A visit to this restaurant last night for dinner was a pleasant surprise. It was so nice to find a local place in Smyrna to have good Sushi. We ordered a Maru Combination , last samurai roll and sunshine roll. Although we would have liked the spicy tuna in the samurai roll to be spicier, it was still good. The sunshine roll was great! The service was way too fast! Seems to be a thing in Atlanta that the waitstaff does not know how to pace the food so one does not receive everything both cold and hot at the same time! Dinner for two came to about $70 Worth going to. Glad to find good food in this area. Restaurateurs keep them coming to Smyrna.

Came in for lunch, the place was busy but tables turned quickly. We were pushed to the buffet to the point they wouldn't bring a menu (I had never been here before). The buffet has a little of everything, hot Chinese and very minimal sushi rolls. They are thin and small - definitely leaving some thing to be desired. But for a quick lunch stop it worked. Just don't come for a nice sushi dinner.

lemme just say this is one of my fave. place for a sushi lunch buffet! the sushi buffet is a lunch special and it's only available monday through friday from 11:30pm - 2:00pm. the price for the buffet is around 9.95? very cheap! :D quick tip: come early to beat the lunch crowd! the restaurant is quite small so it's very easy for a full house to happen in a blink of an eye. the buffet is very small, but the sashimi's usually very fresh (at least when I come in). the texture should speak for itself. the slices of raw fish that are cut onto the nigiri sushi are very soft and supple. the color on the fish is on point as well (when it comes to freshness). the only downside is..maru sushi cuts the fish so thinly; way thinner than most sushi buffets. i'm not asking for a huge chunk..since it's so cheap already, but they could cut the slices of fish a bit bigger. there is not only nigiri here tho, they do offer rolls and there are about 6-8 different ones that you can try. for those who do not like raw fish or sushi at all; don't fret. maru sushi does offer a wider selection of hot foods. this section includes dishes like: teriyaki chicken, teriyaki beef, some sort of chicken chunks, noodles, fried rice, etc. there's also cold dishes like edamame, seaweed salad, and regular salad. this is where me & the bf never really touch. I remember trying out EVERYTHING the first time we were here and the hot bar definitely was not impressive. maybe I'm just so used to authentic japanese food that this place's hot food just didn't satisfy me. the flavors were just off. for deserts, there was only one option (lol). it was a Japanese style donut, which is essentially just fried dough, like your typical donut..then sprinkled with some confectioner's sugar and chocolate syrup. it's interesting, but kind of hard to eat more than one. overall, I always return for their sushi section; rather than their hot/cold bar. service here is wonderful as well! they're always so alert and quick to refill your drinks :) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - also, I have eaten here for dinner. we came in a huge group and we ordered almost everything on their menu. out of all their dishes..I'd like to recommend their volcano roll; delish!!

Called in at 1:30 asked for price of buffer, drove 1/2 hour to get there and when I walked in they inform me they closed in 4 minutes. Wasted an hour of my day, thanks much !!!!! But the Buffet looked good

During the winter months, they save on heating and it is too cold in here, sometimes in a space that is not well lit whatsoever. Other than that, their spicy white tuna rolls, the spicy tuna-stuffed mushroom appetizer, and the banana split dessert are great. Still have to check out their lunch buffet... Can't wait!

Maru has a great lunch sushi buffet. The night menu is good too, but I stick with Maru for their buffet at lunch. They offer a wide selection of choices for about $10 on the lunch buffet. The sushi is made fresh daily, and they also have hot selections as well. The food quality is great for such a small sushi bar in Smyrna. My coworkers and myself use to hit this place up every Friday for lunch.

I went on a friday night with friends for some dinner and Maru was about half full. Our friends come here a lot and truly wanted to share their favorite sushi place with us. After being seated, our server ( a young girl who recognized our friends from last time) took our drink order. While chatting with us, she looked up at the door and saw a ton of people coming in for dinner. You would think this would be good for business but she kind of freaked out and lost her train of thought. From this point on, the dinner was hit and miss. We had ordered some appetizers and they came out after about 15 min of waiting. Then our main courses came out but someone at the table was missing part of his order. Our server never came back to the table to see if everything was okay. In fact, another server came over after we had finished eating to see how everything was and that was when we were able to tell him that she had forgotten part of the meal. He apologized and wanted to know if we still wanted the dish... we said no... just make sure it was off the bill. The lighting in the place was a bit off. It seemed dark in most of the restaurant and was lit more up front were we were... someone needs to redo the lighting in the whole place so all the tables are lit properly. It was hard to see our food. Other than that, the food we did get was good and we all enjoyed the meal. It just took longer than expected due to the rush of customers that came in after us. I did notice some other tables that our waitress was also taking care of also seemed to have trouble with her service. She never did come back out to take care of us or her other customers. I think she freaked out and left... Atmosphere = 5 Service = 5 Food = 9 Enjoy but beware of spotty service.

What a hidden gem in Smyrna! This place is great for dinner! The ginger salad, miso soup, and spicy teriyaki edamame - staples that are cheap and simple- were taken to a new level. I wouldn't drive across town to come here, but if you live in the area, it's fantastic! We need more good places like this in Smyrna! This will be our regular sushi place from now on.

Came here today specifically for their lunch buffet after reading about the great reviews on Yelp. I have to say I was disappointed. It's partially due to the high expectations from reading the reviews. Nonetheless, I can't say it's an amazing place for sushi or japanese food. I do like the decorations here and the staffs are nice. But the food is just mediocre. For a normal workday lunch, I guess it's about the standard you would expect or accept. But for an experience of great sushi, it's far from good, nothing particularly bad, just not good. The flavor of most of the dishes is ok. Again, nothing made me think of coming back again from another part of the city of Atlanta. I am surprised that it's rated as No.1 in Atlanta. I've been a quite a few places that are definitely better. The choices for their lunch buffet are rather limited. For a small lunch meal, they are fine, but not good if you are looking for a good meal in the middle of the day. The only things here I consider to be tasty are seaweed salad, fried catfish, and salmon sushi. At last, for your reference, I don't consider myself picky in food.

Went for the sushi buffet, which was very good. But it's also a sushi buffet, so it's not great. I'm sure the rolls of the menu are much better. But I enjoyed my experience here very much.

Normally I don't care for sushi buffet restaurants because the quality is often mediocre to poor. Some places do it well but those places are very rare finds and tend not to last long especially when enough word gets around. Sato on Peachtree Parkway was one of those places, and I miss it dearly. Maru Sushi is also one of those rare finds; however, I do not think it is as good as KiKu in Alpharetta. The lunch buffet is very good and quite the bargain at about $11.00. The sushi is fresh and well prepared. The asian brisket on the hot entrée line is tasty and well worth the trip (and at the price of $11); especially true for those who don't really care for sushi. The place is popular with area office workers and gets crowded (at lunchtime), so go before noon before the crowds invade. Perhaps really deserves 3.5 stars but on my most recent visit I will opt for 3 (since I feel Kiku is much better for about the same price).

Had philly roll and shrimp roll. The shrimp roll was gross. It was shrimp wrapped in a dried up rubbery boiled egg. Then fried in wrap. I love eggs all ways but that was nasty. By the way I'm typing this in between bites of my subway chopped salad I bought on the way back from this place. I was really excited to eat good food and sushi. The roll was mediocre at best. The warmest sushi roll I ever had so I'm not sure if I'll be sick just yet but I was so hungry I ate it. My spouse said his was the warmest he ever had as well. On top of all that the place was covered in dust. Really nasty. I have to get back to my salad now which is way better than the crap at this place. Don't go.

