A change of scenery from the usual hustle and bustle of Pleasant Hill Road, Banh Mi Cafe belongs to a quiet plaza off of Satellite. I'm shocked by the terrible reviews. I made plans to eat here by the 4 star overall review before I scrolled down and realized the average score among my friends was between 2-3. Yikes. And while scrolling through the pictures, I wondered if I picked the wrong Viet restaurant for dinner. Parking in the nearly empty lot made me feel even more wary than I already felt. My friend told me she was almost there so I went ahead and ventured inside. There were maybe one or two other tables occupied, one of which sat the cute little owner (I recognized her from pictures on Yelp). The menu is limited, but offers all the basics, from pho to rice dishes, spring rolls to (of course) banh mi. I couldn't decide on a dish, as I was craving a rice dish, a vermicelli dish, pho or a banh mi. At the last moment, I decided on a medium (the smallest size) pho dac biet and a BBQ pork banh mi. I saw pictures of the tiny medium bowl of pho on Yelp but I felt that the size was sufficient for me. I had half of my banh mi and could barely finish my medium pho. With the appetite that I have, that's saying a lot. The pho wasn't bad - there was a pretty good proportion of noodles to meat. Once I mixed in my bean sprouts, jalapeño and sriracha, it was a little hard to taste the broth, but I enjoyed my pho. The larger variety of meat led to one of each kind of meat, which I suppose is standard for a smaller size portion of pho. I was so hungry I forgot to take a photo before I devoured my pho. My banh mi had a nice toasted crispy baguette and there was an average amount of meat. Butter dripped off the sandwich, which was a bit too much for me to handle but it was still delicious. The menu had more adventurous banh mi I could have tried but BBQ pork banh mi was my standard order among all banh mi shops. Overall, a cheaper option for dinner in Duluth that satisfied my Vietnamese pho craving. However, I believe there may be better restaurants along Pleasant Hill or Buford Highway for higher quality and better tasting dishes.

Came by with a friend while visiting from out of state for a quick lunch. Atmosphere isn't the best and our table was a bit sticky. Server was attentive and helpful with suggestions. Ordered the banh mi dac biet and loved it. Hoping to come back and try with avocado! For the price (less than $4) it's definitely worth the visit.

I am Actually extremely surprised for not discovering this place sooner ... All I can say is I'm hooked and can't wait to come back and try different things . Very casual place with excellent food!! And That's what most food lovers be looking for at times, reason I'm here :)) I had the barbecue sandwich & spring roll which was fantastic and let's not mention CHEAP .. The food pictures I will be posting cost exactly $6.36 WOW WOW .... Try it !!!! And extremely nice people to chat with as well . Thank you for a great lunch

Banh Mi Cafe is ok. I came here on a weekend afternoon for a late lunch. I usually get the banh mi dac biet (combination). The bread is chewy, and the sandwich contents was decent. I also had a coconut smoothie/tea drink thing. This came out much later after the sandwiches, so eh...I was kind of hoping to drink it while eating my sandwich. Service is ok. This place seems more attentive than the other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. Like Lee's and Quoc Huong, they honor the multiple sandwiches deal where if you buy 5, you get the 6th free. Most importantly, they honor it if you ate there and want to bring home the extra sandwiches. So this was nice since we decided we could eat banh mi again later in the day. Banh Mi Cafe is out of the way for me, but it's a decent stop if you're craving banh mi in the Duluth area.

I think the reason why this place is so highly ranked is due to the fact... the food is super cheap. I mean, $3 for a meal that can fill you up? I don't blame people. I wish I knew about this place when I was in college! Could have came here before going back to Athens some days, haha. Parking's not bad here. Banh Mi Cafe is in a small strip, so, eh, there are several spots. I've only been here during late dinners, so spots are open and I'm not struggling to find one. Space and Service - They are actually pretty big inside. I was surprised. I kind of thought it'd be smaller. Service is ok. I think when we went a few times, there were only like 3 tables. But the lady wasn't very good at visiting the tables, refilling waters, and etc. :/ I thought maybe the first time I went, she had a bad day, but after the 2nd and 3rd time, I kind of figured that's how this place is run. Food - The egg rolls come out in tiny pieces. Not what I was expecting. They were meh. Too greasy & the ingredients weren't popping. The sauce wasn't really zinging either. I'd pass on these. I actually think BuHi's Pho Dai Loi's eggrolls are better in presentation and taste. BBQ Pork Banh Mi - Bread was good. The meat was bland. Definitely need to up their game on this. The Banh Mi itself was big, but just wasn't put together well. Kind of messy. Also, way too much mayo/sauce. Overpowered everything. I'll have to try another one. But right now, I live closer to BuHi so, Quoc Huang may be my go to still. Sorry guys! Since this place is cheap, I'd come here if I were on a budget + near Duluth.

I don't know if I just went on an off day, but it didn't fit in with all the wonderful reviews. We ordered 4 different things to get a taste of a few different things. I just moved from the Buford Hwy area with Lee's Bakery and Quoc Huong as my usual Banh mi places and what I ordered just didn't match up. BBQ spring rolls: the bbq pork is just not what I'm used to. It was thicker and dryer. The spring roll skin needed to be soaked in warm water longer to be less hard and chewy. BBQ Banh Mi: again the pork was weird. The pickled radish and carrots were sparse. I feel like the pickled vegetables are what make the taste of these sandwiches and there wasn't enough flavor. Banh Mi with Garlic Sausage: definitely had more flavor than the bbq banh mi, but I was not the biggest fan of the sausage. It was kind of like a hot dog consistency. My husband said it was okay for him though. Combination Banh Mi: My husband ordered this one and seemed to enjoy it. Even though this place is Banh Mi cafe maybe the noodle and rice dishes are better than the banh mis? I AM willing to go back and try some other dishes. BBQ sandwiches are always my favorite so I may even order that again to make sure it is not an off day.

The best banh mi place in Duluth. Pho, fried rice, & EGGROLLS are a must as well! WAYY better than i luv pho and saigon. The parking lot is a bit of a hassle, but the food is well worth it. Enjoy~

I don't know what to do with this place. The food is exceptional (when they get the order right), and the prices are excellent. However, this restaurant has two major issues. First, the location itself is a dive. I only do take out. However, the real issue affecting my score is that the owner (I think he's the owner) is so openly mean to his staff that my wife won't even come here anymore because he makes her feel so uncomfortable. We would come here 2-3 times a week if it weren't for the owner's attitude towards his workers. Come for the food, but leave with your order as soon as you can.

A decent place to eat banh mis in the duluth area. I had ordered the pork spring rolls, avocado spring rolls, banh mi dact biet and the banh mi thit nuong. All were good. Portions are decent. Overall, I would come back and order banh mis here.

I love Banh Mi. I'm just visiting the area but I have normal sandwich spots I go to in San Diego where I'm from. This place is really yummy for their Banh mi! The only thing I was disappointed in was their order of egg rolls. They looked like mini lumpias (Filipino egg rolls) and also looked like they were cooked in old oil and cooked frozen. They were also not served with mint and lettuce.. Which is beyond me because when I spoke to the chef about the quality of these egg rolls, she said this is exactly how they do it in Vietnam. Hmmm. Anywho, they made it up buy serving us better quality, regular-what-I-am-used-to egg rolls. They still forgot the mint and lettuce though. Other than that, the banh mi was DELISH. Definitely comparable to the San Diego places I am regular to.
(4)Helen C.
They have a deal on banh mi (buy 5, get 1). I totally got the deal to stock up on sandwiches to bring for lunch to work for a week. Great deal and prices. The guy who runs the front is very nice and use to be surfer. We also tried a combo for a pork chop or something, not bad either. If I want to get some cheap and pretty good banh mi's again I say this is a good option.

Omg. This place is awesome! Now mind you, it won't be the BEST Viet food, but it's pretty up there, hence the 5 stars (very rarely would I do so). Don't judge the exterior of this place like I did. Like most places, be a fair consumer and let the experience, food, and service be the judge of things. So the owner is Caucasian. Let's just put it out there. He will introduce himself and ensure you that he's more than qualified because he's been eating Viet food for over 26 years. His gf is the main chef, and she's Viet. Does that ease your mind? He's pretty knowledgeable about the different varieties of Viet food so you can test his knowledge or just let him give you a consultation. I was with a non-Viet friend, and the owner swung by and offered his services to her. I sat there quietly and listened, and of course I didn't let on that I was Viet. lol. The banh mi dac biet was pretty good. I'd say it's comparable to Quoc Huong, but a lot closer to home for me. The bread was crispy and had enough spread to give it moisture, not like some places where it's dry like heck. My friend had the bun with pork and shrimp. She scarfed that thing down like nobody's business. I'd say she's impressed with it. We were told the fish sauce was homemade, something of the gf's secret recipe. So for the atmosphere, food, hospitality, and price, this place gets 4 1/2, but why not just round up since Banh Mi Cafe is super cozy. My friend and I felt super welcomed the instant we entered. Oh. This place isn't large and spacious. It's about the size of Quoc Huong. Just an FYI. So this place is on the outskirts of Gwinnett Place Mall. It will be in a cluster with other stores and businesses. I believe it's in the complex call Gwinnett Station (?). It's sort of at the intersection of Market Street and Satellite Blvd. Banh Mi Cafe is on the end of one of the strips. Parking is on the lesser end of the spectrum, but don't worry about needing to park far. This strip isn't popular so there will be enough parking.

Came here on a night where my gf and i were the only customers so that should have been a sign not to go in. Food was bad. We ordered pho, banh mi, and bo luc lac. Pho. Soup was salty and the noodles were definitely reheated up and tossed in the soup. You can easily tell when it's all lumped together like it's been in a plastic wrap. Beef was also very rough. Banh mi bbq pork. The bread was amazing. The pork? Not so much. Couldn't really taste it at all. Felt it was lacking flavor. Bo luc lac wasn't good either. The display of the food was like a regular com da biet dish which it wasn't. I prefer nam phuong's. Even i luv pho isn't too bad. The tap water that was served to us also had a funny taste I didn't have the shits afterwards so i guess it was safe to eat
(2)Brandon G.
This place was good and a nice value with their deal. You have to make sure they get your order right though. A few of our sandwiches were completely the wrong thing!
(4)Toni W.
Great sandwich! Lots of banh mi variations - I enjoyed the egg and avocado. Casual spot and the price is right. The pho looked great, too - I'll give it a try next time!
(5)Vincent V.
If you like banh mi this place is a must for you. They have 19 versions of the sandwich that I recently learned was an inspiration to the Vietnamese by the French during the colonial period. It is such an amazing mashup of baguette, veggies and meats. They do a great job on the two sandwiches I tired and I promised the friendly owner I would be back to explore some more items. Will report back soon-
(5)Alex C.
I love how they toast their bun and their meat is actually cooked to a crisp but moist tenderness. So I went with the wife and the American owner/waiter greeted us. You get water in a clean glass and the menus are a little sticky. I ordered a classic b2 banh mi with pork. Their banh mi sandwiches are awesome. Crispy baguette. Fresh and toasted mayo. Veggies are fresh although a little lacking on daikon. Next time i will ask for more daikon. The bun is toasted but not to the point where it is too hard to bite through. I was picking up bread crumbs after I finished my sandwich. Like those perfectly toasted pbj sandwiches you made as a kid. We also got spring rolls (they have tons of variety). Avacado, veggie, shrimp, pork... Big size. Very good. The place isn't the most inviting/cozy/hip joint around. Not for fancy lunches or dinners. Just for gooood food. Definitely my new banh mi shop in the duluth area. I will try the pho next time.
(5)Colleen B.
Very good! I had Pho Ga and a BBQ Bahn Mi for $10. Not the must quaint place more like a mom and pop shop. Those are usually the best.
(4)Charles P.
Unprepossessing appearance belies the truly good and authentic food to be had here. Don't let the strip mall location and downscale appearance fool you. Here you pay for simply good food without the pricey ambiance. The banh mi sandwiches, rice dishes, and spring rolls are really good. You won't regret.
(4)Khoi T.
One of the best Banh Mi in Ga if you love Quoc Huong Banh Mi. Now I can enjoy traditional Banh mi close by rather than traveling down to Buford Highway to fulfill my craving. I have not try other dishes at the store but if you like Viet sandwiches, this is the place.
(5)Priya P.
A coworker and I just tried this place for lunch and it was great! We started with an order of spring rolls. As another reviewer pointed out they are small, but you also get six for less than three dollars which I found very reasonable. The rolls were good, not greasy, and nice and crisp on the outside. I wouldn't say they're a must have item though. The bhan mi's on the other hand are amazing! We split a chargrilled chicken bhan mi and the special bhan mi. Both came in baguette like bread that was crisp on the outside and soft inside. The chicken one was delicious, it had a good amount of meat and the sauce had a really tasty flavor. The special was also good, this one had a lot more fresh vegetables and relied more on the meats for flavor than sauce like in the chicken bahn mi. Overall for $3-$4 for a 8in sandwich you really can't go wrong!

