Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Not a fan. We walked into a pretty empty restaurant and there was only one table besides us in this huge restaurant. This should have been our sign. An emotionless white kid around 20 years old walks up as we are waiting to be seated and he doesn't greet us, but grabs menus and walks to our table to plop down our menus. There was no "hello," "please follow me" or "enjoy your meal." Their salsa is definitely the boring, ultra watery, and jarred stuff. Our waitress was off in her own world and she never came to check on our food or to refill our drinks after our food was served. I had to yell out for the check since she completely stopped paying attention to us. My fajitas were very mediocre with slightly rubbery chicken and browning guacamole (old). The beans that came with my meal were straight out of a can and had sliced hot dogs (not chorizo) in them. I found this to be very gross in an elementary school cafeteria kind of way. My husband's shrimp dish was boring. The 3 flour tortillas with my fajitas were taco sized. Overall, they don't seem to care and it shows. They are in a great location and the space is impressive, but it doesn't make up for the subpar food and service. Hopefully, management will change or a better Mexican place will take over.

Never again...service was slow, food mediocre, dust and bugs on ledge next to the booth, and restaurant was empty. We now know why. AVOID.

Traveled 60 minutes to get here. . So worth the wait. Food came out super quick, really good cheese dip. Will definitely be back

I cannot imagine that there would ever be a reason for us to eat here again. We came in on a Friday evening and there were only two other tables seated in the entire restaurant. It's very easy to see why. We waited at the hostess station for a couple of minutes and a woman approaches, without a single word of greeting she gets two menus and starts to walk away. We're thinking we're supposed to follow her because she did make eye contact, so she take walks us towards the back of the restaurant. Probably one of the worst seats you can get in an empty restaurant. She flaps the menus down on the table and walks away. Still not one word passed her lips. Bland salsa. Chips were okay. I ordered the fajita quesadilla with steak, and it was terrible. The tortilla had not been cooked, it was straight out of the package. Although I ordered steak I couldn't actually tell it was steak. What it was- full of gristle and absolutely unchewable. You know that very awkward experience when you are trying to not have to take a partially chewed piece of food out of your mouth? I mean, seriously, how do you do that gracefully? That kind I sums up our whole experience here

Enjoyed some family time with good food & good service. Dora worked with us to provide a picky mother-in-law with a nice plate of food that went back empty. I think she enjoyed it. Will return.

I'm surprised this place has such a low rating. I've lived nearby for 27 years and it's one of the few places that has always been here and hardly changed, and it doesn't need to change. I 100% recommend anyone to come here if you're wanting this kind of food.

I stopped in for lunch and settled on the days special Carnitas Burrito. This pork burrito was stuffed with well seasoned roasted pork which was very lean, topped with cheese sauce fresh lettuce and tomato finished off with sour cream dressing. The burrito was perfect and filling, served with rice and beans, chips and salsa all for $7.95. The waitstaff is always attentive and professional keeping drinks filled and plates cleared. Service times out of the kitchen are quick for those in a hurry.

I have been going to this location over ten years and would say it s a solid three and a half star joint. Food is usually pretty good, can't think of a bad meal here in any visit. The service however can run from good to rude. The queso fundido is an awesome heart attack on a plate, so gooooood and so bad for you at the same time. It comes with chorizo, I ask them to make it with rajas (poblano strips) as a vegetarian option, served up with tortillas. This is one of my usual haunts in Johns Creek for quick Tex Mex lunch.

Went here because other restaurants had wait times of close to an hour. Got a table right away. Now I know why. Service was incredibly slow. Chips & salsa finally arrived. Chips were cool, salsa like water. Drinks came ok. Ordered food. Polished off 2-baskets of chips & 1-order of cheese dip. Still no food. Took over a half hour after we ordered food to get it. Observed other tables experiencing same service. Food finally came, tortillas cool & hard on edges. Pico-de-gallo was good. Small portions, Mediocre at best. Very little taste. Beans were inedible. Really! It's a Mexican restaurant! Aren't you supposed to be good with beans? Wasn't going to complain but they cant fix what they don't know about. Called for a manager. Told him our experience. I asked if they were short on servers tonight. He said no. He said, "you really think the service was slow?" I said, "No, I know the service was incredibly slow and the food was mediocre at best." He said, "we've been doing this for 28 years, I think we know how to do this." I responded, "then you have no excuse." "you've had plenty of practice." He did say, "I'm sorry," but no offer of at least splitting the bill. Not a good manager/owner(?). Easy to cross this location off our list. Note: have been to other restaurants in chain with good results, ie Johns Creek. Save yourself some grief, skip the Suwanee location. You'll be happy you did.

The food was basically average to below average. It was not very flavorful and the presentation was just as bland. My wife and I shared an order of fajitas and my son had a quesadilla. Meh. Chips were ok as was the salsa. The restaurant was pretty busy so my experience may be me just being picky or it could have been busy because the restaurant is in a very central location in the Johns Creek area. They also had live music which was pretty good.

