I've experienced Mellow Mushroom pizzas as a catered-for-work thing (and I'd enjoyed the variety they'd offered), but this is the first time I'm actually dining in the restaurant proper. One of my friends had a hankering for pizza, so I'd suggested this location -- knowing its quality and vegetarian-friendliness -- and made my way over. It's more nondescript than some of the other stand-alone buildings I've known of in Buckhead, Grayson, and Briarcliff (my friend even said he'd not known this place existed), but in TARDIS-like fashion, it does very much look bigger on the inside. Once inside, the host greeted me, and invited me to find the table my friend had taken. When there, probably *the friendliest server ever* attended us. She knows multitasking and customer service, and she alone pushes the star rating to 5. I'd ended up getting the house calzone, which was absolutely delicious and filling, and while it was semi-disappointing they didn't have hot beverages available tonight, the lemonade I'd ordered did go well with it and I have no complaints. Needed my vitamin C anyway! My friend ordered a 10-inch pizza, the smallest of the three sizes they make to order, along with a house salad (which our server graciously brought onions and mozzarella cheese to add on after-the-fact). She seriously knows her stuff too, down to the consistency of the salad dressings! If you want a family-friendly, reasonably quiet, dinner outing with a friend, a Sunday evening at this location is *definitely* the way to go.

We had a great experience here during our visit. The pizza was amazing. I have been to this chain before, but never this location, and they really produced a good pie. As good as the food was, the service was even better. Our server was very attentive, never crowding the table but looking for us to need him from across the room. I certainly appreciated his style. When our son spilled his soda, the server came right over delivering napkins, assisting in the clean up, and offering to wipe the table down to remove any sticky residue. If I lived closer to this location, I would eat here often.

We love mellow mushroom, and hadn't been to one since moving to this area. This location left a lot to be desired. Our waiter was bad, and I mean jaw droppingly terrible. Not only was he forgetful and aloof, but several other people, looking all official in polo shirts, walked throughout the restaurant asking people if "everything is ok," and then walked away empty handed leaving dirty dishes on the tables. We were brought warm, flat beer with a ton of head (and we just met?) and no apologies. I also ordered soup which took as long to come out as the pizza (isn't soup typically pre-prepared?). All of this was even forgivable, because it was clear our waiter was busy. However, where was this waiters help? This leads me to believe the problem isn't just one person, but a systemic issue at this location. The pizza was great, which is why we go to mellow mushroom; but the service was astoundingly awful. We will seek out a different location in the future. I am a patient person and was even a server myself for close to 15 years, so I know how it goes, but the service on display at this location was just unacceptable.

Yummy place to have a good fun meal. I always love the Greek Salad. Holy Shiitake Pizza is delicious

Our food was good, but our service was really, really, slow. I mean, slow. I'm not sure whose fault that was. Our server took our order in good time. I'm presuming he placed the order correctly. Beverages came out in reasonable time. Our server even checked up on us from time to time. And then he said "Your pizza is coming out of the oven. It should be here in one minute and thirty seconds." Fifteen minutes later, we had our pizza. Another ten minutes later, I had the sandwich I had ordered at the same time. (I actually had to go check on the thing, it arrived 5 min after my inquiry.) Then we asked for boxes. And our server said, "Boxes, got it." And then he came back to check on us: "I'll bring you a box right away." And then a few more minutes later: "Do y'all need your drinks to go? I'll bring you your boxes, next." Finally, with our boxes filled, paying the bill seemed to go painlessly enough. But what was up with all the delays? Sheesh.

First time going here. The server wasn't knowledgeable about the liquor selection, but she knew the menu. It was clean, food was good, fresh and hot, would definitely go back! By the way.. the calzones are AMAZING! !

I've been to good Mellow Mushrooms locations (i.e. off Monroe near Piedmont Park)... and this one is NOT included. These people don't understand how to make good pizza ... it's not OK to just throw a whole bunch of crap on it and call it a day. The toppings should be placed strategically. I shouldn't bite into a 3-layered piece of uncooked bacon. Was also peeved that they screwed up our order. Won't be ordering from here again.

