We love hibachi! The kids love to watch the onion volcanos. We don't get to visit often because the price can be steep with a large family. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is sometimes the wait can be super long. Otherwise we enjoy eating there.

This is mine and the Bride's "GO TO" date night place. Wonderful Sushi. "SPICY MAKI COMBO" is a must have! The place is always quite and warmly lit. I love the music they play!!!!! (Instrumental church hymns). We've NEVER had a bad experience here. Sooner or laters I'll have to try the Hibachi
(5)Wei W.
This is the best Japanese restaurant I have ever had! Every meal comes with soup and salad. That's so sweet! Katsu box is great and comes with sushi too!

Came for a Sunday lunch with the family because everyone said we had to try this over osaka. Walking in the restaurant has a much better atmosphere and more hibachi tables than Osaka. Out chef was very entertaining and we ended up having a great conversation with him as well. As far as the food goes I honestly think it's very comparable to osaka except it is more expensive. Paying an extra 1.50 for each meals fried rice when it comes standard at osaka in addition to the starting prices being more I just don't see a reason to pick this restaurant over the other. Glad we gave it a try though.

We stopped in for dinner here on the way to our hotel in Gainesville. Decided a lil sush sounded tasty. We aren't hibachi fans so can't comment on that aspect of the restaurant. Will just critique the raw sushi. Which is never a good idea when you aren't anywhere near the coast. ;) Props to the friendly service and must say that they are very generous on the portions. But the quality wasn't as high as it could be and the decor and landscape could use some cleaning and refreshing (picture textured splash painted walls of press board, rough cut painted frame ledges, very dirty windows and worn out table tops). I also wasn't impressed with the restroom facilities which is a tell tale sign of overall cleanliness for me personally. While they clearly try to give you an authentic 'American-ized' Japanese experience with free hot tea & hot wash cloths, it isn't exactly upscale in my opinion and felt over done. The servers were in full Japanese garb. Didn't feel comfortable. But the place got crowded at dinner time so I'm guessing the locals enjoy it as the company has several locations. Just wasn't my cup of tea... The ambiance was a bit of a buzz kill for me from the start. But what about the food you ask?.. My husband and I ordered sashimi (BTW, the menu is large & confusing) and while we were satisfied with the amount and variety, the presentation was lacking. All the fish was chunked in HUGE pieces. We had to use our forks to cut them down to eat with chopsticks. Definitely could have been sliced with more precision for $25 a pop. Also, the texture was a bit soft or mushy on all varieties of fish. It didn't necessarily taste old or overly fishy, but it definitely reminded me of fish that had been frozen for a while and not fresh from the airport/from the boat if you catch my drift. It is a neat place for kids as they have a beautiful salt water tank, a kids menu and oil pastels for the little ones to draw a creation while you wait. It gets a B-. Not the worst but not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again.

Stopped by today for lunch. I ate on the restaurant seating side versus the Hibachi grill. The service was fast and the food was very good. Had the steak and shrimp along with spring rolls. The soup was tasty and the salad was fresh. Overall a very good experience. The Chinese Japanese options in Dawsonville are limited at best. Kani House is the best in this cuisine at the moment. Definitely not the cheapest meal, but worth the money.
(4)Michelle G.
Exceptional! food is exquisite, decor is super slick, Sous Chef's incredibly talented and adventurous
(5)Jasmine H.
The best hibachi so far! Food quality is excellent. A groupon brought my boyfriend and I here for dinner. We were at the outlets so the Dawsonville location was convenient. We were greeted with smiles of the hostess. The chef was funny and very entertaining. The waiter was attentive and friendly. Big portions and a lot of food. Soup and salad as you wait for the chef. Then your entree with shrimp as an appetizer, and ice cream for dessert. Shogun is our main place for hibachi, but now it will definitely be Kani House. Hope every location is as good as this one.

