Big disclaimer: I've never had their pizza, so this review doesn't reflect what is arguably their main thing. However, their subs, calzone, pasta, salads, and cannoli are so scrumptious that I've never even considered ordering pizza from them. I am vegetarian, so I generally go for the eggplant Parmesan sub or the Caprese sub. The sub sandwiches come with a side salad that is generous in size and always fresh. I usually upgrade to a Cesar or Greek--their Greek vinaigrette is a thing of beauty. I hate getting eggplant dishes with subpar eggplant. Their eggplant is always delicious and fried to perfection. The fresh basil on the sandwich is a divine touch. The veg pastas are great and my omnivore pal loves their spaghetti and meatballs. The pasta is never too soft but it's not too al dente, either. Save room for dessert. That's all I'm going to say. So. Delicious. The staff members are also super-friendly.

Quite simply, best pizza in Atlanta! The family owned restaurant has and awesome management team, friendly servers, ample parking, good craft beer and amazing pizza, and it's reasonable for fresh, solid ingredient pizzas! I have eaten at this pizza restaurant on several occasions and truthfully they have something for everyone! A phenomenal Quattro carne cheese pizza for the simple pallets out there. All the way to a IL Diavolo which according to the website is "The hottest pizza known to man. Notify next of kin. " A waiver is literally required to eat this pizza.. They also have a Greco "EVOO, fresh garlic, spinach, banana peppers, feta, mozzarella, oregano" it's way yummy! They use totally fresh ingredients and bake the pizzas to perfection. Also and this seems to be an issue among other pizza restaurants, they correctly and effectively slice their pizza! Don't miss the local craft brews and garlic cheese bread! They now have two locations haven't been to the Brookhaven location but the Decatur one is a total win!

The il Diavolo pizza is probably the spiciest pizza I have ever had. Amazing. 2 day aftermath: My butt-hole feels like I have been screaming at a Motley Crue concert all night, my throat feels like it swallowed a cactus, and my stomach got hit by Walter White's Pontiac Aztec. Do it wimp.

We dined here on a Saturday. It was packed but they made space for us at the bar. They have six or so excellent craft beers on tap and a large selection of by the glass wines, both at reasonable prices. We enjoyed a Greek Salad and Caprino Pizza. The salad contained good quality ingredients. I wish the "dressing on the side" trend would end so we could get properly dressed salads again. The pizza was fantastic, crust a little thicker than the usual Neapolitan and not soggy as a result with the right amount of flavorful sauce and toppings. 12" round is just right for two people. Although not on the menu they sell dough for taking home to make your own pizza. The service and kitchen were excellent and fast.

Avellino's - we gave you a try again. This time we opted to dine in. And it was GREAT! It's a small restaurant, but by coming early, we were able to snag a table. Hubby LOVED the hightop tables, so he could stand and eat (was tired of sitting all day). Staff was super friendly and nice. Had their delicious pizza special - white pizza with tomatoes, mozzarella, arugula, pancetta, and balsamic reduction - heavenly! And my daughter's tortellini with breadstick was fabulous too. Will be back for dine in!

As many have said about pizza, it's about the crust. Avellino's has it down. Top five pizza of all time. The SPO rocks, as does the margherita. Plus, they have craft beer on tap. But this is Decatur, so of course they do.

We walked in on a whim after realizing that we needed real food after scarfing down delicious donuts from Revolution right next door. Pizza seemed really to be the best idea after a boozy birthday brunch and donut-run, so we stopped by for a to-go order. The place was packed with families and couples on dates. It was really cute and cozy inside, and it would have been nice to stay and dine in. My four friends and I decided on the Primo Suprimo. The wait was maybe close to half an hour, but they were nice and offered us waters while we waited. To be honest, there isn't too much room to wait around for our orders, so we just had to awkwardly stand by the bar. The pizza smelled heavenly on the trip home. It hit the spot and prepped us for our long night out in Buckhead. The pizza was tasty, but the toppings weren't particularly notable. The crust was solid. As a note, the medium and the large pizzas are rectangular, so the crust to real pizza ratio is not the same for all slices (it worked out since we had a crust-lover and a crust-disliker--hate is too strong of a word--in our group). All in all, a satisfied bunch of ladies :)

Great, reliable pizza delivery for Oakhurst/Decatur/East Lake. Our favorites are the quatro carne and greco. We have ordered on off nights as well as busy Friday nights and the order usually takes about an hour to arrive and is always fresh and piping hot. I'm sure the rest of their menu is great, but once you try the quatro carne and greco it's hard to try anything else. It's usually pretty loud at the restaurant and it's obviously hard for the person taking my phone order to hear what I'm saying (like my credit card number) but other than that the service is great and the delivery guys are very friendly. We haven't tried another pizza place here yet because Avellino's has become our go-to spot.

EXCELLENT PIZZA. There are so many good things to say about this place. I am huge fan of classic Italian pizza. The meats here are amazing (pepperoni in particular), but my favorite pizza (of ALL time) is the "Quattro Formaggio + fresh basil + garlic" Get it.

Great service, great wine specials 1/2 off wine bottles Monday I had the Eggplant Parmesan entree for $11. Came with a delicious Greek salad loaded with olives and cucumbers and a fresh vinaigrette

I should really put Avellino's number in my phone, because they're my go-to pizza joint. Bad day at work? Call Avellino's! Significant other out of town? Call Avellino's! Their pizza is flavorful, crunchy, delicate, and bold. They only reason they get 4 starts and not 5 is the price. It's just a little too expensive for their number to be in my phone.

GREAT FOOD! EXCELLENT SERVICE! This was the third time I tried to eat here and it did not disappoint. The place is usually busy and space is at a premium. So the be prepared to wait sometimes. As I said the food and service were both excellent. Be sure to check the board near the bar for special selections. We got an app, salad and pizza. Zucchini fries are large enough for two or three people. The pizza was suppose to be saved for lunch the next day but it was tasting so good that it disappeared. Decent selection of beverages from soda, to beer and wine. We will return.

My family and I have been going to dinner here since they opened. The staff is so welcoming and knows us each time we come in. It is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the city. They have a small bar and dinning area because most of their business is pick up and delivery. They also offer outdoor seating on nice days. Visit them for dinner sometime and you won't be disappointed! I have had the lasagna (which is out of this world!), eggplant sub, Italian sub, cheese tortellini and chicken parm. My kids LOVE the spaghetti and meatballs. Even though there is not a kids menu, they will offer your child a child's portion. My kids also love the meatball sub. We have never had a bad experience here with service or food. They have good beer on tap and the house red is priced well and is very good! If you have finished your first glass of wine and are not sure if you should go for that second, they will offer you a half glass and charge you half. The pizza is amazing! If you call for delivery, you may wait a while on a busy night, but it is well worth it!

I can't say enough good things about this place. Every time we've been the food has been excellent, and the staff has been incredibly friendly and accommodating. You can tell they use quality ingredients. By far the best thing we've had so far is the spaghetti bolognese, followed closely by their lasagna. The waiter recommended putting a few dashes of "Evil Dust" on top of the spaghetti, and the advice was spot on. Their Evil Dust is some combination of dehydrated peppers, including ghost peppers, so a couple of dashes is all you need. Amazing. They are very family friendly, as well as a good place to take a date. They have a good selection of craft beers. They will do wine by the glass, half glass, and bottle. If you don't finish the bottle they will cork it and send it home with you. The place is tiny though, which means getting a table can sometimes be difficult, but also adds to the air of being a little corner family friendly Italian joint.

