Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Ok guys, if you go to Helen, you MUST try this place. A woman at our motel recommended it and we took advantage on a rainy day. The staff is more like family and warm and welcoming. They just act like you are one of the game. Marcus was a gem, but really everyone there was great. I believe it was a Monday, so they have a BOGO offer on the small pizzas. SOoooo, we got to try 2! The Carnivore was my favorite but the chicken spinach one was no slouch. We could see the guys in the kitchen and watched as they prepared food with love and I really think you can taste that in the food. Check it out, have a cold beer or some local wine and kick back in this cool joint.

Bait and switch operation to rip off the tourists. Their website advertised buy one get one free 12" pizzas on Monday. I also saw this in their ad in a local magazine. No stipulations listed. This is why we chose the establishment for dinner Monday night. Well as we were ordering and mentioned the deal, the server told us that that deal is only while supplies last and they were out of that special. What?! They also advertise that they make their own dough so how can they run out of the 12" pies? I wanted to walk out and not support crooks but my kids made it clear that they wanted to stay and eat which is what bait and switch companies like this want to happen. We weren't the only ones affected by this bait and switch scam. The table right next to us had the same problem.

It's hard to find food in Helen when you don't like sauerkraut and sausage, and you're trying to avoid chain restaurants. But luckily we found this place!! We knew we'd made a good choice when you could smell the deliciousness from outside. They give you popcorn when you sit down. Kind of like how places give you chips or bread. It's a cute idea, but the popcorn didn't seem fresh and wasn't that good. But that's the only negative I have! We got The Mess appetizer. Seriously, some of the best seasoned meatballs I've ever had. I just wish it had came with more bread! But then I probably would have too full for pizza. We got the 12in Junker pizza. It was the perfect size for me, my husband and our toddler. It wasn't too greasy. I tend to like thicker not crispy crust, but I still liked it. My husband loved it! Our waitress was very nice and patient with us. We took forever to decide what we wanted. I suggest getting their a little early. We got there at 6 and took the last table. There was a line out the door even when we left and it was a Wednesday.

Great food and gluten free pizza for me! Every type of pizza you can imagine! The popcorn is a nice touch. Worth the trip!

This is a nice looking restaurant southeast of Helen and it's wrapped around a curb as many things are. Walking through the door is like foodie heaven. I honestly thought, "This is going to be an amazing experience." The pizza smell was overwhelming. The guy was tossing some dough as the light from the door pierced into the restaurant and fresh-baked pizza dough climbed its way into my nostrils. The tomato sauce was fragrant. The cheese melting was stimulating. I was so excited to sit down and eat! So, the guy tossing pizzas humbly advised us to "Seat yourself!" We went to the corner inside to sit in a little bit of seclusion. It was a near a TV and I really wanted to be seated in the air conditioning because it had been 82 degrees earlier today and I hiked up to Anna Ruby Falls and around Unicoi lake and then hiked around Helen. I was hungry and a little warm I suppose. A minute or two passed after sitting down and this woman comes in and starts pairing tables together by us. I didn't really mind, but one of the waitresses came over and stopped her and advised her she could not do that because of the fire code. The table she was putting together was right next to the door leading to the outside patio. So, then our waitress approached us and ask if they can use our table to pair the large group together. We had already settled in with popcorn and everything. I was a bit taken aback by this to be completely honest. My wife acquiesced a lot more than I did to accepting other seating arrangements and upon standing I noticed that there were only two options left in the restaurant. One was in between two crowded tables in the middle of the floor and the other was a scary, dark corner near more people. We went outside to the patio and sat away from the other groups outside in a corner with a table without an umbrella. Within 5 minutes it started to drizzle and we swapped to a covered table. We did not see our waitress again after she noticed we swapped tables. We were asked by a waiter if we had had our order taken. Nope. It had been quite a while, too, but I didn't time it or anything. We were already certain on what we wanted to order so it had been more than enough time. It seemed that the waiter was going to be an upgrade. My wife ordered the house salad for us as well as the garlic bread. She also picked out the Junker pizza. I thought of asking about the lemonade, but never did. I was interested if it was homemade. I was curious mostly because they have a big hippy statement on their menu about their bread and how they take pride in their ingredients and "Blah, Blah, Blah." Seriously, that is how I read it. Anyway, I forgot to ask about it and I don't really care at this point because I never got a refill on my drink anyway. There was a couple from Boaz, Alabama near us and they were pleasant enough and probably the best part of the dinner. The salad arrived and it was disappointing. First, it was not fresh. The vegetables were not fresh at all. The waiter said the tomatoes were cut fresh and that is probably true. It's funny, though, because we asked him to put the tomatoes on the side, because my wife doesn't like fresh tomatoes in anything. That did not happen and my wife was very unhappy separating chopped tomatoes from her salad. She obviously couldn't get the tomato juice out of her lettuce either. Finally, this salad had chopped celery in it. I don't understand why this is something they chose to do. It absolutely ruined my palate. The balsamic vinaigrette dressing was bland and lacking any flavor. My wife had the creamy garlic dressing, but it tasted similar to ranch. It was actually decent enough to eat and we paired it with the garlic bread and pizza later on. -Cutting my review to fit- Another group joined nearby and a lady advised us that a bad storm system was about to hit Helen and showed us the radar. Wünderbar! Can I say that here? Ausgezeichnet. The ladies even went inside shortly after showing us the storm system and even announced pretty loudly that there was a storm system coming and they were going to sit inside now. Did that register with any of the employees for us? We were the last group outside. By this time I had more complaints to tally. We didn't have any plates for our pizzas and our server had not checked with us. We had no refills. We had a storm system approaching us and we needed a box to put our pizza away. The sky was about to drop on our heads. I really wanted a check to get out of this awful place. I didn't even want to sit outside. My wife finished her last piece of pizza and I grabbed the entire pan of pizza and went inside. I was about to flat drop it on their bar and ask for a box and my check. Walking in the restaurant the waiter was finally approaching with my water and tried to offer us another table! He even sat it down at a table nearby where I placed the pizza, but obviously missed my blunt message about the box and a check.

