Went here for a celebration with some friends. It was the first time having Korean Bbq for most of us. The food was good and the staff was very helpful with explaining the many options on their huge menu. It's a great choice for the bbq, there are some good menu items and they even had some sushi rolls!

This place is just "meh." Ordered the soon doo boo galbi combo. The meat came out undercooked and the soup was just ok. For soon doo boo soup, they don't even ask you how you want your soup (spicy, medium, or mild). Banchan quality was good but in small quantity. Service was mediocre; servers made no effort to replenish our banchan or water supply. When I complained about the meat being undercooked, the waitress gave me the "so what" face. After tip I ended up paying about $35 for this mediocrity. Probably not going back.

My friend and I shared two sushi rolls: Party in Your Mouth Roll and the Chungdam Roll. Part in Your Mouth Roll has salmon, cream cheese, avocado with crab, crunch, spicy mayo, and eel sauce on top. The Chungdam Roll had cucumber, spicy crab, lobster, baked eel with avocado, fresh salmon, fish roe, and crunch chips on top. If I had to choose between one, I'd pick the Chungdam Roll. However, it was a bit overpriced ($13 & $18) for the mediocre taste. So, if I came back again, it wouldn't be for the sushi :)

Chung dam is probably one of the few nicer Korean restaurants around. If you are looking for a nicer venue for Korean food, then you go here. Food is pretty good. Had a fix menu of sashimi, galbi gim (short rib), spicy seafood soup, spicy seafood noodles, korean pancakes and more. No complaints. Service...I like the American way of service where they try to anticipate your need before you ask but Korean style is you ring the bell for them. Here they try to anticipate your needs and check on you but they have the bell. I hate the bell...hahaha Something to get use to.

Chung Dam is a traditional Korean restaurant located in the Super H Mart shopping plaza on Pleasant Hill Road. If you're facing H Mart, Chung Dam is on the right. The storefront sign advertises sushi, sashimi, and (Korean) BBQ. This restaurant has been around for many years and is not a bad choice if you're looking for a Korean restaurant with a well-rounded menu. Along with Korean cuisine, Chung Dam also serves sushi. There's a sushi bar inside. Speaking of the inside, this restaurant looks surprisingly nice. The interior features a lot of woods, from floor to ceiling. The atmosphere is more elegant and "upscale" than most Atlanta area Korean restaurants. I'm talking chandeliers, ornate artwork and furniture, various plants for decor, and British leather doors. Seating consists of a variety of semi-private booths and rooms (many with TVs) with tables of varying sizes, along with out-in-the-open tables. Looking at the place from the outside, you wouldn't think all of this would be in here. The menu has a lot to offer and can be overwhelming if you don't know what you want. The sushi menu is basic, but respectable. You can find most of the typical nigiri selections. Rolls (including hand rolls) and sushi combos are available. Non-sushi Japanese items offered include donburi (rice bowls), teriyaki, and tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet). Most rolls are $10-15 each and most nigiri will set you back $5-7 for every two pieces. They have some massive sashimi platters that cost as much as $250 (!). The bulk of the menu consists of a wide range of Korean food such as Korean BBQ, naengmyeon (cold noodles) and other noodles like japchae (translucent noodles), assorted pan-fried or braised meat and seafood dishes, guk, jjigae, and tang (soups and stews, including tofu soup), hot pot, grilled whole fish, and rice dishes including bibimbap (Korean mixed rice). Expect to spend roughly $10-15 for the simpler soups/stews, noodles, and rice dishes and $20+ for BBQ and some of the more elaborate or special entrees. I really like the banchan (Korean side dishes) served here. They have banchan I haven't seen anywhere else in Atlanta such as dried shrimp/prawn and a particular type of chopped and marinated, deep green seaweed. The seaweed tastes fantastic as do the other banchan dishes such as the kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, and tofu with spicy sauce. Additional banchan include pickled daikon radish and pickled and spicy cucumber. I love kimchi and Chung Dam's kimchi has become one of my favorites. It's not too sour nor too spicy. It seems to have struck a near-perfect balance of flavors for me. The kimchi has more color (green) than typical kimchi (mostly red) and isn't soaked in sauce. Some might consider it too "dry," but I like it. Some dishes I recommend include the dolsot bibimbap ($13.99), galbi gui ($23.99), and japchae ($14.99). Dolsot means "stone bowl," so the bibimbap (mixed rice) is served, still sizzling, in a large stone bowl. After this dish is served, the rice still cooks at your table because the bowl is so hot. The rice eventually sticks to the bowl and becomes crispy/burnt and that's usually the best part. I notice Chung Dam's stone bowls seem to be wider and shallower, meaning more surface area to produce yummy, crispy rice. The bibimbap comes with a side of gochujang (red chili paste) which you can apply liberally on top. The idea is to mix everything together. Other ingredients included are shredded carrots and daikon radish, mushrooms, bean sprouts, cucumber, seaweed, one fried egg, sesame seeds, and ground beef. It's hard to go wrong with galbi gui -- marinated Korean BBQ short ribs. It's good almost no matter where you order it. One thing that's great about Chung Dam's version is they serve their galbi *off* the bone (except for two end pieces, which is partially used for presentation). Most Korean restaurants serve it on the bone, which can be annoying sometimes. I also notice that Chung Dam's marinade is a little sweeter or richer, which is OK. The galbi gui is delicious and mouth-watering and I highly recommend it. Japchae noodles are clear, slippery noodles made from sweet potatoes. These noodles are soft and are usually served as a side dish, though I think they work quite fine as an entree. The noodles are stir-fried with pieces of beef, seaweed, cucumber, scallions, carrots, cabbage, and fungus. I say fungus because that's what I grew up calling it, but it's a type of dark-colored, fluffy, "leafy" mushroom. The entire mixture is cooked with a slightly sweet sauce and sesame seeds are added on top. It's a simple tasty dish that's light yet filling at the same time. Service is fine. If you ever need service, there's a button you can press at your table to call the attention of the servers. All of the tables have this button except for the free-standing, "out-in-the-open" tables, so take note.

Overall I really like this place. We have now been twice and I anticipate we will be back again. Everything food wise has been delicious. We have opted not to wait in line for the Korean BBQ tables and prefer to be seated right away and order off the menu. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I would absolutely recommend this place and if you live in Metro Atlanta, it is worth the drive.

