Tokyo Shokudo Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Good but not great. Slightly disappointed based on Yelp reviews. I had dinner, maybe lunch is better.

I returned to Tokyo Shokudo and I was pleasantly surprised. Although the wait time is longer than other places (probably because the restaurant has only one waitress, but she has fantastic glitter hair so I can't complain), the food was well worth it! I got the sushi platter for lunch and it was absolutely spanktastic wonderful. Each sashimi was perfect and fresh, and the tuna roll it came with was also good. $12 for perfect sushi is a bargain for me, and I would definitely come back again and again and again!

The restaurant is cozy and nicely decorated. I've been here at least a dozen times and the service is always great. I always get the lunch special, which comes with 2-3 meat options and the standard miso soup and salad. However, they give you more substance in the soup and more than just lettuce in the salad. The dressing is yummy too, though it was better when it first opened. Portions are fair and definitely fills you up. The sashimi = awesome!

I just cannot understand where the good reviews are coming from. Stopped in for lunch with a coworker and we both agreed this was the worst sushi we had ever eaten. We had a sampling of five types of raw fish as nigiri and also had a spicy tuna roll. All of them tasted old. In addition the fish was room temperature instead of cold. The worst part... One of my nigiri pieces was so poorly cut it had loose skin and scales left behind. We were so grossed out we only ate a few pieces each after spending thirty bucks on lunch for two. Never going back.

Small authentic japanese sushi restaurant in a tiny strip mall. It has impressive fresh sushi with a simple menu. I got the tsuki sushi combo. It has a generous amount of fresh sushi for a decent price. The vegetable coroquette appetizer was sooo yummy. I highly recommend it. I haven't tried their rolls but the table across from mine enjoyed their rolls, so I will be trying them next time. The service was kind of slow, but you really can't blame them when it's one sushi chef and one waitress. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. This is the perfect neighborhood place to enjoy a light sushi dinner with a friend. I will definitely be around more often.

I have visited Tokyo Shokudo at least 5 times for lunch and 3 times for dinner, and it has quickly become one of my favorite sushi bars and Japanese restaurants in the area. I almost always have sushi and sashimi, and the freshness, quality, and preparation are consistently excellent. Lunch specials are a great value, including the sushi and sashimi combinations. Lunch Bento boxes are also offered, and the box that I tried earlier this week was outstanding. Tokyo Shokudo provides great value for quality sushi and Japanese food, give it a try.

We have been to Tokyo Shokudo so often that the waitress(June) has learned our names (and some of our food & drink preferences). The place is very small, and as-far-as-we-can-tell, there is always just one sushi chef and one wait-person. If it's crowded, the service may be slow. If you want fast sushi, just go somewhere else. My wife and I will wait all night for some of the best sushi we've ever had. We used to drive 15 miles to Sushi Huku (in it's day, it was the best - but the ownership changed, and the quality dropped). Now we go to Shokudo when we want top quality sushi. We always start with the 'Hana' (chef's choice sushi assortment), and add nigiri and rolls until we have to waddle out.

Serious and authentic food made by Japanese chefs, warm atmosphere, and geniunely friendly service=perfect experience. Really closer to a 5, but I'd want to go more than once to give them that huge honor! Bento came with crispy grilled fish, light hot tempura, fresh sushi, and seaweed salad (also ginger salad and miso). They have a great sake menu, and passed my first litmus test: undied ginger. It feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, but only a few miles from Jeju/Fry's or Super H Mart. This is my new fave place in Duluth! Cheers~

Came here just before closing and had the best sushi I think I have ever eaten. Staff was so friendly and attentive and the sushi chef was very friendly as well. Would definitely come back.

Really great sushi! The server and sushi chef were awesome and very sweet! The rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll and bagel roll were delicious! We also got the octopus appetizer with vinaigrette that was good. Miso and hot sake were treat as well! Thanks!

Hands down the best sushi in town! Just driving by you might miss it because it's almost a hole in the wall. They serve authentic japanese dishes unlike all these other "japanese" restaurants around. The sushi and sashimi is very fresh and sooooooo good! This place is really small so get there early and don't miss out. The staff here are very friendly as well and the owner remembers you which is pretty cool. If your in the mood for sushi or japanese this is the place to go hands down.