Oh mellow mushroom...every now and again you just want some pizza. :) this location is pretty big in size compared to other locations. If you are looking for a relaxed environment to have a beer and pizza you will enjoy yourself. Don't go expecting a 5 star experience! I also recommend the gf pizza I personally like the crust better.

Trivia night Tuesday's is really fun! Cliff the bartender is awesome and local Tucker guy. Lots of local tucker folks that have been coming for years! Cold beer, full bar and good pizza!

I enjoy the food at this location, but the service is hit or miss. I have gone and had great waiter service and I have gone and had no service. Yesterday it was a miss. But the manager, Joe, made up for it when I told him about the lack of service. He sent over his best waitress and took care of the meal. I'm looking forward to eating there again. Next time I am expecting to have a hit rather than a miss. Pizzas, calzones, etc tastes great!

This review is for one thing and one thing only....calzones! I usually prefer small independently owned restaurants for Italian food. They just seem to use better ingredients. This may be the exception. Mellow Mushroom makes what I consider to be the best calzones in town. They are spectacular. Keep up the great work good people of Mellow Mushroom!

I am traveling and have been to the Mellow in my home town (Cary,NC), Raleigh, Durham, Kennesaw, Ga, Alpharetta, Ga, Greensboro, NC etc. this location has by far the worst service I have ever seen. The bartender asks for my id (okay, maybe the local PO PO enforce here) no biggie. I order a beer and he takes 10 minutes to bring it to me. I then order a pizza and it takes 30 minutes. Of course it's wrong. I'd avoid this place. The food was good as usual but the service is a huge turn-off.

I must say that this is my favorite Mellow Mushroom - we've been coming here for consistent pies since they were at their old location (sort of across the street from where they are now). This newer location has both greater seating capacity and a much cleaner, contemporary look than the old (most won't remember the old location). The staff here is super friendly and efficient and I've eaten here dozens of times and have never had a bad pie or service. My favorite pies are the Magical Mystery Tour and the Kosmic Karma - I think it says a lot that my faves are both veggie pies as I'm a die-hard omnivore. Both of these have very distinctive flavors - we usually pair them with a Greek or Spinach salad - the latter has whole strips of bacon making it an out-of-this-world experience. This is still a chain (though it did start in Atlanta) so, while more consistent than previously, there's a bit of that local charm that's now missing. Of course the trade-off is that now you pretty much get the same product at any location - the negative is that some of the items are pre-packaged (like the salad dressings) and I'm not confident in the quality of the ingredients (we tend to like whole foods and organics when we can get them - we especially shy away from high-fructose corn syrup). I really also like the bar area in this location - they feature daily beer specials so belly up and enjoy something different, like a local or micro-brew. Ambiance is heavy on Van Gogh's "Starry Night" but I like how each location is tied together thematically. Oh and if you want to try a bread treat, go for the pretzels - fresh baked with parmesan cheese, served with a side of marinara - yum!

We have been ver disappointed twice with this location. The food is good but the customer service stinks. I called in an order for pick and when we went to get it, the restaurant couldn't find even a record of the call. We went last night were seated by spacey hostess and then ignored for 20 minutes. Three servers in the section we were in walked by us and never spoke. We walked out. I won't go back. I can spend my money where it will be appreciated.

We go frequently - great pizza although service is sometimes a tad slow (not always, but . . .). Wish they offered more domestic beer on tap.

When our family was on vacation and looking for pizza we stopped in here and couldn't have been more pleased. The style is more of an old style pizza place. The pizza was a bit more expensive than your standard takeout, but the flavors were fantastic. I had the cheesesteak sandwich, my husband had the pizza and the kids had french bread pizzas. We all really loved our meals. The service was good, nothing special but nothing bad either. It was a great stop!