Have been on several occasions, mostly with large groups of people, so we always use the private room. I really like the layout of the restaurant in that you can have more privacy even in smaller groups. The food here is really good and they are very generous with the ingredients they use for their side dishes, like chunks of dried seasoned fish and actually aged kimchi. I have had bbq grilled in front of you and bbq grilled in the kitchen, both have been delicious. The galbi is really delicious and nicely seasoned. Last time I was here, I ordered the galbi and seafood tofu stew combo. Both was really delicious and nothing to complain about and the services was great, i didn't even really notice the servers as they brought the food and refilled drinks. The price here is a little higher than most other Korean places but the quality of the food is better and the ambiance is also great. Really enjoyed my experience here and would definitely go back and recommend it to people.

I've eaten here a lot (and that's saying something because I live in Marietta.) It is one of the nicer Korean bbq restaurants. They have gas bbq grills. They can accommodate a couple or a large group. The servers are efficient but don't expect them to know a lot of English. If you need more of something, just ring the bell at the table. I love their plentiful sides. They also have a huge selection on their menu. I like their nang myung in the summer time. They have good gal bi and bulgogi. I was really bummed when they took my favorite item, blue crab soup off the menu. It's been awhile but I'm still sad.
(4)Christina Y.
Maybe it's because I haven't had Korean food in a long time, but their food was on par! Even after we had the food thirty minutes after we picked it up! Yukaejang (spicy beef broth) had the right amount of spice and their jaeyuk bokkeum (spicy marinated beef) was a hefty portion. Also, if you want bibimbap (vegetable rice), this place gives you a lot of vegetables and shredded beef on the side to mix into your bowl. All dishes also came with miso soup which was nice. I heard there were lots of good Korean restaurants in Atlanta, but I'll be back here for sure. I wonder if they have lunch specials.
(4)Yichen K.
We had a great dinner here a couple of nights ago. We had 8 people and got 2 bbq combination platters plus some soups and pancakes. It turned out to be way too much food and we left stuffed. The quality of the food is quite good and the atmosphere makes it a nice place for dates or more formal family gatherings. I would say the bbq combination platter can definitely feed up to 5 people which makes the price per person very reasonable!

Chung-Dam part II. Once again, excellent service and outstanding food quality makes this place my favorite. Highly recommended.
(5)Robin W.
Delicious. This places is always so courteous and clean. Servers are always helpful and attentive. They asked if it was our first time there and we said it was so they explained everything. We have been back several times since and it's been so amazing. Every time. I recommend the short ribs (SOOOO TENDER!), the bulgogi and the bi bim bap. All have been so excellent. Enjoy!!

I work at a restaurant so I know what's expected..... Getting right into it..... The service was very slow and they were very inattentive. There was not much to choose from for a sushi roll selection and the food was just okay. Very disappointed!!!
(2)Venkat M.
Overpriced and under cooked meat, waitress doesn't know what's in the menu. No veg options expect tofu appetizer
(1)Jay S.
Had dinner here this past saturday with my gf for the first time, since she's always telling me about this place.I was very pleased..i have yet been to a korean/ japanese place and thought the food worked very well together..i think we had the house special galbi with some sushi rolls and i must say that the galbi was sooo good, very well marinated. The staff was very friendly, service was good, the restaurant is actually very nice and i didnt really expect much being that in was in the same shopping center as h mart. But over all i was extremely pleased with this place over all.

So I had the pleasure of visiting this fantastic place during a business lunch date with my co workers! With not knowing many good Asian food places here in Atlanta my boss treated us out for lunch here and I must say I was more than pleased! She recommend the Bulgogi Box and Salmon! I went for the Bulgogi box and it was more than enough food! You truly get your Money's worth eating here during lunch time! We also ordered a couple of rolls I believe one was the spicy tuna roll along with the crispy roll! Both very good! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a lot of great tasting food for reasonable prices!

I really like this restaurant. It has both Japanese and Korean food, but it is Korean owned. It's located inside the Hmart plaza. I love how every table is secluded from the neighboring tables. We were sat in a room that had its own table and small television with korean channels on. I didn't get to try their sushi or sashimi because supposedly their sushi kitchen was closed even though it was 10:15pm, and they closed at 12am. We opted for the galbi. It's not the galbi that is like a short rib. It's one large bone with the marinated meat wrapped around the bone. The meat is marinated well and very tender. You also get little side dishes as you would in every Korean restaurant such as Kim chi, bean sprouts, radish and other various veggies. They also brought out an egg soup, rice and soybean soup(my favorite). The service was great! They cooked our meat very fast, but they told us there was no rush with eating. All the cooking was done for us. The only negative I'd have to say about Chung Dam is the pricing. It's pretty expensive. The galbi price is similar to honey pig's and other Korean BBQs, but their sashimi seemed very steep. Hopefully the quality is worth the expensive price. I will definitely be returning again! Food 5 stars Service 5 stars Price 3 stars

Even though this place has been around for awhile, it wasn't until I was there last night, how awesome it is. First of all, they have really every kind of Korean food you can get. From the most obscure, to the most basic dish, they have it all. I've tried their raw beef, ssam bap, on top of their regular soups and meals, sushi, etc. So a large variety of any Korean dish you can think of. Secondly, they are consistently good. Every single time I've been here, which is quite a number considering the years, the food has always been really good. EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have never had a bad experience here food wise which I think is rare. Thirdly, it can be a fancy place for like a special family dinner or occasion or it can be like a quite casual dinner date. It's fancy, but like casual fancy. Again, I reiterate the variety and consistency. Good, solid Korean restaurant.
(4)Pratik S.
The Korean BBQ here is really good. We need to try out the sushi and Japanese items as well, but we opted for the BBQ on both of our visits here. I know there are several other Korean BBQ restaurants in the area, but multiple people have recommended Chung Dam as being the best. The prices are a little high, but the quality of the meats here are really good. We have tried the Galbi-Gui (short rib), Bulgogi (sliced beef), Chadolbagi (rib-eye), and Pork Tenderlion and they have all been amazing. You get the assortment of sides that you would at any Korean restaurant and the staff is more than willing to explain what they all are if you don't already know (we had to ask what some of them were). I have been to a really good Korean BBQ restaurant in San Francisco and I think this place definitely compares to it. I highly recommend visiting Chung Dam and we will definitely be back.

