I live in Brookhaven and will DRIVE all the way to Woodstock for this BBQ. Best BBQ ive had in GA Ribs are awesome, sauce is more sweet than tangy which I like. Mac n cheese is actually legit ,

A few years ago while watching TV I came across a BBQ competition and Bub-Ba-Q was one of the winners so I immediately needed to try it. The food was really good but over time I frequented it less often due to other amazing BBQ restaurants closer to my house. A few weeks ago we were in the area and decided to go. The service was awful and the food was OK. I am not sure if the food quality has gone downhill or if I just have found better BBQ restaurants. Overall it was OK but I will most likely not return.

Going downhill... The last time I stopped in for take out the chicken was dry and almost tasteless. The side of green beans were tough and dull tasting. Too bad, because I'm not sure what's changed with this place. There are better options nearby

Best BBQ in Woodstock, hands down. The ribs have just enough smoke but not overwhelming, as does the chicken. The Brunswick stew is quite flavorful, and the veggies are fresh. Do yourself a favor while enjoying their delicious food and order you a nice IPA from either Reformation Brewery or Sweetwater.

I'm a fellow smoker on my Weber Smoky Mountain and being new to the area from Ohio we had to try some GA BBQ. Bub-Ba-Q is near our house & we've been twice so far. Love their sweet sauce. Their burnt ends are really good. The portions are huge. You can split and appetizer and a meal and walk out sufficiently stuffed. Not to mention they give you free pork rinds prior to your meal (which are really good by the way). Brought my sister while she was visiting from Ohio and she really liked it. The brisket has been dry both times, but we went in the late evening both nights so could have just been under the heat lamp too long. Wasn't our most favorite but it'll do the trick if we don't want to travel and get a craving (until my WSM comes out of storage).

Fried mac and cheese. That should be all you need to know. For a place that is famous for brisket they can't get it right when I'm there. My wife loves the corn fritters. Pulled pork is amazing chicken is great and the sausage is perfect. Wait staff is great. If they had brisket like heirloom Bbq this place would be putting people out of business.

  • George W.

This is a great BBQ place, average pricing and good service. The brisket is my favorite, especially if you get it on a salad. YUM! The pulled pork is really good, the chicken I have had as well. The okra is perfect most of the time, the corn fritters are really good. Only down fall would be the sauces, not really my choices, the BBQ is good enough thank goodness so I don't need the sauce. The are better sauces out there, but for the money this is very good quality BBQ. near 575 so not hard to get to at.

Yes yes yes yes. Everything I've eaten on this menu has not just been ok...it's been excellent. Smoked chicken wings...Grab mustard and hot and sweet as well! Don't miss out on the Big B sandwich. YUMMY. pulled pork and sauces are great as well. Ribs...all you can eat (along with all you can eat sides) is only 19.99 on Tuesdays. This place ROCKS

Food was awesome! Best wings! But the wait was longer than neccesary. Seemed understaffed for a lunch time rush.

We've tried a few BBQ restaurants in the area, and I can say that Bub-Ba-Q joins the list of places that we will return to. They have lots of awards presented for their BBQ, and you get that great BBQ smell when you walk in (unlike a competitor of theirs across the interstate near Lowe's). We had the $5.99 lunch special (small pork sandwich, side and drink). The pork sandwich wasn't big, but enough for a lunch meal. The flavor of the meat was good, and the different sauces I tried (they have 4 on the table) were good. The fries were good but average, but the onion rings were delicious. A good value for lunch. They have a couple of all you can eat specials on Monday and Tuesday that look tempting.

The BBQ here is pretty good. I got the rack of ribs and boy did it fall off the bones. The house BBQ sauce was my favorite with a hint of spice and sweetness. The brisket was also a great choice nice smoke rings and moist. Beside the long wait time the food was pretty good.

  • Judith J.

I like eating here, but all I ever eat is the pulled pork or ribs because the brisket is a no no. Sometimes the pulled pork it's a bit dry but most of the time it's super good and tender. The ribs are truly fall of the bone and delicious. The sweet tea is really good, the service fast and friendly. A little less sticky/stinky (dirty cloth smell) tables would be good!

  • Emma G.

The ambiance is very chill and casual. Service is very fast. Ordered the brisket with baked chicken, everything tasted excellent. So glad we found a great BBQ place nearby

Food is awesome. They have the chimichonga style tortillas with Brunswick stew on top. Must try. Also try the fried mac n cheese. Only disappointment was no banana pudding!! We asked our server why? He told us because of the price of bananas, lol. Other than that was great as always!!

I was in town for the birth of my beautiful granddaughter, who was born earlier in the day. Wanted to try some Georgia BBQ. Allyson was my "waiter". Waited for about 15 minutes for her to take my order. No luck. The people at the table behind me, who came in after I did, had their order taken right away. Darn, I really wanted to eat here, but I gave up.

The mind numbing suburban strip malls lining Highway 92 in Woodstock offer a slew of fast food choices. But, it also offered Bub-Ba-Q, a locally owned barbeque restaurant which looked promising. I was further intrigued by the owner's story about his entry into the world of professional barbeque competition. It held out the promise of some really good 'cue. The hundreds of awards he'd won, from traditional looking trophies to pig shaped wooden cutting boards, attested to a prolific schedule of competitions. Although I don't know how meaningful it is to win a 4th place trophy from the Dothan Kiwanis Club Tri-State Barbeque Competition. And that seemed to be the gist of most of his awards. The food was fine, albeit pretty average, and failed to live up to the promise of something special. My chopped pork plate was dry and yielded only a couple of bites with any smoky flavor. My sides of cole slaw and Brunswick stew tasted different. There was too much of a tomato ketchup taste to the stew. The four sauces on the table included Vinegar, Mustard and Sweet plus Hot and Spicy. I tried the first three and liked the vinegar sauce best, although none had much subtlety to the flavor. Overall, Bub-Ba-Q is pretty average. It's not going to dethrone your favorite 'cue restaurant, despite all of its awards. But, it is an alternative to fast food.