This Mexican Tex-Mex chain offers your usual ho-hum fare. I came in looking for a quick "snack" to tide me over before dinner and was amazed to find this huge, huge place packed to the rafters. I was doing the no-meat-on-Fridays-for-lent so my only choices on the menu were very slim: either the fish tacos, the shrimp fajitas, or the shrimp quesadilla. I chose the latter since I didn't want to eat a big meal. Well, I was sorely disappointed -- it was fresh but it wasn't very tasty and they used calabash shrimp!!! To me, calabash shrimp is like using canned chicken on a chicken salad. I consider calabash shrimp as fake shrimp. My snack companion's fish tacos were also flavorless. Long story short, it was a waste -- of time, stomach space, and money. If anything else, the cheese dip was good and so was the service.

My wife and I eat lunch here pretty often. It has always been good and the prices are quite reasonable. The negative reviews I have read were a real surprise to me.

Don't get your hopes up if you are looking for the best mexican food in town. Yet if you want something that is quick and good then this is place that is why I gave it 4 stars. The cheese dip is one of the best I've ever had! The coke is extra syrupy and is also a favorite of mine. I always have the choose three tex mex meal with two tacos and one chicken enchilada and am never disappointed. The meat can be a bit dry but the monsterous mound of cheese on the taco is always a delight of mine and the sauce over the enchilada goes very well with the rice. Stay simple and your meal will be great. Also, the service is very quick and they always have been quick to refill my drinks as I go through a lot with mexican food.

This is the last time I will eat at the Cumming location. I've given them many chances to improve their food, so I will be going elsewhere. The Steak Americano was the worst strip steak I've had in years. It was tough, full of gristle, and way overcooked. It also had no seasoning. The accompanying vegetables were cooked almost to mush.

Great chimichangas! Kids meals are a phenomenal deal too. Comes with drink and churros for dessert. Chips and salsa not great :( but service and the rest of our experience was worth coming back for! Had the chicken soup and it was very flavorful and full of chicken, even the cup! House margaritas were a great deal on Monday and Tuesday night, and were very flavorful. We had them on the rocks and frozen- I preferred frozen but my wife liked the rocks better. The service was attentive, but not uber-fast for a Mexican restaurant, especially since they weren't very busy. All in all, I would come back here again, and likely try some of their dips and salads to see how they stack up.

The first things I noticed when I walked into this place were the complete lack of atmosphere, the Cinco de Mayo decorations in September, and the tone deaf singer with a self-playing guitar who was attempting to croak out something that might have been an attempt at classic rock. To the left of the entrance were games kids could play to win prizes. That might appeal to some parents, but it didn't win the place any points with me. The food was mediocre at best. The salsa was runny and lacking in flavor (exactly like what you might find at other low end Mexican restaurants, e.g. El Porton.) The ceviche was a large bowl of low grade, overcooked tilapia (in the chef's defense, I would probably be scared of anything he attempted to cure) with some poorly-sliced tomatoes and onions thrown on top. What little lime juice there was didn't help to give it much flavor. The chicken soup was bland, as well. The chef attempted to mask the lack of quality in the ingredients by overpowering the bowl with salt and cilantro. The house margaritas were watery and low on flavor. Low grade mix with no real juice to speak of, along with mediocre tequila.

Meh...that about sums it up. Food isn't anything special, and the place is looking pretty rundown.

The food was good, and restaurant staff was nice. I will definitely eat here again. Nothing fancy, but not disappointed.

What's finer than a very, very reasonable Sunday brunch buffet with all the fixins'? How about a Sunday brunch buffet with the chicken enchiladas and "make your own taco stand" situated next to the French toast and omelette stations? If that sounds about right, you should give La Cazuela a try. My boyfriend brought me for a late brunch recently, and I was surprised but impressed that such an odd sounding combination could work so well. We walked in around 1 PM and the place was almost deserted - there were a few groups of people eating, but it was pretty empty (it also happened to be one of the hottest days of the year though, so that may have had something to do with it). A hostess showed us to a table then left us to our own devices, since the buffet was set up directly across from us. Ok! I took a quick inventory of everything available before making my selections. There was the usual brunch fare: biscuits and gravy, grits, French toast, sausage, omelette station, fruit and interspersed with this was La Cazuela's take on brunch: enchiladas, taco station, chicken sauteed with onions and peppers, tacquitos, flour tortillas to fill with ground beef or pulled chicken (plus toppings like jalapenos), and a carving board of smoked ham. I ended up with a plate full of sauteed and shredded chicken, half an enchilada, French toast, smoked ham and an omelette with chorizo sausage, cojita cheese, mushrooms, spinach and pico de gallo being made fresh. A lot of food, to say the least! But that's what the weekend is for right - you can safely be in a food coma and not feel guilty for getting nothing productive done. The staff was very nice. As soon as we sat down a waiter came by to take drink orders and offered up a basket of chips and salsa. And as we cleared various plates he would stop by to pick them up and refill our glasses. I almost missed the dessert table against a far wall, but was glad I didn't. There was no tres leches, unfortunately, but the flan and mini chimichanga we shared were pretty darn good. The flan especially. Overall, I ate too much solid Mexican food because it was a buffet, left feeling very full, and would probably go back but try to pace myself more next time.