This is the closest Mellow Mushroom to us so we'll hit this spot up every now and again. For a MM, it's just OK.. The place is a little small and the restaurant is arranged funny with a small bar on your right and some bench seating on your left. The whole space feels really cramped and does not flow well, for me anyway. To go with the wonky layout, the parking lot is skewed and confusing as hell. Add a touch of 'busy' into that mix and finding a parking spot can be a chore. The food is excellent, always is. The only differences that can really be made between this location and the others have to be the restaurant itself and the people. The staff is great here, they really do a wonderful job. They do seem a little slow here but I'm willing to be that is the kitchen and not the wait-staff. We usually are here during peak hours so I'm sure that has something to do with it but sometimes it feels like there is one person handling 10 tables and we had to wait quite a bit for drink refills. So, all in all not bad but just average for MM.

My coworker and I ordered the red skinned potato pizza and we both felt like it was good but not great. If you had doubled the amount of potatoes on the pizza then it would have been amazing. We just thought that by ordering a potato pizza we would get more than one small slice of potato on each piece. That said the menu had some other pizzas that sounded amazing as well so I would love to go back and try some of the other ones.

First off, I absolutely love the fare at Mellow Mushroom. The pizza dough, and crust especially. The pretzel twists. The notion that one salad dressing is enough. And this location has some of the best decor of any of them. That said, the service here can be iffy. They get a little cranky when you bring your kids here sometimes. They like to put the groups with loud kids in the "outer circle" area, kind of a glassed-in sidewalk. So why did I rate the 5 stars? Because the meal last night was just perfect. Friendly and efficient waiter. Entertaining, even. Perfectly cooked pie (sometimes I've had undercooked pies when the place was busy.) A wide selection of beer (although I had trouble finding one I liked. Too many IPAs). Anyway, congratulations on a job well done this weekend. Looking forward to my next visit.

Mellow Mushroom is a chain of pizza restaurants based primarily in Atlanta but has expanded across the South lately. On a trip back home about a year ago, I saw a sign for one in Ocean Springs, MS, just a few towns over from where I grew up. Though this review could probably apply to just about any Mellow Mushroom, since I frequent the one on LaVista RD in Tucker, it will be about that one. This Mellow Mushroom is located in the same shopping center as the Best Buy. The interior isn't unattractive, but it is a little dated. There is a main dining area and bar with several high top tables. The beer selection is decent - maybe a bit better than average but by no means expansive. As as long as you don't want a fancy, craft beer you should find something satisfying to your palette. The pizza and calzones are pretty good. I've had numerous ones over the years and I've never been disappointed or blown away. I did enjoy the Buffalo Chicken Pizza although the chicken tastes like it's straight out of the can, though the menu claims it is grilled. Then again, I like Buffalo-Just-About-Anything so I'm not difficult to please in that regard. Truth be told, I probably enjoy the calzones a little more than the pizza. I order mine with Pepperoni and Italian Sausage. It bears mentioning that Mellow Mushroom does one thing substantially above average - make hoagies. I enjoy these more than the pizza or calzones. They are certainly better than most I've had elsewhere. The Italian is my favorite. I think what makes the Italian so good is the Black Forrest Ham (which is sometimes served on an Italian, and sometimes not) the Mozzarella topped with herb vinaigrette, but most importantly, caramelized onions. Caramelized onions make almost anything better. The pricing is pretty decent. Two people can have a pizza, or each can order a sub and several beers for about $50. Team Trivia is on Tuesday nights, or at least it used to be. The Mellow Mushroom is a decent place to have a few drinks because you never feel rushed or like you're being hurried out of the place as is the case at some restaurants. Nothing annoys me more than restaurant patrons who after eating just sit there, take up space and blather incessantly. But, if you're buying drinks and still patronizing the place, you should not be rushed out! They should be thankful you're there, buying beer from them as opposed to somewhere else. Hurrying paying customers out to make room for new ones may seem like a sensible thing to do when it's busy, but it can alienate patrons, they probably won't come back and most will tell their friends about their experience, too. /rant In conclusion, Mellow Mushroom doesn't have the best pizza, but it is good, the subs are, in my opinion, substantially above average. Even though the place could probably be redecorated, the casual atmosphere and friendly service make it a fun place to drink and play trivia. Pros: Reasonably priced, laid back atmosphere. Cons: Interior could us updating. Verdict: Recommended.

