Place was okay, not bad. Craving sushi and Japanese food. Unfortunately, I guess they do not have a fryer because no vegetable tempura or Agadashi. This place is a hibachi style restaurant as well a sushi bar place. Not bad, not great. Probably won't go here again but will look for another Japanese restaurant the next time I'm at Jennings.

I love this place. I am totally addicted to japanese food and this is the place to go for sushi and hibachi in valdosta. i frequent there about once a week.

Valdosta GA. Population 56,000. One notable Japanese Restaurant and that is Mori Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar. Full Hibachi dinner room and a full bar. Restaurant is also part of a strip mall. Sushi and Sashimi are fresh and delicious. The Hibachi is the standard that one will see everywhere in the U.S. however the quality and taste of the food was impressive. The pricing was in mid-range. 2 People with a full flight of drinks and wine along with Sushi& Sashimi for two plus 2 sushi rolls and desserts cost us only $82.00. The service was impeccable. I loved it so much that I went there two nights in a row to have dinner.

Everytime I come to town I eat here. Really good food and the service is always friendly and fast.

My fiancé and I have visited twice with less than great experiences. The food is moderately decent with chewy, undercooked chicken. As far as the service, the staff is impeccable. The chefs, however, were not as delightful. Tonight (9/6) was our anniversary, so we thought we would be a little dressier and spend a little more than usual. I honestly wish we hadn't. The server, after making obnoxious jokes toward my fiancé, decided he would focus much of his "tricks" to tossing rice around hoping one of us at the table would catch it. Now, I am typically a good sport about things and don't mind having fun, but this was all the man did the entire time the rice was cooking. Not only that, but I specifically told him "no" that I did not want any more rice thrown at me, to which he replied with a nice chunk of fried rice plopped into the lap of my dress. It might have been a different story if he had chunked rice at everyone at the table over and over and over again, but he did not. He tossed it once to each woman at the table, but specifically targeted me for the bulk of his own entertainment and I got the joy of leaving the restaurant this evening with rice all in my hair and all over my clothes and my purse. Finally, my fiancé had to hold his hand up in front of me and tell the man over and over again (at least four times) that that was enough before he even put the rice back down. If all of this wasn't enough, I spent most of the evening away from my fiancé as my stomach was less than thrilled with the chicken. We will not be returning.

Ya know, Valdosta does not have a lot of choices in Sushi and as far as sushi goes- this really is probably the better of the other options in terms of sushi. But in the 20 years I've been stopping in here, the service and "attitude" of the sushi chefs.... well, just SUCKS!!! I graduated college here 30 years ago and my daughter lives in town so she and her hubby wanted sushi. So we went here. The Sushi bar is a little room off to the right away from the hibachi tables. So we go in at about 8, there are only about 4-5 tables with people in there- but more tables are covered in dirty dishes and the place was a mess. So we squeeze inbetween some dirty tables and did get approached pretty quick by our waitress. Then it went further down hill. I'm a sashimi guy, fresh raw Tuna is my pick- but went for the rainbow roll and party in your mouth rolls as this was the taste of my kids. I only eat sushi with Shiracha- no Soy- (I'm old, no salt) and my daughter likes the spicy mayo- no soy. So they both ordered soup to start and we ordered a few rolls and very clearly said we need shiracha and spicy mayo. Got our beers, and soup came, no silverware. Looked around, and really only saw dirty tables.... but fear not.... there were some set ups at the bar so rather than wait another few minutes for our waitress to make an appearance, I went and got it from the bar. The sushi comes and I remind our server ( not a waitress now) to get our shiracha as we were tired and wanted to eat and go home. We waited..... waited.... no "server", tried to call her down as she was out singing happy birthday to tables not in the sushi section- and finally went to the sushi chef and asked for some shriacha and spicy mayo. This is after he dodged eye contact for about 15 seconds- then he looks at me and hatefully said- ask your waitress. I said I did- 2-3 times !!! He didn't even look up and continued to look down and I said again- can I get some Shiracha..... nothing.... I was pissed and really wanted to stick a chop stick in his eye!!!!!!! But I'm not a violent guy. So went back to the table and it was at least another 5 min before our waitress had to be flagged down again- and said we need our stuff NOW!!!!! So who did she go to- ? The sushi guy I asked and he gave it to her. What an ASS...!!!! She brought it, we were able to eat now and we did, got the bill and left. So why write a book in an area that is stuck in a time warp? Just because!!! I would die for a great, dynamic, energetic fresh sushi bar in Valdosta but this is VALDOSTA!!! This was my home for 4 years, I love Valdosta but sometimes when you are here you just live with it. For Visitors coming in , I don't know what to say. Be prepared to enter the twighlight zone and drink a lot and it seems better. But for 20 years, I've got the same crappy service, and most of all- what I call ATTITUDE from the sushi chef. A GOOD sushi chef engages with the customer, points out what is fresh, asked what you like, upsells you to try as many things as possible, and knows his stuff. I'm not sure they guys even speak English and we know they're not Japanese ..... ( most are Indonesian in GA) but last night- they just flat out pissed me off. When you have to use Publix as the second best option- at least you can get friendly service for pre made- albeit on site- sushi. Not the same. Oh yeah, and PEPSI!!! Really !!! Are they owned by Taco bell??? This is GA!!!! Ok, I'm done. Will I come back? Maybe once again in the next 5 years if my kiddos want sushi.

