Very unique spot, friendly service, and TONS of ice cream. A double scoop is probably overkill for most folks.

Love this place!! I go here most of the time after eating at Vintage (as long as I'm not too full from pizza!) and every time, the staff is fun to talk to and the ice cream never disappoints. I adore their milkshakes-- one combination that I've fallen in love with is their cookies and cream + pralines and cream (frozen yogurt? Or low cal flavor) ; if you don't really like the idea of low cal/frozen yogurt, then you might not like it, but if you are okay with it, the product is this amazing cookies and cream with caramel flavoring and a slight coffee aftertaste. Sooo good! Their raspberry chip ice cream and key lime pie ice cream is also delectable. Also, frozen treats for your 4-legged friends!
(5)Gretchen F.
Great location and music and yummy vanilla with fudge but the chocolate ice cream tasted a tad old. Overall a good place to take the kids for the train caboose but not the best ice cream.
(3)Hungry H.
Really adore this place. Amazingly delicious ice cream. Cinnamon is top notch!
(4)Cat D.
Such a cute ice cream stand! Well, actually, they had several ice cream alternatives, too. I love the location and it was fun sit out front eating my ice cream on a warm evening with the trains in the background. It's tucked away in the antiques area of Chamblee, so even though it's right off the road, it's a nice quiet little road. Don't go expecting to find some crazy different ice cream - go to have a nice, casual dessert and to watch for trains.
(4)Ashley S.
Stopped by here because the pizza place across the street wasn't open yet, so we thought to get a little snack until they open. OMG the butter pecan ice cream is AMAZING!!!!! It's tasted like real ice cream, like homemade!!! I got the brownie as well to go with the ice cream which wasn't so great because it was hard as a rock. Overall the ice cream was what really made it good. Would recommend only ice cream from here. Only if they heated the brownie or made it fresh it would have got five stars and also give a bigger portion for $3!!

What's more charming than icecream served from a bright red caboose strung with christmas lights?....Nothing. This is a great place to grab some dessert and watch the trains go by or peruse some of the nearby antique stores that are sure to grab your attention. If you go, you HAVE to order the caboose wheels! Four mini cookie sandwiches with your choice of icecream and dipping sauce (hot fudge, caramel, butterscotch, etc), served in a little plastic boat. There is no way you can eat it without a giant smile across your face. Great place to come when you need a "pick-me-up" on a bad day. The workers are sure to put a smile on your face. This would also make a perfect date activity as there is a pizza restaurant across the street (Vintage Pizzeria). You'll impress your date with the originality.

If you like ice cream and want a little different ambience than your chains like Baskin-Robbins or Bruster's, then check out Chamblee's new "Frosty Caboose". It's hard to miss the bright red caboose - just across the street from Vintage Pizza. Their setup is similar to Bruster's where seating is outside - except I saw just a few spots. Mostly I think people are just standing around in the parking lot. If you have kids though, they'll probably have fun exploring the outside of the caboose. Folks working here were very friendly. I was just disappointed with the choice of flavors - only a few compared to the long list on the website. Hopefully the selection will grow as more people find out about the place - they just opened on the 27th. Apparently they are getting good word-of-mouth from kids telling their parents :) I tried to be "healthy" and got the Praline & Cream frozen yogurt - if I were you, get the ice cream. This is an ice cream place. Get yogurt at the yogurt places. My yogurt was ok but my friend's "Cookies & Cream" ice cream was good. I'll definitely come back - next time for ice cream :)
(3)Nancy R.
My friend suggested the Frosty Caboose, which was a real treat! It's literally a train caboose where you walk up to order and eat outside. It may be hard to see from the roadside (right across the street Vintage Pizza). FOOD: I had the cookies 'n cream ice cream on a sugar cone. It was a big scoop of ice cream so remember to eat fast on a hot day. TIP: Parking is the paved lot, not the gravel lot.
(4)Jason S.
Ice cream was decent but the customer service was atrocious. I have two boys under the age of 3, and apparently one was too tall to get a kid's cone (based on the opinion of the kid working the register). Of course, that caused a fight amongst the boys, and despite our request to get a kid's cone at an adult cone price, we were denied. Ridiculous. There are places with better ice cream and certainly better service.
(1)Leah V.
Mmmmm...green tea ice with bits of fortune cookie and ginger? Topped off with whipped cream? The Frosty Caboose has warmed my heart with that concoction. The kids really enjoy ringing the bell on the caboose. This makes for a great Friday night outing, as it's right across the street from Vintage Pizza. Total win.
(5)Draft M.
Unique place with no frills. Good selections and portions. Solid delivery. Limited parking and no exterior seating other than planter boxes toward the back of the small parking lot by the train tracks. Interesting area.
(4)Michelle L.
Love this place! Good selections of flavors and sundae toppings! I've been more times than I'd care to admit, but I love the lemon custard! I'd suggest getting it in a sundae, with raspberry topping and graham cracker topping. Soo good!
(5)Andrea M.
You can get two flavors with a one scoop option. The one scoop is more like two since it is fairly large. The best part is that it's only $3.25. The green tea and pistachio were good as I got those. My friend said the coffee almond fudge is pretty good. My heart was set on that, but I got the choices the bf wanted. :) This place is sort of like a food truck so you can't chill inside the building since there isn't any.