Disappointed, not as good as used to be. Brisket was ok, but less than they used to serve. Mac'n cheese was runny (erroneously got charged for premium fried Mac'n cheese), mashed potatoes were dry, my kids burger was over cooked and tough. Told the server who didn't offer to do anything. And six dollars for one beer? Really? Reformation is good beer but this isn't Buckhead it's a BBQ place in Woodstock. Had to ask server to correct bill to give us the Thursday discount for brisket even though we had already asked for it.

  • Lara S.

Yummy!!! The best item here is their pulled pork. Make sure to get some of that with their house mustard that they keep on the table - how delicious! The chicken is also perfectly seasoned. Inside, the place is kinda empty-ish with cheap tables and chairs but don't be fooled! It's a tastebud treat not to be missed! As a bonus, our waitress was a total sweetheart and did a great job.

    (5)
  • Bill W.

Brisket was outstanding. Not sure how we have lived a few miles away for years now and never found this place! Will be back soon!

    (5)
  • Howard L.

Definitely some of the best pulled pork and ribs. I took away one star because the brisket was not very good. It was thin cuts of brisket slathered in BBQ sauce. I like mine Texas style. Everything else including the sides were great.

We have been here a few times and had catering from here. This place is very good both service and food quality.

This is honestly the best pork Bbq sandwich that I've ever eaten! I used the mustard sauce which was insanely good! I also got the Brunswick stew which was pretty good, and the burnt ends which were really great!! The service was pleasant and I love the decor and the atmosphere and music! Found my new Bbq spot!!!

Just not a good bbq place, not even close. I know a bunch of people who like it, even some of my competition buddies, but it's just not any good. I want to like it, but can't. I've tried everything on the menu at least once, trying to find something good, to no avail. Last time I was in I got a side of chili. It was inedible, had a few pounds of salt in it. They took it off the bill no problem, but came up with some lame excuse about someone else coming in to fix it. No taste test? Anyway, just not good and won't be back, I'd rather have a mcrib.

Burnt ends were great. Always ask for Megan as she makes the best suggestions and gives great service. Awesome food and awesome atmosphere!

A tad bit overpriced for the portions you get. I had a very wonderful waiter who did everything to make sure the meal was right. I do recommend you try the deep fried mac and cheese. It's really interesting, and I loved it.

Great variety of BBQ, side dishes and solid sauces. I take out of towners here for lunch as I know it is consistent and quality.

Just moved here from KC,MO (the best BBQ in the world). Read good reviews, was very disappointed. It was pretty pricey, the sauce was not very good, and the brisket was dry. I will definitely not go back. I think the only time I'll ever be able to eat BBQ again is when I visit back home. Our waitress was very nice though! In my experience with BBQ, you don't have waitresses or waiters. KC is much different from ATL. HA!

Had dinner here with some friends. Ordered ribs, chicken, pulled pork brisket, chicken, green beans, cole slaw, mac and cheese, Brisket and pork were tender and smokey, and the portions were HUGE! Ribs were delicious. Chicken, mac and cheese and Cole slaw were ok. Green beans and texas toast were very good. Atmosphere was fun, and service was good. They offer 4 bbq sauces on each table: sweet, vinegar, hot &spicy and mustard.I was not a fan of the sweet, but others at the table said it was their favorite. I thought that the hot & spicy tasted just like the vinegar, with more pepper. The mustard was alright. I had to try each one a few times to see which one I liked, and never really could decide if i liked any of them. They were all just ok, and very vinegary. Also had the fried pickle appetizer, which we all agreed was odd. They were spears instead of chips, and the batter was very crunchy and hard. Over all, the food was very good. entrees and appetizer for 4 with 2 beers and one desert was about $70. I would definitely go again.

Great little BBQ place right close to downtown Woodstock. First saw this place on a food show on TV and was intrigued so I stopped by. The ribs are his very good, sometimes better then others but even on his off days they are awesome. Didn't care for the novelty items on the menu, stick with the ribs and smoked meat.

  • Giselle B.

Foodies BEWARE. The food is dreadful. Positive note- the Diet Coke was great. The Mac and cheese was watery; the fries were cold, salad was awful. I came here starving and I'm leaving just the same.