Came here yesterday with the husband and Simba for dinner. Yesterday was our second time at this place. We came back here because my husband loves the pizza here. He ordered Verdura. Said it was nice. I had the spinach salad that came with a raspberry vinaigrette. I like the dressing in tiny amounts as it was too sweet for me and asked for a ceasar dressing midway thru my meal. Simba got a big bowl of water and lots of love from our server. He was happy and so were we. A "WIll be back" restaurant

It only took 7 years of being in Atlanta to find a good piece of pizza. Funnily enough it's not even in Atlanta, it's in Decatur. For the last 7 years I've had friends telling me "no, really, you have to try this pizza it's just like New York". Honestly, it's never like New York, ever. It's just pizza disappointment, every time. But Avellino's has a solid pizza. I've been here twice now and had a great experience both times. The first time I had the Rustica Pizza. Our waiter, Charlie, was informative and helpful and suggested that we add red onions. On his advice we did and it was awesome. Our second visit, the S-P-O pizza (with anchovies on half). Again, a solid pizza all around. Crust is just right, sauce is delicious and they use real mozzarella. My wife and I also shared the rigatoni and Bolognese pasta special. The pasta dish was excellent. You could tell it did not come from a box (it's made in Marietta) and the sauce is clearly homemade. What I like about this place is it's small and quaint. The servers are friendly and helpful. They even recognized us when came back the second time. But the most important is the food, it's really really good. That's what I've been searching for all of these years. It helps that I live in Decatur too, but still. Good pizza, nearby, friendly service, mom and pop owned. Can't wait to go back!

Unfortunately, as much as we wanted to love this place, we could not. Appetizers were not good and pizza didn't taste as good as we expected. 3 stars are for great service. Eggplant Parmesan was not eatable said my wife. When I asked her why she ate most of it, she replied: " when you are so hungry you will eat anything" We are hoping it was a bad day for the restaurant so we will be back to try again. We appreciate our neighbor restaurants so fingers are crossed.

This is one of the best pizza joints in town. Our group shared a Greco pizza and a 2nd one with custom toppings and all was great.

Pizza was on the docket for the evening meal and we weren't really feeling some of our typical haunts or anything super busy. Fire up ye olde Yelp App and up comes Avellino's down the road from us. Decided on a pick-up order and we called in for a Greco Pizza and a House Salad. Short drive down College Ave and the small restaurant is on the corner of the same building as Revolution Doughnuts and Ale Yeah. The folks at the bar were super nice and our pizza and salad were ready 15 minutes after I had called it in. Back to the homestead, we dive into the Greco. It was fantastic. Perfect size for two people and the flavors were spot on. Really loved the combination of banana peppers with the oregano is a nice touch. Great balance and the crust had a good crunch and chew to it. The shape was also rather welcomed as well as you could easily tell it was slapped out by hand. I'd definitely order this again. The House Salad was awesome. Pretty standard, but it really worked well next to the Greco pizza. I'm definitely a fan of Avellino's. Looking forward to dining in next time.

Had the greco pizza and a Greek salad: both were excellent. Beer selection was ok, and the price was good for a pitcher. Unfortunately there was very little seating - we grabbed the only table available. I look forward to doing take out - their tasty pizza in the comfort of my own home!

We have been ordering from Avellino's for some time. Their pizzas are well made, and most importantly delicious. They are a bit pricier, but you do pay for the quality. The staff is super friendly, but the actual restaurant can get quite crowdy when it is busy. The delivery guys (there is only one person working) are friendly too. They also cater to vegans, by not giving too much of an raised eyebrow when getting a pie sans pizza. Vegetarians will also enjoy the cheeses as my wife affirms that her verdura tastes great. Oh, and they have great ales available at the restaurant, which makes waiting for a pizza much more fun. And I'm talking about some good beer that comes from Belgium and has a high ABV.

I've ordered take-out from here a couple of times, but recently found out they deliver! They quoted me 1-1.5 hours but I got my pizza in just under an hour. Woohoo! As for the pizza, it is definitely a-okay. My delivery pizza was the S-P-O, which comes with sausage, green bell peppers, and red onion. It was quite good. I could have done with a couple more sausage pieces, but overall, I was very satisfied. But sadly, the tiramisu I tacked on to the end of my order was a tragedy. Do not recommend. I do recommend the pizza, though! My next goal for Avellino's is to actually dine in.

I was quite impressed with the quality of their ingredients and service and for that they get 4 stars. We had the garlic cheese bread and it was flaky, garlicky and had plenty of cheese. The sauce that came with the bread was amazing, it was tangy and fresh. We had a Greco calzone and a pepperoni, red pepper pizza. I have to say this place has very special pepperonis, they are small, crispy and flavorful. I had 5 pieces left over to take home and I ate all the pepperonis off the pizza before putting it in the box. It was rather empty when we went in the evening and that surprised me, I guess most people order out there. It would have been nice to see a full vibrant room while eating on a weekend, but what counts is the food. The hand painted De Niro and Pacino paintings were cool and the chef had an Italian shirt on which made me feel good about my Italian food ;) You should try this place, if you want good pizza with quality ingredients this is a great place!

I wish their phone lines worked to order delivery. 100% of the time, their number is either busy or running a recording for 20-30 minutes. Tonight I gave up...they lost a customer forever tonight. This review is limited to Decatur as the other location does not have this issue.

Yummy, yummy, yummy! Love the garlic cheesy bread, love the salad, love the pizza, love the servers. There is a very consistent and cooperative group of servers that are very friendly. They'll learn your beer preferences (They have rotating yummy drafts) and the names of your kids. While I also enjoy the lasagna, it's perhaps a little greasier than most but I don't want to take away a full star for this.... I wish I could just give 4.5 stars :) Warning: the place is small and fills up quickly. Either call ahead to check on how busy they are or get there early for dinner if your party is larger than 2 (during cold months). For warmer days, there is a lot of outdoor seating. Definitely go, it's our favorite pizza in Atlanta!

My sister and I were having a girls day out and stumbled upon this hole in the wall (Boy are we glad we did!) Not only was the food fresh and tasty, the entire staff was extremely personable and welcoming. We will be back again!

I didn't give this place full stars for several reasons. That being said, their pizza is pretty good! I tried the lasagna and was slightly disappointed. The meat bolognese sauce was so heavy and strong, it needed some veggies to help the flavors blend. Between that and the cramped inside seating area, this place lost a star with me. We got the fried zucchini sticks and they were so yummy! Plus the staff is friendly, and the prices decent. We'll be back, just not for lasagna.

