenders were cool and the tourist were even cooler!!! The first tourist I met and dinner was on him. So sweet. So I dont have too much to bicker about and the DJ was rockin' the mic!!!

stopped in for dinner because we were walking buy and it was loud and the menu looked good. I am a very picky fish eater but the friendly and humorous waitress (which we recognized her as our waitress from another restaurant the day before!!!) said the salmon rocks. It was awesome!! the crab legs were one pound and plenty for my husband. The service was great, the atmosphere of live music was super and the bill was decent. We didn't try any appetizers, just entrees. Many tables had a fish bowl but we passed as it was HUGE!

The turkey sandwich was abysmal. Essentially, just a hot dog bun with some turkey (I think??) and seemingly old cheese. The service was blah - they really just wanted us in and out to turn over the table. Not my best Hawaiian experience. There are far better places in Waikiki to spend your money.

Pretty good place. Swung by while in Waikiki and had garlic cheese fries and a pound of crab. It was no Alaskan king crab but hey we were hungry and enjoyed it. Service was decent and we got $2 Mai tai!

I just had breakfast here, and there wasn't anything fancy on the menu. Most of it was standard eggs with some sort of side meat. It being in Hawaii, instead of bread or potatoes, you have the option of having rice as your starch. I opted to upgrade my rice for $1 more to fried rice, and thank goodness I'm not a vegetarian or Muslim/Jewish/Hindu because in the rice were yummy bits of bacon. Served with eggs over-easy and self-topped with lots of black pepper and soy sauce, it was a good breakfast.

We were the only diners when we came here for breakfast. That wasn't a good sign especially if you're a tourist. But I was happy w/ my meal: eggs, bacon, sausage & potatoes. Their potatoes tasted like the frozen Oneida potatoes, but cooked to perfection. The price was reasonable & service was good. They also have a pool table which we used while waiting for our food.

Cheap comfort food and great service coupled with $2 mai tais made for a great meal. Our waitress was super cute and friendly so we even took pics with her. Fries were standard, the mahi mahi plate was quite good and the mai tais were tasty but crept up on you at the end. I think we might have ordered another shot or something on top of that and the bartender accomodated by pouring my friend's shot into her special bachelorette shot glass =) The food isn't amazingly different but it's a solid choice that was close by.

I havent been to this dump in over 2 years, and with good reason! The service, food, atmosphere, are all below bar and could have been mistaken for dump on a side street in Kalihi! Service is ALWAYS incredibly slow, and most of the female staff relies on their ''looks'' to overcome this fact, but it doesn't help when the trannies from across the street look 10x better then these busted hoes! This may work with hetero male clientele after knocking back half a bottle of the cheapest liqour! Food, fries were cold and my salad was limp and iceberg lettuce seriously?? Atomsphere: Umm, low class people ranging from the cheap, overweight and often smelly hoale tourist from the mainland, sluts and wannabe frat guys from UH and HPU, blue collar workes (eg construction), and some muscle head asian dudes trying over compensate for something. The music, was horrible I remember really bad 90s and 80s rock and then even worse karaoke! They only cool people I have met here is one bartender I believe Brandi, and my friends and I of course! The only redeeming factor is the dartboards! Would I ever return to this dump when I visit home? HELL NO!!!! If you want to have a great time, with great people, great drinks with an incredible happy hour and atmosphere and music GO TO INDIGOS! It really gets going on ''First Fridays'', but I love going for the afternoon happy hour and trying their free pupu spread. SOOOOO GOOD, and then heading back to Waiks!

Good times at this place in HI! Very stiff and good drinks! Not stingy at all. The food is good too...We had some of their Hawaiian plates, and you can't go wrong with any seafood here - very yummy! Very Hawaiian atmosphere and good music playing. Good vibes and fun!

Good place for food and drinks. Very chill atmosphere with pool tables and games to keep you busy. Close walk from all the hotels. We had a big group so we were able to all order a lot and sample off of one another. I think overall the food was decent, nothing to fantastic, but the drinks were really good. It was a nice stop in from the beach for some island cocktails. Service was a bit slow the day we went though so boo.

Hahaha what can I say about this place? I was on vacation with my to-be girlfriend, and upon one drunken night of barhopping, we came across Da Big Kahuna. The title name of this place already intrigued us enough to bring us in. We started off with a couple mai-tais, which were delicious, but standardly weak. To accompany our buzz, and to further the night just a little bit, we ordered a side of cheesy french fries. Maybe it was the haze of the night that had already set in, maybe it was the lively atmosphere with the cling and clang of the restaurant settings, or maybe it was the dim romantic lighting of the atmosphere, but the cheese fries here were spectacular. they were so delicious. I wanted to order a second side of the same.. but alas i did not. they were very good. Well, the huge portion of fries filled us up quite a bit, and so, we were A-OKAY to drink some more! we decided to drink something together.. what would be good........... FISH BOWL?! what the! OKAY! with a mixture of alchemy from the VERY GENEROUS bartender, the concoction with 2 plastic fishies in it came out STRONG, but still quite tasty, ice cold to the warm weather, and easy to drink. This fish bowl was actually a fish bowl, like literally a. fish. bowl. filled entirely with liquor, mixers, 2 plastic fishies, and 2 straws. Because it was blue, it almost felt like an AMF, and that's exactly what happend -after we finished the bowl.. we were gone.... adios! It came hard, full, and extremely satisfying to the inside itch. that's what she said

Your basic burger and bar joint. I think it's trying to do a Hawaiian Hooters thing, but it doesn't really work. It's on the street behind the main drag in Waikiki, so it's not too crowed or too expensive.

As written as a reply to a message from a recently added friend : big kahuna?... wow that's creepy, I was going to write a review about them today :p I started to, but then I got caught up with work matters.. I guess you had a better night than my friends and I did, because although I thought my sandwich was decent, the rest of the people I dined with didn't feel the same. I had the BBQ Kahlua Pig Sandwich, and it was bit dry for my taste. I like the meat when it's been sitting in a big pot of BBQ sauce for hours and hours. That's when the meat is soft, tender, and melts in your mouth. Not to mention it's packed with flavor. You know.. now that I think about it, the food wasn't so bad. I liked the garlic cheese fries. The garlic was freshly grated, but it still had a little bit of a kick than just the initial "HIIII I'M GARLIC!" type of aroma and flavor. The cheese was the ooey googey, melted type of liquidy goodness that I adore. I don't care for freshly grated cheese on my fries and nachos.. I don't know about you, but "rubbery" cheese doesn't look appetizing to me. I don't doubt that the liquid cheese product is probably more of a plastic-like substance than I want to lead myself to believe.. but it's DELICIOUS. Oh well, we're all being poisoned by carcinogens floating in the air anyway so... Carpe Diem. The reason why I wouldn't rate this establishment with a 3 or a 2.5, *in fact it barely makes 2 stars for my vote*, is because the service towards me was terrible. Notice how I said "ME" and not to the rest of the table. For whatever reason, I must have been sitting in the "ignore at all cost" seat of the table. Not only did the waitress service everyone else that was sitting to my left, right, in front, diagonally and every other direction from me, she simply chose to ignore the fact that I was asking for a little bit of service. The first waitress forgot my water, therefore my boyfriend gave me his. After the waitress switched shifts, I must have asked for a refill about 3 times (just seconds away for waving my arms frantically in the air) to grab the girl's attention, and yet AGAIN she completely misses my request. While everyone else is getting their 2nd or third beer or cocktail. Was she pissed at me because I didn't feel like paying $6 for a beer?? STuPid Waikiki bars.. Granted I know what it's like to be really busy in a restaurant. I used to waitress for a few years myself. But I wasn't rude to her, and I didn't feel like I deserved to be treated with such disrespect. When all was said and done, I had to ask my boyfriend to grab her attention to bring me a take out box, and she also messed up on the check. My boyfriend could tell that I was about ready to blow my top off, so he took it upon himself to take care of the check issue for me. I was so irritated and ready to leave the place, that I gave her a tip that expressed just how upset I was with my dining experience. Granted I gave her $4 for a $25 check, so I was still pretty generous (I guess you could say my share was a dollar, and his was $3). I would have liked to leave her nothing, but my boyfriend felt bad for her because he noticed that she must have been having a rough night. Cry me a fucking river. We left the establishment completely unsatisfied, and I ended up tossing my to-go box into the trash. I didn't feel the need to put that "bad taste" in my mouth ever again. We wanted pizza that night anyway :p