It's always special when you find a little bit of magic in a big city. Literally a caboose train car, dripping with what looks like melting ice cream, The Frosty Caboose is bound to catch your eye and win your heart. This tiny ice cream shop is tucked away from the hubbub of Peachtree Ind., but only a block off and a short walk from the Chamblee MARTA station, so it is certainly accessable. Their ice cream flavors are a step above the norm, offering flavors such a green tea, lemon custard, pistachio and "superman"- but they've got the old favorites too! Although I've just discovered the place, word round these parts says they have CINNAMON ICE CREAM sometimes- which should be important information to everybody since cinnamon ice cream is clearly the supreme flavor of all the flavors. And the ice cream is good. Like really good. They don't offer indoor seating, but there's plenty of outdoor seating (and you can sit on the train!!!)- just bring your bug spray. I highly recommend it for a weeknight activity, date night, or simply to satisfy your saturday afternoon ice cream craving.
(4)Sandeep G.
An Ice Cream shop with an identity. Tucked in small parking lot on a not so busy street surrounded by some stores selling antiques, this place brings out the kid in you. However old you get Frosty Caboose will make you get your ice cream and make you lick the dripping sweet cream like you did when you were a kid. The added attraction is to see the trains roll by while you enjoy your ice cream.
(5)Nik P.
So yummy, my friend and I got the train crack....so chocolaty. ..almost 2 much fudge. We could only eat about half. My friend got 2 scoops on a waffle cone. Huge scoops. Prices are good for what u get. People were nice.

The first time I came here was in 2013 on a sweet date with the sweetest guy for the sweetest ice cream. They serve Greenwood Ice Cream, which is located just down the street and is the best ice cream I've ever had. Usually, Greenwood only services restaurants, but since Frosty Caboose is a restaurant... I never realized I neglected to review how awesome Frosty Caboose was until I noticed I also hadn't been back here since that date. What a shame! It was a slightly brisk night, but that didn't deter us from our ice cream mission. It was open until 10 on Sunday night so we took our time getting there. Sure enough all the lights were lit and the sign shown bright in the night sky. Honestly I believe this area is such a cute and romantic area, but I decided to bring my friends to the sacred ice cream train car. The walkway winds you up to the counter, where the bored but friendly server let's you sample the different flavors, which seem to change with whatever they have in stock. After trying quite a few, I decided on the Coffee Almond Fudge, three of my favorite things in a scoop of ice cream. I got the sugar cone, which I prefer to a cake cone, with a single scoop for 3.25. I was surprised to see more than just a single scoop on my cone (maybe it was the small tip I left in the tip jar)! You can also check in on the little number pad they have. Each time you check in you get a discount or free item. My offer was discounted hot dog, but it was after 8pm by then, which is when they stop serving them. No matter, I was still stuffed from dinner. No bathroom in sight, but I didn't intend to stay here long enough to use the restroom. I had a good time hanging out by the caboose and the tracks with my friends. An awesome after dinner hangout for the adventurous - aka, willing to brave the outdoor climate, whether hot or cold or pollen-infested, for some damn good ice cream.
(5)Bri C.
I really enjoyed our dessert here. I was particularly impressed with the Banana Pudding ice Cream. It had pie crust bits that weren't soggy! Amazing! Very tasty and good ice cream.
(5)Asia J.
I can't for the life of me understand why this place has such good reviews. The ice cream was bland and not really sweet. It just tasted like I was eating very cold cream. The location is cool and we sat by the tracks while we ate, but I've had store ice cream better than this.
(2)Mary Margaret B.
I fell in love with this cute little place the moment we arrived. I think the idea of an ice cream spot in an old caboose is hilarious and adorable. The ice cream was great too! They had all these options for crazy sundaes and Gigantic banana splits but I decided on pistachio and coconut! Delicious. Bf got mint chocolate chip (what he always gets-anytime-anywhere-anyday) on a sugar cones. Next time I'm having a craving or a partner to eat a huge fidget sundae with I'll be back!

After another looooooong day at work, I needed my Saturday afternoon pick-me-up which is a milk shake, because if I drank alcohol after work on Saturdays...I would need to be checked into an AA program... I typically like to try an establishment's shakes to see if they pass the ice cream test and since I was in the area, I finally decided to cross something off my bookmark list, so off to the Frosty Caboose I went. It was't hard to find this little red train car after plugging the directions into my phone, but this is definitely outta my way from Marietta, so stopping by would definitely be when I'm in the area. I looked over the menu a bit, mainly to see the prices... 4.80$ for a 16oz shake. I placed my order and stepped to the side as I watched a guy make it in that tiny space.... (how do they work in there, it's so small!!!). And after a few minutes I was down the road with shake in hand. This was a great chocolate shake, and many of my props go for the greenwood ice cream they use!!! The look of the shake is a bit misleading, it looks lumpy, but baby that shake is all smooth!! And if it was possible to inject chocolate directly into the brain... this shake was the way to go!! Parking was fine as I was there early during the day, but people were popping up left and right, so I can imagine it's busier later in the evenings. Service was fine soooo yeah.... Other than that I'm a fan and next time I go back maybe I'll remember to use the scout mob app....

