Everything we had was delicious and very reasonable on the price. Highly recommend this place if you want a fresh lunch and some good treats afterwards.

Food is soooooo tasty. The staff is hip but friendly and helpful. Their panini sandwiches are excellent and most of their ingredients are farmed locally. Definitely love this spot.
(5)Sheila D.
It's the only bakeshop/cafe in Hilo selling the macarons. A bit pricey but u get exactly the macaron fix that you wanted! :)
(4)Jessi M.
Very good local food. Yumm
(5)Ashley C.
Everything on and off their menu are the best in town. For breakfast, you can get a sandwich and a cup of coffee for $6. For lunch, you can order their salad or sandwich for $8-10. I've tried almost everything on their menu, and they have been very consistent with the quality of their ingredients and their service. My favorites have been their creme brûlée cupcakes and their chicken herb roasted sandwich. Look out for holiday specials as well. Their bakery is very dangerous. Highly addicting. I use to purchase birthday cakes from local super markets. Since the first time I've tried their cakes, I've only purchased Short N' Sweet cakes for all occasions. Although it's pricey, the quality of the cakes are incomparable to other bakeries in town. If you're someone who doesn't enjoy sweet cakes, Short N' Sweet cakes are definitely for you. You can also customize the decoration of the cakes. Their decorators are very talented. Some down falls of the bakery would be its limited parking lot. On busy days, it can take a long time for you to purchase anything. The quality of the sandwich bread can also vary, but I haven't had any bad experiences with them. Look forward to addicting sweets and delicious sandwiches. You can even call to order your meal. Although it's more expensive than other bakeries in town, it's worth the price.

We just had a Short n Sweet cake at our wedding and it was perfect! We were coming from out of state and they were so helpful. We sent an image of what we wanted and the flavors and they really delivered! It looked amazing and tasted good too.
(5)Irene K.
Short and Sweet bakery is a nice place to grab some delicious Paninis and a sweet treat. I've tried this place a couple times and it's pretty good each time. I like to order the herb roasted chicken panini. It's very flavorful and filling, at least for me. Each sandwich comes with a side of a pickle and the service is pretty fast. My only complaint is that each sandwich is around $10 which is kind of expensive for just a sandwich and pickle. I've also had a few of their dessert treats such as the Lilikoi cheesecake and their macrons, both are pretty good. The café is nice and clean and offers outside seating. I'd like to go back and try their breakfast items and other food on the menu as well.
(4)Nat W.
Their desserts are awesome! I had a cup cake and something else I can't remember, and they were both great. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich and he seemed to like it too. I do think the price is bit too expensive and the service could be better. Nonetheless, Short n Sweet bakery is a great place to get breakfast and satisfy your crave for delicious sweets!
(4)Simatai W.
I love coming here for breakfast now, they have good selections and they now serve local coffee from Hilo Coffee Mill which is so much better! Their Lilikoi marshmallows are da bomb!
(4)Carrie C.
The food here is fabulous. The bread is divine. It is so soft and well made. Everything they make tastes fresh and looks picture perfect. We often go for lunch and, of course, have to split a delcious confection from the case, which are all unique, and gorgeous. I almost hate to ruin the look by eating the deserts but they are too good not to eat.
(5)Michael M.
We were almost done with our vacation and needed something sweet before we went to the airport. Enter the bakery. The Good: - Lots of sweet choices - Everything we ordered turned out ot be good. We got something chocolate and some lilikoi bars. Everything tasted great. - You also have brunch choices and sandwiches. We didn't order these so no comment. The Not So Good: - 8 car parking, and that is assuming no large truck is making deliveries at the time. - Small outside seating area along with some inside seating - Price Bottom Line: I would come here again. Partly because what we did have was good, partly because we didn't try everything so it deserves another chance. Prices drop it down a star.
(4)Justin S.
Killer Lilikoi cheesecake and tasty panini-style sandwiches. Traded bites of other sandwiches and desserts with my friends. Everything tasted great! I would go for lunch again in a heartbeat next time I'm in Hilo. Highly recommended!
(5)Lei T.
We were in Hilo just for the day and didn't want Starbucks so we found this place as we drove around Hilo town. The pastries looked fabulous but we already had breakfast so we didn't try anything. Lots of fun things though, like home made Oreos and flavored house-made marshmallows! There's also a fabulous breakfast special for about $6. Breads are made three times a week, and all kinds of sweet treats. We will definitely stop in for food the next time we're in town.

I came here for the Sunday brunch and ordered the Eggs Benedict. About that, a poached egg is supposed to be runny in the middle. Mine were completely solid. The Benedict was $10.95 and came with a small amount of potatoes and a slice of melon. I thought it was a little over priced for what I got, even if the eggs had been properly poached. The rest of the brunch menu is pretty limited. If you're looking for brunch, I'd say avoid this place. The reason I'm giving it three stars instead of two is because their bakery items look delicious an they also have a lunch menu that includes sandwiches, paninis, and salads. I'd be willing to give it a shot again, but brunch isn't their thing. Also, they need to dust and clean a bit. There was a spider in her web perfectly strung up between the chain pulls on one of the ceiling fans.
(3)Ched C.
All I can say is yum. Great breakfast sandwich to get the day started! Staff was amazing. I highly recommend!
(5)Andrew T.
3 stars A-OK. Can't really go to 4 stars "I'm a fan." Plus-- they were open 'til 4:30 the day before Thanksgiving, had a couple of display cases with a nice assortment of yummy looking pastries and cookies Minus-- the variety of items my friend bought were not liked by everyone. Some said they were great, others, "not so much." So it was not a home run. I personally tried the chocolate chip cookie and the chocolate chip cookie dough truffle. What can go wrong with chocolate chip cookie dough, right? I don't know, sadly I did not like either the truffle or the cookie.
(3)Raechel W.
Great lilokoi bars! Cupcakes were OK, probably would pass on them next time. Brothers said the red velvet creme brulee cupcake was ono though! Would go back. :)
(4)Hoku J.
amazing sweets! we love the hilo bar but of course bought homemade Oreos, Lilikoi bars and cupcakes too!
(5)Detra M.
Oh my goodness! This bakery has the sweetbread. We brought home the raisin cinnamon macadamia nut sweet bread. I wish I would have bought more. This is a keeper and I hope I can order online.
(5)Elina K.
The waitress was super friendly and patient with us. We had the lemon bar: tasted like they used fresh lemon! Vanilla creme brûlée was good. Their salad is like any salad. Their breakfast sandwich was good but nothing mind blowing. Guava lemonade was different and good if you are a lemonade fan. Overall experience was good but nothing stands out
(4)Dean I.
Again, short n sweet hits the spot! We came here for a late lunch, tried something new. I had the breakfast bowl with ham and jack cheese with a guava lemonade. Gail had the classic sandwich with a passion iced tea. We got some pastries to go too. I've tried different menu items, and its always a winner. Highly recommended for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Also, if you're looking for some awesome pastry choices that are tasty, this is the place. Great service here too!