We were in from out of town tonight from Atlanta and were very disappointed with Mori. The hibachi portion is unbelievably small and not worth $20. We asked for the manager and it took the server 10 minutes to grab him. He got to the table and said we waited too long to tell him about the portion size when it took the server that long to get him-we weren't about to let our food get cold on top of it. The server then told us we waited to long to tell him about our food when we told him right away-he was trying to defend himself. He said he'd give us a discount and it was $3 off. We barely received any veggies and chicken. Sorry but when I think of hibachi we get a plate full of food and good service-we just didn't receive that here.

Habichi was great. Services was great. Had a birthday party of 5 there and they were super nice to let me bring a cake, brought it out after dinner and sang. It was a great time. Would recommend!!!!

I was nervous because of the mixed reviews on this place, but when I asked the two tattooed locals that i saw In the parking lot if I wanted to eat here, they said "you want sushi? Then hell yeah you want to eat there!" So eat here I did, and I'll do it again. This place does not look pretty on the outside, but it's actually really nice once you get in the door. I sat down at the sushi bar for dinner. My sushi bar neighbor, Daniel, suggested the Party in your Mouth roll - at first I thought he was just being pervvy, haha, until I saw it on the specials board. It was DELICIOUS. I also got the California roll, and it was really big! I'll be back here next time I'm in town - hopefully Daniel will too! Haha. ;)

I love sushi!! Unfortunately I live in Valdosta and we don't have a NOBU. My choices that I trust include Mori and Publix. Yep I just typed that!! Mori is a family owned local business that has become my home town sushi fix. They have a good selection of rolls and I will eat certain things -tuna, white tuna, red snapper, yellowtail- sashimi here. Kids can eat sushi or hibachi at the sushi bar. Their hibachi is really good!! We usually only eat in the sushi bar though. It can get very crowded, everyone knows it's the best in town, so go a little earlier on the weekends bc sushi bar is not huge and will get backed up.

This town is divided in two when it comes to sushi. You either like Mori or you like Ichiban. It is rare to find someone who likes both. I prefer Ichiban but I have a very open culinary mind. I have been to Mori four times now because I want to give them a fair chance since half my friends swear by it. The habacchi is great, the sushi truly lacks. Every piece of sushi I have had here has either been stale(crunch roll) or just plain not as fresh and tasty as I prefer. Each of the four times I have eaten here I have had the same experience. Also, I big note from my visits...I have ordered the goyoza each visit and only relieved it once! It is an appetizer and for some reason they never bring it out! I don't know if I have just gotten very unlucky with a forgetful staff or if it is just hard to notice when checking the box on the back of their short sushi menu. All-in-all I have not had good experiences here and I prefer Ichiban.

Driving down 75 from Atlanta, you see all kinds of Japanese restaurants billboards. We picked Mori since it was right off the highway. Your typical Janpanese hibachi style restaurant. It is opened by Korean. Greats elections of suhi and sahimi. Place is full by the time we left at around 630ish. The cook was funny and professional and the food tastes great!

I feel compelled to give this review just in case this happens to anyone else in the future. First off, I have to say that the food was good not the best I've had, but good. Unfortunately a communication breakdown occurred. The waiter was friendly and was probably a college student. The waiter came to my table to take my order and i pointed to the hibachi steak dinner and ordered it medium. When the order came out I was surprised that there were no grilled veggies, but I ate it anyways. Afterwards, I noticed that the meat wasn't seasoned like most hibachi steaks. Well after I cleaned off my plate and received my check I realized that the order was a ribeye steak dinner and cost close to $20! I was mortified but also embarrassed. I just paid my bill and vowed to never return. Future diners, be very clear about what you want to order otherwise an expensive mix-up can happen!

This is probably one of the best restaurants in Valdosta. It's an excellent Japanese Steakhouse and it's not expensive like most great Japanese Steakhouses are. I went on a date here for my birthday in 2007. Our bill with the tip was right around $50. Not bad, not bad at all! Our server was also outstanding. He did so many cool tricks, I'm going to post pictures. He made me a birthday cake and lit it at the top, a heart and many other things all out of food. If you're in Valdosta, you definitely have to visit here. Great food, excellent service and inexpensive. What more could you ask for?