Gourmet pizza offering not-so-typical toppings, but I didn't think it was anything to rave about. Two of my girlfriends and I ordered bruschetta to start and a large Caprino (goat cheese, spinach, olives, and onions) pizza, adding spicy Italian sausage. The bruschetta was definitely something different than I've seen anywhere else. They didn't have chopped tomatoes. These buggers were whole baby tomatoes. And it wasn't the small pieces of bread I get at other joints, but whole slices of Italian bread. The tomatoes made it a little hard to eat since they didn't want to stay on the bread every time I bit into it, but it was nice and refreshing. We made a mistake in ordering a large. Three girls apparently can't eat that much, but what we did eat was pretty good. Like I said, nothing to rave about, nothing that made my mouth water. I was actually expecting more goat cheese. Shucks. Everyone we encountered who worked there was very friendly and made me feel comfortable. We chose a table outside to enjoy the weather as the sun was setting. Unfortunately, sitting outside doesn't guard you from the homeless wandering around. There was only one man (admittedly, the cleanest bum I've ever seen), and he kept coming back. Our server had already given him some bread and water, and escorted him away from the restaurant, but the guy returned. Obviously, it's not Avellino's fault at all, but I really appreciated how multiple workers tried to steer him clear of us and other customers, then apologize to us, all in addition to making sure we had everything we needed. Summary: average pizza but excellent service.

Avellino's is a no frills Pizza place that also has some pretty good Italian dishes as well. They have a good beer selection of craft selections which is good for your hop heads that like a good brew with your pizza. I liked the pizza and eggplant parmesan we got but the ceaser dressing didn't seem homemade and came with tomatoes which have no business in there. Service was good and the prices were reasonable. Closed on Mondays so keep that in mind if youre going to check it out.

I'm willing to give this place another shot, but this my review after my first visit. My fellow diner and I started with a Greek salad which had dressing good enough to drink. Our entree was a 4 meat pie. When I say 4 meat, I mean that it's meat, sauce, and cheese. I thought the cheese was too copious and the sauce thin and added very little flavor. I wanted to peek in the kitchen and see if the were using SYSCO sauce. The crust was nice and crispy but the pizza - well it tasted like cheese and greasy meat. I could have the same flavor from licking the exhaust hood over the oven. The staff was very nice and efficient, and the beer selection showed some creativity, which I very much appreciate. I'll go again and try a different pie.

I went to Avellino's because I was curious about their reportedly super-spicy Il Diavolo pizza. I can confirm that those reports are 100% accurate! The Il Diavolo ($13), made with brutally hot ghost peppers, definitely lived up to its name. I love spicy food, and I can easily say this is the gnarliest dish I've ever had in Atlanta. There are plenty of other menu choices for those not inclined to sear their taste buds. I will definitely try more of their pizzas in the future. Service was excellent, and the people who work there are very nice and down to Earth. I went on a Saturday night at around 8 PM, and it was packed inside with people at the bar, tables, and just standing around having a beer, but the staff was still attentive and noticed when I walked in even though I was just there by myself. I don't like to give out 5 star reviews for anything but the best dining experiences. This was one of them. Great staff, great environment, and great pizza!

Good spot. A friend of mine has been talking about it as a favorite place to go since he lives nearby. The wait staff is great -very friendly and helpful. The pizza is great. We had the verdura which had great fresh vegetables. I got an Il Diavolo pizza to go. Holy crap! That was one of the hottest (spicey) pizzas I have ever had in my life. Me likey this place.

I'm going to try to write this review without drooling all over my laptop. My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday evening for dinner. The place was packed, so we had to wait a few minutes for a table to open (it's a very small restaurant) - but it was well worth it! We started with the bruschetta. The tomatoes and basil were so light and fresh; it was delicious! Then we each got calzones. They were huge, the ingredients were tasty and fresh, and the crust was nice and light. Love it! They also had a few good beers on tap, but the Jailhouse I got was $7 which seems a bit high for a pint of local beer (they had other beers on tap for $5, but I didn't notice the prices when ordering). If I wasn't about to move from ATL to Philly, I'd definitely be back for more calzones!

A handful of co-workers and I ventured to Avellino's for dinner break during a training class, as it was just a few hundred feet from the training center. What a fortunate choice! Although the dining room is indeed super small, we got lucky and a table for six was just opening up. This was 6pm on a weeknight, which is why there probably wasn't a large crowd (although it did start to fill up closer to 7pm. The place is really not much more than a bar with some tables shoehorned in. However, it didn't feel cramped, and the open air feel, with the high ceilings, along with clean decor, helped, making for a very enjoyable atmosphere. Service was outstanding, even though there was one waitress from what I could tell. Drinks came out fast, free refills. Our group had a pizza (supremo), meatball Parmesan sub, spaghetti and meatballs, and breaded zucchini. Was it good? The empty plates spoke for themselves. I had the meatball sub, and the meatballs were outstanding. It came with marinara on the side for dipping. The sauce was pretty simple - nothing fancy, but good. Each of the entrees came with a side salad - of which there were several choices. One of us had the Caesar, which appeared to have capicola or some other italian meat on it. I had the house salad, which was romaine lettuce, a couple grape tomatoes, and the house balsamic vinaigrette. Mine was simple but excellent. When we were finished and presented with the bill, we didn't realize that we hadn't asked for separate checks in advance. No problem - we asked the staff and they gladly split it out for all 5 of us. And the prices seemed reasonable, especially given the inclusion of a side salad with entree. Note - although Avellino's takes credit card, they do NOT take American Express, which is too bad for corporate folks from my company, as that's the corporate card we use for expenses. Cozy, clean atmosphere, superb service, excellent food, reasonable prices, and even a picture of DeNiro on the wall. If I'm ever in the area again (which probably won't be for a long time), I would go back.

Man, I USED to love this place. When it first opened, the pizzas were some of the best I've eaten in Atlanta. Awesome in nearly every way. Unfortunately, the quality has slid as their popularity increased. They have become skimpy on the cheese, and they've screwed up my pizza the last two times I ate there. WHEN THEY GET IT RIGHT, they are awesome pizzas. Unfortunately, 'getting it right' is becoming a struggle for this place.

Best pizza in Atlanta, hands down! My daughter and I went there this evening and O.M.G., I can't believe I haven't heard of the place. Thank you yelp! The crust is perfect and the ingredients taste like they've just been picked out of the garden. Amazing! The service was excellent as well! No hovering, but attentive, efficient service! I have ***FINALLY*** found my go-to pizza spot!

Best pizza we've found in Atlanta since relocating from DC this summer. The sausage is spicy, which is great, but meatballs are a good alternative if you (or your kids) aren't fans of spicy toppings. Big bonus is delivery!

Came here with a friend last night- we shared two "1/4 sheets" of the following pizzas: Quattro Carne ($17)- pepperoni, salami, hot capicola, spicy italian sausage Tutta Guarnita ($15)- pepperoni, portabello mushrooms, red peppers The 1/4 sheets are probably the equivalent of a smaller "large size" pizza, if that makes sense. The crust was thin at the bottom, and almost crispy to a fault (if that's possible) in the sense that it was almost too hard. But it tasted decent enough. The toppings, while tasty, were on the skimpy side- 1 slice of mushroom per square of sheet... I was expecting the Quattro Carne to be loaded with meat (which was the point of me ordering it)....but there was plenty of cheesy real estate everywhere. I had a pint of Wild Heaven Invocation Ale- which was terrific- I was pleasantly surprised that they had a decent beer selection on tap. I do like this place and would come again...but more toppings please. :) Oh...and this place gets uber LOUD- just fyi so you're ready for it. 3.25

The side salad is a mass of romaine, a sparse amount of generic tomatoes a glob of shredded cheese, and bottled dressing. Yuk. I can do much better at home. Cheers~

according to google maps I live exactly 3.2 miles away. according to Avellino's that's "just outside of our delivery area". the boyfriend now has his heart set on pizza, so we shall set forth in the car in a few moments to fetch this not-so-distant pie. I also ordered the spinach salad and a piece of tiramisu. this stuff better not suck.