Cute little pizza place in Helen. We came here because nothing else was open (it's off season) so unfortunately we didn't get to try any German food or drink beer from a boot. We did enjoy our pizza and garlic bread. You get 5,000 lbs of garlic bread so it's a great deal. The marinara for dipping was fine but adding some of the pepper 'tapenade' to the bread put it over the top delicious. I can't remember the name of what I ordered (something about a treehouse or trees, made it sound like a pizza for hippies). It had mushrooms, roasted peppers and onions, and tomato sauce. I asked for some pesto on the side and put some of the peppers from the bread on my pizza as well. I don't like green peppers and this pizza featured those so I mostly picked the peppers off (I had wrongly assumed they would be red peppers). The BF got the Carnivore and enjoyed it. All and all a good place!

An awesome place to eat! My wife had the Yonah Cuban sandwich, while l had the Spicy Piglet calzone, and we shared a Caprese salad and garlic bread as an appetizer. All the food was fresh and made to order and delicious. Would definitely recommend this plac to anyone. Prices are very good, our bill was less than $40.
(5)Tyler R.
The food here seems to get better and better with every visit. The people are insanely nice, and are pumping out the best pizza i've ever had in Georgia. The sandwiches are still just as long as before, but just as delicious and filling. My regular order of roasted chicken - peppers - ricotta - spinach - light mozzarella hit the spot, paired with a salad (balsamic) and a glass of wine from Habersham just a few doors down. The following day, roasted turkey (half) sub with all the veggies - dry. Fresh, delicious, and it lasted me both lunch and dinner. Best $8 ever. Stay for service, take it to go, enjoy the popcorn, drinks & TVs - but be aware, the word on this place has definitely gotten out, and if you come during lunch or dinner prime time, chances are you'll be waiting. Trust me, it's worth it
(4)Christie M.
Pizza was incredible. Salads were excellent. Service was great. I'll definitely make a return visit the next time I'm in the area. Worth the nearly two hour drive for the pizza alone!
(5)Ken R.
Superb pizza. Crisp, thinner crust and all the standard toppings. Nice size salads and friendly young staff. Had dinner the other night and my "no cheese" pizza was troublesome, but they had another one out fast and it was great.
(5)Kevin Y.
These Pizzas are the bomb!!! Wide selection of custom, white, great salad. Maybe not the best service when really crowded- but good nevertheless.so chill and relax for the great pizza to compete with Mellow Mushroom. You are in Helen so its not the cheapest but does not break the bank.I love thin crust crunchy pizza and got what I wanted. Can't eat pizza all the time but when i do I like it quality and this is what I got and in Helen too!!! Plenty of beer around and lots of choices and next trip, a sub. They look huge!!!! Love it in Helen. Great place to spend the day.

While on vacation to Helen Georgia a lot of the little restaurants close early and are over priced, but this place is open late and is amazing! My family and I got the Tavern plater and a medium pizza and it was perfect
(5)John S.
Pizza is very good. However the service is absolutely terrible..servers are rude and arrogant. .They have fairly limited seating inside and they have a perfect little outside area to enjoy the mountain scenery while you eat..that is if you ever get to go out there.we have been there 3 times and have walked out twice because of servers attitude upon trying to get seated. .will never go back because of this....
(1)Virginia C.
Great place. Pizza is tasty and crunchy, people friendly. We live this Pizza- Tavern! Price is affordable and pocorn is on the house
(5)Anthony G.
Helen is a tourist trap. All of the shops are a waste of time. We went to eat at the place next door to the Village Tavern but it was empty and expensive so my gut told me to go to the Tavern As soon as we walked in the cute pizza guy yelled WELCOME. A nice butch lady sat us down and we ordered way too much food. The sandwiches were Mark Wahlberg BIG. The Hummus Platte was divine and the pizza was outstanding. I was so surprised that a place like Helen has a place like Tavern. The people sitting at the bar could have gotten a makeover BUT I remembered that I was in N. Georgia and what you see is NOT what you get BUT the food here was outstanding and the bloody Mary's which were $4-each were better than True Blood. So stop here and stop here again.