What a nightmare! Do not stop...especially if they're handing out the $2 Mai Tai coupons! Hungry? Yes! Walking with my wife, looking for some local food to enjoy, we roll up on 4 maybe 5 girls scantily dressed..."Is this hooters?" I think to myself. A brief look around and I realize it's not and with a $2 Mai Tai coupon sold into my hand...and subconsciously being ushered into the front entry way, we found ourselves going in. After entering the poorly lit, stale restaurant/bar area we sit at the bar. I put the Mai Tai coupons on the bar top and spill "two Mai Tai's for sure!" out of my mouth overwhelmed and under prepared for the whirlwind we were now in of, way too many servers, with nothing to do and a slow bar with way to many bartenders and not enough bar-goers. A couple good looking Mai Tai's show up quickly and for $2, this is a great way to start. I sipped mine and admit it was a well mixed drink. Tasted right. After looking at the weak, overpriced menu of simple bar/ comfort foods we can find anywhere, and realizing if we order, were spending precious travel dollars that should go to a local owner with some passion for his business, we opted for no food off this menu. Still hungry, and finishing the Mai Tai, I asked for the bill. My wife's drink was probably 3/4 full and being gently sipped on. Low and behold the bill came for $15?! " What the #%&* is this?" I ask and pull over a tender who delivered the bill and quickly evaded. "Bait and switch of course!" he should have said. I wanted the $2 Mai Tai as I pushed over the never picked up coupons that sat on the bar top the entire time. "That's for a different Mai Tai, a smaller one with different ingredients." He pushed them back to me. "We wanted those and you have 5 people out front selling passer-bys these." He debated with us and after a small disagreement back and forth he rolled his eyes and gave us the new bill for $4 plus tax, but only after taking away my wife's 3/4 drink from her and not letting us have it...Garbage. Felt like I was in a bad infomercial with a disagreeable 10 year old. After pulling other employees aside and pointing, we felt embarrassed and obviously like "the annoying customer". He took away her drink! I will never recommend someone who offers bait and switch tactic and offers such a low level of integrity to the customer.

this place was fun. A friend on a recommend brought us here. We enjoyed. The appetizers came fast. Prices were very good. The $2 Mai Tia was decent. One item was ordered but forgotten. Our server took a little ribbing and gave it back as a pro. We were bouncing around and that is why we declined our gravy fries. What we had, .10 size wings and Kahlua pork quesadea with tomato tortilla.

Yummy loco mocos and cheese fries. They have this drink thats a big fish bowl. Yeah i was pretty buzzed after that. This place was connected to our hotel so we got a either cheap or complimentary breakfast from them. It came with a lot of food. The staff is friendly. It gets really busy and crowded at nights.

I went here for my birthday. I got a loco moco, which was very good! I also got the fish bowl drink. It is a blue drink in a this real life fish bowl. They say its a "drink for four". ... the end.

To bad I have to give this place a star to be able to write a review. The food was the worse I'm pretty sure the wings my BF ordered came out of the freezer and straight to the microwave. The nachos were basic no flavor I'm pretty damn sure 7/11 has better nachos then this place! Serves wasn't any better! You can tell our waitress hated her job and didn't care about giving good service. To be honest she's lucky I even tipped her. I should have yelped this place before wasting time and money. Don't make the same mistake!

Negative stars for the HORRIBLE customer service at this place. The blonde waiter elbowed my boyfriend to try and push him out of the way, while he was standing at the bar waiting for drinks.. which is unacceptable... Um, a simple "excuse me" would have sufficed. Anyways.. long story short, we didnt get our drinks. The bouncer told us to leave because the waitress was making a stink about him being in the way (which is weird because SHE was the one that elbowed him) I even apologized to her to calm the tension... we waited near the exit for our refund of drinks...Bouncer said, "Dont worry about her, shes dumb, and young, and shes so small"....um okay?... left..walked down the stairs. THE MANAGER, I believe his name is JAMAIYAH...started turning the story around like my boyfriend was the one that touched her..nope, buddy, the manager wasnt even there. He started arguing with us..(and we are already OUTSIDE).. and he swung at my boyfriend FIRST. I stood in the middle trying to catch my balance.. and he swung at me. Hit me...pushed me down the stairs...as I was trying to catch myself again, he pushed me down the stairs once more. SO NEGATIVE STARS!!! I mean come on... WHAT A PHYSICAL PLACE! These employees are physical. And, its crazy that he was the manager of the bar. He should definitely not be working there if hes going to get crazy like that, and started hitting people.

Wow so bad.... My girlfriend and I walked in to eat and were excited to try this place cause we walk by it all the time on our way to work. We sit down and we already know what we wanna get...the fish bowl. We order it and it looks cool and we're excited to suck it down but we end up finishing it completely just the two of us and we felt nothing. It was so watered now and lacking it was a total rip off for being 20 dollars. Definitely not ordering that again. Then comes the food. We ordered cheesy fries with a side of gravy and a garden burger with a grilled pineapple. The fries get to the table and it's smothered with this bland, putrid, yellow sauce that doesn't resemble cheese at all and tastes not even nearly as good as the cheese sauce you would put on nachos at like a 7/11 which again isn't even that great. The burger comes and it's not bad but it's not hard to screw up a garden burger cause it's already pre made. It did come with this white spread that had the potential to be good but again it was so bland and mediocre that it wasn't even worth putting on the burger. The whole entire meal was so bad I felt like I was wasting space in my stomach. We get our check and I find out the waitress charged us 50 cents for a side of gravy and a additional 50 cents for asking for a grilled pineapple even though the burger already came with a fresh pineapple. She didn't even tell me it was gonna be extra! Wtf?! Oh and I forgot to mention that it was so hot in that place I had to sit next to the windows so I didn't melt away! This was seriously such a terrible experience and I will definitely not be coming back to this awful restaurant. The cook and staff should be ashamed of the food that they are serving because it shouldn't ever be given to anybody to eat. Please avoid this place. Trust me. Da big Kahuna burger is Da worst money I ever spent.

Well I have to give one star but this place deserves zero stars. To start the meal we were cordially invited by cheap party store decor and a friendly cockaroach. After getting our drinks were brought out I brought up the bug and was shot down from by waitress for not knowing there were bugs everywhere on the island, disgusting. Our food matched the experience and was awful, our shrimp looked like it was shipped from China nine years ago. Our nachos were a disgusting soup of liquid cheez whiz and pork fat. If I could rename this place it would be big dump.

Good fish bowls here. If you're looking to get drunk, great place to start. Hip hop music weekend nights. Don't eat the wings. The bartender even looked at me funny when I ordered them. The wings were like Walmart wings, half-cooked through a microwave. I felt gross after.

We had the lava flow and a fishbowl and it was enjoyable. They were not strong drinks but we always make the best of any situation. Our waitress was Manda and she must've been having a bad day or something because she was bad. It was like pulling teeth to order more drinks. We had ordered a couple of beers on top of our drinks but we could've easily doubled our tab if she came around to check on us more often. When she did check on us it was what I consider a drive by, "How's it going," as she walked by but the going part was hardly heard as she was already gone! Lol I chalk it up to a bad day but there are just too many places nearby with better service and stronger drinks to have to settle for this place.

Don't bother with this one. My husband and I decided to try this place because it looked busy whenever we passed by... Service was terrible, the whole place was HOT, drinks were weak and heavy with sour mix, food was mediocre at best. We will not be coming back here.

Bar food. What can I say? They save thousands of dollars a month by not adding any alcohol to their mixed drinks, I'm sure! If they actually added liquor to their cocktails, I would've given them 3-stars!

From the west side to Waikiki. Lol, why'd I come here?! Met up with some friends that were hanging out. It was dark and the must was loud with a lot of people walking around or on the dance floor. I just stuck to water though the girls offered me sips from their drink. It was in something like a fishbowl? Didn't get any food but looks good. I'll probably order if I come back again. Cover $10 at the door. They gave us wristbands. Dance floor looked small and a lot of inappropriate dancing.

The food is good and atmosphere is nice.. BUT... what I absolutely don't like is the wait help. There's one server who works there who I swear is always high and on something. she lost my boyfriends credit card, spilled drinks all over the place, and is just a horrible mess. We complained about her and the manager said he was on the fence of keeping her, but yet when we went back she was still working there, and was again a hot mess. I won't mention her name, but if you go there, i'm sure you'll be able to figure out who she is. she sticks out like a sore thumb. to management...you guys can do better than her. get rid of her..she making you guys look bad.

Avoid this place. C'mon you can do better! Don't be fooled by their tiny fishbowl drinks which is mostly ice. We came here last year during our stay and to try to fishbowl but since I have former Marine on my hand the fishbowl of blue ice was merely a jigger. Not worth its $20 fee. and the food is lacking. In all departments. So I was already weary of coming here. Today after a girls day about town shopping and a bit of sightseeing we decided to have a few drinks but wanted to stay close to our condos. This place was chosen by the luck we were just passing by. While walking into the place there was blood all over the inside steps leading up to the bar. I'm not entirely sure but that may be a total health code violation. Read the previous review and think it may have came from the night before. Which is pretty gnarly, that they didn't clean up the biohazard they have in their restaurant. A cheap lunch turned into a $30 tab with two drinks and appetizer. Which by the way I was told were happy hour prices. When I asked the girl seem tiffed and just asked if I was planning on paying. My friend order nearly the same thing but with and extra drink ended paying $24! How the hell? Never mind. Guess they need the $10 extra bucks more than I do. We are staying here with a group of 30. I spend most of my time with the wives and I made them aware of the shady business Da Big Kahuna is. If they go and don't heed my warning they deserve to have their money taken and the horrible service.

UGH This place, according to Yelp, was known for their Fishbowl drink! And me and some friends were so excited but upon arrival, we found out they were out of fishbowls... I don't even know how that was possible but meh.. The drinks were super weak and cost about $7 a pop. Some of my friends ordered the drink that comes in an 'actual coconut.' Be wary, it comes in a coconut CUP not an actual coconut. My friends were throughly disappointed. Overall, the crowd was meh, the drinks were weak and the menu was misleading to a certain point. UGHHHH bye bye Da Big Kahuna. Good bye.