Came to Hilo for the weekend from Kona. Have been checking out Yelp and TripAdvisor to find new places to eat. Got to Hilo around 9:30am so decided to stop here first. Bad first place to stop after a 2 hour drive (via Saddle Rd-which means no restrooms). We get here and see there are no public restrooms. After ordering I ask where the nearest restroom could be found, and the employee tells me to go outside and read the sign on the window........ok, a simple answer would suffice, but I continue back outside to read the sign. The sign says because their bathroom is not ADA compliant, nobody can use it. The nearest bathroom is across the street at a park. Crossing the street to the park, bathrooms were found, including a handful of homeless people, including one before me deciding to shower via the sink. Sounds nasty, but it wasn't too bad. Just wish Short & Sweet could be a little more sweet to it's customers, and get ADA compliant so they can offer a restroom on the premises. Kinda silly for an establishment that serves food to people to tell them to use a park bathroom. Aside from that, back to the food- We decided to share a Greek salad, and try some of their desserts. The wife wanted lilikoi cheesecake, and I decided to ask the employee what was popular here. She told me the Kohala crunch and the Hilo bar. She then tells me her favorite is the chocolate truffle cookie. So I decide to try the Hilo bar and a chocolate truffle cookie. When she puts it all together and brings my plate, instead of a Hilo Bar, there is a Kohala crunch in its place. I'm not too worried about it though, as I was willing to try it, so didn't bother to complain about it. Lilikoi cheesecake- very good cheesecake. Not too dense, and not too rich. Very nice consistency, and the lilikoi was delicious. Tastes just like it does when we pull it from the tree and extract the juice. Kohala crunch- very delicious. Great combination of the hard Mac nut brittle and the super soft chocolate ganache on top. Really good, but at 5 dollars a piece, I think I will try the Hilo bar next time. In a nutshell, the Kohala crunch bar is about $3.00 good, but not $5 good. Decadent chocolate truffle cookie- delicious. Looks and feels a little hard on the outside, but when you take a bite, you get the truffle softness. Would definitely eat this again. All in all, satisfied but not overly impressed with the first stop in Hilo. The reviews seem to be a little better than I think this place is, but a lot of places are like this. In the end, I would come back again- maybe after I have tried a few other places first. This 3 day trip will consist mostly of new places I want to discover, almost solely from fellow Yelpers. Next stop- Yen's Cafe, for some Vietnamese food.
(3)Zoey P.
I stopped in for Sunday brunch and my first impression is that it was a really cute little bakery. I had the lox and bagel, and it looked very carefully prepared, the service was prompt and pleasant, and the bagel was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside; it was probably the best bagel I had on the island! It seems like the perfect place to brunch on Sunday. I can't wait to try all their other delicious baked things!
(5)Ryan B.
On the hunt for a bagel, being from jersey my pregnant wife wanted one. Was here 3 years ago for molastadas(sp?) and they were just so so. Today was no exception, the bagel was just so so. Had it toasted with butter, had a little bitter hint, narrowed it down to the unsalted butter. Had only plain bagels to choose from and was 2 dollars, won't be back for the bagels for sure but maybe something else...

