The food was medicore. Service was extremely slow. Could have been because they were about to close. I will say the margaritas are exceptional! Try the sangria flavored one.

It's been a few years since I've been to Tijuana Joes so we thought we would give them another shot. We go there around 6 pm EST. ordered around 6:10 party behind us arrived at 645 ordered and received their food at 655. Yes I actually timed it. We still had not received our meal as of yet. So we talked to the manager. Only 4 cooks and a large party on the deck. I'm sorry but that's not my problem especially when the party behind us got their food in 10 min. The manager had a major attitude and only compt. The food that we canceled I'm sorry but if a party has been there for an hour and not received their food and are not happy you do what you can to try and make them happy not insult them and be rude. I would think twice before ever eating here. I know my family will never be back. Also the parking sucks. Even one of the waiters that was not out commented to me on the way out that he thought that was messed up the way we were treated.

Don't understand the bad rating. Went there last night and had a good meal. The margarita wasn't too sweet which is great in my book. Mixed the spicy green sauce in the queso and it was great. Didn't love the guac - consistency was like they'd added mayonnaise. Our entrees were good (fish taco and Texan burrito). I'm sure we will be back.

Imma go with an official meh! I was debating between 2 or 3 stars. I think the overall average has it nailed at 2.5. I kinda like the "rustic"/"Alamo" type building. Inside was a little... "Sticky". Definitely needs a good cleaning. Food is slightly below average for "authentic" Mexican. And the Microwave is the oven of choice for sure! I went for the 3 over the 2 stars because I didn't try the margarita. Which the claim as a signature item. I'd consider this more bar than dining.

Wonderful atmosphere, live mariachi band, great salsa, this place goes above and beyond your average 5 star Mexican restaurant. A friend and I came here while I was in town and it's amazing! Pretty loud and kid friendly :)

Problems at closing, nothing but banging & sweeping up around you as the crew wants to leave. Waitress came to get order, bring drinks and give bill. No other time, had to get my own refills. Came in at 8 and service was not on par with what TJ's should be or had been in the past. I'm changing my rating from 1 to 3 stars because at least the owner cares enough to contact me and appreciates critique. I hope he'll be able to improve an established business that we came to like and frequent over the past 15 years.

Love the live music. Food is good, but mixed drinks are very watered down. I have ordered margaritas on last two trips and they tasted like watered down lime Gatorade (G2). Even server said the bartender watered down drinks.

Food: typical Mexican food and quality. They have a welcoming "cold margaritas" sign, and they make good ones too. Service: always friendly an efficient staff. Atmosphere: typical Mexican style restaurant. It can get crowded on weekends, because they are one of only a few authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. Outdoor seating is in the parking lot, but not bad.

Food was okay, but not the best. Came with my family and they seated us in a booth; which was good. The service was timely and refilled drinks. Servers were all huddled around the front area and it is obvious the entire staff is very young. This was our first time and wanted margaritas. We assumed margaritas would be a specialty since it is written boldly on the front of the building. On a Thursday..it is not on the speciality menu. Probably won't go back as it wasn't stellar food or service.

So I gave Tijuana Joe's another chance didn't have a good experience the first time but I've been eating there now at least once or twice a month and I must say Services great food is absolutely delicious and Mara at the bar is wonderful she's a great bartender friendly beautiful and makes you feel at home.... I had the steak quesadillas they were really good would have liked a little more meat in them but all in all from 1 to 10 I gave it at 8 very delicious I think they used a skirt meat which was really good everything was fresh course a cold Tecate with lime always makes it delicious
Service and food were both horrible! The waitress rolled her eyes and treated my party of 2 as is if we were annoying her. She completely ruined my girls night out. Drinks were watered down and the food was overcooked flavorless! Who messes up fajitas really! That's supposed to be the safe choice!

We have been driving past Tijuana Joe's for years and it always as been crowded any night of the week. So my wife and I finally decided to stop by to try it out. We got there and the service was very inattentive and could care less on our needs. We placed our order at 8:20 and by 9:15 we still didn't have our food. By the time the food came we just weren't in to it. We got Fajitas for two and the food was just thrown on the skillet and the shrimp wasn't cooked all the way. After everything we will never return to Tijuana Joes and will tell our friends to go find a better Mexican Resturant