Saw Katsu Curry on lunch menu and had to try...it was great! Big portion and yummy. We have tried Okonomiyaki, Menchi katsu and Katsu don...can you tell we are here for good old home cooking meals? Wish they had those for dinner though.

A little known place on PIB. It's a hole in the wall, but the food is fantastic, service is great. It's been a very long time since I've eaten Ramen in the states and recall Japan in a positive way. The food is seriously delicious. It's kind of hard to tell from the outside, it's in a small shopping center next to a hookah bar and chicken wing place but don't let that fool you. You NEED to try this place. Only bad thing about this place? It's only 2 miles from my house. I'll be struggling not to eat here 3 or 4 times a week. Their sushi and sashimi is good, their hot dishes are very good. Prices are good for what you get. On a side note, this place is a Japanese restaurant, owned by Japanese people, food made by Japanese people. I know this may not seem like a big deal to some, but I don't go to "Japanese" restaurants that aren't owned/operated by Japanese. It's just not authentic and there is a difference. I'm Korean/Chinese and my wife is Japanese. So no, it's not a race thing, it's just reality and what it is. All in all, go check this place out. I'm a major foodie and don't except substandard food quality, authenticity and value. You won't regret hitting the place up.

My sister and I decided to stop in for lunch today. We were not disappointed. She had the spicy tuna roll and shrimp fried rice. I had the california roll and veggie fried rice. Very good! Our server was nice and very attentive. The only negative will be if you are with a large party. The place is not that big.

  • Helen P.

This is a small hiddden sushi joint for those from the northern metro Atlanta. The sushi is far superior than the average raw fish stop. A small Japanese sushi master stands behind the sushi bar, this place is his pride and joy. The fish truly melts your palate. I recommended the scallop sashimi, the mackerel, the salmon, and everything else on the menu. The only negative point is the wait for your food, as there is just one sushi chef.

Really torn about how to rate this place. My first experience was really great. I came in for dinner and got one of the chefs pick sashmi platters and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't too crazy about any of their rolls. My second experience today was for lunch, and I ordered the sashmi plate for $13. Maybe I should have expected less because of the price, but the fish was not as fresh as my first visit. Both pieces of my tuna were flavorless and still partially frozen. I probably won't be coming back. I'd rather make the drive to rosewell, pay a few more bucks, and go to circle sushi.

Got introduced to this place by a fellow foodie, and since i pass by it almost everyday, decided to give it a try. Small restaurant, i think a 2 or 3 person operation. Hasn't been super packed the last two times I've been, so I'm definitely not complaining. I like small restaurants. We went in an wanted some quick sushi, so me and the wife ordered some Spicy Tuna Rolls, another specialty roll and our classic Volcano roll. Everything was delicious, but super super spicy, so beware. We shall try it one more time and ask them to reduce the spice some and we'll see how we like it then! Love it nonetheless.

Tokyo SHOKUDO is a hidden Japanese gem in Duluth that can satisfy your craves. This is one of the very few authentic place that know what they're doing. Owned by husband and wife, but their quality is top notch. Often had Japanese chefs and natives came in for food. If that doesn't tell you, I don't know what. The fried dishes are super good: Chicken Karaage is my fav. Also, all the a-la-cart sushi is mouth watering. Splurged ourselves with the Toro....omg, i'm craving as I'm writing this review. FYI, service can be slow if busy, given everything is freshly made, not pre-made and microwaved like most other Japanese places around (especially the cooked food).

Over all great experience . The rolls are extremely good (trust me roll was fantastic), small place with very friendly staff . We will be back for our sushi roll cravings . Definitely give them a try, not bad for the $$

Recently tried a bit of my friend's curry katsu don last night - they made it as a special request and I am super grateful for Tomoko-san for the extra effort. The katsu kare was amazingly delicious and the closest thing that I have found to what I ate in Japan 6-7 years ago. Sauce: - not to watery, not too thick - not too flavorful (as in evenly mixed) and not too bland - good sized portion of pork cutlet - fair share of rice. - great flavors - awesome contender for lunch - $10 but I think it is worth it given its authenticity for taste. ごしそさま!

