Not a good dining experience and will not be returning!!! After the regular wait to be seated 25 to 30 minutes we were seated. The server came and took the order for one appetizer which took forever to come out. Then we ordered a plate w clams, crab legs, and lobster. The worst part was when the server came and said the tool to eat the lobster and crab legs were all being washed in the kitchen and they didn't have any available...HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO EAT THE DAMN FOOD" The server said she would bring them out so we WAITED & WAITED & WAITED. Finally I was so pissed off I returned the whole dinner. I spoke with the manager and he wanted to charge me for half of my food REALLY ARE YOU NUTS!!! All the while I had been watching the manager lazily sitting at a farside table chilling and talking with I guess friends while the guests dont have utensils to eat

Sitting in the deck next to the river was pleasant. The food, just like other Joes, was okay. I had a queen crab basket, with no seasoning. My dish was pretty good, with 2 sets of legs. My girlfriend ordered a steampot, that included shrimp, a lobster tail, and a set of crab legs. The lobster tasted old, with a strong seafood taste. There are much better places within walking distance to eat.

First time to a JCS... Server Deetra was very nice and checked in on us. Food was good and wait time was not bad at all.

Had our Xmas eve dinner here for Contiki while going down the East Coast- such a fun place. Roommate and I shared the Fish & Chips which had a Samuel Adams beer batter around the white fish. Came with coleslaw as well as fries. Decided to try their cocktail menu and chose the Joe's Shark Bite which was this fun Blue Curacao, Spiced Rum and Light Rum mix that came in a goblet. Came with a test-tube holding Grenadine toy shark on the side. Wow, did that ever turn out to be the right decision. The waitress would pour in the red Grenadine with each order and yell "A Shark is coming" so it looked like blood in the Blue Curacao 'ocean' water. Absolute ball. I think our friends ordered it after that just so they could get that novel experience. Good flavour also. Great service- and neat seafood place. Definitely recommend a visit for the Shark Bite as well as for the food!

Greasy, overpriced. The mahi-mahi tacos had just a tiny bit of overcooked fish and barely any pico. The seafood isn't even necessarily local, it could come as far away as the Pacific Northwest. We didn't get crab or lobster, which is probably why we were so disappointed. But the rest of the menu shouldn't be so grim. We regret coming here and not a local Savannah restaurant. Would not return.

Love the seafood! Hate eating off foam plates and using plastic utensils however! I also expected my shrimp salad to be upon a bed of lettuce, however it was just shrimp/mayo salad bt itself with a side of coleslaw and a 1/2 piece of corn. My husband had the crab shack special for one and he loved it.

The restaurant wasn't busy with at least 5 table open with plenty of servers. Long wait on food (appetizer over 40 mins), server doesn't check on the party rarely (once every 20 mins if not longer). No refills on drinks. We sat for 2 hours before main entry was here. Tip was included which she didn't deserve $14 for the poor service we were getting. Ok food bad service.

We decided to sit outside on a Friday to watch the fireworks courtesy of Wet Willies. The view of the river and fireworks was perfect. The food and the service was anything but perfect. We had to wait about 25 minutes to be seated. We decided to get drinks at the bar. The service at the bar was fine. Once we were seated our app of Great Balls of Fire came out in a decent amount of time. The entrees took a while. I understand it is busy on a Friday, but one hour for two entrees is ridiculous. Once we relieved the platter we did not have the cracker to open the crab legs and lobster. Our waitress stated the kitchen did not have any clean. We waited about 15-20 additional minutes for a cracker. We spoke to the manager and honestly he gave the impression he could care less. We ended up sending the platter back. The manager attempted to charge us because he stated some of the crab and lobster had been ate. In the end the platter was removed from our bill. We should have stayed at the bar. This is definitely my first and last time at Joe's Crab Shack.

Service is somewhat lacking but the food is comparable to other Joe's. Absolutely DO NOT order water. Moon River and Joe's both taste like they get their water from the Savannah River. Utterly disgusting.

Fantastic location - eating out on the deck is a real treat. Like other Joe's crabshack's that we've been in, The atmosphere is fun and light. The server Najah and the management were excellent - we did not wait on anything! Our food was very good. We plan on returning soon.

We had to wait about 40 minutes for a table for our group. But saw empty tables while we were waiting. The food was good but they were out of what we wanted. The service was ok.The atmosphere was cool though. They danced and did a ton of birthday celebrations. My fiancé asked for a shot of fireball and they gave him regular whisky. Not what he asked for but he is not the picky type so he sat quietly and drank it and then mentioned it after we left. It was a clean environment and the restrooms were clean so thats a plus!