This place is located in the Super H Mart shopping center and has a nice atmosphere. The barbecue grills are electric and I generally like the coal grills better. However, the menu is amazing and has a large variety. The Korean side dishes are awesome. I loved the pickled radish, the seaweed, and the salad was amazing! I had the short ribs which were super yummy. My friends had the bibimbap dolsot that was really yummy with the flowery looking mushrooms. It was really tasty. I'm not a kimchee person but others seemed to think it was exceptional here. The sushi seemed fresh and appetizing.
(4)Laura N.
Good Korean food at quasi-high prices. The naengmyun was huge and awesome - more than enough for two people. The kalbi was also very good too; Chung Dam takes the meat off the bone for you. The prices were noticeably higher than many of the neighboring Korean restaurants, but the quality of the food and ambience at Chung Dam is on the same level as most of the Korean restaurants in Duluth. Service was attentive so long as I pressed the service button.

My family and i went here on sunday because we couldn't decide between korean bbq and sushi. It was not a busy night at all. The place was spacious and clean, and the waitress took our order promptly. We ordered two types of hot food and a sushi combo. The hot food arrived first and it was good. I was a waitress at a sushi restaurant before, so I knew sushi orders take a longer time... but by the time our sushi came, my dad and brother were all done with their food (and my brother eats sloooowwly). About 30min after the hot food arrived, the sushi man rang the bell for a waitress to pick up our sushi. The sushi man rang 3x before someone came. I wanted to get up and serve myself cause i was so hungry.. The waitress brought our sushi and we kept in our concerns and asked if we were getting miso soup (because clearly she forgot). She said she will bring it out along with more banchan, and my dad asked 'doesnt our hot food include soup too?' And the waitress responds, 'Yes.. I wanted to bring it out with the sushi'.... what? They were all done with their dinner.. The whole time we were eating no one came to refill drinks or to simply check in on us until we expressed our disappointment in the service. We saw at least 5 waitresses when we came in. We were there between 8-9pm and the place was empty. Horrible service. The nigiri had way too much wasabi inside and too little fish compared to the massive ball of rice. The only good experience was that the hot food was pretty decent. Horrrrrrible service.

