Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Used to be better as we would go here everytime when we visit the fam... now it seems to have gone downhill. I ordered the minute chicken with cake noodle and it took about 20 minutes to get my dish. My other family members were almost completely finished with their dish before ai even got my plate. Oh well... looking for a new cake noodle place for next time

Au's is not exactly in a prime area but I must say the food is very good, I feel they make the best crispy gau gee, Its like they mix it with a little beef because its not that pale grey color that is usually inside of gau gee, theirs is so rich in flavor and a must try if you go there! The stuffed duck is one of my favorite dishes from there, it has barley and chick peas and the amount they give is so much.

i like them only because it's a little easier to get parking. One of the few places I consistently go to eat cold ginger chicken.. Tasty Chop Sui is the other place. Service on par with what i expect from a Chinese restaurant. i need to eat other chinese restaurants or try more menu items. the table next to me had the saimin, the size alone looks to be at least $6 worth.. it must have been great because the guy ate an drank everything besides his mustard sauce an chop sticks.

Delicious take-out in 10 minutes...ain't nothin' wrong with that! Today we'll have some clams with black bean sauce, seafood cake noodles, kau yuk, and sweet sour spareribs.

Good chinese restaurant in the nimitz area. Their STEAMED fish and tofu is a winner. Love the pork and eggplant too. Not too crazy about the chow mein. Service was good too, our food was ready and hot in 15 or so minutes. Would go back here and get that STEAMED FISH and TOFU again. :)

Not great, not terrible. The area is very industrial, lots of garbage smells. The food is meh, what ever. The place itself has no charm, decoration, nothing. Very blah inside. I wouldn't go back. Parking is very limited.

Ive been coming here since I was practically born. Yes it is a hole in the wall but the food is so ono ! Soft Gaugee Mein, Won Ton Mein, Egg Foo Yung, Pork Watercress Hamhar, Roast Duck !!!!! SOOOOOOO GOOD and tasty.! Best chop suey on Oahu in my opinion. I like Golden Duck on King as well.. but the dishes at Aus are so much more tasty. The wait staff is extremely nice!! Love this place! Its been 22 years of good times... never once had a bad experience!

Ok, so I've been to many chinese restraunt since I could remember. First off this place kinda reminds me of a hole in the wall type place, only because of the surroundings. I've been there many times, so this place is a go to on my list! Pro's -Affordable -Food is great -Big portions -Friendly atmosphere -Quick to receive your food Con's -You might be waiting for a parking stall (not much parking available)

every local has their favorite little chinese joint. it's usually a comfortable little dive where the chinese waitresses won't slam the plates in contempt on the table, nor scowl and make some horrible statement under their breath in chinese if you should ask for extra shoyu/mustard and chopsticks for take-out. and if you're lucky nothing crawls by while you're eating should you decide to eat in. this is ours. i don't know about the "bubble gum beef" mentioned in the earlier review. in places like this i don't usually take chances, always ordering something familiar. i also tend to note that if the fried rice is good i am receptive to the other items i've ordered. this place makes a really tasty fried rice so the stage is normally set for me to enjoy the other items. i also have to say that if i only order 1-order of eggrolls for take-out, only the container makes it home. all of the usual suspects are pretty good to, i.e. sweet/sour pork. this is a decent place with decent people working in it. it's nothing special, but when i go out for this kind of food i'm not really looking for something "special". i'm either: a) looking for a place where the average working family on a tight budget goes for a decent dinner, or b) a place where people who party in the area stop to sobber up with a little food before their drive home. this place meets both of those expectations. another plus is they don't mind if you bring a beer to enjoy with your meal. i like that in a restaurant. mind you, it's nothing special, but it's something i can depend on when i'm craving decent american style chinese food. if you've lost your favorite local chinese restaurant lately i'd recommend you give this one a try. it might be a fit for you.

Roast duck!!!

My Sister recommended this place as she frequents it for lunch. The Kau Yuk was totally salty and not sweet at all, it also tasted old. The same goes for the minute chicken cake noodle. I've had minute chicken at different places where it was sweet and citrus like. Au's minute chicken is nothing but salty. They made us a dish of eggplant pork hash. Very little flavor, and almost no pork hash. I was also disappointed that they charged us $5 for a bowl of rice. All in all not the best experience.