This was a simple grab-n-go for me. Was in the mood for sushi, didn't feel like doing any research, so I hit this place up. The ambiance was very nice (but isn't every sushi place tho??) Seemed to get a lot of people coming after work to dine in. Must have a special. I just got a shrimp tempura roll. Nothing special at all. I will have to go back again to give them a full review, and dine in to see their quality of service.

Went today for the lunch buffet which is an excellent price of 10.95 with a very nice selection of sushi, nigiri, as well as hot dishes on the buffet. They have the traditional ginger salad as well as seaweed salad and edamame. We also enjoyed the rangoons, meatballs and pepper chicken. Philly roll and spicy tuna rolls were also favorites. Very fast service. Would be easy to grt in and out fast on a work lunch.

This appears to be a very likable place...perhaps I just didn't know what to order...and should not have gotten my order to go. Spider roll and shrimp spring roll is what I ordered....I wasn't pleased with either. Perhaps my palette was not sophisticated enough??/// I think a true sushi lover would enjoy Maru's creations. I would try it again, but with a little help so I don't waste my $$$. Aside of that, the restaurant appeared to be very clean, and quaint...and the service was pleasant.

My whole family love, love, love us some Maru Sushi. Our sushi-eating daughter and her friend swear it's the best sushi in town. Not being a sushi fancier myself, I couldn't say, but they've sushied in several countries and seem pleased. My husband and I go for the Angus beef teriyaki. It is the best Teriyaki I've ever had, with a lovely tasty sauce, and is always consistently delicious. I also like Maru's unusual vegetables, which they julienne, and pile up tipi style. I don't know why they taste better that way, but they do. Their fried rice is also very good, and not greasy and overpoweringly salty like other restaurants. Maru Sushi is a sit down restaurant, not a chop-chop Hibachi style restaurant. The restaurant is clean, and the lady who runs it is a sweetheart. She knows many of her customers by name, and always makes a point of asking regulars about themselves....and remembers it the next time she sees them. It's so nice to go to a restaurant that actually has regulars. You know it's going to be good when there's regular regulars, so to speak. When we tell folks we are going to Maru, it's amazing how the kids glom in from all directions, begging to go with us.

Very very nice people with an amazing lunch buffet and solid dinner execution. If you eat only one meal out today make it their lunch buffet with its TON of sushi and these little dessert rolls (that make you want to just push your chair up to the buffet and eat about 100 of them). This and Sushinobo are highly highly recommended.

Terrible quality fish... Pretty much on-par with Ru-Sans, but I guess if you're the type that loves Ru-Sans, you'll probably love Maru Sushi. The decor here is nice, our server was alright, and their appetizers were actually really tasty, but the fish... No one at our table could finish their plate, it was all just so gross. It looked like much of it could have been purchased at the neighboring Publix. With so many decent sushi places in the area, I can't foresee myself coming here again.

We live nearby and love coming in with our daughter, family friendly for sure. Very friendly staff, clean restaurant and fresh sushi. We try different rolls all the time and are always pleased. Prices seem comparable to other sushi places. Update on 2/28 Brought friends, tried the Maru sushi version of crab Rangoon and it was awesome!!! Three amigo and rainbow roll are our favorites.

Maru sushi is the sushi place that got me to love fusion rolls. You know, those non-traditional rolls that have cool names like "Black Widow Spider Roll," "Mt. Vesuvius roll," or "supercalifragalisticexpealidocious roll." I used to hate those when I tried them in other restaurants like Aiko. They always tasted weird and non-traditional. But those are the only type of sushi I would get here. I don' t know if I got used to the weird, non-traditional taste; or they make it really well here. Who knows. It's good. Their entrees are well done as well. And their lunch buffet is awesome for it's cost. The best part, during dinner time, you can catch sumo wrestling on their TV! I love sumo! My favorite wrestler is Asashouryuu. Anyway.... Yeah, great place for lunch and dinner.

great food, great service, great value! we go here about twice a month and don't have a bad thing to say about it! Their sushi is always delicious. We have many favorites; the mardi gras roll, dragon roll & tobacco onion roll. The service is great (although it can get very busy during peak times). They always have yummy specials, don't miss one of their desserts like the fried Oreos or bananas foster! i haven't had a chance to visit for lunch, but I know they have a buffet and I'm sure it's great too!

I love their lunch buffet. The Sushi is good quality. They also have great cooked food. I drive out of my way to visit this restaurant. They also have a TV that plays Japanese music videos. Japanese music videos are awesome. Miso soup I not on the buffet, but you can ask for it. It is included in the price. The sushi and meats seem to be of better quality than other buffets.

So I've been going to Maru for several years now. Easily one of the best Sushi spots in the Atlanta/Smyrna area and always consistent. The owners are great and always accommodating. The Sushi is consistently fresh and tasty. I always feel welcome at Maru like I'm a "part of the family" and that's not a feeling you can get just anywhere. Not only are the vast selection of excellent rolls difficult to choose from but if you have a craving for something you don't see the excellent Chef's Joe, George or Mr. Kim will try to accommodate your every whim and serve up something to quell that craving. I really could not give a higher recommendation to any restaurant, let alone Sushi in the Atlanta area. Love this place, love the Sushi and love the folks that make it all possible. See ya soon! :)

I've been going to Maru now for several years, mainly for the lunch buffet. That I've been going for years should says most of it. The food had a great price, service is nice, and there is a good variety of menu items even in the buffet - about fifteen percent changes through each day, giving you nice surprises. The quality is pretty good, and very good for a buffet - just since its sushi being left out for a buffet, right after opening at 11:30 will always be the best time to go.

I've only been to the lunch buffet until recently. Lunch is always busy, but for 11$, you can't beat it. The atmosphere totally changes at night, all the tables have fresh linen, it's a little pricey, 9-12$ a roll but the quality is top notch, way better than lunch. Service was fast and friendly, we had a party of 4 and payed in cash, left a really good tip and got free desert. Good date night spot.

I came here with my friend Kevin H from Orlando for lunch on MLK day. Despite what previous reviewers said, I did not notice a line at all at Maru Sushi. I had literally everything served at the buffet (which you can look at in my pictures). The highlights here are (obvioiusly) the sushi. Compared to other sushi buffets like Nori Nori and Rusan's at lunch, the selection here is a bit smaller. However, the quality here is definitely higher than Rusan's and about the same as Nori Nori for lunch (which in the world of sushi buffets is a good thing). The sushi itself was fresh and well made. It wasn't served super cold like it was just defrosted either (which a lot of buffets have trouble with for some reason). There were only 5 kinds of nigari though, salmon, white tuna, red snapper, fake crab, and shrimp. They also served a variety of rolls, but they definitely were not on the same level of quality that the nigari were at. The hot foods were a pleasant surprise. The beef teriyaki was served medium rare (a little bit of red in the center), and was tender, juicy, and not too salty. The Miso Snapper was unusual but still tasty. The standout however, was definitely the japanese... pot roast? slices of beef and veges cooked in a pressure cooker. It was light yet still tasty, tender and juicy while being relatively lean and healthy. Yum. And they had seaweed salad there too. Not a standout, but definitely more in place than iceberg salad. All in all, a good deal for the money, average food for a japanese buffet. I would definitely have lunch there again. PS, they charge extra for tea.