I've always gone here for lunch and never particularly had a satisfying experience. They use different meat for lunch boxes than their bbq meat. And it's never marinated right. So I thought i'd give it dinner a try for Kbbq. 3 orders of marinated Kalbi had us fighting for more meat. Portion is unimpressive compared to the price. And the meat was too tender it almost reminded me of old meat that's been swimming in marinated sauce and i'm sure it probably was. It was sweet but not enough soy sauce taste for me. I wouldn't go here for the taste of food. But it's convenient when they have all separated private rooms along their walls and makes great for business meetings or privacy. Sushi dishes are mediocre. Nothing extraordinary or surprising. I have frequented here about a dozen times now and each and every single time, the food has been mediocre. I guess this place is geared more toward meals with out of town folks, business meetings, and meals for non-Koreans who wouldn't particularly fully know what Korean dishes are supposed to taste like. I wouldn't come here if I had to spend my own money. Korean bbq is not impressive here. I'd rather eat at Haewoondae or eat the Kalbi that comes with Tofu soups at Tofu houses. lol
(2)Merry M.
Came here on a Sunday around 1200 and there was NO one else in the restuarant, so you'd think that service would be spectacular, but it wasn't and that's mainly why I have rated them 2 stars. Food review: It was good (this was my first time at a Korean bbq so I have nothing to compare it too). We ordered bulgogi, gal bi (recommended by our server), & jap chae. The bbq is cooked at the table by your server. The flavor of the gal bi was great, I liked it better than the bulgogi. The jap chae was a large plate of noodles (enough for 2), especially since you get some many side dishes with the bbq. Again with no other experience to compare it to I'm not sure whether the prices were comparable to other restaurants. And the tea at the end of the meal was nice. The service: Like I said we were the only customers there. When seated I stood with my daughter waiting for them to bring a high chair, which the hostess said she was getting but obviously forgot. Finally my husband stated he would get it (I found out later he ended up going to the kitchen to retrieve one himself!?) Our server was great and attentive while she was cooking our bbq but as soon as it was done we never saw her again. Overall the 2 stars are for the food and basically a zero for service.
(2)Chan V.
This is one of my favorite place for Korean BBQ. It's pricey but still good. It never disapoints. I love coming back here time and time again. The BBQ combination is worth the money. You get 5 -6 kinds of meat/seafood for $99. Its enough to feed 5 big people!!
(5)Nancy R.
We came here with my family, in which we sat in the private room with bigger tables. FOOD: For lunch I ordered the bi-bim-bap which is assorted Korean vegetables with meat and egg. I forgot that they usually serve it with a lot of shredded lettuce which overpowers the taste. Overall it was a good dish but you can ask to leave out certain items.
(4)Jodie Y.
One of my favorite spots to go to when I need my Korean food fix! I usually do the BBQ and get the Galbi and an order of the Galbi-jimm (slow cooked beef short rib with veggies). When you do the BBQ they give you complimentary bowl of dang-jang jigae (soybean soup). If you haven't tried galbi-jimm your missing out. i usually go for the beef flavor but they have a good spicy pork flavor also.
(4)Christina T.
came here recently and service was pretty bad. My family usually don't even mind as long as we get good food, but then they gave us the wrong order. They also refused to give us extra edamame.... aren't banchan refillable? 5 people spending over $120 and we can't get some soybeans. Food here is great, but their service is inconsistent, and they are very stingy!
(3)Lindsey O.
An absolute 5-star for their sweet pumpkin galbi stew aka dahn-hobak-galbi-jjim ()! Wow, superb. One must try, Korean or not! Because their other dishes aren't as good as the galbi stew, I am giving this place a 4-star.
(4)Anthony C.
The food is so great and have a high quality , I'll go back again soon.
(5)Lyndsay C.
Good food! I went here for the first time yesterday after reading all about it here on Yelp. Indeed it is in the Super Hmart plaza on Pleasant Hill Rd, so it was very easy to find. We got the Glabi Gui and Kimchi Jjigae. I was satisfied with everything, the only complaint I had was the kimchi. I feel like they may have given us the freshest kimchi they had, and I actually love VERY fermented kimchi. It tasted like it may have been a day old at most! And I felt like the Kimchi Jjigae that we got was a little watered down, not as flavorful as I would have liked. Sounds crazy, but I actually like the Kimchi Jjigae from the Hmart in Duluth better! All in all, I would come back because the place was beautiful inside, the service was good, and the food was good. I'm just a picky kimchi connoisseur. Oh, and it is a little pricy.
(4)M H.
Probably one of my fav Korean restaurants. They have really awesome "kal-bi." And I haven't had a soup dish there yet that I didn't enjoy. It's just like my mom would make...well, sometimes better! A quality Korean restaurant.
(4)Esther J. L.
Had their galbi, spicy pork, shrimp & mushroom and some of their sushi/sashimi platters. Everything was delicious and the servers were attentive at refilling our drinks and making sure our side dishes were replenished. The only down-side is the obnoxious pricing for the food.
(4)Antony C.
This place is located in the H-Mart shopping plaza. Sushi is great quality but pretty steep in price. Price is pretty average for their Korean BBQ, for example an order of kalbi for $22, including banchans. We had a private room for 8 people, which was a little cramped. Food quality was really good. My only complaint is that they use gas grill instead of wood charcoal. They seemed short staffed as all the servers were running around all the time. I had to step in a few times to cook the food otherwise it would have gotten charred. We had to ring the service bell at our table a few times to get refills on drinks and banchans. Although it's not the best place for Korean BBQ, it's reliable on quality of food. Decor is a bit nicer than other places, but I'd gladly trade that for better taste and service.
(3)Roger H.
Love the private booths with personal TVs. The service is good, interior is modern and clean and prices good, Have ate here several times and have had a variety of Korean and Japanese dishes, The Samgyupsal(bacon) and twaeji(pork) kalbi are great! Sides are good and soups fantastic. Also a good value for what you get compared to many Korean Galbi restaurants! Like Gangnam in Duluth!
(5)Addy C.
While Chung Dam scores for ambience & good service, the food is pricier and frankly in today's economy, a few dollars difference matters. Their galbi is very good but it's $19.99 (compared to $14.99-16.99 at other restaurants) and there's a 2-order minimum - the banchan could've been an opportunity to justify those few extra dollars but they were just so-so here. Honestly, I liked the banchan at Well-bean restaurant much more, and their main dishes are just $5.99 (for grand opening special). Gotta love the growing competition between Korean restaurants now - seriously just a few yrs ago, there was no good Korean restaurant in Atlanta. Besides 2 orders of the galbi, we also ordered Jap Chae Noodles (clear cellophane noodles & vegetables) for $14.99 & O-jing-uh-Bokeum (spicy stir fry squid & vegetables) for $13.99. The Jap Chae was good here but I would skip the O-jing-uh-Bokeum - while the sauce was tasty, and loved having noodles in that dish (nice surprise), the squid was really hard to chew. We had a non-Korean friend eating that dish for the first time ... far different from any fried calamari he'd had before. A lot of people like this place b/c of the ambience & selections but I know I can get the same food for less money elsewhere ... so the likelihood is low that you'll find me here anytime soon. But if you go, consider going to White Windmill Bakery or Suno afterwards for dessert - both located in the same shopping area. Or do some grocery shopping at Super H if it's open.
(3)Amy C.
Food at this place was pretty spot on but the service was terrible. They basically forgot about us. Interesting side dishes like lotus root and spicy octopus. Delicious soups and casseroles. Tried a spicy tuna handroll which was quite good. Because of the service, however, I probably wouldn't go back.
(3)Lyndsay K.
That BF of mine brought me here to introduce me to Korean BBQ for the first time back in April. Since then we've been back twice - including last weekend when we took my parents. I haven't been to Iron Age or Honey Pig or any of the other 18,937 Korean BBQs in my neighborhood, so I can't compare, but Chung Dam has been consistently great. We've had the same server every time and she's very friendly and efficient. The food quality has been great - but again, I can't compare it to anything, just know that it tastes so damn good. I've heard/read that some of the more popular places are really loud, which is one reason I've stuck with Chung Dam. I don't like to have to compete with loud music in order to have a conversation. CD seems quiet to me (not silent) - especially when you get a private room. I'm a fan and I'm sure we'll be back.
(4)Perry F.
Look through my other reviews. Go ahead, look! What's the opposite of a Negative Nancy? Me. Positive Perry. Which is why it literally (waaaait for it) pains me to pin this shameful rating on Chung Dam, a restaurant that I've always had decent experiences with in the past. The most recent time, however, was iffy as soon as we walked in the door. Picture it- Saturday night, around 7. We walked in and were ignored by the hostess until every Korean customer had been seated, including those who came in after us. Finally, we were brusquely directed to a table. There was some kind of event taking place in most of the banquet rooms (might have been related to golf- the Golf Channel was on every television and Titleist gear dotted the crowd), so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in saying that it might of been a stressful and busy night. Still, the server was so unengaged (zero eye contact. seriously.) while taking our order that we both had to repeat our choices several times, and still didn't receive items we requested when our order came. What we did end up getting: gal-bi and the gaggle of tasty side items that precede it, and two sushi rolls: spicy tuna and salmon skin. The food was...totally delicious! Seriously. The short ribs were super tender and the sushi tasted spot on. At the end of the meal I was satisfied, despite these additional crappy service stats: # of Times we Saw Our Server: 1 # of Times Drink Was Refilled: 0 # of Minutes Waited to Get Our Flippin' Check: 25. I timed it- and ended up having to flag a different server down anyway, after which we received it in about 30 seconds. You might say, hey, Perry! Be assertive and ask someone sooner! Ohoho, dear reader, have YOU ever tried to get your check from a pretty lady in a pink vest while she actively avoids your table? Triiiiiicky. Tricky. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. What IS here is the mini trash can beside my bed...and what is THERE is my cell phone, which I just used to call out of work. I am puking my brains out, Yelp. Have been since Sunday morning. Am I going to say for sure that Chung Dam caused my food poisoning? There's no way of knowing, I guess, though that's all I ate the night before I woke up in a cold sweat and Usain Bolt-ed to the toilet. What I do know is that if my heart rate doesn't slow down and if I can't stay hydrated, I'm gonna go to the urgent care clinic for some TLC. Looking forward to the prompt IV refills!