Showed up on a busy Spring Break Monday and the place was packed. Found a spot at the bar and looked over the menu. I settled on a Roasted Chicken Parmesan and a Jekyll IPA...Here's some advice, order a half, not a whole sandwich because they are huge. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked and smelled absolutely delicious. They offer a fully stocked bar including a deep selection of unique beers. My guess is that this place is packed on the weekend, but it's worth the wait to eat here.
(4)Tom P.
Start with The Mess. Great meatballs baked with cheese topping. The Plain is a classic pizza. Thin and cheesy. Tried the roast beast rustica pizza - red wine sauce is smooth. Gotta be hungry for all the toppings. Tavern Combo is a nice sandwich. Get the provolone cheeses option. Place is always busy, always good. Only downfall is the sole restroom.

Just ate supper with my crew here. We had the 18" Carnivore. Each of us devoured our tasty portion. We agreed it was great home style pizza. They have a wide range of beverages to choose. There were hoagies, pasta, salads and more. It had homy feel. I would eat there again
(4)Abby B.
Best pizza I've had in a very long time. We had the tree hugger and I have zero complaints. The waitress was spot on with service. Also even if you don't dip pizza ask for some of their garlic creamy ranch it is unreal. Has local wines and beer selections which I require from a pizza joint. I have nothing negative to say. If I didn't live 1200 miles away I would definitely make this a regular spot.

We went here after reading about best places to eat in Helen on Yelp and Trip Advisor. We went in on a Friday night around 8pm. We are here in the off season and a lot of places close by 9-10pm. They were open until 10pm and they were very busy, which I anticipated for a Friday night. The bar was full as were most of the tables. We waited for maybe 5-10 mins and no one ever approached us. The bartender yelled that there were two empty seats at the bar but that was it. So we finally just sat at an empty table for two. After about another 5-10 mins a guy finally brought us some menus. My boyfriend was ready to leave but I was determined to figure this out. Finally a lady came over and said hello and took our drink order, she had previously walked by us more than a handful of times. We ordered our drinks and decided to get the garlic bread and pizza. The garlic bread was delish! The hot pickled peppers and marinara that came with it was awesome. It was on a nice light bread and yummy cheesy. The pizza we got was a make your own and we are meat lovers so we got pepperoni, sausage and bacon and it was really good. I purposely got a 16 inch pizza so we had left overs for lunch the next day and it was perfect. We each had two slices to take back to the hotel. My boyfriend really liked the pizza and in turn was glad we waited but they would have gotten five stars if the service wasn't such a mess. I would try to go back while we are here to try the sandwiches or something else but I fear the service.

Great food. Had dinner here with my grandson for the second time here in year. I visit every year and Helen has definitely needed a place like The Tavern. The pizzas are hand made and definitely worth the wait. We had a carnivore and a roasted chicken and ripe olives. Absolutely no complaints. The service was great and friendly. She checked on us regularly and kept us updated on our food. I agree with a previous comment, check the attitude and enjoy the slower pace. After all I come to Helen to get away from the got to get it done right now pace of the 'city'. I will definitely visit again this week and try something else on the menu. And maybe a pizza to go for later! Oh, and the fresh popcorn is a plus!
(5)Leslie C.
We had a fantastic lunch here on our way back to Atlanta from Tallulah Falls. Marcus was an excellent server!! Can't wait to stop by again.
(5)Leah O.
Good thin-ish crust pizza. Decent service. The exterior might lead you to believe it's a fancier joint than it really is. The word "tavern" suits it quite well, which is a good thing if you ask me. Our group of 4 split the 16" Carnivore pizza and everyone was full and happy.
(3)Leah K.
Such a gem! It was all delicious! From the garlic bread, the homemade Caesar salad, and the pizza to the beer, I have no complaints. The staff was awesome. Marcus was working his tail off and did it with a smile. It was so hard to not order everything on the menu. Highly recommend this fabulous place in sweet little Helen, GA.
(5)Aimee S.
Someone local recommended this and what a grand recommendation it was! Outstanding little place with fantastic menu - the popcorn they give you when you sit down can be a little overcooked/stale, but the rest of the food we had tasted fantastic.
(5)Kelly T.
We had a great lunch here after we went tubing in Helen. My husband and I shared the Ceasar Salad and he had the Cuban panini and I had the Chicken Parm hoagie. Our kids both had a slice of cheese pizza. We loved that they brought out fresh popped popcorn while we waited on our food. The salad was fresh and crisp and the Ceasar dressing was good; we shared the entree size salad and it was huge. My husband liked his Cuban and my hoagie was very tasty. The chicken wasn't breaded as it usually is in chicken parm dishes but that didn't detract from the taste of the sandwich. I ordered the half size hoagie and it was the size of a full hoagie, in my opinion! Way more food than I could eat at lunch. The kids both liked the thin crust cheese pizza. The service was fast and pleasant. There seemed to be a good selection of beer and wine, too. Definitely worth a try if you are in Helen and don't want the typical German fare.