I went on a Thursday for the lunch buffet (~$11). Compared to all the buffet-only restaurants, this was by far much better quality food all around. In terms of variety, however, it was not large, but still very satisfactory (which is the only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars). It had about 6 varieties of your standard sushi nigiri, and several sushi maki selections. It also had non-sushi items, including (as labeled by Maru): seasonal vegetables, fried rice, seaweed salad, (regular) salad, Japanese meatballs, pepper chicken, beef teriyaki, seafood dynamite, tofu, and a couple of friend items. And the service was exceptionally friendly, polite, and efficient. The only other concern was that when I arrived around 12:40pm, there were almost no tables left, so that may cause a problem if the timing isn't right. On the other hand, they did not seat me at the table of 8 in case a larger group arrived, so don't be deterred if you're a larger group as they probably will be able to accommodate. You can also order items off the menu in addition to eating at the buffet. Not sure when it opens, but they last seat people at 1:30pm and close the buffet at 2pm.

I love going to the lunch buffets, which lasts from Monday-Friday from 10 am to about 1 pm? I'm not entirely sure, but the food was delicious. Service was friendly; everything was freshly made, as it should be. It took a while for me to get a seating, as the restaurant was packed with people. Will go back again, probably to show my family.

I stopped here one night after work for some me time. Ive always seen this place in passing so I gave it a try. I ordered Crab Ragoon and the Kitchen Sink. I couldnt finish it all. The KS was pretty good and the CR was delish! I think it was infused with some Sweet & Sour sauce. YUM!

Maru Sushi has a great lunch buffet for $9.95 - tried it for the first time today with several other Yelpers. We got here close to noon, and there was a line for the buffet - but thankfully the wait wasn't too long. I wasn't too thrilled with the hot foods (the teriyaki beef smelled funny to me), wished the salad was something other than iceberg - but who cares anyway. I came for the sushi :) The selection is pretty simple - not a whole lot of variety. But the rolls they did have were pretty good, and the sushi pieces - nice & generous sized. The salmon & white tuna were my favorites - very fresh & melted in my mouth which means yay, quality sushi for buffet, too. I made at least 3 trips to the buffet line :) Dessert was disappointing though - fried donut ball with glaze. And the soup was MIA - or was I supposed to ask for it? Service was good, ambience nice. Definitely worth a trip if you work in the Smyrna/Vinings area. Lunch buffet is available Mon-Fri 11:30-2pm.

The food here is great! The service on the other hand.......... Please not when I first went here I gave it a stellar review, after a few other visits to the restaurant I have to change my score.... My husband and I love sushi. We go every couple of weeks to get it as a treat to ourselves (generally on our anniversary-newlyweds!) We like to go out and celebrate another month together. We generally come here straight from World Gym (across the street) so obviously after a few hours at the gym we are pretty hungry. Every time we got there we order a lot of food and eat it all up. Hey, we are celebrating after all! Yet, it really frosts my cookies when the wait staff constantly takes jabs at us for ordering more than they would generally eat. I am annoyed greatly listening to..."Are you going to eat all of that? Wow you are so hungry! We have never seen anyone eat so much." While the food here is top notch, we have stopped going because we cant stand how they treat us. We returned to our other favorite in Smyrna Blu Sushi. It is just as fabulous and the waiters aren't rude. Happy Eating!

Favorite Sushi spot. This is the sushi place that got me to actually LIKE sushi so much props to them! Now I love it! The service is wonderful and friendly. The owners are always there and treat everyone so great. If you have a special request, they are great about accommodating you. I live in the city but will drive out to Smyrna just to get some sushi here because it's that awesome! Just check them out, you will love it.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to get sushi for lunch in the Atlanta area. During the weekdays, there is a sushi buffet during lunch hours that is reasonably priced. The sushi is always fresh. They offer the usual nigiri pieces - salmon, tuna, yellow tail - they even offer tomago (egg) which I like. Other favorite items off the buffet for me include the seaweed wraps and the (artificial) crab rangoon. This place puts Rusan's lunch buffet to shame. You can't even compare the two in terms of the quality of the sushi. They also have a live satellite feed of NHK TV (direct from Japan) playing on a flat panel display at one end of the restaurant and Japanese pop music playing in the background (although I'm pretty sure this place is owned and operated by Korean people). Highly recommended.

For a sushi buffet, I give this place 5 stars for selection, freshness, nigiri selection, cost, and super friendly service. The buffet is available from Mon-Fri until 2pm. They offer a lot of other little delictables such as tempura vegetables, Japanese meatballs, crab wontons, etc.

To be fair, I'd say 3.5 stars. Maru Sushi is a little japanese restaurant located in a small shopping center next to a cleaners and tutoring center. We ordered: Seaweed salad -a great flavored seaweed salad with thin slices of cucumber on top, sprinkled with sesame seeds. It's served in a martini glass, and it's a great, clean appetizer to start out your meal. Rangoon -very similar to a friend wonton. The inside has a sweet cream cheese filling. Dragon Roll -not as great as the description. It's a roll with Shrimp tempura inside, tuna and avocado on top, sprinkled with masago. The shrimp tempura was not crunchy or fresh at all, so the consistency was really thrown off. Sake Roll -raw salmon. pretty good. Hamachi Roll -raw yellowtail with scallions. pretty good as well. I would probably stick with the traditional maki rolls here instead of the specialty rolls. The quality of the fish is okay. Prices are okay as well. Next time I come back, I will be back for the lunch buffet! That sounds like the best deal.

    (3)
  • Sam C.

Enjoyed the quality, variety, and creativity of the specialty rolls. The calamari was average, nigiri was also well done. For a suburban sushi place the atmosphere was terrific, I would have expected less of a set-up. Prices were reasonable and the service was fast and friendly. I would go here time and time again, this and Blu Sushi are my favorites in the area (though the two are very different).

Maru Sushi is a staple for those who are lucky enough to be within lunch hour distance. Is it artistic and beautifully prepared and presented? Not really... after all, it's a buffet. But still it's fresh and it's good! And for $12.50, there is no money better spent. From the rolls to the nigiri, it is plenty good to satisfy the mid-week sushi craving. And there are plenty of other offerings, from crab Rangoon to fried rice to Japanese meat balls. It's all very tasty. Not quite 5 star dining, but well worth the price. It's clean and friendly, and the service is exceptional. Your drink will be refilled before you even realize it. This is one of my favorite lunch spots. It satisfies my almost daily cravings for sushi and it doesn't break the bank! Treat yourself to lunch there one day... you won't be sorry!

We go here all the time for great sushi and fair prices. The service is always friendly and prompt. The lunch buffet is awesome if you are able to make it during the week, but I usually end up here for dinner on the weekends. I actually prefer this place to some of the fancier Buckhead and Midtown sushi places I've tried. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. I'm guessing you'll be back.

My husband I went here for our Friday 'date' night. We were seated immediately by a very friendly young man. We started with steamed gyoza (dumplings) and these were the best I've ever had. We both also had miso soup - good flavor and not too salty. Spicy tuna roll was excellent , as was my husbands Philly roll (unfortunately I'm allergic to shellfish so my sushi choices are very limited). Cheerful atmosphere with excellent service. We'll be back!