Reservations were called in for 1pm on a Sunday - I thought this was strange until we got in there. I guess the further down I go from NJ the "BR" in brunch gets dropped and that weekday "L" of lunch is added right back in. Pancakes are sushi. Eggs are steak. Omelettes are fancy oil onion tricks. I've been here a few times - we stop here most of the time just after I land in ATL and are on our way up up up the highway. I almost always get sushi - I figure it is the healthier of choices at any hibachi type restaurant. Don't expect too many riceless options - I don't think I saw any. There are, however, plenty of traditional, all raw items to choose from. Fish is good, rice is good. They go a little heavier on the rice, so you won't need as many rolls / you may want to supplement with an order of sashimi. The rest of my usual group always heads down Hibachi lane - steak, chicken, shrimp...all good. I've dabbled in the fried rice and found it delicious (also heavy & plentiful, so if you are trying to take it easy in the land of rice, you may want to split one of those with someone. Steamed brown/white rice is also readily available.) Hit or miss areas - not so much the service as the order in which things come out. We were here twice during my last visit, and both times I was the only one that ordered sushi, and both times it came 15 minutes earlier than the rest of the food. Today, my sushi came out, then one bento box 10 minutes later, then someone else's appetizer 5 minutes after that, then the rest of the food another 10 minutes after that. I was more confused than anything - but food came, we all ate, it was good, and everyone was happy. It's really hard to complain because everyone that works here is SO NICE, so just take this as a nice FYI for any future visits featuring a mix of sushi and hibachi.

Very good place to get sushi and hibachi. They are on the pricier side but still pretty comparable in price to other Japanese restaurants. The sushi is really good here. The hibachi is good too. I've ate here about 5 times already and every hibachi chef that I've had has cooked good and been entertaining. This is a great place for a date or to take your kids to.
(4)Lizzie P.
I thought the food was just so so at Kani House. It seemed a little oily to me and I just couldn't get into it it didn't seem fresh. Will go back and try the sushi.
(2)Tod D.
My wife and I are big Japanese food fans and have probably eaten at 30+ restaurants around the country. We did not eat at the hibachi table but ordered of the menu. Hopefully this was a really bad night for them but the food was hands down the worst I have had. Everything from the salad, tempura to even the rolls was really off in both flavor and texture. We will steer clear of this one. I hope your experience is better.
(2)Adam F.
Not a bad place for lunch. The food was average. About what one would expect, no surprises here. It could've been better and it could've been worse. The service was good and the dining room and restroom was clean. There was just no WOW factor. I am sure if one goes at dinner and sits at the hiabachi, one would have a different experience. I would give this place another chance if in the area. My only complaint would be the entrance is a little difficult to negotiate.

This is in reference to the Dawsonville location. Been there twice. Disappointed the first time, and walked out the next time. Here's the second visit in a nut shell. Was served cold miso soup with FUNIONS thrown into it!! WHAT!?!? Funions?!? Were you out of scallions and you thought this was a reasonable substitute? It isn't. When you take fried food and throw it into a liquid it get soggy and slimy. News flash, I know. This was probably the worst food service I have ever received. Just because it is Valentine's day that is no excuse for poor service. I called this restaurant THREE times the day before to make/ revise reservations and when we arrived they only had written down the number of people from the FIRST time I called. Even with reservations we waited 30-45 minutes. When they called to seat us the woman moved us from one part of the waiting area to another and then went to retrieve other guests. We waited 10 MORE MINUTES after our name had been called to be seated. Our seats were available and NO ONE WALKED US TO OUR SEATS! Then when we asked why no one walked us to our seats the hostess replied "well you're here now!" The waitress took forever, did not accommodate us when the sweet tea did not taste sweet enough, did not turn the stove on for the chef so we had to wait 15 MORE minutes, the chef ran out of bowls to put sauce in so we went half the meal with no sauce, the sushi looked like it was from a cheap hibachi buffet and they ran out of the desert that came with the Valentine's special. The service here was deplorable and down right unacceptable. DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT HORRIBLE SERVICE AND HAVE 4 HOURS OF TIME TO SPARE FOR ONE MEAL!
(1)Joye L.
Great hibachi with kids - a ton of food one $6 kids meal was plenty for our 2 and 5 year old. Had the Hula Chicken which was delicious and heading home with half of it. Kids also loved the umbrella in the drinks! Will definitely come back if we're up by the outlets at dinner time.
(4)Terri S.
The food was good and we enjoyed it, but the service was sub-standard, at best. We had to go to the hostess table (twice) to get a waitress to come to our table for basic service. Will not be going back anytime soon because of the lousy service. Oh well!
(2)Janice O.
We usually go to benihanas so we wanted to try out a new hibachi place. We came here right at opening time on a Saturday so it was obviously not busy at all yet. I'm just used to the non creamy ginger dressing. The soup was very simple. It could have used a tiny bit more flavoring but it was a good palette cleanser. I think we'll be back.
(4)Bob O.
Great food but is little more on the expensive side but never had to wait over 5-10 minutes
(4)Brian P.
I really didn't want to come tonight, but the kids did... Turns out, best hibachi, and sushi combined with the best service and show I have had at one of these type places. I recommend the "older" John Park as the chef... Amazing.. We loved this place and look forward to a return trip.
(5)Brett S.
This is an update. Had dinner tonight and had the Habashi shrimp. Very good. The place is very clean and noticed the County last review gave them a 100A which is the highest I have ever seen. These people try very hard tp please and a great place to bring the kids.
(4)Ginny S.
My mother, sister and I had the privilege of dining here today. It was wonderful and well worth the $14.95 each for a hibachi meal. We chose NY strip steak and shrimp as the entrees. The shrimp was very succulent and tasty and the steak was prepared perfectly to order. Our chef gave a good performance minus the distasteful spectacle of throwing shrimp in our mouths. It was a very pleasant dining experience and I'll certainly return!
(4)Louis S.
First I want it to be clear that I gave this a 3 star rating mostly because of the food. Now the very first thing that got to experience at this place was the bad attitude by the lady at the host stand. We had to move around our seating time so our entire party could eat together. Apparently you can not do that without some explaining, then when we have all of our party there we got back to the host stand as previously instructed. The lady raised her voice then wnet a head and said I will seat you when I can. So not only did we get lied to, we had to wait yet another half hour or so for us to get seated. We got seated then waited another 15 or so minutes for a waiter to come by. Finally he came by and got the drink order then proceeded to take the food order, this is where it got hairy for us. We then ordered an apple juice for my niece along with a side of rice before the hibachi show even started. The food show began and all that had to do with the food and the hibachi chef was great, really nothing wrong to report there. Food was great and some of the best shrimp that I have ever had. We were near the completion of our meals and still no rice for my niece. Finally they brought it out and they charged us 3.95 for the smallest cup of fried rice ever, also there is a $3 up charge to have fried rice with anything. Drinks were only filled up twice during the duration of the meal. So needless to say the service was horrible and I feel for the hibachi chefs because they get tipped out with the wait staff which is bad so then they suffer when they do not have any control over the service. I suggest either making a large time slot to eat there or going somewhere else if your looking for some great service because this place is not it. And to boot all of this was on Mothers Day....