THEEE MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! No joke!!! I wish I could give 0 stars. My boss and two friends of mine were sitting in the bar area for three hours when I went out to take a call. Upon entering back in the bar the bouncer requested my ID and then said give me five dollars! I said that I had been there for the past three hours and that I have a tab. They then proceeded to take my ID and check the bar if I had a tab with all of my friends and my boss are sitting right there with my drink and my food. I sat down with my friends when the manager Chris came up and told me that I was rude to his staff and that I had to apologize to the bouncer or leave. Is this customer service or's staff service? I proceeded to apologize to the bouncer for absolutely nothing and asked the manager for the general managers card. At which time the manager Chris went into his office and came back with a card that wasn't his explaining that he is out of cards and wrote his name on the back of a random person's card. He then proceeded to tell me that I have to leave again! And this is in front of my boss! I later found out that he is not even the GM!!!! He was LYING TO ME!!! Needless to say I left my friends and my boss because this guy who turned out not even to be the general manager told me to leave for asking for his card!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EMBARRASSED IN AN ESTABLISHMENT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! DO NOT GO HERE! THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PLACES TO GO IN WAIKIKI AND YOU DON'T NEED TO GO WITH THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE AND PEOPLE ARE NASTY!!!

Husband and I stopped in for a fish bowl, and we're not disappointed. But of course with a drink that big, you have to get food. I had the loco moco and he had the blackened mahi mahi. I also got gravy fries and he got garlic fries. My gravy was pretty good, maybe 4/5. He really liked his fish, but I have nothing to compare my loco moco to, so I'll give it a 3/5 (I didn't really like the beef patty, but this could just be me not looking plain hamburger). His garlic fries were really garlicky (he really liked them!). If you're looking for a good place to come and chill and watch a sports game, this is a good place to come. The bartenders and waitresses are very, very nice, and the drinks are good. We came in a Monday night for Monday night football, and the place was decently full, but you can't hear any other people. Definitely try the fish bowl and just chill.

If you enjoy recent and Retro music this is the place. For the best show of bartenders you have to watch brandy. Any bar that has a bartenders with This much energy should be proud. I spent more time and money watching the bartender with her attention to customers than anyone I have ever seen. You will not be disappointed. I normally do not praise workers but this is a must!!

I have lived in Waikiki since I moved here in 2006 and the first year I literally lived across from the Big Kahuna. But it wasn't until maybe two years ago that I actually went here. I really don't have anything to say about the food because I have never had dinner there (a common thing in my reviews haha) but the drinks are good. Yes, I have tried the fish bowl. One time I shared it (smart move), and the last time I went me and my friends thought it would be a great idea to have one each. It wasn't such a great idea. But besides that I liked the music, and the place. We went on a Thursday so it was pretty empty, so I'm absolutely willing to try going there on a weekend and maybe even try the food. Also, the bartenders were nice and friendly. And the tourists sitting across from us were giving us nasty looks when we ordered our fish bowls HAHA, but that's not Big Kahuna's fault :)

  • Tay C.

Well, just don't upset the bouncers or they will assault you. My friend and I were literally attacked after questioning why they shutdown early. We Filed a police report, and direct words from the policemen's mouths, "We hate these guys." I'm a wuss in every sense of the word. I'm okay with that. However, I'm not okay with being assaulted, and I'm the least bit afraid of making sure this doesn't happen to another person. -LT Combs.

One thing you have to try is the fishbowl! It is like a blue hawaiian of some sorts, only bubbly and only 20 bucks (4 person drink). My wife had the chefs salad (i think) and she was in heven! I had a club sandwich, it was good! Only downfall was I had to order fries sepratly, but was worth it.

  • Darlene P.

The decor is fun and pleasant and the cheeseburgers are great but their fries, nacho's and ceasar salad left a lot to be desired. Also, the tables and menu's could use a little more care when being cleaned. However, I have to say that their cheeseburgers are really good and if I were in Waikiki again wanting a cheeseburger I would return but please work on those skinny icky fries, nice thick fries should accompany such a fine burger! Aloha, darlene

  • Nick B.

Great service but horrible food. Their big Kahana burger is nothing more than a gray burger with a slice of greasy ham and a piece of canned pineapple. Not sure if they are aware that you can in fact get fresh pineapple here. It was completely disgusting. The place smells like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The girls working there were very nice and attentive but it just isn't enough to warrant a return trip.

  • Brian W.

Had the loco moco, and it was awful. The burger was bad and the brown gravy tasted like the smell of dog food. Our waitress was talking to some friends for over 7 minutes all the while my drink was empty. Shouldn't have left a tip at all but it definitely reflected the awful food and poor service.

    (1)
  • Dan R.

I asked the waitress what she recommended and ordered the turkey sandwich. It was for sure the worst sandwich of my life except for those ones you get at AMPM if you're desperate. Soggy and the lettuce tasted moldy and the bread was cheap white bread roll. Atmosphere is nice. Wait staff is nice. Prices are good. And when I told them my sandwich was soggy they comped my drink.

Decent food, prime location. Awful service and pushy staff. The guy handing out cards was extremely and annoyingly pushy to the point where it was flat out rude. The service was slow and when brought our checks the waitress was unable to split our checks in a large group which was fine except for the fact that when split into groups of 3 our gratuity was hiked up to %30, way above the %18. Just cause were college students Doesn't mean we can't do math. After arguing, the waitress finally admitted to hitting the gratuity twice. Over all awful place and should be shut down.

    (2)
  • Jenna M.

Wow. Been walking past this place forever and finally tried it because Marukame was too long a wait. A guy came out front and gave us coupons and persuaded us to come in. Terrible service and then expected to pay 30% gratuity because "the machine put it in twice". Our waitress was really really ditzy and the staff was pretty clueless overall. There was also a creepy bathroom attendant in the women's restroom. It was absolutely bizarre. Food was decent. The only redeeming quality was the amazing live musician. He was charismatic and very talented. Will not be coming back.

I'm going to start my review with this: I'd pay more money to have my next drink than sit here and drink a good price beer special. It's just loud and wasn't given that great of service. We were looking for somewhere to get a good bite to eat and while this place had food, it wasn't good, it lacked any care in it's preparation, and I couldn't even hear my wife across the table. We beat the cover charge to get in, ate and then beat it. This will not be on my revisit or recommend list.

Was looking for something to eat that was off of the main road and landed upon Da Big Kahuna. It was cheap compared to other places. Service was super fast! And the food hit the spot. Would definitely go again.

I usually dont heed reviews..rather, I take them like a grain of salt. I saw this place while waiting for the traffic light to turn green and thought it looked decent. The food was fairly good..had the Kalua Pork Quesadilla. .very good and quite large. Also ordered the Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings and not disappointed. The Bud Light on draft and for $3.75 was excellent too. As for the service..greeted immediately upon entering and was approached by a server quickly.

You have to get da fishbowl! If you don't know what that is, just look at the pictures on the outside window! Or on yelp! The chicken wings were A-MAZING! Crunchy on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside! And boy were they spicy, just how I like 'em! I was going to order my own fishbowl, but my hubby said we should just order one for now then order another later if we finish it. When it came, I didn't think it was going to be enough for the both of us. I was a little irritated with him because I thought it was going to be a weak drink that you can slurp down in 2 seconds. I hate to admit this but boy was I wrong! (Yes, hubs you were right, for once! haha!) We were about half way through and I didn't think it was a big deal until I stood up. Man was I feeling it!!! By the time we finished the wings and da fishbowl I thought I wasn't going to be able to make the 2 block walk home! Let me tell you what happens when your first meal of the day is super hot wings and da fishbowl. HEARTBURN! Ouch. But sooooo worth it. We had great service too! It probley helped that we went when it wasn't peak time. I'm so glad I experienced da fishbowl! Everyone was amazed when they saw the pictures,, whoever thought of this is a complete genius! Why didn't I think of it??? I'll be back for sure!

Marukame across the street was PACKED and the line was down the block so we decided to stop in at Da Big Kahuna. The service was friendly and attentive and we were seated immediately. I loved that there was live music. Big plus. The menu prices are pretty cheap for Waikiki but the food quality of the items we ordered we so-so. My friends had eaten earlier so we opted for appetizers to split. The nachos with chicken was ok. I was disappointed that it was cheese sauce instead of real melted cheddar (yeah, I don't do hydrogenated oil and corn syrup solids) but was stoked that the guacamole, salsa, and sour cream came on the side. The chicken was cubed instead of shredded but it was fine especially considering that it was about $11 -$12 for the plate. We also ordered the coconut shrimp for less than $10. Crunchy, warm, pretty delicious. I'd definitely order that again. We didn't order the fish bowl but it looked amazing. Overall the experience was fine. Da Big Kahuna offers affordable bar food with live music. Fun!

Don't remember the food @ all. Fish bowls were fun, but obviously incredibly watered down. The waitress looked @ me & my friend like we were crazy when we asked for a second one - asked that we finish the 3 sips left of our first one before she felt comfortable taking that order. Strange. Maybe people just get really shit faced in this touristy part if Hawaii.

  • Michael M.

