If you want to take a time warp back to the 1980s (maybe even earlier), look no further than the Marietta Dairy Queen on Cobb Parkway. This standalone Dairy Queen is old school in every way, from the worn out stone flooring to the small, retro-diner-like booths to the ancient, inoperable tube TV sitting in the corner. The place even smells old. The interior reminds me of my old elementary school. I stopped by for a Thursday lunch and the restaurant was eerily dead. Every time I drive past it, it seems that way. When we entered, there was only one customer eating in the dining area. Throughout the duration of our stay (during a peak business time), I didn't notice many customers, either dining in, taking out, or going through the drive-thru. Unless it was just an exceptionally bad day, I wonder how this place manages to stay in business. This Dairy Queen has not updated its look. It's not one of the DQs with a modern and updated facade. While the other locations were changing, this one looks like it got left in the dust. You kind of have to make a conscious effort to even look for and realize it's there. I've worked in the neighborhood for over 12 years and didn't pay much attention to it until recently. From the outside, it looks like a run down fast food joint, but you know, maybe that old school charm is part of its appeal. I ordered one of the "$5 Buck Lunches." These are a good value and are available everyday from 11am to 4pm. They're essentially combo meals with a dessert. You can choose from a cheeseburger, chicken tenders (3 pieces), or chili cheese dog. The meal comes with fries, a fountain drink, and a sundae. For $1 extra, you can upgrade the sundae to a small Blizzard. That's what I did. I had the cheeseburger, which is made from a 1/4-pound beef patty and comes with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and chopped onion. It was a plain and simple cheeseburger. Nothing fancy about it. It reminded me of something you can get at a local diner, arcade, or skating rink. It just seemed like a classic, All-American burger. The fries were the same way. Ordinary, crispy, and tasty enough. I don't recall ever having a Blizzard until now. It's just like a McDonald's McFlurry (and I love McDonald's McFlurries), except denser, creamier, and the ingredients are mixed better. Like the McFlurry, the Blizzard comes in different flavors such as Oreo, M&M, and Butterfinger. I ordered an Oreo Blizzard and noticed immediately how much better the Oreos are mixed into the soft serve ice cream. Often times with the McFlurry, the toppings are thrown on top with very little to no stirring or mixing involved. The Blizzard has a more consistent mixture throughout. One thing they tell you do with the Blizzards, for fun, is to turn the cups upside down. Apparently, the mixture is so thick that it doesn't fall out. If I had to choose between a Dairy Queen Blizzard and a McDonald's McFlurry, I think it would be a push. The McFlurry is lighter and a bit more "artificial" tasting and DQ has more flavors. As stated previously, the $5 Buck Lunch is a good value. It's certainly filling and over 1,000 calories. I calculated the nutrition facts for my meal and I consumed about 105% of my daily value of saturated fats. Yay.

My wife and I joke and call it the pee pee queen. The few times we've actually went inside it smelled like a port-o-let. My wife loves cherry dip and few ever have it so I called to see if they did. Here's the conversation. "Hello." "Is this Dairy Queen?" "Yeah" "Do you have cherry dip?" "Yeah" "So you have Chocolate and Cherry?" "No chocolate cherry" Then dial tone.

This DQ is close to me in Marietta and I always go through the drive through, I never go inside. I've never had a messed up order but sometimes they put way too many oreos in a blizzard and it's just not balanced and when I ask for light oreos....well there's none to be found, it'd be good to stick to a consistent measuring system to keep customers happy. But another thing, this is an old DQ in need of a face lift, make it sparkle again, it just blends into cobb parkway and is pretty much outshined by the Marietta Diner. Stay away from the fries at this location if you can as they are a miss a lot of times. I've gotten old fries reheated, old fries mixed with new fries, and just old fries period. Overall...it's a DQ. I've been going to Dairy Queen when they were down the street from my neighborhood when I was a little kid and they served hard ice cream. If you want a fast sugar fix, stop in... but if you want a superb ice cream experience... tell me where you went!!!

The ice cream is good with chocolate and peanut. But I think it's better to use peanut without cover. The cream itself is pretty good.

5 Stars for the ice cream - none better than DQ. MINUS 5 stars for the rest of the food. My bacon cheeseburger literally looked like it had been stepped on - it was completely flat. It certainly looked absolutely nothing like the TV ads - no lettuce/tomato/pickles or anything else. Fries were tolerable but no more than that. I did give them a second chance with no improvement. I'll get a burger somewhere else - ANYWHERE ELSE - and stop here for the ice cream.