I was already quite happy with my recent move to Decatur, but dinner at Aveliino's sealed the deal. The. Best. Great crust, wonderful toppings, sauce tastes like fresh tomatoes, and the service is exactly what casual dining should be. Just because I don't want to get dressed up doesn't mean I want pizza served with a snarl. Avellino's servers are friendly, prompt, and act like they like the food and the customers. What a revelation!

I don't mean to suggest my experience is typical for this restaurant, but I figured I might as well contribute to the knowledge pool: Ordered a pizza for delivery and it looked great! The cheese was still bubbling, the crust looked crispy and fresh, and the smell hit me in a wonderful way once I opened the box. Only one problem: it wasn't the pizza I ordered! I could have just kept it, but I was eating with some vegetarians and the pizza they had delivered was pepperoni. So I sent it back. This is pretty typical of pizza places; I used to be a delivery driver myself, so I know it's an easy mistake to make. The problem came about when I called the driver back to switch the pizzas, and he came up 15 minutes later with a pizza that looked nowhere NEAR as good as the first one. It was hard to eat... the cheese was chewy and and the crust was basically cardboard. It was worse than your average pizza from Little Caesar's, and that's really saying something. When I worked at a pizza joint, it was standard practice to to make a new pizza if the old one had spent too long sitting under a heat lamp, or to offer a free appetizer if we didn't have time to make a new pie. I could have done with that courtesy, just as I could have done with a better food experience. I will try this place for dining in, but won't be ordering delivery again. Edit: I was contacted by the owner of this restaurant who apologized and rectified the situation. Very impressive customer service. Looking forward to writing another review of Avellino's soon.

Wow. Good stuff! I got there about half an hour before my friends, and had some Garlic Cheese Bread. It was quiet, comfortable, and the cheese-bread was good. I took note of the good beers this place has, and was grateful for some wi-fi to get some work done before my friends arrived. I thought to myself, "Wow, what a cool, neighborhood hangout!" Then WHAM! It turned 6pm and the place gets slammed with families. Some nearby school activity finished and tables filled up with hordes of well-behaved children who dutifully shared slices of cheese pizza and soda. And I gotta say, the restaurant was ready for them. It got busy in a hurry, and staff handled it all in stride. My friends arrived, and we shared a "Rustica" pizza (fresh mozzarella, tomato, pancetta). It was good. I remain curious about a good ol' cheese pizza and a soda.

Fun place! We ate at the bar and fully enjoyed the hustle and bustle as the staff fed an enormous crowd of people in this tiny little restaurant. Fortunately, the weather was great and the outdoor tables could be heavily utilized. We ordered the Quattro Formaggio and the Quattro Carne, both of which were well made. Although they do not use a wood fired oven they still manage to get a little char on the crust. On both pizzas the ingredients were of high quality and the crust is well designed, holding up well to the moisture and quite tasty. I have got to say that they oversold the cheesy garlic bread- useful, principally, as a defense against vampires.

wow, the place is casual but the food is awesome. I could not believe the size of the portions for the price either, crazy! I loved the calzone and the pretzel/pizza appetizers. Will definitely return.

I try to be stingy with my 5 star ratings but Avellino's seriously impressed me. We had just moved to Decatur and I had seen this place right down the street from us - so figured it was worth a shot. Our waiter, Charlie, was super friendly and informative without being overbearing. He made us feel like regulars even though it was our first time there. On his recommendation, I ordered their salad special for the day and honestly this was the best salad I think I ever had. The veggies were perfect, fresh and full of flavor and their homemade dressing was AMAZING. Can't remember the last time I truly craved a salad, but I want that one at least once a week. My husband got their version of a Hawaiian pizza - pineapple and prosciutto. Their crust was light and crispy, not greasy and the sauce was fresh and delicious. Ordered delivery one day while we were still unpacking and it got here within 20 minutes, hot and bubbly. :) Happy to be living next to this one! I see many more visits there in my future and it shall fill the void left by moving away from my former local pizza joint, DaVinci's.

After hearing several neighbors all say how good Avellino's was, we finally tried it on a very busy Friday night. The space is not very large, so any group of more than 3 or 5 is going to nearly take over the dining space. Mitch made sure we were seated as soon as a table was set up and our server was very diligent. Our pizza's reminded us of Napoli, thin crispy crust, fresh marinara and cheese, it was a perfectly cooked pizza. Not as tough or doughy as we've experienced at other pizza places in the area. The highlight of the evening though was the canoli's. . . . YUM YUM YUM. Prices were fair, food was very good, service from Mitch was fantastic, outside of mitch it was perfectly adequate. Summary, on a busy night, we'll likely call for delivery next time rather than wait, however we will be frequenting Avellino's a lot in the future!

Absolutely loved this place. Ordered the Quattro Carne Calzone - and my lord, one of the best calzones i've ever had. it was HUGE - tons of food = 1 very happy college student. The DOUGH, so, so good. It's all homemade and I could seriously eat the dough by itself. The wait staff is incredible. I think the owner may have been waiting on my table since he threw a 10% off to us since we're Agnes Scott students. Really friendly, fun to chat to, and incredibly helpful; I'm very indecisive and I take forever to order, and they helped get the job done a lot faster! My friends ordered Lasagna and Spaghetti and they both loved their food -- their plates were completely empty : p and apparently the bread they had was awesome too! Only downside, the venue is tiny. But, they do have a decent amount of bar seating and they have several outdoor tables. Honestly though, the food is so good, who cares? We were there at 7:30 on a Tuesday night and every table was virtually full. I run by this place almost everyday, and it's always got an awesome crowd of people so I thought to myself, it clearly has to be pretty good! And let's just say, I'll be enjoying some of those delicious, cold Cannolis again very soon!

I can't get it out of my head, that damned Quattro carne. No pizza can match up that I can find. If you're in Decatur , heck, midtown, go here. This is new York style pizza, with that perfect thin crust, these guys figured out how to do it with our non new York water.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Avellino's yet! We eat there AT LEAST once a week and LOVE it. The pizza is fresh and flavorful. The crust is outstanding. Try the Margherita pizza and add Italian Sausage. Ask for the habanero pepper grinder from behind the counter to add just the perfect zing. Get the spinach salad on the side. You'll be a happy camper. I haven't had the pastas yet but they look phenomenal. Meatballs are supposed to be some of the best per other diners. Desserts and apps are equally worthy -- the garlic bread is...man!...good! As in other reviews, the space is small and seating is limited...but somehow always seems to work. We've met new friends there as we've shared a larger table or spot at the bar together. The owners have plans of expanding into the space next door which will be a huge bonus. The beer selection is limited...but very good. Same goes for the wine. Not a huge list, but very well thought out with some great glasses. With the planned expansion, both selections are expected to grow. Kennan and Mitch are the guys behind the counter that will warmly greet you. They're super and treat everyone as an old friend. They know our favorite beers and our "usual"...which makes for a fun neighborhood experience. I highly recommend your visiting my Dukedom (yelp) and Mayoral domain (4Sq.). I'll probably be there.