First of all, 5 of my family member went to this restaurant and had bbq and sushi. Now I had to flip marinated beef on grill which waitress suppose to do, asked for additional side dishes which it came later, we had to ask for lettuce continously. Price is high for Korean restaurants, then service should be better. If you wanted to waste time and money then go? This will be my last time.

I always go to Chung Dam for their Korean barbecue, so I can't speak to any of their other dishes. We usually order the bulgogi and galbi, although sometimes we also get the pork. If you've eaten traditional Korean barbecue before, you know what to expect at Chung Dam. They bring out a variety of small dishes with rice, kimchi, lettuce, etc. You wrap the cooked meat in a leaf of lettuce and add your choice of toppings. Service is attentive and the decor is very attractive. It looks like a very expensive restaurant, even though it's not. I find the prices moderate. They're not cheap, but they're not off the charts either. And if you're dining with a large group, they have several small enclosed rooms that are very private.

Ordered two sushi rolls. The crunchy california roll was really awesome. Ordered combination fried rice and spicy pork entree and found both to be excellent. Some complimentary tasters on the table to start were hit or miss thus the 4 overall. The four dishes we ordered for three people left us full for the price of $56 including tip. No drinks were ordered.

After stopping in here I realized that I had indeed been here before a few years back. Anyways with a clear head because I dont remember what I had previously I went for my Korean go-to. I got the Galbi which clocked in at $21 so I was expecting alot from it. Much to my surprise because everyone raves about the short ribs here, they weren't really on point. I had a couple end bones that had super tough impossible to eat meat on them. And it just wasn't a big portion to justify the $21 tag. I would be back for the soondubu however that was priced at 9 bucks and was really really good. Service and banchan was also friendly so they got a 3 star. I wouldn't get the galbi here though, maybe they had a bad day.

Wish I could give a higher rating because the food here is excellent, but the service could be a lot better. Twice in a row, we've received poor service. It took forever for them to bring out the banchan..and we always have to press the service button for our water to be refilled or to get some attention.

This is one of my favorite Korean spots! I love the tofu hot pot. Hubby always order bulgogi/jap chae & that's super awesome too.

Try Chung Dam's Naeng Myun (cold buckwheat noodle - it's tastier than it sounds, I promise)!! My boyfriend grew up having his parents' homemade, meaty Naeng Myun all his life and he couldn't find a good Naeng Myun place in Atlanta that is just as meaty. About when he gave up on Atlanta, he found Chung Dam's Naeng Myun which is quite meaty. Recently, I also found out that my parents' recommended Naeng Myun place is Chung Dam. That says a lot, no? I think I'm lucky to be surrounded by foodies! Hehe. My first visit here was when I was in college. Like other Yelpers have stated in their reviews, I, too, thought that this place was pricey. Fast forwarding 5+ years - I came here with my boyfriend and couple of our friends. We helped them move so they treated us out to Chung Dam. We ordered 1 order of Galbi (Korean BBQ), 1 order of Sam Gyup Sal (pork belly meat), Bulgogi Tortilla (Bulgogi is stir fried beef) and 1 Naeng Myun. Note: if you want to sit by the grill, you have to order 2 orders of meat. It doesn't have to be 2 orders of the same kind of meat. Verdict - Galbi & Sam Gyup Sal: tasty and good. Enjoy it with lettuce that comes with it along with shredded scallion and the sauce. Bulgogi Tortilla: smaller than expected. It's pretty much a fancy beef & cheese quesadilla. It's definitely tasty, but I could probably make this at home. Naeng Myun: less sweet and meatier than other restaurants I've tried. Great for hot weather! Re-read the paragraph above that starts with "My boyfriend..." The service here is decent. I'd come here again for Galbi sparingly due to their price. But you know what I would come here often for? Naeng Myun!! I already want some Naeng Myun (typing as I mentally drool)...

I've gone to other places, but we always come back to this one for several reasons. 1. The service is almost always great! I know there are those who like to cook their own stuff, but I would just buy the meats and do it at home if that's what I wanted. I want the atmosphere, the service, and the delicious food! 2. The one time service was pretty awful, I kindly let the ladies up front know. They said they would remember me, and take care of me better next time. I thought it was just bs to get me to come back. Nope... I was back a couple of weeks later. They remembered me, and had obviously told EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE WAIT STAFF to come by and say hi to me, and see if there was anything I needed. Even the guy who usually looks like he's too busy to care came by and asked how we were, and if our week was okay!! 3. The food!!! The food is great, usually very well seasoned and spiced. To some, it may be a little skimpy for the price. To me, I expect that from the service industry since the market crash in 2008. But it's not only that the food is good... it's consistently good! Even the one time we had bad service, the food was still great! Every person we've taken to this place has absolutely loved it!!! 4. Lots of Asians eat there. Yep... the old rule of thumb. You know it can't be all that bad if you see a bunch of Asians eating at an Asian place! 5. The owners/managers/hostesses. They are always friendly to us. I think I enjoy telling them how much we like the place as much as they like to thank me for being a patron. Bottom line - There are tons of Korean bbq places around Atlanta. There are plenty within a few miles from Chung Dam! It's close to Super H, and Walmart, so it's why we started going. We keep going back now because they have shown us they can always deliver good food with good service.
(4)Jessica L.
My favorite place for korean bbq hands down. Yangnyum galbi is what I usually order, but I also love the regular galbi. They also have many healthy options in their menu if you're not in the mood for some bbq (I can't imagine why, though).
(5)Melissa B.
The sushi rolls we got and the soup the husband had were awesome with the Alaska roll being my favorite. The service was really good too considering how late at night we walked in, not to mention quick. The service was good I just wish they could of kept our tea and water glasses filled. We will be back for sure.
(4)Sheri C.
yummy, today we went to chungdam for lunch. we had BBQ kalbi. it wasn't too sweet, and the banchan were great. i've been here several times, and am surprised i hadn't reviewed it before. service is alright, especially considering how busy it was today. prices are pretty reasonable, albeit i know you can find cheaper places to BBQ. but, it's next door to H Mart, and that is a plus.
(4)Min Y.
Excellent tasting Korean BBQ right next to the Super H Mart. Pros: TONS of side dishes given out, all very tasty Not too exorbitantly priced compared to other Korean BBQ joints Attentive and friendly waitresses and hosts Right next to Super H Mart Cons: Although it isn't very expensive, it's not cheap either. Each BBQ order is at least 15 bucks and you are FORCED to order at least 2. Some BBQ orders are randomly small. We ordered a pork BBQ and there was a lot given out, and then the world-famous Galbi order barely had any food. Very inconsistent. I love Korean BBQ and this is the best tasting korean BBQ in atlanta, but I'm starting to get really annoyed by some of the prices/quantities in Atlanta. Come on, Koreans!!!
(3)Tom P.
First impression, high end. I had a noodle dish since I went by myself. Food was pretty good. I enjoyed it. Price for Galbi seemed a little high but I am willing to try next time when I bring a date :)