I've been here two or three times, and it's always problematic. Last time, my mother and I both ordered small pizzas, and they were served to us on raw dough, after waiting 45 minutes. They had a large party in at the time, so we decided to cut them some slack and return. This time, my mother ordered a Caesar salad with dressing on the side, and was served a Greek one. After being informed of the mishap, they gave her the Caesar - drenched in dressing. I got a small White Rabbit pizza, with no sun-dried tomatoes. I ended up being given one covered in tomatoes, and with no artichoke, which I had wanted. They were very apologetic and took it off the bill; the problem isn't the servers, they're friendly and accommodating, if not very efficient. The problem is the kitchen staff - they need to go if this place wants to stay open.

My husband liked his pizza but I did not. It is great that they offer gluten free pizza but crust is very thin and tastes like crisp card board. Vegetables were raw and cold but okay (tomatoes were almost colorless and tasteless).

Eh... Decent beer selection. Pizza was not the best. Although we only tried the Magical Mystery Tour. I might have given it a 3 star rating, but the service was really strange... the 10-minute wait for our drinks might have gone unnoticed during a brief conversation had it not been for one of the servers dragging a giant trash bin past several parties to a large table in the back that needed busing. She was whacking plates on the rim of that thing and clanking around... for nearly 10 minutes. It might have gone faster if she A: used a rubber bin to carry the plates and utensils back for cleaning elsewhere B: used her texting hand for a maximum-efficiency two-handed operation, or C: cared. Blah... Her colleagues seemed annoyed with her as well. We'll probably give it another go at some point. At least sit at the bar and try and new beer. They did have a few I've not seen elsewhere!

I hate to give Mellow Mushroom (which I LOVE) such a bad review, but here it goes. I called in a take out order: small mega veggie - swap tofu for chicken, which I've done plenty of times at the Mellow Mushroom near me. While I don't mind an up-charge (since tofu is x1 topping, and chicken is x2), I don't recall ever being asked or the swap appearing on my bill. Anyway...fast forward! When I arrive to pick up my pizza, my bill is for a whopping $17.53 - for a SMALL PIZZA! The online menu price for the Mega Veggie is $12.52... Accounting for tax, that's close to $4.00 for chicken. To be honest, I wouldn't have minded so much if two of the toppings that should have come on the pizza (broccoli & spinach) weren't notably missing. Far out take out? Not this time...not by any means!

We rolled into town for the McCartney show, looking for some grub on a Friday evening. Since we had a bottle going in our room at the Doubletree, we thought a pick-up meal might be the most fiscally responsible thing to do (Ticketmaster should be renamed "Gougemeister", charing $15 various "fees" on top of the $80 base price..., but I digress) MM was a pretty "hopping" place even for a Friday night. Lady in front of us had a $25 order and tipped $5 (gulp!), and the waitress - who looked at the tip - literally did not even say "thank you", just a perfunctory "Have a good evening". We were told that our order will be ready in 30-35, (and kudos to them, they were almost right on the dime at 30 min.) I'd sheepishly tipped $2 on our $18 tab (and for the record, did NOT receive a "have a good evening"). So how could dinner for 2 at a fast food joint cost $18? Therein lies problem #1. When I saw that their 10" pizza ranged up past $12 for a 10-incher, I was a little puzzled. Are there, um, substances in the pizzas that make them more 'mellow', or are they just out to make a "fair profit"? The sandwiches were much more reasonably-priced. We got the jerk chicken half for $4.50, and therein lay problem #2. I like my food pretty darn spicy, but this was approaching habanero hot! My wife could NOT eat a bite of it. And I swear there wasn't any "pineapple" in it. While otherwise tasty, the whole thing was a soggy mess and tough to eat neat. Problem #3 was with the pizza. Our "Philosopher" was $12. At that price, I did NOT expect a "clean" 4-lane highway on the outer perimeter with no topping on it. I mean, if you take away 1.5 inches of toppings on a 10-inch pizza, it's becoming even more frightfully exorbitant! Add to that the fact that the topping was - to be kind - uneven, or totally MIA. I saw little or no mozzarella and even less of provolone on top - I'm sorry, but feta was not a cheese naturally designed for pizzas. I also detected little or no portabella. The Kalamata was overwhelming in its sodium-rich dominance, totally obliterating the more delicate artichoke hearts1. We had one quarter of the pizza with but one olive on it, but the other 3 overrunning with olives. With something so powerful, they could/should have cut up the olives, and distributed them MUCH more evenly on top. Since that wasn't done, it looked like the scene of a high school cooking experiment. So much potential, such poor execution! I told my wife that I have no doubt my fellow Yelpers might have fallen over backwards to adulate over such a place, and sure enough, I'm pretty much right on!! But at least the wine back at the hotel room was pretty good ...