We ate at Avellino's for a fundraiser aimed at raising money for a local police officer. I'm guessing they were busier than usual and you should note that while the pizza is good the seating is pretty limited. The space inside isn't anything special - i mean it's nice but it's just a pizza joint with a bar, really. The seating area is L-shaped with the bar on the inside and seating around the perimeter. The pizza was very good, which to me means a lot on a night that has the staff stretched thin to fulfill orders. We also had a salad but honestly that can't be messed up. We'll definintely eat there again but will probably order take-out ahead next time 'cause it's so close to home. If it's nearby and you're looking for a change from Mojo or Mellow, this is a good option. That being said, this pizza isn't for everyone. Careful not to zoom by, though. It's hard to spot on that corner!

This has become my go-to place for Italian food. I've never had anything here that wasn't excellent. I think they make the best canolli I've ever tasted. The place does get loud and crowded, especially on the weekends but it's worth if for the excellent food and service.

Good pizza in Atlanta can be hard to find. Not exactly a NY style, the taste is similar and whether intended or not a lot closer than most places advertising it. The fried zucchini is very good too.

I've been going down the street, for convenience sake, any time that pizza craving hit. Between service, quality and price ... usually two outta three are enough to make me return, but going back to Avellion's Pizzeria reminded me of what I'd been missing. There's a reason this joint was featured on the Food Network show "Heat Seekers," it's different ... nice service, reasonable prices - great authentic Italian food.

Avellino's has good pizza and quality salads. It's a good place to get take out, and if you don't go at a peak time it's also great to eat in. They have a good beer menu and quite a decent wine list.

Really good pizza! The food is always great from here. It gets 3 stars because I have been there 6 times and they have only gotten my order right once. One time was the worst customer service experience I have ever had (Long story short: 3 hours for a cold hard pizza, the guy on the phone hung up in my face.) I have let that one go, because they always seem happy to make it better. The food will be great, the logistics of getting it could use some work.

Mitch and Keegan run a tight ship! Friendly and attentive service is only surpassed by the incredible pie. I am from NY and am accustomed to ordering by the sheet- its nice to see that here. The salad was incredible and the Creamy Italian dressing should come in a pitcher it is so good! Keep up the good work guys!

Let me start out by saying I was tentative to try Avellino's for quite some time. I walked or ran by the place about 50 times after they opened before I ever went in. It looked nice on the inside, but I just wasn't sold. When I finally did go, I was blown away. This is hands down the best pizza I've had in Atlanta. And I'm not just saying that because it's close enough to walk to and stumble home from. The ingredients are always fresh and of high quality, they have a nice selection of beer on tap, and the staff is always welcoming and attentive. Last week when I went in, my order took a little longer than usual. They comped all of the food and charged me for one glass of wine and one beer (my girlfriend and I had three drinks each). I would have gladly still paid full price, because I truly don't mind waiting for food when it's this good and I'm out enjoying a nice Friday evening. That's just how they do things here . . . the RIGHT way. One tip for everyone: it's a small establishment and they get very busy on the weekends, so go during the week or be prepared to wait a couple minutes before you get a seat. You can usually share a table with someone if you have a small group, which I find to be enjoyable because you can meet some cool people every now and then. Definitely go here. I've had almost everything on the menu and I haven't disliked any of it. If you go and you hate it, blame me and feel free to tell me about. I expect to (not) hear from you soon.

Okay, these guys continue to lie to the community. Mike P. tried to add a compliment that said "Made up experience" . This was not made up in the least. WORST PIZZA I EVER HAD!... remember, I threw it away. Stay away from these guys, apparently they have no consideration for our city nor your opinion, so who knows what they put in their food. Too bad one star is as low as I can go. I just removed a star for this place because the owner will not stop sending me messages, trying to get me to change my review. Let's keep Yelp open and honest please. To be fair, I am rating the pizza only. We had it delivered, so I can't comment on the location or staff. I can say that the person I spoke to on the phone was very nice, and they did get us the pie in the time they said they would. However, after opening the generically branded box and digging in, I soon wondered why I paid over $20 for this large 1-topping pizza. Let's put it this way, the grease would pour, not run, pour off the slices. Even the taste turned me off. The flavor and consistency reminded me of a thicker heat-and-serve version (but much thicker of course). Felt like it came from the Pizza Shack inside of a big-box store. When it comes to pizza, we always save our left overs.. Not this time, with half the thing still left, it went straight into the bin. Sorry, but not impressed.

I love Avellino's. The food is DELICIOUS and the servers truly seem to care that all of their guests have a great dining experience. I eat there at least once a week, and more if I can get away with it! A few of my favorites are, in no particular order, the Bruschetta, the Pasta Fagioli (a frequent soup offering), the Spinach and Greek salads, the Caprese sandwich, the Cheese Tortellini, and the Greco pizza. They usually have daily specials too. And as great as the food is, the service is the icing on the cake. I highly recommend Avellinos.

I had a great experience at Avellino's. I would've given it 5 stars, but I only tried one thing, and that was the IL DIAVOLO which is topped with GHOST PEPPERS (the hottest peppers on Earth!). Best of all I finished the 10" in one sitting accompanied with some Wild Heaven draft beer (get it - Diavolo countered with a piece of Heaven!) The staff was super friendly. Great vibe there. I recommend everyone to try it out, especially if your up for the Diavolo challenge.

I've eaten at Avellino's and had it delivered. Each time I've really enjoyed it a lot. I've never had a bad pie, and everyone there is really nice as well. The sauce, crust and ingredients are really fresh. Just don't mess with the habenero pies unless you keep baby wipes in the freezer.

I really like this place. Came in Friday early evening for a quick bite and was surprised to see very few people inside. I then realized it was 5:30, who eats that early anyway? Located in the small strip known as the 'Homer Simpson' it's on the far end, easy parking here unless it's a real busy night, there's spots in front and on the side and people park across the street too in the grass if needed. Two iron tables sit outside and inside, an L-shaped bar sits with tables to the sides, plenty of glass lets a lot of light so it's warm and inviting. Six beers on tap, several in bottles, wine too though I skimmed over that part and ordered a Palm amber ale. Yum. Menu is one page, short and sweet, so there's not a lot of confusion which is nice. They have a few apps, salads, pizzas, calzones, and larger pasta entrees, so it's not just pizza, but I got a small pepperoni pizza because I was in that mood. I always am I think. The oven is right behind the bar so I saw it go in and promptly come back out when ready, no one let it burn or take it out and let it sit and get cold. It was delicious, just what I was craving, thin and crisp crust with just the right amount of cheese and thick pepperoni, good sauce without being overdone. Yum. Service was super friendly and everyone working was polite, asking how I was doing, checking on the meal, etc., and not to be crude, but the young lady who waited on me had an AMAZING ass, one of the best I've ever seen. I mean, wow. She was very cute too, so that's definitely a reason for me to go back on top of the great food. I'd even go back if it wasn't that great just to see her again, but I can be happy knowing if it's her day off I'll still enjoy the experience. Is that too creepy? Oops. So definitely one to put on regular rotation when I'm in the area, and one more to add to my great pizza list. There's not a lot of them so it's a nice addition to have.