I'm not sure if the proximity to H-Mart is a plus or minus. I would recommend coming here if you like the grilling-at-the-table experience. In my opinion, I dislike it when they are over solicitous and don't let us grill our own meat. If I wanted someone else to grill the meat, I would have walked over to the H-Mart food court and ordered the same food for a fraction of the price. Eating "hibachi" style earns you a private room, nice because of its seclusion. Each room comes with a TV that broadcasts Korean shows. The table sat six but would be a tight squeeze even for six thin people. So, if you're a party of six, make sure you sit next to those you really like. Three orders of kalbi were enough for the four of us. The meat was pretty decent but not as flavorful as it could be. The banchan that accompanied the meal were some of the basics - kimchi, seaweed, daikon, green beans, fish cake, and potato salad - nothing stood out. The green leaf lettuce was fresh and they gladly refilled it for us. We also scored two yukkejangs for what we ordered. I didn't pay but from what I heard the prices were comparable to all other Korean restaurants. If you need a sit-down Korean restaurant fix, this is a solid choice. However, you can't beat getting decent Korean food at the H-Mart food court for under $10.

At Korean places, their banchan leaves a distinct impression on me - I like it when they give me a lot. The more the merrier ;) Chung Dam. Oh what to say. I've heard of this place through Yelp, with reviewers mentioning it and whatnot, so I came in with some expectations for the food. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who seated me at one of their large tables (seating for 4), and after asking and ordering the most popular bbq item (Gal Bi), I sat back and looked around. Upscale interior that makes you think classy and elegant, but there's a Korean elderly couple sitting right over there! And a Korean family just passed by. Obviously a place frequented by Koreans, Liz. Duh, it's next to Hmart and we're in Duluth. Anyways, 1pt off for the wooden chopsticks. I like me some metal Korean style chopsticks, please. Banchan came out - 5 dishes plus a bowl of miso soup. 0pts earned for only 5 banchans. I like at least 6. Kimchi was the best I've ever had. Fresh, just the right amount of crunch, and definitely made me reach for some water. Other banchan didn't leave much of an impression, typical dishes. Miso soup was good, but I'm not a big fan of miso soup. Beef came out. It looked good. It looked like a small serving for the price I paid. Tender, sweet, good quality meat. However, I will agree with reviewers who said that if you just want some regular Gal bi, go somewhere else - this place has prime meat, but it's gonna cost ya. Gotta admit, however, even the leftovers were tender and not at all chewy. Bonus points for the pretty smelling and stylish bathroom. 2pts for the abstract paintings in the hallway outside the bathroom - I really liked them. Also, 2pts for the music - some smooth salsa, mellow beat chill music. 1pt for the atmosphere. This is a great place for groups, families, and couples - I can see this as a good date place for Korean. I might try some sushi next time since this place is technically a Japanese AND Korean place, but why would you go to a Korean plaza for Japanese food? 3 stars for experience, 4 stars for service (I was forgotten for a bit, but the manager came to rescue me!), 2 stars for price, 5 stars for atmosphere.

This is where I go when I want good and proper Korean barbecue. I've now been here a half dozen times with several different groups. The decor is upscale. Four or fewer people get seated at a single-grill table with cubicle-style walls in the center. Larger groups get placed in small rooms with just enough room to navigate around a long table with multiple burners. The bul go gi (marinated pork) is great, as is the gal bi (short ribs). However, I think my favorite is the spicy pork, followed by the pork belly. I can't tell you about the rest of the bountiful menu, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to make it past the grilled items to be able to weigh in on the matter.

I would not normally decide to drive a half hour to Duluth for lunch, except that once a month or so a handful of coworkers and I meet up for lunch since we all work from home. What to do when everyone is spread out across the area like Aunt Bertha's back-side on a hardwood church pew? Why, meet up in a somewhat central location, of course. Selection du jour: Chung Dam. I've been here a couple of times. The decor is very nice. The place has a very classy feel. Their lunch menu is expansive with lots of options, spanning the range of bento boxes featuring beef, pork, chicken or fish, to sushi, to tofu stews. They advertise themselves as a Japanese Korean restaurant so you can go in whichever direction appeals to you on your visit. The full-blown Korean barbecue is nice as well. Be prepared for a ton of food and the scents of cooked meat to linger on your clothes for a while after your visit. Solid three stars.

Having never been there before, and having that burning curiosity to go where I've never been, we wandered into Chung Dam this afternoon for an early dinner. While the restaurant itself is gorgeous I find it over priced for what we got. The banchan wasn't anthing to write home about and the spicy tofu soup was good but unsurprising. The staff was friendly and that's a plus, and there was a tv I could stare at dully for no apparent reason (it was all in korean anyways). Right across the parking lot is Book Chang Dong Tofu House, who has spoiled me for excellent banchan and good food at reasonable prices. Curiosity satisfied and now I don't have to wonder anymore. It's doubtful I'll go back.

This is my favorite Korean restaurant in Atlanta. My family always bring our relatives here when they are in town. I don't come here as often as I did, but I forgot how good everything was. Yesterday, my mom, fiance and uncle ate dinner here. We sat in one of the private rooms which I like. Although the food is pricey, it is worth it in my opinion. For dinner, they start you off with a small salad of ice burg lettuce and ginger dressing. Then they gave us porridge and mul - (which means water in korean) kim chi. It is cold kim chi, almost like a cold soup. Then came out all the side dishes. I think we had about 8-10 sides. For my entree, I ordered bi bim bap. It's like a salad with roots and veggies and a little meat. Plus, they put an egg on top. Then you add your rice and hot sauce in it. I like it bc you can make it according to your taste. My fiancé ordered the dol sot bi bim bap. It's just like my entree, but in a hot stone bowl. My meal is cold, while his is steaming. My mom and uncle ordered soup with gal bi and roots in a dang jang broth (oo joo gal bi ji gae). It was also tasty. We also had a side of gal bi. I love the flavor of their gal bi. It was tender and delicious! Our dinner for 4 people and 5 entrees was around $51. I thought it was reasonable for the food. They do give a lot of food, so you get your money's worth. My mom's soup could of fed two people easily. This is a great place if you want good consistant Korean food.