Food: 3.5 stars, Sushi 3 stars, service: 4.5 stars, ambience: 3, price setting: 3. This is a difficult place to review. People who work here are so nice, I really tried to like this place, but their food has hits and misses. Their sushi... As much as other Yelpers say their sushi is fresh and delicious, mine wasn't. I ordered a combo sushi that has nigiris and makis. Their raw fish was dry, stale, chewy, and not shiny. Their makis weren't properly rolled, and they fell apart at the seams of nori when I poked on them with chopsticks. If I had sushi like these, I wouldn't order anymore for more disappointments. Their general food... Their miso soup and salad with ginger dressing are good and refreshing. Ginger pork was good... It's a hit, But katsu curry don was a miss. Curry sauce even didn't have any meat chunks or veggies in it, and it was poured over the chewy flat katsu as if curry sauce came out from a pre-made pouch. Sorry, this is not a substantial nor satisfactory katsu curry in my book. Some Yelper mentioned that the kitchen food comes after the sushi if you order a combo, so maybe they are short on cooking staff. Ambient: it's a small joint and set up like a Japanese dinner or so, so it's not a spacious, relaxing, and enjoyable ambient. I can't relax sitting at the seat right by the hallway where people constantly walk back and forth for the bathrooms and waitress pass by from the kitchen to drop off food. But it's probably good for people who want a quick lunch and go. I don't think they have wi-fi. Service: Again, people who work here are so nice. It can be worth a try or explorer their new dishes I haven't discovered. But generally, I become a regular of restaurants who can serve all great dishes at any given time. I don't want to gamble my money on hits and misses.

We got here around 8:50PM on a Tuesday night. A friend mentioned it in passing saying it was solid sushi for a decent price and my friend and I happened to be in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, there were 2 other tables eating and we were told that there was no more sushi rice. If we wanted any rolls or nigiri, we might have to wait. Whatttt. Ok. We ordered salmon, tamago, sweet shrimp, uni, and toro (all nigiri), a spicy scallop roll, and assorted tempura. Everything was really good. Tempura was nice and crispy and hot/warm upon arrival to our table. They gave us each our own sauce to dip in (thankyouuuu). Sushi tasted decently fresh and the uni was so unexpectedly good that we got another order for the each of us. Toro was just ok. Meh. Sweet shrimp was also on point. They give you the shrimp head tempura battered and fried (no extra charge, I know some places do that). Service was excellent and they did not rush us at all to leave. Definitely will return and definitely will recommend to others. I'm a little bit reluctant to recommend to my friends only because I don't want it to get super busy (jk) but of course I will. Seems like a mom and pop shop and I'm always an advocate of supporting small businesses. For the price point, service, and quality, def worth a visit!

I love this place!! The chef is always such a nice guy who also makes the best Sushi in town! (You know it's great sushi when the majority of the foodies are older Japanese people). What we love to order... Seafood salad (sashimi salad) is always on point! Bento box - a great deal with your choice of meat and rice, tempura, nigiri rolls, and sashimi (great bang for your buck) Spicy tuna rolls - his extra twist with sliced up jalapeños on top of each roll just makes this dish so addictive. Overall, It's always worth a trip to dine at this restaurant! The service, food, and family feel of the restaurant will completely win you over.

Just okay for me. Server didn't know what was on the menu. That was interesting. Food was tasty but veggie rice was a small portion for 8.00. I at least want the rice to cover the bottom of the bowl. I got raped on that one. Sushi was good. My daughter and I left hungry. 35.00 bucks later and we had to stop by Taco Mac to split a single order of wings.

I was disappointed at this place. First of all the service was very slow. I ordered bento box, and got the sushi and sashimi part first. The hot foods (salmon and tempura) and rice didn't come until 15 min later. Second, I am not sure if I got salmon. It tasted and felt more like steelhead trout. Third, the tempura sauce was too salty, and the sauce on the salmon was missing "something." Fourth, they have limited variety of dishes. I'm sorry but I would not call this place an authentic Japanese restaurant. Now there are some positive points to make. The sushi and sashimi were very good. Miso soup was very tasty. Also fried chicken (tori no tatsuta age) we ordered from appetizer menu was pretty good. Even though the service was slow (cooking took so long), the waitress was nice and she did her best. So if you are looking for a place to have some appetizers and sushi, I think this would be a wonderful place. However if you are looking for other Japanese dishes, you may be disappointed like I was.

We love Tokyo Shokudo! They have legit sushi and the service is incredible. We have many options for sushi in Duluth and we end up here every time. I love the caterpillar roll!