How this place gets more then 2 stars is beyond me. Dark and musty decor, wait staff seemed inconvenienced to be there and food was sub-par for the price. I ordered the filet and shrimp, my friend ordered chicken, as well as some sushi. The sushi tasted overly fishy and just thrown on the plate it seemed. The actual hibachi was a disappointment. The couple next to us ordered steak and lobster and I was surprised to see the "chef" put all the steak, shrimp, lobster and chicken on the grill at the same time. Yes it is hibachi BUT, the chicken should've been placed to the side to begin cooking on it's own as it takes the longest time to grill. Steaks cooked to temp get put on at variable times, ie: my medium filet does not take nearly the same amount time as his well done strip - two different cuts at two different temps getting cooked for the same amount of time...sure why not right? After watching that while also watching him overly salt and soy sauce everything in sight, I sat back and shrugged as he doused the shrimp and lobster in lemon immediately after putting them on the grill -- if you don't know, when cooking shell fish, the lemon is added at the end to season, if you add it at the start you end up with rubbery meat. All in all, not an enjoyable dinner to say the least.

Mori's is Valdosta's best Japanese steakhouse! Their grill menu is simple but does not disappoint with its selection of sumptuous steaks, fresh seafood and juicy chicken breasts. The cooks/entertainers are friendly and put on the most fabulous dinner show. If you're a Mori's regular like myself, you'll enjoy sitting in the sushi area where guests can dine at tables for up to 8 with only their party. Mori's is an excellent choice for a date night or girls night out! They offer take-out which I fully take advantage of! Mori's is one of my personal top 10 favorite restaurants of all time. Love it!

What did I expect in Valdosta ? Certainly not the great and imaginative sushi rolls, fresh and delicious. The staff was courteous as could be and the bill wasn't outrageous. My boyfriend had the dinner from the grill, shrimp and scallops with fried rice very good. We live in south Florida and dine out frequently, this was more than we expected.
(5)Brett C.
Best sushi in town period. I have been everywhere else in town and no one even compares.

Preston is a highly skilled chef who has lightning fast hands. The food was delicious as usual. Preston's excellent culinary skills with the knife and great showmanship all added up to the perfect meal to end the week-end on. Thanks!

I will not disgrace this page with everything that I have seen happen at this place, I do not hold judgment to the food or the staff because of the owner or anyone. So if you want to know the real inside story I got from watching and asking around then visit my Facebook note page and read that. If you are only interested in the food...CONGRATS and here is my take on the tasty food offered at Mori's Being that I eat here about twice a month I can tell you in my opinion the food all in all it is good. The shrimp are plump and succulent, the scallops are grilled to perfection and juicy inside, the vegetables are tender and flavored with the right amount of spices. Even the steak and chicken come out right every time! No matter who you get as a cook you will always be satisfied with the food. Steak, prepared the way you want and with the most flavorful seasoning I have ever tasted. the chicken (or ally cat as Preston calls it) is succulent and very juicy even with being prepared on a grill. It is seasoned with a wonderful Teriyaki sauce at that adds tot eh natural flavor that the chicken has anyways. The grilling process is all around a great experience and if you get the lobster as well, its fresh, very plump and when adorned with the seafood sauce has a great creamy texture right off the grill. The rice, fried and steamed, is very tight, sticks together great for chopsticks and is also a great accompaniment to the grilled food. Even the vegetables complement the grill wonderfully. My children eat all their vegetables there! The Sushi is a bit of a harder experience as I have not eaten all of it but what i did eat, The Godzilla Roll and The Party In Your Mouth Roll, it is prepared with such respect for the fish that it is an incredible feast for the eyes first and foremost. Now the taste is always a bit off from the last time simply because the ingredients might get a slight change, more cream cheese one time and more avocado the next, but all in all the taste is never far off from the last time you'd taste it and it is a great experience. If you have never had Sushi before and are a bit afraid to try uncooked fish, just remember that if you eat cold shrimp with cocktail sauce you are eating raw fish. Try the Godzilla Roll, it was my first ever sushi taste and it changed my experience ever since. The Sushi chefs are experienced and I got a tip from one person, they wanted to be left unnamed, that even when one of the chefs gets a bit grumpy easy he makes a mean roll and is their best Sushi chef they have. All in all to me it is a place worth checking out in Valdosta Ga and like I said, every persons experience is their own and to me this has been my experience every time we go there. You must decide on your own how you would rate this place but to me, it is my go to place for Sushi and Japanese grilled food. Number one in my book! I went here for dinner on 5/11/2013 and was pleased with the overall experience. I had the vegetable roll combination platter and some warm house sake. I was wish a family with two small children and the server was very kind and accommodating to them. She even brought out a small bowl of steamed sushi. I think the highlight of this experience was the server. She was so attentive and sweet! The decor was a litte heavy and when I went outside, I was surprised to see the sun again. Some windows would make the dining experience more pleasant.