My wife and I went here because the Udon place across the street was closed. They get 2 stars because we were seated quickly and service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere wasn't bad either decorated in tasteful Hawaiian Kitch. The food, however is a different story. My wife ordered the Big Kahuna Burger, and I ordered the Hawaiian Plate. Neither dishes were terribly good. The pork on the Hawaiian plate was fatty and dry. The burger was too big to eat, and would fall apart on each bite. My wife was also disappointed because it was advertised to come with pineapple, which it did on the side (she was assuming it was grilled pineapple).

We called in here for lunch a couple of times whilst visiting waikiki. The sandwich and salad menu is a good selection and the portion size is good for a hot waikiki afternoon. Wasn't so keen on the salad dressings that come with the side salads but overall very tasty. Kalua pork is a must! The restaraunt feels a little dark and dingy during the day and I got the feeling the place is more laid out and designed to be a nightclub/bar/drinking hole for the evenings but for a good cheap lunch you can't complain!

    (3)
  • Emily M.

The staff here is really amazing and friendly, but the food is pretty horrible. We went during happy hour so thank god all the appetizers we ordered were half off. Our nachos were only like 7$ instead of 14$, which I would have been pissed to shell out for nachos covered in nacho cheese. The vibe is kinda weird and dated. This place needs some work. I would only return to grab a cheap drink.

I gotta say, I find this restaurant better than Jimmy Buffets. My friend and I ordered garlic fries, kaluha pork nachos and the chicken wings. Everything was tasty and delicious. Everything is decently priced. The serivce here was good. Our server was really friendly and checked on us frequently. We will be back here next time we are in Waikiki.

This is a decent pub style restaurant with lots of tables and has an area for a band. The food was OK, the drinks were OK, and the service was OK. Apparently they are known for their fishbowl drinks, but they were out of fishbowls when we went for some reason (the place was about 25% full so not sure how this was possible). Anyways, an overall decent place but nothing too special.

  • Michael J.

Service at the bar was friendly and attentive. They have karaoke which is always awesome, as even if you don't sing you can be entertained by people who are attempting to do so despite being so drunk that their vision of the screen is blurry and their words are slurred. Beers are decently priced. I didn't try their food but they appear to have plenty of seating. I also saw a lot of people hooking up in this bar.

Walked in for breakfast at 9 am. Only one other table of four seated in the whole restaurant. No air conditioning. Sat at table for 7 minutes. Nobody ever came into the dining area so we left. Glancing at the menu... no breakfast items even though they had a banner that said they served breakfast. Usually when nobody is in a restaurant, it's for a reason.

    (1)
  • Stephanie B.

So if it's open seating you would think they were slow enough to serve us right away. Well not the case and we were really hungry. Our server passed us and didn't even bother to say she would be with us shortly. Needless to say when she headed towards the table that sat after us we left.

Pros Location Atmosphere Music Drinks had a decent amount of alcohol Cons Food was lackluster Food not worth price I had the Hawaii plate. It was bland and underwhelming. Mozzarella sticks were decent though. Fruit punch didn't taste good but did have a good amount of alcohol. Service was pretty bad. The table next to us was angry because it took so long to get the check. I waited five min after receiving my food for a fork. (Waitress left and came back, took another person's order at our table, left again for a while before finally returning with fork). Awkward sitting in front of my food for five min like that. Especially when I eventually watched her walk and grab it in ten seconds... otherwise my friend waited so long for his second beer he just got up and got it from the bar opening a second tab. Not to mention I started this review ten to fifteen minutes after asking for the check. I have thought and written this novel on my galaxy s3 one handed while simultaneously holding a conversation about the bar/club upstairs... guess what? Checks not here yet but looking promising. But I'll give them a two for trying. Plus my friend found one of the workers to be cute and my friends liked that big drink with the many straws. Honestly this place deserves a 1. Don't come. -___-

Karaoke on a Thursday night. Had some fun heckling...only because I dont sing in public. hahaha! Another place that does not serve Big Wave :( Stopped in with a few friends, one was visiting from out of town. had to show them what the Fish Bowl was all about! I don't think I was missing much, but I guess it was a good time :-\ Unless I have another tourist friend coming to town, this place is not on my hit list.

I really wanted to like this place, After passing countless chains (PF Changs, CPK, Ruth's Chris, Cheesecake Factory, etc, etc), my sister and I were hoping this would be a local hot spot. Upon walking in, we waited at least five minutes to even be noticed by a host. We should have realized this would foreshadow their overall service. While we waited, we were serenaded by a Hawaiian singer/guitar player. He was performing his renditions of Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and other singer/songwriters. Not too bad! I'll give them one star for their live music. The other star (in case you were wondering) is for there abundance of ceiling fans. This was clearly in lieu of A/C, and it created a nice breeze. Right off the bat, we both asked about their local beers on tap-- Hawaii has some great ones! Much to our surprise, they had ONE called Primos. If you like Bud Light, you'll love this beer. Service was slow, so this may have impacted the temperature of the quesadillas. Our waitress also spilled about 25% of our beers on the way to our table but didn't mention it or compensate. To sum it up, we left half of our food untouched and didn't bother finishing our beers.

Wanted to try something a bit different so we went here and I had the hawaian burger and some coconut shrimp and fell absolutely in love with both. Staff was very friendly and they had a guy playing very good live music as well. Lots of interesting drinks as well. A Must for anyone in the area.

I went this past Saturday. There was a minimal cover & we were seated quickly. The waitress also greeted us & took the order immediately. However, drinks and food took FOREVER to arrive. First our waitress stopped by & gave the excuse that they were all out of fishbowls (for this watered down blue alcoholic "drink for 4 people") & waiting for a clean one to come out of the dishwasher. Haha. Eventually wings & garlic fries arrived & we're told crab legs will be right up. She disappears for like 20 mins & is shocked "no one" brought them out to us yet. Then she claimed someone stole her order. Lame excuses but she resolved it quickly. Saturday night is dancehall night. There was a cool, mixed crowd that night. IMO the atmosphere is slightly less corny-touristy than some other wakiki spots...Don't go on Saturday night if you don't like a loud blend of dancehall & hip-hop music/videos.

The first time I came here was back in 2006, I was so excited to come back. From what I remember this was a super awesome bar with some great snacks and local favorite dinners. Now, fast-forward to last week I couldn't be more disappointed in their service, food, and manner. The food quality is definitely not the same, right now it as good as middle school cafeteria. Everything was thrown into a bowl and was serviced in prisoner manner, gross. Since we are on vacation we decided "hey! Why not try the famous fish bowl?" we ordered it and our waitress failed to tell us, but it came in a beer pitcher with two weird toy goldfish. Since it's not a fish bowl, it was totally weird and pointless to add the decorative goldfish toys! It was such a mockery! After the entire disappointing meal, we ask for the check the waitress charged my card to a different tables amount, which was obviously a lot more than our bill. That was the cherry to an annoying night. So, at the end we were charged $20 for a blue pitcher (with some weird plastic fishy!) and some middle school cafeteria food quality. If this is due to change of management, please change it back!

Love this place! Great happy hour Monday-Friday all day! $3 wells and draft beers and half price appetizers! The nachos were great! Da Fish Bowl drink is AMAZING!

Place was decent. Service was great. Fries sucked. Ordered a pitcher of Sierra Nevada for nine bucks which it's a decent deal. The Big Kahuna burger was pretty good.they have a good ass sauce to put on it and a pineapple slice added something different than most pub burgers. Again though fries sucked.

Walked in and I sat ourselves because there was no one to seat us. No greet for about 5 minutes. We ordered alcohol and it tasted watered down. Tried to make a food order and she was gone for what felt like forever. After a loooong wait, we decided to just leave because we felt she was never going to come back. Nothing worth going to if you're not a local.

Ok, this is one clear example of not judging a book by it's cover. From the outside, it may look like your typical tourist trap but the food is actually really delicious! The first time we came, a man outside the door handed me a coupon for a free Mai Tai or fries. Even though this seemed a bit shady, I choose the fries alongside with my garlic shrimp and rice and chicken wings. The garlic shrimp was flavorless and the rice was too wet, so this was disappointing. However, Da Big Kahuna gets 4 stars because of their amazing WINGS! Never have I eaten such perfect chicken wings before. They are so meaty and succulent and perfectly crispy yet still well sauced, I was amazed. Everytime my BF and I go to a wing place, like Wing Stop or Dirty Birds, we always look at one another and say "well, it's no Da Big Kahuna..." I did go back one more time for more wings (they are even good as leftovers. And cold!) and a mahi mahi salad and fries. The salad was nice and light, and the mahi mahi was perfectly grilled. The presentation was also nice. The servers are all women wearing short shorts, but they are all very nice and attentive. After dinner, you can go play pool or some video games.

Been here a couple of times, food is good but a bit overpriced. I also got the chance to order the fish bowl. It was pretty good, but I didn't taste any alcohol. I'm a lightweight, so for me to not even get the slightest bit buzzed was a little weird. The girl working told us that there were four different shots of liquor in there. Maybe it got watered down??

Great pizzas and subs. Anything I'm in the around I try to stop in an get a bite to eat. During lunch is always packed so if you can call in your order.