The text started with "Have you ever had a Vietnamese sandwich?" And ended with seeing each other in a little pocket of Duluth that could be mistaken for Little Vietnam. Ok I am exaggerating about the décor, but this café is still cute and the food is definitely authentic. I found out about this place two years ago when it first opened. They had a scout mob. When I was looking at the scout mob, it said they feature a banana thai smoothie. My friend and I were in shock! We HAD to try it! So after class or skipping class one day, not sure exactly which one, we ended up having lunch here. We were excited about these smoothies, but they were out that day. Womp womp... However, we ended up having amazing pho and fresh spring rolls with thai iced tea instead. My friend's pho was too authentic for her, but my pho ga was perfect. Years later, I am back with my friend looking for a relatively healthy sandwich and we end up here again. I finally got to try the Banana Thai Smoothie years later and it was definitely amazing! Thai tea and banana make an interesting mix. We also tried the BBQ Pork Spring Rolls which were on the sweeter side. I didn't think the peanut sauce really went with them because the peanut and sweet bbq didn't really mix, but they are good by themselves and they tasted really fresh with the cilantro. For our banh mi sandwiches, which most are either $3.00 or $4.00 so they're definitely economical, I tried the grilled shrimp one and my friend tried the spicy bbq pork one. Both were great! I have only had a few banh mi sandwiches and the spice level was perfect for me, because the last banh mi sandwich I had was way too spicy. Do Vietnamese people like their foods spicy similar to Indians? I love trying to find cultural similarities and differences. On a side note, this location is closed on Thursdays and a lot of Indian places are closed on Mondays. Anyways, I enjoyed my shrimp banh mi because of the seasoning on the shrimp. For dessert we got banana fried spring rolls. They were interesting also, but I think I was already full by the time I ate these. The owner Michael is super nice and his wife Chef Ngoc Thi is so cute! She brought out the banana spring rolls to us. We were the only ones in the store and you can tell the couple who own this place really care about the quality of their food, the experience of their customers, and the different dishes that they have. They have so many different types of banh mis and phos that I will have to come back to try one of their more creative dishes. My friend and I were hanging out for a while and the owner was really nice and let us try some blood orange and grapefruit pelliginos for free. This is an awesome place that I would highly recommend to others looking for a quality Vietnamese sandwich or food in Duluth!

FIRST IMPRESSIONS REVIEW* ZOMG STUPID cheap Banh Mi sammiches... 1st star - Cheap everything, esp. the Banh Mi sandwiches -- $3 to $4. Extra meat is only $1 to $2. 2nd star - Adorable tiny fried egg rolls. 3rd star - Perfect for a quick lunch. 4th star - Overheard between the staff during lunch -- "I'll teach you how to spell in Vietnamese later..." Lost 5th star - Ordering / paying is a wee bit disorganized. Will I be back? - YES Should you go? - YES * - First impressions reviews are my way of visiting a place once and getting a feel for it.

This is hands down my favorite sandwhich spot in Norcross!!! The staff here is phenomenal and extremely friendly time and time again!!! You cant beat the prices and you will love the fresh quality... Enjoy my favorite place in town!!! Best wishes, The Great Gordini

Do not leave Duluth without stopping into this amazing Vietnamese spot. It's a no frills restaurant with delicious spring rolls, slow-roasted pho broth, and some of the best fresh made bubble tea I've had. I almost forgot the bahn mi sandwiches! Only $3 and packed full of flavorful meats and veggies. The owner is a wonderful woman who spent making pho off Buford highway for 18 years. She's the best in the biz. Stop in once and you'll find yourself making excuses to find your way back!

I've been a here three times now and so far everything I have had has been good. I was there a few days ago. I ordered a bbq pork banh mi with egg and a Bun Bo Hue. I had both to go. The soup was tasty...had a lot of depth in flavor. Still remained hot after my 10 minute drive back to work. The spice was on point. The noodles, the meat, the basil, bean sprouts and lime were in a separate container than the soup, which I appreciated. I did wish there was a bit more noodle, but it was by no means a tiny portion. The banh mi was yummy. It had a good portion of meat, the bread was nice and crusty and the pickled vegetables were not overpowering. The lot was $12 and change. The noodle soup and sandwich would have been enough for two. But, being the piggy I am, I ate it all myself. They suggest that you call ahead of time to pick up your order. I tried, but a recording kept coming on. while I was waiting for my food other people had called ahead to get their orders in. Guess it was just me. If you're looking for a quick, tasty meal then you should try this place. If you're a fan of banh mi, then you shouldn't be disappointed.

Like many other Yelpers who love banh mi I know where to go to get great banh mi. I frequently visit Quoc Huong, Lee's Bakery , and VN tofu depending on where I am traveling for the day. I was excited to see so many great reviews for Banh Mi Cafe and wanted to try a new place. I was even more excited to try a different variation of the banh mi. I usually just always get the thit nuong, but I was curious to try something new. I ordered 5 to get the 6th one free for takeout. I actually only ate the Avocado and Egg banh mi and the pineapple banh mi. I ordered extra thit nuong on the side to add to my sandwich. They were generous with the ingredients which I like! I love to load up on the pickled daikon and carrots. I enjoyed talking to the owner who was friendly. He suggested I add Gouda cheese to some of the different banh mi, and I will have to try that next time. (It's not on the menu but you can request it)I am a fan of cheese and Gouda sounds amazing on a banh mi. I also had the spring rolls which could be the the best and freshest spring rolls I have had in a long time. I don't go into any vietnamese restaurant without ever ordering springs rolls. The spring rolls alone deserve 5 stars. I also enjoyed my Com chien dac biet (fried rice combo). It wasn't loaded with soy sauce, butter, or oil. I only took off 1 star, because I had to wait a very long time for my order. They were understaffed when I was there. I will call ahead next time . I appreciated their friendliness and frequent updates my order and the fact that they take pride in providing authentic and fresh Vietnamese cuisine made to order. I also thought it was nice of the owner who is American to try and speak vietnamese when he can. It shows he respects the culture and people in trying to do so. This casual vietnamese spot is definitely ranked up there as one of the best places for banh mi. I will be back to dine next time and curious to try other dishes when I am back in the area.

Love this place! Small enough operation that they greet by name. Great food, great value. Check them out! You won't be disappointed!!!

I grew up eating bahn xeo. I was excited about seeing this on the menu. I place my order to go and when I got home and ready to eat it, I notice they put mushroom and bell pepper in this dish. Seriously?! please keep it traditional!!

Banh Mi Cafe is located in a small retail strip plaza on Satellite Blvd sort of across the street from QT. It is located just off of Pleasant Hill Rd near Gwinnett Place Mall. It occupies the corner retail space of a strip mall right next to an Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I had been to the service department of the car dealerhip I purchased my vehicle at getting an oil change (located nearby). My original plan had been to get a baguette sandwich at Geirgia French Bakery (which ended up being closed that day). But I saw that Bahn Mi Café was open and buzzing with activity (always a good sign). Bahn Mi Café is a smallish, quiet, and casual restaurant that serves more than just bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). The restaurant actually has a well-rounded menu of various Vietnamese cuisine (Read Daniel B's review). Everything is affordably priced. There are over a dozen varieties of banh mi, most at $3 per sandwich. Like other banh mi shops, the more you buy, the more you save. I forget exactly what the deal is, but it's one of those "buy X amount of sandwiches and get one free." There are over a half dozen types of pho and you can add additional meats to your pho at $1 per meat. Other entrees cost about $7-8 each. I tried both the bahn mi (BBQ pork) and pho (#1 with everything). Both were very good. Banh mis are made from French baguette bread and include meat(s), mayo, pate, shredded carrots and daikon radish, cilantro, sliced cucumber, and slices of jalapeno. Bahn Mi Cafe's bahn mi sandwich has Frech baguette bread unlike the others; I don't know how to describe it but it seems fresher than that of other similar banh mi places. The banh mi veggies are sufficiently fresh and the ingredient proportions are good. The pho I ordered (#1) had with eye round steak, flank, tendon, brisket, and tripe. Pho sides include culantro, basil, bean sprouts, and lime. The accompaniment of herbs are fresh. The restaurant is small, the decor is simple, and the atmosphere is laid back. I think this place could do a lot better job of wiping down tables (they were sticky) as well as cleaning the condiment bottles . The servers are nice and polite; the food comes out from the kitchen fast. The owner is a big talkative American guy (self professed "Georgia Redneck") and you'll probably see him (or at least hear him talking away) on your visit. He does a little bit of everything - taking orders, working in the kitchen, and ringing up tabs at the register. He does occasionally try to upsell menu items (he tried to get me to order spring rolls after I had eaten a banh mi and a small pho). I think he is married to one of the Vietnamese women who works there. Perhaps really deserves 3.5 stars. but I will round up to 4 rather than down to 3.

This is my fav banh mi spot! If you love banh mi you must try Banh Mi Café! My fav is B2 on the menu; It's Banh Mi BBQ pork. I have also tried the shrimp egg rolls, also really good. Mango smoothie is delicious as well. You must try!
(5)Lala D.
Was in the area and decided to try this place because it had been recommended for their bahn mi. Staff friendly, food came out fast. Ordered to go. Loved that they kept everything separate for the pho. Packaged well and made it home without spilling a drop. Happy to see a large portion of chicken, very fresh vegetables and herbs. On the down side, the bread for the bahn mi was so hard i couldn't enjoy it. Dissapointed.. but also served with fresh veggies. Also i didn't like that i could only order the large pho for take out. Medium could not be ordered. Oh well, i have left overs. I would rate more had it not been for the bread.

Fresh vegetables, cook to order meals, at pocket friendly prices: is the under writing definition of Vietnamese cuisine. Today was my first time at Bańh Mà Cafe with my husband. I ordered Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gia and my husband ordered a Banh Mi Dac Biet with a fried egg on top. Everything was delicious and just how I remembered growing up in southern California, where the choices of traditional Vietnamese cuisine was endless. I look forward to trying more food soon!

I stop here every time I am in the area driving down 85. Their Bahn mi's are cheap, fast and delicious. I usually buy 4 and then you get the fifth for free. The rolls are crunchy and fresh as are the veggies and shrimp.
(5)Young Cheol S.
If you are after the great Bahn Mi, this place is very hard to beat. Pho on the other hand caught me completely off guard. No taste of MSG is present in the soup, very fresh and full of flavors! It's quite sad to see the restaurant like this being empty during the peak hours, however one of the best place for me to get a Pho fix.
(4)Michael S.
One of the best banh mi places in Atlanta.

