This place for plate lunch is utterly wonderful. There are so many options and everything is super tasty. The service is really quick. The servings are very generous. Best Mac salad here in Hilo. Also had bean sprouts and spare ribs. Everything was great in flavor. My new favorite lunch place!

Right next to Hilo Bake Company is Kum Yo's Okazuya. Since I was gonna be running errands all day, figured I stop and check out this okazuya joint. They specialize in Korean food, ala carte style. They got bentos also which is available for $6.00. Tables and chairs are at your convenience but mostly everyone do take out. We got the Spicy Pork and Meat Jun and Korean Chicken and Meat Jun bentos. The spicy pork is okay exactly what I thought it would be. Ko Chu Jang was bold and bright for the pork, not my cup o' tea. Their's were more like on the "whoah" side, haha. The flavor of the Korean chicken was more reminiscent of Sweet Chili sauced chicken, I assume that's how they do their's. The Kim Chee that was included in the bento was on point though. Nice and spicy just the way I like it. All was okay for me. I'd probably come back here and do okazuya style or a la carte and get the Korean style vegetables. Personally I'd stay away from the bentos, but since it was our first time there...who knew. Don't knock it until you try it right?!

Kum Yo's Okazuya has ready made bentos for less than $6, or you can order a plate and choose your own items. I arrived here about 50 minutes prior to closing and I didn't see any bentos that appeased to me, so I got a plate. I had rice, mochiko chicken, kim chee, sea weed, and cucumber. My total came out to just under $8. The male server taking my order was helpful at describing what I was looking at, but felt just a little too pushy, constantly asking me "is that all? Is that all?" I felt rushed, even though there was no one behind me. I would equate the food here to that of Cham Cham's. It is good, but not great. The mochiko chicken was light on the batter and had a more mild taste than I'm used to. The kim chee and cucumber tasted just like Cham Cham's, and the sea weed, I thought, was slightly better. If you are in the area and want convenient Korean food at a reasonable price then Kum Yo's is a safe choice. However, it is not someplace I would go out of my way for.

Sit down section and a cafeteria style deli take out section. We ate at the sit down restaurant and split an order of Kalbi and potato/Mac salad. The Kalbi was a bit on the sweet side but still delicious and enough for both of us. All the Ban Chan were great, especially the egg plant. Potato/Mac was wonderful.

Thanks to yelp for sending me here! A little confusing because you have the option of ordering off the menu or telling them what you want from the mini buffet (where you pay per item, like a Luby's). So unlike a Korean BBQ. We went for the mini buffet and then made the nice ladies behind the counter explain what everything was. Every choice we made was really tasty. Quick and reasonably priced, too.

Nice okazu place, used to be Ryan's. The food here is the usual Korean/local spread, but better quality. The meat jun was really good, so was the long rice. Also, the Kim chee is good, but mild, and the mochiko chicken is good, but light on flavor. The counter people are friendly and happy. Overall, good food and evenly priced. I do miss Ryan's, but kum yo's is a good replacement. Seeing the other reviews and pics, gonna do dine in breakfast or brunch on the next visit!

I can't believe that Kum Yo's only has one review. As this Korean man can attest, this is the best Korean food in Hilo, hands down. You can either order from large variety of hot line ala carte dishes or off the menu, which includes stuff like sondubu chijjae (soft tofu soup) and jjajangmyeon (blackbean sauce noodles), which is very good for Hilo, and way better than Cham Cham. The osobagi (stuffed cucumber kimchi), kkakdugi (radish), and buchu kimchi (chives) is really good. If you order off the menu, they usually give you 4 choices from the cold dish selections (kimchee/tofu/other good stuff). Order to-go or eat in house. I love her fried chicken, which I'm guessing is coated with crush up seasame seeds and flour and marinated in some sort of light shoyu based sauce before frying. I really like her fried rice too. Yummmmy.

Came here for breakfast on the way to the airport. LOVED the fried rice w/bacon and egg (the menu says spam, but they kindly substituted). Came back a second time and ordered the same thing (it's addictive), but I'm looking forward to trying other dishes!

I live 30 miles from Hilo and when I am in town, I always try to time it so I can stop and get a bite... or two ! LOVE the Long Rice and Pork Adobo!!!

I love this place! Friendly staff and food is awesome. Take out or dine in and they have bentos that normally sell out fast. Good prices