Honestly we went here for the sole reason to listen to music. We did not eat, we just had drinks. I may have eaten had their dessert menu been decent but it consisted of generic cheesecake...and one other item that I can't remember...which only means that it was not appealing. They don't validate parking so you must trot on over from one of the side streets or pay a king's ransom for public parking. The music was nice. It is more lounge music. Decent "no name" musicians. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired. It was old and could really use a makeover. It almost felt moldy. Service was pretty good. Waitresses were friendly and we got our drinks fast. There was a random girl in a bikini top, no shoes and some kind of skirt walking in and out of the manager's office in a drunken stupor. I called the manager to ask who was playing that night and he didn't know. I thought that was a little strange. Overall...not bad...I probably wouldn't go back. There are tons of other awesome places to go in Waikiki.

My friend falsely led us to believe that this place was Big Kahuna's Pizza in restaurant form. WRONG. The restaurant sign doesn't help emphasize the "Da" in the name either. I love Big Kahuna's so you can imagine my disappointment when I saw ridiculous price and no pizza on the menu. Teriyaki Steak Plate (13.95) - I don't know what possessed me to order this but it was TERRIBLE. SO TERRIBLE I cannot begin to emphasize. It was the worse thing I have ever order from anywhere. It was so salty that it was close to being inedible. I'm not exaggerating because other people on my table tried it and agreed with me. I was so hungry I ate less than half of it; trying to shove as much rice in to tone down the salt. SO HORRIBLE. Everything else was nothing special. It all kind of sucked basically. I hope this comes as a warning and no one else ever falls in my place. The money you spend on this place will get you a much better meal. One last thing, when you walk in this place, it smells like a musty old gym room.

**************** REVIEW 409 ****************** A casual spot a block down from the busy International Market. It's a Hawaiian fast food kind of place. The food is huge portion here, fattening snacks : - Chicken strips, - Quasedilla, - Coconut Shrimps, - Pipikaula Po'ki, Their Maitai & cocktails are good here & how can I forget the "Da Fish Bowl", its bigger than my head! These nice local Hawaiian guys let me try it, it was good. Service was very good & attentive. Did I mention their waitresses here are some of the hotties in this part of town? Almost remind of Hooters!

I don't remember where we were going when we walked by Da Big Kahuna the first time, but I walked by and saw someone drinking a drink out of a fish bowl. Yes! A fish bowl! I was so enamored by it that I told Cam we were definitely going back later for that drink. So go back we did. There was also a guy handing out coupons right in front that gave us a free fry. So we got the fish bowl, which was 3 different kinds of rum, plus blue curacao and Sprite (I think) and the fries, as well as their 1lb crab platter. The free fries were a joke; they were itty bitty and not even enough for a snack for one person. The drink was yummy though it was really weak. Cam and I both sucked it down pretty fast (despite it being huge) and didn't get much of a buzz. The crab platter was also weak. I must have been previously frozen, and however they cooked it made it a little over done. It was also a sad, un-muscley crab (yep, I said that) because he didn't have much meat. We decided after all that that we weren't done. So we ordered the nachos with Kalua pork, and I had another drink that came in a real coconut (or so the menu said.) The nachos were unfortunate; the pork was drier than all get out, and the cheese was worse than the stuff I served on the nachos at the movie theater when I worked there. The drink also came in a shadow of a coconut, a cup that had once been a coconut and was now polished and engraved with the name of the restaurant on the side. I didn't care too much because I got to keep it and the fish bowl (and the fish bowl even had fish in it!). Regardless, I would probably stick to just drinks if I came here again. And not the fishbowl, because it was $24 and weak.

It's places like these that make me avoid Waikiki. My friends and I specifically came to order the drink known as the "fish bowl." It's a plastic fish bowl they stick some plastic fish into and a whole bunch of sugary cheap liquor. We even bought goggles to wear to make our fish bowl night complete. It was going to be awesome. UNFORTUNATELY the bar only had ONE fish bowl !!? We were offered to have the same drink but in a pitcher instead... No.. How would that be the same experience?! We took over 30mins to find parking, drove from the east side, just for the fish bowl.. And now your're telling us there is just one fish bowl in the whole entire bar!! So we asked to talk to the manager, maybe he could explain to us or help us sort this out. We learned people have been stealing the fish bowls and the company who makes them are having issues and theres basically nothing they can do. They only have one fish bowl... So I explained two weeks ago my friend came and they had 2 fishbowls just for their table and the surrounding tables had them too. But the manager kept giving us attitude, not even offering the alternative pitcher idea the waitress had. I pointed out something to the manager only to get the response of "really?! Really?! You're going to do that now?!" Um excuse me?!?! You don't talk to customers like that. The manager had no professionalism at all dressed in his baggy clothes and baseball cap. I am not coming back here . I would rather buy a fish bowl from a pet store, easily done!, and make my own drink that tastes a whole lot better. I'm not surprised that the place wasn't packed for a friday night. & the food was edible..

Negative stars. Assault. The reviews are right about this place, they have a short tempered staff that argues with customers and they will actually try and fight you. I want everyone to know what a horrible place this is.

they had Loco Moco when the International Marketplace food court didn't. they had Loco Moco when L&L was closed for some type of cleaning... at 1230p on Friday. it was pretty good. the burger wasn't overcooked and the egg was perfect. my only knock is the price. $12 is a little steep for Loco Moco. but, at least, they had Loco Moco.

after walking up and down waikiki beach area, we decided on here, partly because we saw the decent and cheap menu on the chalkboards outside, and also we were given free mai tai or free french fries coupons from the guy outside. i think thats what enticed others as everyone had a small bowl of french fries. i ordered the kahuna burger and it was HUGE. meat, ham, bacon, cheese, pineapple on a bun with lettuce tomato and onion on the size. one of the largest burgers ive faced, and could only eat half. fries were standard, not enough for me, but it was free. my friends nachos were simple, TONS of chips, fake cheese (YUM!), jalapenos, black olives, and a side of guac/salsa/sour cream. nachos were yum, but soooo much! this place is definitley bout quantity. the inside of the place is a little dingey, but looks like a good bar scene with pool tables and a dj in the later nights. a guy was playing guitar and singing during the evening when we were there. good voice. cheap dinner, good foods, good times.

I love korean chicken wings, and the asian spicy wings they have here are a much milder version of the kind I'm used to, but they were still pretty good. The sauce is basically just the sweet chili sauce used in a lot of thai dishes, but the chicken was also made pretty spot on. I also had the coconut shrimp, which also came with sweet chili sauce. Nachos were just okay, and the loco moco looked pretty good. I didn't like how they do not put the drink prices on the menu. It is so awkward to ask the waitresses how much they cost. I'm giving this place 5 stars because they seem to try to take care of their customers pretty well. I came with a pretty big party and we split the bill ourselves, three of us paying with credit card. They do automatically add gratuity, btw. We tried to make it easy for the waitress by writing on a napkin how much to put on each card, each including part of the tip. She came back with the receipts, and we noticed that we were charged another gratuity on top of what we said to put on the cards.....I guess the cashier machine automatically puts it on and she didn't realize....I was pretty upset. Automatically charging us almost 40% tip is not okay. It took awhile for her to take off the extra tip and bring us new receipts. The manager even gave the three of us a round of shots (although they didn't check my ID......awk). A free shot is a free shot!

We were looking for something to eat. We have tried many places around... It looked a bit different so we decided to try. Devore was weirded and dark.. Washroom was dirty and old. Portions were too small. Staff were friendly but very slow. The only positive thing there is live music, which was actually good.

Great find! My bf and I were trying to catch the Giants vs Dogers game and were blessed to stumble upon this place! They were very accommodating and tuned one of their multiple televisions to the baseball game. Our bartender was pretty attentive and their happy hour deals are awesome! Our gigantic bowl of gravy fries were amazing and the perfect ball game snack. Minus one star for not having ginger ale, they mixed a weird combo of sprite and coke. It's cool tho, we'd go back for another happy hour! Their pupus were cheap and tasty!

    (4)
  • Ron D.

Beefy tasting locomoco, undercooked rice lacking water and undercooked eggs over easy - no wonder they are giving free fries, which are hard! Don't be fooled by the guy in front giving you free coupons for food! One star added because the waitstaff was very helpful in packing my take out.

  • Greg P.

It's your typical bar food. $2 Mai Tais don't have liquor in them so don't be enticed by that special. Did not have enough wait staff so service was painfully slow. Popular hamburger was not bad.

    (1)
  • BB H.

Burger was very tasty but again with the music cranked at a volume where you just want the doo-wop/surf tunes to stop. Also, bizarrely the floor is not level on the far side of the place. Chair wobbled like a Weenble. Oh, yeah, they forgot a part of our order.

For the past four years that I've lived in Waikiki, I've visited Da Big Kahuna quite a few times. For the most part, their food is pretty good, nothing over the top or anything though. I will say that their local dishes like the Hawaiian Plate, North Shore shrimp plate and the loco moco are pretty tasty. They also get pretty busy late at night, when drunk people come stumbling in looking for a bite to eat and some more drinks. I have not had their fish bowl that they serve, but I must say it does look really good. All of their drinks are pretty tasty, but I don't think they put enough alcohol in their beverages. Long story short, I don't think you're going to get a bad meal at this place, and if you're looking for just a casual dining experience that still has a "Hawaii" feel to it, this is a good place to come and relax.