I was disgusted when I step foot into Banh Mi Cafe for the first time this past weekend for lunch. No one was in the restaurant, not even a customer during lunch peak. The restaurant was dirty from table to floor, from the front of the space to the back. The floor was greasy. My chair slid on its own! The table was filthy. The sandwich counter was covered in clutter. Cardboard boxes everywhere, giant bins stacked on top of the counter. That's where they make the sandwiches. The lady who made my sandwich was talking on her cell phone in Vietnamese on speaker! She was loud and very unprofessional. I was disgusted. The health rating was no where in sight. I wonder why. I ordered the "dac biet" or special banh mi. It was packed with meat and carrots. The baguette was fresh, crispy and chewy but the overload of meat, carrots, pate and butter grossed me out. I felt like I was eating a fat man's sandwich. Although I ate it, I was more worried of getting food poisoning afterwards. I would recommend they clean up the restaurant. The amount of fillings in my banh mi was enough to make 2 or 3 banh mi. The worker or owner should stop taking personal calls on speaker.

"Of all the Banh Mi joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine." Humphrey Bogart, Casablanca. I love the fact that Banh Mi joints are opening up all around town. If you have never had a Vietnamese sandwich, I would suggest you stop reading now and go get one. I found Banh Mi Cafe after taking a wrong turn, which actually means I made the right turn, proving that even when i am wrong, I am right. (In case you were questioning my Humphrey Bogart quote) The only dilemma was that it was about 11AM, a little too late for breakfast, yet to early for lunch. I ordered a Banh Mi sandwich and Vietnamese coffee, two of my favorite things. Problem solved. Banh Mi Cafe offers a couple of vegetarian sandwich options outside of the standard tofu, so i asked them to make me a tofu and pineapple Banh Mi. It came dressed with the traditional accompaniments; carrots, daikon, cilantro, cucumber, and jalapenos. The sandwich was super fresh and super flavorful, the bread was good as well. The coffee was a bit of a weak spot here, not bad, just okay. Sandwich and coffee came out a little over $5. There was a bit of a language barrier in ordering, since I do not speak Vietnamese, but the smiles on the young ladies working spoke for themselves. They were glad I was there, and so was I. I will definitely make the "wrong" turn again when in the area.

This place impressed me through and through! Upon walking in, my guest and I were immediately greeted by the owner. We selected our seats and he brought us water and gave us time to pick what we wanted. My sister and I have been looking for a restaurant that served other types of banh mi other than the default banh mi thit nuong. We have found our new banh mi establishment here! My sister ordered the banh mi dac biet, I ordered the nem nuong and to solidify our homage to our motherland, we added the cafe sua da. Not going to lie, our expectations were low considering have been to other places that did not meet up to par. So wrong! We were shocked at how delicious the coffee was and blown away at how this place quickly brought us back to when we lived in Vietnam (we were born in the states but lived in VN for a short time). From the taste of the banh mi, the coffee cup and spoon, to the TV channel being set to the Vietnamese station. Other establishments have lost its authenticity by playing club music (with cuss words and beats that will give you a headache 2 seconds in). There were lots of specials, customers can order via phone and prices weren't bad at all. Delicious food, amazing atmosphere and charming staff. 10/10 would (am going to) dine here again.

Banh Mi Cafe opened late 2012 in a small strip mall on Satellite Blvd. just off of Pleasant Hill Rd. It occupies the corner space of the strip mall and isn't too hard to find. It's in between Enterprise Rent-A-Car and the strip mall with Korean hot pot restaurant Gom Shabu Shabu. This is a quiet, casual restaurant that serves more than just bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). The restaurant actually has a well-rounded menu of various Vietnamese cuisine including cha gio and goi cuon (Vietnamese spring rolls), pho (noodle soup), bun (vermicelli noodle plates), com (rice plates), hu tieu (clear rice noodle soup), mi (egg noodle soups and plates), and Vietnamese drinks (e.g. coffee, pennywort drink) and smoothies. Unfortunately, I didn't see any che (pudding) on the menu. Everything is affordably priced. There are over a dozen varieties of banh mi, most at $3 per sandwich. Like other banh mi shops, the more you buy, the more you save. I forget exactly what the deal is, but it's one of those "buy X amount of sandwiches and get one free." Pho is priced at $7.25 for a large bowl and $6.00 for a medium bowl. There are over a half dozen types of pho and you can add additional meats to your pho at $1 per meat. That's an option you don't see at most pho restaurants. Other entrees cost about $7-8 each. I've tried both the bahn mi and pho and generally, they are okay. The one thing that stands out to me about them is they taste homemade. The banh mi isn't greasy and loaded with butter and the pho broth is less pronounced. My favorite type of dish to order at Vietnamese restaurants it the "dac biet" version of each dish. In this case, banh mi dac biet and pho dac biet. This loosely translates into banh mi and pho "with everything." Banh mis are made from French baguette bread and include meat(s), mayo, pate, shredded carrots and daikon radish, cilantro, sliced cucumber, and slices of jalapeno. I believe the meats in the dac biet ("special combination" on the menu) are all pork-based (e.g. steamed pork, roast pork, etc.). Compared to other banh mis I've had in Atlanta (and I've had a lot: yelp.com/list/cam-on-vie… ), Bahn Mi Cafe's version has one of the softest breads (win). It is also one of the more sloppily put-together banh mis I've encountered, though that isn't a complaint, just an observation. The banh mi veggies are sufficiently fresh and the ingredient proportions are good. The meats do taste a bit funny (old?) to me. It's a tasty sandwich otherwise. The pho dac biet comes with eye round steak, flank, tendon, brisket, and tripe. As mentioned previously, the broth is less pronounced. A lot of pho broth in Atlanta can be pretty strong, flavorful, and aromatic. Banh Mi Cafe's version is definitely on the milder side. I do like how their pho comes with plenty of scallions and onion slices. You don't get that at every pho restaurant. Pho sides include culantro, basil, bean sprouts, and lime. They don't give much culantro (but you can ask for more) and jalapeno is nowhere to be seen. Oh well, I'm sure you can ask for jalapeno too. The sides are adequately fresh. The pho noodles are a tad too soft (perhaps overcooked?) and, like the banh mi, the meat isn't the greatest quality, though I'm nitpicking. Still, it's not a bad bowl of pho. I do like the plethora of condiments at each table including the standard Vietnamese pho condiments of Sriracha and hoisin sauce. One thing Banh Mi Cafe has on its tables that not every pho restaurant has is the red chili paste. Not only that, but their red chili paste has an extra kick to it. I want to say it's infused with habanero. It's spicier than the typical red chili paste or sambal. If you like spicy food, try it. The restaurant is small, the decor is simple, and the atmosphere is laid back. The actually reminds me of a typical restaurant you'd find on the street in Southeast Asia. There is a TV playing Vietnamese programs. I think they could do a better job wiping down the tables (they've been sticky) and cleaning the condiment bottles (I've seen dried cilantro and peppers on them). The servers are nice and polite and the food comes out from the kitchen fast. The owner is American and you'll probably see him on your visit. He does a little bit of everything from taking orders, working in the kitchen, to ringing people up at the register. He occasionally tries to upsell menu items. Credit cards are accepted, though I'm unsure of the minimum amount.

I love this place. I use to come here for lunch twice a week when I was going to college. Banh Mi sandwiches for $3? Yes please! I love supporting little mom and pop shops and other small, family-owned businesses. I love their bun bo hue! I usually get an order of bun bo hue and a banh mi dac biet. They also offer a free banh mi if you order 4 or 5 banh mis.

Great- awesome place keep in mind small and strip shopping center next to Gwinnett place mall Detailed info from Michael the owner your wish is automatically fulfilled! Do try something new today-

We stopped here on our way through Atlanta. Place was empty but it was a Monday night around 8. Perhaps that's normal for the area - other places seemed lightly occupied as we were driving around. We ordered several Bahn Mi sandwiches. They were quite yummy/tasty. I would suggest reviewing the meat options since there are several. We asked for traditional. This came with pork lunch meat - would have preferred sliced pork. My son had a beef pho and recommends it. Had a nice conversation with owner/co-owner - very friendly and entertaining - obviously very pationate. Found out he went to my high school in Tampa - small world!! Over all - good place - will definitely come back

We stopped in here for banh mi, but when I saw that they also had pho I decided to go for that. Our server described the beef in the pho tai as being very rare but cooked from the heat of the soup, which sounded wonderful, but the meat was actually rather gray and chewy. The broth was very tasty, and I enjoyed the meal, but I don't think the steak was adding anything at all to the dish. We also had spring rolls because my lady friend only ordered a banh mi, and the veggies tasted very fresh and crisp. I'll probably be back to try some of their other offerings, and I may even have another go with another variety of pho.

Came here for a quick bite on Saturday afternoon. It was our first time and near Je Ju spa. There was maybe three tables full. I ordered the n1 which was a combination beef pho soup with shrimp spring for appetizers, and my friend had the spicy bun Bo hue soup. It took at least 20 minutes for our soup and appetizer to arrive at the same time. We were both disappointed by the soup, because it was very bland. We expected more flavor like the soup at Dai Loi on Buford highway. Later, we ordered chicken and pork banh mi sandwiches. We figured we can't go wrong since the place is called "banh mi cafe". The sandwiches were dry and the meat was tough. We will not be back.

Small place but absolutely delicious food!!!!!! Amazing quality! The owner is very friendly as well.

This place is pretty decent, It's my first time. Place is small so it's hard to fit a group with 5+. Had the banh mi avocado with egg and it was pretty good. Bread was not as crunchy and not enough meat paste or vegetables. There's some dark yellow sauce on the banh mi and didn't know if it was spicy mayo.
(4)Mindy R.
I love authentic Vietnamese food!!!! Banh Mi were delicious...more tasty than Quoc Huong in Buford Highway. You definitely have to try their Pho. One of the BEST I have ever tasted!!! Wayyyy better than "I luv pho" or "what the pho"...no msg that I could taste...(in which I didnt feel sleepy after eating there). Service is excellent and friendly. They make you feel like your at home. Best new place to try out!!

I've been coming here the 6-8 months and have enjoyed the food! I like what I like so I haven't tried a lot of different dishes but the Pho soup and Banh Mi sandwiches are super yummy! I could eat them every day. And the prices are Very reasonable.. I am so glad I found this place and will continue to come back..
(5)E'riana K.
Tried their rice and steak. It was alright. I will give it another chance and try their pho. I heard its good.
(3)Lillie N.
This a good place for banh mi. I had to edit my review because the quality of food went down but the banh mi is still good.