I have been going to this Mellow Mushroom location since it moved there several years ago. Before that, I was a regular at their old site which is now a BP gas station. There are a lot of things going for this restaurant -- the staff is always frendly, there's a nice bar area and lots of seating, and of course the pizza itself is my favorite. Sometimes the waits for take-out can be a little long -- especially on Friday nights. And there have been occasions when my order has been typed in incorrectly over the phone (I usually pick the food up "to-go"). Overall, though, I have had great experiences at this place.

I can't believe that there is a Mellow Shroom on this side of town. I was certainly happy to see that there is one located in this strip mall with lots of other little shops. We are looking for a place to have a rehearsal dinner for our wedding in July and as a joke I mentioned why don't we have it at the Mellow Mushroom; to my surprise my fiance and her family said that would be cool. I was pretty happy since my job is to pay for the rehearsal dinner and it is a lot cheaper to feed 20 people pizza and beer than it would be to have it a nicer establishment. So we came to this Mellow Mushroom for lunch to check it out and see what they had to offer. They have a nice little private room right off the bar area where we can hold the rehearsal dinner, and the wedding party can get as loud as they want; trust me they are loud. We asked for the manager to come over to our table to speak with us about food costs and booking the room, and he was more than happy to do so. He explained all of our food options and even went to the back to breakdown a price list for us, which was very helpful in helping us make our decision to have the rehearsal dinner here.

After repeated bad experiences with ordering food to go, I'm pretty much done with this location. There was the time where I ordered three pizzas, showed up to pick them up, only to find that the order never made it past the pad next to the phone so I had to wait 30 min for them to make it. Then this week we ordered several pizzas again. The gluten free pizza is rarely cooked all the way through so I asked them to put it back in. After some time, the manager went to put it back in the box and mangled it beyond belief (cheese half off the slices, pieces folded under in the box etc). The MANAGER did this and thought it was okay to send it out that way. I was floored and asked that they recook it. They did of course but by then I had to wait another 20 minutes while it cooked. He comped the pizza but this is clearly a pattern for this place. Too bad because the flavors are good but not worth the hassle and the price in the end.

Worth the wait! Tuesday is trivia night and it is tough to get a table. Once inside we enjoyed the pretzel appetizer and the house special pizza. Both were great. We will be back. New to Georgia

Not sure why Yelp shows all businesses as "Closed" when they are very much open. If a business is closed, shouldn't you just remove it from your Yelp site???? Oh well, this location is open for business and I enjoyed my last meal here. The first time I visited, I had the calzone. I'm a vegetarian and i ordered carry out and got home to find steak in my calzone. I reluctantly returned for lunch with a friend and now I'm hooked. I ordered a salad and a slice and that slice did not disappoint. I will definitely add Mellow Mushroom to my list of go to lunch places. Here's to second chances. Note that Yelp, second chance on all the "Closed" listings which are anything but.