So I watching BBQ PitMasters last week, and I the guest host was the owner of Bub-Ba-Q. Since I never heard of it, decided to look it up. Woodstock is a little too deep for most atl people, but hey why not? Decided to give it a shot since it seems like not much people have. When you walk in, and make the maze-like trek to the host, the first thing you will notice is all the trophies. I'm over here like ok...this guy has to know what he's doing when it comes to bbq. I went there for 2 things (since I looked over the menu at home): ribs and burnt ends. Looking at all these bbq competition shows, they always have burnt ends in their boxes. I don't recall seeing it offered in the spots I've been to in the past. Its and appetizer at this restaurant. When I opened that box of da burnt?? Woo! That aroma punches you square in the nostrils! Lovely little morsels of meat, covered in its own juices. So delicious. I could eat a full plate of them and slap your hand if you reach over to take a piece. Now, the ribs. Very delicious. You can have them made either wet or dry. I got them wet. Nice pull off the bone, great flavor. The one thing I did notice is that all they had was baby back ribs. I saw on the menu that they have fried mac n cheese...that will be conquered on my next visit. The plain mac n cheese was right on point with the other spots. The potato salad wasn't to my liking.. its like big chunks of undercooked potato in a weird sauce. Not my style. People...its worth the trip. I'll return to sample some other goodies

Burnt Tips, Brisket and Ribs were terrific, can see why so many fans here! Brisket was sliced thick, juicy, smoky and blended perfectly with the sauce. Cannot wait to go back for such great dishes again.

My husband craves Bub-Ba-Q! We loved the jalepeno poppers to start and pulled pork plate with corn fritters and brunswick stew is a must!

  • Erich F.

Really 3.5 stars...been here often and had many variations of the Q. Sides are good and the Mac and cheese is particularly tasty. Dry rub ribs have always been a hit and the Brunswick stew is delicious. This would be an easy 4 stars but have gotten severely burnt ribs twice. I still recommend this place and bring out of towners here for some good Georgia Q.

    (3)
  • Michael C.

Go for the pulled pork and not the ribs. The ribs are over-processed and not naturally flavored. My batch tasted like someone injected flavoring into the meat. The pulled pork had the true barbecue flavor you'd pull off the side of the road to get. Tasty, savory and with a choice of four great sauces from which to choose. Too bad the sides aren't homemade.

  • Joe S.

Something weird always happens here. I've gotten fat-laden sandwiches that tasted freezer burnt, tiny little sandwiches that look nearly like Krystal burgers, the fries are always soggy... and last time our waitress rung us up a side of slaw instead of the adder that is offered with the sandwich. When we brought it to her attention she demonstrated her cluelessness about how the menu was written. Guess what - the customer is always right, especially when the customer is right. Learn how to cook. Learn how to serve. Act like you care even if apathy oozes out of your every pore.

  • Craig G.

It's good, but I guess I'm disappointed by all the trophies and awards plastered everywhere. They had me anticipating something excellent and memorable, and all we got was adequate. That went for both the food and the service, and they're riding on their competitions and not their kitchen. It's good enough that I'd revisit, but I've had better and wish they put the same effort into their customers as they do their competitions.

This is some old school Q done right. Dad and I absolutely love the place and we consider ourselves barbeque connoisseurs. Located in the Ingles shopping plaza just diagonal from the Main Street / 92 intersection in Woodstock, the place has doubled in size over the past year thanks to local support from the patrons. The decoration here speaks for itself... trophies and ribbons. Talk about letting your product speak for itself. Everywhere you look are best of and first place for competitions all over the country. Dad and I love the pork and brisket, but find the chicken just ok. Ribs here are amazing and can be served either dry or wet. The Brunswick stew is solid, fried mac and cheese delicious, brisket chili is awesome, and my personal splurge are the corn fritters and collard greens. MMMM, mmmmm, good. It's a no frills local barbeque joint done right. Forget that chain stuff, this is the real deal!

Just went today with my husband for lunch/dinner. Got the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans/fried okra. He got brisket sandwich w/ mac n cheese/fried okra. Buns were soggy, and half of the serving on my sandwich was thick fat. the okra was really good. Brisket was chewy. stuffed jalapenos were soggy. So maybe we just went at a bad time, but i really don't like soggy food... taste was Ok.

Sweet& spicey sauce fantastic wings r really small only 6 to an order. Not worth it for 8 bucks

Had a great experience here! Chopped pork with collard greens and baked beans. Everything was excellent, but I have to say the baked beans were OUTSTANDING! I like that you can try different sauces on the table to mix and match. My only complaint is that it was so hot in the restaurant on a Friday night. We were all sweating by the time we left. Pretty uncomfortable.

    (4)
  • Sam W.

I learned of this place through attending a Wednesday night gamer meetup. I am impressed. The wings are fantastic, especially the mustard wings. The Peanut Butter Pie is to die. And the service, who could forget the service. No matter if you are spending $5 or $50, these ladies treat you like a king. If you're in Woodstock and have a hankering for barbecue, you have your decision made!

We have eaten here a dozen times or so over the past year and half. The food, especially the chicken has always been good and never dry - a long with everything else. Unfortunately, the last few times we have gone into this restaurant, the food has been off. The chicken has been dry, the fries were soggy, the corn on the cob was very small and had a gassy - propane taste to it along with the bread. The service still remains good. For $50 - $60 bucks - there are better places - like Dreamland.

  • Kac L.

My wife and I have eaten here several times. We're from the midwest originally, and grew up near the American Royal, which is host of the BBQ World Series. Kansas City knows BBQ (and steaks). So we're a bit picky and biased. We haven't found southern-style BBQ to meet our standards, and have tried many places with disappointing meals. But not here. Bub-Ba-Q has some really awesome food. Service is always excellent. The decor is, well, a huge trophy case of Bubba's many competition BBQ victories. Trophies for all categories are placed along the walls and shelves. His reputation is well deserved. We've tried the sliders, brisket, fried Mac and cheese, okra, collard greens, ribs, chicken -- you get the idea. All were full of smokey goodness. A time of two the brisket was a tad dry and a bit more chewy than we like. The rubs are unique and very tasty. One thing we really can't get into are the sauces. Not at all to our taste, despite several of them being provided. Mustard, vinegar, yuck. The sweet is not sweet. I order my meats dry rather than wet and don't use any sauce at all. We'll continue going there, that's for sure. Worth stopping in when you get the chance.