Let me start off saying that i love Japanese food, so for me finding good Japanese place to eat is very important. I went to this place like 10 times and let me say i was not disappointed each time. They offer the best sushi in town by far, their diversity of sushi's is amazing. I order sushi every time i go, i didn't even tried half of what they offer. Hibachi was great too. Soup and salad were really good. Service was nice, i cant recall getting mad at them even for sec. Overall excellent place for sushi lovers.

Revised: SO SORRY, Kani House, Dawsonville!! I meant to post the negative review of the Cumming locatio!! The Dawsonville location, go figure, is always exceptional!! Great service, great, fresh food--and oh, those rice options!!! (CUMMING LOCATION:Terrible service last time we went in for sushi. First time we went, service was ok but we did hibachi and it was so-so. The Dawsonville location however is EXCELLENT!!!)
(4)Robert B.
Dog friendly patio out front. No assault with blaring music pumped through speakers, thank God! A peaceful meal in a super clean restaurant with high ceilings and an Asian feel inside. Quality fresh food prepared by maticulous people. Always perfect service. Best value is the hibachi grill for lunch. Good cut of salmon by an Asian chef. Try the ginseng soju body tonic.
(5)Brian S.
avereage sushi, decent service, never sat at the hibachi always the sushi bar. Not sure why I keep going back but I do. Consistanly average I guess.

Do NOT get what you order and NOT refunded either, they advertise Porterhouse but do not deliver At the Hibachi grill - Ordered the Porterhouse for $29.95. The cook pulled out a little t-bone, looked at it, placed it back under the grill. After cooking everyone else's meat, he pulled the very thin little t-bone out, grilled it and said it was a Porterhouse (16 oz). I got the manager involved who backed up the chef. After I refused the meat, ate only the vegetable and rice, the manager said he would refund $10 for the meat. When he brought back the receipt, he charged me the ENTIRE $29.95!! Total RIPOFF and lousy food. Have told EVERYone we know and they agree the food is terrible. Will be writing more reviews for them. Hope another restaurant takes over SOON !!

The food was good and we enjoyed it, but the service was sub-standard, at best. We had to go to the hostess table (twice) to get a waitress to come to our table for basic service. Will not be going back anytime soon because of the lousy service. Oh well!