Love this place. Its expensive but always so fresh. With it were a franchise so we could get one here near Charlotte.Do miss the songs which they do in Orlando. Our waiter brought the wrong meal once but got it right the second time around. I really dont mind paying more though when the food is so yummy

  • Will T.

Ornery servers, awful food and long wait times. The only reason we came here was because during Christmas, Savannah was deader than Atlanta in the walking dead. We waited ten minutes to get a table, and an hour for our food. Avoid this place and try another restaurant, perhaps the excellent cotton exchange instead.

  • Suzanne S.

Food was mediocre at best! Service was sluggish and didn't have anything we wanted from the menu. The were out of crab cakes, lobster bites and lobster casserole. Waitress was sweet but a bit clueless and I had to ask for (and wait even more) for refills to our teas and sodas! Complained to assistant manager and got a discount on our meal, but I would have much preferred good food at full price. Outdoor seating okay on picnic benches (no backs) but scenery very nice.

Stopped here for family dinner, though neither the hubs nor I like shellfish. I went for the mahi tacos, which were delicious, and he had fish and chips. Best thing about this place was the attentive service: we arrived late, after the rest of the party had started, and our waitress was quick to make sure our food would be out quickly so everyone wouldn't be finishing without us. Great atmosphere, as well.

Great Location, fun environment, good food. Slooow service. Perfect for vacation or people that have plenty of time to wait and wait. The place is so busy they dont have time to clean the restrooms.

  • Kevin C.

Okay first me and my group waited an hour before they sat us, when there were empty tables everywhere. It had been an hour and a half before our drinks even made it to the table. The place was loaded with waiters and waitresses, but somehow everyone stayed angry. The tables around us had garbage and dirty dishes all over them, but the staff couldn't care less. They'd walk up to the dirty table, touch a few things, and then just walk away. Three or four tables stayed dirty for the first 2 hours we were there. The food is overpriced and the portions are small. You wait forever for a small overpriced portion. We got there at 7 and didn't get to leave until after ten. Do yourself a favor and skip this place, go to paula deans instead, and get the buffett.

Not terribly exciting. It's another chain restaurant. Found at the end of River street towards Emmet Park. It's got some nice outside patio seating along the river, which was hard to find. Although, on windier days, it's not that pleasant because it's shady and can get cold. After strolling through the open markets, it's a good place to stop and rest your feet. Typical menu. Food was average. Service was decent. Drinks were colorful, but not very strong.

  • Douglas W.

Ok. First trip to Joe's, and our server was awesome. Our drinks were awesome. Our appetizer was tasty well presented and prepared. Then our entrees came out... Burnt, totally burnt. The entrees were returned and not paid for. The manager apologized. My advice, stick to what Joe's does right... Steamed crab.

Food was very good awesome atmosphere and the service was awesome. Randy was our waiter and couldn't ask for better. We enjoyed our lunch. We are from NY but plan on coming back and will definitely stop in again.

Bland food and way over priced. I would have rather had Red Lobster or Long John Silvers.

Slow service. Terrible wait staff. They had no idea what was going on. They were out of this... No they were actually out of that... The food was sub par. Just unknowledgeable all around. I will never eat here again. No toilet paper in the women's restroom. Server came out of the bathroom without washing her hands. Toilet doesn't flush

Extremely disappointing. We've eaten at other Joe's before and it's been good. We had not been to Savannah in over a year so we were glad to see a Joe's, right on the river. It was a rainy Sunday night around 8:30pm. The place was practically empty. We were hungry. Got seated next to a window with a view of the river. Waiter named Joe took our order and from there things went downhill. We ordered some calamari - the breaking was thick and salty. The rings of squid looked like baby donuts. Clam chowder was so-so. My wife had ordered a crab sandwich but meant a crab cake sandwich. The waiter talked her into a crab cake dinner - "same as he sandwich but no bun" the manager said. Yeah right but twice the price we later found out. I had ordered the stuffed shrimp pointing to the picture on the menu as I ordered. Twenty minutes later some fish platter shows up. Not what I ordered, make it right. Another 20 mins. - it shows up. There was more bacon wrapped around the shrimp than the shrimp. They should call it shrimp flavored bacon! Ordered some tartar sauce - waited and waited, not one time but twice this happened. Slow, slow, slow. The manager did discount our bill a little but we won't be going back. Beware.