We came in this place for lunch because we need to return something in Home Depot, I ordered sake Ikura don, sushi rice in the bowl, salmon and salmon roe on the top, it costs $13.00 but they only offer 4pieces of salmon and it's very thin, my husband ordered ramen, he said only one slice of pork and half of egg on the top, soup taste like cup noodle you can find in grocery store. We will never go back this place again. Just worse your money.

  • Alice S.

I like the smallness of this place-- it's not too noisy and loud and gives a feeling of coziness even when it is empty. Pricewise, the sushi here is about on par with Haru Ichiban a few miles away, but I'd say their fish is better quality and their sushi better put together. They have a few decent lunch specials, but I was disappointed that their curry is for lunch only, and that they have stopped serving Okonomiyaki entirely.

This is a small local restaurant with an authentic Japanese sushi chef who takes pride in his creations. Has fresh seasonal fish deliveries on wed/thurs so, thats the best time to visit for toro, hamachi, ama-ebi...etc...the really good stuff. Been going there for over a year, we have not been disappointed. A bit on the high side, but you are getting what you pay for.

This is a real Japanese sushi place. I know other business pose to look like its Japanese style but it's not. This place actually has a Japanese sushi chef and the food is traditional. I definitely recommend it if you're look for real Japanese sushi.

I've only been here for lunch so I'll have to update my review after I come back for dinner and/or sushi. Restaurant is located next to Deja Vu lounge in a relatively small shopping center. Very small and cozy restaurant, which is owned and operated by Japanese. Food, service, and prices were great! Tonkatsu Ramen - delicious!! I love the noodle here more than Umaido Katsu Curry - huge portion and very yummy

Actually, I really don't know how to describe my night here. One word for everything... HORRIBLE! I've tried better rolls at other sushi restaurants.. this is by far the worst I've ever tasted! I was really bummed, too, because all the reviews I read for this place really impressed me! I guess people don't know the real taste of sashimi (raw fish) and sushi. This place made me really really mad!! First of all, my parents had ordered the Sakura (sashimi section of the menu $30.00). Our waitress, Demi didn't even mention the "special sashimi" until after we got our meals which was just horrible. The fish tasted horrible.. it had a very fishy taste and fresh sashimi isn't suppose to taste like that. It's suppose to taste like clean, ocean taste and very refreshing. But the sashimi was a BIG disappointment!! We told Demi that not only the sashimi had a fishy taste but also the Spider Roll that my siblings had ordered. I tried one roll and I felt like I was going to puke (YES! It was THAT BAD!!)!! And then, my Ikura (Salmon Roe) nigiri sushi (2 pieces : $4.50 each) and Tuna nigiri sushi came out. They tasted ok.. much better tasting than my parents' sashimi. I really thought that that wasn't fair of the Sushi Chef to use different sashimi meat. He should've used the same fresh sashimi for our other orders as well. This was not right. But the Takoyaki (appetizer: Octopus Balls which is basically tiny pieces of octopus in a batter that they deep fry in a circular frying baking dish and it comes out looking like small balls.) tasted much tastier than the other food we ordered. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, because the sashimi, sushi and rolls... ICK!! All of them tasted bad.. had a very bad fishy taste!

Ate here for lunch with family and had a good meal. The server was friendly, accommodating, and very helpful (and honest) about the menu. There was no wait, which was perfect when you're trying to get back to work! Onto the food: -the salad dressing was too oily -the miso soup was served hot and miso-y -the chirashi don was delicious- the quality of the fish was very high and the presentation was nice -sushi-combo was fresh and tasty Note: The portions aren't huge here. I'm impressed by the quality of the fish and will be coming back!

Upgraded to 5 stars. This is officially my favorite sushi place in the area. We got most of the same rolls as last time, with one exception -- we swapped the spicy scallop for the spicy tuna. We also got a side of spicy mayo and an order of vegetable tempura. The rolls were just as good as last time, if not better. The spicy tuna roll wasn't nearly as spicy as the spicy scallop roll, but it went really well with the spicy mayo we had on the side. The vegetable tempura was amazing. Not too much breading, just a light coating. It included green beans (my fave), sweet potato, zucchini and green peppers. Delicious.

