Ok, but not great. Cute small town atmosphere and lots of locals so she must have something going, but not for me. Fried chicken on the dry side, field peas bland, fried okra not moist, coffee average, cornbread nothing special. Too bad, as I was all set for a delicious home cooking style treat. Alas. Fortify, across the street, is a different kind of place, and real good.

Charming, good old school food, reasonable prices. The staff was Southern funny and just quirky enough to be real. Had a cheeseburger and a salad, but the specials looked fun. Worth going out of the way for.

The food we ordered came prepared instant and microwaved. A few fresh items are available on the menu, but this is a 3 star at best.

Best Food in town; Doris is the best waitress; ask for her!!!!!!

GREAT food and VERY friendly service!! We had the roast beef, mash potatoes, and gravy. We ate every drop!!! It was DELICIOUS!! The lady that runs the restaurant, may be the owner, was very friendly and kept us entertained! She told us the history of the restaurant. We read that their fried chicken was voted best in Clayton. Now we want to go back to try the chicken!

Great short stack!!! Great place for an "old school" breakfast.

Excellent food w/ very fair prices. Only reason I didn't go for 5 stars is because they don't accept credit cards and don't have a sign on the door that says Cash Only. Apparently not open for dinner either, because we ate lunch there on Thursday and went back on Friday to eat an early dinner at 6 and they were closed.

Good, great hospitality. Daily special meat and two veggies for $10. Cash only.

Great food and friendly service in a wonderful atmosphere! I've known the owner for years and years and she's always treated me like family. I especially love the desserts!

I love traveling around the country and in particular going to small towns such as Clayton. It seems that any small-town worth its salt has at least one or two small-town cafés such as this one. We walked in and I was immediately taken back to my childhood when my granddad and I, after doing our early-morning chores, would go to his café and solve the worlds problems with his buddies. Little has changed, with the exception of there were no smokers in the joint! No sooner have you ordered and had your first sip of coffee, you realize you are in the middle of several conversations going throughout the restaurant... And sooner or later you join in. How are you doing? Where you from? Gee isn't it cold? Where you going? Where you from? You going hunting this weekend? And so by the end of our perfect country breakfast, we felt as if we were honorary citizens of Clayton. It was not yet 8 in the morning, and I thought wouldn't this be a great way to start every day!

Heard about their fried chicken here and had to come try. I gotta say, it was really good! The flavor was really tasty and the meat was tender and juicy. All the workers were extremely nice and efficient. The food was delivered to our table quickly even though they seemed a little busy. Great place!

If you aint gettin the fried chicken, then you're wrong. No credit cards are taken here, which stinks. Breakfast is tasty, everything is good. Stick to the handwritten specials cards for lunch and you won't leave unhappy. But you damn well need to try this chicken.

Great, classic restaurant. Service is always welcoming and efficient. Everything is very tasty, especially the fried chicken and corn poppers. Try the alligator!

Great place where locals frequent! Our recommendations are the fried chicken and fried tilapia. If they are serving the pot roast, I for that. My daughter loves the mash potatoes too.

Best little home town resturant...wonderful bkfst, try the sweet potato pancakes...best fried chicken for lunch!

The BEST and biggest fried chicken I have ever had! Consistently too. This is a mom and pop establishment, check or cash only. Breakfast is good, typical southern food. For lunch you pick a meat, 2 sides, and cornbread or roll. If you need a fried chicken fix, this is the place!

Delicious biscuits, the bacon and ham were amazing, and the employees were very friendly. We went there while traveling through and were treated warmly.

Food is just ok, but the one thing you need to be sure of is don't go in at closing time. Everyone was in a hurry to leave and the service was so so at best.

This location has been a locals type restaurant for over 60 years. It started off being the breakfast and lunch place the mayor, police chief, and merchants all gathered and talked politics in. It still retains the nice homey feel. Lunchtime gets hectic now, especially during the summer, when hiker and kayaker types come in, and in the "leaf season", when half of Florida shows up. The booths and tables are small and crowded, and the veggies are often canned/frozen in the non-harvest seasons. My wife's family were merchants in the area for generations, so we have been here many times in the last 40 years. It's more kitschy now, but I really do like their salmon patties, cole slaw, butter peas, string beans, mac 'n cheese, BLT, pimento cheese, and chicken salad.