The steam pot came out COLD! We complained and the manager herself brought out a new pot, which was LUKEWARM. She said it loses heat as they walk it out... Its a 10 second walk... Also, there is not much in the steam pot! Don't let the photos and commercials fool you!

  • Marta B.

I didn't like this place at all! The only reason we went was because it was pouring and our hotel was across the street. To start, when we asked to be seated outside (under the patio) the hostess gave a big sigh like she couldn't be bothered to take us all the way out. She slapped the menus on the table and left...rude. then we sat there for a long, long time and no one came to bring water or take our order. The tables next to us got served and they sang a weird happy birthday" song and still no service! We finally got up and left and some one finally spoke to us "thank you for coming" LoL!! Go to the Cotton Exchange down the street. ..better food, great prices and REALLY friendly folks!!!

After hearing about Joe's Crab Shack opening I was interested in trying it out. We went late afternoon on a weekday to avoid most of the crowds newly opened restaurants have (and it was pretty quiet when we went). The first thing I noticed is it was *nothing* like the Joe's Crab Shack I had been to on the south side of Atlanta years ago. That Joe's was very eclectic, kitschy, and somewhat dark. This one was more open, bright, and they seemed to be going for a New England style decor. Personally I liked the more kitschy look, but this look was attractive and tasteful. For an appetizer we had stuffers (which were new or a special) and they were pretty good. For the main course we had Joe's classic steampot (snow crab, Dungeness crab and shrimp) with the spicy boil flavor. It wasn't overly spicy except for the corn which seemed to have attracted every loose bit of spice in the pot. The crab and the shrimp were both good, and even the sausage was surprisingly good. Overall the experience was positive. The service was a touch uneven (I was suffering from the corn needing a refill for a minute) but decent overall especially considering they haven't been open long.

Me and the family went to Joe's Crab Shack it in a lovely location but the food no so impressive. Don't believe the hype the portion are small and not that good. They get a A+ for serve and location everything else is a D- at best. I've had better crab at a small mom and pop establishment. Not a happy customer!

Writing bad reviews upsets me in general, I avoid it but this spankin' new franchise smacked in the touristy heaven of Savannah, should get credited for their wonderful sucky disservice. I've never been to a Joe's but my homegirl who I was with, told me that they was also opening one in NYC, and therefore a chain....UGH. but i have high hopes. Everything else in Savannah thus far has been wonderful. The chick who served us must've been on some high shiz.. I want to shout out her name out of spite but I won't. She was inattentive and unfortunately moronic. She didn't pay US no mind and didn't want to get paid as she never came back for the check. I had to ONCE, walk up to her to get her attention And the rest of the time, while she flew around and out of sight, I flagged down the manager to take care of us after voicing our displeasure with this ridiculous service. The food was ridiculous. Ew. I got the maine grill. I saw them bring out the steampots but for lunch, I had to pass. However, I glanced at the tables next to us and realized them shiz don't even look their right size (weeny teeny) so went for the maine grill. Overcooked flavorless lobster- ate it anyways with contempt and without a cracker for the first half, cuz apparently, it doesn't make sense for them to use a claw cracker when eating crabs and lobsters........... I asked for a switch of side (onion stings and snap peas). the snap peas was actually the best. oh snap. onion strigs they forgot and after 30 minutes later, it was brought out looking like limped over battered cheese balls. No onions just battered. ate one, left the rest sittin' there. The maine grill also comes with bacon FAT wrapped shrimp and scallop. Hot sauce will make it more comforting. Take off the Bacon FAT first though. My friend's Red Fish Pontchartrain was overdrizzled with some kind of cream sauce and slaughtered with butter. EW. SHe also got crab dip , ack. don't try that. Anyways, never again. Knock Knock WHo's there. Not Joe. Love the open space and the light lighting though. Pretty space. what a waste.

The best steam pot in town, and their calamari appetizer is superb. Great service, atmosphere and happy hour deals. I am very happy Joe's crab shack made it here. =)

This was better than I expected: the last time we ate at Joe's was in Myrtle Beach and it was a terrible meal. We were only here because our hosts love it. I guess the one thing you can say about Joe's as a chain is that they are extremely inconsistent and the reviews reflect that. They are inconsistent even within a single location. What is the point of being a chain if your customers cannot expect the same quality wherever they visit. I loved the margarita, but the place was so noisy, it was hard to enjoy it. Kids seem to love it here, with the singing and the crayons, etc. To their credit, they were handling several groups, one of which was 35 people, and still waited on us in a timely manner. I had the coconut shrimp, which was fresh and crispy, but the dipping sauce was way too sweet, like jam and no spice. It was an insult to the shrimp. The kitchen forgot my coleslaw, so the waitress brought it out separate, and it was acceptable, and I tend to be picky with coleslaw. My girlfriend had the Cajun Seafood Feast, which was really colorful, and she was very happy with it. One of the children had a steamer bowl. Don't be fooled by the pictures overflowing with food: I was glad a child ordered it because it barely half filled the serving dish. I liked the building better than the other Joe's I've been in: less clutter, cleaner looking. They had a wonderful deck with waterside seating along the river. It's less noisy out there if the weather will allow you to sit outside.