It's high time that I give my opinion of this place and what better encouragement than a "scoop" of green tea and mango ice creams to get the review-writing juices flowing? I moved into the neighborhood almost a year ago and have been stopping by whenever the craving for ice cream gets the best of me. Learning that they serve locally-churned Greenwood Ice Cream just heightened my curiosity and admittedly, a Scoutmob deal was what sealed the deal. (Wow, I am on a roll with clichés tonight...) Since I have a hard time deciding (ever heard of "analysis paralysis"?), I have asked to sample lots of flavors and between just getting a small spoonful or actually ordering a cup, I've tried pistachio, black cherry, mango, birthday cake, cookies 'n cream, butter pecan, chocolate chip cookie dough, raspberry sorbet, and pralines and cream froyo. The last two were sweeter than I would have liked, both frozen treats usually being a bit more tangy than ice cream itself. I truthfully detected no tartness in the sorbet and frozen yogurt that I tried. But let me tell you about my two favorites, having become my usual: green tea and peach. The peach is better than than the mango, so opt for the former if you're on the fence. Georgia is the peach state after all, so the ice cream has fresh chunks throughout. While I respect Dona N.'s opinion, I must gracefully disagree about the green tea flavor. I'm not a true connoisseur, but I happen to be a pretty big fan of matcha and buy tins of the stuff and prepare it at home complete with a bamboo whisk. While the flavor may be weaker than other matcha desserts, this ice cream flavor is certainly matcha green tea. I like its earthy quality paired with a fruity ice cream. You do what you want, but I usually go for the peach. The black cherry could be good too. Service is very friendly. No worries about paying with your card for just a (not-so-skimpy) single scoop (which can be split into 2 flavors--woo-hoo!). I got a cake cone on top of my mound of ice cream tonight and it is just like the ones my mom would get from the grocery store. These are like the red-headed stepchildren of the ice cream cone family, but I open my arms wide to embrace them. Warmly in my belly. Yummy ice cream with amazing local flavor. You will find families here even as they are coming up on their closing time on weeknights, which is awesome. The Frosty Caboose is just one other place that makes me love Chamblee.
(4)Ravi B.
Awww, such a cute ice cream place in Chamblee. Chamblee seems to be growing every day, and this addition was nice for the kids AND the adults. I like the aesthetic of the caboose being on train tracks. The ice cream flavors are creative and awesome here too. One of their flavors is called Chocolate Fetish :P Chef Justin White and I were able to try some of their flavors and toppings. Chef Justin White enjoyed the birthday cake flavor. I liked the raspberry tart. We both mutually agreed the chocolate peanut butter was good too, just not our favorite. The reeses pieces and oreo pieces were a good add-on for the top. My only complaint was there wasn't really a place to sit down and mosquitos were frustrating :P and lots of kids running around isn't my favorite scene, but I guess at least I know to expect that :D. Some sacrifices for good ice cream are worth making. ;)
(4)Brynn M.
So glad I read Yelp and so glad I went here! Cutest little icecream stop and the icecream is delish! I asked if the Coal Train sundae or a waffle cone would be better and the cashier was honest, he said I would enjoy the flavor of icecream more without toppings, I went for the waffle cone & was very satisfied. I would definitely come back & bring friends if I lived in the area. Great job Frosty Caboose & the name is adorable!
(5)Jinsoon Y.
This is a mom and pops ice cream place that has some original flavors. I prefer my ice cream on the less creamy side, hence the 3 stars. It seems fairly popular. There was a line on a late Saturday night in somewhat freezing temperatures. There is plenty of parking. There is no seating available. This is essentially a stationary food truck. The purveyors were class acts. Maybe I'll go for their green tea flavor next time. I thought their salted caramel was a tad too creamy.
(3)Claire M.
Cute ice cream stop off of Peachtree Street. I usually get the salted caramel with hot fudge sauce. The only downside is the lack of seating.
(5)Terry J.
Good ice cream. Cool concept. Kids 36" and below get a free kids cone. My daughter is 36 1/4" and they said no. Pretty shocked that they were that petty.
(3)Dara L.
If I could only make this home away from home! #HEAVEN They have a great menu, but we are stuck on our banana splits. Sure we mix up the flavors and toppings, but we do not stray from our favorite. The only thing missing from this establishment are picnic tables...
(4)David F.
An unique ice cream experience, great way to end a hot evening in Atlanta. Warning: the servings are huge. A cup with 2 scoops ($4.50) seems like a smidge less than a pint of ice cream. Most will be happy with a single scoop, although the flavors will tempt you to try a double. As for flavors, the banana pudding and chunky salted caramel are great options to consider. They often run 50% off specials up to $5 off on Scoutmob so check it in advance.
(5)Charlé W.
Many reviewers are touting the huge ice cream scoops, but that was not my experience at all. The caboose idea is cute and the flavor of the coconut and green tea ice creams were good but my ice cream scoop was literally the smallest one I've ever paid for. It wasn't even average sized. The service was lacking. They seemed bored and the girl struggled to get my flavors out which maybe explains why I got so little? I want to go back and rescind my tip.
(2)Angela S.
We found this place after looking for an after dinner treat. I mainly wanted to go for the photo opp - the idea is so cute! We both ordered sugar cones, which come with one scoop. I'm not sure what universe their "one scoop" comes from, but it is seriously ginormous! I had to throw most of mine away because it was just too much (I know that sounds ridiculous and certainly not something to complain about!!!) ice cream for me. So keep that in mind when deciding on number of scoops you want! Flavors were really good - we had strawberry cheesecake and birthday cake. Next time, I'll try one of their sundaes!
(4)Kofo S.
"It's so cute....this would be a great place for a date....especially at night. Why can't guys think of stuff like this?" All of this ran through my mind as I pulled up. Then I got emotional and wanted to eat...sigh. I found out about this spot from a Scoutmob deal and a certain reality show that shall remain nameless lol. Frosty Caboose has tons of flavors, creations, and even serves hot dogs and nachos. I had the brownie sundae with two scoops. 2 brownie bites, one scoop of birthday cake ice cream, one scoop of pralines and cream, strawberry topping, caramel, whipped cream and a cherry on top. The bday cake was awesome as was the pralines and cream. I will be back....perhaps with a date.
(4)David K.
Kitschy. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Here, it works. The train tracks are the best "downtown" area that Chamblee has, so it makes sense that an old caboose would have been converted into an ice cream shop. Their menu has desserts and light bites (like hot dogs). I always come for ice cream, though. It's not gourmet or amazingly unique, but the cool thing about coming here is the old fashioned dishes you can get. I love the huge sundae (3 scoops of whatever you want plus a dry topping and something wet - I prefer hot fudge). There are a few tables set-up for eating there. I usually start my nosh and then finish the rest in the car. Obviously, I could avoid the mess entirely by eating there, but I digress...
(4)Yisi L.
It looks like a food truck. Cute red caboose. I was a little bit confused when ordering because I didn't see a clear menu and all the flavors are hand-written- sorry I always find it difficult to read someone else's hand writing. Again, it is like a food truck so I could not see the ice cream; I need to request "may I try this flavor" without seeing it and staff A made a sample, handed it to staff B and finally to me. So awkward. The ice cream was good. I would describe it as mild, creamy and not too sweet. I had raspberry & chips and salted caramel. Wish there are more options. Chamblee after 7pm is like a ghost town. So I just drove home. 23/100 Yelp 100 Challenge
(3)Jayda T.
Green tea ice cream!!! Omg!!! Lemon tart & green tea ice cream make the perfect match!!! But cotton candy, key lime pie, & chocolate peanut butter are amazing too. Have to be careful going to this place it's so addicting lol. Ice cream here is more fruity, fresh, & icey compared to other spots that have more gelato-like, overly creamy ice creams. Good selection, good prices!!!
(5)Tamaica M.
The bomb.com I love did I say I love ice cream I love it!!! I got the coffee almond fudge sundae with extra hot fudge and almonds and whip creme#fatgirlmoment. It was so good. The lady who owns the place (I guess she was the owner) was very nice..I will be back
(5)Ching H.
I love this ice cream place!!! It's so cool, cute, and they have green tea ice cream!!! It's open 365 days a year!!! It's pretty close to where I work so every time I get a chance, I'll try to stop by. It's always the same lady working there. She's very nice and helpful. Ice cream portions are huge. I order a single scoop of green tea in a sugar cone. I feel stuffed. My sister loves their black cherry ice cream. We think they make the ice creams themselves. Other than ice creams, they also sell hot dogs. I always order mine with onions, chili, cheese, and ketchup. Yum!!! This place is a train basically. It's really cute. Kids love it so does the adults. I enjoy coming to this store. I feel it's not like the big franchise stores. They also have scoutmob but not sure if it's still available or not.
(5)Lauren H.
Delicious, fun, family friendly ice cream stand/shop near Brookhaven. The ice cream and shakes we got were very good. I would definitely recommend checking them out! The Caboose is very cute, and I loved the mix of 80s/90s music they were playing on a Friday night. They also had a wide variety of flavors and even had ice cream cones for your dog if you brought them with you!
(5)Carmen S.
I really liked this cool little place, and from the busy Tuesday afternoon crowd of locals, looks like I'm not the only one. The caboose was freshly painted and really neat, with a bell for kids to ring and a big wheel for them to turn. Eating was outside, but it's shady and right by the train tracks, so you can eat and watch the trains roll by. The conductor waved at me while I was taking a picture. Some are mean, so that was cool. I got a 50% off coupon from ScoutMob when I checked in on Foursquare. I had the salted caramel ice cream in a waffle cone, and it was good. I'd like to go back for the chocolate peanut butter. If you have kids, definitely go here, because they will love it. And if you're an adult, I'm betting you'll like it, too. Just a neat little place in a lovely downtown area with lots of antique shops and an outdoor pergola to sit beneath while tossing pennies in the water fountain. It made for a nice afternoon.