Atlanta and Decatur are not known for good pizza with the exception of Antico, Varasano's and Fritti, all located in Atlanta. With that said, Avellino's beats out: Mojo, Urban Pie, Mellow Mushroom, Grant Central, Savage, Everybody's, Little Azio and Fellini's. I'd say it ties Zucca and Cameli's. The cheese is freshly grated daily, and the dough is freshly made. They have a new manager and have stabilized and expanded their hours. You'll also find they have a really nice granite bar with four draft beers (couldn't see which). The place feels clean and is clean - scores 95 and 96 from the county health dept. When I don't feel like battling the OTPers at Antico in a contest to see who can be more off-putting, I'll be at Avellino's.

Closed for lunch. Closed Mondays. Above says open at 4. Never have I seen them open till later. So, since this place gets 4 stars, I longed for a great pizza only available at limited times and around the corner. Whatever. The pizza is definitely lacking. Where's the meat and cheese? Crust was ok, I guess. I liked the spicy tang in the sauce. The $7.50 greek salad was pathetic, terrible dressing and romaine- no toppings again. I'm disappointed that this great space is going unappreciated. The place has a bar feel. Maybe someone should reconsider and just call this a pub with lame pizza. But I might say, the pub feel is quite nice.

I finally got a chance to check out Avellino's the other night and I have to say I was impressed. I tried last week only to find they are closed on Monday... The space is pretty small so if it's busy you may not get a seat, but the food is worth the wait. The menu has a great selection of "specialty" pizzas as well as calzones, lasagna etc. I had the Prima Supremo pizza w/ Pepperoni, Beef, red onions, green peppers and portabello mushrooms and it was damn tasty! Good crust in a medium thick style which fortunately wasn't too thick but remained a little crispy and not too bready. They make a good sauce so the overall flavor was quite nice. Service was very friendly and reasonably fast. Drink refills were speedy so I can't complain! So all in all, I'm glad I finally stopped in! I wish I had done so sooner!

Decided to try a newish local pizza place this snowy Saturday and boy were we glad we did. Had great service, really good pizza and the best cannolis I've had outside of Little Italy in NYC and Pittsburgh. The pizza dough was made there along with homemade sauce and all of the ingredients being very fresh. We will definitely be going back to this little neighbor gem of a pizza place. Their hours are from 4-9 pm on weeknights and 4-10pm during the weekend.

Living in the neighborhood and primarily ordering takeout, we finally managed to take the long mile walk to Avellino's. Why did we wait so long. Great cozy atmosphere where many locals go and the waitstaff know by name. We both had calzones expecting thick breaking surrounding minimal goodies inside. Not here. Except for the edges, these were the best calzones I have had. The cheese stretched for miles before it broke and able to wind around my fork. The marinated vegetables, gardiniera, were a bit spicy but tasty. Thank goodness we had the long mile walk home to work off our dinner.

I got "delivery" from this place last night. I ordered the 10" personal-sized Mt. Vesuvius pie (hot sopressata & habanero peppers). What I got was a pizza with peppers (maybe habaneros - they weren't that hot). There was no meat - none. Only 2 ingredients on the pizza - it should be simple, right? I guess not. Eh, not thrilled about that...especially considering the pizza is already a bit overpriced at $10 anyway... The pizza I got was the same style they have at Enzo's: thin crust, a little bit of char. It's pretty decent, but probably not gonna win any awards. I also sampled the meat lover's sheet pizza. The sheet pizza is a thicker crust which I like more. There was actually meat on this pizza. The sheet pizza is definitely better than the small thin crust pizza. Anyway, I can't really comment on the restaurant since I didn't eat there. But the food was only alright and the service was not good (how can you forget one of the toppings on a 2 topping pizza? Especially one that's one of your specialty pizzas). I'm sure that's probably just a fluke but it's kind of a big one. They have a number of other options besides pizza though so maybe I'll head back for a calzone or a panino sometime soon. 2.5

After living in VA for quite a few years and traveling around the south a bit, I came to the conclusion that I would never have good pizza again...unless I went back home to Philly. While in Atlanta visiting the in-laws they stated that they found a pizza place that they visit often that has top notch pizza and they serve if by the sheet. For the people that didn't know, pizza is served in NY by the sheet as well as the standard circular pizza. So stop hating on the sheet aspect if you don't understand it. Any who, this a small place so it does get busy in the evening, however on this day it was fairly empty. This place has pretty decent beers on tap and I went with the jailhouse IPA. It is a local brew and it was a straight forward IPA and it was good. We started with the garlic cheese bread. These bread sticks were solid. It is almost like a mini Stromboli stuffed with cheese and garlic and topped with olive oil and Parmesan. For pizza we went with the margharita and the Quattro Carne. Both pizzas were very good and the crust was the best part. Finally, a pizza that had a thinner crust with a crunch, not too crunchy, instead of a rubbery consistency. Both pizzas were very good and cooked well. The owner, Mitch, was very nice and welcoming along with the waitress we had. Next time I come to visit, we will definitely be returning here.

I used to live around the corner from this place and being an Italian from New England, I was really, really looking forward to their opening. The second time/try my girlfriend and I went in, we decided to split a large(?) pizza with toppings. (I question "large" because I'm used to one slice being a meal itself and not having the entire pie fit on a cafeteria tray.) I realize their menu has changed but at this time we were told they couldn't mix and match toppings. We ended up being charged $2.00 for every topping, two on my half and two on my girlfriends, driving the price of the pizza up another $8.00. Money's not the issue but the principal because 3 of the 4 toppings we wanted were already on one of their fixed menu specials. My gripe is the ingredients were the same, the dough, the time to make it...why wouldn't they just say "hey order this instead - it's the same thing you want basically but cheaper ?" So after a large pizza, 2 beers and tip, the bill came to around $40-$43(?) We ate half and boxed the rest to go. After leaving to finish errands we realized that we left our box on the table when we left. We came back after literally an hour (this I remember) and the waitress had already tossed our stuff smiling when she said "Oh, we didn't think you were coming back." For what we got and what we paid, would it have been too much trouble to place our box to the side and if we had still not returned, just thrown the remains out at the end of the night. Definitely not going back.

I dig Avellino's pizza! It's definitely a different type of pizza than say from Mojo's (in Oakhurst) which is a good thing. I would say that Avellino's is more "gourmet". We usually get the Verdura which is basically a veggie pizza and it is awesome. We've also just started getting the Isolano which has panchetta, feta, and mozzarella. The crust is thin and the ingredients are very fresh. I've also had the pastas (ziti, spaghetti) and they are also good but nothing to rave about. They also have a great selection of beers and Mitch is always willing to educate you on the new stuff they have in stock. We'll be back (often)!