Wow, surprisingly good sushi in a very inconspicuous hole-in the wall next to a hookah joint. Who knew! I had the tuna tataki and yellowtail jalepeno as appetizers. While the tuna was good, the yellowtail was succulently excellent. Service was attentive; there's only 1 server as far as I can see. It's a very small place with about 12 table--top, so the food will come out a bit slow. I understand that so I'm not going to dock a star for it. The rolls are smaller than what I am used to but the quality is very good. I was with my nephew and sister and had mostly cooked rolls. The Rock-n-Roll, Spider, and Spicy Tuna were good but I wish they were a bit bigger. I will definitely try out the sashimi next time since the quality of raw meats seemed fresh from the appetizers.

  • Sunira M.

I came here for the lunch on a weekday and wound up ordering their sashimi plate. The service was really good but the time for the food to come out was a bit slow. The waitress was really fun to chat to and has AWESOME hair. The sashimi was fresh, flavorful and I really enjoyed my dish. My lunchmate got a noodle dish and didn't enjoy it as much. Either way we had a good time. It's a nice place to for lunch! Maybe I'll try it for dinner sometime!

  • Steve S.

I've been here several times. The chirashi and katsu curry were excellent; in particular, the katsu curry might be the tastiest I have had. On the other hand, the spider roll was so so. Also, I tried the tonkatsu ramen and it was also not as good as Umaido which is already just only decent. I wish miso soup came out instead of salad. The service is good and the waitress is friendly and professional. I feel 3.5 stars would be a more accurate rating but 4 stars it is. Updated: inari was not so good last time but much better this time.

My sister and I were in the area today and needed a sushi fix. Yelp pointed us in the direction of Tokyo Shokudo. We were the only ones there for most of our visit, so the service wasn't as slow as other people have pointed out. I had a small sashimi plate and a piece of toro nigiri, and my sister had a couple of rolls and some toro as well. I tried a piece of the spider roll and it was fantastic. The toro was a generous portion and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The sashimi had huge pieces of yellowtail, tuna, and salmon. The wasabi was not the spiciest I've had, but the ginger was. Our waitress was super nice, sweet, and attentive; my drink was never below half full.

  • Michael C.

I went on a Saturday night and there was only 1 sushi chef and 1 waitress working entire restaurant. Needless to say, the service was slower than what I'm used to, hence the 1 point deduction. However, the quality and freshness of sushi is very good and the nigri portions are larger than other sushi restaurants so this this place deserves nothing short of 4 stars. p.s. - For large groups, prepare to wait for your entrees! Personally, I don't think this restaurant can accomodate groups of more than 8.

I just moved into the area, I was looking fo ra quick bite and I stumble upon this little place. It was almost empty but after a few minutes some other tables arrive. Seems like family owen and operated. It's a great lunch option, prices are good and food is Good. One chef one waitress but really nice and accomodating.

  • Tim P.

Absolutely amazing. The waitress was very helpful when we arrived and was very patient when we had no idea how the menus worked. The waitress did have an accent and explained in monosyllabic words but it was enough for us to comprehend. The sushi was impeccable and didn't take long to arrive after we had placed our orders. The ONLY downside was that our Ikura roll came out a little slower than the rest but other than that, the entire experience and meal was amazing. The Hard Rock Roll was my favorite.

  • Gen L.

This place has really, really fresh fish. I had the rainbow roll and the salmon, yellowtail, and tuna nigiri. The waitress was really friendly. But, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There was only one other couple there besides us. We will definitely go back again.

Awesome sushi, amazing service. Compared to anything we've tried in Georgia, this place tops all! We tried California roll, spicy tuna roll, Philadelphia roll, spider roll, gyoza and salmon sashimi. All amazing. The artistry of the food was also impressive. Will definitely be back!!

  • Maxwell L.

Came here for lunch one day and ordered an oyakodon and sushi combo. The chicken was under seasoned and rice was extremely dry and hard. I was able to stomach the chicken but could not handle more then a few spoonfuls of rice. The fish for the nigiri was almost tasteless or it could have been the ratio of fish to rice was way out of proportion... I won't be returning but I could see how people looking for Japanese food and unwilling to drive could stop by here.

This place has a great atmosphere and the service was good! The tempura was amazing, by far my favorite roll out of our selection. Great quiet and clean place for a date. The water tasted strange but it didn't make me sick and I had a couple glasses.