This place warms my cold black heart for two reasons. First, the name is somewhat nostalgic since the term "frosty caboose" is what my college roommate used to affectionately call his girlfriend, who for lack of a better word was a "prude". Second, I am a Yankee by blood, and thus, somewhat disillusioned by the seemingly endless supply of frozen yogurt shops on every corner in Atlanta. I grew up on real ice cream, but the options for said dessert are incredibly limited in this city. This is where the Frost Caboose comes in - it serves Greenwood ice cream, which has been manufactured in Chamblee for the past 50 years. Ice Cream: The Frosty Caboose serves a rotating assortment of about a dozen different ice cream flavors at any given time, as well as a limited selection of sorbet, sherbet, Italian ice, and frozen yogurt flavors. Ice cream is available in one, two, or three scoops. Vehicles for delivering these frozen treats into your gullet include sugar cones, cake cones, waffles cones, and cups. You can also select from an array of different toppings, including everything from brand name candies to sprinkles and nuts. Shakes, malts, and floats are also available. During my visit, I opted for a cup of two scoops of banana ice cream with peanut butter sauce and Reese's Pieces. The ice cream itself was very flavorful, the portion was sizable, and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. In the end, the ice cream is no Morelli's or High Road, but for the price I have no complaints. Service: Quick, friendly, and patient. There are a lot of options to choose from and the staff are more than willing to allow you to peruse the menu and to try samples. There was no wait during our visit- however, there is only one ordering window though, so my guess is that a hefty line can form during peak summer months. Atmosphere: Consistent with its namesake, this place is shaped like a train caboose and topped with faux icicles running down the sides. It's also situated directly next to an actual train track, which helps compliment the whole schtick. My only real complaint with this place is the lack of seating - there are a few raised wood planters throughout the parking lot that you can squat on, but for the most part there isn't any formal seating. I'm not sure if they own the grassy area next to the parking lot, but that would seem like an ideal area to put a few picnic tables. Cost: Reasonably priced. I don't recall the specific prices, but we ended up getting two cups of ice cream with two toppings each for less than $10. Compared to what I've paid at Morelli's and High Road, that's an absolute steal. Credit cards are accepted. Other: The Frosty Caboose is open year round. Hours of operation are Monday-Wednesday, 11:30AM-9PM, Thursday-Saturday, 11:30AM-10PM, and Sunday, 12:30PM-9PM. They offer free kiddie cone's to those under 3 feet tall, as well as free frozen dog treats. Hand packed pints and quarts are also available for purchase.