Just stopped by here to appease a sweet craving after a savory lunch. With a bounty of unique desserts like nutella mouse cake, lilikoi bar, deep dish oreo and chocolate cookie pie, how could one ever choose?! I opted for the simpler options: chocolate macaron, coconut macaron and a chocolate chip cookie. Do not let the simplicity fool you, each of these morsels were PACKED WITH FLAVOR. Macarons are a trending dessert, but rarely do you find one with that perfect mix of light sweetness, airy dough, and not to much chew- this was it. Both flavors I picked were spot on- especially the coconut. Chocolate chip cookie also hit the spot. Everything is just sweet enough to satisfy the palate, without leaving you feeling yucky. Definitely stop by this locally-owned breakfast, lunch and dessert spot! Support local, buy local, leave happy!
(5)Agave B.
Disappointed in the old, dried out, spring, salted caramel and chantilly cupcakes. I am convinced they were a few days old, but OMG please sample the products before selling them. Disgusted! However, the lilikoi and dulce de Leche bars were great. Unfortunately, the trust in their products have been broken. Still looking for a good cup of espresso in Hilo...! No luck here.
(2)Marin J.
Hilio is an interesting mix of old living right next to new. Often the lines between the two are blurred. This is true for the food, lovely Hawai'ian people and the buildings where they live and work. So it shouldn't have surprised me that this gem is hidden about a block or two from the main drag, and if it weren't for the good folks at Yelp, I would have missed it on this trip. I have visited pre-yelp and found myself wanting for something other than Micky D's. Well, the food was good, the bakery case full of fabulous things which presented well and tasted even better. Staff were friendly and seemed interested in what they were doing. I will keep this place bookmarked for the future!
(5)Carolyn R.
We found this place by accident on the way to the airport to return home. One of the few places open on a Sunday. It rocks!! The food here is fresh and delicious!! I wanted something tasty but not too decadent so I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon and cheddar on whole wheat focaccia ($7.95). It was perfection - exactly what I wanted. My boyfriend ordered the breakfast bowl: oven roasted potatoes topped with scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon ($6.95). He added tomato and avocado. Said it was awesome. For dessert he had crème brûlée ($4.50) - the best he ever had. Most ingredients are locally sourced. In addition to meals, they offer a wide array of homemade pastries. The cafe itself is modest in appearance but the food was very special. Highly recommend.
(4)Shattered T.
Great breakfast panini and latte for breakfast! The pastries are decadent and delicious!!
(4)Tracy K.
Love love Short n Sweet. My go to bakery! Best delights and I'm so glad we have a bakery like them in Hilo. The cheesecake is amazing. The creme brûlée is .
(5)Kelly T.
Great service and good food. I got a breakfast bowl. Sandwiches and salads with lots of baked goods. Nice place.
(5)Victoria G.
its an ok place to get a pastry or breakfast. not super clean and very simpli. seating area is ok. sandwiches are good size to share.
(3)James P.
Great place for a morning sweet or a lunch salad. This is more the kind of place my wife likes - but there are some tasty things here for me too! They do some good (fresh) sandwiches & salads and too many tasty baked treats to name (I always try something different and am never disappointed).
(4)Brian B.
Liliquoi bars are da kine grind.
(4)Camden B.
Ahh this place is so cute I love this place! It's a great place for a bite to eat and they have many desserts! They also do wedding cakes too. This place is delicious and I love that they make homemade marshmallows!
(5)Anthony P.
We got a range of sweets and I wish I had gotten more. The macaroons looked better than they tasted, but that is a macaroon. The shortbreads and cakes were out of this world. They had food food too, but really, I can only eat so much.
(5)Shauna G.
This place was surprisingly good! We came here a few times for Sunday brunch. We ordered the eggs Benedict and salmon cream cheese bagel. Both were delicious! My son enjoyed the grilled cheese sandwich. As for the desserts, we enjoyed the lilikoi bar, and my children and I are addicted to the lemon clouds!
(4)Eve T.
Short and Sweet is good for their cakes and baked goods, but one day I decided to go for the eggs Benedict for Sunday brunch. It was the worst breakfast that was solely ingredients bought straight from costco. I could have made the exact same thing as home for a lot less than $10. I would stick to their paninis.
(2)Napualokelani K.
I wish I had more time to explore this bakery & cafe. I was at Jimmy's next door when my girlfriends went into Short n Sweet. I tried the lilikoi bar and a dulce de leche bar (I believe that's what it's called) and they were both really delicious. The lilikoi bar was a bit overpowering, but tasty nonetheless. I also like their outdoor seating area. It's shaded and quiet & I can see folks hanging out just to chat after eating or even doing some work. Check it out!
(4)Mark W.
Fantastic lunch! Our two sandwiches (roasted veggies and herb toasted chicken breast) were awesome. The coffee and desserts (German chocolate brownie, Creme brûlée and banana Creme pie) were great too. We will definitely come back to the jewel of a cafe and bakery! Thanks!
(5)Mai F.
My favorite place for awesome BLTA sandwiches! Service is fast and friendly and they have so many yummy desserts! Try the crime brûlée! Mmmm... They're originally from Kohala (my hometown) so it's like a little piece of "home" :)
(5)Lisa C.
Ate here again today (1st time in a month) & their lox bagel is now $9!! It's good, but honestly, it's not that good! They also charged me an extra $1 because I requested pesto in my breakfast sandwich instead of mayo/mustard, so the breakfast sandwich was also $9... It used to be no charge for substituting mayo/mustard for pesto. This place is good, but it's gotten way too pricey!!! Definitely not worth $9 for a breakfast sandwich. Especially because their portions are very small. They just lost a repeat customer. Btw, dont order their eggs Benedict unless you have the appetite of a child. It's baby small for $12!
(2)Caitlin O.
For Sunday morning brunch I ordered the quiche and coffee. Coffee was very good. Quiche was served with a slice of passion fruit and a small green salad. All of it was delicious. I arrived at 8:05 and was informed the quiche wouldn't be ready for 20 minutes, so if you're in a hurry I wouldn't recommend ordering food. The desserts are all prepared in a display case and look beautiful, though I didn't try any.
(5)Heidi L.
We went here for breakfast this morning. It is such a cute place. There is outdoor and indoor seating which is nice. It was so warm already that their lemonade was the perfect drink for the morning. I had the roasted vegetable panini, which I devoured! My brother had the breakfast bowl. It would be nice if there were more vegetarian/vegan options, but I made do. I would definitely come back for that roasted vegetable panini!
(4)Kim C.
My DH and I were in Hilo at the beginning of April and met Maria, the owner of Short n Sweet. What a gem this place is. EVERYTHING we tried was fresh and delicious. The marshmallows melt in your mouth and the croissants are light and flaky. The sandwiches on fresh made foccacia are fantastic and use local produce. The prices are very reasonable. A must stop when you are in Hilo.
(5)Tricia M.
stopped by on a day trip for work, and my tummy was happy on the long drive to kona! the young lady who helped me was cute and friendly, just docking a star for the high prices of some items (small square of baklava was $2.75, yikes!). here's what i tried: - strawberry lemon cloud: what i came for - it's so pretty :D basically tastes exactly what it sounds like, a delightfully light confection. - red velvet creme brûlée cupcake: red velvet cupcake with a core of creme that they brûlée after you order it. it was such a nice combo i didn't even notice it was missing frosting (usually my favorite part)! comes in a coffee flavor as well. - lilikoi bar: again, what you'd expect. there's also a chocolate flavor (don't recall seeing the dulce de leche one i saw in yelp pics). - sampled a coffee dusted marshmallow: i'm not a coffee drinker but the caffeine and sugar sure woke me up! recommended if you want a "short and sweet" breakfast or snack while in hilo!
(4)Amanda F.
Tried the breakfast sandwich with ham and cheddar cheese, and the quiche for breakfast - the homemade Oreo, lilikoi bar and kohala crunch bar for desert. Kohala crunch bar is surprisingly not too sweet - more like dark chocolate. Very tasty. Homemade Oreo tastes seriously like an Oreo - impressive. Lilikoi bar is sweet and tart as expected and very delicious. My favorite for food was the breakfast sandwich - add mayo! Also, one of the few places open on a Sunday! :)
(5)A P.
food and coffee here are delicious. we stopped here before our helicopter tour for breakfast and loved it. really cute little shop with tasty and fresh dishes including freshly made bagels! they are accommodating to dietary restrictions and the presentation is charming. definitely recommend if you're in hilo!
(5)Phaedon S.
Coming to the Big Island from San Francisco is generally a major culinary disappointment. We tried all the places in the Kona region recommended by our innkeeper, and they were all terrible. Imagine our surprise when the best food on the island turned up in Hilo! The barbecued pork sandwich rivals anything you'd find at the Ferry Building farmers' market; the salad was perfectly dressed and fresh; and the desserts fantastic. This bakery would be one of the highlights in returning to Hawaii.
