Best Oxtail Soup in Hilo!! I've tried every other restaurant in town, and for the price, you can't go wrong. Very tasty, and best bang for your buck!

Best restaurant that's not a restaurant! We are, for the first time, satisfied on our poke binge. This does NOT rival Da Poke Shack, this BLOWS IT AWAY! Better quality fish, bigger chunks of fish and best price from all the islands (13.99/lb, buy 1 lb get 1 free)!!! The only bad is outside seating with lots of gnats in your face. The Isle's cafe was a great option for the kids while the adults binge happily on poke.

3 stars A-OK, just can't quite go 4 stars "yay I'm a fan. Next time-- I'll take it "to go" and eat along water somewhere. Why? Service, food and prices were all decent. But.... ....1 star for grungy picnic tables that made me super uncomfortable to even touch them much less put my food on them. At a certain point you have to scrub or repaint, you can't just keep wiping them down.

This is a great place for breakfast! We went there 2 out of 3 mornings we were there for breakfast. We would have gone on Sunday too if they were open Sundays. The girls at the counter are so nice and friendly! They have great local breaksfasts and its all priced so reasonably! We tried different omelettes with spam, and bacon. My husband had fried rice one day and my sister and brother ordered a french toast to share one day. All really good food. Tastes good, decently priced... Nothing fancy just good food. Even the customers are so nice and friendly! We see them around town later in the day and they still wave. One was so nice trying to help us at the graveyard. Just friendly people! I almost forgot to mention, you can go next door and buy some poke to add to your plate! So good!

The "Good Morning Breakfast" is perfect! It comes with eggs, your choice of meat, and two banana pancakes! Soooooo delicious! It is a small outdoor cafe that has been around for many, many years. It is located behind Suisan, right in the Bayfront area. The service is fantastic! They are always attentive to their customers, and of course, service with a smile! :) The main reason for our visits here, the banana pancakes! There is not a place around that makes it as well as they do. You must try, our family is hooked! They have everything here from local favorites to just the simplest, grilled cheese sandwhiches. Everyone is sure to enjoy something! :)

Flew first flight out from Honolulu to Hilo &' Stopped here for some breakfast. Girlfriend &' I ordered the fried rice special. Portuguese Sausage Omlette with two generous scoops or fried rice. Everything was great, expect one bite I took had a crunchy egg shell but it's okay lol. Fast &' easy

Got off the plane from Oahu. My cousin brings us here for breakfast. As soon as we got there all the old timers were outside drinking their coffees and talking story. Felt like I was back home. The service was great and the food cost a good amount. I got the fried rice special (fried rice with egg and Portuguese sausage.) came out fast and fresh. It tasted like home cooking.

This place is legit for the price. I love it that they open 5:30am. Can't go wrong. Must try. local kine style grindz. Friendly staff too.

Stopped by to check out Suisan's market and ended up here for lunch (right next door). Husband ordered the special -- poke fried rice, which is exactly what you'd think, the rice is fried up with poke in it. Tonkatsu pork on the side, served also with a scoop of mac salad. Super good, very generous portion! I ordered the ono sandwich with a green salad on the side. Asked to have it fried, and was pleasantly surprised that it was just fried, not battered. The fish was so juicy and fresh, I ended up eating it off the bun and loved it. For only $6.50 this was a bargain and a half, I tell you! Definitely planning to go back to try out some other plates at this super local outdoor spot. Just next door, Suisan's offers poke bowls for a great price, and you can get them with rice OR a salad. Across the street is a lovely park, where you can take your food and eat under banyan trees... All in all, a lovely local experience, friendly service, and really fresh, good food.

While I was on Hilo a co-worker told me to come here. Yep can't go wrong listening to the locals. We came here for breakfast and there was a pretty good selection of breakfast items but I was hungry and had tunnel vision so once I saw the friedrice omelet nothing else on the menu mattered lol. The friedrice omelet came with two good sized scoops of fried rice with an omelet on the side. The omelet had portugese sausage and some other stuff I don't remember because I was so hungry it was just inhaled. The fried rice was very tasty I don't remember what was in it but it was good and so was the omelet. This review could be skewed bc I was hungry but I have no doubt that if I went back when I wasn't starving it would be just as good. If I am in Hilo and crave friedrice I will definetely come back to this place. Oh and prices was reasonable and staff was friendly.

Good local food at very reasonable prices. I usually eat the corned beef hash with eggs and rice. They serve the corned beef hash out of the can, molded into round patties, which is just the way I used to have it at home growing up, the way I like it. I also go to Isles to load up on already wrapped up spam musubi, when I need a quick snack at the park or at the beach nearby. Jan and her staff are super friendly too.

Tried the oxtail soup, and it's delicious! For $8.50, you can't beat it. Much better than Miwa's where you'll pay twice as much. Isle's is a typical local drive-in where you order from a window and sit down to eat at an outdoor picnic table. The aunty serving at the window was very nice, and she said I need to try the fish next time. I'll be back again!

Woah! How is that I missed this place for so many years?? Whenever we are in Hilo (about every other year for the past dozen or so) we stay at the Hilo Hawaiian. The Isle's Cafe is crazy close, less than half a mile walk around the beautiful Queen Liliuokalani Park. As has been noted by other reviews, the prices are amazing (in a very good way). My wife splurged on French Toast. made with Portuguese bread, and I had two scrambled eggs with rice and seared Ahi. For breakfast! NO way. Yes, Way!! It was the best breakfast of the trip. (Alright, breakfasts, we ate there 4 times.) One morning they were out of Ahi so what they suggest? They suggested that I go next door (same building, mind you) to Suisan and buy a piece of Ahi and they would grill it for me. How much better does it get than that! The gal at the front counter advised me that the cook does not sear the Ahi. She never explained why, that apparently is just the way it is. So I asked the order gal to ask the cook to grill it medium rare. Bingo - seared Ahi!!

Being an uber tourists, this was probably one of the only authentic places we got to eat at. It appeared people that actually lived in the area ate hear, and frankly I don't blame them. The spam fried rice was delicious, the staff very friendly, and the price seemed crazy cheap. There's only a few outdoor benches to sit at, but that worked just fine for us. Overall, it was every bit as good as any dish In Honolulu for about a 1/4 of the price.

Best oxtail soup in Hilo (other than homemade)! Not available everyday so make sure to call in and check. I think I went on a Wed...

Beer batted ono was awesome! Poke fried rice was delicious as well. Both plates were $8.50 and very filling. Came with salad (tossed or mac). Near the park, so grab some to go and enjoy the nice view.

Small fast food counter with a dozen outdoor covered seating. We ordered the fried rice plate topped with slices of spam and brown gravy with an egg. We also had the corned beef hash with hash brown topped an egg. The server was very friendly and offered us extra forks for sharing. The food was cooked fresh and quite filling for breakfast. The price was also very reasonable. The Isles Cafe is a short walk from Coconut Island and Lili'uokalani Gardens.