Service during lunch was super slow. Maybe just a new server, but she wasn't busy and was still in the weeds. Food was very good however. Italian sub is interesting twist and calzone was awesome.

I might be coming to the end of my never ending quest for a great lunch destination in the Northlake/Tucker. One where I can receive good table service, reasonable prices, tasty food, and space to work on my laptop without feeling selfish for using a booth alone. I find myself out here frequently for work and it seems like fresh food and good service is a hard combination for these businesses to crack. I've always been a fan of Mellow Mushroom and this location is quickly becoming one of my favorite lunch spots, both for myself and for my employees when I buy lunch for our team. Their salad selection is great (I love the Junior Greek with Jerk Chicken) and everything is freshly made for you. Their pizzas are equally delicious and prepared in a reasonable amount of time. That combined with their large sandwich list guarantees something that everyone will enjoy. The thing that keeps me coming back (aside from their numerous booths where I can hide out and get some work done) is the staff. Every take-out order has been accurate, every server has been friendly, and every quick lunch I have eaten at the bar was met with more attention that I would have expected. Thank you and I will be back!

I've eaten at Mellow Mushroom locations in SC, but was nearby on a trip so HAD to stop here because I think their pizza and bread knots are fabulous. Our waitress acted like she had better things to do than serve us, and then when the pizza came BEFORE our bread knots, she didn't apologize or even act like she cared. About 15 minutes later when we were done with the pizza she showed up with the knots and gave us an excuse that the kitchen forgot to make them (and they looked burned), but again, showed no real interest in trying to make things right with us. Definitely not interested in going to this location again.

Mellow mushroom is known for it's pizza, however I haven't been able to find good pizza in the south.... period. But they do have great sandwiches and their pretzels are pretty delicious. They are slightly overpriced for a pizza place and for the quantity of food you get but it is a nice alternative to other pizza places in the Atlanta area that are so generic. I have friends that love their gluten free pizza, which is very hard to come by. The staff is really friendly, but the service is a little slow.

I've missed eating at Mellow Mushroom since I moved away 5 years ago. So I went back and yep, the pizza is still great. My favorite is the jerk chicken pizza, or just plain cheese. The medium sized pizza is big enough for 2. Oh, and if you want to feel better about yourself, order something healthy like the large caesar salad - it's always fresh.

Catching up on reviews since I have agreed to support my kid in eating vegetarian for a month and pining for days gone by! Have eaten at Mellow Mushrooms three times in the past three months after probably about six-seven years of not eating there because of disappointing pizzas. I swear they changed something or just got their act together because every single pizza I have gotten there (and at different locations, no less) recently has been phenomenal. Gone are the days of raw in the middle, soggy crust blechy-ness. I used to go to the dirty location on Roswell Rd a million years ago and never found the pizza at any other locations to hold a candle to that one. It would have been a solid three star experience, but we ordered a greek salad, which came with a generous amount of kalamata olives and the server happily brought me an extra bowl of them on the side. And my beer was $3. Plus one star. Also: I think that I may eat entirely too much pizza. :(

I don't get to Mellow Mushroom very often, but every time I do, I enjoy it. My most recent visit was to this LaVista/Northlake location, and they reminded me why MM is the go-to spot for casual group dining. Even on a Friday night with a table of 10, service was prompt and friendly, with glasses never sitting empty and all the food coming out together and - more importantly - all the orders being 100% correct. I shared a pie with a friend and found it tasty and well-cooked. They do have several specialty topping combos that sound tasty, but we had a fairly pedestrian pepperoni, mushroom, and tomato. It wasn't a gourmet pizza experience, but it's a great example of "regular" pizza, served with a smile.

I am a diehard Mellow Mushroom fan and have never had a bad experience UNTIL TODAY. I love Mellow Mushroom's calzones and have always liked the fact that they are always packed with ingreadients. Today, I think they forgot to put them in. I ordered a steak and cheese calzone and THERE WASN'T ENOUGH MEAT TO COVER THE BOTTOM OF THE ZONE!!! And then they even charged me for extra sauce. I'll never eat at this location again.