(5)Tanya S.
Excellent fresh salads and hearty sandwiches with delicious in-house breads and great treats for any sweet tooth. We enjoyed lunch, dessert and coffee (can eat inside or out with nice cafe tables). Highly recommend the mixed green salad, bbq pork, and light-as-air banana roulade. Ashley was very cheerful as she helped us with our meal and to-go options, while offering suggestions for local activities. Great all around!
(5)Chad Y.
If you are in Hilo and need a place for lunch, be sure to check out Short N Sweet Bakery & Cafe. It is truly a great place to grab a meal or some dessert. Set in downtown Hilo, it almost appears to be an oasis in the madness. The sandwiches are fantastic. The bread is a perfect texture and consistency, full of the flavors that you expect. It absorbs some of the condiments which just develop another layer of flavor. The classic was a meld of flavors with a robust cappicola and salami complemented with a great olive tappenade which was just the nice balance of flavor. The super club was just what you would expect with its basic concepts that just add to the texture of the bread. Service was good with the cashier knowing the menu well, however nothing truly outstanding that makes me go wow! Definitely coming back here on my next trip to Hilo and definitely going to try some of their desserts!
(4)Jeremy B.
I stopped in for some treats. I got a Kohala crunch bar, flour less chocolate cake and a chant illy cupcake. They were all very good with the cake and crunch bar tied for first. Very good.
(5)Russell H.
Yummy breakfast sandwich (on homemade bagel), and a Lilikoi Bar that was phenomenal. Big thumbs up to this bakery/cafe--I just wish they had longer hours!
(4)Acasia H.
Sandwiches were pretty good. We came at around 1 for a late lunch and I ended up getting the B.L.A.T. (Bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato). I could barely taste the avocado since there was so much grey poupon on my sandwich. I didnt like that the mustard was all that I could taste. Also, I didnt think that the panini bread was very amazing or the sandwich filling for ~$10. I will probably come back to try their desserts though!
(3)Robin W.
This bakery is the bomb! I enjoyed the quiche (broccoli, breakfast sausage, cheese, & egg), which came with a side salad of fresh greens. I also devoured a few of their desserts. The pineapple bread pudding was smooth and just the right amount of sweetness. The creme brulee was much sweeter, and caramelized with a hand torch. I packed away a couple of cookies to eat later. The handmade oreo was 2 dark chocolate cookies held together by fresh cream....I bought it based on its looks. The wheat-free macademia nut oatmeal cookie was delicious too. My companion had the breakfast sandwich...egg, cheese, bacon, and.....dijon mustard? Not expecting that! On a breakfast item? I think the menu should list mustard as an ingredient and the customers should be told it comes with mustard when they order it. I overheard the woman next to us question the mustard when she bit into her breakfast sandwich. Sorry to be so negative...it's just that mustard is a very strong flavor, and when you aren't expecting it to be there, can really disappoint. All in all, this place is great! I will try to go back to this bakery whenever I'm in town. I can't wait to try the rest of their goodies!!!
(5)Audrey N.
I really have no complaints about this place. I got the Lox bagel and it was really good. The bagel is big. It comes already put together: cream cheese, salmon, thinly sliced cucumbers, capers and red onions on top with a slice of papaya on the side. I went with my mom who got the Caesar salad. She liked it because they give a lot of Parmesan cheese. However, we waited for about 15minutes which is crazy for a bagel and salad. It wasn't busy, too so I don't really understand what took so long. Other than the long wait, our food was good.
(4)Jaynie K.
Delicious panini sandwiches on hot toasty bread! I had an amazing ahi sandwich packed with perfectly cooked seasoned ahi, juicy tomatoes, and crisp fresh greens. I put that away QUICK! Also had a salted caramel cupcake that was just right, in sweetness and size. Fluffy cake topped with a light creamy frosting topped with a bit of sea salt... such a beautiful balance!
(5)Sharon L.
Best little bakery I've found in Hilo by far. Everything on their menu is delicious and the staff is so friendly! Favorites have to be their herb chicken sandwich and grilled eggplant sandwich.
(5)Sonny K.
I suppose this bakery is absolutely stunning if you are just browsing for desserts. The pastries and sandwiches are impressive and original. Its kind of a walk in and try it kind of place which is fine but if you are looking for a pie, need a dozen of something or are looking for a certain item you may leave empty handed. The pastries are nothing short of original. Ive against my better judgement succumbed to temptations and have eaten pastry after pastry just to try it. They are delicious even to me as a person who is not much of a sweet eater. The problem i have with their pastries are they often do not have even half a dozen of a certain item for sale at a time. Ive gone in on several occasions said "hey let me try that there" liked it, asked for a dozen and been told "oh we only have 2 left" There selection of pies and cakes is rather poor if they even have them. I went in to get a pie for a dinner i was attending the only pie they had was missing 2 slices. The guy in the front asked me if i still wanted it (duh! no) and was going to charge me 3 dollars and some odd cents for each slice left. They also allegedly make banana bread but I've never even seen it available. The Sandwiches are brilliant. They are very good. Some of the best in Hilo. I would find myself here much more if the price was better. Many of the sandwiches are healthier alternatives to other eat out places. The price I feel is a little high. You can't really compete with supermarket bakeries as far as price goes so I can cut them a little slack here. None the less the price is often to high for my tastes. I don't enjoy sweets that much anyway and I can make a damn good panini myself if I muster up the will to make one. There products are good but not good enough for me to scrimp and sigh over. Their Service is normally ok. Sometimes the people in the front seem less than concerned for you needs like the guy and the pie. Another time and another guy in the front seemed to not know any of the prices he must have been new but he should not have been left alone. I never see the same workers there which means they probably go through lots of workers which is never a good sign to me The location is a bit out of the way because its on a one way road. The parking there is good since its never crowded. There seems to be enough floor space for a place like this. As a side note. I find it odd that so many businesses in Hilo open up in the same place that a similar business failed. It is as if they refuse to see that this is not a good place for a bakery. Both Robert's and Lanky's used to be in this location. They both closed. Robert's straight up failed and Lanky's is pretty damn ghetto in its current location. I think there was another bakery there too but Im not sure.
(3)Leisha A.
I will admit the chicken herb sandwich is good, but not worth the price I paid. The homemade baked manapua was nothing extraordinary. To be frank, i've had better at KTA. Overall, it's okay, but I wouldn't go there again.
(2)Brenda M.
Came here to do some work, they don't have outlets to plug in but hey, food and coffee is excellent! They have their own chocolate for mochas and staff is super sweet! Ill be back!
(5)C. C.
I really want to give this place 3.5 stars as its not that bad, but its also not that spectacular either.I have been here a handful of times and the customer service is always so-so, again not bad, but nothing special. the desserts look ok, I have not tried the famed lilikoi bars or guava chiffon cheesecake, so i really cant say how they are. I have tried the nutella brownie thing, and it was alright. Also tried the key lime pie ( I am a huge fan of pretty much anything keylime ) and was dissappointed that it came out kind of "deflated" if you will, the lime filling was a bit runny and the merengue did not keep its fluff. The Chocolate covered cookie dough is good, although at the 1.75 a piece price point, I am not sure I am going to be racing back for more. I have also ordered the Chicken sandwich, which originally attracted me to this place. that sandwich in particular is refreshing and satisfying. I also visited for their sunday brunch and am a little surprised that they charge more for their Lox bagels on sunday, why im not sure. It was good, but nothing that I couldnt make at home, had I not been too lazy on a sunday. I have also ordered a Chicken caeser to go. for over 10.00 the salad was presented as you would find out of a safeway deli counter, and was not tossed. I had to ask for them to toss it for me. also the chicken tastes like the processed kind you can buy at the grocer and so does the dressing. bummed out about that. All in all, I will stop here now and then, but it will not be must go destination by any means.
(3)Jade T.
Omg! This place makes an Awesome Lilikoi Bar! So Sweet & Tangy! The Shortbread crust just melts in your mouth! Yum! Their Panini Sandwiches are excellent too!
(5)C. K.
My favorite grindz in Hilo. Friendly upbeat customer service. Missed it when it was located in Hawi, but very glad they are in Hilo. We keep coming back trying different items along the way, and I usually get the banana bread. Greek salad is large and the dressings are right on point. Nearby the tennis court and Lincoln Park, so it's a place we work into our family routine when in downtown.