This has become my go-to sushi spot in Atlanta. The quality is far above most (Rusan's comes to mind) and the prices are not out of this world. Been here on several occasions and the fish always tastes fresh. I usually get the nigiri combo for two when i come with my girlfriend. You get the obligatory miso soup and salad with ginger dressing along with 18 (could be off on the number) pieces of nigiri and two specialty rolls. It's more than enough food and we're usually close to full after just the specialty rolls. The specialty rolls are great but really the true test of a sushi place is how well they handle the standard nigiri and their rice. Both of which are excellent here. Haven't tried the much discussed lunch buffet but looking forward to trying it out. I'm a big fan of sake and this restaurant has one of the better selections I've seen. It's not a mile long list like at some places but it's got a wide enough selection to fit most people's taste preferences and price range. As for the service, in the times that I've been it's always been great. The last time it took a little while to get our orders taken but it wasn't too ridiculous. Overall the service is attentive and helpful and is more than capable of describing what's in your sushi if you're not familiar with it.

In terms of a small sushi buffet, it's probably as good as I should expect, but I'm still generally underwhelmed when I eat here. I go back because my wife likes it, but to be honest, I'd MUCH prefer a decent non-buffet to this place. The service is generally good, there's never a wait, and the fish is generally fresh. But, there's still something lacking... Edit: I just returned to Maru today, and noticed that the fried rice they have at the buffet has beef in it. I don't eat beef and asked if they'd be willing to make me some without beef in it -- the response was that I'd have to pay for it off the menu. I can understand if I were asking them to do something that would increase their costs, but this is just inflexibility that comes across as poor customer service.

I've done a brief tour of Sushi buffets in Atlanta (Nori Nori, Ru San's, Maru) and Maru is BY FAR the best bang for your buck. They have a great spread, including a number of non-sushi options such as tempura vegetables and chicken, shrimp fried rice, seaweed salad, marinated tofu. (Items will change daily on the buffet, but there are usually 6 or so non-sushi entrees, several side items and salads available). There are usually 6 different roll options (including staples like california roll, spicy tuna) and a couple of fried rolls with a variety of fish. Nigiri include salmon, shrimp, and two kinds of tuna. The fish is always very fresh and well cut. The salmon, in particular, is far better quality than Nori Nori and Ru San's. In fact, quality overall here is impressive for a buffet. The cost is $9.95 for lunch (all you can eat) and I'd gladly pay even $2 more for the overall quality, variety, and level of service here. Some tips: (1) Lunches are sometimes packed, especially on Fridays. They're strict on the opening and closing (11:30-2:00). It's usually less hectic in the 1:00 hour. (2) If you do the buffet, remember to ask the server for Miso soup if you'd like. It's not on the buffet, but it's included in the price. (3) The service is friendly and speedy (in terms of drink refills and table seating), and they treat their regulars and new customers very well.

Maru Sushi is great for lunch buffet on the weekdays. Their sushi is a big step up from Ru San's and the hot dishes are A-OK by me. There are fewer selections, however, they're better prepared. Though cozy, the place has nice Asian decor. I'm not sure if they have Japanese television but we sat next to a tv and saw sumo wrestlers, just like if we were in Japan! Be prepared to wait in line during lunch-time on the weekdays though.

Pros: Lots of sushi. Great Service Fast. Cons: Very Americanized. Expensive for lunch. All of the sushi was the cheap americanized sushi (e.g. California rolls, etc.). Price: $14-Lunch Favorite Dish: Buffet Description: The service in this place was great and the atmosphere pleasant, but the food wasn't very interesting. They only had about 10-15 different types of sushi, most of which were the *standard* sushi that everyone likes. I was disappointed when I didn't see any fancier rolls.

A great mom and pop sushi joint in Smyrna. The staff is friendly. Ignore the negative reviews. It is packed most times I go there but you can still get in and out quickly if you need to. I go weekly.

I lived in Japan for 18 years so have a good frame of reference to offer my opinion. I've eaten at Maru Sushi on several occasions for lunch when they first opened in my neighborhood. They have a decent selection of asian food and a sushi buffett. Sushi is a Japanese cuisine and the owners are Korean. The tast is not as authentic as some of the other favorites in Atlanta. They are an average sushi restaurant in my opinion.

My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by Maru! We were a little scared of the strip mall, but once inside, it's just like any other nice sushi spot. We're so glad we found it since it's pretty close to our house. It had come highly recommended from our neighbors. We were there on a Friday night for dinner, and there was a varied crowd of couples, families, and friends. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed. We had steamed shrimp dumplings (just okay) and a few rolls, including shrimp tempura, smoked salmon, the smyrna roll (which I didn't try but my husband loved), and another one with tuna. They offer the option to have your rolls made w/ brown rice, which I REALLY appreciate (even though it's $2/roll - but totally worth it to me!). All the fish seemed very fresh and we look forward to trying other things on the menu! Our only complaint was that the service was a little slow, but overall, we loved it and will be back soon - and they do carryout!

I've been a patron of Maru Sushi since their opening day, and if there exists a single word to describe the quality of their food, it's "consistent." Consistently awesome. In the spirit of full disclosure, I've never been to Maru for anything other than their lunch buffet. However, this is what makes the restaurant so special. As soon as you enter the front door, you're greeted by an enthusiastic member of the staff, who will eagerly assist you with finding a table. I have not encountered a single waiter, waitress, or chef that has not had a smile on their face. They are clearly enjoying their successes, but they also seem to genuinely care about their customers, as I constantly hear customers being greeted by name. To describe the buffet in full detail would be a colossal undertaking that would take many more words than someone would want to read, but just know that there is something for everyone. Upon hearing the words "sushi buffet," some people cringe and immediately think of raw fish sitting in a bowl of smelly juice, which might possibly come alive and attack them if they get too close. But that's not what Maru Sushi is. Maru Sushi is a buffet that serves traditional Japanese cuisine, and sushi just happens to be included in their menu. Fried rice, teriyaki steak, tempura shrimp and vegetables, rangoons, steamed and grilled vegetables, fresh salad (completed by their fantastic ginger dressing), and much more round out the incredible variety that one can find as soon as they leave their seat and visit the buffet. My final piece of praise for Maru is that the place is always, always, always immaculately clean. The staff takes great care of their restaurant, from its cleanliness, to its food selection, and, mostly importantly, its customers.

This place used to be great but the last few times I've gone it was awful!! The last time the staff was rude when I went in, my spicy tuna roll was soggy and my shrimp spring rolls smelled so bad I had to throw them in the trash. I will never visit this place again. I'd rather drive 30 min to Genki( genkiatl.com ).

AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! I LOVE MARU SUSHI FOREVER!!!! Well, I love sushi. Period. But Sonhee and Joseph (owners) are the best at what they do! First, Joseph is a professionally trained chef, who is constantly coming up with new creations and delicious foods to feature on the dinner menu (once he made a roll called Banana Republic that featured tuna and fried banana...I know it may sound strange, but it was to die for!!!). Second, the lunch buffet is OUT OF THIS WORLD, outrageously good (and very good price...only $10 for all you can eat, GREAT quality sushi, kept clean and cold (nothing worse than warmish sushi), with a choice of soup or salad, and there's a variety of hot foods like delicious fried rice, vegetable tempura, crab rangoons, and crunchy chicken). If you're not feelin' the buffet vibe, you can also choose a bunch of yummy things from the lunch menu like teriyaki chicken, donkatsu (crunchy fried pork), or my all time favorite U-don. Dinner is slightly different in that there is no buffet, but don't let that stop you from coming to try some of the awesome items featured for dinner, which are sure to impress any skeptic. The food is always arranged beautifully, and is sure to please your taste buds! Third, the ambience is just the best! The restaurant has cute decorations everywhere and enhances the whole meal experience. I LOVE how they play K-pop at lunch; it just puts me in the best mood ever! If I'm having a not-so-great day, I just come here and it makes everything a lot happier! One more thing: I also gotta say that this place is soooo good that we asked them to cater our wedding reception...and they did!!! It was a major hit with all of our guests (ok, I know EVERYONE says that about their own wedding crap, but I'm totally serious about this one)! They were able to do so much within our budget...I mean, FAR beyond what I ever could have imagined!!! There was all sorts of food for everyone's taste and no one left hungry...in fact, everyone got to take leftovers 'cause there was so much!! We got so much more for our money with Maru Sushi than if we had gone with the same ol', same ol' "chicken or fish" wedding caterers. THANK YOU MARU SUSHI!!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!! :)

I really love this sushi place! While I am not a sushi expert, this place has a combination of food, service and price that makes it a winner in my book. The owners are super-friendly, and I always have a good experience here. Yummy... yummy... yummy... The lunch buffet can tempt you to eat too much, but I seem to do that every time I go! I have never been there for dinner, but I have heard that it is really good. I don't live in the area, but I will drive there for lunch anytime. If I am ever hungry for a sushi dinner, this is where I would head.

Very friendly. I just moved to the neighborhood and this restaurant is down the street from me. I mentioned that I don't like cooked salmon and they made me a roll with everything but that! You get a lot for what you pay for and it was great. So glad it's nearby.

I love Maru Sushi!! We were recommended to come here from some friends and they have definitely received "thank you"s for this recommendation! The environment is absolutely the opposite of Ru Sans. There's no screaming, clapping, or bells ringing. On the contrary, there was a man in the corner who provided live music that was very calming. At first we had a difficult time choosing what to order because I'm a vegetarian. But with the help of the manager we were able to pick apart different sushi items to create our own. My favorite rolls were definitely the tempora veggie roll with cream cheese and the avocado and cream cheese roll with tobasco marinated onion strips. The service was a little bit slow, but I actually felt as though this helped us enjoy the experience more. I prefer slow dining. Our food was awesome and I truly can't wait to return. A big thank you to the manager for helping us out!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a sushi purist, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Went here for the first time this evening for dinner. I'll have to admit that I wasn't expecting much when I saw this place in a mini-strip-mall. Walking inside is pretty neat.. modern and impeccably decorated for a japanese restaurant. I was impressed. We ordered a couple of rolls and nigiri. My favorite was the smoked salmon roll. Great flavor, but a bit too much crunch texture. My main complaint was that the sushi rice didn't have enough stickiness to it and it was too warm. I like the rice to be a bit cool and that wasn't the case. The tuna and salmon nigiri were also sliced a bit thick, but that's usually not that bad a of problem to have.. and might be conditioned by repeated exposure to inferior sushi. The fish was flavorful and quite good. The problem was that nothing particularly wowed us. The menu is huge. Especially the collection of all sorts of rolls if you're looking for something non-traditional, which I usually am. Half the fun is reading the crazy names. If you're feeling adventurous you'll surely find something. Service was pretty darn good although we were pretty undemanding. I'd definitely give it another shot... though the sushi lunch buffet will likely be the next outing.

Maru Sushi is delicious, and so convenient! I grab take-out or dine in often at Maru, and it's nice not having to drive to Buckhead for great sushi. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and make every dinner here an enjoyable one. I have not tried the lunch buffet yet, but have heard great things about it. I would definitely recommend the Bulldog & Three Amigo rolls - they are great!

Came in for a take out order since none of my friends care for sushi, and well I didn't want to eat at the buffet all alone! And I'm sad I just didn't say screw it and make my way straight to the buffet.. it looked amazing! Sushi, shashimi, a few hot items, and dessert were all on display.... taunting me. Maru is a cute cozy place, and the woman that took my order was more than helpful. I ordered the spider roll (tempura crab,avacado,roe...etc) and the wakame (seaweed) salad, both were delicious!! I really can't wait to go back for dinner in the future! They have semi-short lunch hours 11-2, and have a variety of bento boxes for lunch as well.

YUICKS! Well, I read the other Yelp reviews and got very excited. Sushi buffet! Cheap! Close to my office! Fresh! YESSSSS.... Today a friend and I went there for lunch. We walked in and stood for about 5 minutes waiting for someone to come and sit us. No one seemed to care, so I finally asked the sushi chef if we should sit ourselves. He flagged down a waitress, who walked us to a dirty table. After looking at the table, she suggested we go to the buffet and meanwhile they'll clean the table. So far I'm still in good spirits, not minding the service and looking forward to some sushi. We walk over to the buffet and what do we see? A BIG FAT GREEN FLY sitting on top of the sushi. Now when it comes to raw fish, one sign of bad kitchen hygiene and I feel nauseated. Perhaps, if it was a steak, I wouldn't mind so much, but a fly nibbling on a piece of raw salmon - I can't handle that! We both turned around a left. I will not be coming back. I repeat: YUICKS! Buy a goddamn fly-trap!

Maru Sushi is a neighborhood gem. When I first moved to the West side of town, we went on a hunt for a good sushi joint. We happened to wander into Maru and never looked back. The rice has just the perfect amount of vinegar in it and tastes very authentic. Their chirashi is so yummy that I became addicted to it and ate it almost twice a week. Sonhee and Joe - the owners of Maru - are so amiable and, if you go in their more than once, will be sure to find out your likes and dislikes and treat you just like a regular.

Maru Sushi is the best sushi in the city. Okay maybe not, but pretty darn close. Their prices are excellent and the food is always fresh. The owner/ sushi chef is very creative and his rolls show this creative side. He changes his special roll up daily and it is always intriguing and yummy. He will change up stuff just for your palate. Maru is very homey which you don't find all that often. FYI I live in the city and make the drive OTP just for this fabulous sushi spot. Definitely try it out, it is great.

Buffet reminds me of the quality that RuSans USED to have. Smaller selection but good quality fish, not top of the line but for $10 AYCE, you really can't beat it. Most of all I was really suprised when my coworked ordered the chicken teryaki plate, it came out with very nice presentation, something you really don't expect to see for a $6.95 lunch plate. Coworker raved about how good it was.

A very good hidden gem in Smyrna. We went here as part of a meetup group and the restaurant, while looking new, is actually 2 years old. I tried the "kitchen sink" roll which was great and the volcano roll which was good, but my favorite volcano roll is still at a small restaurant in Dallas, TX. The prices were great and the staff was accommodating and cordial. They split the checks without us even having to ask which is nice as well. All in all a highly recommended restaurant!