I love this place. I think the food is great...and the staff efficient.....yum, yum.

If you enjoy the food at Legend Seafood Restaurant and Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant, you need to try Au's Garden Restaurant. The chef owner here had been head chef at Legend and Jade Dynasty before he took over Au's Garden from the previous owner in mid-June. You can expect to pay less for the same quality of food here at Au's. The menu has stayed the same and covers everything from authentic Chinese dishes to Americanized Chinese dishes. However, to showcase seasonal ingredients and the chef's expertise, there is also a daily specials menu. If you are adventurous/looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, I highly recommend ordering from this menu. I have been here twice in the last month and got to try a variety of different dishes. Some of my favorites include the honey walnut shrimp, shrimp yi mein (noodles), and braised pork belly. I believe the restaurant is BYOB and if you treat the staff with courtesy, they will return the favor and serve you with pleasure.

My first time trying the food at this restaurant and I would have to say that the food was awesome!! Hands down, the best Honey walnut shrimp!! Great service as well. I would definitely recommend!!
(5)Janice S.
I have new favorites. The French steak is yummy good. The choi sum with oyster sauce was very Ono. And we like the beef chow fun special on Thursdays. We go here mostly on Thursdays now.
(5)D C.
By far the best place to get/eat Chinese food from! Service is so so ... some ladies are super friendly, some forget your order and some look mean/grouchy - yikes! The restaurant could use a makeover but overall food is ono delicious! We love the dinner plate #2, dry beef chow fun (no onions), shrimp canton, crispy fault gee, duck w/ rice, lemon chicken, etc ... yum!
(5)Linda L.
Excellent food, reasonable price bring your own alcohol. You will eat the high quality restaurant taste with lower price. The food is amazing. You won't regret giving it a try with this new management and new cook!!!

My family have been ordering Chinese Take Out from here for years. For dine in we usually share a few ala carte items with their dinner plate or the Wun Tun Min Noodle Soup or Abalone Soup. For take out food we always order the following: Yeung Chow Fried Rice, Steamed fish with Green Onion and Ginger, Salt and Pepper Pork Chop or Shrimp, Beef and Snow peas, and Chicken with Black mushroom. Those are our favorite dishes but we also try their specials for the day. Service is always quick. Call ahead and your food will be ready within 15 minutes.

Great food!!! Highly recommended!! Waitress was friendly! Will definitely be back for more!!!

I'm not much of a fan of Chinese food but I must say this place makes me love it. The friendly staff made my experience so much more pleasant than usual at a Chinese restaurant. Very nice ladies here. I enjoy this place so much that I had my daughter sweet 16 birthday party here. And yes, it was a very good experience. They were on time with the food and the service was really good. The food was delicious. They were very accommodating and made whatever changes I wanted in the menu. No questions asked. My favorite dish would be the orange chicken. It's crispy and not so drowned in the sauce. Next is the string beans with pork. Nice spicy kick to it. The only thing would be the parking and location. Not very fond of the area and it's hard to find parking some times but to me, that's a small problem. Highly recommend.

Great service.. These ladies work as a team and are very nice!!! Food is good and portions are large.. Great value! We had the Roast Duck on Rice, sautéed Chinese Peas, Wor won ton Min.. Yum!

Sometimes a wannabe princess just wants to go have some greasy bad for you Chinese (or Americanized Chinese) food. This is where I go to when I'm in that mood. Small kind sketchy area? Check! Hole in the wall ambiance? Check! "No MSG used" sign missing? Check! My BF and I usually order one of their plate specials...I eat about half of mine and take the rest for lunch the next day. Their plates pack a lot of food, so we could share a plate, but we never do!

hands down best chinese food in Kalihi! scallop soup is BOMB so is everything else hole in the wall but so goood
(5)Patti L.
I know it's Mother's Day & it will be busy but to tell a walk in customer who is inquiring how long more will it be for the remaining 2 dishes " you see the line over here? Its for take out order & they are waiting." Is very bad customer service. A take out order is supposed to be started as soon as its called not 5 minutes later. The other 2 ladies are always nice. This one was rude. No smile no greeting. The service here is usually good.