My husband and I love Mellow Mushroom and go here often. The service is good and pretty quick for a place that makes pizzas to order. We always get the Kosmic Karma pizza - it is my favorite pizza out of all pizzas anywhere! The BEST!

This MM, you get 3 stars since you always get my orders right. Every time I went here in the past four years or so, I have gotten my order wrong. Back when I was a vegetarian they managed to put ham on my pizza. Years later I requested that they don't put butter on the crust. They did. I mean, how hard is it not to do something. I am making the pizza making process easier, and yet they screw up. Thanks a lot guys. At least the service is pretty good given that they are hardly busy. If you are not picky with what they end up putting on your pizza, you will be fine here. If you are specific and hate olives and other things like myself, then you might want to go elsewhere.

Eat here alot! always great service, you cannot beat the Mighty Meaty (MM) so you might as well order it and satisfy the craving. Hadn't had a calzone recently though but tried it last week, was a tid bit disappointed in the bread to ingredients ratio, but overall it was still very very tasty. Think I'll stick with my MM MM.

I've quickly become a fan of Mellow Mushroom. It seems as though I have a craving for their thinly tossed pies monthly. I can't seem to get enough of their super supreme, which comes with d@mn near everything under the sun (mushrooms, onions, bacon, sausage, ham, extra cheese, tomatoes, olives...etc). I must give special thanks to this location for accomodating me calling before they even open to place my orders, and then calling back several times to add/subtract things and then the most important thing getting the freaking total. I mean can I really be expected to function at even normal capacity when I'm hungry? ;-)

One Earth-decade ago, Optimus had a good human friend work at a different 'Shroom location before it closed recently. This human friend has since passed away, alas, as have the good times we had there. Kegs flowed like wine, wine flowed like cheap wine does, and the pizza... Listen up, Yankees. Optimus says there is nothing wrong with good Southern-style pizza. If I hear one more dismissive statement a la "Yeah, iss not bad - but iss not like New Yoke! Greates' city in da woild!" I'm gonna let Ironhide use you has his personal cannon puppet. Look, I'm sure New York has fine pizza, great even... but wanna guess what the South has? A much tinier ratio of asshole to human being. So fold up your slice, have a Coke and a smile and Shut the F+#%* up. I miss the old spot, but this one is as close as it gets for me. Nice staff, full bar, and mostly well-executed pizzas & hoagies. Optimus isn't allowed to go into the kitchen, but if he could, he would make his favorite Tofu sandwich the way his friend used to: basted with thick marinade (equal parts jerk, teriyaki & honey w/ a squirt of fresh lemon) on the flat grill with peppers & onions, served on bread smothered in garlic & butter. Simple, spicy, & delicious. I tried to order something like this, off menu, once here. Once, I say. But recent order of BBQ Chicken pizza was phenomenal. 3-star for occasional cookery crime (overcooked peppers, soggy crust), but usually that's due to high-schooler hijinks in the kitchen, I almost guarantee it. Good news is: just ask them to remake it. No problems there.

Dear Mellow Mushroom, Despite having the best pizza in my life at Lombardi's in NYC, I missed you and your house special. Your pizza is way better than a lot of pizza I had while living in NYC. And the pretzels still rock too.

Back in my college town, Clemson, SC, there was a Mellow Mushroom right next to campus. When I saw the Mellow Mushroom here, I thought of all the great experiences I had back in Clemson, so I gave this one a shot. I ordered some sort of meat lover's pizza (can't quite remember its name exactly). It was great. However, the sweet tea I had is another story (caution to other sweet tea lover's, hopefully my batch of tea was a one time, unusual case). The night I was there, it seemed a bit cramped inside. Some of their tables could use a bit more spacing from each other it seems.