So I first heard about this place on Groupon went there it's an awesome set up of a train a great place to take your date out on a nice afternoon they have the best ice cream I've ever tasted the people were really nice it's a nice little area in chamblee they have so many things on that road such as antique shops and Local restaurants its a nice place to go I'm chamblee of you're looking for somewhere new around metro atlanta.

I've been coming to the Frosty Caboose for over 5 years now-I'm a long-time fan. I would like to list 3 things that I believe make frosty special place: The ice cream-of course! It's creamy, it's delicious, expansive list of flavors (from superman to green tea) and I've been told it's made locally in Chamblee-how cool! The service and atmosphere- located in down town chamblee, in what literally is a caboose on railroad tracks, at frosty caboose you will often find large groups of people (families, kid's soccer teams, young couples) waiting in line for a delicious treat. Each and every one of the employees is a rock star-super kind, friendly, ever-so patient as you're trying to make the tough decision on which treat to order. Finally, the Frosty is very dog friendly! It is an outdoor ice cream shop, so naturally, since your are outside, dogs are allowed. Nonetheless, every time we are here we are made to feel like our dog is welcome. Last time one of the employees gave him a little treat. Needless to say it made our day. Thank you for serving awesome ice cream, lighting up chamblee with your icicle lights as well as your kind personalities and treating our pooch with as much respect as you treat us loyal customers!
(5)Stacy R.
I love the salted caramel ice cream. This is a favorite dessert spot for my family. The servings are huge and expect a sticky mess. Some seatings would be nice.
(4)T C.
What a great way to end a cheat day! First warm weekend after months of cold weather, so of course we had to end the day here. My husband and I got Sundays *drools* omg... Listen...this place here? Perfect. You honestly can't go wrong. Just try to go early if it's a prime day to go (prime meaning it's nice outside) because they tend to run out of stuff and get busy fast!
(5)Lauren P.
I love ice cream, and my hubby's an engineer from Georgia Tech, so you couldn't ask for a sweeter date night spot than The Frosty Caboose. It's lovely to walk around the tracks noshing on a delicious dessert while taking in the sights of historic Chamblee. The Frosty Caboose is a true local business. My favorite flavor of ice cream (peach) is locally made in Chamblee. I love the Georgia Crossing sundae with two scoops of fresh peach topped with whipped cream, chopped peanuts and a caramel drizzle. With ScoutMob, our dishes were only $4.40 with tax! Now that was a sweet treat.
(5)Katherine C.
Yum! Got a custom made sundae. What can I say, good ice cream, good location, good price point. Be sure to use the scoutmob app to get half off your order.
(5)Dona N.
Oriental express: green tea ice cream with candied ginger topped with a fortune cookie and whip cream. I was expecting a MATCHA green tea ice cream, so you can understand my disappointment when it tasted like vanilla ice cream (authentic vanilla with beans) with green dye. Maybe? Not complaining. It was good nonetheless. -Candied ginger was legit! Probably my favorite part. -I mean the whole thing could/would be perfect if they'd considered matcha green tea. Will return to try the Georgia Peach Sundae P.S. Thanks Scoutmob
(4)Monica S.
Adorable ice cream stand in downtown Chamblee. All the traditional flavors with some not so traditional ones (like green tea and chunky salted caramel). The banana pudding ice cream was awesome!! They have music playing and benches to sit on. Perfect spot to grab desert.
(5)Lauren H.
From everyone else's reviews and pics, this is obviously a really cute place to take your kids. But for me, since I have none, I come for the delicious, chewy ice cream. I will gladly pay the, roughly, $5 for a scoop of strawberry ice cream on a waffle cone with peanuts and graham cracker crumbs...in Winter. It also helps that the employees are pleasant and quick.
(4)Scarlett W.
Yeah I eat ice cream sundaes in the wintertime. Shhhhhh. Sundae with 3 scoops of different flavored ice cream over 3 chocolate brownies (I forgot the name, please forgive me): Three different flavors - Turtle, Black Cherry and Butter Pecan. Turtle was great, the boyfriend enjoyed it greatly and from what I could tell it was pretty delicious too. Butter Pecan was also good. Black Cherry. This review is literally an ode to their Black Cherry ice cream. You haven't lived until you've tried this flavor (if you like fruity ice cream...). It has a fragrance to it that I've never tasted before (and I love cherry ice cream). Someone please feed this to me for the rest of my life. Service: Uh well, considering we are probably the only people to eat sundaes in the wintertime, it was pretty fast. Warning - there is no seating so retreat to the sanctity of your cars to enjoy the ice cream. Sidenote: Did I mention this shop is a train car? Because that should be reason enough to stop by. IT IS SO CUTE. Verdict: Yum. Yum yum yum. Of course I shall return.