I honestly don't get the bad reviews here. My parents and I arrived and we were warmly greeted by the staff and promptly seated. My dad ordered the TJ sampler which had chicken wings, quesadilla, and flautas. It had guac, and cheese dip. I didn't have my dad's food but he totally raved about the chicken flautas. My mom ordered a salad that was quite large and had tons of guacamole, mango, iceberg lettuce, black beans, avocado. The dressing was sweet and tangy. My mom absolutely loved it. As for myself, I made a pig of myself and ordered a "cup" of chicken soup which was enormous, it was served with fresh cilantro, diced tomatoes and onion as well as lime on a separate plate. I love that little touch! I also ordered the taquitos, which were highly recommended. These taquitos were kind of like flautas but slightly fatter, and had plenty of beef which was really, really good. It was garnished with grilled corn, black beans, and this really good sauce on top. It was very flavorful and just delish. The chicken soup was just perfect for a chilly night like tonight. It had plenty of shredded chicken, and a little rice in the bottom. The broth itself was delicious, but when you add the cilantro and all the other fixins that go along, it takes this soup to another level. I highly recommend it. Again, I just don't get why the reviews here are so negative as I have always had a wonderful experience here. I honestly can't wait to come back.

Love the atmosphere here! Last time we went, there was a band playing at all the tables. It was super busy so taking our order took some time as well as getting our food but overall, it was a good restaurant.

Really poor service, margaritas are watered down , is very convenient the location but that's it! I have given a try in several times but still bad.... Prices are standard with other restaurants but the difference with the others is you may get what you pay for...here not, usually margaritas is the main reason to go to a Mexican " restaurant and always get disappointed here, is pure ice with a "smell" of sour mix

Really bad. This place used to be awesome. Only good thing I can say is the salsa is good. Waitress messed up the drink order and two of the three meal orders which didn't help. I got the taco salad. Chicken could have been cat food for all I know. There was no lettuce in the salad. I a culturally asked for a side of lettuce for my... salad. My buddy ordered the fajita salad and they brought fajitas. When he pointed it out the waitress said "you wanna just keep it and I'll charge the same price?". He said he kind of wanted the salad, she said the same thing again and he just gave in. Other friend ordered combo tacos and they brought wrong combination of tacos. They were LOADED with cilantro. It was really excessive. The beans and rice was really dry and clearly had been sitting in the window for a while. Anyway, this place has gone down hill.

The food is not fresh. I ordered a fajita quesadilla with veggies. Instead of fresh, grilled fajita-style veggies I got flimsy, microwaved frozen veggie pieces (broccoli & cauliflower stalks). How is this place still in business?

Wow, I'm shocked at all these horrible ratings.... But during my visit I can't seem to find one thing bad about this place. I haven't been in years but I SO want to come back and that's a + considering my husband and I live so far away. If I had to be "picky" it would be with the service. (Staff) the hostess was nice but forget the waitress. Hard to get a smile out of her, she might have been having a bad day? But she needs to learn more about customer service. The food however is the best I've had in a long time. I like how they have authentic Mexican dishes vs. the typically crap that's sold elsewhere. I had the Chiliquiles and while the portion was small for the price it was delish! And served hot! :) husband had the Enchiladas Swiss and he gives it a 3 1/2 out of 5, but he too would agree when my dish is a definite 5! Almost forgot! We ordered the Queso Fundido which was amazing as well! Maybe our experience (food) was so good because they have the holiday cook here... Who knows... But I'd give them another shot! p.s. to owner.... Need to loose the techno music and go back to salsa n' such. Much more fitting.

I have been eating here for years! Try the fahjita nachos. Typical Mexican food but good. Prices ok, but this is not high end Mexican. Nice staff, outdoor patio where you can smoke. A nice hang.

This restaurant was so promising at first; waiter was polite and prompt. But my boyfriend and I were seated in a large room with only one other table and the music was incredibly loud. I asked out waiter politely if it was possible to turn it down a bit, and he asked the manager. He came back to our table apologetically stating that the manager had said no! I was really surprised, and it made the entire dinner almost unbearable with a huge speaker blaring and forcing me to scream just to have a conversation. Also, the fajitas I had were bland and mediocre for a 12.00 dollar entree. Anyone who has had great traditional tex mex will probably be disappointed.

Tijuana Joe's was mediocre. While the servers were friendly, the service was extremely slow. The cheese dip was pretty bad and the chicken quesadilla was average. I was a little disappointed, because a lot of people come here. It's really loud.

Well, disappointed with our first experience at this restaurant. I ordered black bean soup which came out luke warm. Soups should be served hot, period. My son had quesadilla which was not that great. Fajitas were ok. All in all, mediocre experience. Would'nt go back. Better off at chipotle, moes or willys.

I went here last night. My daughter waited the entire 2 hour meal(that's how long the food took) for a sprite refill. I ended up having to server her myself. Same for my wife. Never got her second drink. Went with the neighbors and their kids. We all agreed. The service was terrible and the food was cold. In all honesty it was the worst service I've had in a long time. All the server said was "sorry". Well, sorry.. Ill just not come back.