Last time I came here, I rated 4 stars even though I didn't get the veggies on the side on three of my banh mi either. During that time, my husband complained about the meats tasting old. I haven't come back in a while so I decided to come back check it out again. This time, I could really taste the meats being off flavor, taste old. It really sucked cause the flavors on the spread were on point. My hubby complained about it more this time so I have to stop coming here to get banh mi. Not only that, the wait was just too long for me to grab some banh mi. I waited close to 30 mins! The staff and owner are really nice but I just don't have the time to go grab banh mi and wait that long. Especially now since the meats still taste old.
(3)Susan S.
Service was a little lacking, as in we had to wait a bit to order and couldn't find the staff to ask for our check, but we didn't mind. I had the vietnamese beef stew and the bf had the bbq pork banh mi. I tasted his and thought the banh mi was great - crispy on the outside, soft on the inside baguette and excellent char sieu, but the bf for some reason wasn't impressed and still remains a die hard fan of pho 24's banh mi. My spicy beef stew, on the other hand, was also great. I enjoyed the thick noodles and it was spiced perfectly (as in runny nose spicy). The broth was a bit different and not a favorite, and I had to take out the congealed pork blood as I'm not a fan, but the meats were good and the portion was great, I had to take some of it home. Overall, I would visit again if in the area :)

I am happy to have found a place in metro Atlanta where I can get vegan banh mi and fresh spring rolls! The menu does not specify what is in their fresh spring rolls, but when I asked they told me they could put whatever I wanted in them. I have tried them with both tofu and avocado and they are so good. I love the peanut dipping sauce served with them. The sandwiches are very inexpensive, large and tasty. My partner enjoys the pho, but I assume there is not a vegetarian option on that, so I can not speak to the tastiness of it. I heard some talk of a new menu coming soon last time I was there.
(4)Christopher C.
Name says it all. This is a Bahn Mi place. Although they do offer other dish such as Pho, but I would not recommend it. I tried the pho twice, though consistent it's a subpar rating from me. Now as for the Bahn Mi, it's awesome.
(4)Lana P.
YUM YUM YUM! Love their banh mi sandwiches! The pho broth isn't the best I've had but I absolutely love that my husband, son, and I can pig out for about $20!! If you are looking for fancy or upscale this is definitely not the place! But if you are looking for good reasonably priced food this is your spot! The gentlemen who owns the restaurant is very kind and helpful!!
(4)Rose N.
I ordered the combination, the BBQ pork, the sugarcane shrimp and the Vietnamese garlic sausage banh mi and they were a big hit with everyone. I like that they have regular sliced pork instead of the pre-made cold cut a lot of banh mi's places uses. My friend mentioned that he liked the chunky pate, it might be a bit too strong for people that don't care for the taste of liver (not sure if it was chicken or pig's liver). There was also no headcheese which is good as I don't like it. I also ordered a "bun bo Hue" and that was excellent, very spicy with a good amount of meat, the blood cubes are included but no pig trotter. Everyone loved what they ordered and we'll definitely be back! Service was good considering I ordered right before they close.

I might have found a new favorite Vietnamese joint for Banh Mi and other dishes! -happy dance- A hidden gem located off Satellite Blvd in a plaza right off the street that's kind of tucked away. The sign is very visible and catchy with the red lettering so you probably won't miss it. This is a Vietnamese restaurant with an extensive menu serving: rice entrees, banh mi (Vietnamese baguettes), soup noodles (pho and other authentic favorites), vermicelli, and smoothies with tapioca pearls. Although the name is BANH MI CAFE, they do serve other Vietnamese items. INTERIOR: Fairly medium-sized restaurant. Well-lit when I dined in around 10 p.m. Overall, clean tables and floors. Very warm vibe with the color of the wall and decor. FOOD: I came to try this place out with some cousins after have passing many times and hearing about it. It definitely did not disappoint. So far, I've only tried the Banh Mi Dac Biet (special) and Banh Mi Nem Nuong (Vietnamese sweet sausage) and it was on point. What else can I say? You have to try it for yourself! I'll definitely be back to try more items. This place has some Vietnamese entrees other places don't have like the Mi Quang (Tumeric Noodles) and Bun Rieu (Vermicelli in a crab and tomato broth)!

Service: Went here on a Tuesday night to grab a quick bite. I walked up and noticed they closed 2 minutes before I arrived. As I walked back to my car, the owner called for me saying its okay for me to come in. This is a huge plus since I hate restaurants that "close" at 9PM but employees lock the the doors at 8:45. Food: Great food, even better price. It's my first time getting Banh Mi, so I don't have much to compare it to. However, for $3 a sandwich that will fill you up, its a small risk to try them. I'll come back here for sure.

I was craving bun bo hue (spicy Vietnamese noodle soup) last night and usually go to a place up the street from here for it but decided to try this place out since there's a scout mob deal for it. I asked my parents to join my husband and I for dinner since they don't live too far from here. We met up at 7 and the place wasn't busy. There was about two other tables filled. One of the tables was finished and waiting for their check. Our waters were brought out to us shorty after being seated. That was the only quick thing about our service last night. Our server was super friendly but the whole experience last night was horrible! We ordered egg rolls as an appetizer and for our entrees I had the bun bo hue, my husband had a medium sized bowl of the pho dac biet(rice noodle soup with a combination of different cuts of beef) and my parents each had the mi quang(yellow noodle soup dish with quail eggs, shrimp, chicken and pork). It took a long time for our food to come out especially considering how they weren't busy at all. The egg rolls were super tiny(see picture) and way too salty. I figured that they would be small since the menu stated 6 egg rolls for $1.95 but didn't think that they'd be the size of your pinky small! My entree was ok flavor wise but I didn't like how the onions weren't sliced thinly,(I ended up with unappetizing big chunks of raw onion in my soup). Also, there was a random shrimp in my soup! Bun bo hue does NOT come with shrimp(see picture). According to my husband, his entree was ok flavor wise. The portion size however was super small and ended up with a piece of yellow noodle in it(see picture-pho is made with white noodles). It seemed that they somehow managed to add bits and pieces of my parents entrees into both my husband and I's entrees. Both of my parents didn't like their dish. Also, my mom's entree ended up having a piece of my soup's meat in her dish. We probably should've known better and just ended our evening there and got our check, but we decided to order some banh mi(Vietnamese style sandwiches) to go. After all, the place is called Banh Mi Cafe. We went ahead and placed our order before we finished our meals since it took forever for our food to come out. Even though we placed our to go order way in advance, it still took forever for our banh mis to be ready. We ordered a total of 6 sandwiches(buy 5 get 1 free). It's a good thing that we checked our sandwiches before leaving because they managed to screw up our to go order, not only once but twice! Our server did apologize for the incident but at that point I was just over the whole situation! Service was super slow and the whole place seems extremely unorganized. I gave them two stars because the sandwiches are good, but definitely not good enough to bring me back!

This place is Ok. I have passed this place many times. Then I found the scout mob and decided to walk in. I assume by the name of the place it just sells sandwiches. Well I was wrong. The first visit I ordered a med Pho tai( steak noodle soup) and egg rolls. The Pho was solid plenty of meat. The egg rolls were lacking and were in small bite size. The second visit I order Banh Mi Tai and Special Combination. The Tai sandwich is sum what like a a viet steak sandwich. Both were solid. Over all it not a bad place there sandwiches are sum what to Lees Sandwiches.

Banh Mi Cafe (BMC) is a hidden gem and easy to miss on Satellite Boulevard near Gwinnett Mall. Simply look for their location at a shopping strip next to Enterprise Rent-A-Car. They serve authentic Vietnamese cuisine and the times that I have been here, I have not been disappointed. I was introduced to this place by a friend of mine. The following items on the menu I have tried are: Appetisers: Tom Cuon ($3) These are two shrimp rolls that are tasty and it came with a side hoisin sauce with bits of peanuts as your dipping sauce. Each spring roll had four huge shrimps and vegetables tucked inside the roll. They are a healthier choice with no frying oil involved. Beverages: Banana Mango smoothie, Coconut smoothie ($3.50) Both these smoothies I tried were great! They are thick in their consistencies and not watered down. It's especially good during the hot summer months. Bahn Mi Sandwiches: Bahn Mi Nem Nuong ($3.50) This sandwich had the eight inch French baguette that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was filled with Vietnamese sweet sausages and some shredded vegetable likes fresh carrots, cilantro, daikon, cucumber and jalapeno. There were some mayonnaise and pate spread that added lots of flavor to a delicious sandwich. Pho: Pho Tai ($6) My Vietnamese beef noodle soup had eye round steak as the choice of protein with noodles and a medley of vegetables like fresh cilantro, basil, onions and bean sprouts. The broth had a nice taste and was not too overpowering with spices. There is always a bottle of hot spicy sauce on the table if you wanted to kick it up a notch or two. Bun: Bun Tom Nuong Cha Gio ($7.75) Grilled shrimps and egg rolls with Vermicelli noodles were simply delicious with some fresh vegetables and a side fish sauce to add on more flavor accordingly. The shrimps were grilled just right and were very tasty and tender. Egg rolls came in very small bite sizes and I would have prefered the regular egg rolls made and cut to small pieces instead. There were shredded carrots, lettuce and fried onions that blended well with the Vermicelli noodles. The fish sauce was tangy with sweet and spicy goodness that I had to request for another dipping sauce. It's a pure, pungent yet subdued nectar sent from the fermented fish gods to grace our breaths and Viet inspired dishes. Com: Com Chien Bo Luc Lac ($8.95) You cannot go wrong ordering this dish. The fried rice was served with marinated "shaking beef" tenderloins that was stir-fried to perfection. There were fresh grilled bell peppers, caramelized onions, red peppers and lettuce added to make the entire dish wonderful. I would most certainly order this dish again and again. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners of this small mom and pop restaurant. The chef herself told me she enjoyed cooking Vietnamese food for almost two decades. That is quite an accomplishment and the food served here is very fresh and authentic to Vietnamese cuisine. The ambience is a casual setting and it is actually bigger on the inside than it looked on the outside. I will surely be back to BMC soon especially when I am hungry for a flavorful yet inexpensive meal. I have always been here on weekends and the food comes out very quickly with a smile from the friendly staff. This place is closed on Mondays but stays open till 9 pm daily and a bit longer till 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Maybe I will see you there next time! Yelp 65/365

Very Good quality food, the service is fast a good, the place was clean. Very affordable prices. I recommend the C5 on the menu.

Order the Banh Mi thit nuong with nem nuong and add an egg! The banh mi was a good size and had all the necessary toppings. Everything tasted fresh and it was in good portions. I also tried the Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef noodle soup). The broth had good flavor and it was a generous size for one so we were able to share. However, the beef wasn't very tender and I hated the texture of it. Everything should have been cut into more eatable pieces instead of huge chunks. They do give you a plate of the herbs that go with the dish, plus the shrimp paste. I would give this dish 3 and a half stars. Service was decent, I was surprised to see an American waiting and greeting customers but he was prompt and helpful. I will be back the next time I get a banh mi craving!

This is a great addition to the Pleasant Hill dining spectrum. The Vietnamese and American couple take great pride in their food and keep the prices where Vietnamese food should be, affordable. They have great Banh Mi here. For sure one of the best in Gwinnett. I always get the BBQ Pork, and it is phenom. Fresh bread, and fresh BBQ Pork and veggies. Really good. I have also tried the spring rolls and egg rolls and both are great. The egg rolls are the small bite size variety. This size is much more common in Vietnam and at the Viet/Chinese joint in Paris. I really like these crisp delights. Their entrees are nice as well. On my last visit I had the Shaken Beef which consisted of mildly marinated filet meat coupled with a very nice lightly-fried fried rice. Too often in American Chinese and Viet joints I find the fried rice too heavy and oily. Bahn Mi's fried rice was like what I am accustom to overseas, light and delicious. I have had the Pho once and it was good but for sure for me the items mentioned above are the first and foremost reasons to come here. Enjoy!
(5)Deuk L.
The Vietnamese dishes here are excellent. The Bahn Mi options here are the best in this area. I didn't appreciate the perfectly toasted French bread, and the perfectly moist inside with the delicious sauce and vegetables until I tried Lee's Bakery (don't go here, more expensive and Bahn mi is nowhere close to Bahn Mi cafe) down on pleasant hill not too far away. This place is the real deal. Only $3 for a 8-inch sandwich... Beats Subway's $5 foot long to me. Healthier, tastier, and the Bahn mi goes great with a good hot bowl of pho on a cold day. This place reminds me of the Bahn Mi's I can get on Buford Hwy in Doraville.

I love this place it's tradition Vietnamese food . Small little restaurant but the food is amazing compare to others

Loved it and will never get tired of coming here. How I wish I live close by and I'll be here often. The price is great and the servers are great!