I went to Maru Sushi twice during a 3 day business trip to Atlanta. I was originally very hesitant about going to a sushi restaurant located in a small, suburban strip mall. I was, however, very surprised that Maru's sushi quality is on par with other decent Japanese restaurants in major metropolitan areas. In both occasions, my friend and I ordered the nigiri and sashimi combo for two. It was absolutely delicious. With very generous amounts of nigiri and sashimi pieces, the combo also came with 1 house special sushi roll. Without a doubt, the quality and freshness of the fish was top notch. They also give you a non-BS, specialty roll sushi roll (some restaurants just include an el cheapo 'chef's special' roll). On Friday and Saturday nights, they also have live guitar music, with Hiro San playing old Japanese tunes. I felt as if I were back in Hawaii! Overall a great restaurant to go to. What a gem!

Excellent sushi buffet. Was not expecting the place to be as nice as it was. It had nice decorations. My gf and I sat up in this elevated indoor Japanese "patio". Hard to explain, not really that exciting, but I liked it :) Was able to watch a flat screen showing Japanese music videos. Sushi bar, which was $10, was impressive. It had a hot portion with Asian meatballs, bourbon chicken, vegi and pork dumplings, some sorta chicken. The meatballs and dumplings were good, didn't try much else as I wanted to focus on Sushi. Sushi was good! They had rolls such as philly, California, spicy tuna, and two types of special rolls. The nigiri was definitely the highlight. Regular and white tuna (my fave), salmon, red snapper, might be more. The tuna was excellent! Perfect mild taste and it seemed to melt my mouth. Overall, great quality for the price. Will be back.

Fabulous food at a fair price! Maru Sushi is a local favorite for my family. The cuts are generous and surprisingly affordable. The atmosphere is relaxing, romantic, and even family-friendly. We typically eat here for Friday night dinner (tempura soft shell crab and deluxe nigiri dinner), but also enjoy the occasional lunch buffet - either way, you can't go wrong. They can accomodate larger parties (we've gone with 24 total people on a Friday evening) as long as you call ahead.

Great selection and cut. The prices are a bit more than others but well worth it. The cuts are large and the perfect temp. The owner seems to be very knowledgeable. All they need is Toro and wifi and this would be the top pick for the West side.

My wife and I have been going to Maru as our single stop sushi shop for almost a year now. Sonhee and Joe are absolutely attentive to your every need and are a delight to speak with. They will learn your likes and dislikes quickly, and will always remember to make your food the way you prefer it, even if you don't ask. The sushi is always great and the daily special rolls and sashimi choices are always exciting. We have made it a weekly stop for us, and look forward to going every week! It's always clean and the fish is absolutely fresh.

The yellow jacket roll and the Mexican roll were both amazing! The best I've ever had for sure!!! The only thing I would change is make the sake hotter. Next time I'll ask for it hotter! The people there are so nice and the service is excellent. I can't believe I've waited this long to try this place. I will be back soon! The green tea ice cream was a plus also!!!

Twelve dollar sushi buffet. I guess I should have known. Not really that bad, but the hot food and cold food, including the sushi, were both pretty much room temperature. Of all things to not keep chilled, raw seafood is one of the worst I would think. Food offerings were pretty standard. Nothing really stood out. I probably won't go back.

Amazing sushi! And a great meal! Nice presentation! The place is a hidden gem. Very small but nice atmosphere, would be a cute date destination. The sushi we tried was Spicy Jalapeno Tuna roll and the Mardi Gras roll. Best sushi I have ever had.

This has been on my list to try for quite some time. I came for dinner so I still have to try the lunch buffet I have heard so much about. I usually don't comment on service because I believe people have off days and it doesn't represent an establishment. Our sever was fantastic. He could not have been any better. I started with a ginger salad. The dressing was perfect. Next we had an array of rolls that we ordered all extra spicy. I'm glad we did because we really enjoyed the added flavor. Last we tried to order the ginger creme brûlée but it was already sold out. Huge bummer but it just means it was good. It was by no means the best sushi roll I've ever had in my life, but it was very good. The place is convenient. The service was great and the staff was extremely friendly!

In Atlanta for bidness, took a flyer and searched yelp to see if there was a Sushi buffet. Imagine my surprise when I found this gem not far from my Hotel. Not a super-wide selection, but what was there was fab, and tasty. Priced right. Nothing too clever to say here other than it was a fine feed. Go there!

Mari Sushi has been my go-to for lunch buffet in Smyrna ever since I was introduced to this place just over a year ago. Unfortunately, the lunch buffet is only on weekdays, but definitely give this place a try whenever you get a chance. It's about $12 per person and you will definitely get your money's worth. Although Maru Sushi is advertised as a sushi buffet, I don't come here specifically for the sushi. What I like from here is the stir-fried and pan-fried dishes. I literally try a little bit of every single dish since some don't look appetizing but are surprisingly delicious. They have dishes like fried catfish, salt and pepper chicken, meat balls, tofu, and teriyaki beef. There's not that many dishes compared to a Chinese buffet, but everything they do offer is delicious. Quality over quantity right? The wait staff is friendly, the atmosphere is great, and during lunch hours, it does get packed, but I've never had to wait more than ten minutes. It could be because I come pretty late (around 1pm, lunch buffet ends at 2pm), but hey, the food is still warm and delicious at that time, so nothing wrong with being a little late right?

I've gone here on multiple occasions for dinner and have gotten good sushi but their prices are high. My bill for 2 simple rolls and a glass of water is over $30 every time. In addition, I prefer rice paper rather than seaweed for my sushi rolls and they charge an additional $2.00 per roll to do this. (Dinner 3 Stars) Unfortunately, their Lunch Buffet consists of All You Can Eat Sub-Par Sushi and Greasy Fried Food. I've seen buffet photos from other reviewers and it is certainly not the buffet that was available the day I went. (Lunch 1 Star)

A great sushi place for the area. The portions are good, the roll widths are pretty large. The fish tastes very fresh and the buffet is great for lunch. Lots of fresh, creative sushi roll varieties available. The kitchen is very visible so you can see the sushi and other dishes being prepared. A cool process if youve never been. Their non sushi menu is pretty standard but a bit over priced. The steamed gyoza or edamame are my appetizer choices. I like the Japanese bagel and dragon rolls. They have some great dessert options, which is uncommon for a Japanese place.

I am glad to have discovered this place within 5 minute drive from my office. I would have never thought this tiny little restaurant has a legit buffet inside. It was Friday lunch time, my coworker and I were seated right away. The couple behind us? Not so lucky. 10-15 minute wait for them. Frankly, the sushi was just ok. Typical selections of salmon and tuna nigiri plus a few rolls. But what it stood out was the hot and cooked foods. I have never been to a Japanese buffet in Southeast USA that serves decent stir-fry and pan-fry food. Even the fried rice is awesome. Normally I only in sushi in a sushi buffet, but I broke my rule here. I am going to report to the Maru Sushi Jail every Friday at 11:30.

