My husband and I stopped here on out way home from Savannah. The restaurant is ran in an old converted home. The home is actually the home that the owner grew up in. I found this to add to the charm of this place! We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated right away. We got the boarding house special which is $7.99 per person and you get seconds on each dish. It comes with 2 meats and about 7 sides. The food is really good. The pork was a little dry but the chicken was awesome!!! This is definitely a place to hit up whenever you are driving through Statesboro!

To be true to my other ratings, I can only give the Beaver House 3 stars, but don't let that fool you. I would definitely return given the chance. We were the ONLY people in the restaurant, for no good reason that I could think of. Very nice waitresses, a nice setting, real china and linen, and only $8.99 to leave stuffed to the gills with good food! The chicken is good, and there was jambalaya the night we were there. That could have been spicier for my tastes. Vegetables were really good, and I had a ton o' sweet tea. I rate based on quality of food primarily, so 3 stars is something to go to when you just want to eat something good. To me 5 stars is off the charts good, unusual, and typically expensive food, not just "I really liked it". So, please, give this place a try. You won't be sorry!

Short and sweet....FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC. Food and service were fabulous. I wish I didn't move to Maryland last month otherwise I would return again and again. A must go!

We gave this restaurant four stars in April. Based on two visits since then, we've decided to downgrade them. Briefly, we've dined there for two dinners. on both occasions, the food was not served hot, and the biscuits, which would be tasty if at least warm, weren't even warmed up. Everything about our meals looked and tasted as if it had been re-heated (insufficiently) from lunch. We're not sure what's going on. We're told the restaurant no longer has a liquor license, but overall what we found to be delicious and appealing five months ago now seems a disappointment, This makes us sad; the Beaver House is a lovely place with a rich atmosphere, but something has gone wrong in the kitchen, and we need to be honest about what we've found here lately.

A delicious find, thanks to Yelp. Lunched here today with a biz colleague. Really good fried chicken, green beans, black eyed peas and other southern veggies. By checking on Yelp we got one free dessert! It is in a beautiful historic home on Main Street. Give it a try.

The food is pretty good and is served "all you can eat" style. The meats, chicken and pork chops, were fried but tasty; the veggies were a bit over cocked and mushy. The bread / rolls were straight off the shelf at Kroger. The deserts were good. And overall it was fine, if not particularly special. The price was high and got higher when we found out deserts and drinks weren't included. So, I was a bit surprised to be dropping $65.00 for a family of four, given what we got. The service was a bit stiff and impersonal. But the food came on time and we got everything we needed. All in all then, it was a "meh" experience. We might go again or we might not. Either way, I don't think I'll have much passion about it.

This place is one of a kind in Statesboro. The restaurant is located in what seems to be an old victorian style house that has been turn into a bed & breakfast inn, but you can dine in the restaurant without being a guest at the inn. The place has a very southern style atmosphere. You are immediately greeted by one of the friendly staff where they will take you to your table. The tables are all in different rooms of the inn. The menu is quite simple. You get two meat items along with 4 or 5 side dishes. You can also get seconds if you like, all in one low price of $7.99. The menu change daily. You can call ahead to get the menu for the day because you don't really get to pick what you get to eat. The portion size is quite small, but as the waitress explained to us, you can always get seconds. I think it is quite a good deal for the price. At the time that my friend and I went, the menu consisted of slice prime rib and pieces of chicken. The sides are green beans, mash potatoes and gravy, mac & cheese, broccoli, biscuits, and some type of other beans. We also ordered brownies with ice cream and pecan pie with ice cream for desserts. The desserts were super delicious. Everything is home made and totally worth it. I will definitely go back here. I think that this place is perfect for students who miss home cooking.

I didn't know what to expect when I first pulled up to the restaurant but it was nice. They serve the food family style. The food was good and they give you seconds for free. I thought that I would still be hungry after the meal was over but to my surprise I was not. Some of the food was cold but overall very good place for southern cooking. I would definitely go back.

Real Southern charm and amazing home cooking. Served family style during certain hours, you are welcomed by a kind host and a plethora of stick-to-the-ribs, soul-warming goodness. My wife and I stumbled upon this when we decided to detour off I-95 on our way to Columbia, S.C. from Florida. Every time we make the drive, I seriously consider taking the extra couple of hours to make it back to Beaver House. This is one detour that is well worth the effort.