I have looked all over the island for a good bakery and lunch place...this is the best I have found. The staff was helpful and friendly. I tried the Hilo bar, cream brûlée, and another chocolate crunch bar. They were amazing. I also had a Greek salad, which was all fresh and tasted fantastic. This place is a must when visiting Hilo.
(5)Adrienne T.
The guava cake is delicious -- light and fluffy. We came here to eat our first slice of cake after we got married. Didn't disappoint. Would try all of their baked goods if I had time!

Super delicious...

Excellent coffee, pastries and fresh breads. Quaint atmosphere. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a pastry and coffee or light breakfast.

Delicious BLT Avocado Panini. Lilikoi bar was yummmdillyumcious. Guava iced tea was mediocre and not memorable. I spontaneously drove in to grab some lunch before heading to class on a weekday. There was an ample amount of parking and a few diners chilling out on the outside lanai. As soon as I stepped in, a stylish young lady greeted me. Decor has an old Hawaii feel which was breezy and bright. Menu consisted mainly of sandwiches and baked goods. It was my first time and was unsure what to get so I asked the friendly girl (who complimented on my attire that day, so sweet) if the BLT avo was good, she said yes! I was also thirsty but there were no fountain drinks and not a variety of bottled drinks. They had Red Bull, which I thought was odd of a bakery joint like this. But nonetheless, she recommended the guava iced tea. Something to my liking. Anyway, it had gotten pretty busy as a few customers piled in after me. I must admit, I was in a rush and expected to be in and out so I could make it to class on time but she was the only one working the front and had been bombarded with packing a cake. My meal, a BLT avo panini, guava iced tea and lilikoi bar came out to $15.00, kinda pricey but well worth it! Me and my friend devoured the lilikoi bar in class. I will definitely be back. I would not come before my class though, as I was not expecting it to take that long but hey, it was my first time. I am especially looking forward to a Sunday Brunch to have their salmon and bagel where there will be more time to relax and chill.
(4)Erynn T.
Sunday Brunch Quiche is amaaazing. Nuff said! Comes with a large side salad and pineapple. So yummy! Homemade bagels & cream cheese spread are also delectable. Try the sun dried tomato spread, you will not be disappointed!!!
(5)Gino A.
Everything is awesome here! Especially the Greek salad and chicken pesto panini. Their focaccia is awesome too.