Bitterly disappointed. I read the glowing reviews and either today was the chef's day off or something has changed drastically. First, the good news. It was raining and we found a parking space right by the front door. Thus endeth the good news. The confusion begins at the front door. The line for the buffet and the waiting area for seating ("Wait here to be seated") are the same (tiny) space. Thus the frequent repeated question by one and all - "Are you on line or waiting for a table?" Once the hostess/waitress somehow divined that we were waiting for a table (perhaps the fat that we had our coats on helped), we were shown to a table. Fortunately, my wife had grabbed a paper menu while were waiting to be seated, because no one gave us one at the table. My wife, who is not a sushi fan, decided to order the "hibachi fried rice", described as "tender beef and vegetables stir-fried in a sopecial hibachi sauce with rice." More on that later. I chose the buffet and proceeded to join the crowd at the front door. The buffet line is designed in an L-shape, in a very narrow space. It is impossible to pass by a guest who might be lingering over a section where you have no interest. I chose some of the vegetable tempura, then a selection of the maki and some of each of the nigiri. When I returned to the table, I found my wife staring at a mass of congealed white/beige rice with some small bits of brown and green color poking through. The rice had obviously been stuffed into a bowl, formed into a hemisphere the size of a soccer ball and then dumped onto a plate. It was the least appetizing dish I have ever seen. Fried rice should have separated grains; the meat should be identifiable as such - the largest piece here was smaller than my pinky nail. It was obvious that the cook had merely taken some leftover sushi rice, tossed it quickly eith some form of "sauce" and added small bits of mystery meat. He then smashed it into a bowl and inverted it onto the plate. "Unpleasant" would be an upgrade. Once we were able to get the attention of thewaiter, my wife explained that this what not what she had ordered. She explained what she wanted and he disappeared with the rice mass. Meanwhile, I tried the nigiri. The rice was actually warm to the touch! Apparently the cook had merely grabbed some directly from the rice cooker, formed it into a ball and stuck the fish on top. All of the pieces were similarly warm to the touch. I removed the fish from the rice (to prevent it form cooking) and allowed the rice to cool. I next tried the tempura. The batter was thick and fried in such a way as to evince a good 'ol boy fish fry. It had none of the softness or thinness associated with tempura. The maki, all of which were assembled "inside out", were mostly rice with a bit of filling. They were uniformly flavorless, except for the heavy dose of sriracha in the "spicy tuna" roll. The waiter returned with a dish of beef teriyaki for my wife which she pronounced as "good but not great." The fried rice accompanying this dish was properly prepared. She reported that the vegetables were crisp, frsh and flavorful. One last note on the service: we ordered green tea which was served in small cups, but without an accompanying pot for refills. To get a second cup of tea required that we flag sdown one of the wait staff and wait for him/her to return with a coffee carafe from which they poured the refill. We gave up waiting for a third cup. Finally, the waiter returned with the check and the rice mass, neatly wrapped for take-out! We were charged for this mess. Thus. a lunch comprised of poorly prepared sushi, mediocre beef teriyaki and a white rice soccer ball cost me forty bucks. At least I had a good parking space.

Been here several times for the lunch buffet and I end up enjoying myself every time. There is a very good value in it if you stick to the nigiri, the salmon is just as good as several of the other sushi places around, but this is obviously all you can eat. The rolls are very rice-y, but what do you expect? They do some of their other dishes pretty well too. Surprisingly the meatballs and the friend catfish are both good, as is the pepper chicken. I used to love their fried rice but this past time it had ham and pineapple in it.. Wasn't feeling it. Anyway, all you can eat sushi. Be strategic. Stick to the highlights. You know the drill. Price was $11.99 most recent visit, I believe when I first started going it was $10.99.

Love this place! We always tend to eat here late and the sushi is always spot on. Be sure to try the miso soup and fried rice. YUM!!! I recommend the volcano roll and the spicy tuna crunch roll. Service is attentive, warm and helpful. One other thing: at lunch, they have an all you can eat sushi bar for $21. This is a steal! You should know that this place does have a hibachi menu but ask hibachi is done in their kitchen, so no show.

I came here with a group from work for their sushi lunch buffet in which I walked away saying, "meh." Unlike previous reviews, the price here was a bit higher than I expected. For their lunch buffet, they charged me $12.63 instead of the $9.99 that was advertised. The sushi is all cheap $1 type sushi rolls that is really "meh." They have other food options at the buffet, but not much. I would say 3 bars in total, 1 for food and 2 for sushi. For this price point, I can't say this place is worth it. However, the service is really good. The waitress always made sure plates were out of the way and our drinks were topped off. Kudos to that.

Came here a couple times in the last couple weeks or so and service and quality were back up. The all you can eat extremely fresh nigiri really sets this lunch buffet apart from most if not all other competitors. Go here on average once per week.

Have been hitting this place up a lot for lunch recently as my wife has had a rash of unexplained sushi cravings. Remains one of the best lunch deals going. Simple selection of tasty hot items from pepper and fried chicken to tempura veggies and fried Catfish. I usually never fill up on starch but their fried rice is awesome. Then a handful of great quality rolls and nigiri. All fresh and we'll stocked. Quick service too and they automatically bring seperate checks since there's a lot of business lunch folks. Good spot!

I've been to Maru Sushi twice for dinner. Everything I've tried has been delicious. The place is quiet, and everyone that works there is nice and attentive.

Honestly, if you get nothing else from this review just remember: Lunch Buffet. Ive been there for dinner. It was a good experience. Its one of the few places, oddly, that carries otoro sushi. Its medium on the authenticity scale. A mixed staff of family, employee and kids. During the day they have that creepy J-Pop music on a TV in the back (not too loud, but dont stare at the TV too long or you will go blind). Our dinner service was good, not quite into the realm of great. It was a younger girl who seemed newer to foodservice. The sushi I ordered for dinner was moderately priced and good. I cant call it mind blowing but I havent had my mind blown by Atlanta sushi yet (and am not expecting to given the population and proximity to the source). But the lunch buffet. Its money, and by money I mean not a lot of money and good. Hot and cold, the place is packed so the turnover is really, really high. Get the catfish, even if you dont like it. Best hot thing on the bar.

Unfortunately, we received poor service from the team at Maru Sushi. It took them a while to get out food out and when they did it was incorrect. We don't have a whole lot to say about the sushi other than there are too many better options closer. We will continue to drive 5 mins further to Orient Express.

One of our favorite little spots. Very good ambiance and very good food. They always have great service and are really prompt in bringing food. We usually go on a Friday or Saturday night. Really good rolls and we love the beef, shrimp, or chicken entrees they are always good. We really liked the scallops as well. Must try this place compared to most places you will be surprised and save a little as well.

I love this place and unfortunately do not get to go as often as I would like. I've had everything from sushi to fried rice to salads and they never disappoint. We walked in on Valentines one night, not expecting the place to be packed. There was a 2 hour wait but they squeezed us in within 30 minutes. They also gave each couple a rose which I thought was very sweet. I can't say enough about their customer service. If you're not happy about something they will fix it right away!

Sushi was phenomenal. I definitely recommend the Samarai roll. Service was pretty god as well. Very fresh! Look forward to bringing friends from out of town here who are sushi lovers.!

This place has a lunch special until 2 p.m. The funny thing is one of the waiters yelled at us because we were eating to much!!! Like What?! We were eating and he literally yelled at is because we weren't eating the rice that came with the rolls, we love sashimi so we usually went to enjoy the fish. Now me and my wife weigh 300 lbs. put together so this isn't a fat issue, they just put way too much rice in their rolls. So from that point on we were finished. That was no way to speak to a regular customers this place just got chopped in our book. No thanks.