Started with burnt ends, yummy. Really enjoyed the ribs. The fried mac & cheese is just evil, delicious but still evil. Great BBQ overall, will be back.

Staff is awesome and so nice (Thanks Marie). Beef brisket was AWESOME! Fried Mac & Cheese ... One word ... YUM!!! This place is a hidden gem. Don't use Google Maps to get here it will take you to the wrong place. Call and get directions. I will definitely return!

I love this place! I am very fortunate to have them within a quarter of a mile from where I work, so, I take full advantage of that. I have had several things from Bub-Ba-Q's menu and I have yet to get something I didn't like. I highly recommend this place!! WONDERFUL!!!! Great friendly service and atmosphere too!

  • Janene H.

Bub-Ba-Q is just OK. Not the best I've had for sure. We ate here on a Saturday evening and the place was dead- not a good sign. I got the rib and chicken platter with sides of slaw and corn fritters. The slaw was good, slightly sweet like I like. The ribs were also good, but after tasting Fatt Matt's ribs, well, they blow away Bub-Ba-Q's ribs. My chicken was very dry. The corn fritters were deep fried, maybe overly fried, and nothing special. They would have been better with a dusting of powdered sugar. I tried the fried mac and cheese as well- again, over fried and just OK. Service was friendly and food came out quick- but like I said we were about the only ones in the place. I think with so many option in Atlanta I'd try somewhere else next time.

This was our first time at Bub-Ba-Q. We made sure to ask the waitress for her recommendations. She didn't hesitate. Ribs & Brisket! She then told us there was an off the menu Ribs & Brisket combo, which is what we went with. Order it dry as they have four sauces on the table. I liked the mustard and my wife went with the sweet. The ribs needed no sauce and we're so tender. The meat had a great smokey flavor and easily came off the bone. The Brisket had a beautiful smoke ring on it and had a great flavor without any sauce. The only reason I put any on it is that it is so hard for me to find mustard based BBQ sauce. I still felt a little guilty doing it. But what is good BBQ if it isn't a guilty pleasure? Bub-Ba-Q is a great barbecue joint. We will definitely make this a regular stop when we come through Woodstock.

For a Friday night at 7:30 in Woodstock, the place was more empty than full. We had a half rack of ribs, baked beans, fried pickles, and an andouille sausage plate with green beans and fries. The best thing we had were the baked beans. Followed by the ribs. The pickles for an appetizer was so so, would have been better if served cut up instead of whole. The ribs were very good but not great. The andouille sausage was okay. I wouldn't return for the sausage or green beans but am willing to return to try something else on the menu.

I feel like I need to write a update. I went back this Sunday. They were busy and the food was 100% better. It was excellent! I don't know if I went the wrong day of the week last time or they made some changes, but I will be returning! Great BBQ!

YES YES YES!!!!! I could eat at Bubba-Q every day! I get the Pork sandwich lunch that comes with a side (get the fried okra) and a drink for only 4.99! I love the Mustard sauce the best! Theres nothing like this Bar-B-Q joint. I have a friend that comes over occasionally from Englad that has to eat here everytime before she goes back. Always prompt and friendly service. I do prefer the Woodstock location over their ellijay location though. Now i'm craving it. Gotta go today for lunch! yummm

We were in search of a place for dinner but didn't really have any ideas. Scout Mob to the rescue!!! I had remembered a friend telling me that Bub-Ba-Q made some great BBQ plus with the ScoutMob going here was a no brainer. The decor is really laid back as a BBQ restaurant should be. There are plenty of tables and lots of space between the tables so you don't feel like you are sitting on top of your neighbor. There are awards covering every inch of wall space it seems. I ordered the pulled pork, fried okra, and baked beans. The pulled pork was good but I actually like the chop pork that my husband got. Same meat just cut differently. I'm no chef but there was something about the chopped that tasted better. The okra was outstanding as were the beans. I tried my husbands mashed potatoes and they were really heavy. I prefer a lighter, airier mashed potato but they were still good. The meat portions are good size but the baked beans portion seemed a little small. The beans were damn good so maybe I just wanted some more. On another note my husband said that the beer he ordered was the coldest that he had ever gotten from a restaurant. Pretty impressive. I see another meal (or two) at Bub-Ba-Q in our future.

We had a late lunch here on a Friday afternoon and it was nothing less than scrumptious. The pulled pork had a great consistency as well as smokiness and the sandwich came with a fair measure of bark. The Andouille sausage sandwich was embellished with onions and peppers and went really well with their spicy sauce. Loved the deep fried mac and cheese. Loved the Brunswick stew. Good fries as well. Sooooo we went back to try the Hog-A-Chong-A which involves pulled pork, Brunswick Stew, and other elements of the awesome universe and, get this, is............Deep Fried!!! This is way better than much of the cue in the area. We had great service from Robert. I love it when a little BBQ place like this provides table service! The menu has a number of other items that we want to try- and try we will! Especially the ribs!!!

  • Nicholas B.