I was here about a year and a half ago. At that time I had the best pizza I've ever had in my life. I finally got a chance to bring my husband up.to try it. What a major disappointment. First of all they were out of diet coke. Second the service was SO slow... we had to ask to get a refill of my husband's tea several times. Then the pizza..... it was nothing like we'd had prior. We tried 4 pizzas. The Cow something or another, the Greek, the Kicken Chicken and the Cranivore. Other than the overwhelming taste of anchovies on the Greek, everything else was bland and greasy. Even the jalapeños were bland. Such a disappointment. Part of me wants to try it again thinking it was surely an anomaly today. But then I wonder if maybe the other time was the anomoly. And..... you just shouldn't have to try so hard to make a waitress smile.
(2)Linc S.
Sometimes a wait on busy nights, but the beer and food is amazing! Be patient, kick back, relax and enjoy, you're on vacation. This ain't Atlanta or Florida, go with the flow. Weekly specials will blue your mind!
(5)Danielle M.
We walked in and the sign said please seat yourself. Well there were no tables available. So we looked around and noticed a table that looked like they were getting ready to leave. So we waited. Not a single employee acknowledged us until after about 10 minutes of waiting. We told her we wanted to sit outside at the table about to be become free. She said okay. Finally the group left but it was another 5 minutes before someone started to clear the table. As we started to head towards the table another waitress told us there was a wait list. Why the hell is there a sign that says please seat yourself if there is a wait list? And why couldn't the first waitress tell us that or any other employee that saw us walk in and wait? This was my first time at this establishment. Too bad I'll never get to try it as I will never walk into this restaurant again.
(1)Pamela S.
3.5 stars rounded to 4. A homey, welcoming family restaurant. I had a great spinach salad (with a pickled hard-boiled egg)! and a solid portabella mushroom/roasted onion pizza slice. The waitress was a doll.
(4)Jason L.
After a morning of tubing in Helen our group of 20 headed here for lunch. Seating is limited but we were lucky to get 2 large tables next to each other. Our server Amber was awesome. She was quick to grab drinks and popcorn for the kids. Then after a round of beer for the adults she made some good recommendations. Carnivore, Spicy Piglet, Greek and Kickin Chicken for the adults and a couple of cheese pizzas for the kids. Pizza came out in a timely manner while Amber was on top of refills for everyone. All the pizzas were delicious and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Kudos again to Amber who flawlessly handled such a large group. Would highly recommend this to anyone in the Helen area craving good pizza and cold beer.

Friday, July 18... Great pizza, great beer, great service! We sat at the bar, but loved our experience. The pizza met my NY pizza standards & they were attentive even though they were very busy.
(5)Sue M.
They have the BEST gluten-free pizza crust I've ever eaten. In fact, even the gluten eaters said it was delicious....We are regulars at Nacoochee Tavern. The pizza is the best in NE Georgia - and the salads, too. Haven't had the sandwiches cause they contain gluten (darn).... Best to go early, as it can get REALLY busy at prime time...and no reservations.
(5)Frank R.
Ate here over the Helen Jeep get together with my aunt and uncle. Pizza was fantastic and a welcome break from the nearby chain pizza joints. Everything was fresh as hell and they had a great selection of beer.
(5)Brent H.
Dining in Helen is a frightening proposition. Most restaurants in the area serve horrible frozen and reheated German-style slop. Your best bet is usually to drink until you don't care, and then eat a big pretzel and a funnel cake. That's why when my parents were in town for a wedding and wanted to meet in Helen for lunch, I was filled with trepidation. I didn't want to eat this kind of thing sober, and I didn't want to get drunk with my parents. Nacoochee Village Tavern to the rescue! From what I can tell, it's the highest rated Helen restaurant on Yelp. It's basically a pizza place that serves slices, sandwiches, salads and calzones. If you order a sandwich you can choose to have it pressed like a panini, toasted like a cosmo or just served cold like a regular hoagie. You can ask them to turn any pizza into a calzone. Be warned that the calzones are enormous. They serve you a bowl of salty popcorn when you sit down. An interesting choice, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. At least it's something to munch on while you order. We started with an order of garlic bread. The garlic bread is not fantastic. It's dry and flavorless but does come with a couple of dressings on the side--marinara and something that seemed to be a relish made out of banana peppers. We were hungry and the popcorn hadn't satiated us so we ate every crumb. We ordered three paninis and a calzone as entrees. That calzone could have easily fed two people. when they brought out our plates, they had pressed two of our paninis but one of them was presented cold like a hoagie. No big deal, I tracked someone down and asked them to press it. It did take a few minutes though. My panini of choice was the GrandPa Frank and it was pretty good. They loaded it with prosciutto, salami, cappicola and cheese. My wife was less pleased with the flavor of her chicken parm, which she said was bland. I forgot what my dad ordered but he ate it fast so it must have been tasty. My mom, bless her heart, fought a losing battle against a calzone the size of a lunar module. It was loaded with spinach and ricotta and they call it the Popeye. (yuk, yuk!) The beer list is pretty good and they have a lot of options in bottles. They even had Sprecher Hard Root Beer, and after I sang its praises my mom ordered one which she really enjoyed. Service was friendly but inefficient and slow. The food varied from mediocre to good, which means all of it was edible. In the scope of my previous horrendous Helen dining experiences, this restaurant rates 5 stars all the way. But if I'm being honest, it's purely a 3-star pizza place. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat.