Through the twists and turns of life, one of my nearest and dearest besties now lives in Statesboro. There's no Publix, Target or liquor store in town, so I don't know how she does it. If I'm being honest, though, it does have its charms...this restaurant among them. On Sundays, her father-in-law invites the family (and us out-of-towners) out for the family-style lunch here. The resto is located in a beautiful old house with wraparound porch, and a big tree out front - like something out of an story book. The decor inside is authentically and effortlessly shabby/country chic. And the tables all have crisp white linens, and fresh flowers. Oh, but the food...there's always the basics: fried chicken (among the best I've EVER had), roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy, biscuits (very close to biscuit perfection). Among the sides - there's always a few, and they vary each time I've gone - are mac & cheese, okra, butter beans, rice, and corn. Tried them all except the rice, and they're pretty good. And don't forget the sweet tea!

Forget The Lady and Sons in Savannah, if you want true, honest, Southern food in the traditional Georgia style, come to The Beaver House. For one, the prices are lower than The Lady and Sons, for two, the atmosphere is a charming old farm house filled with antiques where you actually do feel like you're dining in an auntie's home after church on Sunday. In contrast, The Lady and Sons is too busy, too rushed, and obvious in its commercial zeal. Granted, Statesboro is a good ways from Savannah, but seriously folks, this is the real deal. The fried chicken is awesome: I've never had better, and the service is very polite in an atmosphere that can best be described as peaceful. However, there are stories that this old house is in fact haunted, which to me only adds to its charm and intrigue. The country fried steak and desserts, to not even mention the side veggies, are sublime but most people come I think mainly for the fried chicken, and I don't blame them one bit.

My family decided to have Thanksgiving lunch here today. Food was so so, portions were small and we had to ask for second helpings of dishes. At the end of the meal we were not as full as one would expect for a Thanksgiving dinner. Especially at $20 a person for lunch! To add insult to injury, we had to pay extra for dessert and coffee. Our bill with tip amounted to $110 for four people. My husband and I don't mind paying for great dinners in great restaurants but for this much money we usually have drinks and feel stuffed at the end, in other words, we feel like we've gotten our $s worth. Not so today. I am still reeling from the price of this meal. We will not be visiting again.

First thing is great atmosphere! Second thing, great country cooking. It is a family style set-up where they have a predetermined menu and you get everything on it and can get seconds. We had their awesome fried chicken and roast. Fried Chicken was wonderful. Nothing was over seasoned or too salty. We also had desert, a brownie pie. Very good, mouth watering!

Personally, I'm not too much of a fan. I've been over the years for special events, like a tea-party themed birthday party I had as a child, or for my high school graduation party, but it always fails to fully impress me. I want to support local business as much as possible, and if you enjoy the food here, more power to you! I have always found it to be more than a little bland. The real reason you should go is to explore the creepy haunted past, or to stay at the hotel here. It's a beautiful old house, and definitely should not be missed if you're visiting the city.

Quaint, but the food was just ok. Sort of like Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah, but food not as food. But, you don't have to deal with the wait or odd hours either. Worth a try.

Stopped in for lunch during a road trip from Savannah to Atlanta, and boy was it worth it! It was one of the best values I've ever had with the amount and quality of the food, not to mention the beautiful atmosphere and the friendly people working there. Stop in and give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Loved this truly old southern charm restaurant...portions were plenty and the wait staff was great....food was not over salted like so many southern places do and the veges were not overcooked terribly. we wanted to order wine but as of last month the Beavers had not renewed the liquor license and do not plan on it in the future...a bit disappointing since the web site had not been updated for this. Overall a pleasant experience!!

We looked forward to eating here, but were left a little flat by the experience. The old house has great potential, but we got the impression it had seen better days. The porch seemed a bit seedy with peeling paint and the foyer had gumball machines by the front door. A little decoratoin of flowers or something would make a big difference with the atmoshpere. The floors and rug (in the room we were in) were black with grime and kinda sticky to walk on - very unappealing. The Southern fare served family style was average at best - actually below average when considering what we can get even in the non-descript storefronts where we live. The fried chicken was very tasty and well prepared. The green beans seemed right out of a #10 can and were quite bland. The squash had an odd taste. Nothing really very interesting. The place lacked energy. Wine and beer were on the on menu on website, but the owners gave up their liquor license. Place was empty for a Saturday night. We hope better days will return. It wouldn't take much to take it up a star or two. (I don't like to be negative, so I gave three stars, but really think it was a fairly bland 2-star experience).

Set in an old 1800's house this place serves up yummy Southern cooking. Fried chicken, mashed potatos, butter beans, corn bread are some of the usual items to choose from. Enjoy dining in the wonderful rooms with fireplaces, huge pocket doors and large old rippled glass windows. Parking is located behind the house. Originally the old Beaver homestead this wonderful place is still owned by the Beaver family of Statesboro.