The best place for down to earth Chinese food. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is homey. They have a huge selection of authentic Chinese dishes as well as daily specials. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. Like most Chinese restaurants, you pay for rice per person and they bring you as much as you want! Overall this is a great place to take your family or anyone who's looking for a casual, yet splendid dining experience with delicious food!
(5)David J.
This is another hole-in-the wall place in the heart of Industrial Kalihi. You would never think much of this place passing by especially being next to a shady looking "Korean" bar next door. I come here quite often being that it's right down the street from my work. Typical Chinese restaurant with similar menu styles. They have Special lunch menu for every day of the week. My favorite is Tuesdays with the Chicken with Oyster Sauce on Cake Noodle. They have good portions for a very reasonable price between $5 and $8. The ladies that work the front are always nice and friendly. Inside looks just like the outside. But, the place is fairly clean and manageable. Again, pretty decent place and never has disappointed me. Not the best Chinese, but good when you needs lots of food fast! Don't ask me how they make their food so fast! I don't wanna know!
(3)Jaslyn V.
This is the bf & i's go to for "cheap but good chinese food" spot. Hole in the wall, parking, good. our usual: fried rice shrimp ala canton or walnut shrimp chicken with oyster sauce salt & pepper pork chop steam fish w/ ginger & onion everytime we're there, food is always awesome!
(4)O O.
Yes, this place is quite the dump but they have one dish worthy of 5 stars. It's their salt/pepper squid. Big delectable, thick triangles of immaculately white squid! Lightly coated with a sprinkling of flour, it is the crispiest, most heavenly, has a bite but isn't chewy, dish you will ever hope to eat. Eat it there. Sorry, if you take out, the portion will have mysteriously shrunken and won't last the trip home anyway because it'll be greasy and soggy before you get there. Don't for one second think the dish translates into a divine salt/pepper pork chop. It is 50% lard in the form of liquified pork fat that gushes into your sorry pie hole the instant you bite into it.

I would not come to this restaurant if it was my choice but my family wanted to come here in remembrance of my aunt who passed away 5 years ago. This is the second time that I've been here and my goodness they work like turtles. It took them over 30 minutes to fill my glass with water. The glasses are so small I felt like I was a 5 year old given a cup of water. It wasn't even busy while we were there so I don't understand why they were being slow pokes. The food is meh I don't really care for it. I've had better tasting Chinese food elsewhere.
(1)Shantel V.
I haven't physically been here, because everytime i've eaten here its' because someone ordered take out. So, with that being said.. I can't tell you much about the service, the cleanliness or parking, and really nothing about the food either... the only think i ever eat from here is the War Wonton Min. They give about 6 pieces of wontons and the LOAD of vegetables, which i love! It's your typical wonton min, nothing to fancy about it, sometimes i have to add shoyu and sometimes not... but it's just about when im craving a wonton min when im in town, i HAVE to get it from here. it simply satisfies that craving.

We were having an early dinner with gramps and Kikuya wasn't open yet, so we decided to try Au's. The restaurant seemed clean, and the food was good. Pretty typical, nothing extraordinary, but nothing to complain about either. For a typical Chinese restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised with the friendly service.
(3)Aunty L.
Poor customer service. The food is really awful! Portions are small. Gotta be Chinese to be served even if you were there first.
(1)Berna R.
Located in the heart of Kalihi..My new favorite chinese restaurant, prices are reasonable. Love orange chicken, tofu with eggplant, Fish with ginger sauce, beef broccolli, Definitely we will go back again.
(4)John N.
This restaurant looks like another health code violation. The tremendous amount of MSG and cheap cooking oil makes this a horrendous place to eat. If you like beef, wait until you try what they are dishing out. It's what I call "bubble gum beef" that you can chew and chew and it never breaks down. I can only hope that I get amnesia and forget that I ever went to Au's Garden.