After seeing the Yelp reviews, and being obsessed with a never ending hunt for superior pizza, we had to stop here. We arrived at 11:50 and waited till they opened to come in. There were three tables open when we all filed in so we lucked out. This is one of those places where if you are lucky enough to get a seat you will eat with people giving you the stink eye to hurry up or with someone's rear end in your face as they wait around eating popcorn. Or both, as was my experience. We ordered a diet Pepsi and a 12" pepperoni pizza. The waitress informed us the menu was wrong and they serve Coke products. Good news for us as we prefer coke, but the one time we actually read the menu and ask for Pepsi to save the waitress's breath. My husband went to use the restroom, the only one, and it was closed for repairs. It never reopened and we got to watch dozens of people get turned away from it and debated whether this was legal to serve food without functioning facilities. It took 47 minutes for the pizza to arrive. Disappointing since we opened the place. The pizza was ok. I like little pepperonis that curl up into tiny grease bowls, but there wasn't enough of them. Two per slice is not ok. Cheese was good, the kind that takes an extra few chews to break down. Crust had a lot of black stuff on it which hurts the flavor, maybe clean your oven better? Sauce was good with the right amount. Pizza came out HOT. Sometimes you are so hungry you eat it when it's really too hot, and then you can't taste much, this was only working against us.
(3)Cecilia B.
I've only been here once, but it was the best pizza I have ever had. We ordered The Popeye pizza, and it was divine. Cannot wait to return one day!
(5)Victor O.
I tried to make a reservation to be more time efficient only to be told they do not accept reservations. Got there, a 40 min wait - not recommended if you have kids! Crayons and kids meals at the table help to alleviate their boredom. Eventually sat down and waited another ten minutes for our waitress (who was great - by the way). It turned out that "management" got us seated but failed to let our waitress know. Anyway, checking in on Facebook was a bonus because we got a free starter - Duck Tacos, a must have. Food was okay (side of spinach was over salted, however a replacement was just right). The special - veal was very good and the salmon was lightly crispy on the outside, soft and perfectly cooked on the inside... Loved it.

On a brief vacation to northern Georgia, was able to make three stops into the Village Tavern. Due to the popularity in the area, timed all of our visits to be off-peak. First night, met Bob and received the equivalent of a wine tasting as he helped my lovely wife and I pick out a bottle of wine to return with to our room. Great help and advice. Left happy. Second mid-day lunch blew us away. Again, Bob helped with suggestions are we had the most personable server who made our time there very comfortable . Spinach salad, loved it. Get the half, because it is still plenty for two. Slices (extra crispy). I prefer a few more minutes in the oven than most and was done perfectly. Turkey sandwich on house bread - awesome. Bread is a focacia that is close to an english muffin style. Third lunch we brought friends upon our recommendation. Enough said
(4)Seth S.
We saw this place was the highest rated in the area on Yelp. We were not disappointed! We had the caprese and split a monster calzone. Both were great! Service was friendly but a little slow. Setting was fine, standard pizzeria environment. Great family place!
(4)Bret A.
Cute little place to stop in coming or going from Helen. Great pizza and big salads to share. Popcorn on the table for starters. The chefs toss pizza dough within sight of the tables. Couple of TVs to watch college football. Sit inside for a microbrewery feel or out on the quaint porch in nice weather. Great stop - we go every time we're here. Popular with teens and adults.
(5)Jenn S.
My husband and I passed through Helen, Georgia on business and I always turn to Yelp when I'm out of town. Nacoochee Village Tavern had great reviews so we decided to stop in. We were delightfully surprised with how busy the restaurant was. Anytime a restaurant is packed, I feel a little at ease about my choice. The service here was great. Everyone greeted you with a smile & made you feel at home. The pizza we ordered was great, but my favorite was the platter with antipasto, cheese, and meats! I try to recreate it at home all the time -- but it's not the same. Nacoochee Tavern also carries New Belgium products, which we don't have in Jacksonville -- so that was a major plus. I was beyond excited to have a ice cold Fat Tire while visiting.