I happened to be in the area, wanted a specific snack (an ice cream cone) and had time to kill, so what better time to stop by The Frosty Caboose? I'd heard about it from a friend and knew it was somewhere in downtown Chamblee. It really wasn't hard to find -- it's difficult to miss that bright red train car. I heard that they had green tea ice cream, which is what I really wanted. How many ice cream shops actually have green tea ice cream? Sure enough, it was on their menu -- along with a plethora of other flavors. They have them listed conveniently on their website too. They offer a variety of sundaes, and they have options other than ice cream, such as sorbets, sherbets, frozen yogurt, light ice cream, shakes, malts, floats. There are a few cone options, or you can get it in a cup for the same price. Waffle cones are a bit pricier than cake or sugar cones. A single scoop will run you $3.25, tax included. Double scoops are $4.30. Triple scoops are $5-something. A single scoop is more than enough, though, because they are generous with the serving size. I got a single scoop of green tea ice cream in a sugar cone. It really hit the spot. It was deliciously creamy and the green tea flavor was there, but not in a bitter way. The ice cream is delicious, and if you care about this sort of thing, it is locally made in Chamblee. It would be nice if there was a bench or something to sit, but I know a lot of people will take their ice cream and walk around downtown Chamblee, which oddly has a LOT of antique shops. There is a paved parking lot that they share with the store next to them. They are open seven days a week, till 10 pm. You can check out their hours on the site. Winter hours are a little more limited, but not by much.

What a fun little ice cream shop! It's essentially in a small train car. Ice cream & train= perfect for kids! (and those young at heart). I tried the coffee almond fudge. While a small is kind of expensive at $3.25, it was delicious ice cream! It was creamy and not too sweet, perfect consistency. It just melted so wonderfully in my mouth. Yummers! My only issue is that the prices are not listed anywhere on their menu or in store... I always find that a little sketch.

This is a neat little throwback in downtown Chamblee--AKA: Chamblee Antique Row. It sits right behind two different rail lines so you can sit and watch the trains go by on a nice day while you enjoy your ice cream. I'd only heard of The Frosty Caboose via Scoutmob (thanks again for an awesome deal, Scout). So on a sunny day off, I decided to spend a little time in Chamblee and treat myself to a couple of scoops of whatever the Caboose had to offer. I ordered two scoops in a cup: pistachio and chocolate chip cookie dough. The chocolate chip cookie dough was okay; though IMO Bruster's has the best of that variety so everything else is going to fall short for me anyway. But the pistachio ice cream was just dreamy! It was perfect: really rich & creamy with just the right amount of pistachio saltiness to it. I went back a couple of weeks later. I was craving a coffee milkshake and wanted to see what the Caboose could do about it. It was good; a little sweet for my taste (I like the raw taste of coffee) so not perfect, but still good enough to enjoy. FYI: If you're going solo and will not be spending more than $5, bring cash. They do have a minimum when it comes to paying with a debit/credit card.

So, I wanted some ice cream, did some yelping (or searching), and found this place. The Frosty Caboose. It's not really an ideal place for the winter time, but when you want some ice cream, this is definitely a good choice. I ordered the Coffee Almond Fudge in a waffle cone, and a friend ordered the Raspberry Chip (black raspberry with chocolate chip) in a waffle cone. Both were delicious. The coffee almond fudge was creamy and not overpowering. Delicious. The raspberry chip had some great raspberry flavor and chips all over - also delicious! We both loved it and will be back again. I heard about the banana pudding "something", so I'm going to have to go back and give that a shot! ****NOTE TO SELF: They do not have indoor seating as it's a little caboose off the road. They also have sorbet and non-dairy products, if you can't have dairy!

Great service and ice cream. Also on Scoutmob. Support this local biz!

I'll give it 5 stars just because it's a fun place to go. A caboose that serves ice cream? It's fun. The ice cream was pretty good too. I got rocky road and while it's wasn't the best I've ever had, who cares?? It was pretty good and it was fun to walk around the small downtown Chamblee area for a few minutes while I chomped down on the waffle cone. Who doesn't love ice cream!?

Great spot to take kids on a hot summer day. Eat delicious ice cream and watch the choo choos. Key Lime Pie is delicious!