Great food and great service. I dont know where some if these other people ate but it wasn't here.

Taco Bell is five star Michelin compared to this place. It's a long time since I've been as it was so poor before, but unfortunately it wasn't long enough, by decades. With it still being open after all these years I deluded myself into thinking it must have improved as poor restaurants usually go under round here. This one is the exception that proves the rule. Our food (there was four of us) was disgusting, and I mean disgusting. I won't go into the tasteless taco chips and watery salsa - the least said the better. After leaving these, my floutas eventually came - they were so brittle they cracked just looking at them (I think the chef must have been tired after his day job and fell asleep cooking them). The refried beans were the worst I've ever tasted. In fact, this was the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted by far - and I've had a lot. The rice must have been sitting under a lamp for so long it was crispy. My son's girlfriend had a 'beef' quesadilla with meat so mysterious an airline wouldn't even serve it. My wife's 'chicken' quesadilla looked like it was thrown together as the waiter was bringing it from the kitchen - which must have been the first time the meat had seen the cheese and both of them had seen the taco. On the quality of the food one star is six stars too many. So how does it stay open? There are often cars in the parking lot - many of them mini vans - you know what this means. There must be enough soccer and baseball moms that bring their broods of indiscriminating screaming kids here to keep it open. A pity. There are a number of Mexican restaurants nearby that are miles better than this one. After this experience, which was even worse than the last time, it now doesn't exist to me. So try any one of the others, all are miles better - including the nearby Taco Bell - seriously. Finally, the margaritas. Remember the aforementioned kids? The margaritas were so small and tasted so weak that they could have been served to them legally.

In the past year or so I've discovered something I enjoy immensely that I never did before: The Solo Lunch. Something about a few minutes of peace and quiet over some mediocre Mexican food just makes my heart a little warmer on a cold, nasty, busy day in Corporate America. I go to La Cozuela a lot because - well, there aren't too many other choices that are this close and the food is consistently ok. My review would have ended there if I had just skipped that day last week when I had a serious need for some chips and salsa, but alas I didn't and so the review must continue and I must complain. In fact, if I had any sense about me I would have complained right then instead of yelping it, but I have little sense, aight? Let me just say this: I go here often enough to be recognized, the server (I generally get the same guy) knows I want a diet coke and cheese dip and also knows that I am friendly, low-maintenance and tip well. That all having been said...the last time I went there this same usual server greeted me with "Don't you have any friends?" My mouth dropped; I stuttered. "I like to eat lunch alone sometimes," I bitterly managed while throwing him the side-eye. "Why? You should get some friends to eat with." I should have just left right then. I think he was trying to be funny, but he didn't laugh. He didn't smile. So I take that back - he wasn't trying to be funny. I guess it's just abnormal for a young professional woman such as myself to enjoy some Mexican food alone. I'll probably need to find somewhere else to enjoy it from now on because I surely won't be giving up my pleasure of The Solo Lunch.

Our family has been going here for years! Almost 15 to be exact... It's just one of those neighborhood spots in JC where families hang out for OK food and strong drinks. The owners are wonderful people. The staff is nice and attentive. The food can be hit or miss. But overall suburban messican! :) And the guy who sings is great! Very enjoyable. Acoustic stuff. Not tone deaf! Actually sang along to a few of his songs!

What a sad excuse for a Mexican restaurant. Potential customers beware. My colleague and I tried this place based on a recommendation by a hotel staff member. We were sorely disappointed. First of all what upstanding Mexican restaurant can pass off nacho cheese comprised of melted white American cheese and milk? None that I can think of. It was utterly disgusting and I can't believe such an establishment would serve such garbage. We ended up leaving most of the food on our plate and walked away hungry that night. Very disappointing. I've never given a one star before but this establishment truly deserves the negative criticism. Beware folks, this is no place to wine and dine your next date.

just okay for Mexican. Horrible live music. And my nachos were a bit greasy. Prob won't go back.
(2)Felicia W.
Decent. Not the best mexican, but it is a fast lunch spot. The atmosphere is cantina, but calm (no loud fiesta music). And the tables are spaced far enough apart that you don't have to hear the latest office gossip of your dining neighbors. Don't forget to rub the Mexican Buddha's belly on way out of the door. You can't ever have too much good luck.

I've never been to such a sad, sad, sad, sad place. My gosh. All I wanted was a decent, flavorful, and delicious Mexican food for dinner on my sister's birthday. But noooo! They gave me lukewarm water, strange bitter veggies for my veggie fajitas, poorly seasoned food, pathetic watery salsa, a TINY table for giant dishes, and possibly the most inappropriate live music ever... when I'm at a Mexican restaurant, a nice touch of Mexican music would be nice (even the fake kind!), not some middle-aged man playing the most Caucasian tunes ever. I would say the only decent thing about this place is the waitress. She was nice enough, but this place was beyond disappointing. Let me save you some cash and please go somewhere else! I'd actually like to know why this place's parking lot is always pretty packed. That's the only reason why we tried it out... clearly, very deceptive. =(