Went to Bub-Ba-Q today. I had the Rib, Chicken, Pork combo plate with baked beans and mac & cheese. The Ribs and baked beans were absolutely great! The pork with the sweet BBQ sauce was pretty good. The chicken, while it was cooked nicely did not have that BBQ taste I was looking for. The mac & cheese could use some help, but mind you I am a mac & cheese snob who loves a lot of cheese in my mac & cheese. I say all of that to say this, I will be going back for another plate!!

  • Tom N.

So after a couple years I went back! I'm glad I did it was better. I really like that there are menus now. I got the ribs and pork plate and though I thought it was overpriced for the amount of food I got, it was tasty. To me the sauces are inedible they have a very strong vinegar base. They are watery and just plain nasty in my opinion. I got everything dry and managed to use a bit of the sweet sauce to eat my pork. The ribs dry also were cooked nicely and had a decent flavor even without sauce. I feel like I could really enjoy the food here if I brought my own sauce... This was still an improvement from my last visit but not enough of one to make me a regular.

Went around 8pm on a friday and clearly the kitchen was already wrapping up for the last hour. Had 'burnt tips' as an app that were hard and old. Had the chimichonga BBQ thing which looked good and was just ok. Brunswick stew was not covering the wrap and was literally maybe 0.5oz. Service was on point but the kitchen threw in the towel 1 hour before closing and was noticeable. Disappointed but may consider another chance.

  • Ronnie E.

Had some burnt ends and fried mac and cheese to start. The burnt ends were a little disappointing, they were drowned in BBQ sauce and didn't have any smoke flavor. The fried mac and cheese was decent but I was ready for the main course. Pork and briskett with some sides that I can't really remember. I enjoy some smokiness flavor in my BBQ and didn't get too much of that in the meat but I did enjoy the portions and the various sauces. I would like to try this place again and see if the meat has some more flavor.

I think I died and went to BBQ heaven. Amazing flavor. This was our first time and definitely won't be our last. Portion size was good. Pork sandwich was so tasty as was Brunswick Stew.

My wife Amy and I met the owners of Bub-Ba-Q when we lived a few house away from them. Bub-Ba-Q is the only Bar-B-Q we eat. They have the best recipes, staff and restaurant. I like the pulled pork and my wife likes the ribs. Writing this make me want to go there right now. Best it town-5 Stars!!

If you're a brisket lover, you've found your home. Nice thick slices with a sweet smoke aroma arrive on your plate that will have your mouth watering before your get 'em across your lips. My test is to take a slice and pull on the ends; if it "accordians" then you're getting close, but if you can pluck it apart with a tug and have a nice bite - you've arrived at where a Georgian knows how to BBQ a Texas cut of meat. The ribs were perfect, with the meat pulling off and leaving the bone clean. Moist, flavorful meat is their expertise. But don't forget the Corn Fritters. They're THE perfect side.

My wife and I ate dinner at this location. Maybe we had higher expectations due to the overwhelming amount of trophies and awards that line the place. While the ribs and pork had good flavor, the chicken was nothing special. The same applies to the sauces. Very watered down. I have to agree with other posters that the owner puts more attention to detail in his competition meat than he does in what his restaurant serves. There are plenty of better BBQ options in the area. Of note: if you are using a coupon, pay close attention to how it is worded. We ordered two entrees and an appetizer. We thought the coupon would be applied to one of the entrees. It was applied to the app. The waiter pointed out the crafty wording of the coupon and explained that it was intentionally done that way. Nice.

I'd heard about this place from one of those BBQ competitions. Walking in you're surrounded by all their many trophies and a smell that's worth a million bucks. We went on a Friday night, and there was a good crowd. We were seated promptly. Combo of pork and ribs were okay. Big portions. Service was good. I can't say I'd drive all the way from Smyrna there just to eat again, there are lots of other places just as good nearby like Heirloom BBQ, which I like better. But, it's pretty good.

Some of the best BBQ in the region. Service is so-so even though on my most recent trip today our server was excellent. I would have given 5 stars but can't since this place just doesn't appear to be all that clean. I still noticed cruddy TP hanging on the bath ceiling in the mens room from a prior visit about 2-3 months ago. My wife informed me the ladies room didn't have any TP. This can be a very bad situation after eating quality BBQ. The ribs are yummylicious though and worth a drive if you live more than 45 minutes away.

I flew all the way from San Francisco to eat here. That should say it all. The menu is a bit more extensive than I'd like for a barbecue place but everything that I've tried over the years is very good. There is a reason they have won all those trophies. Items I'd recommend: the Hog-A-Chong-A, the brisket and the ribs. If you are a back yard barbequer then I also recommend their rubs and sauce. I buy and bring it home with me every time I visit.

Kids like the fried pickles and BBQ quesadilla. Corn fritter bowl is realy tasty, along with the coleslaw. Try both sauces with the pork. Stew is a little watery. Grab a mint when you leave.

Always love coming here when I'm in town but I think they've moved the location. The BBQ is moist and tastes like it just came out of the smokehouse. The sides are really good and they have a very tasty brisket salad.

