I cannot believe El Camino is still kickin'. I remember eating here 14+ years ago after being dragged through a nearby Ingles supermarket and Roses department store by my parents. El Camino was always a lot of fun as they prepared the best in extremely generic texmex fare. They were one of the very few restaurants who actually made a Taco Loco actually in the shape of a taco and not a taco salad. They really did many of the normal to expedcted "Mexican" foods well. Everything was served on a hot plate, the guacamole wasnt runny and it was slightly chunky maybe even fresh, and the tortillas always seemed possibly made in house. I think when I first started visiting El Camino with the fam it was an obviously first generation imigrant family business. I recently returned after many years and was shocked the parking lot was as full as it had ever been! I saw the children now adults waiting tables and cooking the orders. It was great and a happy American story.

Great service, and staff will make you whatever you want. Good 'ritas, fajiti chicken nachos, and what my husband calls 'authentic tacos' (steak, pico, cilantro n lime on corn tortillas with sliced avocado). Mainly gets 4stars for staff, because while good, still generic texmex.

The food it really good, it's usually pretty quick service-wise and everything I've had there has been super tasty. The only downfall is that they have ghetto AC units scattered about, and it can get kinda hot - which is lame. Oh, and the margaritas could be a little stronger. I like to taste my booze, not just sour mix.

Don't go for the decor, everything is basic except the food. The service was great and the food was awesome. Chips and Salsa were good. Prices were good.

Ok I don't comment on many places. But this little place doesn't have much appeal for looks but the food was amazing and good service for lunch. We had the fajitas and they rocked!

Why do these restaurants act like they suddenly don't speak Spanish when you point out the dish is not what you ordered and they act like you don't know what the menu describes? Blows their mind I suppose when the white wasp begins talking in their language; suddenly they don't know their native language either!!!! The food is decent but points off for cheating on the food.

HORRIBLE!!! This place is what we call Americanized mexican food. Went there on a friday night with a group of 9 hoping for some good mexican food. Service was horrible. When our food came out our server mixed up all our orders so no one got what we wanted. After the server came out with the correct orders we dug in and no one enjoyed their meal. I ordered the el cocina which was pretty much chicken over rice smothered with cheese. I couldn't even finish a third of my plate before I felt like I had a brick of cheese in my stomach. Asada was burnt, chicken was salty, lengua was chewy as ever. Out of the nine of us who love mexican food, no one was pleased. Only thing good that night was the michelada. Dont go if you're craving authentic mexican food.

Would be zero stars if I could! Came in one evening with my daughter and boyfriend. We were greeted, not warmly, and seated. There was a large table in front of us who was seated and had their drink orders taken. Still no acknowledgment of us. Another couple came in with their child and was seated at the table behind is in the corner had their drink order taken as well. We continued sitting thinking maybe our waitress was o. Break trying to give benefit of doubt. It was so bad that several times they walked by and even acknowledged my daughter (she's 6months) and still nothing. Needless to say we left disgusted. I'm not quick to jump to conclusions but as an interracial couple, it's not the first time we've experienced this. Sad disgusting and pitiful is the only way to describe it. I will continue to tell everyone I know to avoid this place!

We eat here about once a week. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant around! Tuesday and Wednesday they have $1.99 margaritas, can't beat that!

Seems like someone has been stealing recipes and ideas from El Centinela. The food at El Camino has dramatically changed. The food is now similar or identical to El Centinela now. The food here is ok. The service just sucks. Our waiter was very rude and took 20minutes before coming back to place our orders. His excuse was "sorry my girlfriend was mad at me".

I visited El Camino for the first time Friday 01/17/2014 and I was eager to enjoy some good Mexican food. Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the quality of their food because after sitting at the bar for 10 minutes, not one member of the wait staff acknowledged me much less tried to take my order. They failed to get my order, they failed to value a potential customer and they failed at first impressions. Maybe the food is good, but I have no way of knowing...and they're not willing to even take an order why should anyone believe they can fill one to your satisfaction

They have reopened since doing some Major renovations! It is very similar to el centinela including the look of the menu. And its just as good! Food was delicious and looks nice inside. Will definitely eat here again!!! And you dont have to fight traffic and the construction through down town winder!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