So I have been here a few times already & the service is really friendly. It is a small family owned restaurant, so do not expect top of the line service. It has one dollar sign. The banh mi is not as cheap as Quoc Huong, but the drive down there cost the same as paying $3-$4 for a banh mi instead of $2.50. They taste pretty similar since the chef is from Quong Huong. If I am around doraville I will go to Quoc Huong, if I am in Gwinnett I will come here. The bun bo hue is very spicy in my opinion and the portion is a bit smaller than da loi 3. I still like da loi's more. I have had the banh mi dac biet and that is my usual and favorite. I tried the sugarcane shrimp banh mi and really liked it. It might be my new usual. It was something different. I have had the chicken one and I think its gross. It is shredded fine bits of chicken. My mom had the banh mi thit nuong and loved it. The portion of the banh mi are always different. Some times it is a lot, some time not as much. It's $3 what do you expect. Also, they have the buy 5 banh mi, get 1 free. Their smoothies are also good, but too thick in my opinion even if i mention light ice. My teeth are super sensitive to ice. I have had the durian & banana thai tea smoothie. Both very good. The bonus part of eating here is going on scoutmob and getting their 50% coupon. Cheapest meal I have had in a while. The restaurant is also trying to have a banh mi eating contest, whoever wins gets money or gift certificates. Overall, give this place a try! Best Banh Mi Joint in Gwinnett. It is also a cheap eat!

No No No. I've passed this place several times but was very skeptical about coming in until yesterday due to all the great review it got on Yelp. I was highly excited because I love Banh Mi to no ends and could eat it every day, right next to my plate of spaghetti. Anyways, they have the special of buy 5, get the 6th one free so I did that. Avocado and Pineapple Banh Mi sounded enticing at the moment so I got one of each, along with 2 grilled chicken and 2 Dac Biet (Special Combination of everything). The Avocado basically has a smear of mashed avocado spread on both side rather than pates, which I'm sure is fairly exciting for the vegetarians. I love avocado but it seems like it's missing that extra oompf in there, I can't pin point exactly what and so I moved on to the pineapple sandwich. This one is even more interesting. I have to admit that it is refreshing, but I immediately needed protein. It got me craving for my meat because it wasn't satisfying at all. My palate was confused... I haven't tried the chicken yet, but the Dac Biet sandwich had way too much pate smear on there that it overwhelms the rest of the meat. Let me tell you about the actual baguette while I was trying out these sandwiches... it was hard like a rock, so my mouth got cut up left and right. My gum is now sore... You know it's over toasted when you break the sandwich in half, the whole damn thing crumbles. The spring roll was alright, the sauce was way too salty... And the mango smoothie was just awful. I didn't expect fresh mango, but I wasn't expecting powdery milky flavor yuckiness either. They have a lot of work ahead of them...

I swear I wrote a review for this place already....how could I not?! This place has the best banh mi's in the area as of right now and its about a one minute drive from my work so im always picking up banh mis! So far I have had the pleasure to try: -Banh mi dac biet -Banh mi thit nuong -Banh mi meatballs -Banh mi grilled shrimp -Bun bo hue -Bun rieu All of the things above has two things in common....it all starts with a B and its all A+ tasting. :D I love their Bun Bo Hue! It's authentic and has a serious spicy kick that you should be prepared for. Don't ask for too much spices like me and you will be able to handle it! Unless you are like those spicy crazy people then go ahead...get spicy! lol. I learned my lesson, next time I will chill out on the spices. All the Banh Mi that I listed above is all really good but I think the grilled shrimp was just alright. It wasn't my favorite really but its something new since the owner did said they are the only restaurant offering it for now...so give it a try! The Bun Rieu was also good but there wasn't enough crab meat but despite that the soup was good and I couldn't stop drinking it. lol Overall this place is deff. my banh mi to go to places now! It is .50 cent more expensive than Quoc Huong but the gas to get there is the same and now a days Quoc Huong is lacking anyways. But as some already aware, the cook here used to work for Quoc Huong for 18 years so their banh mi tastes just like Quoc Huong but I believe it tastes even better!! So go ahead and try them out! There is nothing better than cheap eats that will leave ur stomach and wallet happy! :D
(5)Gina N.
I am so excited to say that I tried this place! Best banh mi in town AND it's super close to me! No longer have to drive all the way to Quoc Houng for my Vietnamese sandwich cravings! Very friendly service and definitely good food!
(5)Joseph H.
Probably the best banh mi in the area, if not the Southeast region. I normally get a small pho along with my banh mi and they are both delicious. The sandwiches are on the larger side, with a good proportion of meat, veggies and bread. The bread is a delicious french banquet, crisp and crunchy. The pho is more authentic than you would find at a certain popular pho house in the area. I think both are delicious but this place has a richer, balanced soup which I prefer. The location is a bit cumbersome with limited parking but it is definitely work the effort for good food. Oh and is it just me or did you all think John C. Riley's twin was running the place? Haha. the owners are great people and very friendly, airing on the side of overly friendly with his talking. But yeah... head over there, and grab a bit with John C Riley lol.
(5)Case C.
The banh mi sandwiches are hit or miss. When they are fresh, they are great. But sometimes the pork tastes old and dry.
(3)Angel P.
The food was just ok. From the bahn mi (pork & dac biet) to the rice dishes..they were just ok. The bbq pork was more dry and tough than what I'm used to having. The egg rolls were the size of my pinky..literally. REALLY small....I've honestly had better Vietnamese food. My most favorite part of the meal was my banana thai tea smoothie. It was definitely strange but so glad I gave it a try. It was so so so good! The service...well was kind of odd. While we were ordering, I was reading it in english but the owner(the white guy..he said he owned the place) kept "trying" to read/say it in Vietnamese. Which I found very annoying. He tries a tad bit too hard. Oh and he bows at every asian. Which I also find a little annoying. And he talks and talks about nothing. I spent 10 minutes at the register trying to pay. He had to reswipe my card 4 times because it kept canceling the transaction due to his mouth being unable to stay shut for 1 minute. I might go back, not for the food but for the banana thai tea smoothie.

Banh Mi Cafe is a quaint little space that is sure to be a great addition to the area surrounding Gwinnett Place Mall. The staff is exceedingly pleasant and eager to explain any item on the menu. The Banh-Mi sandwiches are as good or better than any you will find along the fabled Buford Highway, and definitely seem to sport more meat and vegetable fillings than the typical Bu-Hi spot. Even if the sandwiches were the same mini amounts of meats we are used to, Banh Mi Cafe is the only shop that I know that offers extra meat on your sandwich (a la Subway) but for only $1 upcharge. Thats very reasonable for a sandwich that is already at a good price point. We tried the pho as well and it was very good, though Lee's Bakery seems to have a heartier beef flavor to the broth (and who knows why? is Lee's rocking the msg or something? just wondering...) Banh Mi Cafe is sort of tucked on the end of the little shopping center it is in (just south of shabu-shabu, if you know where that is and just north of the Pleasant Hill + Satellite Blvd. intersection.)

This is one of our new go-to places for those nights we don't want to cook. I keep the menu in the glove box so I can order take out as I'm leaving from work and have a quick dinner for everyone with veggies included. It fits in our budget and everything on the menu is reasonably priced and made fresh. I don't speak Vietnamese and sometimes one of the women from the kitchen answers the phone. We muddle through trying to understand each other, and I don't really care if everyone once in a while the order isn't exactly right. We like the bbq pork and the garlic sausage banh mi sandwiches. When the friendly guy (who I think is a part-owner) is working behind the counter, I like to try his suggestions. The shrimp spring rolls are really fresh and always good. We get them every time. We're working our way through the rest of the menu. I notice a lot of 20 somethings order 5 to 10 sandwiches to go. I asked some if they were having a party, and they said it was for lunch the next week. Good idea.

Yay finally a good banh mi place near my office! Banh Mi Cafe is fairly new & located between Georgia French bakery & Enterprise. The manager/owner, who took orders and brought out food/drinks, was very friendly and attentive. Ordering system seems like a work in progress though... kitchen staff seemed confused with every order (they had to confirm what the order was, etc.) this would be a huge problem when this place gets busier. ~Banh Mi Nem Nuong (VN sausage banh mi) ($3) - flavorful and delicious! toasted bread & everything inside tasted fresh ~banh mi w/ eye round steak - thinly sliced eye round steak; my favorite banh mi here ~mi quang - turmeric noodle; delicious! great portion ~Thai tea - decent ~Rau Ma (pennywort juice) - only $1.95, pennywort has an earthy taste just fyi I can't wait to come back to try other items on the menu. Everything's less than $10, which is perfect for lunch and/or dinner :) very casual place. Pretty small shared parking lot w/ other businesses.

First time trying bhan-mi. I was skeptical when I walked it (the smell hit me hard, but to be expected at an authentic Vietnamese place I guess), but the food was fresh. It wasn't exceptional though. Likes the banana Thai iced tea (strawberry smoothie was bland though)

I have recently gone back and they change the sandwich I really came here for. I came here for the grilled shrimp sandwich. The first time we went there, it was fresh shrimp that was char grilled. This time..I got what tasted like frozen candied shrimp. Really lack luster. The freshness is gone with this. I will give them one more chance incase this was an off day. I still havent tried their other menu. I will update with a final review once I go back.

The banh mi was old, chewy and hard in the mornings. Possibly due to them re-using the banh mi for the next day. So if you have to visit this place just make sure you go in the late afternoon or evening to get fresher banh mi. But when it's fresher I think the banh mi is just a tad under Quoc Huongs standards. The plus side is they accept credit cards.

My first visit here was a good experience. Friendly owner that took time to engage in a conversation. Quality of the sandwich was good, a bit on the sweet side for my liking. Will try their other offerings. Be aware of a very steep driveway on the right entrance if you are facing the restaurant, I would recommend entering the shopping center from the other exit. For under $4, I consider the sandwiches a bargain worth trying. Update: I got a nice thank you note from the owner, he mentioned that toppings can be customized, now that's customer service!

The boyfriend and I decided to stop here the other day while we were waiting on an oil change from across the street. This is a fairly new addition to the plethora of Vietnamese restaurants that are lining Satellite Blvd/Pleasant HIll. Atmosphere: This place is very bare bone when it comes to ambiance. It's definitely casual with just standard tables and chairs with individual racks of condiments and sauces at each table. Since it was new, it looked really unfinished with an empty bank mi set-up in one corner and a printer/laptop set out on one of the tables. I thought this was kind of odd. Definitely not a place you would take a date, but acceptable if you're just in the mood for a quick bite to eat. Food: We ordered banh mi and they were fresh and delicious. I got the banh mi dac biet (special with cold cuts) and loved that they used a blended xiu mai in it instead of just duck liver pate at some other places. The boyfriend enjoyed his banh mi thit nhong (bbq pork) and liked that it was slightly charred for a more smokey flavor. Good meat-to-veggies ratio (YAY for meat!). The banh mi here start at $3, which is a little more than the $2.50 at most places (VN Tofu and Quoc Huong) but I think they were definitely worth the extra cost as oppose to driving all the way down to Buford Hwy to go to Quoc Huong. They have other entrees on the menu such as pho, bun (vermicelli), and wet/dry mi (noodle dishes) that averaged $7. Service: The owner greeted us when we walked in and made sure everything was satisfactory. He was also a good salesman since we came in wanting just 2 banh mi and ended up leaving with 4 more (Buy 5, get 1 free banh mi). Overall, I think I may have found my new go-to banh mi place on Pleasant Hill.
(4)Ashley N.
Chicken pho was good; make sure you point out on the menu what you want to ensure you get the right thing. Slight language barrier or I spoke to fast, idk? Chicken was not scary or questionable like some on Buford hwy!
(4)Sunshine H.
I love this Banh Mi Cafe. The banh mi is tasty and so flavorful and for the price that you pay, it's so worth it!! It's a family owned cafe, so be patient with their service but they are really nice and kind. They're so welcoming and make sure you leave satisfied. Every time I go there, they never fail me. I once had a bowl of meatball pho too and it was delicious! This place is definitely my go-to banh mi place.
(5)Yoonie S.
Pho was really good. Tried the banh mi dac biet for the first time - awesome sandwich for just over $3. Overall a great place to have a nice, quick lunch under $10.
(3)Jon Y.
Service is good by the white guy who looks and sound like Tom Arnold. Viet sandwich is good. Pho is not so good. The broth is kind of blend. The medium bowl is a small bowl. Overall it's just ok.