Like almost all of the restaurants in this chain, with its oblique nod to 60's drug culture, the atmosphere is casual, the dress is casual and the wait staff and patrons are casual. In other locations I have visited, this has interfered with quality service (smoking weed in the walk-in does not make for great customer service). I'm glad to report that this location, located in the shopping plaza anchored by Best Buy, right at Norhlake Mall / 285-LaVista, suffers from none of these problems. While the staff is certainly casual, the are professional and personable. I have eaten here on numerous occasions, as I live and work nearby. Whether it be a quick lunch break from work, or dinner at the bar where I lingered over a surprisingly diverse selection of draft and bottled beers, I received excellent service and prompt attention. Despite the name, I don't eat mushrooms as I have a slight food allergy. When I explained the situation to the server, they not only got my calzone correct, but explained that it was going to be very hot, as they did not slice it open because all their cooking utensils had come into contact with mushrooms. Nice, caring touch, I felt. if I had to ding them on something, it is that the staff doesn't introduce themselves. They move at a frenzied pace, which allows for prompt service, but if I'm going to be a repeat customer, I'd like to know with whom I'm dealing. The exception was the last time I ate there: the bartender, Stephanie, was unfailingly polite and on top of her game. They offer drink specials at the bar, as well as sandwiches and calzones in addition to pizza. They do not offer "slices" around the clock, which I think is a shame, but you can always take leftover pizza home. There is a trivia night on Tuesdays, but I've not attended. Overall, this may well become one of my "regular" spots for lunch, dinner, and a drink or three.

I like Mellow Mushroom a lot, in fact I'm reviewing a few of them tonight. This one is the closest to my lady's house so we go here once in a while, but it's only meh. They have a good beer selection and the food is on par with the others, but service is wishy washy at best. Twice we've gotten food without silverware, and one time the pizza came out long before we ever saw the pretzels. Not good. Otherwise they're just as good as the others, food isn't degraded or anything, and they're usually not too packed, even on weekends.

I recently took a few friends to the Northlake Mellow Mushroom out of a general lack of interesting places to go in the area. The service was extremely slow, but it is always busy there, so I understand. We had a pitcher of beer and ordered the house special pizza and a meatball sandwich. I was with two very hungry guys so the sandwich was my insurance that I would get something to eat. I thought the toppings could have been cooked a little more on the pizza. It was kind of strange to see semi warm crunchy veggies on top but whatever. It was devoured. I sank head first into my meatball sandwich and enjoyed the entire thing. On my next visit, I ordered the same sammie. For some reason, it took 50 minutes to get and when I got it, the meatballs were all chopped up inside it and the cheese was different. It was a little strange, but I still enjoyed it. I will definitely be back to try my luck a third time.

We were thrilled when Mellow Mushroom introduced their gluten free crust! Sadly, our excitement was short lived. They under cook the pizza so the crust is limp and the toppings are practically raw. (We always put it in a 375 oven as soon as we get it home.) Fast forward 2 years of us making due with the limp GF crust, and we finally hit our limit. Tonight our order was simple, GF pizza with peppers, onions, and pepperoni and a half order of pretzels. The girl even read the order back, TWICE. After my fiance arrived and paid for our order, it turns out the pizza isn't GF. After waiting another 30 minutes at the mostly empty restaurant, he is presented with a GF cheese pizza. No peppers. No onions. Not even a single pepperoni. The kid asked "is this good enough.....?" My fiance, whose patience is extraordinary, just laughed at the kid and walked out. Thank goodness we're moving in two months and will NEVER visit Mellow Mushroom Northlake again.

This location is much better than the old location they were in a few years ago. New, roomy, great for kids and consistent food. Their pizza is good, but I always much preferred their calzones. Parking can still be a pain if you want to get close to the restaurant, but not too bad. The Best Buy parking is jacked up anyway.

I recently found that Mellow Mushroom makes gluten free pizza. It is really good too. I try to visit this location weekly and the food is great. Sometimes the service is a bit lacking, but if you get the right server it is a really fun time.