Service can be hit or miss, but the food is always delicious! Best Korean BBQ in town!
(4)Reba Jean B.
The service was friendly and the interior is relaxing. The prices are pretty high and the food is OK.
(3)Gloria M.
Went here with my mum's church group. Nothing too great or spectacular. Service sucks a bit, they never refilled my water without my asking but refilled everyone else's? Maybe it's cuz I was a "kid" among adults, one of the reasons why I hate the service at korean restaurants. We had an array of dishes, I don't know half the names but nothing was better than good. My mom could cook the dishes easily enough with much more flavor, sooo much salt! But nice looking place and nice job with the tv's, gives me something to look at when I get bored. Will not be coming back cuz it lacks flavor and good service, oh and their BBQ sucks.
(3)Lady M.
This is probably 1 of the good korean restaurants I love to go to. Though it is a bit pricy on the sushi and BBQ, the food is good. The only downfall is that I feel like if you're not Korean, you don't get the same kind of good customer service. If I go with my fiancé whom is Korean, we get treated unexpected well but if I were to go with just a group of non Korean friends, we get such poor service. It gets frustrating at times but I am there for the food.
(3)Janet B.
Chung Dam is just a nice Korean restaurant, very standard and clean. It's not FANCY, but it's where I would take picky non-Koreans or formal dinner parties. They have private rooms with TVs. Plus, it's in the H-mart plaza, so it makes up for a pleasant Korean dining experience.
(4)Victoria H.
Can I give 0 stars? Everything here was terrible! My gamjatang and hubby's soondaeguk was exactly the same thing, only mine had some pork and his had soondae with innards. Everything, including the side dishes were waaaay too salty! The cod was decent, but still too salty. Everything was cooked with salt and nothing else. Never again will we be here.
(1)rob s.
I'll give it a 3.5. After battling for space @ Super-H market, we had to absorb some grub into our stomach's. So there we found Chung Dam, "Chung Dammit, let's eat here!" Once inside, the first thought was, "man, expensive overhead....fancy decor and hip artwork - I kinda like it." My kids wanted sushi and the rest of us aimed straight for the Korean menu. The sushi was O-tay, nothing special but we all kinda of expected that. The assorted Korean dishes that we shared was quite good, in fact very filling and loads of it. The service was great, the prices are a tad bit higher but with an overhead like that, you have to expect it. Certainly worth many visits to come.
(3)Yuna P.
My boyfriend and I recently return to Chung Dam for unexplainable reasons. I mean, it is unusual for people to return to a restaurant where they had a horrible experience. Nonetheless, there we were, anxiously looking through the menu, trying to order the right stuff. We ordered the Galbijjim served in Pumpkin and Ssambap. We were blown away! The presentation was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the portion was gigantic! (I guess I ordered the wrong food last time I was there.. oops!) The service was still incredible as how I remembered - prompt and professional. Chung Dam, I'm so sorry I said all that nasty things about you before. Kiss and make up? :)
(5)Benjamin S.
We questioned the quality of the food when we entered the restaurant and saw the fancy decor. But, we were relieved to find out everything was delicious. We went with the grill table but then found out AFTER we ordered that we had to have more than one order to cook our food on the tabletop grill. Besides from that, everything else we ordered was all delicious. Banchan dishes were all great, yellow croaker, etc. Service was OK. We will be back.
(4)David P.
Pretty nice, upscale place! Me likey! Food was great. We had the Kalbi and Bul-go-gi plates for the girll and one friend got the Seafood Bibimbop. So good! Wait staff was nice. I think we found our new favorite place in Atlanta for Korean food.
(4)Christie K.
Had a delightful lunch here with my umma! We got one of the private rooms that comes with a personal TV. I got to eat delicious food while my umma tsk tsked the skankiness of Gossip Girl (hahahaha). I had their fish roe bowl with kimchi and avocado. DELICIOUS. The roe was plentiful and the flavors really worked well together (the creaminess of the avocado, the spiciness of the kimchi, and the crunchiness of the roe). My umma got the raw fish bowl (hwedupbap) and she liked it a lot! I got to taste some of hers and it was so fresh and delicious. UGH, I can't wait to come back to GA and eat here again~
(5)Wanda J.
Come to think about it, I don't think I've ever had anything bad at Chung Dam. It's a bit more overpriced than other Korean restaurants, but you get what you pay for. The food is tasty. Hwe dup bap--yum! Butter fish--yum! Galbi--double yum! Great place for good Korean food. The service isn't so great, however, the food makes up for it.
(4)Bee D.
This is probably one of my favorite korean spots off of pleasant hill but i dont come here as often as i would like to. The menu is kinda of pricey but the service is usually on point and sushi here is great. This is a great date place because you can get one of those private rooms for the grill and the place is always clean. Plus the room comes with a pager so the staff is very tentative to your needs. Also the place is an absolute cure for hangovers. You get special attention and quietness in those rooms to enjoy your meal and to recover.
(4)Rachel A.
I had never been to a Korean barbecue place, so Chung Dam was definitely a new experience. We ordered the combination plates and added on an order of extra pork plus 2 orders of shrimp fried rice because there were about 7 of us and they told us that the combination plate would feed 3 people. Needless to say we ordered wayy too much food. Everything was really tasty, my favorite was the gal bi. They brought out some soup, lettuce, and other items which i still cannot identify but they were yum. I loved the set up of the restaurant, our table was in its own private room. Our waiter was attentive and the prices werent too bad.
(4)Thomas B.
If your Korean friends take you to a Korean BBQ place it must be good. I have been to a few off Buford Hwy and this one is my fav. It's not close but worth the drive. Moderately priced. I still don't really know what to order because someone else always orders but I have not been let down by the food yet. Very, very good and a fun experience.
(4)Krystal P.
I really want to give this place a 3.5. The barbecue is good, however they use gas and not coals. In my opinion, the #1 difference in a Korean BBQ place in the US compared to Korea is the panchan (side dishes). I find the panchan of every Korean BBQ place I've been to in the US, lackluster. This place is no different. I can't complain about the BBQ, although I think I can make better. I feel like they don't season the meat. I won't blame Chungdam, I think that's every place in ATL. The service here was outstanding!!! I enjoyed the privacy of our table as well. Noise was at a minimum. I'll likely be back.
(4)Owen R.
I don't know why I waited so long to try Korean BBQ, and yes I know it's but a small subset of Korean cuisine, but there is something primal for me about cooking meat over fire and putting it directly into your mouth. There is definitely no shortage of Korean BBQ options in Atlanta, and fortunately they all seem to retain a good level of uniqueness between them - and all are memorable for one reason or another. My favorite destination of late has been Chung Dam, located in the ginormous Super H Mart shopping center on Pleasant Hill Road. Yes, I agree with a lot of people in that Tohdamgol is delicious and unique, despite it's exceptionally 'authentic' decor, Immediately walking into Chung Dam, the sheer cleanliness and organization of the restaurant sets it apart from many other destinations in town. This same mentality is carried over into their food; their meats and banchan are always exceptionally fresh. Tohdamgol definitely has more memorable and unique banchan, but the flavors at Chung Dam are that much more pronounced, making a much more enjoyable dining experience. The meat is definitely higher quality than Iron Age, the bulgolgi I was served at Chung Dam on my most recent visit was nearly melting in my mouth, and the meat is never fatty nor prone to random pieces of connective tissue. Chung Dam also features excellent seafood BBQ options, the shrimp + mushrooms is a regular order for me, and most recently I tried their lobster tail and was admittedly surprised with how good it was. Chung Dam also features a sushi menu, which I have yet to try but those who I have been with who have tried it assured me the quality matches the expectations set through my descriptions above Each visit there I have receive some form of dessert, even if it is just in the form of fresh fruit, it's an excellent gesture at the end of the meal. Granted, it's not as exciting as a self-serve softserve ice cream machine a la Iron Age but honestly after most visits to eat Korean BBQ I'm lucky to be able to walk to my car let alone consider the possibility of continuing to eat food. If you are looking for something a little more tasteful, both in terms of flavor and appearance in the realm of Korean BBQ, definitely make Chung Dam a future destination. For the quality of the food it is reasonably priced compared to other Korean BBQ establishments, besides - Korean BBQ is all about getting a group of friends together, and gorging as a group and typically ends by 'going Dutch.'
(5)Phacops T.
Great restaurant and a nice surprise. Try the volcano roll - one of the best I've had. I will come back for sure if I lived here. Try it and you will want to go back too!