I have been CRAVING a panini but since my panini press is still en route from PA, and presumably somewhere in the middle of the Pacific at this time, I went all out with the Classic Panini at Short n Sweet. My husband and I stumbled upon this little shop during one of our morning meanderings and thank you yelpers for recommending. What struck me most was the bread- it was FANTASTIC! The price was similar to that of a Panera Bread but the quality well surpassed anything on the Panera menu. I love love love Short n Sweet Bakery & Cafe and can't wait to continue eating my way through their menu. Next up- breakfast! Oh and the lilikoi lemonade was great- not too sweet and not too tart. Very refreshing! And the girl behind the counter was very friendly. Loving this place!!!
(5)Samdooby R.
Delicious! The paninis, baked manapua, pastries, etc etc. Love their bakery happy hour! Great little cafe! Definitely worth a try!
(4)D Y.
Creative! I enjoyed the pineapple bread pudding, nice texture, not too sweet, and the pineapple was refreshing. Also tried the coconut flavored marshmallows, delicate with a just right coconut taste. Had breakfast in the cafe and loved the Eggs Benedict. Looking forward to returning to Hilo to try other pastries and cafe choices.

This is usually a great place to relax and have a light breakfast. The coffee is good, the baked goods are tasty and fresh, and the service is friendly. I like the free WiFi and the outdoor seating is surprisingly charming, being so close to the parking lot. A good place for gecko watching. :-) The main downside for me is that they have no customer bathrooms, so you have to cross the street to the park (past the homeless and burnouts) and use the public restrooms. The music selections are usually nice, however, one Sunday morning the staff decided to blast 70's disco. That was not the way - uh-huh, uh-huh - we liked it, so we left.
(4)Cynthia H.
Short n Sweet catered a meeting I attended a couple of months ago - the food was good enough that I stopped in the chaos of our trade show to find out where it came from and made a mental note to get there as soon as possible to check it out. Today, I stopped by to pick up lunch and it just happened to be during their new Sunday brunch. They had low-key live music outside and a very tempting brunch menu. I'll have to remember that for a Sunday sometime soon! For today, though, I picked up two of the Barbecued Pork panini sandwiches--by request from someone waiting at home who had looked over the menu online. We were not disappointed! Mahalo Maria and family for taking time to be gracious hosts on my brief visit today. We will be back soon!

Across the street from Kohala Coffee Mill sits the Short n' Sweet Bakery & Cafe - a little unassuming bakery & sandwich place We had just indulged across the street, so were looking for items we could take w/ us & found a Kohala Crunch Bar ( Macadamia Nut toffee covered in Chocolate ganache & dusted w/ Bittersweet Chocolate powder ) Tasted like a Nestle Crunch & not a toffee bar like I had hoped What was completely NOT tasty was the Macadamia Nut Sticky Bun - supposed to be a fresh Sweet Bread w/ this Honey-Mac-Caramel goo but the roll was as dry & hard as the Lava Fields & the goo was only on the top - no seepage & everyone knows there needs to be gooey seepage in order for one to have a yummy sticky bun - threw it out The best reason to come here however, is for their Macadamia Brittle - the most buttery, crunchy little piece of heaven..... come straight for the Brittle & you can totally skip everything else One local lady actually left the store w/out her morning coffee as the girl behind the counter ignored her for too long - she stomped out to her car & just left - eek! We found the place to be okay - Bob Marley playing, cook in the kitchen, dancing & singing to the music - 1 couple had a great-looking Pannini but given the competition across the street, if we were to venture back over to Hawi, we'd probably skip this place