I'm torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars, but since I like to support small businesses, I'll bump it up to 4 stars. This place is an interesting mix of American and Vietnamese, because while you have the American owner, the food is from a Vietnamese cook. So it's almost like home cooked Vietnamese cuisine, but with American influences (like banh mi with an egg). I've tried the bun bo hue here and while the broth wasn't as that great, the noodles at least weren't overcooked. I have yet to try the bun rieu, which is my favorite dish. Unfortunately my husband refuses to come back with me since we overheard the owner yelling to the cook about something. On the plus side, he made some small talk with us so service isn't that bad. During the lunch hour, takeout would be your best bet. If you call ahead of time, you won't have to wait 30 minutes for your food. Since this is a small place, which seats perhaps 20, expect few employees. However, I will be back to check out the bun rieu!

I have been here a few times, I love this place! Would give 5 stars except the stuffiness in the winter. I first found this place on a lonely Monday night at 10 pm when many pho restaurants on Pleasant Hill Road were closed. I looked at the sign and it says "opening hours ...Monday...till 9 pm." People were still inside, I opened the door to ask if I could still order food. I didn't expect this answer from the owner: he said YES! Can you believe I was going to die of hunger if I couldn't get pho within 1 mile of Pleasant Hill Road?! The owner chatted with me and served me warm and good food. Since then, whenever I go, I always tip generously. For that he solved my hunger right at time. He did not need to keep the restaurant open until 10:45 pm because he had one needy guest, but he did. This welcoming spirit is the best I have had among all restaurants in Georgia.

Go. Here. The only thing I've found wrong with this place is the awkward parking situation. Otherwise, I have been here about a half dozen times and never disappointed. The combo rice dish is super and tons of food. Had several of the banh mi - love it! and the spring roll is a favorite too. You can get a sandwich and spring rolls (2), which is about way too much food for one person, for like $5. A note about soups. Cause I saw a bunch of complaints. I haven't tried any. There's about 5 Pho restaurants within 5 miles of here, most of which have Pho in the name. They're pretty much all good (my favorites are What the Pho and Saigon Cafe). I go here for Banh Mi. It's called the Banh Mi Cafe. Not to say the soups are bad, I don't know. But before you judge, try the Banh Mi. It's really good.
(5)Ed M.
Good reviews brought us here. Yikes it's CLOSED on THURSDAY? The devil is in the details. Maybe another time.
(3)Neha S.
Enjoyed a great dinner last night at Bahn Mi. I was so impressed they were able to a vegetarian version of pho. And it was GREAT! The owner is very accommodating and lets you make variations to pretty much any dish. I will definitely be back and with family and friends.
(5)Sweet T.
I tried the banh mi here several times, and it's not bad.. But it's far from the best. Their pho portions are a joke though. Their large is a small size from Saigon Cafe. The taste is alright, but it's almost impossible to pick up any food because their chopsticks are SO weak! The man who works here is also very talkative..
(3)Brian H.
The chef at this place is awesome. This woman can COOK! We started with, the Goi Cuon spring rolls. Then I had to try a Bahn Mi. I went with the Nem Nuong Bahn mi w sweet sausage. This was very good. The bread was toasted and the vegetables were fresh and tasty, I offered to buy one for my wife, however, she would rather eat mine. I also had the Com Ga Xao Xa Ot rice w spicy lemongrass chicken. This was very tasty indeed. Needless to say that this dish woke up any taste buds that may have been left dormant from the the two prior selections. It had a very nice balance of lemongrass and the fish sauce. The chef had worked many years on Buford Hwy (go figure) before starting her own restaurant. I really like this place and have been here many times. The chef has a very sweet disposition and is very great full for her patrons. The staff always greets and thanks everyone who go there.
(5)Rika B.
Good sandwiches. I got the special and BBQ pork (buy 5 get 1 free) and durian smoothie. I usually go o Buford Hwy for my sandwiches. Excellent service.
(4)Kerry M.
BBQ Pork sandwich was almost as good as Quoc Huong's. The American guy needs to learn the concept of silent service. He does not know when to stop. He means well, but is running business off. One star off because of his lingering at tables, and incessant chatter. He needs to be behind the scenes.

Pros: delicious; authentic dishes; friendly service; fresh; cheap Cons: language barrier My husband and I first tried this place about six months ago when we were having a late night banh mi craving and didn't want to commute to Buford Highway. We were not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised with the quality of both the food and service. We now dine here religiously and it's our favorite spot for a cheap date. The banh mi are delicious and an awesome value. All of the sandwiches are less than $4 and the portion is huge. There's a lot of meat options, but the cold cuts are my favorite. The pate is delicious and seasoned perfectly. There are also some vegetarian options such as avocado, which makes for a tasty sandwich. The pho is very good. The broth has a lot of flavor that is sometimes found lacking at other places. All of the accompanying veggies are always super fresh and delicious. Also, it's hard to go wrong with one of the smoothies for dessert. Many of them are made with fresh fruit and you can add tapioca for a little extra. My husband always goes for the thai tea and banana smoothie and I love the taro. The owner here is very nice and seems to always be around. He is a great person to ask for a recommendation. Sometimes there is a bit of a language barrier for English speakers here, but if your order comes out wrong the owner is always quick to correct the error. The cook is always so pleasant and will smile at you even if she is not quite sure what you are saying. She has been cooking Vietnamese food for over 20 years, so there's no question about the authenticity here. I was told that she frequently cooks lesser known Vietnamese dishes that are not on the menu if there is a request. The last time that we were here the owner shared with us that he will be creating an updated menu soon that will have some new dishes. There will be some fusion banh mi and maybe even a DIY banh mi menu. Overall, Banh Mi Cafe is amazing and definitely worth a try. It's easily my favorite Vietnamese place in the Atlanta area.

My husband was craving for some banh mi and we were around the area so we decided to stop in. We order 5 banh mi (got one free) and order one avocado smoothie..as well eggrolls and springs rolls and 2 orders of pho Togo. Banh mi was good.. The French bread was not as hard as the other banh mi restaurant which was a plus. But the eggrolls was so tiny! Should have known it was going to be small but didn't think it was going to be the size of my pinky. When we got home kids wanted to eat pho. I thought when you order pho Togo they make it a large. There was only small amount of noodles and two pieces of cook meat. They put the raw meat in a bag so that it doesn't mix with your veggies which is a plus. But I thought they could've gave us more noodles. The guy who said he is the owner was nice to us and gave us a card with 20% on our next meal. The next time I'm there I will only order the banh mi

I know the food is good because I have eaten here before and I was very excited to eat here again. But after sitting there for 10 minutes without a single person acknowledging that I was there and having to grab my own menu I had to walk out in frustration. There was only one other table in the restaurant at lunch time. I'm very disappointed and hope that they can get enough help in the restaurant actually serve customers.

I've been in search of the best Banh mi sandwich ever since the great American food truck race when the Vietnamese team was serving up these killer sandwiches. Until a year ago I never knew what they were. Simply they are Asian style BBQ pork with crunchy vegetable slices, a little heat a little sweet and a crispy french baguette (worth eating with nothing in it).!!! Now, some might consider it a "Wish Sandwich", which is two slices of bread and you wish you had some meat!!! But this sandwich is $3.00 stinking bucks so tell them you want extra meat and you'll pay the .50 cent up charge!! Ordinarily I like a lot of meat on my sandwich but the bread is so damn good I don't care. Until now Lou's Bakery and Quoc Huong have been the best places for a fantastic Banh Mi. But now appropriately named Banh Mi Cafe has the best in the city!!! WHY? because the little 4 ft Vietnamese that started and developed the recipes at Quoc Huong in Asian square on Buford Hwy is now here in charge of the kitchen. Banh Mi cafe has about 15 a different style Banh mi sandwiches which is one of the reasons it is the best in the city. Its nice to have so many choices. But the coup de grace is the eye round Banh mi. It is a Vietnamese version of a Philly cheese steak sandwich with grilled onions on a French baguette that is better than Gino's or Pats from Philly and without the attitude!! This is sandwich heaven. I can eat two or three with extra meat. There are two problems though. #1 this place is about 25 minutes away and I'll be dreaming about this place and wasting time during the week to drive there. #2 who eats three sandwiches these days since we found out carbs are the reason for putting on weight. Between the delicious Pho soup and the crispy baguettes (all carbs) this place is going to kill me.

I don't normally go back to a place twice in a week. I had this place for lunch this past Friday and had it for dinner yesterday. My friend Ara had queued me into this place a few weeks ago, and finally had time to check it out on a Friday. It was so packed I had to wait a bit to grab a table. I ordered a soy bean drink, bun bo hue (spicy rice noodle soup), and grilled shrimp banh mi. Michael, the owner, told me that the soy bean drinks get freefills, or free refills. I love their soy bean drink. It's made with organic ingredients and I don't drink soy milk but I love soy bean drinks for some weird reason. My grilled shrimp banh mi came out first so I picked up a bottle of trusty sriracha and poured a couple lines on my sandwich. The shrimp was a bit dry, as another reviewer had mentioned. I didn't like that they used regular mayo. It was the white mayo, not the Vietnamese mayo-like substance that I'm used to and there just isn't enough shrimp for me. It was ok. I finished it all in the end. I got my bun bo hue not too long after, and I gotta say, I really like their bun bo hue. I like all the toppings that come with (blood cake, fish cake, beef rump round, and pig knuckles) and the staff was amazed that I finished my bun bo hue and my sandwich. I eat notoriously slow so it probably took me forty minutes to finish both but I did it. Michael had made some banana thai tea smoothies earlier, and he gave me a glass to sample. Michael and I discussed that probably more banana should be present in the smoothie but I really liked the flavors together. Banana gave it a sweet earthiness with the herbal thai tea that mingled very well together. It was really delicious and if it was warmer, I'd probably have gotten some to go. Michael got me a to go cup for my soy bean drink and I went about my day happy and full. I hadn't seen Superjjang in a while, so I suggested we hang out and grab some dinner at banh mi cafe. Kungfu came along for the grub but he was so skeptical about the banh mi just because I said I thought it was alright but I had to do further testing. The boys got their large pho and I got myself bun bo hue and a banh mi with sugar cane shrimp this time. I would probably say this banh mi is the best I've had there so far. I really like it. I mean, I love sugar cane shrimp, and it might have something to do with it (probably 100% why i love it) and it was mighty tasty. I liked the hoisin on there and I liberally applied sriracha on top. This time, the banh mi had the traditional Vietnamese mayo-like condiment. Just enough sugar cane in this sandwich. This sandwich cemented my determination to make this my new go to banh mi place after QH. Kungfu wasn't too happy with his pho because it had too much star anise and cinnamon for his taste. But that's all up to how one likes their pho, but in general, I thought the quality of the broth was good. Just too much spice for us. As we stuffed ourselves silly, we watched some parts of Edward Scissorhands. Nice touch. We were stuffed, the meal was cheap and I love their attentive service. I wish they were open 24/7 so I can visit this place even when I'm drunk :(

I can't stop craving the banh mis. Friendly staff and delicious food. Glad to see good reviews on a great restaurant.
(5)Cloudia L.
so everyone was saying Banh Mi was good so i went with my mother and ordered bbq pork bahn mi, shredded chicken bahn mi and medium pho tai. PHO was good.. and the size medium is actually small size. anyways, bahn mi was not as good as i expected -_-" i was expecting something SUPER good but it was dried and ... i dont know, i don't think im going to try this again. oh the price was good though. $3.00 for bahn mi!