Came here on a local recommendation and so glad we did. We had awesome service from Amber. And the pizza was top notch and we have high expectations and not did this place deliver. If you like pizza. You will like it here.
(5)Danielle C.
Great, fresh food!! We had the Happy Hippie and the Carnivore. The cheese on the pie was amazing!!! Fresh, real cheese! So good!!
(5)Y F.
Had a large group of 13 here for dinner over Christmas holiday, took 30 min to seat us. Busy atmosphere, loud but you could still hear each other. Our server, Denise, was very friendly and helpful. Food came out fast. Salads were very large, the Aldo salad was very meaty. I would have liked a bit more vinegar in the dressing. Pizzas were thin crispy crust and stone baked. Really good pizza and would go back if in area again.

This place has some pretty tasty pizza. The fact that they make the dough out of Nora Mill's grains make it that much better! Local food friendly and amazing service. Marcus was our waiter for my birthday and he was so friendly and always had a smile on his face! I can't remember the name of the server we had before that, but she was very helpful in making decisions on what to eat! I will definitely come back for their delicious and local pizza! Oh and how could we forget the wonderful wine selection! A lot of local choices on that menu, as well!

You are definitely in for a treat at Nacoochee Village Tavern! I've eaten here with the boyfriend on many occasions, but my very first time was after running a half marathon. All I wanted was good, fresh pizza with lots of veggies and a cold, crisp beer. Let me tell you, that is exactly what I got! Three slices and two beers later, I was one very happy, very FULL little lady. The small town vibe in this place is great. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the clientele are mostly locals, and the pizza crust is thin, and cooked to perfection. To this day, I haven't had a pizza I didn't like, a salad that wasn't spot-on, and of course, how could you not love the free popcorn?? Also, fantastic beer selection!

For the Helen area this is one of your best bets for good food (anywhere else I would probably give 3 stars). The pizza was tasty (although as a pizza snob I will admit the dough was a little flimsy). Service was attentive. As others have mentioned, it is small and busy so be prepared to wait.

The place was busy, and we managed to get the last table without waiting. We were famished, so we were happy to receive the free bowl of popcorn while we waited for our order. I think we may have just picked a pizza we weren't a fan of, but the large chunks of garlic and cheese just weren't what we were looking for. The ambiance is fun, though, and the service was attentive. Space is limited for tables and parking, so get there early, I suppose, and perhaps it's not great for big groups.

Ordered take-out on a Friday night during a long weekend in the North Georgia mountains. Pizza was great -- the crust was outstanding. Loved the hummus in the Happy Hippy appetizer and the mini sticky buns made for a great little sweet midnight snack. However I cannot stop thinking about the spinach salad -- the combo of flavors and ingredients is so simple but so perfect. Will be ordering from here again the next time we're in town.

Best pizza ever. Last year on our first visit we went out for dinner and found out most of the town is closed by 530 on Monday nights!! We had a beer in the biergarten and the bartender recommended this place. We got there and they were packed but we still got a seat. It was amazing! This year we got the "Junker" pizza but took off olives and added mushroom and hot capicolla. Possibly the only combination we will get again. I suggest you try that if you are unsure of what to get. The onions and peppers really were roasted and not just raw and thrown on. I had a margarita on the rocks and it was great too. Hubby had bottled German beer. We will ALWAYS eat here when in Helen. We stayed near the water park/Loreley resort/Innsbruck resort and so it was 5 min or less down the road from us.

Fantastic pizza, fantastic beer selection. Also, be sure to try the local wine! Really an overall great experience every time we go. Great for just a couple, or a big party (which we had the last time we went). Any time we're in town we always stop by for a pizza and beer/wine.

Pizza ok. Service ok. Attitude - nasty. We temporary lost are cabin rental keys and came back to ask if anyone turned them in and they acted like they did not give a damn. You want real pizza try Mellow Mushroom in Jacksonville, FL. Very rude manager.