It's a dive bar. Cold Beer Cheep Whiskey Decent Food (3 out of 5 stars) Good place to watch people. The wait staff and bartenders are friendly and the place is kind of run down. Nothing is top shelf, which is its charm. If the everything was better, it would not be a dive bar, and I wouldn't come here. If you want great food go to Morton's, if you want better service go to Dukes, but if you want to have a few drinks, maybe a bite to eat and chill, this is where to go

Good place for cheap drinks- there's a guy handing out coupons for $2.50 mai tais in front. If you don't see him, sometimes the coupons are pegged on the board. Casual laid-back atmosphere with friendly staff. There are cool seats in the window, if you're lucky to snag those- it's a popular place, so it tends to get crowded. We usually get here late, so we just sit at the bar. I've read mixed reviews on the food on another search engine with several people stating that the burgers don't come with fries (bummer). Can't comment on the food though.

Two weeks ago my family and I went down to Waikiki. While we were there we stopped by Da Big Kahuna for a bite to eat. I heard they had great food but, this time I get to experience for my self. The service was great, I ordered the one lbs of snow crabs they did not disappoint. If you are looking for a place to come and relax and watch the game and eat good food I recommend Da Big Kahuna. Make no mistake its a little on the pricey side but, that only depends on how many people are in your party. The waitresses are VERY nice and friendly. I do hope everyone will try Da Big Kahuna.

I work across the street and get off late so I'm happy their kitchen stays open relatively late (typically last call for food at 2:30). Best is chicken wings (I like crispy with ranch on the side and I'll bring buffalo sauce for my coworkers) and their crab legs! Love eating here. I mostly do take out but for everyone that's reading that would like to know about the place it's a chill spot to hang out and drink/eat. Staff is nice- one of the female bartenders there is AMAZING. She's got skills for realz lol but I saw here working on a busy night and she was quick as hell and impressed my friends and I at the bar that night. :)

First time I came about 2 days ago during the day and had fabulous service and the food was delicious. Came back on Saturday night, had to pay a 5 dollar cover charge JUST TO EAT. At 930?!???? Shrimp plate was horrid. The fish n chips weren't as good as the day before ( shouldn't the food be excellent at all times, if not better on the busier days????). Also did I mention it wasn't busy. At all. Possibly 3 or 4 other tables and everyone else was at the bar. Disappointed to see the business go from excellent to "I'll never be back again". Especially since we're staying right next door at the Waikiki Wave.

Very cool place, especially if you grab a window seat to enjoy the outside breeze of the busy Waikiki streets =) We only stopped in for one quick drink just for the sake of experiencing new things while on our vacation, but the service was great! They checked on us regularly and suggested menu items. The crowd is different but friendly. Its a tourist town so you'll see a variety of faces.

I wouldn't have even given them a star but it was my only choice. They do not respect military at all I'd rather go to the mc-fucking-Donald's than this place . I had two drinks over the space of 7 hrs and they said I was too drunk to enter their establishment . If your military and visiting Oahu DO NOT GO TO THIS SHIT BAG of a place. Oh unless you want hookers and STDS which are apparently the crowd here . STDs on the side . .. Thanks shit hole

Divey bar type place right off of Kuhio, open late and decent deals on cheap beer and decently priced bar type food (apps, burgers, etc) - especially right smack in Waikiki. If you want a cheap place to chill without a ton of military and tourists, I'd recommend.

The waitresses were grumpy and the Hawaiian Punch tasted very artificial and too juice-y. We ordered the fish n chips, chicken katsu, and the mahi mahi. I felt really disgusting after this meal. Service sucks here and it was really hard to get anybody's attention.

All around average food, very basic menu, typical bar food throw a pineapple on it and call it Hawaiian. Staff very nice friendly and fast. I really wouldn't suggest coming here. But I can't say anything bad really, it's just average. Would I recommend this place........ No.

This is a chill spot with pretty good happy hour prices. $3 well drinks and $3-4 beers. Certain selection of appetizers are half off except the seafood appetizers. I ordered their Kalua pork quesadilla and it was BIG!!! It came with a side of sour cream, salsa and guacamole. I ordered gin and tonic for my drink. Service was good and you get a good view looking out the window from the bar or sitting at a table nearby, that is if you like to "people watch!" My total bill was only $11.00!! Not bad indeed. I just went online to check out their website and they have a coupon - buy 1 drink and get 1 free. I say download this coupon before you go in. Can't beat that! Cheers!!!

Employees are friendly and know their menu. Their happy hour is great, if all you're looking for is booze. However, if your looking for quality food, this is not the place for you. I had their teriyaki beef and it was beyond rubbery. My husband had the moco loco, and he actually got sick from it. Needless to say, we will not be going back!!

  • Cliff B.

Place is tourist kitsch but not a bad perch to sip some cheap drinks ($3 happy hour beers or wells) and people watch from. Food, particularly during the day when it's quiet, is average. My turkey bacon sandwich was ok but the bread quality poor, and my partners tortilla wrap was 90% rice with sparse few other ingredients. From previous trips recall the dinner food being a bit better (when they're busier) but my advice is to hold the food, enjoy some drinks, then head on elsewhere for a meal.

This place is a shithole. Don't go there if your life depended on it. Staff I'd crap and they look to start fights. They won't let you in based off the color of your skin. Stay away from this place. There all assholes.

Great bar in Waikiki downtown. It is walking distance from a few of the hotels so you don't have to call a shuttle, taxi, or worse yet, park near it. They have $3 beer of the days and happy hour from 10:30 AM to 6 PM. They play live music and also have karaoke!! I enjoyed their loco motion (local dish) and the Huli Huli chicken. We also had an order of their nachos. The atmosphere was calm before 6 but got a little noisier after 7. This may depend on the night, but I was there on two weeknights. I would definitely go back here again. And last note, the prices are great compared to a lot of the other places on the strip.

Was starving after snorkeling and browsed around this area for some local food. The locals of course don't really eat around here as it's expensive and likely too "touristy" to be authentic. The lady did suggest here as the only nearby option not commenting whether it was good or not so I just took it and went. The waitress recommended the loco moko to be the more popular of the entrees so I gave it a try. It looked good and it was pretty typical "American" size. Two fried eggs, a large hamburger pattie over large size rice with gravy all over. It had all the ingredients for great Yum factor but none of the ingredients were very good quality. Hamburger wasn't flame broiled but rather close to steamed, and wasn't homemade. Everything was just lukewarm. Gravy bland. Great service and pricing though!

I went here yesterday in lieu of one of my favorite food stops in Waikiki being closed (Hula Dog/Puka Dog). It was happy hour, I was with my mom, and it just so happened to be her 60th birthday. Happy hour was awesome. 50% off pupus, with the exception of fish and mozzarella sticks, specials on beer and well drinks. We ordered the quesadilla with kalua pork, onion rings, chicken strips, and the fish bowl. The quesadilla and onion rings were awesome! My mom enjoyed the chicken strips. She really liked the fish bowl (a must get while you're here...for a photo opt, not to get wasted, unless you drink it by yourself). The fish bowl included three rums, peach schnapps, blue curaco (sp?), two giant straws and two plastic fish. The waitress was quick and attentive. I will be back.

Nothing special about the food. Not bad, but nothing I would crave to come back for. Waitress wasn't too attentive though. I had to walk to the bar and refill my own water glass.

Accept it for what it is: a touristy drinking joint where the food is an afterthought. Many reviewers enjoy this spot, so maybe my visit was in the wrong context: not to drink but to get a bite for lunch. The loco moco is surely an ample portion, and could have been pretty satisfying except for the requisite gravy, which in this case tasted as if it had been stirred up from a powder mix. My companion's coconut shrimp was described as having the texture of fish sticks, as if it were purchased in the freezer section and simply dumped into the fryer. Happy staff and super quick service at least offered a pleasant environment for lunch.

Whenever I visit Oahu, I come here for the Hawaiian Platter. The Kalua Pork and Lau Lau are delicious. The setting is cheesy and the service isn't great, however, it's a very satisfying and reasonably priced meal conveniently located in central Waikiki.

Came in during happy hour starving of course. Ordered the kalua pork quesadillas. Not bad. Especially because they were half off, huge portions and very friendly staff. Families the bartender was not just gorgeous but really great. had my ID not been stolen two days prior, I would have tried the drinks.

This location was recommended by a local person while on a family vacation. To start the decor was out dated; the matted carpets were a stand out along with homeless people brushing and flossing In both the male and female restrooms. To top it off a chihuahua dog was allowed into the establishment and a fellow who appeared to play the role of manager smacked a waitress behind. Let's get to the food part: STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!! The lava flow drink had no alcohol and was so sweet it could potentially put you in a diabetic coma. I ordered edamame as an appetizer for my son, they were dry and served with a single wilted piece of lettuce. My husband ordered the lau lau dish;pork and fish wrapped in taro leaves served with a side of kalua pig, rice and lomi; tomatoes & onions. The dish later caused heart burn, lol! My husband & I decided to share the appetizer sampler at $24.95 stay away it's a wooden bowl of over fried wings, onion rings, coconut shrimp which were so over fried the coconut was bitter, the mozzarella sticks were soggy. The only edible part of this dish was the snow crab legs. Overall, stay away! They try and get you with the drinks and catchy menu boards.