First off Im not too much of a seafood person. We went because my mom wanted to go to Joes Crab Shack and she hasnt been to one in a couple years. We had Destiny as our server! She was so full of energy. We sat outside by the water, it was so cool watching the boats go by. I ordered the surf n turf burger (fried shrimp on it), and I have to say it was pretty good! My mom got one of the steam pots and she was in heaven with that thing! The food was good, service was really good. Next time I am in Savannah I will be going back!

OK. This is my first time at THIS Joe's, but I have been to many others. This one was not up to par. I was with my wife and a friend. We made our order and then about 5 min. later our waiter returned and told us that they were out of my grilled shrimp and my friends oysters. Really?! Now we're told your out? We both made a different order and waited.. And waited.... AND Waited. The place was nearly empty. Why did it take so long? I love Joe's. But I'll pass on this one for awhile.

Service was quick however my food arrived cold. The restaurant was half empty so it's not clear why food sat before being served. Very disappointed and I won't return.

  • Jerry A.

Very disappointed in atmosphere of restaurant, server was disinterested in explaining menu, very surly. Food was not very good, tasteless. This appears to be a tourist attraction on the river with subpar food. Will not be back.

Eat here!! The staff are raising funds for Autism Speaks. Even some of the servers are donating all their tips for the cause. And by the way, the food and ambience are amazing!

Awesome awesome play to have seafood. The service at this place is mega great and everyone is friendly. Although the price is a bit too high.

Had my most embarrassing moment ever here. I told my server it was my birthday, and instead of singing to me like with the three other guests with birthdays, the singing servers told me to stand on a chair and sing my own birthday song to myself. Um?! I have a terrible singing voice and felt like such a dork standing on a chair singing to myself. Nobody joined in or clapped or anything; I only got blank stares. Extremely humiliating. My boyfriend cringed the whole time. Don't tell them it's your birthday if you don't want to take the chance that you have to sing to yourself! However, the food was excellent. We had the appetizer and the Joe's classic steampot. The food is and always will be amazing, but we will never be returning here for anybody's birthday - or at least we'll keep it to ourselves.

  • Bob O.

Can you believe that a server would take advantage of a 14 year old girl? Well that's what happened here. Watch your check and count your money twice at Joe's. As long as this server us there, I won't be! BTW, the food was okay...standard chain store fare. Not worth making a young girl cry by claiming she did not pay a check that she really did.

    (1)
  • Tracy W.

The drinks were on point and the queen crab spicy boil was perfectly cooked. The peach cobbler was meh. I'll pass on that next time but all else was good. The greeters were energetic and our server Chane was very attentive. The patio seating offered a great view of the waterfront and the fireworks after provided a nice finish to the evening.

  • Daniel R.

Wow, best seafood I've had in over 11 years, no lie. The crabs/corn/potatoes in the Chesapeake seasonsing was sooooo tasty. I prefer the queen/snow crab over the king. Wife loved the crabs with garlic and herb seasoning.

  • Michelle S.

Hubby and I went there this afternoon. I read the reviews but I've really wanted to try this place. Well at least I can say we have been here. 1st the place is really cute inside and the wait staff was pretty good. No issues with that. We both got the Joe's classic steampot, really nice presentation until you open the pot. Then there's this waa waa waa sound. They make them look big on the commercials so you will come obviously. So the portions were small. Okay. But then you get the wiff of garlic. And lots of it. It's everywhere and all over everything. They slice garlic and put it in the pot while it steams. So you don't taste the seafood as much as you do garlic. I'm not a big fan of garlic so it was a big turn off. We live here. So we know where to go for good seafood but I wanted to try it. We will write this one off our list. I should have known that if it was on River street we should have stayed away and left it to the tourists.

Wonderful location on river street. Good service, good food. Seafood was fresh. The restaurant is very spacious and clean.