A great pizza place, with so many great choices of what type of pizza you want. Try the pork there btw Great beer selection, i suggest start at the top and work your way down. (Only if you have a DD) There are tons of tables and and seats at the bar. The bar its self does get very busy. In the summer you can sit outside and hear the river flow by, oh and the cars bikes etc :) May have to be my new Helen hang out

LOVE this place. Fantastic pizza with great weekly specials and quirky waiters. Its definitely a place to feel like where everyone knows your name, but no one really knows you. Ha! Don't miss the garlic bread with marinated peppers. I often get just this as my meal. The marinated peppers are TO DIE FOR. I love anything pickled and this is a mix of banana peppers and seasonings all cut up. So creative and great! I didn't really care for "The Mess" - their meatball - but I love spicy meatballs and their version isn't spicy whatsoever. Oh well. This is a pizza place, after all! We love the Popeye pizza and the Carnivore. The special on Monday is well worth trying multiple pizzas. Gosh, I'm making myself hungry thinking about it... There is a wide beer and wine selection. There are TVs in the restaurants so its a great place to go if you want to catch a game, but are staying in a cabin without a TV. As of 2/17, here are their weekly specials: Mondays: buy one 12 inch pizza get one free, buy on 12 inch pizza get one for equal or lesser value free. Tuesdays: " $ 20 Pie & Pitcher " 16 inch 2 topping pizza & pitcher of Miller Lite for $20 Thursdays: 1/2 price draft beer & all wine. Again, note that either this restaurant or Nacoochee Grill will have a special one day of the week! To save some cash, check on their websites for their weekly specials...

Some of the best pizza I have ever had. Must try the Popeye or just the plain cheese. Very good stuff.

Excellent gluten free pizza (and regular, according to my companions). Also multiple gluten free beers available. Spinach salad was huge and delicious, with hot bacon dressing and pickled eggs. Overall, a winner.
(5)S J.
Excellent pizza (especially the white pizza) and subs. During our 10 day stay to the area, we dine here 3 times and once doing a carry-out.

I had the special for the night and thought it was really good. This place has good food and a very friendly atmosphere. I you are in Helen try it out.
(4)Lyn M.
Just. Yes. Unbelievably good pizza.

Great service!! Pizza was amazing and the meatball appetizer was delicious!! Very friendly staff!! Can't wait for my next vacation to Helen!!

I've never expected to run into a great pizza place in middle of nowhere in GA! I've only tried pizza but other item on the menu looked great too. Hmm, I need to come up with a business trip out there...

after some disappointing meals in Helen's german restaurants, checked yelp and found this place! *damn* good pizza! right when you walk in the door the guys are there tossing the dough and making the pies and they're happy to see ya. the crust was awesome, the sauce was tangy...tasty! Pretty good craft beer selection! Staff was super nice!

After driving mountain roads for over an hour looking for a resort where we were meeting my mother-in-law, I was grumpy and starving. After passing through Helen yet again, I decided to try this place out based on my fellow yelper's reviews. My boys and I chose to sit out on the patio. We were all famished and so excited when they brought yummy popcorn to our table to snack on while we bickered over the pizza choices. The waitress was very nice and helpful. We ordered the 12" pizza half as carnivore (for the kids) and half with the roasted chicken and peppers (for myself). It didn't take too long for the pizza to arrive, they weren't very busy for a Saturday night. The pizza was excellent! Crisp, light crust with high quality toppings and long, stringy cheese. The kids and I ate until we were stuffed and were quickly offered a box for the remaining pieces and our check. We will definitely stop here next time we come through Helen! We also ate at Nacoochee grill next door during our visit. I have to say that I preferred the pizza and casual atmosphere of the Tavern. I'll look forward to trying out their salads and sandwiches next time we eat here!

This place is pure win! I ordered pizzas to go twice during my visit, and ate in one time for lunch. The entire staff are friendly and outgoing. They treat you like you are visiting their home. The pizzas are great, you can taste the care and love! A must visit in the Helen area!
(5)Jim L.
I ate here and took a shot at the Campobasso Sandwich. It was a monster of a thing, weighing in at more than 4 pounds. Really perfectly made and oh so tasty. You can actually see this thing being made on youtube. I didn't eat it all but I suppose I couldn't have. I have also had their pepperoni pizza which was wonderful.

The pizza at the Tavern is awesome! I could be a little bias because I worked here when Paul first opened up for business. Paul really knows what he's doing. The meatballs are the best thing on the menu. Try either the mess or the meatball sub or a pizza with meatballs! Everything is so fresh and delicious. At lot of the produce is bought locally, which is great. Paul always stocks an awesome variety of beer. Usually there is a daily/weekly special. If you live in the area or are just visiting Helen....you have to check this place out. Cant wait for a visit back to town where I can site at the bar and have a nice cold beer and a few slices of pizza!
(5)Gordon L.
This place has great pizza. Been twice and will go back. Good selection of beers.
(5)Bert H.
The pizza's got the right stuff-----we prefer it to Antica Pizza in Atlanta. The ambiance at the bar works ok (wish you hadn't blocked the view of the oven,) but the dining room is dreadful. Upgrade the surface of the floor, and get rid of the awful drywall (antique wood would add much needed warmth.) Absent such a makeover, we'll just sit at the bar and enjoy your outstanding pizza.

