Really delicious ribs! Must try if you haven't been!

I stop in here whenever I visit Macon the ribs are good . They give 4/5 bones in the sandwich I am not crazy about the sauce but then you really don't need sauce. I love to see his sons working in the business .

I'm an amatuer BBQ consuier. I travel around te country for work and am always on the hunt for local legit BBQ. Hands down Joe Bear tops my list

The ribs were fan-dang-tastic. I mean, whoagood. For THAT REASON ALONE, I am a fan of this place. The brunswick stew stinks. It's this thin mess, and if you insist on trying it, get the salt shaker ready. The baked beans weren't so wonderful, either. I decided to try the goat, and I didn't much care for it. I don't think it was bad, it just wasn't as good as I'd hoped. The chipped consistency was a little off-putting, I think. Overall, I prefer my BBQ to be pulled or chunked, as opposed to chipped. They didn't necessarily do anything wrong with the preparation of the goat, it just wasn't to my liking. The business is honestly in a shady looking spot in a shady looking area (in a shady daggum town, really). Travel cautiously, and stick with the ribs.

Luckily the best barbecue in town happens to be right around the corner from me. Joe-Bear's & Sons Texas Style Bar-B-Que is located in the historic Cherokee Heights neighborhood. They are situated in a building that has seen its better days, emblazoned with a mural on the side that at first glance looks like a hungry beaver. It took some time before the genius in me figured out it was in fact a bear. What the place lacks in aesthetics they more than make up for with their cooking. The smells of succulent meats waft up to greet each diner as they enter. One can't go to Joe-Bear's and not order the wings. Succulent and smoky they fall off the bone and are easily the best in town. Their combination plates offer the "standard two meat and two vegetable" options. I ordered the slab pork rib and chicken plate. Not a fan of collard greens, I chose potato salad (x's 2) as my side. An order of pulled pork barbecue and a side of baked beans completed our take out order. Upon returning home we promptly dug into the containers of food. The ribs were meaty and falling off the bone. The wings were juicy, smoky and sweet. The pulled pork heaped on a bun made the perfect sandwich. The beans and potato salad were reminiscent of grandmother's tried and true recipes. But the best accompaniment in my book is a frosty Stella. This was food that made you proud to be a carnivore. As we ate I noticed we slightly resembled the mural on the side of Joe-Bear's building. Good things definitely come in 3s at Joe-Bear's... wings, ribs and pulled pork. It's a trifecta of meaty goodness.

So I tried this place again but wanted to work my way through the menu. I got the combo plate so that I could try the chicken & pork BBQ. I'll be honest, I didn't like the pork and I'm glad I didn't get it on the first stop or there probably wouldn't have been a second stop. The chipped BBQ just doesn't have as much appeal to me as pulled pork and the flavor isn't right. The chicken wings on the other hand was absolutely wonderful and holds it's own, no sauce needed (ask them to put sauce on side)!!! So far, I'm a fan of the chicken wings and the BBQ goat is ok (not great) but the chicken wings are #1. I've still got to try the ribs!

I went here once and I will not go back. The ribs I had were very tough, the stew didn't have any flavor, and the beans weren't good at all. I'm not gonna even talk about the rude service I received. Anyway the omly thing I really enjoyed was the sweet tea so I'll give this one star. I'm just speaking the truth.