The best sushi place in Atlanta, hands down. Lunch: Unlike other popular sushi buffets in Atlanta, the owners DO NOT use less quality fish for their lunch buffet and the food is consistently delicious. It can get busy at peak lunch hours (11-12) so try to come right at opening. They also provide warm miso soup but you need to request it from your server. It's fast-paced since most people are on their lunch break, the ambiance is fun and it's always enjoyable. Servers are sensitive to making sure that drinks are replenished and used plates are clean. Dinner: The restaurant turns completely different and the ambiance is very relaxed. There are tablecloths, linen napkins, candles- it's an excellent date spot, place for a small dinner get together or a place for a girls night out. Don't forget to check there special of the week menu- the chef also creates DELICIOUS seasonal desserts that should not be overlooked. Overall- The staff is kind and if there is ever an issue, the owner personally comes and tends the issue. It was overwhelming to see how many regulars they had and warming to see how they really became friends with customers. They put in great care for their food and will never present sub-par food. Everything is decently priced considering the quality of the food you get.

Came here for a dinner one night with my girlfriend and her family. All in all the food was great and service prompt. The tuna was excellent, which is usually my yardstick for places like this. My one complaint was the TV in the back playing K-pop videos with the sound off. It was very distracting and I had to ask several times for it to be turned off (no one else was inline with it). They didn't even charge extra for the extra condiments my girlfriend loves to order (we diverge when it comes to affection for abominable things like spicy mayo or eel sauce).

Excellent!!!! Great sushi and sake! I had the kitchen sink roll minus the shrimp and the sake sampler. My favorites were the Haiku and the Plym Gekkeikan.

We ate here twice, as my husband and I believe we should give a place a second chance. Both times the sushi was warm (warmer than it should be). They do not give you high quality fish. I got sick after the second trip. I had a roll with salmon on top, but the salmon was turning brown, and was not properly prepared. The amount of fish in a roll is minimal and mostly rice. I would not recommend eating here.

Gross and service was unwelcoming. Manager/owner rude and fish was not fresh.

So gross! The fried chicken on the buffet tasted like shoe leather. The catfish was cold and the edamame tasted like it was straight from the Bi Lo hood grocery store. The sushi was just ok. I'd never go again but going to restaurants these days are a crap shoot. Save your hard earned $ and go to RuSan's for a better sushi buffet experience. Perhaps it was just the buffet.

I was underwhelmed by the sushi I ordered to go for dinner once, but their lunch buffet is great. It has a good variety of sushi - as you'd expect from a buffet it's mostly the simpler rolls, but there's always a couple of the fancier ones as well. The non-sushi part of the buffet really impressed me, especially given the low price. The vegetable tempura was really excellent. I was really impressed with the service as well; the waiter kept my water and hot tea refilled, and I had brought some work with me so I could have a leisurely lunch, and I never felt pressured to leave like you do at some buffet places.

Great Sushi. The pieces of Sashimi are not as big as Orient Express but very good. It is obvious the chef takes great care in preparation and design of the menu. The ginger is very fresh and natural. Most ginger is died pink to provide a consistent color and presentation. We ordered sashimi deluxe and spider roll with unagi hand roll Nd it all tasted great. The service was very good as well even with a five year old. The desert are awesome. You have to try Oreo tempura.

I always get excited about finding new sushi places that don't charge me an arm and a leg. What a wonderful find this is. I've driven by Maru Sushi about a hundred times and always though "well, it looks tiny and is in a strip mall...how good can it be?" A friend of mind recommended I give them a try and boy, was I pleasantly surprised. It's actually a lot bigger on the inside than I expected and it's a lot nicer, too. I went there to pick up my order to-go and once I walked in, I almost felt bad for going there in my yoga pants. I had the spicy tuna roll (a classic) and the "Three Amigos" roll. That was SO good. I also got a small side salad to finish the meal. It all came together at $18... not bad for a sushi dinner! The only downside, I guess was that I was hoping that the fish was a little less "cooked" in the flash-fried roll. The wait staff couldn't have been nicer. I will gladly come here again. Do they deliver?!?!?

For the price, the unlimited, all-you-can-eat lunch sushi is great. That means the rolls tend to be rice-heavy and the sashimi isn't the highest quality. But for the same price as a extra large McDonald's meal? Come on. I have never been here for anything but lunch and the longest I've had to wait is about 10 or 15 minutes. Often seating is available with no wait. Service is good, and friendly.

The scenario: Friday lunch w/co-workers Mmm...sushi. This little sushi joint, tucked in the corner of a tiny shopping center, was a treat on a lovely Friday afternoon. The inside of the restaurant was very clean and brightly lit. I was so glad to finally be eating at a sushi place that didn't buy all of their decor during a shopping spree at IKEA. Our lunchtime visit was all about the buffet, which was decently priced at about 10 fins, came with a choice of miso soup or salad, and had a pretty tasty selection of sushi, sashimi, rice/salad, etc. I had two major bones to pick about the buffet though: 1. While I have a pretty adventurous pallet, I'm not much of a sushi psychic. So I didn't really enjoy the guessing game trying to figure out what the heck some of the rolls were because not everything was labeled or the labels were Very Vague ("Roll of the Day"?). 2. While the table service was attentive, the guys behind the line seemed to be drowning in the demand for their food. They had a hard time keeping fresh food stocked on the buffet. What's the point of cold tempura? Atmosphere-wise, it was a mixed crowd of leisurely lunchers and folks escaping for work for a little bit. My group was a little rowdy, which I'm sure the guy a few tables trying to enjoy his lunchtime read must have found a tiny bit obnoxious. Overall, we enjoyed this place and will probably be adding it to the Friday Lunch Bunch's rotation.

I've only been there for the lunch buffet, which is OK -- I've found no problems with the food quality, although they do sometimes struggle to keep enough on the buffet to keep up with demand. My major gripes are that the service is iffy - one day it's fine and the next day you have to go get your own drink refills.

I live in Midtown but work in Smyrna, and was turned on to this sushi spot by a group of coworkers. They have a sushi buffet at lunch daily, and it is always full of fresh rolls, sushi, and sashimi, just made by a sushi chef standing 4 feet away, interesting stirfrys and more that I don't know the name of, and great additions like the spicy seafood stew, or the japanese cole slaw. Do not confuse it with a chinese buffet, it is a sushi lovers dream! For a great price, you can have your fill! I was never a big fan of sushi until I tried this place. Now I can easily say I have eaten sushi at least one million times. The outside is strip mall scary, but the inside looks like you stepped into a Buckhead or Highlands spot. The staff always provides fast and very friendly service, and the whole place has a great vibe. You will see doctors in scrubs sitting two tables away from construction workers or teachers on a teacher workday lunch hour. It is a great place, with fresh, wonderful sushi. After reading the other reviews, I am definitely going to try the kitchen sink roll.

well being that im from los angeles i depend a lot on yelp when im working out of town. that being said i read the other reviews on this establishment and well they were mixed! i should of stayed away cuz the negative reviews were all correct. all though the owner / sushi chef was very nice and helpful with advice on where to find the best bbq joint in atlanta, the slices of fish on the nigiri were very small and worst of all very warm especially the second plate i got.i could see maybe if they put out huge plates and it had been sitting out for a long time, but,as fast as they could put out a plate it was gone! very small place so were they keeping the fish sitting out next to cooked items or oven cuz my second plate seemed like it had been microwaved sor a few seconds! no lie, awful it just changes the texture of the fish and i actually spit it into my napkin and ruined my entire lunch! the price and my lack of transportation and being so close to my hotel were the only reasons for going here. terrible decision i guess some people have no idea of what good or even decent sushi is? 1 star for conversation!