Paulie continues to get it right. This is still our favorite go-to place for pizza and sandwiches - sometimes winning out over other places even if we weren't particularly in the mood for pizza(yeah, right - I could eat pizza every day). Great specials, the ever-rotating beer specials, and good staff keep us coming back for more, and although sometimes it is TOO crowded for these local's liking, we are certainly glad they are here.
(5)Bill S.
A cool local hangout with pretty good pizza, well-made sandwiches, lots of excellent beer choices and a "real" atmosphere that doesn't pretend to be in Bavaria. You can get lots of toppings for the pie, and the pepperoni is good and spicy. The wait staff is very friendly,. and the crowd is noisy and seems to be having fun. You can eat outside or enjoy a few outdoor tables. We did the latter and enjoyed the experience, though you can encounter smokers there.

Great pizza... Nice way to relax after a day in the mountains -- with a glass of local wine on the tavern's porch!
(4)Justine M.
We were in Helen hiking for a long weekend - ended up here 2 nights and again on the way out of town. Yes, it's that good! Long wait for a table (we got it to go one night) but it's worth it.
(5)Kat B.
Perfect place to stop after hiking for waterfall views! The beer was deliciously cold and refreshing. We started with garlic bread sticks. This is about a whole meal in itself and perfectly priced! I could have eaten the whole loaf, the sticks were made in a square loaf style, by myself! Yum! Then we ordered a pizza of course! The pizza is thin and very, very good. The only complaint we had, and it's mostly my hubby's because he likes onions on his pizza, was that they carmelized the onions before putting them on the pizza. Onions always taste too sweet for me on pizza but when done this way it was grossly sweet. I'm not sure if that's how it is done up in the East but he likes raw onions cooked on it. They were removable so he still ate his half of the 12". There are cool little signs to read all around the bar but the dining area could use a little romanticizing. Most of the back wall is a huge win rack but the paint and atmosphere are just bland. I'm trying to think about what the lighting looked like but I guess I didn't look. Anyway, it could use some dark textured paint or wood on the walls, something just to make it warmer and cozier in there. Some romantic lights too if that is not what is there. Lastly, though we will go back because it was so good, the bathroom, only one, is shared. I just think "yuck" when I share a bathroom with guys at a restaurant and I understand that there is only so much room but, yuck.

The pizza crust is excellent. A small but well-chosen selection of beers. Nice casual and comfortable atmosphere.
(4)Neal L.
Good service, great pizza...the chefs were hilarious!
(5)Linda S.
The best pizza in the area. When we go there it is generally too crowed for the small dining area; however, the pizza is simply awesome. I just hate when I leave that the tavern smells cling to my clothes like the garlic. Gotta air those puppies out. Great cold beer.
(4)Jennifer N.
This was my 3rd visit and each one has been delicious. I love their bread and the pizza is great. It's not very large but it's roomy. I am working my way through the menu trying everything, My friend even attempted the Compobasso challenge but it ended up taking him 3 days to eat that sandwich. Highly recommend especially if you like great bread.
(5)Leslie G.
Always enjoy the fresh cooked food. Pizza and Sandwiches are really great, you can have them like a hoagie or all squished flat, (not may fav). The wait staff is very good, except, one waiter showed his ass one night and made everyone in the place know he was mad about something. Slamming chairs on the concrete floor destroyed the ambiance. Food good, the waiter will not serve me, ever.
(4)Kily B.
They have some of the best pizza in town! It is a great place to go get dinner or lunch. It has very friendly waiters. It is also a great place to take your kids for lunch or dinner. I love this place! :) I recommend it To everyone!!
(4)Jennifer R.
Great Pizza and Great beer selection. Fun place!
(4)Brenda D.
Cozy place to have a good meal with friendly folks. The salads are fresh and the prices are fair. We prefer the patio since the dining area is a little tight.
(4)Jessica S.
We arrived at about 7:30 and had to wait about 15 minutes for table for four. It's quite small. Totally worth the wait though. The staff is super friendly. We got the garlic bread (which is about half a loaf!), a 16" kickin chicken pizza, and a 12" Popeye pizza. It was all delicious and reasonably priced! It was unexpectedly kid-friendly, too! Though, to my knowledge, there was no kids' menu; any kid likes pizza. Overall: great atmosphere and great food!
(4)R. M.
Wonderful pizza and salads! Creamy italian & balsamic dressing yummy along with a lot of tasty, healthy goodies in salad! Hummus yummy. Can order pizza by slice with salad to be on light side.
(5)Stephanie H.
Great local hangout; the prices are great and the pizza is even better! Inside dining is tight and there is usually a wait, but the staff is very friendly and you can always order up a drink or two at the bar while you wait. The pizza is well worth the wait - I've heard good things about their subs, too, but I can never pass up the pizza when I'm there. Portions are huge!

Great pizza & cold beer. The crust was perfect. Excellent sauce. Clean place & great service. Definitely deserves 5 stars. Top notch pizza tavern.