A fun place o get a refreshing ice cream any time of the year. This a place where there is seating to eat your treat outside. The caboose is so cute physically the kids love it. Really nice staff Reasonable pricing, delicious ice cream . I can't recommend it enough.
(5)Katie S.
Cute atmosphere and very friendly workers, but the ice cream is nothing great... The Cookies & Cream is just like Mayfield's and the Strawberry Cheesecake was just flavored vanilla-- no real strawberries or cheesecake pieces. For $8.50 I'd rather go to Brusters or ColdStone.

First of all, it's a real caboose. But it's a great place I can get chocolate peanut butter ice cream on a sugar cone, which is what I am looking for in an ice cream cone. I have not tried any of the other food. Have tried the chunky salted caramel, which is also quite tasty.
(5)Michael K.
It's literally a red train car on the road! The ice cream is really yummy here and a single scoop is actually two scoops! They filled up the waffle cone all the way!
(4)Valerie N.
Why go to a chain ice cream store when you can support your local ice cream stand? This place is so super cute, complete with oldies music! The selections are very similar to Bruster's - ice cream, sherbert, yogurt, sundaes. I had a key lime pie ice cream sunday, which was delicious and a HUGE portion. It was fun to sit outside and eat ice cream on such a nice summer evening. I'd definitely recommend stopping here!

I absolutely love this place. The Frosty Caboose is a neat little ice cream shop in Chamblee and I'm so glad they were on Scoutmob for me to take the time to try it. I actually drove by it every day on my way to work for about 6 months before I stopped. Once I did, I was hooked! So far, I've had the banana pudding, cookies and cream, mint chocolate chip, & butter pecan. The ladies inside are always super friendly and they have so many flavors. The ice cream is very creamy, and they give you a lot for your money. If you're anywhere in the area, I highly suggest you head over!

Solid four stars. We love this place. And there's a Scoutmob that expires sometime in May. So grab your phone and check it out. Okay, first, let's just put it out there. ICE CREAM SERVED FROM A TRAIN. While this could be the end of the review and you should already be compelled to go, maybe you need more convincing. After you park in the small lot behind it, or walk the couple of blocks from the Chamblee MARTA stop, you walk up a magical ramp (with rope lights if it's night) to ice cream awesomeness. I was a bit overwhelmed the first time we went; I was expecting solid, but not crazily-inventive sundaes and a freakin' cornucopia of flavors. Be prepared to think a bit, because you're going to have a hard time deciding what to get. We all know the best start for a premium sundae is the ice cream. Frosty Caboose will not disappoint on that one, as their ice cream is locally-made Greenwood ice cream. This stuff is made about a mile away. ONE MILE. YOUR ICE CREAM WILL TRAVEL ONE MILE FROM THE FACTORY. Seriously. To get any fresher, you'd have to make it right there. And it's spectacular. And it's made with oh-so-many flavors. Right now my favorite is black cherry. But rest assured, next time I go it will change, because they are all so freakin' good. And you want an inventive sundae bursting with flavor? They've been waiting for you. Solid choice is the "Orient Express:" green tea ice cream (!), whipped cream, chewy ginger candy, and a flippin' fortune cookie on top. Don't want anything they've thought of? No worries, they'll pretty much make whatever you want, they're very accommodating and will indulge my husband when he decides he wants three flavors in his milkshake. Sometimes it's a little slow, but who cares when they're making sure that your ice cream extravaganza will be pitch-perfect? Tonight's fortune cookie on my Orient Express gave me the fortune: "You will step on the soil of many countries." But I can guarantee you I will always come back here, and the Frosty Caboose is one of the reasons why.

You can't really go wrong with ice cream, and the Frosty Caboose (in Chamblee) is just fun. They serve good, old-fashioned Greenwood Ice Cream, which has been locally manufactured in Chamblee for over 50 years. A single scoop in a cone is humongous. And they also do hot dogs. Good stuff. Just go.
(5)Molly O.
Local ice cream, friendly service, and located in an old train butt! How could it possibly can anymore awesome?! The ice cream selections are delcious as well as MASSIVE (but a tad bit pricey I thought). I love that it's not a chain store, it has a completely unique atmosphere (on a small road without a lot of traffic near a railroad track). And, they host the Chamblee Farmer's Market on Saturdays right on the parking lot. Super awesome.

Yummy!!!!!!! I went out to Vintage Pizza with friends and this place was across the street. It is so cuteI, a little train car. I had a Rocky Road cone. At first I thoght $3.25 was high, but once I tasted the ice cream the price was just fine with me. :) They have lots of flavors...one friend had mint chocolate chip and the other one I am not sure which flavor he had...lol, but we were all happy. I think for little kids this place would be great also.
(5)Ms. G.
This is a fun place to take the kids. Yes, that's what you are paying for: a little fun. The ice cream is good and you could pay less if you buy it at the store but you won't be experiencing a little old fashioned, small town charm if you stay home. A few covered patio tables would make the place even better!

Today I watched the cashier argue with a parent that his child was not 36 in tall and therefore can not have a free kid size ice cream cone. Not only was she rude, she held up the line and scared the kid by insisting on trying to measure him. Btw, the child was clearly under 36 in tall. I will never visit this rude establishment again.

Easily in my top two for best butter pecan ice cream that I've ever had. The prices are reasonable, and they're open late. Keep up the great work, Frosty Caboose!