Great little find in Hilo. Short and Sweet is a small cafe style bakery with some of the best desserts and panini sandwiches around. The german brownies are moist and delicious. And the Hilo bars...oh man... can I get a Hallelujah!! The panini sandwiches are moderate size but also delicious and rather filling. I also noticed this place won a 2010 cake award. The inside of this place is clean and very nicely decorated. Overall the place is very charming. Just know that for something this nice, it will cost you. About $9-10 for a sandwich and $3-4 for a dessert. Just don't be expecting Subway or Safeway cookie prices. But definitely try it out if you are in Hilo.
(5)Alessandro V.
the food is not too bad and the ambient is very nice, but the coffee is terrible
(2)Sharon K.
My friends are regulars here and I understand why! Their herb chicken sandwich and passion fruit iced tea are addicting! I heard their quiche is amazing as well, but I wasn't there on Sunday :( so missed out on that. It's a nice bakery with friendly service, I definitely recommend stopping by.
(5)Anya E.
This bakery is located next to Jimmy's Drive-in. We were pleasantly surprised to find it open on Sunday. Yes, you read it correctly. They are open on Sunday! They offer pastries, panini sandwiches, salads and coffee. We tried the lilikoi bar and the mac nut blondie. Both were yummy. Because it was Sunday, i think they had less pastries than usual. We'll have to come back during the week to check out the selection. The cafe was clean with a modern island touch. They have patio seating as well. Service was friendly. I think they make wedding cakes, too.
(4)Amanda Z.
Yum, stopped by here randomly and was delighted by the high quality of desserts and array of options! We tried the chocolate flourless cake, lilikoi bar and banana cream pie. Only critique would be that the lilikoi to crust ratio was too small (add more lilikoi!) - otherwise everything was delicious and fresh! Would love to try all the other desserts and lunch items.
(4)Sara H.
i am IN LOVE with the classic sandwich. i am sitting here drooling just thinking about how to describe it. definitely a must try. in fact, i've been here 2x and haven't tried anything else because i'm afraid the others won't live up to the deliciousness of the classic. it's seriously that good. coffee here is also very tasty and the pastries are to die for. i can't wait to return and eat my way through them all. :)
(5)Jo Ann A.
The roasted veggie panini sandwich is my favorite! Quiet kick back place. Service is consistently good. Yummy desserts in the display case & freshly made breads on the shelf. Special order cakes as well. Owner especially known for her wedding cakes. Check it out!
(4)Ruby D.
Love this place. Cinnamon roll is good. Coffee is great!
(4)Ryan S.
Amazing little place that I would otherwise not have found without directions. Amazing selection of baked goods and coffee drinks. Well worth it. I wish we had something even remotely similar in my neighborhood in honolulu
(5)Baron S.
Stopped in for a quick cookie (chocolate chip) and brownie (Macnut Blondie type) fix. First time into their new Hilo location, I had been to the Hawi shop and had great sandwiches and excellent pastries. No donuts here. They serve the kind of baked goods you want to be seen with.
(5)Tiana A.
Cute little bakery/cafe with seating inside and out. Limited parking in the lot and on the street. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on wheat without the meat. They were cool and replaced it with avocado and tomato. The sandwich was tasty and the portions were generous.
(3)Vin F.
For my money, this is what the Hawaiian food experience is all about. Having driven miles and miles from the congestion of tourist traps in Kona on the far side of the Big Island, I came upon this little place on a tiny street in some little town I'd never heard of, located in the middle of the main street (meaning, somewhere between the other five buildings). But it was a clean, well organized place that looked professional, despite being far out of the way. I ordered one of the specials of the day, an Ahi sandwich, served panini style, with fresh tomatoes. The key, of course, is the freshness of the fish, and this tasted like they had caught it on a line out back and whipped it over their shoulder onto the bread. Fantastic. Fresh tomatoes, and a great sauce as well. I got a cup of coffee and a piece of pineapple bread pudding to go, and a few mile down the road I nearly turned around to go get more of both. Also, the local girl working the counter was very sweet, handing me a tourist book showing some of the good snorkeling spots on that part of the island, and then giving her own personal recommendations. What a nice Island experience.
(4)Nancy W.
Very patient counter service as we bought lots and lots of single servings to add up to a birthday dessert buffet. All good -- but recommend the flourless chocolate cake and the lilikoi cheesecake.
(4)Betty Y.
Our horseback riding guide mentioned this place at the end of the hwy from the ranch, we were all for it! We had been out on the ranch horseback riding for 3-4 hours and didn't really eat in the morning. Its located in a really cute town away from Kona and other major tourist spots. I had the grilled cheese with ham panini and my husband ate the classic with all the different pork meats with cheese on their awesome panini bread. We ate SO FAST! It was really good and we were really hungry. The bread was soft and crunchy at the same time from being toasted in the panini press. I also grabbed a mac nut shortbread cookie for the road. That was delicious too. Cash only - be prepared. Its worth it and very delicious.
(4)Sarah T.
This quiet coffee shop has fairly priced Illy coffee and yummy baked goods (including a few gluten free things). The food is pricier but very well made. A quality coffee spot in Hilo.
(5)Bob D.
Short-n-Sweet Bakery is a quaint little eatery that allows for the weary traveler to order a well prepared sandwich and a cool tropical iced tea. Although the bakery does make delicious pastries, they are all slightly overpriced.
(4)Stephanie S.
Delicious baked goods, but kind of expensive. My mom remembered the bakery when they were in Hawi and made a point to stop by the new location in Hilo. My family got a variety of lilikoi bars, banana cream pie, kahlua crunch bar, and cream roll cake. All were delicious with the right balance of sweet and flavor. We'll probably come back, especially to try the panini.
(4)a t.
Great barbecued pork panini sandwich. Very interesting to have red onion marmalade on it and the panini bread is delicious. The 10% discount offer thru yelp was readily accepted by the owner. We also realized that they offer 50% discounts on desserts after 2:30 pm. Limited menu but would go back for more.
(4)Rosemarie d.
I'll admit, we stopped here because Bamboo was closed and we needed somewhere to grab a bite before heading to Pololu Beach... but I'm definitely glad we stopped in. Got the full chicken ceasar salad which was a big portion. Also got the classic panini which I thought was a tad bit too salty - but my bf loved it. The passion fruit tea was tasty as was the fresh lemonade. We finished up our meal with a mac nut blondie, which was so perfectly moist. Mmmmmmm. I'd definitely stop by again if ever I found myself on the North part of the island.
(4)julie c.
Short and Sweet is an adorable bakery it is very inviting and charming. We had delicious banana cream pie and an amazing americano but we also got a white chocolate brownie and two cookies that were extremely under baked. For what we paid I would have hoped that the baked goods would have been baked enough.
(3)Alexandra S.
We stopped here for breakfast on our only day on the Big Island during our trip to Hawaii. We were the first customers there as our flight got us into Hilo very early. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to us (they opened up a few minutes early as they didn't seem to want to make us wait). We all enjoyed variations of their breakfast panini and left with a box full of treats for the mid-morning sugar cravings on our way up to Volcanos National Park. I have to tell you- the banana roulade didn't even make it into the car as the creamy goodness made me eat it right away! The salted caramel cupcakes, homemade oreo cookies, and coconut bread also deserve rave reviews. Homemade guava iced tea was great, too. This place is a perfect stop to start your day in Hilo!
(4)Andrea A.
Pretty awesome panini!!! I look forward to my next one
(4)Linda B.
Excellent -- let me say that again, EXCELLENT! -- bakery goods. We had the macadamia nut bread and the homemade oreo cookie. The oreo cookie (much bigger, much fresher, much yummier than a real Oreo cookie) was so good we had to go back to get one for the road. The passion tea is very good, too. And the service is very friendly. Hawi is a really tiny town north of Kona on the Big Island. It's certainly worth a stop for souvenirs and a cold drink.
(3)Becca G.
Yum, yum!! The breakfast panini is a huge bang for your buck: awesome bread, generous portion of eggs, cheese, and breakfast meat. My husband and I share one whenever we have time to stop for a bite. They have a nice assortment of baked goods. The place is very clean and open and full of charm.
(5)Somya C.
Stopped here based on other yelp reviews. Great bakery items and loved the cappuccino. the cashier was very helpful and gave some good tips on viewing the lava.
(4)Dustin H.
Cute little place in Hawi. I had the "German Chocolate Brownie" It was tasty. I really wanted a latte or iced americano but all they have here is drip (or for 5 bucks you can get a french press of Kona coffee.) The baked goods looked good and the people were very friendly. We sat out side and people watched. It was a lovely Sunday afternoon.
(3)Kapono N.
Amazing baked goods and paninis. My favorite is the Breakfast Panini and the home made Oreo cookies. Everything I've tried has been simply amazing!
(5)Scruffles M.
So, this place is just a little sandwich/bakery. Only two tiny tables really, and sometimes a third if the weather is nice. Which, even though this is Hawaii, isn't always true. If you haven't been to the Big Island, you'll soon discover that this sits on the wet side of the island and will get showers frequently. But I digress, we had two fantastic sandwiches. One was a BBQ pork sandwich on delightful bread. The other was a salmon sandwich with dill. I preferred the salmon, but that's just my taste. The pork was good as well. Somebody else said that the pizza was good too, which I think they do take out once a week. Also, I'm 98% sure that I'm writing about the right place, but I could be wrong. It's in a little strip center just down the street from bamboo, and next to a liquor/convenience store.
(5)Marisa B.
Hawi was a great town we found while driving to see Pololu beach. We found "short n sweet" when we stopped in hopes to find a lunch spot. WOW this place was a really great find. We had orzo salad, a chicken sandwich and a BBQ pork sandwich - all outstanding - both sandwiches on fresh in house made bread. Would not change anything - if we lived here we'd eat lunch hear everyday! Service was very friendly and we left with two treats - the peanut butter pie and german chocolate brownie - both were outstanding as well.
(5)Mark D.
CLOSED. The family moved to Hilo. Still giving 5 stars because at least five people recommended that I go to this place and kept raving about it - so if you're making the trip to Hilo, check this place out!
(5)Kim C.
(4)Andrew T.
(4)Ashley C.
(4)Oliver S.
(5)Zach D.