05/11/13 Wandered into this place one evening thanks to scout mob. Ordered some XL sized Pho's. This is yet a case of , the food is pretty good but the service sucked. There was one guy working the floor, granted it was a small dining area. To give him the doubt because he was alone, I cannot do. by his actions and how he served the tables you could tell he was very inexperienced at being a server. The food was good. If I get another scout mob coupon for the place, I'll probably go back. 06/12/13 Almost a month later from the last review. To my surprise, the owner of the restaurant sent me an email in response to the last review. I decided to give this restaurant another try and this is how it went. The restaurant revised its menu, and made it more colorful. This time I went with the Banh Mi Bo Tai sandwich and Banana Thai Tea Smoothie instead of another pho. for those at home, this sandwich (borrowed from their web site) 8" French baguette filled with home made *mayo, pâté spread, fresh cilantro, carrots, daikon, cucumber and jalapeño. How do I put this nicely.. or eloquently.. I'll simply say, I should have gone with the sandwich on the first visit. The sandwich was amazing. We could go through stuff like the presentation, color, and other culinary type stuff but I am just cutting to the chase. The eye round steak was juicy and full of life. each taste of the mayo, veggies, and the seasonings and spreads complemented each other nicely. I will warn you the kick of the jalapeno will sneak up on you. Yes, if you want, you can get it without the jalapenos but I think you'll be missing out. This sandwich isn't spicy nor the jalapenos make it that way. Just get the sandwich as it was intended and enjoy it. side note but very important, the sandwiches are very cheap. letseat.at/banhmicafe/me… The service: Definitely better. Granted I had a smoothie that doesn't get refills, but the water they give you does. They kept the cup full and it felt like the service was more attentive and took care of me better this time. from this latest adventure and experience, I will say I will be back and you should go visit them. another side note, From the improvements made, I pushed the rating up from 3 to 4 stars. last side note, (looking at the menu) I would like to see the option to get a side of fried rice or something that fits within the menu to go along with the sandwiches.
(4)David Y.
Best Bahn Mi and Pho I have had. Service is also bar none. You are always greeted and this is a typical Vietnamese Restaurant where they don't bother talking to you. This is truly a place to be if you want anything Vietnamese cuisine. I did request for organic Bahn Mi to be made and charge more....so we'll see. Try the drinks....they are great! Great to see good review!
(5)Jim S.
Concur with other reviews that the food was tasty, but the dining room was dirty and greasy, so I will not be back. I don't trust that the kitchen is clean if the dining room is dirty. Try one of the other vietnamese restaurants close by until they clean it up.
(2)Terry R.
Best tasting Phu I've ever had. Very tasty without being overspiced. Excellent portions for the money. 8" sandwich for $4. Had the Phu and wife had Mi. Both were very good. Fried bananas in spring roll wrappers for dessert. Amazing.
(5)Jay R.
Had the Coconut Thai bubble tea and two Banh mi sandwiches that was shared between my wife and I. The food was fresh and flavorful and I would say that there was plenty of food. Very cheap too! Our bill came to $10 for everything. Bubble tea had great flavor and the tapioca was freshly prepared so it did not stick together at all. The Banh mi sandwiches were perfectly toasted, evenly flavored, and had a nice amount of spice. I love spicy food, so those of you that prefer a mild flavor may want to request that ahead of time. The service was attentive, but we were the only ones in the place since we got there soon after they opened. It seems like they have surges of busy hours where the staff can get overwhelmed though- so don't hold me to that. . . Holding back on my 5 star review until I have a chance to go back (and I will) and sample some of their other flavors, their pho and other stir fry dishes. Based on the two sandwiches I had today, I think a 5 star may be close.
(4)Fifi N.
Terrible customer service. I got charge twice for my transaction and the owner refuses to fix it unless I bring in two receipts and the person I was with to show proof that she got charge too. Well I didn't realize I got charge twice since I only got one receipt and also my friend was charge. We only see each other once every other month because of our busy and different schedule so we both don't have time for all of that crap. Have better customer service instead of being greedy because bad mouthing will lose you customers.
(1)Abbie L.
Wow! That was probably the best Pho I've ever had! It was also the first time I've ever had Banh Mi and I must say, I will be making a weekly visit to this delicious establishment. Gotta love a good hole in the wall! Updated. The Pho wasn't nearly as good as my first visit. It was actually kind of bland.
(4)M H.
Pretty awesome! So happy I don't have to to Buford Hwy for my ban mi fix! Delicious!
(4)Zee Z.
I've eaten banh mi's from a few different spots in the Gwinnett area, and strongly feel this was the best one. I had the shrimp roll, chicken banh mi, steak banh mi, com bo luc lac, thai tea with banana. All items were pleasing in their own rights. Mike, the owner told me how he "stole" the current chef from a famous viet restaurant on Buford hwy LOL. For around $3 i would rather eat this than a big mac, all day everyday!
(5)Rani C.
I ordered the Banh mi dac biet. It was interesting. I'd never had one before so I really don't know what to compare it to. I ate most of it though. Had no tummy issues (which is huge for me b/c my stomach is finicky). It was pretty good. I'd go back if I was hungry and in the area.

Brand new (opened November 2012) Vietnamese place in Duluth. They serve the basic stuff you'd expect if you're familiar with Vietnamese food, Banh Mi sandwiches, Pho, Com and Bun dishes. We got a couple of Banh Mi, traditional and chargrilled shrimp. Both really good if a bit heavy on the meat but I suspect most people won't mind. It was nice and warm which is different from most Banh Mi I've had which are room temp. I also got a noodle soup with beef, pork, blood cubes and pig foot. It seemed the most adventurous thing on the menu, since I'm not a huge fan of bun and com dishes. It was nicely spiced and full of flavor. Came with the standard plate of fresh veg, herbs and bean sprouts. And a couple of great Thai Iced Teas, maybe the best I've had. Spicy, sweet and complex but without the bitter aftertaste I've found in some versions. Chatted with the owner and chef a little bit and it seems the chef used to work at Quoc Huong on BuHi for many years. They have plans to expand the menu somewhat once things get going. I look forward to that! I'd really give this place 4 to 4.5 stars just because the menu isn't as varied as I'd like to see if they are going to be a full service restaurant. But they are brand new and already expanding the menu so I'll cut them a little slack here. I'd heartily recommend this place to anyone in the area that wants Vietnamese food served with a little more attention and friendliness than they might get at the bigger places in the area such as Saigon Cafe.
(5)Eowyn C.
I'd been wanting to try this place for a while since the Yelp reviews looked so awesome. I stopped in one day while I was in the area and placed an order to go: One grilled pork banh mi and one thai tea. The flavor of the banh mi was pretty good but the portion of meat and vegetables was much less than those pictured on Yelp. For $3 though it's a decent deal. The thai tea was delicious with its characteristic bright orange hue. Overall, pretty good cheap eats if you're in the area, but not really worth going out of your way for.
(3)NN R.
They have BUN RIEU! And it's GOOD! Bun rieu is my favorite Vietnamese noodle soup and I was so happy to find that Banh Mi Cafe makes a good one. The pho is good too. My boyfriend always gets their sandwiches. We both love their delicious fruit-smoothies. They use real fruit and it tastes so creamy and rich, it's amazing! Our favorite is the avocado shake. Must try!
(4)NerdoLoco H.
I'm going in today and forgot to add that I tried their grilled shrimp and the chicken bahn mi sandwiches and they are both excellent. The philly cheese was also very good and on the sweet side if that's what you like. I believe you can ask for some kind of special hot pepper sauce to be put on which I will try today (not sirachi).
(5)Lee B.
Finally I don't have to travel down to Buford Hwy for awesome sandwiches! More so the owner is an old employee of my favorite sandwich spot! Yay! So happy! Yummy in my tummy!!!! Update!! Finally tried something besides the sandwiches!! My partner had the Pho and it's the best broth hands down! Meats are tender, FRESH and the veggies are crisp and clean! I had the Vietnamese crepe that you wrap in lettuce then dip in fish sauce which was amazing! Thai Tea to round things off and we rolled out more than satisfied! Just make sure to check your take out order before you leave.
(5)J V.
Had their grilled pork sandwich ..Similar to quoc huong like others pointed out ..and I'm not sure if they make their own bread or buy it elsewhere.. ...as in my other review I have a personal preference for lee's bakery grilled pork sandwiches ..but I'll be back here to try their other sandwiches .. I also got a pork chop plate to go..(I'm not planning to cook for this week..so it's gonna be a series of eating out..take out.and ramen..along with frozen food)...and that's why they're getting 4 stars...the pork chop rice plate comes with fried eggs and bi ..the pork chop was marinated well..and the bi wasn't overpowering with that bi seasoning (I'm not a fan of bi..but if it's there..I'll eat it).. I judge the fish sauce too..and if you mess up the fish sauce..it kills it for me..and their fish sauce here was good Service was okay.. She did all the required steps..
(4)Chrissie A.
Came in today with the Scoutmob and was not disappointed. I ordered the eye round steak banh mi, which was very good, and my boyfriend ordered the bbq pork banh mi. We both ordered the Pho Tai. I was really amazed at how good the broth was. Really good, really rich, and the steak was sliced really thin and evenly. The owner, Mike, was really friendly. We ordered the banana thai tea smoothie based on the Scoutmob raves and it was a revelation. So so so good. Looking forward to going back and trying all the other banh mis!

We are banh mi nuts. Happy to see a new place dedicated to the cause. Not as good in my opinion as Lee Family bakery. But very much worth the visit. We will be back. Oh: spring rolls are better than Lee's. Try them.

The best banh mi in Atlanta!!...their baguette is fresh and the vegetables too, and their mayonnaise and spread is goooood! No other places mayonnaise or spread can compare! Buy 5, 1 free! Location can be a bit tricky to find. They serve other Viet food too!

Ordered a grilled shrimp sandwich at the owner's advice and it was just okay. Sauce was heavy, sandwich didn't have balance. (I wished I was eating the BBQ pork sandwich from VN Tofu). Ordered two cold drinks- avocado and milk tea- neither made my taste buds dance. The owner, Michael, has a big personality, and his voice and presence filled the dining room and gave us and the other diners no space to just be alone. Nice guy, but we came for food, not for endless socializing. And his boasting of how great his cook was just didn't match the mediocre dining experience that we had. EDIT: The response from management from my review is deflective, defensive, and manipulative. First of all they speak to me as if I was there in a ScoutMob- I was not. I never said I was. I have started using ScoutMob, but I visited this restaurant before installing the app. Then they say that I might be referring to a different place although I mention the same Michael guy that four other yelpers mention. If he isn't the owner, then he is the manager or something. Whatever it is, I simply didn't have a good experience at this restaurant. And, I resent the owner attempting to deflect this negative view with a cloud of confusion (accusing me of being angry about the ScoutMob coupon not working, yet also accusing me of never having been to his restaurant- which one is it? Which is your excuse for me not liking your shrimp banh mi that had too much sweet sauce on it and none of the delicate balance of flavors that I expect from a good banh mi?). Part of owning a business is accepting you can't please everyone every time. No need to be defensive. No need to attack negative reviews.