I'll own up and say I never thought a place in the middle of an old shopping center would ever have me rating them 4 stars. This is one of those places you'd never think to visit unless someone who wears shirts too small for them drug you there one day after working on motorcycles. Thanks to Patrick (guy who wears Baby Gap shirts) I actually enjoyed the heck out of some BBQ for the first time ever in Woodstock. The smell of slowly smoking BBQ fills the air and makes your mouth water from the second you step foot in the door. The interior is large, and decorated from wall to wall with trophies and newspaper clippings of their BBQ victories from coast to coast. The service was great and the owners wife spent time with us explaining the menu and telling us what to expect with each dish. It was exactly what you think of when you think local mom and pop restaurant. I had a pulled pork sandwich with collards and mac n cheese. Everything was great. The mustard sauce made the sandwich really shine. The mac n cheese was OK, but nothing o write home about. The collards were a tad under my grandmothers and thats saying a lot. All in all it's a great place to stop for some mom n pop BBQ in the Woodstock area.

Cool spot! Had a quart of Brunswick Stew, Fried Mac n Cheese and a water for a total of $10.49 (not including the tip)! I was satisfied! The B-Stew is ok but the fried Mac is Great! I could eat them shit's all day on my "cheat" days! I may have to stop by here more often whenever I'm working this area! Service was good, TV's are good and the ambiance is good.

Really good fresh smokey pork today at Bub-Ba-Q. I like to top it with both vinegar and hot sauces. They also have a mustard and a sweet sauce. Work mates had the Hog-A-Chong-A an loved it. Fried dill pickle is a whole pickle. Will have to try that next time. Very friendly service and great prices.

Had a combo plate with ribs, pulled pork and the beef brisket. I really wanted to try the brisket because I had seen a Food Network program featuring this establishment's owner and the judges loved his brisket. I wasn't disappointed with any of the items I tried, the brisket was fabulous, it was tender and had great flavor. I was lucky enough to be able to try the fried macaroni (my friends) and it was awesome, I highly recommend them, you will not be disappointed. The various table side sauces were nice, allowing us to try the various flavors with various meats. The prices could get up there if you are a family of four and everyone likes their 'cue. The food wasn't piping hot, but I guess you can't do "Low & Slow" BBQ to order. Perhaps they can heat up the food a little more and/or don't let it sit under the warmer (if they have one) for too long. Next visit I will try the burnt ends, I understand they are quite good, but seriously, don't miss out on the brisket. I didn't notice the music as being too loud as some others have pointed out, nor was the television.

Meh... Y'all know I love some good que. So naturally I had to have some dead critter on a bun for my birthday. I'd been saying for months that I wanted to try BubBaQ after passing it several times a week for nearly a year. Lucky me, my guy offered to treat me to a lunch sampling of the wares. We ordered the pork sammich, the stew, the burnt ends and a trio of sliders with fried corn. The meat was disappointing to say the least. The sauces were ok but none really stood out. The stew tasted like typical canned stew and looked like up-chuck. The burnt ends were the biggest let down. The description is way off. They should be called chunks of chopped meat drenched in kc masterpiece. bleh.... Vastly underwhelming and disappointing all around. It is places like this that make me question who's handing out BBQ awards.

The burnt ends were amazing, as was the service. The meat was not overly smoked. The fried Mac and cheese were awesome. You have to try it!

Not sure how long they have been open but the only real complaint I had about them was the speed of the service. They seemed a little understaffed for the Sunday rush. The food however was quite good though. The ribs were fall off the bone and the chopped pork was nice and moist. The corn fritters were very good and the mac and cheese was good but needed a little salt and pepper. Since I love me some BBQ every once in a while when I get a hankering for it and this place is local and not a chain I'll give it another try and see if their other meats live up to what I have had so far. All in all I would recommend trying them out!

I've been looking for 3 years for good BBQ in the Atlanta 'burbs. I'd resigned myself to driving ITP when a friend told me to try this place. Award-winning BBQ (literally) and a great selection of sauces and sides. I had the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw, potato salad, and corn fritters. I've found my new favorite BBQ spot!

Excellent BBQ. It's no wonder they win so many awards. My boyfriend loves the Hog A Chonga and gets it every time. The BBQ sandwich is delicious as well as the Mac an cheese. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. It's all delicious.

Used to be my favorite bbq, but going downhill. The pork is great and so is the brisket, but everything else is just ok. I ordered wings once and one of them was maybe the size of a sour patch kid. I think all the sides need more flavor.

I averaged this one up to 4-stars. I'm feeling like about a 3.75 only because of some consistency reasons. I've eaten here several times so that should tell you that's it's pretty darn good. The stuff in the restaurant doesn't match the quality of his Pro stuff (that's where all of the awards some from), but it's much tougher cooking for the masses all day long. The brisket is tender. No easy feat. I gotta figure out how to catch the Que before it winds up in a warmer (here's an idea - how about a fresh Que Now Neon sign, al la Krispy Kreme?)... or maybe I just need to adjust my dinning time.

Had lunch here this week. Service was good, food came quickly. I tried the Slider Trio of brisket, chicken and BBQ pork. Brisket and Pork were very good, the chicken was not great. Overall, it's good food at a reasonable price. I would go again.

A resounding "Meh". Nothing was inexcusable, but there are just much better ways to serve barbecue. First, the pork was pulled (or buffalo chopped more likely) to a singularly stringy consistency. The secret about smoked pork is that once it's pulled or chopped it starts going south in a hurry. That's why most places hand pull to order or add a mop as they chop. This pork had neither quality. Plus the stringy consistency didn't allow for the taste and texture contrast of bark and meat. The brisket was also kinda of blah. No real good bark, and it seemed like it had been kept in an alto sham with no moisture to keep the heat from drying the meat out. I liked that you had the option of wet or dry ribs and that the ribs were actually smoked. But I got an end piece that had been in the smoker too long and there were pieces that were charred. Also when you say dry ribs, it means finished with a dry rub, not just without sauce. Sauces were better than okay, but lacked a real depth and contrast of flavors. The fried Mac and cheese was easy Mac that had been formed into triangles and fried and the collards were okay, spicy but no real bright acidity. Would I come back here? Maybe, but I doubt it would ever definitely crack my destination BBQ joint list.