I usually have a fondness for Mexican joints and I'm usually an easy-to-please customer, but this place was an exception. There is a giant sign proclaiming the awesomeness of their margaritas, so the fact that my top shelf margarita tasted like watered down lime juice and sugar was disappointing. The food tasted like something I imagine they serve at Abu Ghraib (think melted down plastic with chili powder sprinkled on top). To make it even better, the server missed the basics, as if she had just gotten off a UFO from Alpha Centauri and was learning what humans do. If you're craving Mexican food and you're near Tijuana Joes Cantina #2, you have two options: A) Take a dump on a roof shingle, throw a jalapeno on it, and eat it. (There's a reason it's called "Tijuana Joes #2, trust me it will taste the same.) B) Find the nearest Taco Bell. Good night, and good luck.

There are a lot of Tex Mex restaurants in the area and Tijuana Joe's is well below average. Both times I've been there the service, while friendly, is very slow and it took 45 minutes to get our food. Pretty tough when you have kids. Food is bland and nothing special.

I've been eating here for over 4 years. It used to be a great place to go to get some food and have some fun. Then it changed to crap. I first noticed it when the menu changed and all the prices went up. You'd think the food would be better but it wasn't. Then the service. Horrible service. Absolutely the worst I've ever had anywhere. We've boycotted this place. Chepe's right down the street is far superior.

I'd say the 2-1/2 star average is overly fair. The food is slightly below average for an average Mexican place. The service was just okay - one order came out wrong and was generally slow. In addition, the table had some previously spilled tequilla on it - we had to ask a couple times to get a rag to wipe it up. On the good side, the house margaritas were good. Probably will not return - if there's one thing in East Cobb, it is Mexican restaurants, so we'll be off to the next one.

Not impressed... The salsa was little more than right of the can tomato sauce. I ordered the grilled steak burrito. It was decent but the sides ( rice & beans) taste like right out of the can. If I find myself in the area again, I will go next door to Taco Bell or Moe's both of which flank Joe's.

Kathleen M.
I've never really understood this place. It's always packed despite the fact that the food is pretty sub-par. The building is one of the ugliest things I've ever seen... I think I'd almost prefer the Burger King that was in this space years ago. I've been a couple of times just because it was convenient, but for Mexican food I'd usually opt for Moe's just a couple of doors down.
(2)
Sarah H.
All I can say is ugh! The food is a bunch of non-flavored glop covered in a mess of cheese or some Chef Boyardee tomato paste. The service is ok but there really isn't any ambiance.

One of the first things I noticed when I walked in was the FABULOUS music! They play such infectious tunes that really just make you want to get up and dance. I even asked my husband to! (no go...). Even HE was impressed. Then, the menu. Contrary to what I thought to expect, the menu was nothing to what I thought it would be. Clearly not your typical Mexican-dish hole, and with a wonderful selection that had me torn and between several dishes, including my ''typical norm.'' But the tilipia was delicious!!! What this place could have improved on in our experience is the attentiveness in service: Our waiter was polite and kind and easy to talk to, however my husband and I had our glasses towards the outerside of the table and really only got a refill once between the chip and the meal itself. Then once more only while he brought the check so I feel that they could be a bit more watchful on their tables. Not to mention, it was a bit slow during our visit so there wasn't much excuse on the floor. But! Other than that! Great music, great and unique food that is sure to please! And they were polite on our way out, even people that did not serve our table! 3/5 stars well deserved!

2 Stars for food. 4 Stars for service. 3 Star Rating. Went to Tijuana Joe's on Friday night following a painting session down the street at Sips n Strokes. We walked in the place right around 11 which is when they were supposed to be closing. They agreed to seat us anyway and were super nice about getting our order in before the kitchen was shut down for the evening. Our server, Greg, was super friendly and patient with our group who had already been drinking. Trying to take food and drink orders from borderline drunk people is never easy. Greg took on the task and got all 7 of our orders in quickly and correctly. Food was served fast. The food was a little cold and just not as good as I remember it being on my previous visits. I will probably go back but I won't go at closing time again.

I ate here recently with my parents and a close family friend and we were all very impressed with both the food and service. We arrived around 6:30 and were promptly seated on the patio. Water and chips were immediately brought out. Our waiter came by and took our drink orders which were quickly delivered (nothing irritates me more than having to wait 10 minutes for my margarita!). I am sad to report that I was not impressed with the raspberry house margarita, it was WAY to sweet! But mom's sangria was delish, so maybe I just got the wrong flavor. Everyone was impressed with the food. I went with two shrimp tacos and a BBQ taco- and that was some of the best BBQ I've had in a while (major plus when our waiter said they make it themselves!). Dad's chima-changa looked good, and he cleared his plate. Mom and the friend split the black bean salad and fish tacos and they were both left with empty plates by the end of the meal. All in all, I was impressed and will be back soon to try a different margarita (and check out their cute waiters :))