Had the pork sandwich and also the shrimp. Been here every week since! The sandwiches are good and at a great price! The staff are friendly and service quick. My only downside is not a whole lot of shrimp per sandwich. I would order extra for a fuller sandwich! Overall great spot!

The wife and I stopped in the other week, as we had remembered passing by a few times and being excited that there was a restaurant specializing in banh mi opening near us. The banh mi did not disappoint. I have had the banh mi from both Lee's and Quoc Huong, and thoroughly enjoy both, but I would put Banh Mi Cafe right up there with them. As some others have pointed out, their sandwiches are $0.50 more than the aforementioned places, but they do not skimp on the meat. Plus, for us, the convenience factor of not having to drive to Chamblee is huge. Also, $3.50 for an amazingly delicious sandwich is still damn cheap. We also had the goi cuon (spring rolls), which tasted very fresh and delicious. We had the opportunity to talk for a bit with the owner, and he was extremely nice. I wish this restaurant nothing but success and they are a very welcome addition to the area. We will definitely be back for more banh mi and to try some of the other dishes as well.

ScoutMob brought me here, so I tried it out with my Mom and bro. As we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly man, and quickly got us our menus and waters. The first thing we saw were the Banh Mi sandwiches, which were only $3. My mom ordered one of those (thinking it'd be a small serving), and I ordered Medium Chicken&Fish Pho. Both of us LOVED the food. For $3, my mom got a very sizable sandwich, with tons of vegetables and good bit of pork. And my medium bowl of Pho for $6 was plenty! Unlike Saigon Cafe and other places, they give you much more meat and noodles, and less broth. So we definitely got our money's worth! AND half off with the Scoutmob. Very friendly staff, delicious food, and awesome prices??? JUST GO! You won't regret it, and I hope this business stays in the Gwinnett area for a very long time. A great example of a hidden gem in the area.

Ok seriously this was a great place!!! The food was authentic and delicious. The owner was courteous and extremely social. The cook was Vietnamese but the owner was American who had been around Vietnamese food for 20+ years, so he did a great job of explaining all the menu options. The cook did a even better job making them. For my fellow vegetarians try the Fried tofu with avocado Banh mi! It was amazing. Saucy and well made. Try the Avocado shake its GODLY! But be warned it's huge so it might be good to share it with someone. Best part was the owner really flexible and was talking about how he is attempting to integrate organic options into his menu. Do yourself a favor and just stop by and I promise you'll fall in love. Plus $3 a sub and $3.50 shake what more could you want? I'm hooked for life. Also this is more info on them: banhmicafe.weebly.com

I came here a couple of months ago and was impressed with the food. My sister got noodle soup and I got Com Tam. Both dishes looked and tasted exactly like how our mom cooks it at home! Nothing too greasy. It's a great place for a real, home-cooked meal.

Was told by the owner, Mike, that he made a mistake and they do use MSG in their Pho. He said that they may be able to have some Pho broth set aside with no MSG and they will work on finding the right flavor without MSG but it may take some time.

I was in the Great Wall Supermarket when I tried a Banh Mi sandwich at the fast food court. I always got my Banh Mi sandwiches at Quoc Huong on Buford Highway. This sandwich was great if not better. I live 2 hours away so I come to Atlanta just once or twice a month. I came the next time and was disappointed that the place was closed. I saw a gentleman there and he told me that they were moving to a place on Satellite Blvd. I was excited that they weren't just closing down. I just needed to wait until they opened in a different location. And now they have (almost 3 months ago). I just happened to be at Great Wall and exited towards Satellite instead of Pleasant Hill. I'm so glad I did because I looked to the left and there was Banh Mi Cafe. I made a u-turn and entered thru Enterprise (don't go that way very steep as mentioned). I was just going to get the BBQ pork Banh Mi to go but the woman owner (sorry I dont have her name) greeted me with such a great smile that I decided to eat there. I instead got the fried egg noodles with beef, pork and seafood. It was great! It had a mix of fresh veggies, tender pork, seafood and thinly sliced melt in your mouth beef all topped with fresh chopped cilantro. It came with 3 different spices you can add yourself (hot chili oil, jalapeños and sriracha). When it first came out, the gentleman who was ordering take out changed one of his order when he saw what I ordered (he was ordering bun but didn't quite know what he was ordering). He also wanted his dish without pork and they were very accommodating). A little while later the gentleman owner had come back from an errand and a large family of 8 came in. He greeted them warmly and was very good in explaining the menu and bragging on his wife being the best cook in Georgia. They had ordered pho and com (I asked the owner which com they got and he told me it was marinated pork chop and over-easy eggs over rice). The com looked good and I will have to try that next time. I also ordered some Banh Mi to go so I can have lunch over the next few days. Today I tried the avocado and veggies Banh Mi. It was delish and very refreshing. Of course Banh Mi sandwiches are even better when eaten the same day. And yes, buy 5 get 1 free! I don't mind the price as some have said its 50 cents more but you spend that in gas alone just driving all the way to Buford Hwy. I am definitely going back to try everything else. Yes, they are brand new and a little work in progress as they get situated but they have friendly service, great food and the great lady from Quoc Huong is now on Satellite Blvd! They also take all credit cards which is very nice. I love mom and pop places. Please try this place. You won't be disappointed.

Tried it a month or so back. I've been to Lee's Bakery down on Buford Hwy so I am biased, but this place was ok. They are trying to be a up and coming Banh Mi place. Had me wanting to goto Lee's for better Pho and Sandwich. Needs better service and freshly steaming bowls of pho to compete.

ScoutMob takes me everywhere these days. It gets me out of my usual rut places by introducing me to new/different restaurants and businesses. My friend and I met here for lunch since it was approximately halfway between us. It is definitely a family-run business, and I like that. The male owner greeted us, took our orders, and his daughter (well, she looks like his daughter) brought out the food. Mom was cooking in back, although I think she came out once or twice to say hello to friends who stopped by to check out the restaurant/business. The male owner also is very helpful with suggestions or answering questions if you have any. He said he's been eating the food for 23 years, so he's been married to his wife for 23 years? Too cute! Owner was a nice, attentive dude. Kept on refilling my water after I'd guzzle more of it down. My friend ate the char grilled shrimp banh mi and the shrimp pho (medium). I got a medium pho ga (chicken) to eat there, and I also got a large one to go. FYI, to go pho orders only come in large. Prices are $7.25 for a large and $6.00 for a medium no matter what flavor pho you get. I liked the flavor of the broth which is why I eat pho in the first place. The noodles were not overcooked. I would appreciate, however, a hotter broth since I like my soups piping hot. Plenty of fresh bean sprouts, thai basil, a half of a lime per person, and saw-leaf herb/long coriander (ngo gai in Vietnamese). The soup was also a little oiler than I prefer (clearly floating on top), but it was full of flavor. In fact, I like a lighter flavored soup, but this was a darker soup full of star anise and clove flavors. I like how they don't skimp on the cilantro and green onions. Plenty enough for me. Our total was $23, and after the ScoutMob discount, was $11.50. Amazing. There are also bun (skinny rice noodle) dishes and com (rice) dishes as well. Perhaps next time. This restaurant is really out of the way for me since I have to pass all of Buford Highway's restaurants (Dai Loi, Nam Phuong, Pho Bac, Viet Tofu, Lee's Bakery, etc.) to get to it. I can see myself eating there again if I'm in the area, though. It's important to build a good customer base as a new business, and I think ScoutMob was a good way to do that. Definitely helps that the chef is a former Quoc Huong employee as well. Minus a star because soup could be hotter, less oily.

Stopped by while waiting for my oil change across the street. Was expecting an express Banh Mi place. I walked in and was greeted by the owner and then realized it was a full on Pho restaurant. I got the BBQ Pork Banh Mi and found it very delightful. This is definitely my new spot for banh mi instead of having to drive all the way down to Jimmy Carter.

I've been here a few times and I must say, I'm rather disappointed that this is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my place of work. Let me preface my review by stating that I love Banh Mi and this place does a decent job of making them. This makes sense since I much prefer my Banh Mi from Quoc Huong rather than Lee's Bakery. I'm an avid fan of Vietnamese food, so I'm familiar with how much service can simply stink at Vietnamese restaurants in the Atlanta area. A lot of places kind of make up for this by having your food out in under five minutes. However, when it takes nearly 25 minutes for a to-go order of a single Banh Mi and an order of Shrimp Rolls to get to you AND service sucks, there's not a whole lot you can do to make up for that. Other than sending your customer out of the door with a little tub of completely sour, spoiled and fermented peanut sauce, of course. Opening that container was a great way to start my meal, let me tell you. If you work in the Gwinnett Place area, there are much friendlier, better places to get lunch.

Overall good experience until I saw the owner pick the leftover vegetables from another table....that to me is just disgusting.

So, this was my first time at Banh Mi Cafe. The only Banh Mi place I knew about before was Lee's Bakery. And I must say what a pleasant surprise it was to have found this place. Their Banh Mi's are better quality than Lee's in every way. The bread is much softer, fresher than Lee's "Bakery." Another thing I like is the crazy number of variety they have. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Michael, who told me that they are going to further expand their menu. Granted, the BBQ Pork Banh Mi was and always will be my favorite, but it is nice to change it up every once in a while. Needless to say, this will be my Banh Mi go to place from now on. Now, for those who don't like Banh Mi's, you shouldn't get your hopes down. Their Thai Tea Banana Smoothie is so good to warrant a quick stop at Banh Mi Cafe. Who would have thought that Thai Tea and Bananas go together?

I went here with a group of friends today and absolutely loved it! I've tried banh mi a couple of times and I have to say, the food here was incredible. My boyfriend and I shared the following: banh mi with avocado and vegetables, banh mi with tofu and banh mi with vietnamese sausage and all three were delicious! We shared the shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce as well. I also had a taste of one of their desserts that is basically sweet white corn, coconut shavings and a salty sweet sort of powder you are supposed to mix in. A very unique but tasty dessert and like nothing else I've ever tried. In spite of our large group the wait staff was very attentive to our needs. We had several people in our group who were vegetarian or semi-vegetarian and Banh Mi Cafe was very helpful in going over the ingredients specifically used in the dishes and making alterations when necessary. Mike, the owner, even offered to make a vegetable broth for one person if they really needed it. I highly recommend this place! I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of the food on the menu.

I was craving for bahn mi and was in Duluth area. I always try to get my banh mi from Quoc Huong on Buford Hwy. since they have the best banh mi in town. But that have all changed after I tried banh mi cafe. They are all equally good, but banh mi cafe has more choices for banh mi. It was my first time there, so I've decided to buy 5 get 1 free. I ordered shrimp banh mi, bbq pork, nem nuong (sausage), chicken, shrimp in sugar cane, and tofu. They were all delicious! My favorite was the shrimp in sugar cane and nem nuong. I can't believe I just found out about this place. There is a caucasion guy in the front, I think he's the manager. He was very polite and nice. So, a plus. Also, I feel that their portion meaning the veggies are lot more here compare to Quoc Huong. However, there are few downers. 1. They forgot to give me the free banh mi. I was missing the shrimp bahn mi. However, I called them and they apologize and asked me to go get it anytime. So, I have no problem with that. 2. Location! I didn't know it was there because it's located in a shopping center at the corner. Hard to notice. When I went to the restaurant there were no one there. Or it could have been because it was only 11 something in the morning. 3. Price is high compare to Quoc Huong. Quoc Huong charges $2 for the chicken while banh mi cafe charges $3 for all the banh mi. However, it was worth the money. Also, they have scountmob which offers 50% off for dine in. Overall, I enjoyed it very much. Now if I'm craving for banh mi up north, I'll come to Banh Mi cafe and if I'm down on buford hwy, I'll go to Quoc Huong. I can't wait to go back!