BBQ 1/2 chicken here is good but not the best in the area. Service was average at the least but definitely friendly. Atmosphere was fitting with trophies (did the REALLY win that many?) all over the walls. They have a few local beers on draft in addition to the norms. Will go back again to try the BBQ pork.

First impression: this place is the quintessential southern BBQ joint. Simplistic decor, a ton of award plaques and trophies for good 'cue, blaring country music and some good 'ole boys (and gals) getting messy with some food. A Livingsocial deal brought us here for dinner last night. They were moderately busy for a random Wednesday night, and it appeared there were only 2 or 3 servers tending to everyone. Our server was polite enough, but I could tell she was seriously stressed. Nevertheless, she took pretty good care of us once she was able to take our order. I was anxious to try their ribs, as I've heard they've won numerous awards for them. I had the ribs and pork combo, which is served with two sides and a piece of grilled Texas toast. You can have your ribs dry or sauced. I always go for dry so I can try all of the sauces. I was relatively happy with everything, and I actually enjoyed their sauces. My favorite was the "sweet" sauce, which surprised me because I usually go for the vinegar sauce. I found their version of sweet to be a nice balance between the vinegar and sweet tastes. I also enjoyed the "Mustard" sauce. For some it's an acquired taste, but I'm a fan. Hubs had the pork and chicken, but thought the chicken was a bit dry. Sides were pretty good. Altogether, we had fries, slaw, mac and cheese and fried okra. I must admit, they have a decent number of sides to pick from, and you'll be pleased if you like more of the southern-style veggie sides with your 'cue. Overall, my first visit falls somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but I round up for the benefit of the doubt. Appears to be a pretty solid place with good BBQ. Good to know it's close by.

  • Casey S.

Very solid BBQ, the sauces are really good & the Mac & cheese bites are the goods. Ribs could be better but the brisket makes up for it. They have bacon wrapped jalapeños with pulled pork stuffed in them, which is pretty much one of the most amazing things ever. It's not my favorite BBQ in Atlanta, but a very solid option.

We tried thsi place for the first time with a coupon from Sweet Jack. We really enjoyed this BBQ restaurant. The portions were great. There was a variety of sauces and the pork was juicy. We will be back. Would loved to try again and different sides. It is located in the old Slopes - boy does it has a different, warmer feel than Slopes. Very welcoming.

We really liked this place and their ribs had a really good flavor to them. The first thing you notice when you arrive at Bub-A-Que are the trophy's, instead of wallpaper the walls of this place are covered with all of the trophies this guy has won and based on the meal I had, I would say that he deserved all of them. I am not the biggest fan of baby back ribs and that's all they had (instead of spare ribs) although the meat had a great flavor to it and just melted right off the bone. You can get the ribs wet or dry, I got mine wet although I think the next time I may get them dry. They have a good selection of sauces, including a Georgia mustard sauce that I have been hearing about but never seen in other BBQ joints before, other than one I just went to in Alexandria, VA of all places,LOL. They also have a sweet sauce, a vinegar based sauce, and a hot sauce, all of which were pretty good too. I had fries and potato salad for my sides. The potato salad was pretty good too. They leave the skins on the potatoes, which is something I personally like.

Ribs... Awesome. Pulled Pork... to die for. Brisket... Melt in your mouth incredibleness! Eaten in and taken it to go! I keep going back. I've been here a few times now. Between J D BBQ and Bub-Ba-Q, Woodstock's become a great little BBQ town!

Good local BBQ joint in Woodstock. Owner and wife are great, and staff is very friendly/helpful. I have been here many times and the food is good every time. Pork is very good as well as the Ribs. Brisket is average, and has been dry the past few times, so I will stick with the Pork or Ribs. I have not had the chicken yet, but he has won many awards for the chicken and my co-workers say it is very good. Atmosphere is great, wall to wall trophies and plaques as he is a well known competition BBQ champion. He has another location the original in Jasper that has no more room for anymore awards, which might be one reason he opened the Woodstock location. Overall a really good place to eat, with some different things on the menu. The pork potato skins are very good, as well as the Hog-A-Changa, which is a BBQ version of a chimichanga. Pork burrito fried and topped with Brunswick stew.

I've eaten in and taken out (thanks to Groupon). Found this to be a solid, if not spectacular que place. Nice people, decent service, good ambiance, and well above average food. You shouldn't be disappointed here.

Good 'cue. That means the pulled pork is tender, balanced in smoke & spice, with the right amount of bark. Stew was not my fav- too much smoke & pepper, wife liked it, but not enough to change her recipe. To-go drinks overpriced for size. If I'm in the area, I'll go back for brisket & ribs to try. Sauces & rubs available to go- suggest bringing your own mason jar.