Only because I can't give it less. Service tried and decent attitude. Food was horrible. Whole place needs a deep scrub. Gross

Believe every review for this place, they are all true. I've spent the last week crafting the perfect food experience for myself and my loved ones. a delicious mix of legit island flavors and locals, along with drinks and attractions to really show the kind of Oahu I want to see. This place was a mistake, but my fault 100%. its a barn, everything about it is middle of the road. everything was just OK. the drinks were cheep and had booze in them, but they lacked flair. the food selection was lackluster, the food we ordered was just palatable. the main flavorings seemed to be salt and fat. I would feed this to my friends kids, but not to my own dog.

Awesomeness. The Mahi Plate was some of the best Mahi I've had in a long time. If you don't fancy eating meat their Garden Burger is great also! The wait staff was friendly and greeted us the second we hit the top step. I wouldn't hesitate about eating here and am a repeat customer myself.

The bartender and wait staff was very welcoming. They also had live music which was awesome on a Monday night. We got Da Fish Bowl, which was good. Also, $2 dollar Mai Tai if you use the coupon the pass out on Kuhio. The coconut shrimp was okay. The Kalua Pork Nachoes were huge! Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere on a Monday night.

The place is just a little bit nicer than a dive bar, but a good escape from the over priced waikiki bars. I can't comment on the food, but $3.00 draft beers in Waikiki is a good thing :-)

It was Saturday night and I wanted to hang out with my coworker. She said this place was pretty good. But I didn't know if it was the late night dancing was good or the food. I did yelp here before i came and it looked go-able. I was actually looking forward to the fish tank drink they had. It looked so interesting! But for the two of us to drink all that....not gonna happen. So we just ate food. The guy at the entrance said we could sit anywhere. There was only 2 tables left when we got there. So we sat in the middle. The waitress took a while to come to us. There were a bunch of them walking around. Anyways, so I ordered the tortilla wrap and my friend ordered the create your own burger with bacon and cheese (included with pineapple, lettuce and tomatoes). I really love the tortilla wrap! It was soooo good with rice, BBQ sauce and chicken. There was a plate of lettuce and the way it was presented was cute. Definitely filling.

A waitress gave away my table because the guy was cute...... Friday night, it was busy. My friends and I wanted a table to eat and drink. We saw a lot of tables filled with bottles and glasses but not occupied. We had no idea what table was taken or not. I asked a waitress which table we could go to, she led me to a table, called me over to it, and was in the process of clearing it. I turned to call my friends over, turned back and I see the waitess talk to a guy. I thought he was just ordering but he then stayed at the table the waitress just cleared for me..... I looked at the waitress and she said, "I couldn't help it, he's cute." Really?! My friends and I were gonna tip her good cause we're also in the same industry. I'm highly dissappointed in the staff.... I will not be eating here.

I really would love to give a few extra stars because the Dj is really good with music choice and there is somewhat of a dance floor, but I went here with friends and there was this server girl with brown hair, haole girl, forgot her name though unfortunetly. She got mad at me, the customer, because this girl I met just put a random shot in my face and told me to drink it. The server said that some other guys bought her a shot and we'll apparently she didn't want it so she gave it to me. Even when this rude server told me it was from some other guy in the place to give to the girl I was talking to. U gotta be freken kidding me. The server was so rude, she got mad at me and even when I confronted her about it she just blew me off. This girl has serious issues or something. Talk about FAKE. Just because you are a server doesn't mean you can just treat customers like crap when you feel like it. Yes people, she was that bad. She even tried to tell my guy friend that I was a douch for taking the drink, when I didn't even drink the deg on thing. We all will never come back because obviously someone doesn't know anything about customer service. Horrible experience. Some of the bartenders near the windows are nice, but not so much on the floor. Don't tip high enough, then you might catch an attitude from them. Unbelievable.

Whoa. Walked in here last month with co-workers and got suspicious at the bugs and odd behavior of the staff. Yelp to the rescue! Checked 'em out on my phone app and when I read about the complaints of ASSAULT and STRONG-ARMING you for more $$ than you owe, we upped and walked out before ordering. SERIOUSLY, READ THE REVIEWS BELOW BEFORE YOU SET FOOT IN HERE!! But...as a totally irrelevant but much more cheerful side-note, check out the 3 Japanese reviews (click 'Japanese' next to the 200+ English Reviews halfway down the page). Japanese tourist can post yelp reviews in japanese characters?! Who knew? Yelp needs to add a translator service to their mobile app so tourists can read the english reviews and avoid scary places like this!

Fucking god awful. I went in and got treated like shit. The bouncer was an asshole who treated me like garbage because I left my ID right by, with my friends as I attempted to pay my tab. The key was the fact that I was of very few at the bar anyways. The bouncer promised he would reimburse us at 1230 if the place didn't pick up. After being confronted he said sorry I can't. Bar was dead the entire time. The only nice part was the DJ. If I could give less than one star I would.

I used to really enjoy Da Big Kahuna, but their security/bouncer staff is out of control. Normally you might worry about a drunk customer getting too rowdy, but here you have to worry about the bouncers. BE CAREFUL! I was here with 9 friends enjoying drinks and dancing when a bouncer came and flashed a strobe light in my face. I said nothing, took a step back, and he walked away. Later, I was in line in the restroom and he came apparently looking for someone or something. After he paced around a few times, I asked him if he was looking for someone. He replied, "What did you say to me?" and then followed, "I work here bro, that's it, you're out of here." I asked to see management and they just brought another bouncer. I explained that I had 9 friends inside, had left my cell phone with my girlfriend, and just wanted to let them know I was kicked out - nothing - he wouldn't listen to a word. The more senior bouncer was just covering for the younger guy who was looking for fights. Meanwhile, I was stuck outside with no way to contact anyone. I could understand if I was drinking too much or causing some sort of problem, but this was ridiculous. I will never visit Da Big Kahuna again and will let all of my friends know to be careful. The managers really need to reconsider who they employ.

Meh. Stopped by on vacation and looking for a place to grab a drink. Ordered two beers and nachos. $9 for nachos and it turned out to be stadium nachos...the ones with the orange imitation cheese. I love those type of nachos too, but usually at a football game or movie theatre, not at a restaurant. Spacious, very nice servers and great place to watch sports. Overall, just meh.

I guess I have no real complaints, you get the quality of food you would expect once you walk in the door. It is bar food, nothing fancy about it, nothing horrible. They did seem to have some decent happy hour specials and the place is pretty busy at night it seems. I also got some United Miles for eating here, so that's cool.

On New Year's Eve, my friend and I came upon this place. We decided to check out the food, as we were just visiting the island. The atmospere was on point. The music was great, the drinks were excellent and the service was phenomenal. We were having such a great time, we decided to stay the whole night. We came back to visit several times during our trip. We will definitely be back when we visit the island again.

Horrible. Do not go here. Me and my girlfriend walked in and they seated us and asked if we wanted out 2 dollar mai tais. We said yes and sat there for about 15 or 20 mins and nobody ever came back, no silverware, no waters, no drinks, no service. And we were extremely hungry. Avoid at all cost.

Great Mai tai!! Smooth taste. Served with a slice of pineapple like it should be. A little noisy but hey, it's a karaoke bar so it's expected. Rarely is there a cover here.

Been here twice they need to change the music and service I was at the bar waiting for about 20 minutes without a drink or more I honestly lost count the group of people behind me were so upset they left. They have a 5$ cover charge or 10$ Not exactly sure. My question is why!? The reason so many people come is because of the blue fish bowls that are watered down and don't have any fish mine was just plain blue. I came here because they have fishbowls in LA like this only they actually taste good and worth your 20$ do not waste your money.

In busy Waikiki, Da Big Kahuna provided me with a bit of reprieve from the masses on the beach. My original plans were to go to the Polynesian buffet across the street; but after reading its reviews, my taste changed and this was the nearest eatery without any line. I am glad that I did end up here. As it was not busy, we sat ourselves and the server came quickly with menus and drink offerings. The humidity had us just thirsting for water. Off the menu, I ordered the 1/2 lb. of crab legs and the peel-and-eat shrimp. The crab was clearly fresh; no previously frozen taste was detected. They were so succulent that only lemon was used - no butter! As for the shrimp, they were not so fresh, they did taste as if they were previously frozen.

Reminds me of a scene from restaurant steakout. The manager stands around talking with friends. Waitress takes forever to acknowledge you even though there is only 2 other tables occupied. Food marginal. Won't go back unless we have to.

5 stars for their kick ass fish bowls made with three kinds of rum, blue curacao, and peach schnapps. It was refreshing and not as sweet as a scorpion bowl. The thing was pretty big and even sharing it with my two friends it seemed never ending. yelp.com/user_local_phot… 3 stars for the chicken wings, fries, and onion rings we got. Nothing special, nothing terrible, just okay. 1 star for the smelly bar, it seriously smelled like smelly hockey gear that hasn't been washed for a while. I'll be back for the fish bowl so hopefully by then they'll deep clean their bar. YELP 365: 136/365

Go there if you want to be ignored! Tried to order food made eye contact with the waitress and she went to the table next to us and cleaned. Our table must not have been her table...not even a it's not my table but I'll let your waitress know your ready to order just eye contact and let me clean this table up. No wonder this place was not packed like all the other restaurants. To top it off air con NONE place smelt like a wet rag collecting mold! Don't know how they stay in business with such shitty service and hot air...