I found out about The Frosty Caboose from my husband, who drove past it on his way to the Chamblee MARTA station before it was even open. We eagerly anticipated its opening day because the exterior looked so cute. Finally, it was open and we paid it a visit. The Frosty Caboose has generous hours of operation (I believe they are open until 10 pm every night). They have a wide variety of flavors, all of which are Greenwood brand ice cream, which their website states is locally manufactured in Chamblee. This makes sense - their ice cream definitely tastes homemade, but we couldn't figure out how they could be making it inside that tiny caboose. The staff who served us were quick and friendly. My husband and I, who do not normally like waffle cones, tried one and found it VERY tasty. This is a great place to stop off and try if you are checking out the newly enlivened "downtown" Chamblee area.

Absolutely sad. Concept: cute Location: interesting Look: charming Food: terrible Food wins. This place is only for the absolutely desperate or those who are only considering their kids...and even then, possibly as old as 6. Some kids KNOW food.

This place rocks! I didn't exactly have high expectations walking up to a big, fake red caboose in the middle of Chamblee, but I walked away a forever-customer! First off -- the customer service. Every person who has served us has been really attentive and offered details about menu items we were unfamiliar with. The setting is perfect. It's like an ice cream scoop's drop from the railroad tracks, and they've laid out some awesome sitting areas to enjoy on warm summer nights. A plus for me, too, since I'm not allowed to eat "food of any kind" in my boyfriend's new truck. Yet. YET! The ice cream. Wow. Yum. I can whole-heartedly say that the banana pudding ice cream is the best I've ever had. And the single-scoop serving in a cup is the perfect amount. I took the parents last weekend, and they're so convinced that we're going back for Mother's Day dessert! Sweet!

This is a short walk from my condo and I didnt even know it exsisted until I found it using the yelp nearby feature. Its a small red train caboose full of ice cream. They have many great flavors and a lot of specials. You'll probably have a lot of questions because the names arent always explanatory. They also sell hot dogs if you wanted to get a bite too eat too. They give free doggy cones with purchase so we walked my dog down and she killed the doggy cone. Not sure what it was...I guess its doggy safe?
(4)Erica B.
There is no wrong season for ice cream! We went on a cold night and each got a scoop he had the chocolate fetish which was creamy and very chocolaty! I had the "light gourmet" almond amaretto which wasn't as creamy or indulgent as the chocolate fetish but the flavor was spot on! Very friendly staff and of course the cute caboose!
(4)Caitlin B.
Alright, I finally tried this place, and honestly, I wasn't THAT impressed. $3 for a single scoop? It's mediocre at best, nothing to get excited about. The only thing that makes this place unique is the building itself, other than that, you're better off taking your $$ and going to the store and getting a pint of your favorite Ben & Jerry's!
(2)j l.
yay! frosty caboose! thank god i saved room for that rootbeer float....mmmm. i LOVE the ice cream from Greenwood Creamery--it's not some fancy-pants highbrow stuff, it's just old-fashioned delicious, childhood memory-inducing cold creamy yumyums. the texture is ultra creamy-sugary-slightly grainy...it was perfect. nice people, too. those of you that like to gorge at the Oriental Pearl...save some room for the Caboose.

Great place to grab some ice cream and chill out in a charming setting. I bring my 3 year old nephew here all the time and he loves to sit outside and watch the trains go by. They give huge scoops of locally sourced ice cream. +1 for green tea flavor. +1 for Vintage Pizza across the street.
(5)Stephanie A.
The Frosty Caboose rocks. I took my little nephew there last week and it is a little kids dream. You have the full size trains and the Marta line running and the Frosty Caboose (that the kids can jump on). The ice cream was delicious and the staff was extremely friendly. It's great to have a little locally owned ice cream joint in Chamblee!
(5)Jason W.
Pretty good. Stopped here after trivia at the 57th Fighter Group. It was pretty yummy, and reasonably priced. I would go again....if I'm in Chamblee...

This is a great neighborhood treat. RIght now their rating shows as 3 stars, though the reviews I see are three 4-stars and 1 3-star. How is that an average of 3??? Cute place nestled up against the train tracks with some outdoor seating around the parking lot and near the tracks - nice place to eat with kids, and you can see Marta trans, passenger trains and cargo trains - on one recent visit I saw all three, plus a small plane and a helicopter. For the ice cream - very good, reasonable prices, and free kiddie cones (I went to Bruster's recently and paid more than $3 for a kiddie cone!). I agree with another reviewer on number of flavors - would love to see a very chocolatey chocolate, and would love to see a peanut-butter sundae type deal - sometimes i just crave those sorts of things! I've tried Rocky Road, Chocolate chip, not really thrilled with the low-fat, but a sugar free would be nice as sugar gives me migraines sometimes. Definitely a nice evening ice cream event for the family, especially since we live very close by. Oh - kids (and adults too, i guess) can climb on the outside of the actual frosty caboose. another source of entertainment. It looks exactly like the little picture of the red caboose with snow on top.

What a cute ice cream store! It's a nice change from the typical ice cream chains. I had the pralines and cream frozen yogurt, which was pretty good but a little icy (as in a slight layer of ice on some parts). I was disappointed they didn't have the peach frozen yogurt. It's definitely a place I'll return to, and next time I'll bring my dog because like Bruster's, The Frosty Caboose offers a free treat for your dog. Seating is limited, but there are a few benches around, and I saw a family sitting on the steps to the caboose (despite the sign for Employees Only -- but obviously they didn't mind). Plenty of parking here next to The Frosty Caboose and across the street.