The place is located in the same shopping center with Super Hmart. From the exterior of the restaurant the place look expensive and it is for a Korean restaurant. When you enter the door they asked if you like to sit at a table or in one of those room, we opted for a room. In the room it have a button you can push to ring your server anytime you need them- pretty cool if only there wasn't a communication problem with our waitress. We order the galbi, which is pretty good but for like $16 I believe is a bit pricey. We also got shrimp tempura and it was pretty average and their version of a dumpling was yuck. So the a-okay but I rather somewhere else I know I can get som good galbi for a much cheaper price.

Ok.. so this place has really descent decor for an Asian Place.. and the fact they take you into a little booth with a TV is kind of amusing and a bit strange.. I wish I had a camera!! The TV was playing Korean skits, and towards the end of our dinner it had a Korean Drama... It kind of felt like they were taking me into a hotel room..which was a bit bizarre... The waitress was hard to get a hold of, especially since they had a button that was suppose to be used to get service's attention. The Fan that pulled the smoke up from the BBQing made a weird cricket noise, that made the evening alittle more entertaining. I don't know about the lettuce and rolling the meat, rice, and bean paste. It's too much work! I like Kalbi and I like marinated meats more I think. Now I don't know why, but Korean restaurants are so good at making potatoe salad.. it's uncanny.. The side dishes were good.. and I really like their kimchee and gatoki?? it even had the yummy green stem attached to it (radish).. it was perfect.. sour enough but not too sour. Alot of Korean restaurants give fresh kim chee which I don't like.. I like sour kimchee. They had a tofu soup that I found to be a bit salty.. my overall experience of this place is that it had great decor, it was not smokey.. but the waitress service was just ok.. at some point we could have burnt down the place since our waitress never came back to turn our meats.. and the fat drippings made some crazy flames.. I think what it lacked for taste and meat preparation, it tried to make up in presentation in a flat screen tv.. When we left the restaurant E almost got tackled over by a Korean middle aged lady- in a funky outfit with crazy high heels..No excuse me's or anything... ahhhh.. Asian etiquette:) what can I say?
(3)Laura M.
I had the dumpling and rice cake soup, my fiance had the bimbimba and the were both fabulous. They didnt give us many little plates, no kim chi! But the ones we got were delicious. I'm sure we could have asked for more, but the waitress hardly came to our table. It was expensive though, the most expensive Korean I have been to. 25 for the two of us. I would go back for an out of town guest that had never had Korean, but not for myself.
(4)Dave G.
This is an upscale Korean place. It has a very nice korean food selection. However, if you like Kalbi there are better alternatives for the money. Service has always been pretty good.

CHUNG DAM...yea...I've been here few times since this place is near H-mart. I really don't know why i go here. I might not be a good korean, but DAMN IT, i think i know my korean food...well...not really...but my trustworthy taste buds says chung dam's food is mediocre for the price I pay. Restaurant setting makes me feel little uncomfortable (some sleazy coffee shop), and waitress never seems excited. Today, our waitress looks depressed. I wanted to give her some happy pills...well...I really wanted to smack her and tell her, "SMILE DAMN IT!". I ordered lettuce wrap pork, and they used cheap cut of pork. I've seen better cut of meat for this dish for less. Ahhh...my spoiled taste buds, I don't blame them, i blame myself. I shall go back there again...why? I'm a fool, n its convenient after groceries at H-mart. I'm just lazy. Oh, I gave it two stars b/c side dishes were good...for today :).