(5)Jessi M.
Very good local food. Yumm
(5)Detra M.
Oh my goodness! This bakery has the sweetbread. We brought home the raisin cinnamon macadamia nut sweet bread. I wish I would have bought more. This is a keeper and I hope I can order online.
(5)Hoku J.
amazing sweets! we love the hilo bar but of course bought homemade Oreos, Lilikoi bars and cupcakes too!
(5)Steve T.
Food is soooooo tasty. The staff is hip but friendly and helpful. Their panini sandwiches are excellent and most of their ingredients are farmed locally. Definitely love this spot.
(5)William L.
Everything we had was delicious and very reasonable on the price. Highly recommend this place if you want a fresh lunch and some good treats afterwards.
(5)Sheila D.
It's the only bakeshop/cafe in Hilo selling the macarons. A bit pricey but u get exactly the macaron fix that you wanted! :)
(4)Agave B.
(2)An N.

(5)A P.
food and coffee here are delicious. we stopped here before our helicopter tour for breakfast and loved it. really cute little shop with tasty and fresh dishes including freshly made bagels! they are accommodating to dietary restrictions and the presentation is charming. definitely recommend if you're in hilo!
(5)Lung T.
(4)Nancy R.
Super delicious...
(5)Adrienne T.
The guava cake is delicious -- light and fluffy. We came here to eat our first slice of cake after we got married. Didn't disappoint. Would try all of their baked goods if I had time!
(4)firefly b.

(5)Brittany A.
(5)Amanda Z.
(4)Gino A.
Everything is awesome here! Especially the Greek salad and chicken pesto panini. Their focaccia is awesome too.
(5)Jaynie K.
(5)Sara H.
i am IN LOVE with the classic sandwich. i am sitting here drooling just thinking about how to describe it. definitely a must try. in fact, i've been here 2x and haven't tried anything else because i'm afraid the others won't live up to the deliciousness of the classic. it's seriously that good. coffee here is also very tasty and the pastries are to die for. i can't wait to return and eat my way through them all. :)
(5)Sharon L.
Best little bakery I've found in Hilo by far. Everything on their menu is delicious and the staff is so friendly! Favorites have to be their herb chicken sandwich and grilled eggplant sandwich.
(5)Cynthia H.
(4)Jim I.
(4)Adrienne G.
(3)Alan H.
(5)Ruby D.
Love this place. Cinnamon roll is good. Coffee is great!
(4)Alessandro V.
the food is not too bad and the ambient is very nice, but the coffee is terrible
(5)Ryan S.
(4)Donna N.
Lilikoi cheesecake and the Chocolate truffle cookies - awesome!! I'll try the Hilo and Kohala Crunch bars next time. Friendly smiling staff is so nice!
(5)Nancy W.

Amazing baked goods and paninis. My favorite is the Breakfast Panini and the home made Oreo cookies. Everything I've tried has been simply amazing!

CLOSED. The family moved to Hilo. Still giving 5 stars because at least five people recommended that I go to this place and kept raving about it - so if you're making the trip to Hilo, check this place out!