I went here back in early October of last year. It's great place to go for a quick bite if you don't feel like waiting around on a line to eat. Right up the street from plenty of the hotels this nice little spot has great decorations, really friendly bartenders and wait staff and incredibly comfy chairs to lounge in. Awesome spot to go to after the flight over from the main land. Had some amazing fries and the Pulled Pork sandwich is to die for!!

Always a welcome stop on my business visits. Bartenders are quick to serve, usually some great beers on tap although I wish they would add a few darker beers, but they have all of then in a bottle. Crab legs are great, fish and chips solid and every sandwich and burger is great. Tonight Miki had me try a few things outside my comfort zone, and everything was awesome! You go girl! Love the advice. Look forward to my next visits!

I was craving chicken wings and did not want to go to bdubs again. So after reading some reviews this seemed like a place to go. There was a guy out front giving out coupons, living in Waikiki I'm used to ignoring people with handouts, but luckily I took one of these because we were able to get $2 mai tais and a free side order of fries. The atmosphere was nothing special, it just seemed like a big dining room with lots of tables. The waitress was very nice and helpful but somehow very slow, even though the place was practically empty. When the food came the presentation was lacking. But the food was good. The one good thing I have to say about this place is that the chicken wings lived up to their expectations.

  • Bree b.

The food was JUST okay. It was greasy bar food that was overpriced. The place seemed kinda cheesy and dirty. We only stopped here because we were starving. The Loco Moco is a giant pass. The gravy tastes like it's from a jar or can and it's way under seasoned. Everything we had was actually. The service was JUST okay as well. I had better mai tais on the plane than the ones here. Go elsewhere.

We were lied to by the guy on the street offering us fee french fries with our meal.He was the manager because we saw him seating people and talking to all the tables.he is lucky he passed our table. other than slow service and seating ourselves..Nasty,horrible food...nachos,were gas station cheese, burgers were pressed beef..i wanted to send it back.barfff..very disgusted..to bad I cant rate the food a zero.what was sad is that a couple sat next to us as we were leaving and got the same run around about the fries ..and ordered the burgers..so ,we felt like this place is just overall shitty and not worth the money or time.I would of rather of went to subway down the street..

Almost remind of Hooters!

they had Loco Moco when the International Marketplace food court didn't. they had Loco Moco when L&L was closed for some type of cleaning... at 1230p on Friday. it was pretty good. the burger wasn't overcooked and the egg was perfect. my only knock is the price. $12 is a little steep for Loco Moco. but, at least, they had Loco Moco.

  • Matt B.

All around average food, very basic menu, typical bar food throw a pineapple on it and call it Hawaiian. Staff very nice friendly and fast. I really wouldn't suggest coming here. But I can't say anything bad really, it's just average. Would I recommend this place........ No.

Good bye.

Had the loco moco, and it was awful. The burger was bad and the brown gravy tasted like the smell of dog food. Our waitress was talking to some friends for over 7 minutes all the while my drink was empty. Shouldn't have left a tip at all but it definitely reflected the awful food and poor service.

Food made myself & my roommate sick; our overlap was the guac. Splitting the check four ways took over 20 minutes. Meh sums it up.

Fun!

  • BizzyLizzy K.

  • Jessica C.

    (3)
  • Michael J.

Service at the bar was friendly and attentive. They have karaoke which is always awesome, as even if you don't sing you can be entertained by people who are attempting to do so despite being so drunk that their vision of the screen is blurry and their words are slurred. Beers are decently priced. I didn't try their food but they appear to have plenty of seating. I also saw a lot of people hooking up in this bar.

    (3)
  • Jeff K.

Budget people! Head here for lunch, their happy hour is 12-6 weekdays and get the quesadilla.. its enough for two! Just 4 bucks. I'm unfortunately unimpressed with their food otherwise.. but every food joint has their forte

The food was fine. Not too expensive considering it's in the middle of Waikiki! Portions are good, and our waitress was really great! She kept checking on us, making sure we didn't need refills or anything like that! All in all, a decent place to eat!

BREAKFAST ONLY REVIEW I had to eat breakfast here and I had a 15% off coupon. It was the grossest eggs, bacon and potatoes I have ever had. Even the juice tasted like frozen concentrate. Boo. $9 down the toilet. They do take out and advertise a decent sounding happy hour....

total touristy resto right down kuhio but no less, it was close to BFF hot mama's work. with a name like big kahuna why the hell not.. we were in the mood for seafood that day so we got the crab legs and the buffalo shrimp. we wanted to have something light knowing that we are still gonna hit the beach later. we were seated by the window, great for people watching! talk about welcoming me to hawaii.. crab legs were fresh and tasty. we shared a plate and that was more than enough. the buffalo shrimp on the other hand needs more buffalo action. we got the hottest but it still needs some oomph! yeah, we like it hot and spicy that way. our server was great! she checked up on us and made sure everything was ok. she did managed to notice some stranger introducing himself to us and thought if we needed some "help". haha... she was cool! overall, not too bad of a place to get some grub. a little pricey but hey, ur in hawaii..

this is a bar and for a bar the food is decent but actually a lot of the fun begins at 10:30PM Sunday to Wednesday where the karaoke starts and ends at around 3:30am. Waitress's there are friendly and very attractive so as a guy good pupus, lively scenery, entertaining karaoke singing, attractive waitress's and good drinks what more can you ask for.

  • Shawn S.

My wife & I stopped in for afternoon happy hour. The beer specials & half price pupus were good. Only draw back... Each day only two beers on special. If its not beer you care for you'd be outta luck. Nice place though, we'll come back.

Food was good. Drinks were ok. I had two mixed drinks and didn't really taste the alcohol in either of them. Service was really good though. Overall not bad but I wouldn't go here again.

  • Valeri N.

But other than that, I will most definitely come back and get my nom on again.

stopped in for dinner because we were walking buy and it was loud and the menu looked good.

OMG the cheese balls here are awesome. I would suggest calling in an order. They sell out fast by the end of the day so I would recommend going early. The pizzas are awesome also. They do take a really long time to make if you are just walking in.

The food was gross, the drinks were weak, and by the end, I was really wishing I had just gone to Chili's, which is right down the street. Seriously. The guy outside trying to lure you into this place says "Nothing but chain food ahead". Believe me, this is one time when you WANT the chain food.

Can't get the nasty taste out of my mouth. The worst food I have ever eaten. Do yourself a favor, don't go there to eat, go across the street, I wish I did before I wasted my money

Service was a bit slow the day we went though so boo.

one of the servers here stole money from me then lied about it. shady bizz...she should be fired. the managers acted retarded until i spoke with the gm. then everyone was real nice. other than that. the edamame with sweet chili and garlic is boomb. still want to try their other food tho. prob wont. drinks were pricy too. but food prices seem reasonable.

They say its a "drink for four". ... the end.

Your basic burger and bar joint. I think it's trying to do a Hawaiian Hooters thing, but it doesn't really work. It's on the street behind the main drag in Waikiki, so it's not too crowed or too expensive.

    (3)
  • Karina B.

Cheers!!!

  • Steve C.

Divey bar type place right off of Kuhio, open late and decent deals on cheap beer and decently priced bar type food (apps, burgers, etc) - especially right smack in Waikiki. If you want a cheap place to chill without a ton of military and tourists, I'd recommend.

  • Alice H.

The waitresses were grumpy and the Hawaiian Punch tasted very artificial and too juice-y. We ordered the fish n chips, chicken katsu, and the mahi mahi. I felt really disgusting after this meal. Service sucks here and it was really hard to get anybody's attention.

I want everyone to know what a horrible place this is.

after walking up and down waikiki beach area, we decided on here, partly because we saw the decent and cheap menu on the chalkboards outside, and also we were given free mai tai or free french fries coupons from the guy outside. i think thats what enticed others as everyone had a small bowl of french fries. i ordered the kahuna burger and it was HUGE. meat, ham, bacon, cheese, pineapple on a bun with lettuce tomato and onion on the size. one of the largest burgers ive faced, and could only eat half. fries were standard, not enough for me, but it was free. my friends nachos were simple, TONS of chips, fake cheese (YUM!), jalapenos, black olives, and a side of guac/salsa/sour cream. nachos were yum, but soooo much! this place is definitley bout quantity. the inside of the place is a little dingey, but looks like a good bar scene with pool tables and a dj in the later nights. a guy was playing guitar and singing during the evening when we were there. good voice. cheap dinner, good foods, good times.

  • Ron D.

Beefy tasting locomoco, undercooked rice lacking water and undercooked eggs over easy - no wonder they are giving free fries, which are hard! Don't be fooled by the guy in front giving you free coupons for food! One star added because the waitstaff was very helpful in packing my take out.

Ok food.

Not even worth one star. Incredibly rude staff from the front of the house to the management. Horrible food.overpriced. they have no clue what customer service means. Not sure why I even tried to come back here more than once.

First visit was great --12 days later our second visit was not so good--- laurel got our order wrong and we waited forever 10-15 min for her to bring us our check. Won't be back...

This is a nice little stop with nice bar tenders and the shrimp appetizer was very good. They also had karaoke when we were there which was fun to watch.