Tokyo Shokudo gets it wrong on a myriad of levels. I went with a group of four on Friday night. We arrived at 7:15. The place was moderately busy at about 70% capacity. We were promptly seated and placed our order. I noticed at this time that there was only one waiter and one sushi chef on site. The temperature inside felt about 78-80 degrees, a little on the warm side. We receive our beers quickly and apps after about 20 minutes. Not speedy but acceptable. The shrimp tempura was tasty and fried to a perfect golden hue. Edamame and miso soup were decent. Here is where the meal goes downhill. It takes 40 more minutes to receive 2 of the 8 maki rolls we ordered. Upon arrival I immediately noticed the sushi rice had that translucent color, mushy texture, and tight-packed rolling that is usually only found in grocery store sushi. Tasting confirmed the inferior quality. Nevertheless, being one hour into our meal, we were hungry and quickly gobbled these two rolls. I'm starting to get worried that we will run out of time before our next engagement. We order another round of beers only to have the waiter inform us that they have run out of the Asahi Beer we were drinking. We accept an inferior substitute. We wait for 30 more minutes. So 1-1/2 hour in and still no sign of our food. At this point I inform the waiter that we must leave unless he can assure us that the remainder will arrive in 5-10 minutes. He apologises profusely and says that last week they had more staff but very few customers. This week they pared back in anticipation of another slow night. He says the chef is working on our order but has no idea as to a time frame. We decide to settle the bill. The waiter charges us for the beers and apps removing the rest of the order from the bill. I'm okay with that. The waiter was nice enough, just overworked. I just want to get out of here so I can get some fast food! I'm puzzled by all these other great reviews. Fake maybe? This restaurant fails in these critical areas: inventory(beers), sushi prep(rice), short staffing, long wait times, and ambient temperature. I shall not return. Ever.

Came for lunch on a whim, was not disappointed. Authentic, delicious, and a GREAT value. I had the hamachi kama lunch special with soup, salad, rice and seaweed. Absolutely perfect, definitely matched up with the quality of Shoya Izakaya. (only 12 bucks too!) This is a tiny restaurant, so the problems with service and inventory make sense for the other reviewers. For lunch, only 1 server and 1 chef were there. I can imagine that slow nights make them hesitant to bring in too much staff or hold too much inventory, creating shortages. Anyway, I was there when it was empty, so the service was excellent. Will definitely make this a weekly lunch spot from now on.

Best sushi in Georgia...hands down! Tokyo Shokudo is a diamond in the rough! I would give this place 10 stars if I could! This place is a small local restaurant located in a small shopping center off of peachtree industrial. But don't be fooled. This place has it all!! Great authentic Japanese food and very friendly Japanese employees. My first time visiting the food was O-MAZING! The rolls we ordered were delicious and the sashimi was presented beautifully at the same time not compromising the taste. I have to express how surprised I was when our server brought our sashimi. It seems as if Tokyo Shokudo doesn't believe in small portions. The sashimi pieces were HUGE! I loved it! Definitely worth the drive and money! I can't wait to go there again!

This place is recently opened by Peachtree Industrial Blvd. in Duluth. They are next to DejaVu Hookah Lounge & Cafe. It was a cozy and neat place. Workers were very friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and price is very reasonable. I had some real crab meat Tempera. Crab meat Tempera is normally very hard to find. I know there are lots of places use imitation crab meat for tempera. There were variety of sushi and dinner menus. I will definitely going back again!

Recently I have been trying other places just to see if anyone could dethrone the champ, but I can only say that this place has gotten even better with each new visit. I thought it was impossible but as I have gotten to know these people they have become even more friendly than before and their service is still impeccable. The other day they even had a california roll 8 piecenigiri special for 22 dollars that included toro, uni, white tuna, and kinds of other premium fishes. I really love this place.

went here for lunch on a weekday. it was fabulous! great deal for a sashimi plate. and the quality was SUPERB. not to mention the quantity was plentiful! I'm extremely picky with my sashimi. my fish needs to be absolutely fresh, vibrant in color, and be cut in the perfect, thick slice. the chef did just that. i also had the teriyaki giant squid dish and it was excellent! soft, tender, and flavorful. my mom had the bento box lunch deal. she thoroughly enjoyed that. And from what I could see, the tray of food looked delicious. I haven't gone in any other time, but I definitely recommend cashing in on that sashimi (or sushi, or combo!) lunch deal. you won't regret it. not to mention the waitress was very kind, attentive, and made great conversation. you should go!

