I was a little apprehensive about the Bamboo Inn after some of the negative reviews. Additionally, the website could use some updating. It looked like a throwback to over a decade ago. Someone definitely needs to smooth out their marketing! That said, after a three night stay there, I truly fell in love. During the panic inducing, albeit stunningly gorgeous, trip on the Hana Highway to the Inn, I could only hope that it was worth the trip. When we arrived, we wondered how to check in because there wasn't a traditional front desk, per se. Our key was in an envelope in a bulletin board. Too easy! The only cell and internet reception was available down near the reception. But, this forced us to enjoy each other's company and disconnect from the daily grind. We stayed in the I'wa Suite, which was two flights up and had an incredible view of the beach and the ocean. What an amazing sight to see each morning! The kitchen does not have a stove, however, there is a fridge, sink, utensils, and a hot plate. We also had some teeny ant visitors in the kitchen area. I meant to recommend a natural repellent: garlic cloves. It works like a charm and does no harm. The tropical flowers placed in the room were beautiful and fresh. And, a nice touch. The multi-headed shower was AMAZING. I wish I could upload the picture I took because I've never seen anything like it. And, the water pressure was perfect. I definitely plan to put one in my house one of these days. The breakfast was really delicious too. Simple and satisfying basket with muffins, croissants, fruit, and jam. Yum! To save some money, we went to the local general store and bought fruit and snacks to have during the day. If you're looking to stay in the lap of luxury, this place isn't for you. But, if you want to get a way and just relax in a corner of Heaven, then it is.

We spent two nights in Hana on our honeymoon, which I highly recommend if taking the Road to Hana. Don't try to rush it in one day. Initially we were a bit apprehensive about Bamboo Inn, unsure whether the value was worth it. I assure you it is! Right along a black rock beach on Hana Bay, this place is great. Sunrises are majestic! If you're looking for a middle-of-the-road price range, superior friendliness by the proprietor, and a clean, well-stocked place to unwind, Bamboo Inn is your place. John serves a nice little pastry breakfast with the best flaky croissants! We stayed in the Hanu suite, which has a fantastic outdoor shower and a deck with a killer view overlooking the most eastern point on Maui. Only minor flaw is that the free WiFi is weak and pretty dodgy from the suite, but, really, you're in Hana, you shouldn't be online much anyway! So it wasn't a big deal for us, but worth nothing, I suppose.

We took a 2 day trip to Hana on our honeymoon and were surprised by the friendly service and accommodations afforded by the Bamboo Inn. It's pricey and our first impression was underwhelming, but it's amazing how grateful you'll be for the place after a night's stay. We brought a bottle of wine with us and watched the sun go down from the beach, which was just outside our door. The hot tub was AWESOME after some adventurous waterfall hunting. All in all, this was our best night's sleep of the entire trip. John fixed us up with an early pastry breakfast and we left happy and energized. You can spend more or less elsewhere, but the Bamboo Inn is worth it.

I liked the Bamboo Inn. The location was great, and the proprieter was nice and friendly. Being right on the water was lovely, and heating the waves crash and rain pound was sweet. Nice lanai and large continental breakfast basket of fruit and Costco croissants and muffins. The place is a bit shabby, and could use some updating though. Cracked molding, rust stains, etc. Not a big deal, except I don't think the price reflected that. I would probably value it more around the $80-$100 per night range, maybe $120 with breakfast.

I stayed at the Bamboo Inn for 2 night on my honeymoon. It was a beautiful place. Very peaceful!! John was an outstanding host. I will stay there again when I go back.

Outstanding host, fantastic location and great views. We spent two nights here and will book this place again when next we're back in Hana. It has unique, rustic charm so if you want 5 start luxury stay at the Travaasa hotel at well over twice the price. But you won't experience Hana the same way as you would staying here. And that's why you made the trip in the first place isn't it?

Nothings cooler than staying in an entire hotel suite made from floor to ceiling bamboo! The main building has three suites, all that have views overlooking the ocean and close access to. Our room was very clean and stocked with a mini kitchen, fridge, table n' chairs, and the best outdoor jetted tub to soak in. The central patio is great for chilling out and having your complimentary breakfast of pastries with jam n' juice. The only two gripes I had with this place were 1. The wifi was only accessible from the outdoor patio. 2. Our shower was outdoors - nice for showering off after a dip in the ocean, but forget about any privacy as it was right by the main stairs and patio area. This is a superb choice to stay in Hana as most other "hotels" there proved to be house shacks.

The Road to Hana is a fantasic trip. The Bamboo Inn makes the trip better. It is a beautiful three suite inn situated on Hana Bay. The ocean beach is great but a little difficult to swim because of the black rocky beach. The rooms are spacious, clean and have everything one needs for a 2-5 night stay. It is the perfect place in Hana.

This place is a little piece of paradise - I happened to come across it while driving and without access to the internet and was just sold by the charming room, the laid back & unassuming owner who lives on site with his exceedingly well behaved dog Minnie. The rate was a bit high for my budget but I'm so glad that I splurged - the "studio" room had a wonderfully comfortable bed, a "private" outdoor shower (which was really great - I love showering outdoors!), a fantastic kitchenette and a gorgeous deck with a sort of "japanese style" hot tub - I couldn't lie down and stretch out but it worked just fine for the 3 hours I sat and read while eating my breakfast. John, the owner, told me that continental breakfast was provided - but since I'm vegan, he said he'd bring me fruit - and around 9, he brought me a basket of papaya slices and a large cup of orange-lilikoi juice which I enjoyed with my (local) avocado toast and decaf in the hot tub while reading, watching the waves and relaxing deeply. I could hear a bit of noise from the upstairs neighbors - there were two people - but the woman was much noisier walker than the man, but it was not excessive, just the normal sounds of people walking around barefoot on hardwood floors. The phone seemed to work though I didn't need it - and the nice flat panel screen was perfect for watching old movie reruns late at night while drinking pineapple champagne. I would highly recommend this place and definitely go here again - big bang for your buck! It's more beautiful than my own home, has a view, a jacuzzi, and I don't have to clean up - unless you live in a single family home that has been featured in Architectural Digest and you have a personal butler and servants, you will likely be just as satisfied as I was with the Bamboo Inn.

There are many MANY cute little places to stay in Hana, assuming you don't want to splurge for the Hotel Hana, however I would highly recommend AGAINST the Bamboo Inn in Hana. The place seems attractive online, and the hot tub on the deck is tempting, however the hot tub is small (although really fun) and the only shower is actually outside. It's just as easy to use the day spa at the Hotel Hana (which we also enjoyed) and the view is better at the Hotel anyway. Now I rarely give a bad review to any place, but here are the top reasons NOT to stay here: (1) There is no one there on site in case you have any problems with the room. (2) The phone doesn't work in the room so pray that you have Verizon which actually gets decent reception throughout Hana. (3) There were people making a lot of noise upstairs at 4 AM even though there were no other guests staying at the "inn" the night we were there. (fortunately we were up anyway) (4) for the money, you can stay at any of the 4 places within 20 feet of the bamboo inn or just enjoy the Hotel Hana which is beautiful and spacious. (5) despite the fact that we were the ONLY guests staying there on a Friday night, the owner showed up ten minutes before checkout (which is 11 am on a Saturday btw) to bang on the door. I've stayed at hostels in Mexico whose proprietors were more polite. Considering that I live on Maui now, and we love to take weekend trips to Hana every other weekend, I don't expect to be staying at the Bamboo Inn ever again and you might want to think twice before you do either.