I've been to Tijuana Joe's with friends many times. To sum up, if you are in the mood for really good Mexican food, look somewhere else. They recently redid the menu and apparently with smaller portions. The food is mediocre and nothing to rave about. I gave TJs three stars for two reasons. 1- the service and 2- trivia night. I went to trivia night tonight with a large party and our waiter was super friendly and was very accommodating with our ever growing party. He even comp'd me a beer (I'm pretty sure it's just cause I'm super cute)! Thursday night is trivia night, which is pretty darn fun. First runner up and the winners win gift certificates to the restaurant. In sum, go here for trivia night and some margaritas, but other than that, there really isn't any reason.

After a hard days work there is nothing better than kicking back at your local Mexican restaurant's patio section and eating some Mexican and drinking some good Margaritas. Tijuana Joe's does an excellent job to ensure that this need is fulfilled. They have a really friendly and fun wait staff, who jump at the chance to entertain you with a story or funny comment. The food is very similar to any other reasonably priced Mexican restaurant. By the way, what is it with every Mexican restaurant in Atlanta having identical food items in their "combinaciones"?? This location is right down the street from me, so I can practically have a fiesta there and then walk home. Very fun place with muy bueno food, muy bueno margaritas and muy bueno service.

Like Kathleen M. - I don't understand the crowd. Service was awful and took forever. We were looking for a quick bite to eat and ended up there even though not real thrilled with this place and would not of gone had the pregnant girl in the group wanted it. Cheese dip was very good. BUT the Chicken quesadilla I could not eat because bad pieces of chicken. Disgusting! Now I remembered why I quit coming here. Won't go back.... Wishes Rio Bravo was still around. Would love good Mexican... Anyone have any suggestions for the East Cobb neighborhood?

I for one am kind of puzzled as to why this restaurant has so many negative reviews. Every time I go here the food is good, drinks are great, and the service is friendly! I like their salsa its not to thick and tomato pasty like other chains and the chips are fried nicely but not oily and are nice and thin so you can continue to chip and dip and not fill up before your entree comes! The drinks are cheap and strong they run specials through out the week. I stop in here to pregame before I go downtown on Fridays and Saturdays as they do $1 shots on those nights LOL. I always get the fajitas and they always come out sizzling and tasty. I have yet to be able to fault this place despite all the other reviews and I have quite the observant eye having eaten and worked in countless restaurants so I like to think I am not missing anything. If you want Mexican in East Cobb go here over cazadores or el porton.

The service was great! Really really good server on top of her game. The food was not really good Mexican . I had the chicken fajita. It was something I could of made at home. Mexican food thrown together. But it was a cool nicely decorated fun lookin place with a patio outside.

This place has gone way downhill in the last couple of years and would be a perfect candidate for Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. The service, while friendly, was extremely slow and when we finally received our food, the orders were wrong. I ordered a veggie Garden Burrito but it had chicken in it. I then received another one with a shrimp in it. Another in my party ordered the black bean and mango salad with exactly two black beans and hardly any mangos in it. Even when they finally got the orders right, the food was below average, bordering on disgusting. I will not come back here again.

Everytime I have gone to this restaurant I have been satisfied! The food is good some dishes are generously proportioned and some of the appetizers are too small a portion for the money in my opinion. The price is reasonable and it is a comfortable environment. Filled with energy when it is packed. The service is at times great and sometimes just ok. They have interesting entertainment on the weekends and for the most part it is a good place to hang out- I would recommend it.

I ate here yesterday, Saturday, at lunch. We had a group of 5 so we were seated in the front room, which has the ambiance of a broom closet. The service was good. The food was pretty good. The Dos Equis draft was flat. The shredded beef taco was better than the ground beef taco I get at Mexican restaurants in west Cobb. I'll eat here again but will drink bottled beer next time.

Most dishes themselves are rather tasty, but we've decided they get 1st place for Consistently Worst Chips in Atlanta. And often bad service. So even though it's near home, we drive further to go elsewhere.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Mondays are Kids' Night. Same owners as Mexico Lindo which I'm a big fan!

(2)Kathleen M.
(2)Sarah H.

Food, margaritas and service were equally horrible. Our waitress said, "Sorry I didn't cook it." Nice.

(2)Brandon D.
One of the better Mexican food places in the "cheaper" price range.
(3)Rich M.

Just checked the Cobb County health department score, 76, down from a 78 in June. Sorry, not eating here until that improves

(3)Kay P.
Most dishes themselves are rather tasty, but we've decided they get 1st place for Consistently Worst Chips in Atlanta. And often bad service. So even though it's near home, we drive further to go elsewhere.