Visited with my family this evening and what a treat! The owners and wait staff are friendly and accommodating, and the food is delicious. I'm not a sushi expert, but I can say there was something very different about this sushi - it was incredibly fresh, the rice was moist and flavorful. We tried a an assortment of appetizers, the dumplings and wasabi pork dumplings were especially yummy. Polished off the meal with the best green tea ice cream I've ever had. Even if you don't live in the Duluth area, it's worth the drive - we drove up from Buckhead to try it and will gladly come back again!

This review is based on one visit, so I would advise the reader to take it for what it is. I have to be honest, I have a very particular idea of what I consider is good Japanese food. Though some may consider these signs of what they like a yummy Japanese food, the following are what I consider as poor Japanese food: if your sushi is doused in eel sauce, spicy mayo and/or any other pungent flavor - it is poor Japanese food; if your entree is salty and has a strong dark soy taste - it is poor Japanese food. Tokyo is none of the above, the sushi/sashimi is just good (not great) quality seafood for the price, it is served in a clean establishment with no fuss. Couple of dishes I had and I would say they did a good job so - vegetable croquette, not greasy, just simple veg croquette. Salads are light and refreshing with a mild ginger dressing (none of the creamy stuff), and the miso soup is mild and yummy. I will surely be back, but they do need to work on little things in service like the wait staff being educated on the menu and having the food come out at the same time.

Great Japanese food tucked away in a strip mall on PIB, next to a hookah bar. We were hooked after our first visit and have been back several times. It has become our go-to sushi restaurant.

Came to this place on a whim because my boyfriend and I were craving sushi. We didn't know what to expect because it was located in a random shopping center next to a tax office and such. Either way, we were definitely glad we stopped in. The service was great and our server was very friendly and helpful. I got cooked rolls that were really good, but the sashimi that my boyfriend ate was amazing. He said it was some of the best he's ever tasted in Atlanta. I love that this place is authentic and cozy. Definitely can't wait to go back again.

Have been several times now and each time has been great. The Japanese team here treats each order with attention to detail. Very nice to find some 'hard to get' items along with reliable mainstream fare. Plan to return repeatedly! Please visit to support this Japanese Gem.

Really great sushi here! The rolls are large and delicious but be warned that the dynamite roll is extremely spicy, more so than any other place I've had it. Still, it was excellent and I can't wait to try other rolls. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back again.

Stopped in here for dinner tonight and was very impressed! In summary, service was excellent and so was the food! Details below: We arrived just about 7pm on a Wed and were happy to find the restaurant clean, not crowded and with nice modern decor. After choosing a table, we were greeted quickly and when our waitress returned with drinks she also brought 2 small bowls of a marinated seaweed & vegetable salad which was really good! We ordered a spring roll appetizer and two sushi rolls. It turned out that they were out of something for the spring rolls but our waitress who was very apologetic offered a suggestion of Shu-mai (sp?) which we actually ended up liking more than most spring rolls! Our sushi came out as soon as we were finished and was so good! Fresh ingredients, good portions, nice presentation and reasonable prices! If you are looking for sushi that looks like art, this place is not for you. If you are looking for delicious food at very reasonable prices, this IS your place! Tokyo Shokudo is fairly new (opened Feb 2011) and is located in a small strip of stores just south of Howell Ferry on Peachtree Industrial. This is a new favorite hidden gem- we will definitely return next time we're in the area!

The place doesn't look like much from the outside and first appearances might turn many off. But the sushi--oh man--the sushi. It's right up there, consistently, with the best I've ever had.

ごしそさま!

Really great sushi! The server and sushi chef were awesome and very sweet! The rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll and bagel roll were delicious! We also got the octopus appetizer with vinaigrette that was good. Miso and hot sake were treat as well! Thanks!

This place has really, really fresh fish. I had the rainbow roll and the salmon, yellowtail, and tuna nigiri. The waitress was really friendly. But, the restaurant wasn't busy at all. There was only one other couple there besides us. We will definitely go back again.

Cheers~

  • Yen N.

Saw Katsu Curry on lunch menu and had to try...it was great! Big portion and yummy. We have tried Okonomiyaki, Menchi katsu and Katsu don...can you tell we are here for good old home cooking meals? Wish they had those for dinner though.

Good Sushi and Sake for price and local! Good people! Very Authentic. The only issue is that they do not want TOO much business :-)