OK, so I'm looking for pizza places near my house, and I drive by Avellinos often. My husband and I decided to give it a try, despite it's lackluster reviews on yelp.com . I wish we had listened. The location is great, and it's a cute restaurant. There are only about 7 tables inside, and on the gorgeous night we visited, there were 2-3 outdoor tables that were full. We went in and were told that we could sit wherever we wanted. Shortly, a strange, dark haired waitress came over to us. We told her that this was our first visit (which normally elicits a very friendly welcome from staff), and she appeared that she could not care less. She also had the most unnerving habit of staring directly into your eyes (very intense and a little creepy), but no smile or any friendly response. It made me feel very uncomfortable. As she walked away, my husband and I both remarked that she didn't have the right personality to be dealing with the public. We asked about what was the most popular pizza, and she seemed like this was an odd question. My husband was in the mood for meatballs, but doesn't tolerate italian sausage well, so we asked about the meatballs, thinking that they would be made in-house... they weren't. This was disappointing because it seems like it would be a less expensive, better option than to buy frozen meatballs. As it turns out, they have a combination of italian sausage and beef, so we didn't order that and instead ordered the Calzone w/pepperoni and a pizza with pancetta, pineapple and feta. I was probably most disappointed in the drink situation. I ordered a coke, and my hubby asked for iced tea (we're in Georgia and EVERYONE has tea!). There was no tea, so he got water (which we were charged for although our waitress didn't tell us that, and it wasn't mentioned on the menu). When the drinks came, there was no ice, and my coke was in a can (!) without the offer of a glass. I really hate that because I drink like a camel, and one can of coke doesn't cut it-especially with pizza. When we asked for ice, we were told that they have made a conscious choice not to have it. I found that really strange, especially since they keep frozen meatballs. A man (who I think might be the owner) said that ice machines were unsanitary (?). I can't imagine that it's any more unsanitary than placing my mouth on a dirty soda can, but WHATEVER. As for the food, it took about 45 minutes (my coke was long gone), but my calzone was really good. The bread was soft, the cheese was gooey and garlicky. Hubby's individual pizza looked like it had been baked a little too long. He did say that he liked the small chunks of pineapple, but he wouldn't order it again. The price for the pizza/calzone was only $7-$8 each, which was a good deal, especially since we paid too much for our drinks. I would have ordered cannoli, but we had waited so long for our entrees, I was ready to go, and I didn't want to pay for another drink. I had mixed feelings about this place. I'd be likely to place an order for pick up, but the overall restaurant experience was well below average.

Wow..love this place and big supporter - both at the restaurant and delivery. We tried to order tonight and were told we're outside their delivery address, they only have one driver and we've only ordered once via delivery. That isn't true-we've had deliver 10+times. Very disappointing.

Only had take out pizza from Avellino's (at a friend's party, with a variety of their pizzas). Tho the pizza(s) were pretty cool (room temp) by the time I ate them, they were still very flavorful and despite prior comments re: lack of toppings, these pizzas all had very sufficient toppings on each pizza type (and we had a least 5-6 different types of pizzas). No shortage of toppings here! I have no real complaints with Avellino's pizza, only maybe that the bread crust (dough) is somewhat thick, so if you don't like a thicker, dough-ier, chewier crust, then this place isn't for you. Otherwise, not bad. Even still, I'll take Antico any day, in terms of overall pizza TASTE. Simply doesn't get (and taste) any more authentic than Antico's. However, this place is still yummy and worth a try, take out or otherwise. Enjoy!

Apparently they think it's a good idea to have a pizza place that closes at 9pm during the week and 10pm on weekends?!?!? generally speaking, I find myself and most of my friends order pizza for delivery after 9pm, let alone go there to eat, which I've tried to do 3 times and for them to be shut each time. Think about it, for an average weekday dinner service, they are open until 9pm. Most people don't get home from work before 6pm... give them 30 minutes to figure out that they want pizza and then either go to the restaurant or order for delivery from there and we're talking them only being practically open 2.5 hours a day... and they wonder why they are having a tough time of it. This is all besides the quality of the food, which due to their crazy opening hours, I've never had. I can say that it really does take something to make me review some place I've never even been, but this nonsense calls for it.

I've been to Avellino's several times over the past few months. It is consistently satisfying pizza. I usually go for a 1/2 sheet with a mix of veggies and cured meat. The veggies and meat are obviously top quality. The dough and crust is nothing spectacular, but I'm not a dough and crust snob. If it's not bad, then I don't care. I'm all about the toppings and the toppings here are great. For a little extra rib packing goodness, go for the cheese garlic bread. It can sometimes be heavy on the garlic, but it'll cure what ails ya.

Avellino's deserves a solid 4 stars and has become a go-to option for us since moving to Decatur. The staff is very friendly and treat you like family. Their pizza is top notch and beat out some of the pricier options in the area. I usually get the Rustica (mozzarella, tomato & pancetta) but all the pizzas are good. Their pasta dishes are a little on the basic side but good homestyle Italian meals.

Great pizza in the neighborhood !! I love their food and the staff is always friendly. This is a fun little neighborhood hangout. The only downside is that it's pretty small but that lead us to order delivery and they get it to you fast and hot!!

FIRST! I truly want to give this place 3.5 stars not 3, but just not quite there on 4 stars yet. I have been excited that a new pizza place was opening in the neighborhood. I have been driving by the mixed use building it's now opened in. I almost wrecked the car on Monday when I drove by and I saw people were inside and enjoying something I wasn't and was waiting on. In addition I was even more aggravated I was driving to another restaurant to pickup a to go order. I finally went 2 nights ago and was very pleased. It's small and simple. They have a great large quartz bar that seats about 8-10 people and faces the kitchen. They have a couple of tables that seat 4 and maybe 3 that seat two and a table or two outside depending on the climate. The staff were super! They were interested not only in people coming inside but about their menu as well. They seemed excited to say the least and I was too. I could not wait to try the foods. I had the chance and was lucky to try out a lot of items from the menu. First and foremost if you get the Mt. Vesuvius pie be ready. I love spicy food as you know and the Italian volcano did not let me down. It's a delicious mix of Avellino's homemade tomato sauce, a nice selection of mozzarella, habanero pepper slices, Gorgonzola, and sopressata. It is so hot but there is absolutely no chance you can quit eating it. You obviously ordered this because you like spicy foods so don't stop. The pain will subside soon enough. The salads are fresh and large. I sampled the side salad with the house dressing and it's exactly what you want for that type of greens. The spinach salad w/the raspberry vinaigrette was pretty good but lacked a little something. Maybe some arugula would be a nice addition or some added mescalin. The dressing seemed a little too much like it came off a Kroger shelf but that is to be seen. The ravioli is also a nice delight but again something reeks of just a little too much prepackaged processed food that comes off of a massive delivery truck. That is not always an immediate bad thing of course but some places rely on these massive companies a little too much to pick 'the freshest' items for them without doing their own shopping. Makes it a little tough in the neighborhood if the food love isn't there and also that the Dekalb Farmers Market is so damn close. Avellino's also has a very tasty beverage selection with some general and some headier draughts and an easily affordable and tasty wine selection. Guaranteed I will frequent this place and eat everything on the menu more than once. Stay tuned for updates :)

We really like this place and recommend it if you like the "flat crust" style pie similar to Fritti and Baraonda. The service is great and owner very friendly. The restaurant itself is cozy with a fun outdoor patio. Only criticism is that the pizza doesn't reheat very well and the crust gets tough.