It's a very Americanized Japanese steakhouse where few people sit at the sushi bar while a line grows for hibachi. Typical Americans frightened by the thought of raw fish gracing their presence, but such is South Georgia. And yet this was my college hang out, the place I'd go to get a pile of sushi and have a fun evening out with my friends (at one time I even walked here from campus - it was worth every step!). There was something funny about knowing that my waitress was the same girl I had to draw in figure drawing class, or trying that first - and last - bite of amaebi, the infamous jelly shrimp. The house dressing is fabulous, and I wish there was a way to sneak into the kitchen and steal a vat of the stuff. It's GOOD. And yet it can't compare to more traditional places in Atlanta. Then again, this is Valdosta, miles and miles away. Can we see why I am torn? Mori fills in a gap in Valdosta for hip college kids and older couples set in their ways to feel chic in a "foreign" restaurant, and for that, it gets three stars. Plus that house dressing... well worth every star I'm giving here!
(3)Michael L.
Great food and chefs! Awesome sushi too!

What a joke. Ate at the sushi bar. Sashimi was small and price was high. No interaction at all. Edemame came after the sushi and no salt on it then All they put on it was table salt. It is the middle of Ga. Don't expect much. Ate 40.00$ still needed burger king.

Ply-wood screens, Georgia Peaches in kimonos, habahi grills and uneatible sushi - everything one should have expected from a Southern Georgia sushi restaurant highly recommended by locals.

I know I only gave Mori's three stars, but it really is the best sushi joint Valdosta has to offer. Personally, I've had some really fantastic sushi in larger, more metropolitan areas, but for a smaller, Southern town where the AYCE buffet is reigning king, this isn't at all bad. The good: relatively good sushi chefs who seem to care about presentation and taste. Their mackerel nigiri is a prime example. At another sushi places in Valdosta, they just slap some raw mackerel on a piece of rice and call it a day, but mackerel has a very strong flavor that is sometimes overpowering. At Mori's they place it on rice and then complement the flavor by adding some sesame oil and a bit of raw onion on top. I can't tell you how those little additions amplify the taste...it's just wonderful. Really tones down the fishiness and brings out the sweetness. Their habachi chefs are some of the best around as well. Lots of humor and good at engaging the audience. I know some either skip portions of the "show" or go through it without uttering a word, but the ones I've always been lucky to get were exceptional. The bad: The last time I was there, I sat at the sushi bar (alone...none of my friends like raw fish) and ordered around 40.00 of sushi. Seems like a lot, but at 6-8 dollars for two pieces, it really wasn't a large amount. What I looked forward to, in addition to the fish, was the nice salad and soup they offer with their meals. Only this time...nada, nothing, no soup and salad offered. That's a first b/c they always gave both when dining in, but apparently they've cut this out, perhaps inflation is the cause...who knows...every other sushi place I've ever eaten at has always given complimentary miso soup and salad, but not here...not even with a 50 dollar bill (including tips for the server and chef). The ugly: A couple of the less popular items were definitely not as fresh as they should be. I know that it can be expensive for a restaurant to carry something that isn't eaten that often, but those of us who are fans are made to suffer, all the while still paying full price as though they were still quality items. Examples are ikura (salmon eggs) and uni (sea urchin roe). The ikura were visibly shrivled and without that distinctive "pop" that makes them so good, and fun, to eat. I recently had some good ikura in Atlanta, which felt like little pop rocks going off in your mouth as you ate them...the ones at Mori's just mushed. The uni was the worst though. One of the more expensive pieces of sushi on their menu, but not worth even a fourth of what I paid. Uni should be slightly firm (yet creamy) and have a distinctive roe shape. These were more like vana, a grade of uni that is made up of broken and liquified pieces. Very cheap compared to the good stuff, and usually not used in sushi...maybe pasta or to mix with a bowl of rice, where consistency and eye appeal doesn't matter. You could tell it was previously frozen as well b/c the it tasted watered down...almost no uni flavor. The culprit, most likely, was ice that formed and which turned into water, mixing with the uni when it was defrosted. All in all, not the best in the country or even the state, but for Valdosta, it's the best option (until a better one comes long) and does have some good food. You just have to stick with the more popular items that are restocked more frequently and have the best chances of being fresh.

Haha. ;)

Ply-wood screens, Georgia Peaches in kimonos, habahi grills and uneatible sushi - everything one should have expected from a Southern Georgia sushi restaurant highly recommended by locals.

Thanks!

What a joke. Ate at the sushi bar. Sashimi was small and price was high. No interaction at all. Edemame came after the sushi and no salt on it then All they put on it was table salt. It is the middle of Ga. Don't expect much. Ate 40.00$ still needed burger king.