Really good BBQ!!! The only place better is Dave Poe's BBQ off of Marietta Square. The food was very tasty and the service fast and efficient... My only complaint is the owners daughter (maybe 6 years old) tends to hang around your table and is really bossy... This kinda ruins the relaxed atmosphere... Haha

My wife and I happened on this place after a baseball game in the area. I am usually suspect of a bbq restaurant in a strip mall, but we had heard about this place and there were plenty of cars outside. The first thing you notice is that there are many trophies from bbq contests that the owners have won. We can see why. My wife had the pork plate, came with two sides. Ample portion and very flavorful even without the sauce. There were several sauces on the table, hot and spicy, vinegar based, mustard based, sweet. We like sweet and we can say this one ranked up there with the best. The baked beans were sweet and a hint of cinnamon, yum. I had a rib basket, four bones, nice portion for a rib basket, my experience is usually three bones. Rib basket comes with fries. I also had a cup of brunswick stew, which was better than average, but not the best I have ever had. The waiter we had was courteous and efficient. My iced tea glass and my wife's water glass were always filled. He had good suggestions about what to order based on the mood we were in and the fact that this was our first time there. So, if you are in Woodstock and get in the mood for bbq, then head over to Bub-Ba-Q. You will satisfy your craving for sure.

I could eat BBQ every day. EVERY. DAY. That being said, I really enjoy Bubba's. I go about once a week and get to-go for myself and one or two others in my office. I'm always the hero of the day when I announce that is my destination at lunch. Everything I've had there has been excellent. And no one at the office has ever complained about their dishes, either. I would recommend this place to anyone who wanted to know about a good BBQ place in North Atlanta. My only complaint, though, is they charge for to-go sauces after the one that comes with your meal. 35cents for a 2 ounce portion cup - sometimes it isn't even half full. I have pulled them out of the bag and asked for full ones. I don't mean to sound cheap, but if you have a full plate of pork, at least give me two free ones. OR, if you are going to charge me, make sure it is full. I find this very annoying.

OK Bar B Que we all have favorites, But this place CARES about good QUE! All I'm going to say is "Burnt Ends" get them, love them, and ask for them on a sandwich! (OMG they are good)! Sides are great as well (mac and cheese and the stew) Got to get back here soon!

My husband and I bought a Groupon and tried Bub-Ba-Q on 7/4/11 for the first time. I read a lot of great reviews and learned about all of the awards they have won! They were SUPER busy but our food and service was excellent. Our waitress made sauce suggestions and kept our drinks full (and she probably refilled them four times or more each). We started with the Burnt Ends which rocked! I would love to see these become an entree instead of an appetizer. My husband had the ribs, potato salad and cole slaw and all were great. The ribs were huge and really meaty with a great crust on top. I had the Spuds and Swine (potato skins, cheese and bbq) which was also really good. They have four sauces on the table, mustard based, sweet sauce, vinegar based and a spicy vinegar type sauce. We eat out everyday and were really impressed with Bub-Ba-Q! We will definitely go back!

    (5)
  • Jedidiah G.

Meat was okay but I didn't care for the sides. Brunswick stew had more of a chili flavor and the beans weren't overly impressive. Buddy of mine had the okra which was commericial and mac and cheese was average at best. I reserve opinions on the ribs.

  • Paul W.

The food was OK, but certainly nothing special. Certainly not worth the price, since it was more than other BBQ places just as good or better. They also don't correctly honor coupons and deals that they have offered. I had a $20 SweetJack deal which is supposed to be good for $20 of food and drinks, but they put so many limits on it that they are being dishonest. Yes, the fine print says its not valid on specials, but since when is a combo with a side and a drink a special, or take out for that matter. They had many other things they wouldn't let me do also, all because they seem to randomly get to decide what everyday normal menu items are specials. This is not right and is dishonest since they chose to offer deals like this to get customers in, and then when we've already purchased them they basically force us to pay more than anyone else in the place so that our deal wasn't a deal at all! I will not be back after being treated this way -- I buy deals all the time and have never had this treatment elsewhere, and most of the other places get my repeat business from these deals, but not Bub-ba-Q!

    (3)
  • Geoff G.

Going downhill... The last time I stopped in for take out the chicken was dry and almost tasteless. The side of green beans were tough and dull tasting. Too bad, because I'm not sure what's changed with this place. There are better options nearby

  • Frank B.

    (4)

  • Champ L.

The BBQ here is pretty good. I got the rack of ribs and boy did it fall off the bones. The house BBQ sauce was my favorite with a hint of spice and sweetness. The brisket was also a great choice nice smoke rings and moist. Beside the long wait time the food was pretty good.

    (4)

Definitely some of the best pulled pork and ribs. I took away one star because the brisket was not very good. It was thin cuts of brisket slathered in BBQ sauce. I like mine Texas style. Everything else including the sides were great.

HA!

Foodies BEWARE. The food is dreadful. Positive note- the Diet Coke was great. The Mac and cheese was watery; the fries were cold, salad was awful. I came here starving and I'm leaving just the same.

Burnt Tips, Brisket and Ribs were terrific, can see why so many fans here! Brisket was sliced thick, juicy, smoky and blended perfectly with the sauce. Cannot wait to go back for such great dishes again.

My wife Amy and I met the owners of Bub-Ba-Q when we lived a few house away from them. Bub-Ba-Q is the only Bar-B-Q we eat. They have the best recipes, staff and restaurant. Nice.

  • Mark M.

  • Graydon M.

  • Howard R.

Some of the best BBQ I've ever had. Ribs are the best.

Best ribs and brisket in town!

Haha

Meat was okay but I didn't care for the sides. Brunswick stew had more of a chili flavor and the beans weren't overly impressive. Buddy of mine had the okra which was commericial and mac and cheese was average at best. I reserve opinions on the ribs.