Went there tonight and had the cheesy garlic bread and calzone and my husband had the ziti. Amazing! The cannoli is a great finish. My only complaint, if even, is not enough seating.

Always have great food and service! Mitch thank you for your generosity and hospitality. Avellino's Pizza is a great neighborhood spot! Love the Greek Salad and every pizza I have tried!

We stumbled upon this place while looking for Isabella's Café one night (it's a few doors down). Since then, we've been there at least 5 times -- it's our go-to place for casual, yet great wine and food place. It's located outside of downtown Decatur on the Agnes Scott side on College Ave. Parking is a little tricky if the spaces in front are filled, but if you go down the side street (forgot the name), you'll find something on the street without a problem. The best thing about Avellino's is the customer service. The 2 guys running the place are absolutely wonderful--they remember your name, what you order to drink and treat you like old friends even after just one visit. The place is really small, but if you have to wait for a table, they'll take care of getting you a drink as soon as you walk in the door, and I've never waited more than 10 minutes to sit down. You will never stand at the door being ignored here. Also, they have plans to expand into the next building, so they'll have more room soon. The food is good, especially their salads. The spinach salad is my favorite with goat cheese, dried cranberries and raspberry dressing, but the Greek and caprese are also great. The pizza is good, but not outstanding to me. Don't get me wrong, it's good, I'm just more of a Fritti's style pizza girl. They also have pasta and sandwiches too, which we haven't tried yet but will soon. So, I rate a 3.5 for the food and a solid 5 for the way we're treated by the people working there....truly refreshing. Check it out.

If all pizza places were like this! It's a lot of fun, and the food is really good. It really kind of has that feel of your neighborhood Italian pizza shop, with a hint of American sports bar lightly added in.

We visited Avellino's for the first time last week. We had heard the owners had New York roots, and having lived in Brooklyn for several years, we had to see for ourselves if the pizza lived up to the New York promise. If you're a fan of NYC-mainstays Lombardi's, Grimaldi's and Franny's, you'll likely be disappointed. But if you're looking for a small, local spot that serves up good pizza, you'll enjoy your experience. The owners steer clear of the trend to serve pizzas with over-the-top, trendy topping combinations that you'd likely find on an episode of 'Top Chef.' We tried the Mt Vesuvius pie (with hot sopressata and habanero peppers). Hot and tasty. We'll be placing another order for this one soon. I'm a big believer in supporting local businesses and I'm keeping my fingers crossed Avellino's sticks around for a while. I give them 3 1/2 stars.

Better than average pizza and popular with the young families! We met friends for dinner, both had our kids with us, and pretty much everyone else there did too. We were also early so I imagine as the night goes on the crowd changes. The place is currently pretty small, but they told us they were expanding to add more seating in the space next door very soon. Originally their intent was primarily take out and delivery, but they are adapting to what the neighbors need - very nice. The food was well priced, and tasty. We had a great spinach salad to start, and a half sheet pizza fed 4 adults well. Some canoli and tiramisu were a nice finish. House wine was good and cheap. We will visit again! Also look for the real Emmy Award statue on the wall - not something you stumble across every day.

I've been to this place that's just down the street from me a few times and have been really impressed. Small place, very clean, with a friendly staff. The food is topnotch; pizza and salads are consistently great and I've had specials a couple of times that are quite good too. The owner makes an award-winning espresso, too.

It was my first visit to Avellino's last weekend and I had a great pizza here. We got the Margaretta and added peperoni. Nothing fancy but the crust is better than any other pizza place around here. Good craft beer selection and new management will make this place a local favorite of mine for sure.

Contrary to some of the previous reviews, I've found Avellino's to be great. Their pizza is definitely among the best I've tasted in Atlanta. I found the service to be fast and very friendly. Their not having an ice maker wasn't an issue for me because I drank what naturally goes with pizza-beer. However if you knew what kind of bacteria are living inside many commercial ice makers, you'd probably thank them rather than considering it a negative. Just sayin' :-) The only reason I didn't give them five stars is that they do close a bit early. Overall though, I really like this restaurant and will definitely go back again.

Their main issue is they are rarely open. Something is up with this place as it's open a total of 27 hours in one week. Not sure how they are making a profit and they are never crowded. Anyhow, the pizza is good, service is ok, salads are great. Don't think they can stay open unless they are washing money in the back.

I'm something of a pizza snob, having spent most of my life in Chicago and NYC, so when I moved to Arlanta, I was quite disappointed with the dull, flavorless pizzas I found here. Then I discovered Avellino's. Their pizza is delicious, with a light but substantial crust, a great tomato sauce, and fresh, high quality toppings. Plus, they have amazing salads (try the caprese), and other delights like cannolis. We have always had great experiences there - the staff is busy, but friendly, and the food is consistently excellent.

I was happy to hear about Avellino's opening since it's in the neighborhood and hey, we need more local pizza. The patio looked nice, but was full, so we sat inside. The interior is clean and perhaps a bit fancy for a pizza joint, but happily it still feels relaxed, unlike Varasano's. My fiancee ordered a glass of water and our waiter announced their policy of charging $1 for house-filtered water. It would be nice if they volunteered tap water as an option. Four beers are available on tap, including Brooklyn Lager and Harpoon IPA. There are also a couple goodies among the bottled list: Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier and Chimay's dubbel. We split a quarter sheet of the margherita. Their take on it is mozzarella cheese (not fresh) across the whole pie, quartered grape tomatoes (no sauce), sliced basil, and minced garlic. The cheese and tomato situation is kind of the opposite of what I'd expect on a margherita, but pizza varies so much and no one claimed it was supposed to be Neapolitan, so that wasn't a big deal to me. The pie itself was disappointing, though. We both felt it had very little flavor. Seems to me that the dough was missing some salt and it would really benefit from either more tomato or a proper sauce. These guys have only been open for a few weeks and I think they've got potential, so hopefully they're still working on their pies.

my family has a tradition of eating pizza on christmas eve, but that has been hard to keep up in decatur where everything closes. we live just a few streets down from avellino's, but had never eaten there before because of mixed reviews from friends. well, they were open on christmas eve, so the decision was made. we popped in for a to-go pizza and were ultra impressed with the offerings. the wine list is varied and affordable. the beer selection is ginormous (plus, if you're opting for to-go orders, ale yeah is right next door with some awesome beer options). we're vegetarian, but as a former meat eater, i did notice an extensive list of specialty pizzas that omnivores would enjoy :) we got the verdura (veggie) pizza, and it was delicious!! it had portabellos, calamata olives, roasted red peppers, mozzerella and maybe something else yummy.... anyhow, it was perfect. not too greasy, not too cheesy and square cut - my fave! the staff was really nice and accommodating. but what puts this place over the top for me is the tiramisu. holy smokes - it is so delicious! and walking distance from my house - dangerous! so why 4 stars and not 5? really loud frat boy music inside. if i were to eat there, the music would have to change. also, 72" lcd devoted to espn - not my jam. i'll dine outside when it gets warmer and continue to order out till then. YUM!