This place is sooooo bad the seafood was like rubber and price is crazy $$$$$! Not only is the food and the service BAD but the noise level is ridiculous!! it was loud just to be loud! It's a shame becuse I was so excited to try this place and what a major let down! :(

    (1)
  • William R.

The service was very slow and to put it nicely a bit distracted. We really did enjoy the food though once it finally got to the table. Over all if the food had not of been so delicious I would not recommend it. Will I go back? Absolutely with fresh seafood like theirs I would definitely give it another shot

  • Jaymes D.

The outside seating is nice especially if you are lucky enough to have a large ship come by and for that I'll give this place 2 stars. The server was polite be he was a terrible server. The sampler appetizer plate was tasty. However we ordered three drinks and two were awful the piña colada in the pineapple shell looks great but tastes like a pineapple flavored slushy from 7-11. I ordered the hamburger with shrimp and I'm confident that it was a bubba burger or something very similar. Unfortunately this restaurant won't need good reviews because of its location and Savannah's high level of tourism. But I won't be back.

Joe's is going to have a lot of competition with other local seafood places, being a chain .... but it is very different than the other Joe's I have visited (San Antonio, Norfolk, Colorado Springs). We visited on a weekday, and it had a pretty good crowd! But no wait for seating. We ordered a steampot for two, and it was amazing!! Even after all the years I've lived near water, I've never eaten crab legs ... I know, I know. I don't like to work that hard for my food, or so I thought -- I am a convert now! The service was great, Suzie was fantastic and kept our drinks topped off. We will definitely be back to visit! I'm just a bit leery of the wisdom of the location ... it's on the not-so-well visited end of River Street, so it's either going to be a big draw, or a big flop. Hope it works out!

Food is great Service has not improved since last years visit. 30 min for a waitress to show up and then she had to make our drinks herself

It was 10 years ago that I went here for the first time. As I was passing through town I struggled to remember where it was or the name but luckily I was able to find it again. It continues to be a fun and enjoyable experience!

Stopped in for lunch today (Memorial Day). Was quite surprised to learn they were out of 3 of the 8 steampots (including Joe's Classic), and any dishes with redfish & mahi mahi. Felt badly for our server, Brittany, as you could tell she was almost embarrassed to go thru the "What we don't have" list. We finally decided and ordered, only to be told they were out of bibs, too! We took it all in stride, enjoyed the attentive service we received and thoroughly enjoyed the snow crabs Chesapeake style and Queen crabs plain. Definite hats off to Brittany, who took what could have been a frustrating experience and turned it into a quite enjoyable lunch! Joe's... with all the other options for seafood on River Street, "ya'll" better get your act together! And do something nice for Brittany! She was your saving grace today!

There was a long wait for a table (party of 10), but the wait was worth it. The portions were pretty big considering the price, and there was no complaints from anyone on our table. We had a couple of orders of dungeness crab, and they didn't inform us until the rest of the orders were coming out, so they replaced it with a double order of king/snow crab for the price of the dungeness. The few drinks we ordered from the bar were a lil on the strong side, but tasted ok. Overall great dining experience. Definitively would recommend.

After seeing Joe's commercials in the area for years, but without one in Savannah, we were very excited to finally try it out. We went for Mother's Day for an early dinner and arrived around 4. We had a 30 minute wait, although there looked to be a few tables open. So, now finally seated and we decided to get the original steamer pot, which consists of Snow Crab, Queen Crab, Sausage, Shrimp and Corn. Our meal came out to us in about 30 minutes, the waitress left and we realized that we had no silverware. After about 3-4 minutes, we flagged her down and she said that they did not have any ready, that they were washing, so in about 3-4 more minutes she finally brought them to us. Food by now was getting cold. But we were able to start on the sausage, shrimp and corn right away. Two pieces of sausage about 3 inches long, 3 really big shrimp, 6 medium sized shrimp, two pieces of corn, 4 small-medium size crab clusters. All of which was covered in a white sauce, which made everything extra slippery...borderline slimy. For around $45, we expected larger portions first of all, and the taste was ok, but nothing to write home about. Not nearly up to par of local restaurants such as the Crab Shack (Tybee Island) or the Shell House. Lastly, our server brought us over a coupon for Mom to get free dessert (remember it is Mother's Day). Once we finished out meal, my wife ordered her free dessert and we also another one for our son. In about 5 minutes she came back and said that the coupon wasn't good for today, it was only valid for 30 days, starting tomorrow. What!? She said "of course" so you'll come back. Well, I don't think so, we canceled the other dessert order and left unsatisfied.
